Open-cell ceramic foams are widely used as filters for the purification of molten metals due to their high permeability and high efficiency for capturing non-metallic inclusions. With the consideration of manufacture and filtration behaviour, most filters are produced by replica methods. The intrinsic multiscale porous structure requires the ceramic foams to have sufficient strength. As a consequence, different processing approaches, material compositions and characterizations are investigated. Meanwhile, to further enhance the filtration performance, the functionalization of ceramic foam filters is often conducted with surface coating. This review summarizes the processing and characteristics of ceramic foam filters (CFFs), the nature and formation of non-metallic inclusions (NMIs), the filtration mechanism and applications of CFFs. The characterization of mechanical and filtration performance, as well as the corresponding strengthening and functionalization methods are also presented.

Abstract Patients with residual nasopharyngeal carcinoma after receiving definitive treatment have poor prognoses. Although immune checkpoint therapies have achieved breakthroughs for treating recurrent and metastatic nasopharyngeal carcinoma, none of these strategies have been assessed for treating residual nasopharyngeal carcinoma. In this single-arm, phase 2 trial, we aimed to evaluate the antitumor efficacy and safety of toripalimab (anti-PD1 antibody) plus capecitabine in patients with residual nasopharyngeal carcinoma after definitive treatment (ChiCTR1900023710). Primary endpoint of this trial was the objective response rate assessed according to RECIST (version 1.1). Secondary endpoints included complete response rate, disease control rate, duration of response, progression-free survival, safety profile, and treatment compliance. Between June 1, 2020, and May 31, 2021, 23 patients were recruited and received six cycles of toripalimab plus capecitabine every 3 weeks. In efficacy analyses, 13 patients (56.5%) had complete response, and 9 patients (39.1%) had partial response, with an objective response rate of 95.7% (95% CI 78.1-99.9). The trial met its prespecified primary endpoint. In safety analyses, 21 of (91.3%) 23 patients had treatment-related adverse events. The most frequently reported adverse event was hand-foot syndrome (11 patients [47.8%]). The most common grade 3 adverse event was hand-foot syndrome (two patients [8.7%]). No grades 4-5 treatment-related adverse events were recorded. This phase 2 trial shows that combining toripalimab with capecitabine has promising antitumour activity and a manageable safety profile for patients with residual nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

To widen the understanding of tensile failure of reticulated ceramic foams and expand the available mechanical method, a cylindrical splitting test is developed in the present study based on alumina open-cell foams of three different pore densities. The biaxial method is validated by characterization of mechanical parameters, and the in-situ fracture process is validated by a digital image correlation, followed by a formula correction for effective tensile strength with consideration of discrete crack paths. For experimental setup curved loading platens, compliant pad and intermediate quasi-static loading rate are proposed for guaranteeing tensile failure under a radial compressive load. Tensile strength, fracture energy, and brittleness increase with the foam pore density, and the fracture behavior is a balanced result of materials and foam structural support strength. An analytical model of splitting tensile strength with structural parameters is derived, which implies its dependence on cell size and critical stress intensity factor of strut materials.

The flush air data sensing system is a key or important flight sensor subsystem for the measurement of flight atmospheric parameters such as air pressure altitude, indicated airspeed, Mach number, angle of attack and sideshow angle, which are required for flight safety control, communication and navigation of flying wing pneumatic layout aircraft and precise weapon strike. The effectiveness of water-proof, dust-proof, anti-ice and de-icing design of the flush air data pressure sensor in the system is an important guarantee for accurate pressure feeling, stability of atmospheric parameters and real-time performance during flight. In this paper, aiming at the technology present status of water-proof, dust-proof, anti-icing and de-icing of flush air data pressure sensors in flush air data system, the existing shortcomings and defects are analyzed, combined with the needs of engineering application and research results of related engineering technology, the flush air data pressure sensor for complex meteorological environment protection status online monitoring, heater power adaptive control and rapid disassembling design as development direction is proposed, the future research goal and content of flush air data pressure sensor for complex meteorological environment protection technology are illustrated, and the solutions of key technologies such as moisture monitoring technology, freezing condition monitoring technology, surface hydrophobic and low detectable technology and easy maintenance structure design technology are presented.

Abstract Purpose In this study, we aimed to compare the radiation-induced hepatic toxicity (RIHT) outcomes of radiotherapy (RT) plus antibodies against programmed cell death protein 1 (anti-PD1) versus RT alone in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), evaluate prognostic factors of non-classic radiation-induced liver disease (ncRILD), and establish a nomogram for predicting the probability of ncRILD. Patients and methods Patients with unresectable HCC treated with RT and anti-PD1 (RT + PD1, n = 30) or RT alone (n = 66) were enrolled retrospectively. Patients (n = 30) in each group were placed in a matched cohort using propensity score matching (PSM). Treatment-related hepatotoxicity was evaluated and analyzed before and after PSM. The prognostic factors affecting ncRILD were identified by univariable logistic analysis and Spearman’s rank test in the matched cohort to generate a nomogram. Results There were no differences in RIHT except for increased aspartate aminotransferase (AST) ≥ grade 1 and increased total bilirubin ≥ grade 1 between the two groups before PSM. After PSM, AST ≥ grade 1 occurred more frequently in the RT + PD1 group (p = 0.020), and there were no significant differences in other hepatotoxicity metrics between the two groups. In the matched cohort, V25, tumor number, age, and prothrombin time (PT) were the optimal prognostic factors for ncRILD modeling. A nomogram revealed a good predictive performance (area under the curve = 0.82). Conclusions The incidence of RIHT in patients with HCC treated with RT + PD1 was acceptable and similar to that of RT treatment. The nomogram based on V25, tumor number, age, and PT robustly predicted the probability of ncRILD.

