Introduction: Natural and Traditional Medicine allows professionals to broaden the scientific scope in an integrative way, showing their performance in the health areas of Pinar del Río. Objective: to identify the elements that limits the practice of therapeutic modalities of Natural and Traditional Medicine at primary health care in Pinar del Río municipality. Methods: a descriptive observational study was conducted between May 2016 and July 2017 in the four polyclinics of the municipality of Pinar del Río. The study target group included the doctors and professors of the Basic Work Team (U=1 006). The collection of sample was conducted through cases by authority criteria, and within these by simple random cases, sample (n=234). Results: Comprehensive Medicine Specialists with more than five years of experience predominated, 30.3 % do not applied Natural and Traditional Medicine, 67.9 % considered it useful, 58.8% recognized its effectiveness, phytotherapy prevailed (69.6 %). Conclusion: the application of Natural and Traditional Medicine still demands a priority by the professionals in the primary health care as an alternative to its application, a not minor part expresses not to make use of it, everything indicates that it is an element not to be left to the spontaneity taking care of the scientific and ethical aspects of its necessary prescription as therapeutic modalities.

Introduction: the main results of different authors are addressed in relation to the vocabulary as a unit of language. The peculiarities of the pedagogical terminology are established and the pertinence of it is established in the training process of medical students. Objective: to analyze epistemologically the main theoretical references that are addressed both in the national and international literature in relation to the pedagogical terminology and its importance in the training of medical students. Method: the documentary analysis and the systematization were used as theoretical methods, which allowed organizing and extracting the relevant information, from the literature review made on the theme, which favored the arguments on the role of the process of training of the pedagogical terminology and reaching a contextualized definition of this process. Results: the pedagogical terminology is defined, and contextualized to the medical studies from the correspondence with the professional model, the integration of the training processes, and the enhancement of the cognitive and affective development of the student. Conclusions: it is considered that the pedagogical terminology is an important component in the act of pedagogical communication, as it is the structure of the specialized expression, both oral and writing which reflecting the knowledge related to the profession, as well as the specific historical environment in which it spreads out, unifying the cognitive and the social aspects.

Introduction: Acute respiratory infections constitute a serious health problem as they are the main cause of infant morbidity and mortality in the world, mainly during the first year of life. Objective: To clinically and epidemiologically characterize complicated community pneumonias in children admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the "Pepe Portilla" Pediatric Hospital. Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, descriptive study was carried out on 80 patients with pneumonia complicated by pleural effusion, admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the "Pepe Portilla" Pediatric Hospital. Results: children from 0 to 4 years of age were more affected (77,5 %), with a slight predominance of the male sex (60 %). Fever and polypnea were present in 15 % of the patients' symptoms. Streptococcus pneumoniae (8,7 %) was the predominant germ in pleural fluid. The combination of antibiotics and fibrinolytics (91,3 %) was the predominant therapeutic combination. Sepsis was the most common complication (22,5 %). The length of stay with most patients was < 10 days (81,3 %). Conclusions: the most affected age group was 0-4 years of age, the predominant sex was male, the predominant symptoms were fever and polypnea, Streptococcus pneumoniae was the microorganism responsible for the appearance of this disease, the use of antibiotics plus fibrinolytics was necessary, sepsis predominated as the most severe complication and the hospital stay in said unit was less than 10 days.
