Acute kidney disease (AKD) is a critical transitional period between acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease. The incidence of AKD following acute kidney injury is approximately 33.6%, and it can occur without identifiable preceding acute kidney injury. The development of AKD is associated with increased risks of chronic kidney disease, dialysis, and mortality. Biomarkers and subphenotypes are promising tools to predict prognosis in AKD. The complex clinical situations in patients with AKD necessitate a comprehensive and structured approach, termed “KAMPS” (kidney function check, advocacy, medications, pressure, sick day protocols). We introduce “MAND-MASS,” an acronym devised to summarize the reconciliation of medications during episodes of acute illness, as a critical component of the sick day protocols at AKD. A multidisciplinary team care, consisting of nephrologists, pharmacists, dietitians, health educators, and nurses, is an optimal model to achieve the care bundle in KAMPS. Although the evidence for patients with AKD is still lacking, several potential pharmacological agents may improve outcomes, including but not limited to angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers, mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists, sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors, and glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor agonists. In conclusion, accurate prognosis prediction and effective treatment for AKD are critical yet unmet clinical needs. Future studies are urgently needed to improve patient care in this complex and rapidly evolving field.

Abstract Objective Compare the number of puerperal women submitted to blood transfusion before and after the implementation of a care protocol for postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) with multidisciplinary team training. Methods Cross-sectional study in a university hospital, analyzing births from 2015 to 2019, compared the use of blood products before and after the adoption of a PPH protocol with multidisciplinary training. Results Between 2015 and 2019, there were 17,731 births, with 299 (1.7%) postpartum women receiving blood products and 278 postpartum women were considered for this analysis, 128 (0.7%) at Time 1 and 150 (0.8%) at Time 2. After the multiprofessional team training (T2), there was a difference in the complete use of the PPH protocol (use of oxytocin, misoprostol and tranexamic acid) (T1 = 5.1% x T2 = 49.5%, p≤0.0001). An individual categorized analysis revealed that, in the T2 period, there was lower use of blood component units per patient compared to T1 (Mann-Whitney, p=0.006). It should be noted that at T1 and T2, 54% and 24% respectively received two units of blood products. It is important to highlight that after the multidisciplinary team training for the PPH protocol, the goal of zero maternal death due to hemorrhage was reached. Conclusion The adoption of a specific protocol for PPH, combined with the training of a multidisciplinary team, had an impact on the ability to identify women at high risk of hemorrhage, resulting in a decrease in the use of blood components.

BackgroundIn response to the rising population of nursing home residents with frailty and multimorbidity, optimizing medication safety through drug utilization review and addressing medication-related problems (MRPs) is imperative. Clinical decision support systems help reduce medication errors and detect potential MRPs, as well as medication reviews performed by a multidisciplinary team, but these combined assessments are not commonly performed. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact on medication plans of a multidisciplinary team intervention in nursing homes, by analyzing the medication plan before and after the intervention and assessing whether the recommendations given had been implemented.MethodsA multicenter before-after study, involving five nursing homes, assessed the impact of a multidisciplinary team intervention, to estimate effectiveness related to the review of the prescribed medications. The follow-up period for each patient was 12 months or until death if prior, from July 2020 to February 2022, and involved 483 patients. The clinical pharmacologist coordinated the intervention and reviewed all the prescribed medications to make recommendations, focused on the completion of absent data, withdrawal of a drug, verification of whether a drug was adequate, the substitution of a drug, and the addition of drugs. Since the intervention was performed during the COVID-19 pandemic, optimization of psychotropic drugs and absorbent pads were limited.ResultsThe intervention had an impact with recommendations given for 398 (82.4%) of the patients and which were followed by 58.5% of them. At least one drug was withdrawn in 293 (60.7%) of the patients, with a mean of 2.3 (SD 1.7). As for the total of 1,097 recommendations given, 355 (32.4%) were followed. From the intervention, antipsychotics, antidepressants, benzodiazepines, statins, and diuretics were the most frequently withdrawn.ConclusionThe findings underscore the impact of targeted interventions to reduce inappropriate medications and enhance medication safety in nursing homes. The proposed recommendations given and followed show the importance of a multidisciplinary team, coordinated by a clinical pharmacologist, for a patient-centered approach to make medication reviews regularly, with the help of clinical decision support systems, to help reduce potential MRPs and polypharmacy.

