This essay presents an initial survey of some unpublished medieval fragments and manuscripts preserved at the Biblioteca Comunale Manfrediana in Faenza. Alongside essential information about the collections that house them, a detailed preliminary description of some of these pieces is provided. Additionally, an edition of an inedited fragment of Petrarch’s Bucolicum carmen is presented, initiating a study aimed to enhance the value of the Faenza library’s literary heritage through future publications, in-depth research, and editions.

Purpose. The purpose of this study is to analyze the perception of the common pan-Romance state in the intellectual history of Romance philology. The author analyzes various viewpoints on the common pan-Romance state, including the arguments of supporters and opponents of its existence. Novelty. The novelty of the study lies in the analysis of interpretations of the common pan-Romance state in contexts of the history of the Romance languages through the prism of intellectual history and the history of ideas. Materials and methods. Methodologically, the article is based on the principles of interdisciplinary historiography proposed in intellectual and cultural history, which allows us to analyze the problems of the common pan-Romance state as part of the history of ideas and an invented historiographic tradition or intellectual construct. Results. The article analyzes 1) the arguments of supporters of the existence of a common Romance state as a stage between Latin and Romance languages, 2) the ideas of critics and opponents of the idea of a common Romance state, who tend to look for the origins of the Romance languages directly in Latin, 3) the possibilities and potency of revising early viewpoints in contexts the history of late Latin and the early genesis of the Romance languages. The article also analyzes 1) the arguments of supporters and opponents of the existence of the common Romance state through the prism of intellectual history and the history of ideas, 2) the history of Romance philology through the prism of the archaeology of ideas, which allows us to trace how the arguments of supporters and opponents of the common Romance state have changed, 3) the general logic of the development of Romance philology through the prism of the transformation of ideas about the general Romance state. Conclusions. The results of the study suggest that 1) ideas about the common Romance state in the history of Romance linguistic became a common historiographic place, turning into an invented intellectual and historiographical tradition, 2) discussions and debates about the existence or absence of a general Romance state stimulated the search for new ideas, contributing to the development of Romance philology, 3) the controversy and debatability of the concept of the general Romance state in the history of Romance philology will remain a factor contributing to intellectual discussions and actualization of the role of revisionism as a universal factor in the development of modern interdisciplinary linguistics.

The present research intends to investigate the links between the institutional activity of the famous medievalist, Michel Zink, and three of his less well-known novels (at least in Italy): the novel about the grail “Déodat ou la transparence” (2002); the volume in the investigative series “Arsène Lupin et l’affaire d'Arsonval” (2004) and the satirical novel “Un portefeuille toulousain” (2007). Beyond differences in the literary genre, many more or less evident cases of intertextuality reveal surprising contacts between the Romance literature of the Middle Ages, the savants who practise it by profession, and the novels which, the fruit of the same author, borrow many scholarly themes.

This article aims to demonstrate how Charles I of Anjou’s figure and government affected the development of a European cultural and political identity between 1246 and 1285. In fact, the features of anti-Angevin literature (whose major promoters were Occitan troubadours) confirm the existence of a common awareness of political instability and of a widespread feeling of opposition to Charles. In this sense, the fact that different authors used similar recurring forms, themes and rhetorical strategies at the same time suggests the existence of a European identity. New data are given to corroborate this hypothesis, such as the position of German Minnesänger, Austorc de Segret and Ricaut Bonomel (active in the Holy Land), as well as the involvement of European kings (such as Peter III of Aragon, Alfonso X of Castile and Edward I of England) in the context of anti-Angevin poetry.

The paper addresses the two following questions: 1) how should a discourse perspective on specialized communication training course be introduced ? 2) should student’s identity attending a course in specialized communication be taken into account, or, conversely, left out ? Special attention is paid to methodological problems of teaching linguistics. Two MA postgraduate programmes run at Romance Philology are taken as examples La manipulation et ses aspects linguistiques (Linguistic aspects of interpersonal manipulation) and L’image linguistique du monde. Les stéréotypes racistes dans la langue et la culture (Racist stereotypes in language and culture).

