Abstract Background Astroviruses (AstVs) are single-stranded RNA viruses that have been detected in a wide range of mammals and birds. They are associated with numerous interspecies transmissions and viral recombination events, posing a threat to human and animal health. Methods We collected 1,333 samples from wild animals, including bats, rodents, wild boars, and birds, from various states and cities in the Yunnan Province, China, between 2020 and 2023 to investigate the presence of AstVs. AstVs were detected using a polymerase chain reaction targeting the RdRp gene. Finally, the Molecular Evolutionary Genetics Analysis software was used to construct the phylogenetic tree. Results The overall positivity rate for AstVs was 7.12% in four species, indicating their widespread occurrence in the region. High genetic diversity among AstVs was observed in different animal species, suggesting the potential for interspecies transmission, particularly among rodents and birds. Additionally, we identified a novel AstV strain and, for the first time, provided information on the presence of bastroviruses in Yunnan, China. Conclusions The widespread distribution and high genetic diversity of AstVs, along with the observed potential for interspecies transmission, highlight the importance of further investigation and surveillance in the region. The findings emphasize the need for increased attention to AstVs and their potential impact on human and animal health in Yunnan and other regions.

Objective: To develop deep learning methods with high accuracy for segmenting irregular corneas and detecting the tear fluid reservoir (TFR) boundary under the scleral lens. Additionally, this study aims to provide a publicly available cornea with scleral lens OCT dataset, including manually labeled layer masks for training and validation of segmentation algorithms. This study introduces ScLNet, a dataset comprising cornea with Scleral Lens (ScL) optical coherence tomography (OCT) images with layer annotations, and a multi-task network designed to achieve rapid, accurate, automated segmentation of scleral lens with regular and irregular corneas. Methods: We created a dataset comprising 31,360 OCT images with scleral lens annotations. The network architecture includes an encoder with multi-scale input and a context coding layer, along with two decoders for specific tasks. The primary task focuses on predicting ScL, TFR, and cornea regions, while the auxiliary task, aimed at predicting the boundaries of ScL, TFR, and cornea, enhances feature extraction for the main task. Segmentation results were compared with state-of-the-art methods and evaluated using Dice similarity coefficient (DSC), intersection over union (IoU), Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC), Precision, and Hausdorff distance (HD). Results: ScLNet achieves 98.22 % DSC, 96.50 % IoU, 98.13 % MCC, 98.35 % Precision, and 3.6840 HD (in pixels) in segmenting ScL; 97.78 % DSC, 95.66 % IoU, 97.71 % MCC, 97.70 % Precision, and 3.7838 HD (in pixels) in segmenting TFR; and 99.22 % DSC, 98.45 % IoU, 99.15 % MCC, 99.14 % Precision, and 3.5355 HD (in pixels) in segmenting cornea. The layer interfaces recognized by ScLNet closely align with expert annotations, as evidenced by high IoU scores. Boundary metrics further confirm its effectiveness. Conclusion: We constructed a dataset of corneal OCT images with ScL wearing, which includes regular and irregular cornea patients. The proposed ScLNet achieves high accuracy in extracting ScL, TFR, and corneal layer masks and boundaries from OCT images of the dataset.

The coordination between actin and microtubule network is crucial, yet this remains a challenging problem to dissect and our understanding of the underlying mechanisms remains limited. In this study, we used travelling waves in the cell cortex to characterize the collective dynamics of cytoskeletal networks. Our findings show that Cdc42 and F-BAR-dependent actin waves in mast cells are mainly driven by formin-mediated actin polymerization, with the microtubule-binding formin FH2 domain-containing protein 1 (FHDC1) as an early regulator. Knocking down FHDC1 inhibits actin wave formation, and this inhibition require FHDC1’s interaction with both microtubule and actin. The phase of microtubule depolymerization coincides with the nucleation of actin waves and microtubule stabilization inhibit actin waves, leading us to propose that microtubule shrinking and the concurrent release of FHDC1 locally regulate actin nucleation. Lastly, we show that FHDC1 is crucial for multiple cellular processes such as cell division and migration. Our data provided molecular insights into the nucleation mechanisms of actin waves and uncover an antagonistic interplay between microtubule and actin polymerization in their collective dynamics.