Abstract Objective: to describe the feelings expressed by health professionals when caring for child and adolescent victims of sexual violence from the theoretical perspective of Symbolic Interactionism. Method: qualitative research carried out with 30 female health professionals. An instrument was used consisting of closed questions for sociodemographic data and a script with open questions for interviews. The data was organized and analyzed using Nvivo software version 12, according to Bardin’s proposal, from the perspective of Symbolic Interactionism in the work of Charles Morris. The project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee. Results: five thematic categories emerged, revealing feelings of empathy, fear, indignation, suffering, and consternation. These feelings remained in the interviewees’ memories, making caring for child and adolescent victims of sexual violence a moving and difficult experience that deeply marks the life of the health professional. Conclusion: there is a need to adopt strategies to support the mental health of professionals who work in services that provide general care to children and adolescents, considering that there is a possibility that they will provide care to child and adolescent victims of sexual violence in compliance with pre-existing public policies.

ABSTRACT Huntington's disease (HD) is a hereditary, neurodegenerative disease characterized by motor, cognitive, and behavioral issues. As the disease progresses, people become dependent on their caregivers leading to a significant burden. There is a lack of effective neuropsychological intervention to support this population. Objective: To develop an online neuropsychological intervention and evaluate its effects in decreasing the HD caregiver burden. Methods: This qualitative pilot study was conducted online during the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil. We selected a convenience sample of five informal caregivers of HD patients (mean 46.2 years old). At baseline, participants were assessed via an individual online neuropsychology interview/screening, covering demographic data. Subsequently, we conducted 20 online 90-minute sessions of the psychological consultation over 12 months. Each session was structured in three stages: 1) Welcoming; 2) Breathing and mindfulness practice; and 3) Discussion of themes about the group's needs based on the main complaints. A second intervention assessment was applied. Results: None of the caregivers were provided with details about HD at the time of diagnosis and later care. The necessity to care for a person with a rare genetic disease was added to caregivers' already-existing working routine and home services, causing a symptom of overload. After the neuropsychological intervention, all participants reported feeling less burdened by caring, improved self-care and conflict resolution with the person with HD through expanding behavioral repertoire focused on emotions and communication. Conclusion: Online neuropsychologic intervention can reduce the burden of HD caregivers. More comprehensive studies should investigate these findings.

Background: A well-functioning multidisciplinary team optimizes resource utilization and reduces care redundancy, fragmentation, and wastage. Collaborative efforts yield a clearer understanding of older people’s needs and desires, significantly reducing hospitalization days. Despite limited studies, particularly in Indonesia, investigating professionals’ experiences in implementing multidisciplinary collaboration in government nursing homes, nursing care quality remains a concern. Objective: This study aimed to explore the implementation of multidisciplinary collaboration in nursing homes from the perspectives of various disciplines. Methods: A descriptive phenomenological study was used with semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions with multidisciplinary care providers, including nurses, doctors, social workers, physiotherapists, psychologists, occupational and recreational activity instructors, and clergy in nursing homes owned by the Jakarta provincial government. A total of 64 participants were involved, and data were collected from September 2022 to July 2023. Data were analyzed using content-based analysis. Results: Three main themes emerged: 1) context of multiple collaborations, 2) barriers to implementing multiple collaborations, and 3) impacts of non-optimal multidisciplinary collaborations. Nursing home management’s multidisciplinary teams predominantly implement professional-centered care with limited support systems. While providers generally perceive collaboration positively, shared responsibility and joint work among professionals are lacking. Conclusion: This study highlights the need to improve multidisciplinary collaboration in nursing homes to enhance care quality for older individuals. While providers view collaboration positively, barriers like a lack of shared responsibility and joint work persist. Enhancing teamwork cohesion through improved communication and integrated case reporting systems is crucial. Addressing human resource and systemic barriers is also vital. By overcoming these challenges, nursing homes can optimize resource use, reduce care redundancy, and better meet the diverse needs of older residents.

