Aim: We aimed to investigate the impact of hiatal hernia (HH) on computed tomography (CT) findings, CT-severity scores (CT-SS), intensive care unit (ICU) admission, and mortality rates of patients with Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). Materials and Methods: Our study was a single-center retrospective analysis of COVID-19 patients admitted to our hospital between July and October 2021. One hundred-forty four of these patients had HH. We also randomly selected 144 COVID-19 patients without HH as the control group. So, the total study population included 288 patients aged ≥18 years. Aim:It has been reported that the increased neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is associated with a poor prognosis in Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) patients. We aimed to correlate three consecutive computed tomography severity score (CT-SS) values with simultaneous NLR and other laboratory parameters and investigate their temporal changes effects on the prognosis of COVID-19 patients.Methods:This single-center cross-sectional study included 99 (aged ≥18 years) COVID-19 patients hospitalized between March 1, 2021, and June 30, 2021. Demographic data, laboratory findings, and intensive care unit (ICU) admissions were obtained from electronic medical records. We divided patients into two groups: ICU and non-ICU patients A radiologist calculated three consecutive chest CT-SSs using a 25-point visually semiquantitative system. Spearman’s rho correlation was used to evaluate correlations between CT-SSs and laboratory parameters in ICU and non-ICU patients.Results:The study population included 99 patients with a mean age of 61.17±14.36 years. Significant associations were found between the third-highest values of CRP (p=0.005), D-dimer (p=0.007), lactate dehydrogenase (p=0.027), and ICU admission. While there was no statistical significance between the first and second CT-SS and ICU admissions, there was a significant relationship between the third CT-SS and ICU admissions (p=0.013). Moderate positive correlations between the first NLR and CT-SS (p=0.025, r=0.488) and the second NLR and CT-SS (p=0.001, r=0.650) were found in ICU patients.Conclusion:Our results demonstrate the importance of late follow-up chest CT and laboratory parameters for the prognosis and ICU admissions of COVID-19 patients.

Background: Obesity affects microvascular structures. The effect of obesity on the ocular vascular system can be evaluated by changes in the choroidal thickness (CT) and retrobulbar blood flow (RBF). Objectives: To evaluate the CT and RBF parameters in obese patients with various body mass index (BMI) values and compare these parameters with normal weight, healthy subjects. Design: A prospective study. Methods: The study included 102 eyes of 102 female patients. Patients were divided into three groups according to BMI as group 1 with a BMI of 18.5–24.99 ( n = 32), normal weight group; group 2 with a BMI of 30–34.99 ( n = 35), as obese class I; and group 3 with a BMI of 35–39.99 ( n = 35), as obese class II. The peak systolic velocity (PSV), end-diastolic velocity (EDV), resistive index, and pulsatility index values of the central retinal artery (CRA) and ophthalmic artery (OA) were evaluated with color Doppler ultrasonography. CT was measured at the subfoveal area and at 500-µm intervals nasal and temporal to the fovea up to a distance of 1500 µm by using the enhanced depth imaging technique of optical coherence tomography. Intraocular pressure (IOP) was measured with a Goldmann applanation tonometry. Results: There was a significant difference in IOP values within the groups with the highest values in group 3 (17.6 ± 2.1 mmHg) and the lowest in group 1 (12.4 ± 1.7 mmHg). IntroductionCoronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) disease first appeared in Wuhan, China in December 2019. Subsequently, the pandemic spread rapidly throughout the entire world. The number of people who died from COVID-19 is rising daily due to the growing number cases. This retrospective study aims to classify patients with hepatosteatosis (HS) who had COVID-19, depending on additional disease characteristics and to compare survival times and death rates.Material and methodsThe study included 433 individuals with COVID-19 and HS at Amasya University Sabuncuoglu Serefeddin Education and Research Hospital. Additional disease characteristics of patients with HS were analyzed using latent class analysis (LCA) and the patients were divided into two groups.ResultsThe study results indicate that the survival time of the first group, which was formed as a result of the LCA, was significantly lower than that of the second group (p = 0.038). The rate of diabetes, coronary artery disease, chronic rhythm disorder, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and chronic kidney disease was significantly higher in group 1 than in group 2 (respectively p < 0.001; p < 0.001; p < 0.001; p < 0.001; p = 0.015).DiscussionIn patients with HS, the presence of diabetes, coronary artery disease, chronic rhythm problem, COPD, and chronic renal disorders contributes to an increase in death rates due to COVID-19.