BackgroundBladder cancer (BCa) is a malignant tumor that usually forms cancer cells in the inner lining of the bladder. Hundreds of thousands of people worldwide have BCa diagnosed each year. The purpose of this study was to construct a prognostic model by differential expression of genes between muscular and non-muscular invasive BCa, and to investigate the prognosis of BCa patients.MethodsThe data of BCa patients was sourced from the GEO and TCGA database. Single-cell sequencing data was obtained from three patients in the GSE135337 database, and microarray data for verification was obtained from GSE32894. Univariate, Lasso and multivariate cox regression analyses were performed to construct the prognostic model. The prognostic features, immune features and drug sensitivity of the model were further evaluated. Single-cell data and microarray data were used to validate the differential expression of model genes between muscle-invasive and non-muscle-invasive BCa. The invasion and migration of BCa cells were evaluated using the transwell assay and wound-healing assay. The cell proliferation capacity was simultaneously evaluated using Colony formation experiments. The protein expression of the specific gene was detected by western blot analysis.ResultsWe identified 183 differentially expressed muscle-invasive-related differential genes (MIRDGs), among which four were selected to establish a prognostic model. Based on our signature, patients in different groups displayed varying levels of immune infiltration and immunotherapy profiles. Single-cell sequencing data and microarray data confirmed that four invasion-related genes were expressed at higher levels in muscle-invasive BCa. Given the critical role of S100A9 in the progression of BCa, we performed further analysis. The results showed that protein expression of S100A9 was high in muscle-invasive BCa, and S100A9 knockdown could inhibit the proliferation, migration and invasion of BCa.ConclusionThese findings demonstrated that the prognostic model for BCa patients was reasonably accurate and valid, and it may prove to be of considerable value for the treatment and prognosis of BCa patients in the future. S100A9 may become a better prognostic marker and potential therapeutic target to further guide clinical treatment decisions.

BackgroundTo determine the association between tumor location and both clinicopathological characteristics and the survival of patients with M0 squamous cell carcinoma of the penis (SCCP).MethodsData of 455 patients diagnosed with M0 SCCP between 1975 and 2018 were collected from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database of the United States National Cancer Institute. The effects of tumor location on overall survival (OS) and penile carcinoma-specific survival (PCSS) were analyzed using the Kaplan–Meier method. The Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to determine the impact of tumor location on PCSS.ResultsSCCP was more likely to occur in the prepuce or glans (90%). Although no significant difference was observed between the OS of patients with M0 SCCP in the prepuce or glans and those with M0 SCCP in the body of the penis (p = 0.307), the former had better PCSS (p = 0.024). Moreover, M0 SCCP in the prepuce or glans was also significantly associated with better PCSS in patients with advanced age (age ≥ 60 years, p = 0.011), other ethnicities (p = 0.003), T2–T4 stage (p = 0.036), larger tumors (≥3 cm, p = 0.001), no regional lymph nodes removed (p = 0.044), and radical surgery (p = 0.027). Multivariate analysis confirmed that tumor location is an independent prognostic factor for patients with M0 SCCP [hazard ratio (HR) 1.881, p = 0.026].ConclusionsTumor location is an independent prognostic factor for patients with M0 SCCP, and tumors in the prepuce or glans portend better PCSS.

Abstract Background To compare the clinicopathologic parameters and oncologic outcomes between type 1 and type 2 papillary renal cell carcinoma (PRCC). Methods This study was approved by the review board (NO.XYFY2019-KL032–01). Between 2007 and 2018, 52 consecutive patients who underwent surgery at a single tertiary referral hospital were included. Clinicopathologic and survival data were collected and entered into a database. The Kaplan-Meier method, and univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression analyses were performed to estimate progression-free survival (PFS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS). Results Of the 52 patients, 24 (46.2%) were diagnosed with type 1 PRCC, and 28 (53.8%) had type 2 PRCC. The mean tumor size was 4.8 ± 2.5 cm. The two subtypes displayed different morphological features: foamy macrophages were more common in type 1 PRCC, while eosinophils and microvascular angiolymphatic invasion were more frequent in type 2 PRCC. Type 2 cases showed higher tumor stage and World Health Organization/International Society of Urological Pathology (WHO/ISUP) grade than type 1 cases (T3-T4: 43% vs 17%, P = 0.041; G3-G4: 43% vs 8%, P = 0.005). In univariate analysis, type 2 PRCC had a lower probability for PFS and CSS than patients with type 1 PRCC (P = 0.016, P = 0.049, log-rank test, respectively). In multivariate analysis, only WHO/ISUP grade (HR 11.289, 95% CI 2.303–55.329, P = 0.003) and tumor size (HR 1.244, 95% CI 1.034–1.496, P = 0.021) were significantly associated with PFS. Conclusions PRCC subtype displayed different morphological features: foamy macrophages, eosinophils and microvascular angiolymphatic invasion are pathologic features that may aid in the distinction of the two subtypes. Histologic subtype of PRCC is not an independent prognostic factor and only WHO/ISUP grade and tumor size were independent predictors for PFS.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the uptake mechanism of spinosin (SPI) by the monocarboxylic acid transporters (MCTs) in Caco-2 cells. Methods: The Caco-2 cells were pretreated with various monocarboxylic acids, and the uptake of spinosin from Caco-2 cells was measured by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Key findings: Preloading of various monocarboxylic acids enhanced the uptake of SPI, especially salicylic acid (a substrate of MCTs) had a 23.4 times increase in SPI uptake, indicating that the monocarboxylic acid transporters had an efflux effect on SPI uptake and salicylic acid had a strong inhibition on SPI efflux in Caco-2 cells. At the same time, the uptake of SPI through Caco-2 cells was Na+- and temperature-dependent, pretreatment without Na+ significantly increased the uptake of SPI by 1.85 times and incubated at low temperature (4 °C) SPI uptake increased 20% than that of 37 °C. Furthermore, SPI was transported mainly via a carrier-mediated transport: [Vmax = 5.364 μg/mg protein, Km = 657.0 μg/mL]. Conclusion: The uptake of spinosin (SPI) in Caco-2 cells was mainly regulated by the monocarboxylic acid transporters along with Salicylic acid.

