1. Integrity of the Marriage and Family Therapy Research Literature: Perceptions and Recommendations

Abstract

Reports of falsification, fabrication, plagiarism, and other violations of research integrity across the sciences are on the increase. Joining with other disciplines to actively protect the integrity of the marriage and family therapy (MFT) research literature is of utmost importance to both the discipline and the future of the profession. To inform the issues raised, results are presented of an informal survey among MFT clinical members on their perceptions about the literature together with their preferences for how best to protect its integrity. This article initiates an important discussion about the honesty of MFT research.

2. The Current Status of Training for Paraprofessionals.

Abstract

This paper attempts to discuss several unresolved issues currently of concern in the utilization and training of paraprofessionals. It examines, briefly, three well-known training programs, and elaborates on a fourth, focusing on the objectives and processes of the training. While there is considerable overlap among the programs, especially in their goals, their training procedures differ substantially. Although they approach the technology of training from different perspectives, all seem to have certain characteristics which mediate for successful outcomes, namely, clear training goals and procedures and some form of preparation for the trainer. The authors offer suggestions on how consumers can select the training program best fitted to their needs. (Author/PC)

4. A Comparison of the Relationship Enhancement Program and the Minnesota Couple Communication Program.

Abstract

Compared the effectiveness of the Relationship Enhancement Program (RE) and the Minnesota Couples Communication Program (CC) with 46 couples in the treatment groups. Results showed that RE was more effective in increasing marital communication and marital satisfaction. Couples experiencing low marital satisfaction were best helped by RE. (JAC)

5. Supervision in AAMFT Accredited Programs: Supervisee Perceptions and Preferences.

Assessed supervisees' (N=72) perceptions of supervision in American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy-accredited programs. Supervisees from 14 programs described actual and preferred supervision. Most reported mixed didactic-experiential supervision style. Supervisees considered quality of supervision good, some reported not receiving once a week supervision, and most did not receive style of supervision they preferred. (Author/NB)

7. Social Exchange in the Initial Family Therapy Interview.