The aim of this single-center study is to assess the outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke underwent endovascular mechanical thrombectomy. The data and outcome of patients who were admitted due to acute ischemic stroke caused by a large vessel occlusion in the anterior or posterior circulation and treated with endovascular stent retriever mechanical thrombectomy between 2014 and 2018 were retrospectively evaluated. Recanalization success was assessed based on Thrombolysis in Cerebral Infarction (TICI) scores, and the TICI grades 2b and 3 were considered as successful. Functional outcomes of the patients were assessed by modified Rankin Scale (mRS) at the 3rd month follow up and a score of ≤2 points was considered as good clinical outcome. Successful recanalization was achieved in 34 patients (69%). At the 3rd month follow-up, 23 patients (46,9%) had mRS scores of ≤2 points. The overall mortality rate at the 90th day was %30 (n=15). After endovascular thrombectomy, symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage was seen in 9 patients, groin hematoma due to vascular access in 5 patients, which did not require additional treatment, and pseudoaneurysm in 3 patients. Stent retriever mechanical thrombectomy is an effective and safe procedure in patients admitted due to acute ischemic stroke caused by large vessel occlusion. [Med-Science 2020; 9(3.000): 700-3]

Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a tick-borne viral zoonosis. The incidence of zoonotic diseases has been shown to be affected by climatic factors. In this study, we evaluated patients endemic to the CCHF region and examined the relationship between the number of patients and climatic properties of the region where they lived. The study included 548 CCHF patients. Along with the patient demographic and clinical characteristics, we recorded temperature, humidity and precipitation in the places where they lived at the time of their admission to the hospital. In addition to temperature, humidity and precipitation at the time of patient admission, these values were assessed at one month and three months prior to admission. The relationship between the number of patients and the above-mentioned values was examined. Humidity at the time of and one month prior to hospital admission, and precipitation three months prior to hospital admission were found to affect the number of patients admitted to the hospital for CCHF. In conclusion, climate appeared to affect the number of CCHF patients. We believe that the number of patients presenting to the hospital with CCHF could be predicted by taking into account climatic properties of the places where CCHF has been recorded, along with under-taking necessary measures.

Background: Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a fatal zoonotic viral disease caused by infection with a tick-borne virus of the genus Nairovirus. In this study, we investigated the incidence of brucellosis in patients diag­nosed with CCHF. Methods: Overall, 169 patients hospitalized with an initial diagnosis of CCHF were included in 2011 in To­kat/ Turkey. Immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibodies and/or PCR results were used in the laboratory diagnosis of CCHF, while plate and standard tube agglutination (STA) tests were used to diagnose brucellosis. Results: Overall, 120 patients (79%) with positive PCR tests were diagnosed with CCHF. Five (4.16%) were also diag­nosed with brucellosis based on the positive plate and STA test results. Four patients (2.36%) had negative CCHF PCR and positive STA test results. Conclusion: Brucellosis and CCHF can mimic each other and that all patients with CCHF or brucellosis should be screened for both conditions.

In the title compound, [Cu(C2H8N2)2](C12H6N2O4S2)·1.5H2O, there are two half-molecules of the cationic complex in the asymmetric unit. The Cu2+ ions lie on inversion centres and are octahedrally coordinated by two ethylenediamine (en) and two aqua ligands in a typical Jahn–Teller distorted environment with the water O atoms in the axial positions. Two 2-mercaptonicotinate units (mnic) are linked by a disulfide bridge. All the ethylenediamine N—H and O—H groups form intermolecular hydrogen bonds with acceptor O and N atoms, giving rise to a three-dimensional network. One of the uncoordinated water molecules has a site occupation factor of 0.5.