Objective Analyze the current situation, hotspots and development trends of sarcopenia animal model to provide research direction and basic information for sarcopenia animal model research.Methods English literature of research on animal models of sarcopenia was retrieved from the Web of Science core data (WOS) set from 1900-01-01 to 2022-12-31. Chinese literature related to animal models of sarcopenia was retrieved from CNKI database between 1915 and 2022. The bibliometric analysis software VOSviewer was used to explore the countries, orgonizations, authors, hotspots and frontier directions in these studies.Results A total of 2 819 articles on animal models of sarcopenia were retrieved from WOS core database. The first paper was published in 1995. The United States has the largest number of animal model studies of sarcopenia with 1 105 articles. The institution with the most published articles is the University of Florida in the United States, with 69 articles. The University of Hong Kong has the highest number of publications in China, with 20 articles. American author Van Remmen H, with 50 publications, is the author of the most articles. The journal with the largest number of articles published on animal models of sarcopenia is the American journal called FASEB Journal, with 196 articles. In total, 423 articles on animal models of sarcopenia were retrieved from the CNKI database. Author LI Zhuyi has published 19 articles, and is the author of the most articles in China. The keyword co-occurrence clustering analysis of WOS literature search found that the research focus on animal model of sarcopenia can be summarized as the correlation between sarcopenia and metabolism, cytology and regenerative medicine of sarcopenia animal models, the study of sarcopenia animal models in bone, muscle, nerve and exercise therapy. The retrieval results of CNKI database revealed that the most extensive research was about on the model of denervated sarcopenia, and researches on the effects of Chinese medicine on sarcopenia were also widely reported. Through reading the full articles or abstracts of the literature, the animal models of sacopenia mainly include natural aging model, genetic modification model, high-fat diet induction model, disuse model, hormone induction model and complex sarcopenia models of other diseases.Conclusion In recent years, the study on animal model of sarcopenia has become a hotspot at home and abroad.The bibliometric analysis provides a basis for the research of animal models of sarcopenia in terms of research direction, hotspots, model animal selection, animal model making, and domestic and international communication and cooperation.

Wheeled lifting robots have found widespread applications in various industrial and logistical environments. However, traditional robots are far from adequate in terms of visual perception capabilities. Additionally, their remote control methods suffer from inefficiencies, which tend to bring safety concerns. To address these issues, this work proposes an autonomous multi-sensor-enabled wheeled lifting robot system, i.e., AMSeWL-R, to facilitate remote autonomous operations. Specifically, AMSeWL-R integrates real-time simultaneous localization and mapping with object detection on a wheeled lifting robot. Additionally, a novel mobile-ROS interaction method is proposed to achieve real-time communication and control between a mobile device and a ROS host. Furthermore, a lightweight object detection algorithm based on YOLOv8, i.e., YOLOv8-R, is proposed to achieve faster detection. Experimental results validate the effectiveness of the AMSeWL-R system for accurately detecting objects and mapping its surroundings. Furthermore, TensorRT acceleration is employed during practical testing on a Jetson Nano to achieve real-time detection using the proposed YOLOv8-R, demonstrating its efficacy in real-world scenarios.

ABSTRACTThis study explores the role of a biostimulant derived from the seaweed Ascophyllum nodosum (AN) in mitigating salt stress in rice plants. The weekly (S+W) and biweekly (S+B) biostimulant treatments exhibited enhanced shoot and root biomass, maintained ionic balance, and increased pigment content (total chlorophyll increased by 26.35% and 31%, carotenoids by 11.90% and 16.67% in S+W and S+B treatments, respectively) compared to untreated salt-stressed plants (CS). Improved gas exchange parameters and PSII efficiency were observed in S+W and S+B treatments. AN-biostimulant treatments mitigated salt-induced oxidative stress by positively regulating the antioxidant defense system. Notably, a strong negative correlation was observed between antioxidants and oxidative markers. Furthermore, AN-biostimulant treatments induced key metabolites (organic acids, sugars, amino acids, flavonoids), emphasizing the integrated role of multiple pathways in enhancing salt tolerance in rice. These findings highlight the potential of AN biostimulants as eco-friendly tools for crop enhancement in challenging environments.