Background: Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a common and lethal cancer. From diagnosis to disease staging, response to neoadjuvant therapy assessment and patient surveillance after resection, imaging plays a central role, guiding the multidisciplinary team in decision-planning. Review aims and findings: This review discusses the most up-to-date imaging recommendations, typical and atypical findings, and issues related to each step of patient management. Example cases for each relevant condition are presented, and a structured report for disease staging is suggested. Conclusion: Despite current issues in PDAC imaging at different stages of patient management, the radiologist is essential in the multidisciplinary team, as the conveyor of relevant imaging findings crucial for patient care.

Summary: Purpose: This study examined the modifiable factors, including nurse-led multidisciplinary education and in/out-of-hospital rehabilitation, to predict cardiac events in patients with heart failure (HF) in South Korea. Methods: A retrospective review of the medical records was conducted using data of patients admitted for HF between June 2021 and April 2022. A total of 342 patients were included in this study. Information related to HF education, cardiac rehabilitation, and demographic and clinical characteristics were collected. Cardiac events, including emergency department visits, readmissions, and deaths, were defined as a composite of events. After adjusting for covariates, a multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression model was used to explore the association between modifiable factors and cardiac events in patients with HF. Results: During the follow-up period (median, 823 days), 123 patients (36.0%) experienced at least one cardiac event. In the Cox regression model, patients who received nurse-led multidisciplinary HF education during hospitalization were less likely to experience cardiac events (hazard ratio: 0.487; 95% confidence interval [CI]:0.239–0.993). Additionally, high NT-pro BNP levels were associated with an increased risk of cardiac events. Conclusions: The education led by nurses on HF was a factor that reduced adverse prognoses in patients with HF. Our results highlight the importance of a nurse-led multidisciplinary approach during hospitalization.

Orofacial clefts (OFCs), including cleft lip (CL), cleft palate (CP), and CL with palate (CL/P), are relatively common congenital birth defects occurring in approximately 1 in 500 to 1 in 2500 live births. Detecting OFCs during prenatal ultrasound screening is crucial for informed decision-making and multidisciplinary medical care. This review provides a practical guide for routine and advanced screening for OFCs during mid-pregnancy. The Maarse classification system facilitates effective communication among the multidisciplinary team, categorizing OFCs into five types. Basic ultrasound views encompass coronal, sagittal, and axial imaging of the face and hard palate. Additional visualization techniques are employed in case of suspected anomalies during the initial screening. Advanced ultrasound views provided by the expert in prenatal OFC diagnosis include imaging of the posterior edge of the hard palate and the posterior part of the soft palate. Detected OFCs exhibit a range of severity and affect different structures, underscoring the importance of accurate detection and classification for appropriate treatment planning. Implementing a standardized screening protocol for OFCs is essential. By enhancing detection rates and enabling early diagnosis, prenatal ultrasound screening contributes to improved patient outcomes and facilitates timely intervention by the multidisciplinary team. In conclusion, this review emphasizes the significance of standardized protocols and specialized techniques for prenatal ultrasound screening of OFCs. Early detection and classification of these malformations play a vital role in comprehensive management, ensuring that affected individuals and their families receive the appropriate care and support they need.

This study was designed with the purpose of gaining deeper insight into current views and perspectives of academic and professional staff at an Australian university, as a precursor to planning IPE and SLC activities.Methods: All academic and professional staff from within the School of Health Sciences were invited to participate in the study. In-depth-qualitative interviews were conducted with 16 staff to explore academic and professional staff perspectives on IPE and SLCs. Reflexive thematic analysis was used to analyse the data.Results: Findings are grouped within five themes that incorporate broad perspectives on the tensions and possibilities of IPE and establishment of SLCs: Academic and professional staff commitment; Better/smarter IPE; Student-led clinic potential; Vision and innovation; and Strategy and resourcing. The themes reflect the high value placed on IPE by academic and professional staff and incorporate innovative ideas on how to prepare students for a rapidly changing and evolving healthcare environment. A reticence towards standard models of university based SLCs was expressed.Conclusion: Academic and professional staff insights suggest university leaders need to develop a greater strategic focus on improving IPE. Effective engagement with staff is required to support IPE planning and implementation. If considering implementation of SLCs, contemporary fit-for-purpose models should be explored such as partnerships with primary healthcare providers, community wellness facilities, and hospital clinics rather than traditional university-based clinics.Keywords: health occupations, interprofessional education, interdisciplinary placement, patient care team