Abstract Objectives This study aimed to investigate the incidence, consequences, and predictors of serious chemotherapy‐induced thrombocytopenia (CIT) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Materials and Methods We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of patients with NPC between 2013 and 2015. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression model and propensity score matching were used to estimate the effect of serious CIT on overall survival. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were applied to identify the predictors of serious CIT. Results and Conclusion The incidence of serious CIT was 5.21% in patients with NPC. Patients who experienced serious thrombocytopenia had a worse long‐term prognosis, while the difference in short‐term survival rate was slight. Chemotherapy regimens of gemcitabine and platinum, 5‐fluorouracil and platinum, taxane and platinum, serum potassium ion concentration, serum lactate dehydrogenase levels, platelet count, red blood cell count, and estimated glomerular filtration rate were predictors of serious CIT.

Materials that exhibit very small dimensional changes with temperature, i.e., near-zero thermal expansion (NZTE) properties, find attractive prospects in fields such as precision instrumentation and aerospace. However, how to manually design and synthesize NZTE materials with high performance instead of laboriously exploring composition has been a long-standing challenge. In this study, based on the excellent bonding and forming abilities of metallic glass (MG), a composite with continuous regulation of thermal expansion was obtained by combining different volume ratios of MG with beta-LiAlSiO4 (beta-LAS) possessing negative thermal expansion (NTE). Interestingly, excellent NZTE performance of 0.693 and 1.587 ppm/K was achieved over the 150–700 K temperature range when the volume ratio of MG was 40% and 50%, respectively. In addition, the compressive strength of the NZTE composite reached 320 and 436 MPa for the above two ratios, respectively. The thermal shock resistance results show that the composite can withstand thermal cycling tests of not less than 80 times. The proposed strategy not only provides new NZTE materials with high performance but also facilitates a shift in the preparation of high-performance NZTE composites from laborious search to customizable design.

The development of the oxy-fuel porous media combustion technique not only takes advantage of the characteristics of porous media combustion, such as a relatively low lean-burn limit and small volume, but also dramatically facilitates carbon capture and storage. In this paper, a two-layer porous burner model is established, in which a two-temperature equation model is adopted for calculation purposes. Differences in combustion behaviour between oxy-fuel and air-fuel conditions are compared. The results show that the difference in physical properties between CO2 and air is the main reason for the significant variation of combustion behaviours under the conditions of oxy-fuel compared to air-fuel. The specific performance is lower combustion temperature and flame propagation speed. The temperature under oxy-fuel combustion conditions is 300 K lower than that under air-fuel combustion conditions at an equivalence ratio of 0.6, and the stable range of oxy-fuel combustion is only approximately 50% of air-fuel combustion. The impact of porous media material parameters on combustion behavior has been investigated. These variables include the equivalence ratio, material thermal conductivity, volume heat transfer coefficient, and extinction coefficient, while the ratio of O2/CO2 remains fixed at 0.21/0.79. The influence of these variables on the stable velocity range and temperature field is consistent, but a large difference in values occurs. Reducing the thermal resistance of the burner by adjusting the properties of the porous matrix can increase the velocity limit of stable combustion. However, even if the thermal conductivity and extinction coefficient are increased by 5 times, there will be no significant impact on the stable range. Reducing the pore size of the combustion zone by 50% will increase the stable range by over 100%.

Abstract Background The incidence of classic radiation-induced liver disease (cRILD) has been significantly reduced. However, non-classic radiation-induced liver disease (ncRILD) remains a major concern following radiotherapy in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study evaluated the incidence of ncRILD following intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) for Child–Pugh grade B (CP-B) patients with locally advanced HCC and established a nomogram for predicting ncRILD probability. Methods Seventy-five CP-B patients with locally advanced HCC treated with IMRT between September 2014 and July 2021 were included. The max tumor size was 8.39 cm ± 5.06, and the median prescribed dose was 53.24 Gy ± 7.26. Treatment-related hepatotoxicity was evaluated within three months of completing IMRT. A nomogram model was formulated to predict the probability of ncRILD, using univariate and multivariate analysis. Results Among CP-B patients with locally advanced HCC, ncRILD occurred in 17 (22.7%) patients. Two patients (2.7%) exhibited a transaminase elevation of ≥ G3, fourteen (18.7%) exhibited a Child–Pugh score increase of ≥ 2, and one (1.3%) demonstrated both a transaminase elevation of ≥ G3 and a Child–Pugh score increase of ≥ 2. No cRILD cases were observed. A mean dose to the normal liver of ≥ 15.1 Gy was used as the cutoff for ncRILD. Multivariate analysis revealed that the prothrombin time before IMRT, tumour number, and mean dose to the normal liver were independent risk factors for ncRILD. The nomogram established on the basis of these risk factors displayed exceptional predictive performance (AUC = 0.800, 95% CI 0.674–0.926). Conclusions The incidence of ncRILD following IMRT for CP-B patients with locally advanced HCC was acceptable. A nomogram based on prothrombin time before IMRT, tumour number, and mean dose to the normal liver accurately predicted the probability of ncRILD in these patients.

Abstract Background For patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (uHCC), intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) has become one of the options for clinical local treatment. Immune parameters, including platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and systemic immune inflammatory (SII), predict survival in various cancers. This study aimed to determine whether peripheral immune parameters can predict survival in patients with uHCC undergoing IMRT and establish a clinically useful prognostic nomogram for survival prediction. Methods The clinical data of 309 HCC patients were retrospectively analyzed and randomly divided into training (n = 216) and validation (n = 93) cohorts. PLR, NLR and SII were collected before and after IMRT. Univariate and multivariate Cox analyses were performed to identify independent prognostic factors affecting survival, which were used to generate a nomogram. Skeletal muscle atrophy is a frequent complication after spinal cord injury (SCI) and can influence the recovery of motor function and metabolism in affected patients. Delaying skeletal muscle atrophy can promote functional recovery in SCI rats. In the present study, we investigated whether a combination of body weight support treadmill training (BWSTT) and glycine and N-acetylcysteine (GlyNAC) could exert neuroprotective effects, promote motor function recovery, and delay skeletal muscle atrophy in rats with SCI, and we assessed the therapeutic effects of the double intervention from both a structural and functional viewpoint. We found that, after SCI, rats given GlyNAC alone showed an improvement in Basso–Beattie–Bresnahan (BBB) scores, gait symmetry, and results in the open field test, indicative of improved motor function, while GlyNAC combined with BWSTT was more effective than either treatment alone at ameliorating voluntary motor function in injured rats. Meanwhile, the results of the skeletal muscle myofiber cross-sectional area (CSA), hindlimb grip strength, and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) immunostaining analysis demonstrated that GlyNAC improved the structure and function of the skeletal muscle in rats with SCI and delayed the atrophication of skeletal muscle.