The rapid acceleration of societal change has subjected contemporary individuals to prolonged periods of diverse pressures, leading to substantial psychological strain, resulting in anxiety, depression, and compromised mental well-being. Within this context, the home has evolved into a vital refuge for modern individuals, offering both physical and psychological respite. Through experimental intervention, this study examines two distinct residential groups: those adhering to traditional housing and those residing in characteristic folk houses, specifically Gannan Hakka architecture. Analysing the psychological state of contemporary individuals and integrating Gannan Hakka architectural elements into folk house design through a psychologically informed approach, this research aims to enhance residents’ aesthetic experiences and alleviate psychological distress. The study involved 120 volunteers with varying psychological stress levels, categorised into characteristic and traditional folk house groups. Psychological assessments evaluated stress, self-efficacy, and quality of life. Findings reveal significantly improved psychological well-being, self-efficacy, and quality of life among the characteristic residential group, affirming the benefits of Gannan Hakka architecture integration. This research underscores the importance of addressing modern individuals’ environmental needs and proposes the integration of Gannan Hakka cultural elements into residential design to enhance well-being. Contribution: This study demonstrates the application of Hakka culture in contemporary housing profoundly influences residents’ lives, enabling both relaxation and a deeper cultural connection. This integration facilitates a comprehensive understanding of Hakka culture, promoting its preservation. Notably recognised for hospitality and diligence, Hakka culture enhances individuals’ appreciation of tradition, fostering physical and mental rejuvenation. These findings offer valuable insights for practical theology scholars and practitioners exploring the impact of religious aspects on modern residential design from a psychological perspective.

Electric vehicles (EVs) combined with low-carbon generator sets can significantly reduce CO2 emissions in the transportation sector. EVs can provide flexible auxiliary services for the grid through proper power dispatching, which benefits both EVs and the grid. This paper discusses the optimal charging and discharging plan for EVs for the purpose of a distribution system operator (DSO) while obtaining the optimal day-ahead bidding strategy for DSO in the spot market. Considering the different charging demands of EV users, two contract models of vehicle-to-grid (V2G) and smart charging services are introduced. Then, K-means clustering is adopted to manage the spatiotemporal uncertainties of EVs, in order to maximize the expected marginal revenue of DSO. Then the optimization model is proposed by considering the real conditions campus grid in Shenzhen and the electricity market in Guangdong province. The result shows that the DSO could obtain the marginal revenue not only by the optimal day-ahead bidding strategy but also by scheduling EVs’ charging and discharging. In addition, EV users could reduce the charging cost by charging their EVs during low electricity price periods and get extra revenue by exporting power to the utility grid during high price periods.

Since the number of electric vehicles (EVs) grows rapidly, the EVs charging schedule problem has attracted more attention than before. On account of continuous and random power requirement from EVs, the burden of grid will increase and thus jeopardize the stability of grid. In this paper, an accessible close-loop vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging mechanism with interaction of energy and information under charging station is proposed to cope with EVs charging schedule problem. And the non-cooperative game model is adopted to analyze the V2V charging mechanism. Furthermore, the optimal strategy algorithm is introduced to get the Nash Equilibrium (NE) of the game. Simulation with 10 EVs illustrates that V2V charging with non-cooperative game can decrease the load variance (0.0701) compared to V2V charging without the game (1.7248). And the convergence of the optimal strategy algorithm can reach in less than 20 iterations.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the Chinese herbal formula San-Huang Gu-Ben Zhi-Ke (SHGBZK) as a treatment for patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) diagnosed with lung-spleen Qi deficiency.Method: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was designed. 98 adults aged between 40 and 80 years with stable COPD diagnosed with lung-spleen Qi deficiency were included. All participants received basic treatment for COPD. Patients in the experimental group took SHGBZK, while the control group took placebo. The primary outcome was the frequency of acute exacerbation. The secondary outcomes were lung function, symptom score, exercise capacity and quality of life.Results: Of 98 patients who underwent randomization, 50 patients in the SHGBZK group and 48 in the placebo group were included in the full analysis set. After 24-week therapy and 28-week follow-up, patients in treatment group had significant improvements in symptom, exercise capacity and quality of life. After Subgroup analysis, the frequency of acute exacerbation in patients with a COPD Assessment Test (CAT) score of at least 10 or a modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) score of at least 2 was significantly lower in the SHGBZK group than in the placebo group. Lung function in patients with frequent exacerbation was significantly higher in the SHGBZK group than in the placebo group. The incidence of adverse events was generally similar in the two groups.Conclusion: SHGBZK had beneficial effects on symptom, exercise capacity and quality of life in stable COPD patients. SHGBZK also had the potential to reduce the frequency of exacerbation and improve lung function in specific groups of COPD patients.Clinical Trial Registration:https://www.chictr.org.cn/showproj.html?proj=26933, identifier ChiCTR1800016349