Abstract Background Good oral health is an important part of healthy ageing, yet there is limited understanding regarding the status of oral health care for older people globally. This study reviewed evidence (policies, programs, and interventions) regarding oral health care for older people. Methods A systematic search of six databases for published and grey literature in the English language by the end of April 2022 was undertaken utilising Arksey and O’Malley’s scoping review framework. Results The findings from oral health policy documents (n = 17) indicated a lack of priorities in national health policies regarding oral health care for older people. The most common oral health interventions reported in the published studies (n = 62) included educational sessions and practical demonstrations on oral care for older adults, nurses, and care providers. Other interventions included exercises of facial muscles and the tongue, massage of salivary glands, and application of chemical agents, such as topical fluoride. Conclusion There is currently a gap in information and research around effective oral health care treatments and programs in geriatric dental care. Efforts must be invested in developing guidelines to assist both dental and medical healthcare professionals in integrating good oral health as part of healthy ageing. Further research is warranted in assessing the effectiveness of interventions in improving the oral health status of the elderly and informing approaches to assist the integration of oral health into geriatric care.

ABSTRACT Objective: To grasp the meaning of perinatal palliative care for the multidisciplinary team. Methods: This is a qualitative study guided by content analysis. The study included 56 health professionals working in maternal and child units of a public university hospital. A semi-structured interview was conducted, which was recorded and subsequently fully transcribed. The collection took place from June 2018 to May 2019. Data were entered and exported to Atlas ti: The Qualitative Date Analysis & Research Software, version 23.1.1.0. Results: Four thematic categories emerged from the data analysis: palliative care and eligible public in the view of professionals; communication between family and team in decision-making; assistance in palliative care; humanized care. Conclusions: The professionals think of palliative care in Perinatology in a similar way and perceive the difficulties of communication with the family and decision-making. They agree that it is necessary to provide greater support to the family, and to provide comfort measures, either for the non-viable fetus or for the baby eligible for palliative care.

Objective: To understand the meaning of the crisis phenomenon and the motivations and expectations of workers in the care of people in crisis in a Psychosocial Care Center for Alcohol and Drugs (CAPSad). Method: qualitative research, based on Alfred Schutz's social phenomenology, was carried out with 14 workers in January and February 2022 in the municipality of Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. The interviews were subjected to phenomenological analysis. Results: the crisis is reported as a time of suffering, with a potential for transformation, covering subjective, social, and family aspects. Effective crisis care involves verbal management, bonding, and teamwork. The expectations following the care of a person in crisis are aimed at the well-being, reduction of suffering, and protection of the user. Conclusion: It is essential to break away from the biological model in the approach to users, overcoming stigmas and strengthening comprehensive care.

ABSTRACT. The repercussions of Long COVID demand specialised rehabilitation care. Interdisciplinary interventions in a 58-year-old patient were implemented to improve the clinical, motor and cognitive complaints associated with COVID-19. The rehabilitation team performed quantitative and qualitative evaluations in the initial phase and after 12 months of follow-up. The patient’s neuropathic pain, ankle and foot muscle strength, gait pattern, general cognitive functioning, initiative, emotional expressiveness, processing speed, neuropsychiatric symptoms and quality of life improved. She demonstrated gains in metacognition and expanded the use of compensatory strategies, resuming her routine and professional activities, although still with signs of executive dysfunction. It is concluded that a rehabilitation program calibrated to the profile of the patient with Long COVID had positive effects on functionality and satisfaction with quality of life.

Rare disease or an orphan disease is a disease that affects a small percentage of the population. Most of these diseases are present throughout the patients life, even if the symptoms do not appear immediately. They are often fatal or chronically debilitating and the impact on the quality of life of patients and their families is significant. Patients with rare diseases often experience delays in diagnosis, which can negatively impact management and delay treatment. Familial genetic testing or cascade genotyping of all newly diagnosed individuals can speed up the diagnosis of these diseases and allow more patients to be identified at a younger age. Care for patients with chronic and rare diseases is complex, mainly due to lack of knowledge about the disease, which makes accurate and early diagnosis difficult, in addition to the need to perform specific tests, which are sometimes highly complex and costly. Added to these factors are difficulties in obtaining adequate treatment when available, raising awareness of the patient and family about the disease and adherence to treatment.A multidisciplinary approach is very important: care provided by a doctor, nurse, psychologist, nutritionist and social worker. These professionals, in addition to medical care, address the particularities of the disease and treatment, the impact on the life of the patient and his family, the approach to psychological and social issues, and guidance regarding medications and diets.