Abstract Background The combination of transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) plus sorafenib prolonged progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) than sorafenib or TACE monotherapy for patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study assessed the efficacy and safety of radiotherapy (RT) plus monoclonal antibody against programmed cell death 1 (anti-PD1) versus TACE plus sorafenib for patients with advanced HCC. Methods Patients with advanced HCC who treated with RT plus anti-PD1 and TACE plus sorafenib were enrolled. Objective response rate (ORR), PFS, disease control rate (DCR) and OS were calculated to assess the antitumor response and the treatment-related adverse events to the safety. Results Between January 2018 to March 2021, 37 patients underwent RT plus anti-PD1 and 41 patients underwent TACE plus sorafenib. The baseline characteristics between the two groups were comparable. Due to the distinct design concept, high-entropy alloys (HEAs) exhibit unusual properties and lead an emerging new field. In this work, we show that a typical face-centered cubic crystalline phase CoCrFeNiMn HEA can be readily transformed into the amorphous phase under the ultrasonic vibration treatment (UVT) at a frequency of 20000 Hz. The nanoscale hierarchical features include twins, stacking faults bands, hexagonal-close packed phase bands and even amorphous bands can be obviously identified in samples treated by different UVT energies. The dominant mechanism of ultrasonic vibration-induced amorphization is that the grain refinement promotes the formation of amorphous phases when the defect density at the grain boundaries reaches a critical level. In addition, the mechanical instability is easily induced by ultrasonic vibration at high strain rate to generate amorphous phase inside the grains. As a consequence of UVT, the HEA samples revealed significant mechanical performance improvement owing to the microstructure evolution especially the generation of amorphous phase, such as yielding strength and hardness. This rapid amorphization process provides not only a candidate strengthening mechanism for HEA, but also a novel approach to unveil the pending crystal-amorphous transition problem.

Aiming at the low receiving power of space laser communication, a real-time space laser Pulse Position Modulation (PPM) communication system with high receiver sensitivity is designed and implemented in this paper and the transmission rate of this system is 800 Mslot/s. The experimental results show that, after using Erbium Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA) and optical filter, under the condition of -58.3 dBm optical input, the Bit Error Rate (BER) of the system before error code correction is 1.4E-4 and the system has ultra-high receiver sensitivity.

The separation of light actinides plays an important role in the fields of nuclear industry, environmental radiochemistry, nuclear forensics, etc. Solid phase extraction(SPE) is one of the main methods for the separation of light actinides, and the key of this method is to select adsorbents with excellent adsorption performance and good physicochemical stability. Porous metal phosphonates are a kind of inorganic-organic hybrid materials combined of metal centers and organic phosphonic acid ligands. Generally, they exhibit high specific surface area, abundant active sites and good physicochemical stability, as well as excellent adsorption properties due to the outstanding binding ability of phosphonic groups to light actinides. Therefore, they are expected to be used as adsorbents for light actinides. In this review, the synthesis and structure of porous metal phosphonates are summarized, and their application in the separation of light actinides is focused, including the adsorption properties, adsorption mechanism, the physiochemical stability and practical treatment methods of these materials, etc. In the end, the development of this field is prospected.

Summary: In nasopharyngeal carcinoma, deep-learning extracted signatures on MR images might be correlated with survival. In this study, we sought to develop an individualizing model using deep-learning MRI signatures and clinical data to predict survival and to estimate the benefit of induction chemotherapy on survivals of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Two thousand ninety-seven patients from three independent hospitals were identified and randomly assigned. When the deep-learning signatures of the primary tumor and clinically involved gross cervical lymph nodes extracted from MR images were added to the clinical data and TNM staging for the progression-free survival prediction model, the combined model achieved better prediction performance. Its application is among patients deciding on treatment regimens. Under the same conditions, with the increasing MRI signatures, the survival benefits achieved by induction chemotherapy are increased. In nasopharyngeal carcinoma, these prediction models are the first to provide an individualized estimation of survivals and model the benefit of induction chemotherapy on survivals.

PurposeCurrently, the relationship between radiation pneumonia (RP) and circulating immune cell in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the relationship between RP and circulating lymphocyte subsets in patients with ESCC receiving chemoradiotherapy (CRT), and develop a nomogram model to predict RP. Since we should implement clinical intervention to ≥ grade 2 RP, a nomogram model for ≥ grade 2 RP was also established to provide an early warning.Patients and methodsThis study retrospectively included 121 patients with ESCC receiving CRT from Guangxi Medical University Cancer Hospital from 2013 to 2021. Independent factors associated with occurrence of RP and ≥ grade 2 RP were identified by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis in the training cohort, and incorporated into nomograms. The predictive accuracy and discrimination of the model was assessed using Concordance Index (C-index), calibration curve and decision curve analysis (DCA). And each model was internally validated. Additionally, to verify the optimized predictive performance of the nomograms, the area under the ROC curve (AUC) of each nomogram was compared to that of single independent risk factors, lung V10 and lung V20, respectively. Moreover, each model was further evaluated for risk stratification to identify populations at high risk of RP and ≥ grade 2 RP.ResultsMultivariate analysis suggested that TNM stage, post-RT percentage of CD8+ T cell, and lung V15 were independent predictive factors of RP. Besides, pre- and post-RT percentage of CD8+ T cell, and V15 were independent factors of ≥ grade 2 RP. The C-indexes of RP and ≥ grade 2 RP nomograms were 0.809 (95% CI: 0.715-0.903) and 0.787 (95% CI: 0.685-0.889) in the training cohort, respectively. And the C-indexes of RP and ≥ grade 2 RP nomograms were 0.718 (95% CI: 0.544-0.892) and 0.621 (95% CI: 0.404-0.837) in the validation cohort, respectively. The calibration curves showed that the predicted values of model agreed well with actual observations. Moreover, DCA results indicated the applicability and accuracy of the models to predict RP and ≥ grade 2 RP. After stratification, the incidence of the high-risk group was significantly higher than that of the low-risk group with respect to either RP or ≥ grade 2 RP.ConclusionTNM stage, post-RT percentage of CD8+ T cell, and lung V15 were the independent predictors of RP toxicity. Pre- and post-RT percentage of CD8+ T cell, and lung V15 were the independent factors of ≥ grade 2 RP toxicity. The nomograms based on circulating lymphocyte subsets can robustly predict RP and ≥ grade 2 RP, guiding clinicians in risk stratification and early intervention.