BackgroundThere is still a large demand for effective treatments to delay disease deterioration in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Typical symptoms of ALS are considered “flaccidity syndrome” in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Huoling Shengji Granule (HLSJ) is a TCM formula used to treat flaccidity syndrome. Results of preclinical tests and a previous clinical study support HLSJ as a novel drug for ALS patients. This trial proposed to examine whether a 48-week course of HLSJ is effective and safe for ALS patients diagnosed with the Chinese medicine syndrome of spleen qi insufficiency and kidney yang deficiency.Methods and analysisIn this phase II, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, riluzole parallel-controlled, superiority-design study, eligible participants had the equal opportunity to be assigned to receive either HLSJ or riluzole randomly. Eleven specialized ALS centers in Mainland China will recruit 144 patients for this trial. The primary and secondary outcomes included the change in the ALSFRS-R score and the Rasch-Built Overall Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Disability Scale (ROADS) from baseline to Week 48.DiscussionHere, we endeavored to evaluate TCM for ALS using a standard evidence-based approach for the first time. In addition, the ROADS, a self-report linear-weighted questionnaire, was selected as a secondary outcome measure. The investigation of conductive silver pastes and inks has witnessed extensive research within the domain of printed electronics in recent years, primarily owing to the exceptional electrical conductivity and steadfastness intrinsic to silver. This paper introduces an approach for the fabrication of stable, cost-effective, and low-resistance conductive silver paste tailored for flexible printed circuits. This method facilitates the solidification of the conductive silver paste into a highly conductive silver film at a curing temperature of 250 °C. In the process of preparing the conductive silver paste, Ag flakes is subject to modification through the incorporation of Ag NPs, which are subsequently sintered at a low temperature curing setting. The sintering of Ag NPs serves to establish connections between adjacent particles of Ag flakes within the paste, thereby enhancing the conductivity and flexibility of the resulting conductive printed silver film. When the ratio of Ag NPs to Ag flakes is maintained at 10:90, the volume resistivity of the Ag NPs-modified film registers at 2.7 × 10 ^−5 Ω.cm. This demonstrates a substantial 53.45% reduction in the volume resistivity of the conductive printed silver film modified with Ag NPs, compared to its Ag NPs-absent counterpart. Post 200 cyclic bending tests, it becomes evident that the resistance change rate in the Ag NPs-modified conductive printed silver film is a mere 12.5%, whereas the Ag NPs-modified silver film lacking Ag NPs displays a resistance change rate of 21.5%. This discrepancy underscores the capacity of Ag NPs-modified Ag flakes to fortify the bending resistance of the conductive printed silver film. Comprehensive data analysis substantiates that the improvements in electrical conductivity and bending resistance can be attributed to the superior bridging facilitated by the sintering process on the surface of the Ag NPs-modified Ag flakes.

Background: Ortner's syndrome, also known as cardio-vocal cord syndrome, is characterized by vocal cord paralysis secondary to compression of recurrent laryngeal nerve from a cardiopulmonary lesion. Clinicians may fail to diagnose or misdiagnose Ortner's syndrome because of its low incidence and complex pathogenesis. Here, we report a patient with an aortic arch aneurysm presenting solely with vocal cord paralysis and review existing literature to better understand Ortner's syndrome pathogenesis. Case presentation: On August 23, 2021, a 74-year-old man with cholecystolithiasis and acute cholecystitis was admitted to the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, at the First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University. During medical history collection and physical examination, the patient's voice was unexpectedly hoarse. The patient then underwent laryngoscopy, computed tomography (CT) scanning of the chest, and enhanced CT scanning. Three-dimensional reconstruction of the thoracic aorta revealed an unstable aneurysm at the anterior of the aortic arch. The left recurrent laryngeal nerve was compressed by the aneurysm, leading to left vocal cord paralysis and voice hoarseness. Discussion: Hoarseness caused by vocal cord paralysis suggests damage to the recurrent laryngeal nerve. Examination based on the anatomical path, from the base of the skull to the diaphragm, especially from the vagus nerve origin area to the end of the recurrent laryngeal nerve, is helpful for early diagnosis of neck and thoracic cavity disorders, which could prevent misdiagnosis of acute and critical diseases.