Objective: to investigate the relationship between team climate and job satisfaction among professionals working in mobile pre-hospital care. Method: this is a quantitative, correlational study carried out in a mobile pre-hospital care service in the São Paulo Metropolitan Region. The participants were 95 professionals, allocated to 40 teams, who answered three questionnaires: sociodemographic/labor data, Team Climate Scale and S20/23 Job Satisfaction Scale. Descriptive statistics and multilevel linear models were used for the analysis, including moderation effects. The Backward method was used to ascertain the order of significance. Results: in the models, the relationships between satisfaction with hierarchical relationships and the factor “support for new ideas” moderated for men and “task orientation” for women were significant. For satisfaction with the physical environment, “working hours” and “participation in the team” were significant and, for intrinsic satisfaction, the regime, working hours and the factors “team objectives”, “participation in the team” and “support for new ideas” remained significant, as did the moderation effect between length of service, “participation in the team” and “support for new ideas”. Conclusion: team climate is influenced by job satisfaction in a heterogeneous way and the moderating effect of this relationship is associated with gender and length of service.

Abstract Background Postpartum hemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal death and severe maternal morbidity worldwide. Previous studies have reported the importance of multidisciplinary treatment approaches for postpartum hemorrhage; however, only a few studies have shown a clear improvement in maternal outcomes. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the efficacy of a call system for postpartum hemorrhage in a tertiary emergency facility for rapid multidisciplinary treatment and its effect on maternal outcomes. Methods This single-center retrospective cohort study included patients transferred to our hospital due to postpartum hemorrhage between April 1, 2013, and March 31, 2019. The primary outcome was mortality, and the secondary outcomes were morbidity (duration of hospital stay, duration of intensive care unit stay, admission to the intensive care unit, respirator use, duration of ventilator support, acute kidney injury, transfusion-associated circulatory overload/transfusion-related acute lung injury, hysterectomy, composite adverse events, blood transfusion initiation time, blood transfusion volume, and treatment for postpartum hemorrhage). An in-hospital call system implementation commenced on April 1, 2016. The study outcomes were compared 3 years before and after implementing the call system. Results The blood transfusion initiation time and duration of hospital stay were significantly shortened after implementing the call system for postpartum hemorrhage. No maternal deaths were observed after implementing the system. Conclusions Implementing call systems specialized for postpartum hemorrhage in tertiary emergency facilities may improve maternal outcomes.

Hospital administrators can encourage healthcare staff to voluntarily examine the potential occurrence and severity of risks, thereby enhancing awareness of patient safety. The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of huddle intervention on patient safety culture among medical team members and related factors.Methods: We used a one-group pretest-posttest research design and convenience sampled 109 members of the general internal medicine ward team members from a medical center in central Taiwan. They participated 2 times per week in 15-min huddles from 08:15 to 08:30 in the morning, which lasted for a total of 4 weeks. The process was based on submitted ideas, approved ideas, research ideas and standardization, and data on the safety attitudes questionnaire (SAQ) were collected during the huddles’ intervention pretest and posttest.Results: After the huddle intervention, we found significantly improved scores for safety attitude, teamwork climate (76.49± 16.13 vs 83.26± 13.39, p < 0.001), safety climate (75.07± 16.07 vs 82.63± 13.72, p < 0.001), job satisfaction (73.67± 19.84 vs 83.39± 17.21, p < 0.001), perceptions of management (77.87± 19.99 vs 84.86± 16.03, p < 0.001) and working conditions (78.96± 18.16 vs 86.18± 14.90, p < 0.001). Correlation analyses on the differences between pretest and posttest showed that age had a significant correlation with safety climate (r = 0.22, p = 0.022) and working conditions (r = 0.20, p = 0.035). The number of times to participate in a huddle had a significant correlation with teamwork climate (r = 0.33, p =< .001), safety climate (r = 0.30, p = 0.002), job satisfaction (r = 0.19, p = 0.043), and work conditions (r = 0.28, p = 0.003).Conclusion: Huddles improve clinical team members’ understanding of different dimensions and relate factors of safety attitudes. Implementation of the huddles involved standardized process will help hospital administrators understand the steps to parallel expansion to other wards.Keywords: huddle, patient safety, patient care team