Abstract Background The optimal dose and fractionation scheme of stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains unclear due to different tolerated liver volumes and degrees of cirrhosis. In this study, we aimed to verify the dose-survival relationship to optimize dose selection for treatment of HCC. Methods This multicenter retrospective study included 602 patients with HCC, treated with SBRT between January 2011 and March 2017. BackgroundRadiation-induced lung injury (RILI) is a severe side effect of radiotherapy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) ,and one of the major hindrances to improve the efficacy of radiotherapy. Previous studies have confirmed that sodium butyrate (NaB) has potential of anti-radiation toxicity. However, the mechanism of the protective effect of NaB against RILI has not yet been clarified. This study aimed to explore the underlying protective mechanisms of NaB against RILI in NSCLC through network pharmacology, molecular docking, molecular dynamic simulations and in vivo experiments.MethodsThe predictive target genes of NaB were obtained from the PharmMapper database and the literature review. The involved genes of RILI and NSCLC were predicted using OMIM and GeneCards database. The intersectional genes of drug and disease were identified using the Venny tool and uploaded to the Cytoscape software to identify 5 core target genes of NaB associated with RILI. The correlations between the 5 core target genes and EGFR, PD-L1, immune infiltrates, chemokines and chemokine receptors were analyzed using TIMER 2.0, TIMER and TISIDB databases. We constructed the mechanism maps of the 3 key signaling pathways using the KEGG database based on the results of GO and KEGG analyses from Metascape database. The 5 core target genes and drug were docked using the AutoDock Vina tool and visualized using PyMOL software. GROMACS software was used to perform 100 ns molecular dynamics simulation. Irradiation-induced lung injury model in mice were established to assess the therapeutic effects of NaB.ResultsA total of 51 intersectional genes involved in NaB against RILI in NSCLC were identified. The 5 core target genes were AKT1, TP53, NOTCH1, SIRT1, and PTEN. The expressions of the 5 core target genes were significantly associated with EGFR, PD-L1, immune infiltrates, chemokines and chemokine receptors, respectively. The results from GO analysis of the 51 intersectional genes revealed that the biological processes were focused on the regulation of smooth muscle cell proliferation, oxidative stress and cell death, while the three key KEGG pathways were enriched in PI3K-Akt signal pathway, p53 signal pathway, and FOXO signal pathway. The docking of NaB with the 5 core target genes showed affinity and stability, especially AKT1. In vivo experiments showed that NaB treatment significantly protected mice from RILI, with reduced lung histological damage. In addition, NaB treatment significantly inhibited the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway.ConclusionsNaB may protect patients from RILI in NSCLC through multiple target genes including AKT1, TP53, NOTCH1, SIRT1 and PTEN, with multiple signaling pathways involving, including PI3K-Akt pathway, p53 pathway, and FOXO pathways. Our findings effectively provide a feasible theoretical basis to further elucidate the mechanism of NaB in the treatment of RILI.

In order to solve the problem that the laser satellite terminal can realize the ranging function while completing the communication function, this paper designs a method based on the Delta-Sigma modulation to realize the laser phase ranging, which can integrate the functions of communication and ranging. Multi-frequency point phase ranging is used to balance ranging range and ranging accuracy. Multi-frequency modulation signals are generated using high-speed digital Input and Output (I/O) ports based on Delta-Sigma modulation without any Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC). Based on the Delta-Sigma modulation method, multiple frequency points for multi-frequency phase ranging can be generated at the same time, which is better than the traditional method of generating each single frequency point separately. Selecting the high frequency of 187.50 MHz and the low frequency of 1.50 MHz, the ranging accuracy can achieve 1 mm in the range of less than 100 m.

RING finger protein 135 has an important role in the occurrence of many cancers; however its regulation and function of RNF135 in hepatocellular carcinoma remains unknown. The promoter methylation status and mRNA expression of RNF135 was evaluated by methylation-specific PCR, semi-quantitative RT-PCR, and real-time quantitative PCR in HCC tissues and cell lines, and further analyzed from The Cancer Genome Atlas database. Wound healing assay, transwell migration, cell viability, and colony formation assay were performed to investigate the function of RNF135. GSEA analysis, TIMER database, and ESTIMATE algorithm were used to decipher the associated pathway and immune infiltration. The survival analysis was applied to assess the prognostic value of RNF135. RNF135 expression was downregulated in HCC tissues and 5 of 8 HCC cell lines, and was negatively correlated with its promoter hypermethylation. Demethylating regent decitabine restored RNF135 expression on the cellular level. Knockdown of RNF135 expression enhanced the migration of HCC cells, while RNF135 overexpression and decitabine treatment repressed cell migration. Bioinformatics analysis and immunohistochemistry revealed a positive relationship between RNF135 expression and six immune cell infiltrates (B cells, CD4+ T cells, CD8+ T cells, neutrophils, macrophages, and dendritic cells). Survival analysis disclosed that RNF135 hypermethylation is independently associated with poor clinical outcomes in HCC. Decreased RNF135 expression driven by promoter hypermethylation frequently occurred in HCC and associated with prognosis of HCC. RNF135 functions as a tumor suppressor and is involved in tumor immune microenvironment in HCC.