Abstract The fact that most of the patients with preoperative DVTs after calcaneal fractures are asymptomatic brought challenges to the early intervention, and periodic imaging examinations aggravated the financial burden of the patients in preoperative detumescence period. This study aimed to use routine clinical data, obtained from the database of Surgical Site Infection in Orthopaedic Surgery (SSIOS), to construct and validate a nomogram for predicting preoperative DVT risk in patients with isolated calcaneal fracture. The nomogram was established base on 7 predictors independently related to preoperative DVT. The performance of the model was tested by concordance index (C-index), receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA), and the results were furtherly verified internally and externally. 952 patients were enrolled in this study, of which 711 were used as the training set. The AUC of the nomogram was 0.870 in the training set and 0.905 in the validation set. After internal verification, the modified C-index was 0.846. Calibration curve and decision curve analysis both performed well in the training set and validation set. In short, we constructed a nomogram for predicting preoperative DVT risk in patients with isolated calcaneal fracture and verified its accuracy and clinical practicability.

The pressure drop for air-water two-phase flow in pipeline systems with S-shaped and vertical risers at various inclinations (−1°, −2°, −4°, −5° and −7° from horizontal) was predicted using an artificial neural network (ANN). In the designing of the ANN model, the superficial velocity of gas and liquid as well as the inclination of the downcomer were used as input variables, while pressure drop values of two-phase flows were determined as the output. An ANN network with a hidden layer containing 14 neurons was developed based on a trial-and-error method. A sigmoid function was chosen as the transfer function for the hidden layer, while a linear function was used in the output layer. The Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm was used for the training of the model. A total of 415 experimental data points reported in the literature were collected and used for the creation of the networks. The statistical results showed that the proposed network is capable of calculating the experimental pressure drop dataset with low average absolute percent error (AAPE) of 3.35% and high determination coefficient (R2) of 0.995.

The active distribution network management (ADNM) equipped by active distribution networks (ADNs) can enhance the resilience of the network after failure. This paper proposes a novel comprehensive post-event network restoration model and its chance-constrained variant for ADN that considering the dispatch of distributed generation (DG), energy storage system (ESS), demand response (DR), static var compensator (SVC), and network reconfiguration to fully investigate the potential of the ADNM in network restoration. In this paper, the line failure, bus failure, and the uncertainty from load and DG output forecast error are considered. Specifically, the line and bus failures are modeled by an enhanced fictitious network technique, while the uncertainty of load and DG output forecast is modeled by the chance-constrained optimization. The power flow is described by a linearized DistFlow model, and thus the deterministic and chance-constrained network restoration models are programmed by the mixed-integer linear programming (MILP). The proposed deterministic and chance-constrained restoration models are tested on the IEEE 33 bus system. Results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed deterministic and chance-constrained network restoration model.

Magnetoelectric composites have attracted much attention due to their strong magnetoelectric coupling effect. In this paper, PbTiO3-NiFe2O4 (PTO/NFO) composite ceramics were prepared by sol-gel method. Effect of sintering temperatures on the structure, dielectric properties and multiferroic properties were studied. XRD results show that PTO/NFO ceramics have been successfully prepared. When the sintering temperature is 1050 °C, the secondary phase PbO2 exists in the ceramics. SEM results show that there were two kinds of grains with different sizes. EDS analysis suggested that the large particles are NFO and the small particles are PTO. The sintering temperature has a great influence on the dielectric and ferroelectric properties of the prepared ceramics. When the sintering temperature is 950 °C, the ceramics show the maximum dielectric constant at low frequency. When the sintering temperature is 1150 °C, the maximum residual polarization is 1.236 μC/cm2. The conductive mechanism of ceramics is dominated by Space Charge – Limited Conduction. The remanent magnetization and coercive field decrease with increasing the sintering temperature. The magnetoelectric coupling coefficient shows that ceramics have strong magnetoelectric coupling performance (5.7 V/cm·Oe).

This paper proposes a design method for a robust fractional-order PID (FOPID) controller for time-delay systems. A new Bode's ideal transfer function is introduced to tolerance the time-delay in loop. Robust stability is analyzed for the Bode's model in terms of gain and phase margins to help the parameter tuning. To simplify FOPID design from solving nonlinear equations, five unknown parameters are reduced to one in the Bode shaping by data fitting between a parametric model and the real plant. Then, the problem is simply solved by one-dimensional searching. Furthermore, the proposed FOPID controller design is extended to multi-input and multi-output (MIMO) systems by using disturbance observer (DOB). Finally, simulation results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