Il saggio esamina i rapporti tra l’opera di Erich Auerbach e la cultura tedesca del tempo. In particolare tenta di ricostruire la fitta trama di relazioni esistenti, anche a livello personale. Infatti Auerbach a Berlino aveva studiato non solo con i filologi romanzi Erhard Lommatzsch e Max Leopold Wagner, ma anche col filosofo Ernst Troeltsch e con lo storico Friedrich Meinecke. Nella vasta bibliografia sul romanista non mancano ormai i lavori, fin da quello pionieristico di Dante Della Terza, su questo aspetto della sua formazione accademica. Ma essi sono perlopiù circoscritti al periodo giovanile (traduzione della Scienza nuova e della monografia crociana su Vico), lasciando in ombra l’eredità dello storicismo tedesco. A quest’ultimo, sia dal punto di vista terminologico che da quello concettuale, rivolge l’attenzione il presente saggio che cerca di documentare puntualmente l’influenza di Dilthey, genericamente nota e sostenuta da più studiosi, ma senza osservazioni circostanziate. Essa va ben oltre gli anni venti e si può rintracciare anche nell’opera della maturità di Auerbach più famosa, Mimesis. Come pure non meno essenziale sembra il rapporto col Meinecke delle Origini dello storicismo, che si configura però come uno scambio reciproco d’influssi. Più problematico è da accertare sul piano strettamente documentale quello con Cassirer, probabilmente mediato da Panofsky. La contestualizzazione del retroterra culturale di Mimesis è completata da una ricognizione delle prime recensioni dell’opera e, per quanto l’Italia, anche dall’esame del fascicolo di Auerbach conservato nell’archivio Einaudi. The essay considers the relationship between Erich Auerbach and the German culture of the time. In particular, it attempts to reconstruct the dense web of relationships, even on a personal level. Auerbach indeed in Berlin had studied not only with the romance philologists Erhard Lommatzsch and Max Leopold Wagner, but also with the philosopher Ernst Troeltsch and historian Friedrich Meinecke. In the vast bibliography on the Romanist now no shortage of work, since that pioneering Dante Della Terza, on this aspect of his scholarly training. But they are mostly confined to the early period (translation of the Vico’s Scienza nuova and of Croce’s monograph on Vico), leaving on one side the legacy of German historicism. In the latter, both from the point of view of terminology and from a conceptual, turns its attention this essay that seeks to regularly document the influence of Dilthey, generically known and supported by most scholars, but no detailed comments. It goes far beyond the Twenties and one can also find in the most famous work of the maturity of Auerbach, Mimesis. As well as no less essential seems the relationship with Meinecke’s The Rise of a New Historical Outlook, which is configured, however, as a reciprocal exchange of influences. More problematic is to determine the strictly documentary floor of the relationship with Cassirer, probably mediated by Panofsky. The contextualization of the cultural background of Mimesis is complemented by a survey of the first reviews the work and, as far as Italy, also on an examination of the documents preserved in the Archives Einaudi.

The aim of this paper is to analyze some loci critici which have contributed to the establishment of the genetic relationships between the remaining testimonies of the latin-romance tradition of the Livro de Isaac and propose a stemma based on these loci critici.

This article begins by analysing what the various articles in this monographyc section contribute to a general discussion on the question of cultural transfers. It then goes on to recall a number of theoretical assumptions made by this kind of approach: the difference from comparisons, the stress placed on the context of reception, the question of successive reinterpretations of a cultural import, the role of the history of books and the history of art, and the deconstruction of statements of identity. The article closes by proposing a number of issues through which Hispanic studies can be addressed from the standpoint of cultural transfers: the history of Hispanic studies as a European discipline, the history of extra-mural Spain in certain periods, that of Latin-American cross-culturalisation, of the German roots of Spanish philosophy –all these speak of the importations and the successive interpretations of cultural objects upon which Spanish culture, like others, rests.

Il presente articolo è stato tratto dalla mia tesi di laurea magistrale (giugno 2012): “Proposta di edizione critica del canzoniere di Johan Servando”, che si ascrive al progetto di restauro della tradizione lirica gallego-portoghese attraverso la produzione di monografie dedicate ai singoli trovatori. In questo studio si analizzano i canti di pellegrinaggio composti da Johan Servando (giullare, seconda metà sec. XIII), che formano il più voluminoso ciclo di cantigas de romaría dell’intera tradizione, sotto tre punti di vista: il tentativo di ricostruzione di una trama interna che dia senso al ciclo; il confronto con altre cantigas de romaría della tradizione; un esperimento di analisi delle voci liriche con moderne teorie di critica letteraria.This article has been taken from my master dissertation (July 2012): “Proposal for a critical edition of the songbook by Johan Servando”, which is ascribed to a project of production of monographs dedicated to individual troubadours of the Galician-Portuguese lyric tradition. The study analyzes the songs of pilgrimage composed by Johan Servando (jester, second half sec. XIII), which form the most voluminous cycle of cantigas de romaría among the whole tradition, from three points of view: the attempt to reconstruct a plot that gives meaning to the cycle; the comparison with other cantigas de romaría in the tradition; an experiment of analysis of the “lyrical voices” by using modern theories of literary criticism.

RIASSUNTO: Il contributo focalizza la propria attenzione sul volgarizzamento toscano delle Tusculanae disputationes di Marco Tullio Cicerone, opera ancora sostanzialmente inesplorata, portata a termine a Firenze intorno alla metà del secolo XV su committenza dell’umanista spagnolo Nuño de Guzmán, tramandata da un unico codice precocemente confluito nella Biblioteca del Marchese di Santillana e oggi conservato presso la Bibliothèque Nationale de France di Parigi. Nella prospettiva della futura edizione dell’esemplare, vengono in questa sede affrontate in via preliminare alcune questioni legate alla peculiare storia del testo, accompagnate dalla sintesi descrittiva del manoscritto e dalla trascrizione del Proemio dell’opera.ABSTRACT: This contribution aims at focusing the attention on the tuscan vulgarization of the Tusculanae disputationes by Marcus Tullius Cicero, a work that is still essentially unexplored, finished in Florence around half of XV Century for commission of the spanish humanist Nuño de Guzmán, transmitted by a unique code contained in the Library of the Marquis of Santillana and nowadays kept inside the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in Paris. In the perspective of a future edition of this work, some episodes connected to the history of the text are herein illustrated and examined. There is also a complement with the descriptive synthesis of the manuscript and the transcription of the Proemio of the work.