Measurement error is non-negligible and crucial in SHM data analysis. In many applications of SHM, measurement errors are statistically correlated in space and/or in time for data from sensor networks. Existing works solely consider spatial correlation for measurement error. When both spatial and temporal correlation are considered simultaneously, the existing works collapse, as they do not possess a suitable form describing spatially and temporally correlated measurement error. In order to tackle this burden, this paper generalizes the form of correlated measurement error from spatial correlation only or temporal correlation only to spatial-temporal correlation. A new form of spatial-temporal correlation and the corresponding likelihood function are proposed, and multiple candidate model classes for the measurement error are constructed, including no correlation, spatial correlation, temporal correlation, and the proposed spatial-temporal correlation. Bayesian system identification is conducted to achieve not only the posterior probability density function (PDF) for the model parameters, but also the posterior probability of each candidate model class for selecting the most suitable/plausible model class for the measurement error. Examples are presented with applications to model updating and modal frequency prediction under varying environmental conditions, ensuring the necessity of considering correlated measurement error and the capability of the proposed Bayesian system identification in the uncertainty quantification at the parameter and model levels.

In this work, a rapid and controllable ultrasonic vibration method for forming Al-based metallic glass at room temperature is proposed. This method can dramatically improve the forming ability of Al-based metallic glasses, which are virtually brittle at room temperature and have almost no supercooled liquid region at high temperatures. Under ultrasonic vibration, Al-based metallic glasses exhibited obvious plastic flow, with a maximum deformation degree up to 58% and an average deformation degree up to 43%. It is worth mentioning that no crystalline peaks were found on the X-ray diffraction patterns after deformation under ultrasonic vibration, and the mechanical properties remained the same as the primary sample. The present results provide a new approach for the deformation and forming of Al-based metallic glasses, which can significantly broaden their applications.

BackgroundIn this study, we designed a new (Su’S) target area delineation to protect the normal liver during liver regeneration and prospectively evaluate liver regeneration after radiotherapy, as well as to explore the clinical factors of liver regeneration and established a model and nomogram.MethodsThirty patients treated with preoperative downstaging radiotherapy were prospectively included in the training cohort, and 21 patients treated with postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy were included in the validation cohort. The cut-off points of each optimal predictor were obtained using receiver-operating characteristic analysis. A model and nomogram for liver regeneration after radiotherapy were developed and validated.ResultsAfter radiotherapy, 12 (40%) and 13 (61.9%) patients in the training and validation cohorts experienced liver regeneration, respectively. The risk stratification model based on the cutoffs of standard residual liver volume spared from at least 20 Gy (SVs20 = 303.4 mL/m2) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT=43 u/L) was able to effectively discriminate the probability of liver regeneration. The model and nomogram of liver regeneration based on SVs20 and ALT showed good prediction performance (AUC=0.759) in the training cohort and performed well (AUC=0.808) in the validation cohort.ConclusionsSVs20 and ALT were optimal predictors of liver regeneration. This model may be beneficial to the constraints of the normal liver outside the radiotherapy-targeted areas.

A hybrid process combining ultrasonic injection molding and electrical discharge machining was proposed to realize the economic, high-precision, and environmental-friendliness production of glass fiber reinforced polypropylene microstructured parts. First, the prism array microstructures were processed on tungsten carbide-cobalt (WC-8 wt% Co) substrate by low-speed wire electrical discharge machining and used as the mold core. Then, the glass fiber reinforced polypropylene composite (GF/PP) was melted under ultrasonic vibration, and the surface microstructure of the mold core was replicated. The experimental results show that this method can efficiently and accurately manufacture microstructured parts, and the microstructure has a high replication rate up to 95.5%. By replicating the microstructure, the surface contact angle of GF/PP parts increased from 57.1° to 134.9°, and the wettability changed from hydrophilicity to hydrophobicity. The mechanical properties test results show that the GF/PP parts fabricated by ultrasonic injection molding had excellent mechanical properties, and the 30% GF/PP parts show the highest tensile strength of 56.9 MPa. This work provides a new option for fabricating fiber reinforced composite parts.

In the present work, PH13-8Mo stainless steel parts without yttrium and with yttrium (Y) were manufactured by selective laser melting (SLM). The microstructure, phase composition and grain orientation of the stainless steels parts with Y and without Y were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron-backscatter diffraction (EBSD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). The characterization results revealed that the addition of Y clearly refined the grain size of the PH13-8Mo steel formed part, resulting in more equiaxed massive grains and in a less anisotropic microstructure. PH13-8Mo stainless steel formed parts were mainly composed of martensite and retained austenite. The addition of Y could significantly increase the content of retained austenite and also generate nano-sized precipitates containing Y. The mechanical test results showed that both strength and toughness of the shaped parts containing Y were improved synergistically. The yield strength reached 1443 MPa, the elongation was 12.2%, and the room temperature impact energy reached 124.25 J/cm2. The strengthening and toughening by Y of the formed parts were mainly attributed to grain refinement, higher volume fraction of the retained austenite and the formation of nano-sized precipitates containing Y.

Abstract Background Child-Turcotte-Pugh (CTP) score extensively used to assess hepatic function, predicting postoperative outcome of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. Lately, the albumin–bilirubin (ALBI) grade has been identified to be a predictor of overall survival of HCC patients. In this investigation, we compared the pre-SBRT ALBI and CTP scores with the prognosis of patients with HCC. Methods This cohort study included 594 HCC patients who treated with SBRT. Overall survival (OS) rates were measured from treatment date to death date or last follow-up. We compared ALBI score with the CTP score in predicting long-term survival. Results The average follow-up time was 21 months (1 to 82 months). The CTP and ALBI ratings have discriminatory for long-term survival across the groups. CTP class was significantly related to OS, with a median OS of 29.9 months in CTP-A, 11.5 in CTP-B (P 0.05). Conclusions To assess liver dysfunction in HCC patients before SBRT, traditional CTP classification is a necessary but imperfect tool for assessing HCC liver injury. The ALBI score is a more objective, discriminatory and evidence-based approach in CTP-A groups, and need to be validated in CTP ≥ B7 class.