A high-temperature conductive silver slurry containing lead-free ZnO-B _2 O _3 -SiO _2 glass for metallization of ceramic MgTiO _3 substrate has been prepared. The ZnO-B _2 O _3 -SiO _2 glass was obtained by high-temperature melting and cold extraction with a transition temperature (T _g ) of 579 °C and thermal stability (∆T) of 105 °C as an inorganic bonding phase of high-temperature conductive silver paste. Then, silver paste with different glass powder content was sintered on ceramic MgTiO _3 substrate between 730 °C and 930 °C in increments of 50 °C. Characterization of the prepared materials revealed that their resistivity increases with the increase in glass powder content and decreases with the increase in sintering temperature. Sintering temperature and glass content have significant effects on the resistivity and adhesion of the thick silver film. When the silver paste with a glass content of 1.1 wt% was sintered at 830 °C for 10 min, the resulting thick silver film had a low resistivity of 1.81 μ Ω·cm (1.65 μ Ω·cm for silver) and a good adhesive strength of 39.4 N mm ^−2 . During the sintering process, the glass material melts and wets the silver powder, which promotes the sintering of the silver powder to form a dense network structure and improves the electrical conductivity of the silver film. In addition, the formation of ZnTiO _3 by chemical reactions between the glass and the substrate was observed, which dramatically improved the bonding strength of the silver film. Therefore, lead-free silver paste containing ZnO-B _2 O _3 -SiO _2 glass powder and MgTiO _3 ceramics has broad development prospects in ceramic filters.

Abstract Background Due to the large number of patients, high mortality rate as well as high social costs and economic burden, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) has become one of the most important health problems around the world, which has attracted people’s attention. Currently, Chinese herbs have been widely used as alternative medicine (CAM) for COPD patients. The Chinese herbal formula San-Huang Gu-Ben Zhi-Ke (SHGBZK) has shown good clinical efficacy in COPD in preclinical studies. Animal experiments have shown that it has mucosal immune barrier function and can maintain airway wall integrity, reduce inflammatory cell infiltration, promote inflammatory damage repair, and relieve narrow airway conditions. Methods/design This study is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. A total of 100 patients with stable COPD diagnosed with deficiency of lung qi and spleen qi will be recruited and randomly assigned to one of two treatment groups: SHGBZK treatment, N = 50; placebo treatment, N = 50. The two groups will receive basic treatment for COPD according to the 2017 GOLD Guidelines for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Patients will stick to the treatment they used to take as much as possible, and will be given present general treatment when acute exacerbation of COPD occurs during the study. Both groups will receive a 24-week intervention and patient status will be assessed at 24 weeks and then 28 weeks after treatment. After the 24-week treatment, patients will be followed up for another 28 weeks. Outcome measures, including the frequency and duration of acute exacerbation, lung function, traditional Chinese medicine symptom score, exercise capacity, and quality of life will be assessed. Discussion It is hypothesized that SHGBZK will have beneficial effects in reducing the frequency and duration of acute exacerbations, improving the exercise capacity function of patients with stable COPD diagnosed with a deficiencies in lung qi and spleen qi. This study may establish a new treatment method for COPD patients, differentiating it from other drugs in clinical use used for similar clinical indications. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) linc00152 has been recognized as an oncogenic lncRNA in various cancers. This study attempts to investigate the roles of linc00152 in the metastasis-related traits of infantile hemangioma (IH). Linc00152 was overexpressed in the proliferating-phase hemangioma tissues when compared with that in involuting-phase. Downregulation of linc00152 strikingly suppressed the cell viability, migration and invasion of hemangioma cells. Furthermore, silence of linc00152 repressed the growth and lung metastasis of hemangioma cell in vivo. Subsequent analysis revealed that linc00152 bound with miR-139-5p and linc00152 expression was inversely correlated with the level of miR-139-5p in IH. Same effects of miR-139-5p transfection on HemECs cells were observed as downregulation of linc00152. Moreover, tumor protein D52 (TPD52) was confirmed to be the target of miR-139-5p. Besides, the anti-tumor effect of linc00152 silence on hemangioma cell was reversed by rexpression of TPD52. This study demonstrates that downregulatuon of linc00152 restrains the aggressiveness of hemangioma cell in vitro and in vivo via interacting with miR-139-5p and further modulates the level of TPD52.

Cryptosporidium spp. are opportunistic pathogens that cause diarrhea in a variety of animal hosts. Although they have been reported in many animals, no information has been published on the occurrence of Cryptosporidium spp. in red-bellied tree squirrels (Callosciurus erythraeus). A total of 287 fecal specimens were collected from Sichuan province in China; the prevalence of Cryptosporidium spp., measured by nested-PCR amplification of the partial small-subunit (SSU) rRNA gene, was 1.4% (4/287). Three different Cryptosporidium species or genotypes were identified: Cryptosporidium parvum (n = 1), Cryptosporidium wrairi (n = 1), and Cryptosporidium rat genotype II (n = 2). The present study is the first report of Cryptosporidium infection in red-bellied tree squirrels in China. Although there is a relatively low occurrence of Cryptosporidium, the presence of C. parvum and C. wrairi, which were previously reported in humans, indicates that red-bellied tree squirrels may be a source of zoonotic cryptosporidiosis in China.

