Abstract Synthesis of valuable chemicals from CO2 electroreduction in acidic media is highly desirable to overcome carbonation. However, suppressing the hydrogen evolution reaction in such proton-rich environments remains a considerable challenge. The current study demonstrates the use of a hollow fiber silver penetration electrode with hierarchical micro/nanostructures to enable CO2 reduction to CO in strong acids via balanced coordination of CO2 and K+/H+ supplies. Correspondingly, a CO faradaic efficiency of 95% is achieved at a partial current density as high as 4.3 A/cm2 in a pH = 1 solution of H2SO4 and KCl, sustaining 200 h of continuous electrolysis at a current density of 2 A/cm2 with over 85% single-pass conversion of CO2. The experimental results and density functional theory calculations suggest that the controllable CO2 feeding induced by the hollow fiber penetration configuration primarily coordinate the CO2/H+ balance on Ag active sites in strong acids, favoring CO2 activation and key intermediate *COOH formation, resulting in enhanced CO formation.

Highlights We propose a broad range triboelectric sensor system employing elastic sponge and shielding layers, which can realize fast stiffness recognition within 1.0 s at a low cost. A novel algorithm is proposed for rapid stiffness identification by extracting signal characteristics, effectively reducing demand of computing resources. The proposed sensor system can identify the multi-layer stiffness structure of objects, enabling effective recognition of variable inclusions in soft objects with an accuracy of 99.7%.

Intelligent robot is the ultimate goal in the robotics field. Existing works leverage learning-based or optimization-based methods to accomplish human-defined tasks. However, the challenge of enabling robots to explore various environments autonomously remains unresolved. In this work, we propose a framework named GExp, which endows robots with the capability of exploring and learning autonomously without human intervention. To achieve this goal, we devise modules including self-exploration, knowledge-base-building, and close-loop feedback based on foundation models. Inspired by the way that infants interact with the world, GExp encourages robots to understand and explore the environment with a series of self-generated tasks. During the process of exploration, the robot will acquire skills from experiences that are useful in the future. GExp provides robots with the ability to solve complex tasks through self-exploration. GExp work is independent of prior interactive knowledge and human intervention, allowing it to adapt directly to different scenarios, unlike previous studies that provided in-context examples as few-shot learning. In addition, we propose a workflow of deploying the real-world robot system with self-learned skills as an embodied assistant. Project website: GExp.com.

Carbon dioxide electroreduction driven by renewable electricity into high‐value chemicals enables energy storage while contributing to climate change mitigation. Herein, a CuPd bimetallic catalyst is developed by electrodeposition for efficient CO2 electroreduction, achieving a C2+ Faradaic efficiency as high as 75.6% with a current density of −200 mA cm−2 at −1.15 V versus reversible hydrogen electrode. Upon incorporation of Pd, the average d‐band center of the CuPd bimetallic catalyst downward shifts relative to the Fermi level, making the adsorbed CO intermediates active for further C–C coupling. Theoretical calculations confirm that CO generated on the Pd domain can spill over to the CuPd interface for C–C coupling with a lower energy barrier, further promoting the formation of C2+ compounds. This study provides insights into the rational design of Cu‐based bimetallic catalysts for highly efficient CO2 electroreduction to multicarbon products.

Sinomenine is a morphinan alkaloid with a variety of biological activities. Its derivatives have shown significant cytotoxic activity against different cancer cell lines in many studies. In this study, two series of sinomenine derivatives were designed and synthesized by modifying the active positions C1 and C4 on the A ring of sinomenine. Twenty-three compounds were synthesized and characterized by spectroscopy (IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, and HRMS). They were further evaluated for their cytotoxic activity against five cancer cell lines, MCF-7, Hela, HepG2, SW480 and A549, and a normal cell line, Hek293, using MTT and CCK8 methods. The chlorine-containing compounds exhibited significant cytotoxic activity compared to the nucleus structure of sinomenine. Furthermore, we searched for cancer-related core targets and verified their interaction with derivatives through molecular docking. The chlorine-containing compounds 5g, 5i, 5j, 6a, 6d, 6e, and 6g exhibited the best against four core targets AKT1, EGFR, HARS and KARS. The molecular docking results were consistent with the cytotoxic results. Overall, results indicate that chlorine-containing derivatives might be a promising lead for the development of new anticancer agents.

Abstract We report the finding of mantle‐derived zircon grains retrieved from red soils, regoliths, and beach sands from Easter Island, that are much older than the island volcanism (0–2.5 Ma) and its underlying lithosphere (Pliocene, 3–4.8 Ma). A large population of 0–165 Ma old zircons have coherent oxygen (δ18O 3.8–5.9‰) and hafnium (εHf(t)+3.5–+12.5) mantle isotopic signatures. These results are consistent with the crystallization of zircon from plume‐related melts. In addition, a chemically diverse population with ages from the Paleozoic to the Archean was found. These older populations are enigmatic but they could represent remnants of ancient subducted sediments. Meanwhile, the ∼0–165 Ma population is interpreted as plume‐derived, suggesting that the hotspot started at least ∼165 Ma ago. A spike of ∼164–160 Ma zircons could represent a Large Igneous Province (LIP) stage upon the first arrival of the plume. We use plate reconstructions to show that such a LIP would have formed on the Phoenix Plate and would have subducted below the Antarctic Peninsula around 100–105 Ma. There, LIP subduction would offer a solution for the enigmatic Palmer Land deformation event, previously proposed to result from a collision with an unknown indenter. The here‐reported “ghost” of a prolonged hotspot activity suggests that fragments of the Easter plume and of the ambient sub‐lithospheric mantle stored and re‐sampled zircon xenocrysts due to convective (re)circulation at the scale of the plume head. Our study demonstrates how zircon geochronology and geochemistry provide novel insights into global‐scale geodynamics, offering new perspectives on the dynamics of mantle plumes and hotspot activity.

Abstract Electrocatalytic CO2 reduction is a typical reaction involving two reactants (CO2 and H2O). However, the role of H2O dissociation, which provides active *H species to multiple protonation steps, is usually overlooked. Herein, we construct a dual-active sites catalyst comprising atomic Cu sites and Cu nanoparticles supported on N-doped carbon matrix. Efficient electrosynthesis of multi-carbon products is achieved with Faradaic efficiency approaching 75.4% with a partial current density of 289.2 mA cm−2 at −0.6 V. Experimental and theoretical studies reveal that Cu nanoparticles facilitate the C-C coupling step through *CHO dimerization, while the atomic Cu sites boost H2O dissociation to form *H. The generated *H migrate to Cu nanoparticles and modulate the *H coverage on Cu NPs, and thus promote *CO-to-*CHO. The dual-active sites effect of Cu single-sites and Cu nanoparticles gives rise to the catalytic performance.

Amorphous metal catalysts often exhibit appealing catalytic properties, however, accurate control synthesis of amorphous nano-metal catalysts is a challenge. Here, the authors report a feasible strategy to prepare the amorphous Cu catalysts by supercritical CO2 treatment followed by electroreduction. The resulted catalyst shows high selectivity towards multi-carbon products for CO2 electroreduction.

Understanding the slow kinetics of hydrogen evolution reaction in neutral media is of fundamental importance for the rational design of high-performance electrocatalysts for hydrogen energy.