Kai Xin San (KXS, containing ginseng, hoelen, polygala, and acorus), a traditional Chinese herbal compound, has been found to regulate cognitive dysfunction; however, its mechanism of action is still unclear. In this study, 72 specific-pathogen-free male Kunming mice aged 8 weeks were randomly divided into a vehicle control group, scopolamine group, low-dose KXS group, moderate-dose KXS group, high-dose KXS group, and positive control group. Except for the vehicle control group and scopolamine groups (which received physiological saline), the doses of KXS (0.7, 1.4 and 2.8 g/kg per day) and donepezil (3 mg/kg per day) were gastrointestinally administered once daily for 2 weeks. On day 8 after intragastric treatment, the behavioral tests were carried out. Scopolamine group and intervention groups received scopolamine 3 mg/kg per day through intraperitoneal injection. The effects of KXS on spatial learning and memory, pathological changes of brain tissue, expression of apoptosis factors, oxidative stress injury factors, synapse-associated protein, and cholinergic neurotransmitter were measured. The results confirmed the following. (1) KXS shortened the escape latency and increased residence time in the target quadrant and the number of platform crossings in the Morris water maze. (2) KXS increased the percentage of alternations between the labyrinth arms in the mice of KXS groups in the Y-maze. (3) Nissl and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling staining revealed that KXS promoted the production of Nissl bodies and inhibited the formation of apoptotic bodies. (4) Western blot assay showed that KXS up-regulated the expression of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 and inhibited the expression of pro-apoptotic protein Bax. KXS up-regulated the expression of postsynaptic density 95, synaptophysin, and brain-derived neurotrophic factor in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus. (5) KXS increased the level and activity of choline acetyltransferase, acetylcholine, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase, and reduced the level and activity of acetyl cholinesterase, reactive oxygen species, and malondialdehyde through acting on the cholinergic system and reducing oxidative stress damage. These results indicate that KXS plays a neuroprotective role and improves cognitive function through reducing apoptosis and oxidative stress, and regulating synapse-associated protein and cholinergic neurotransmitters.

Despite the excellent properties, amorphous alloys find limited applications and to find plastic forming ability has been a longstanding problem. In this work, an effective ultrasonic assisted micro-shear punching (UMSP) method is proposed for amorphous alloys. By applying ultrasonic vibration and molten plastics viscous medium, a series of shapes and products with micro-length scale to macro-length scale can be successfully fabricated in 50 ms. Different from traditional crystalline alloys, the amorphous alloys become soft at certain regions during the ultrasonic hammering owing to the unique disordered structures, thereby resulting in the low-stress forming approach.

Background: Macroscopic vascular invasion (MVI) is a terminal manifestation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and carries an extremely poor prognosis. In Chinese and Korean HCC guidelines, transarterial chemoembolization (TACE), or/and radiotherapy (RT) is adopted for treatment of MVI. In the current study, we aimed to compare the long-term outcome of TACE + RT to that of RT alone in patients with local advanced HCC with MVI.Methods: In this retrospective study, 148 treatment-naive patients of HCC with MVI were enrolled. Of the patients enrolled, 49 received TACE + RT treatment, whereas 99 patients received RT alone as a monotherapy. Overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and intrahepatic control were evaluated using univariable and propensity score–matched analyses.Results: During follow-up, 126 patients (85.1%) died. The median follow-up time was 55.0 months in the RT group and 57.0 months in the TACE + RT group. The TACE + RT group showed better OS and PFS than the RT group, but intrahepatic control was comparable in these two groups. Of 41 cases well-pairs after propensity score matching, the associations between TACE + RT and better OS and PFS remained (15.0 vs. 8.0 months, and 8.0 vs. 4.0 months, all P < 0.05). The 1-, 2-, 3-, and 5-years OS rates in the TACE + RT group were 56.1, 28.6, 20.8, and 15.7 vs. 31.5%, 13.1%, 9.8%, and 6.7% in the RT group, respectively (P = 0.017). The 6-, 12-, and 24-months rates in the TACE + RT group were 51.2, 39.0, and 23.1% vs. 36.6%, 13.9%, and 11.1% in the RT group, respectively (P = 0.04). Two patients (4.1%) experienced radiation-induced liver disease (RILD), and one (2.0%) experienced RT-related gastrointestinal (GI) bleed in the TACE + RT groups. Nine patients (9.1%) experienced RILD, and two (2.0%) experienced RT-related GI bleed in the RT groups.Conclusion: Transarterial chemoembolization + RT had well-complementarity with no more complications than RT alone, providing a better PFS and OS compared with RT-alone treatment for HCC with MVI.

Background and Objective: It is unclear if stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) or transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is better for the treatment of inoperable early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aimed to retrospectively compare the efficacy of SBRT to TACE in patients with inoperable Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer (BCLC)-A stage HCC.Materials and Methods: In this multi-institutional retrospective study, a total of 326 patients with inoperable BCLC-A stage HCC were enrolled. Totally, 167 patients initially received SBRT and 159 initially received TACE. Overall survival (OS), local control (LC), intrahepatic control (IC), and progression-free survival (PFS) were evaluated in univariable and propensity-score matched analyses.Results: There was a smaller median tumor size in the SBRT group than in the TACE group (3.4 cm vs. 7.2 cm, P < 0.001). After propensity score matching in the selection of 95 patient pairs, SBRT had better LC, IC, and PFS than TACE but showed comparable OS. The accumulative 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS rates were 85.7, 65.1, and 62.8% in the SBRT group and 83.6, 61.0, and 50.4% in the TACE group, respectively (P = 0.29). The accumulative 1-, 3-, and 5-year PFS were 63.4, 35.9, and 27.5% in the SBRT group and 53.5, 27.4, and 14.2% in the TACE group, respectively (P = 0.049). The accumulative 1-, 3-, and 5-year LC were 86.8, 62.5, and 56.9% in the SBRT group and 69.3, 53.3, and 36.6% in the TACE group, respectively (P = 0.0047). The accumulative 1-, 3-, and 5-year IC were 77.3, 45.9, and 42.4% in the SBRT group and 57.3, 34.1, and 17.7% in the TACE group, respectively (P = 0.003). On multivariate analysis, treatment (SBRT vs. TACE) was a significant covariate associated with local and intrahepatic control (HR = 1.59; 95% CI: 1.03–2.47; P = 0.04; HR = 1.61; 95% CI: 1.13–2.29; P = 0.009).Conclusions: SBRT was an alternative to TACE for inoperable BCLC-A stage HCC with better local and intrahepatic control. Controlled clinical trials are recommended to evaluate the actual effects of this novel regimen adequately.