Enterocytozoon bieneusi is a common intestinal pathogen in a variety of animals. While E. bieneusi genotypes have become better-known, there are few reports on its prevalence in the Tibetan pig. This study investigated the prevalence, genetic diversity, and zoonotic potential of E. bieneusi in the Tibetan pig in southwestern China. Tibetan pig feces (266 samples) were collected from three sites in the southwest of China. Feces were subjected to PCR amplification of the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region. Enterocytozoon bieneusi was detected in 83 (31.2%) of Tibetan pigs from the three different sites, with 25.4% in Kangding, 56% in Yaan, and 26.7% in Qionglai. Prevalence varies according to age group, from 24.4% (age 0–1 years) to 44.4% (age 1–2 years). Four genotypes of E. bieneusi were identified: two known genotypes EbpC (n = 58), Henan-IV (n = 24) and two novel genotypes, SCT01 and SCT02 (one of each). We compare our results with a compilation of published results on the host range and geographical distribution of E. bieneusi genotypes in China. Phylogenetic analysis showed these four genotypes clustered to group 1 with zoonotic potential. Multilocus sequence typing (MLST) analysis of three microsatellites (MS1, MS3, MS7) and one minisatellite (MS4) was successful in 47, 48, 23 and 47 positive specimens and identified 10, 10, 5 and 5 genotypes at four loci, respectively. This study indicates the potential danger of E. bieneusi to Tibetan pigs in southwestern China, and offers basic advice for preventing and controlling infections.

Abstract Background Breast cancer is the most common cancer and the leading cause of cancer mortality in women worldwide. Hypoxia is an important factor involved in the progression of solid tumors and has been associated with various indicators of tumor metabolism, angiogenesis and metastasis. But little is known about the contribution of Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-2a (HIF-2a) to the drug resistance and the clinicopathological characteristics in breast cancer. Methods Immunohistochemistry was employed on the tissue microarray paraffin sections of surgically removed samples from 196 invasive breast cancer patients with clinicopathological data. The correlations between the expression of HIF-2a and ABCG2 as well as other patients' clinicopathological data were investigated. Results The results showed that HIF-2a was expressed in different intensities and distributions in the tumor cells of the breast invasive ductal carcinoma. A positive staining for HIF-2a was defined as a brown staining observed mainly in the nucleus. A statistically significant correlation was demonstrated between HIF-2a expression and ABCG2 expression (p = 0.001), histology-grade (p = 0.029), and Ki67 (p = 0. 043) respectively. Conclusion HIF-2a was correlated with ABCG2 expression, histology-grade and Ki67 expression in breast invasive ductal carcinoma. HIF-2a could regulate ABCG2 in breast cancer cells, and could be a novel potential bio-marker to predict chemotherapy effectiveness. It has been demonstrated that endogenous ABCG2 expression in certain cancers is a possible reflection of the differentiated phenotype of the cell of origin and likely contributes to intrinsic drug resistance. But little is known about the contribution of ABCG2 to the drug resistance and the clinicopathological characteristics in breast cancer. In the present study, we investigated the expression of ABCG2 and the correlations between ABCG2 expression and patients' clinicopathological and biological characteristics. Methods Immunohistochemistry was employed on the tissue microarray paraffin sections of surgically removed samples from 196 breast cancer patients with clinicopathological data. Results The results showed that ABCG2 was expressed in different intensities and distributions in the tumor cells of the breast invasive ductal carcinoma. Conclusion ABCG2 correlated with Her-2 expression, lymph node metastasis and clinical stage in breast invasive ductal carcinoma. It could be a novel potential bio-marker which can predict biological behavior, clinical progression, prognosis and chemotherapy effectiveness.

Nine polyglutamine (polyQ) proteins have already been identified that are considered to be associated with the pathologies of neurodegenerative disorders called polyQ diseases, but whether these polyQ proteins mutually interact and synergize in proteinopathies remains to be elucidated. In this study, 4 polyQ-containing proteins, androgen receptor (AR), ataxin-7 (Atx7), huntingtin (Htt) and ataxin-3 (Atx3), are used as model molecules to investigate their heterologous coaggregation and consequent impact on cellular proteostasis. Our data indicate that the N-terminal fragment of polyQ-expanded (PQE) Atx7 or Htt can coaggregate with and sequester AR and Atx3 into insoluble aggregates or inclusions through their respective polyQ tracts. In vitro coprecipitation and NMR titration experiments suggest that this specific coaggregation depends on polyQ lengths and is probably mediated by polyQ-tract interactions. Luciferase reporter assay shows that these coaggregation and sequestration effects can deplete the cellular availability of AR and consequently impair its transactivation function. This study provides valid evidence supporting the viewpoint that coaggregation of polyQ proteins is mediated by polyQ-tract interactions and benefits our understanding of the molecular mechanism underlying the accumulation of different polyQ proteins in inclusions and their copathological causes of polyQ diseases.