Background: Several epidemiological studies have been performed to evaluate the association of dietary intake of vitamin C-oriented foods (DIVCF) with risk of fracture and bone mineral density (BMD) loss, but the results remain controversial. Therefore, we conducted a systematic meta-analysis to assess this correlation.Methods: We searched EmBase, PubMed, Web of Science, and the Chinese database CNKI for relevant articles published up to August 2019. Pooled relative risks (RRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated using the random- or fixed-effects model. Discrepancies were resolved by consultation with a third expert.Results: A total of 13 eligible articles (including 17 studies) with 19,484 subjects were identified for the present meta-analysis. The pooled RR of hip fracture for the highest vs. lowest category was 0.66 (95% CI, 0.47–0.94) for DIVCF, i.e., people with a greater frequency of Vitamin C uptake had a 34% (95% CI, 6%−53%) lower prevalence of hip fracture. In subgroup analyses stratified by study design, gender, and age, the negative associations were statistically significant. Furthermore, the statistical analysis of the association between DIVCF and risk of osteoporosis (RR, 0.66; 95% CI, 0.48–0.92), BMD at the lumbar spine (pooled r, 0.15; 95% CI, 0.09–0.23), and BMD at the femoral neck (pooled r, 0.20; 95% CI, 0.11–0.34) showed beneficial effects of DIVCF.Conclusion: Our meta-analysis indicates that DIVCF is negatively associated with the risk of hip fracture, osteoporosis, and BMD loss, suggesting that DIVCF decreases the risk of hip fracture, osteoporosis, and BMD loss.

Mullite reticulated porous ceramics (RPC) are one of the key components for porous media burner, the mechanical properties of mullite RPC decided the service life of the burner. However, the irregularities of cellular structure made it difficult to reveal the fracture behavior of mullite RPCs. In this study, the three-dimensional (3-D) structures of mullite RPCs were analyzed by X-ray computed tomography. The strength and damage behavior of mullite RPCs were respectively investigated via the compression tests and finite element modeling based on the actual 3-D model, also the corresponding strengthening mechanism was proposed. The results indicated that the reconstructed 3-D model exhibited the real microstructure of mullite RPCs, containing the hollow struts and strut defects. The Young's modulus calculated from actual 3-D structures was lower than that from Gibson-Ashby theory. In addition, the surface defects preceded triangular tips to generate the area of stress concentration, leading to the fracture behavior first occurred at the strut defects. With the formation of dense strut in mullite RPCs, the stress uniformly distributed in the whole solid skeleton, thus significantly improving the damage resistance of mullite RPCs.

Background: Several epidemiological articles have reported the correlations between anti-osteoporosis medication and the risks of fractures in male and female subjects, but the specific efficacy of anti-osteoporosis medication for male subjects remains largely unexplored.Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between anti-osteoporosis medication and the risk of fracture in relation to low bone mass [including outcomes of osteoporosis, fracture, and bone mineral density (BMD) loss] in male subjects analyzed in studies within the updated literature.Methods: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that analyzed the effectiveness of a treating prescription for male subjects with osteoporosis (or low BMD) and that focused on the outcomes of fracture were included. Relevant studies from Embase, Web of Science, PubMed, and Chinese database of CNKI were retrieved from inception to January 30th, 2019. Two staff members carried out the eligibility assessment and data extraction. The discrepancies were settled by consultation with another researcher. We calculated the pooled relative risks (RRs) based on 95% confidence intervals (CIs).Results: Twenty-seven documents (28 studies) with 5,678 subjects were identified. For the category of bisphosphonates, significant results were observed in pooled analyses for decreased risk of the vertebral fracture domain (RR, 0.44 [95% CI, 0.31–0.62]), nonvertebral fracture domain (RR, 0.63 [95% CI, 0.46–0.87]), and clinical fracture domain (RR, 0.59 [95% CI, 0.48–0.72]) compared with those of controls. Participants with bisphosphonates had a 56% (95% CI = 38–69%) lower risk of vertebral fractures, 37% (95% CI = 13–54%) lower risk of nonvertebral fractures, and 41% (95% CI = 28–52%) lower risk of clinical fractures. Furthermore, meta-analyses also demonstrated a decreased risk of the vertebral fracture domain via treatment with risedronate (RR, 0.45 [95% CI, 0.28–0.72]) and alendronate (RR, 0.41 [95% CI, 0.23–0.74]), but not with calcitriol, calcitonin, denosumab, ibandronate, monofluorophosphate, strontium ranelate, teriparatide, or zoledronic acid, compared with that of controls.Conclusions: This systematic review confirms that bisphosphonates were connected with a decreased risk of vertebral fractures, nonvertebral fractures, and clinical fractures for male subjects with osteoporosis. Future research is needed to further elucidate the role of nonbisphosphonates in treating fractures of osteoporosis subjects.

To investigate the optimal longitudinal seismic energy dissipation system of straddle-type monorail-cum-road long-span cable-stayed bridges, the Niutianyang Bridge was selected as the engineering background, and the explicit time-domain dimension-reduced iteration method was adopted to carry out nonlinear time-history analysis. To consider the dynamic characteristics of longitudinal movable supports, the static and dynamic responses of four kinds of energy dissipation systems were studied, including longitudinal unconstrained, elastic cable, viscous damper, and speed lock-up devices. The damping effect of four types of schemes in which viscous dampers were installed at piers or towers was analysed, and the parameters of the viscous dampers were optimised. The influences of the straddle-type monorail train braking force and the running vibration of the straddle-type monorail traffic on the parameters of the viscous dampers were analysed. This study shows that the viscous damper system had the lowest bending moment at the bottom of the tower and a smaller displacement response, and the energy dissipation was the best. Each viscous damper had the highest energy dissipation efficiency when they are installed only at the main tower. The damping effect was better when the damping coefficient c ranged from 3500 to 5000 kN⋅m/s−α and the velocity exponent α ranged from 0.35 to 0.5. The static friction of the straddle-type monorail-cum-road long-span cable-stayed bridge support can resist the trains’ braking force, and the parameters of the viscous damper can be selected regardless of train braking. A suitably large value of velocity exponent α may be required to increase the working velocity of the viscous damper to reduce the damper’s participation in the process of the train crossing the bridge.

The metadynamic recrystallization behavior of Cr-Co-Ni-Mo ultrahigh-strength martensitic stainless steel was studied in a double-pass isothermal compression test, and a metadynamic recrystallization kinetics model for softening was established. The results showed that the metadynamic recrystallization softening rate of the steel not only depended on the deformation temperature and strain rate but was also related to the dynamic precipitation and the local shear bands in the steel. When the deformation temperature was below 1050 °C, the dynamically precipitated M _6 C carbides pinned the grain boundaries and hindered metadynamic recrystallization. When the steel was deformed at a deformation temperature of 1000∼1050 °C and a strain rate of 1.0∼5.0 s ^−1 , a large number of local shear bands were generated. The local shear bands increased the number of nucleation sites for dynamic recrystallization and enhanced the softening rate of metadynamic recrystallization.

The static recrystallization (SRX) behavior of an ultrahigh-strength stainless steel (UHSSS) was investigated via double-hit isothermal compression tests. The results revealed that the kinetics of static recrystallization and the corresponding microstructural evolution were not only prominently influenced by the deformation parameters and initial microstructures but also suppressed due to the precipitation of M _6 C carbides below 1050 °C, which sufficiently pinned the boundaries. Numerical models for predicting the recrystallized fraction and grain sizes were proposed based on the experimental results. The kinetics model could predict the process of SRX in the deformation temperature range from 1050 °C to 1150 °C well, whereas there were some deviations between the predictions and experimental results due to the interaction of the M _6 C carbides and SRX when the deformation temperature was below 1050 °C.

Constructing regular micro-structures with certain geometric characteristics on the surface of the polymer part can obtain some specific functions. Micro ultrasonic powder molding (micro-UPM) is an efficient processing technique for the fabrication of well-filled micro-structured Polypropylene (PP) parts. The micro-structure array on the surface of the core insert was obtained by low speed wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM-LS). PP polymer surfaces with micro-structured patterns were successfully replicated from the core insert surface after micro-UPM. By studying the detailed topography characterizations of micro-structured PP parts, the effects of processing parameters (ultrasonic energy, welding pressure and holding time) on the micro-structured filling show that when PP polymer was formed under the conditions of 1000 J, 115 kPa and 8 s during micro-UPM, well-filled micro-structured parts can be obtained. Besides, without low surface energy coating modification, the water contact angles (WCAs) of micro-structured PP parts increased from 85.3° to 146.8°, indicating that the wettability of the surface can be changed by replicating the micro-structure on PP parts after micro-UPM.

DNA methylation is an important mechanism of epigenetic modification. Methylation changes during stress responses and developmental processes have been well studied; however, their role in plant adaptation to the day/night cycle is poorly understood. In this study, we detected global methylation patterns in leaves of the black poplar Populus nigra 'N46' at 8:00 and 24:00 by methylated DNA immunoprecipitation sequencing (MeDIP-seq). We found 10,027 and 10,242 genes to be methylated in the 8:00 and 24:00 samples, respectively. The methylated genes appeared to be involved in multiple biological processes, molecular functions, and cellular components, suggesting important roles for DNA methylation in poplar cells. Comparing the 8:00 and 24:00 samples, only 440 differentially methylated regions (DMRs) overlapped with genic regions, including 193 hyper- and 247 hypo-methylated DMRs, and may influence the expression of 137 downstream genes. Most hyper-methylated genes were associated with transferase activity, kinase activity, and phosphotransferase activity, whereas most hypo-methylated genes were associated with protein binding, ATP binding, and adenyl ribonucleotide binding, suggesting that different biological processes were activated during the day and night. Our results indicated that methylated genes were prevalent in the poplar genome, but that only a few of these participated in diurnal gene expression regulation.

AIM: To compare the effect of iris location guided sub-bowman keratomileusis(SBK)and iris location guided thin-flap laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK)for extremely high myopia treatment. METHODS:Iris location guided SBK was performed in 64 eyes of 32 patients with extremely high myopia and 42 eyes of 84 patients were received iris location guided thin-flap LASIK. All the patients' spherical refraction was -9.00D～-11.00D and the age was 22～35 years. Uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA), refraction, split-lamp examination, topography examination, central corneal stroma thickness, thickness of central corneal flap, thickness of peripheral corneal flap and complication was examined in these patients and follow-up was 6mo. RESULTS: At 6mo after surgery, 93.8% of the patients received iris location guided SBK and 92.9% received iris location guided thin-flap LASIK achieved a UCVA better than 20/20. There was no significant difference between two groups. Refraction between ±0.5D was 89.1% of SBK group and 84.5% of LASIK group. There was no significant difference. Corneal rear surface height of SBK was 0.046±0.012μm and LASIK was 0.056±0.015μm. Thickness of corneal stroma after surgery was 328.6±14.7μm in SBK group, while it was 301.2±21.6μm in LASIK group and there was significant difference(t=3.127, P=0.001). BUT was 11.38±4.02s and 17.81±4.89s in SBK and LASIK group respectively, with no statistical difference. To assess if the maternal pre-pregnancy weight status (MPWS) alters the association of early infant feeding pattern (at one and third months) with infant body mass index (BMI) in the first two years of life.A cohort of 2,220 neonates were recruited in a community-based study conducted in China. Body weight and length were measured at birth, at age one and two, with BMI calculated accordingly. The BMI z-scores (BMI-Z) were computed according to the World Health Organization Growth Standard (2006).