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is currently the most common chronic liver disease, and there has been a rapid increase in cases worldwide. NAFLD is rapidly becoming the leading cause of hepatocellular carcinoma and is also associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease or exacerbation of other organ diseases, thus posing a significant health problem from both a medical and a socioeconomic perspective. NAFLD is a systemic disease and requires the involvement of numerous medical professionals. Multidisciplinary collaboration, in which different professionals within different specialties come together and work together toward a common goal, supports better patient care by integrating perspectives of multiple experts and facilitating the exchange of opinions. Due to the large number of potential patients, gastroenterologists and hepatologists cannot manage the patients alone, and collaboration between specialists in various fields, including family doctors, dentists, nutritionists, and pharmacists is required for treatment of NAFLD. This review will discuss NAFLD from the perspective of various specialties and introduce multidisciplinary collaboration.

Objective: To identify clinical and epidemiological characteristics of children evaluated by the pediatric aerodigestive program at the beginning of its activity, describe challenges in follow-up, and suggest mitigation strategies. Methods: A case series was conducted describing the first 25 patients discussed by the aerodigestive team from a Brazilian quaternary public university hospital between April 2019 and October 2020. The median follow-up was 37 months. Results: During the study period 25 children were seen by the group and the median age at first assessment was 45.7 months old. Eight children had a primary airway abnormality, five had a tracheostomy. Nine children had genetic disorders and one had esophageal atresia. Dysphagia was present in 80% of the patients, 68% had a history of chronic or recurrent lung disease, 64% had a gastroenterological diagnosis and 56% had neurological impairment. Moderate to severe dysphagia was identified in 12 children and 7 of these had an exclusive oral diet at the time. The majority of children (72%) had 3 or more comorbidities. Following team discussion, a change in feeding strategy was suggested in 56% of the children. The most frequently ordered exam was pHmetry (44%) and gastrostomy was the surgical procedure with the longest waiting list. Conclusions: Dysphagia was the most frequent issue encountered in this initial group of aerodigestive patients. Pediatricians caring for these children must be involved in aerodigestive team discussions and hospital policies must be revised to facilitate access to exams and procedures needed for this population.

Introduction: The present study aimed to determine the correlation between organizational culture and the organizational commitment of surgical team members.Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on 200 surgical team members at hospitals affiliated with Iran Univesity of Medical Sciences in 2019. Cluster sampling and then classification with proportional allocation was performed to select samples. Three questionnaires of demographic information, Robbin's organizational culture, and Allen and Meyer's organizational commitment were used to collect data. Independent t-test, Pearson correlation coefficient, and analysis of variance were used to analyze the data.Results: The participants’ mean age in the study was 34.37±8.21 years, and they were mostly women (62.5%). BACKGROUND: Maintaining and improving infant health and continuing care at home are very important for the health system. According to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and its effects on the health system capacity and medical staff’s physical-mental health, this study investigated the health staff’s attitude on the implementation of an infant home care plan. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study was conducted on 130 nurses, midwives, and doctors working in the newborn care department in Isfahan health-therapeutic centers, with at least 6 months of work experience. The samples were selected by random multistage method and completed the researcher-made 5-point Likert questionnaire with 25 items and two areas of education support and security safety. The total score of this questionnaire varied from 25 to 125, and obtaining a score equal to or greater than 91 meant that people had a favorable opinion about home care for babies. The reliability of the questionnaire was reported by Cronbach’s α of 0.79, and content validity ratio (CVR) and content validity index (CVI) scores of 0.88–0.99 and 0.79–0.1, respectively. Data analysis was performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences version 18.0 (SPSS) (Chicago, USA) and analysis of descriptive statistics, Chi-square, and Pearson correlation tests at a 0.05 significance level. RESULTS: The mean score of medical staff's attitude was obtained at 77.59 ± 11.71 and the security-safety and education-support domains scores were 41.3 ± 6.34 and 36.29 ± 6.11, respectively. In addition, a significant inverted relationship was observed between the mean score of medical staffs’’attitude with age and the number of shifts. CONCLUSION: According to the results, the medical staff's attitude about the infant home care program is neutral, and designing a professional educational period, considering economic preparations and responsibility assurance is essential for creating confidence and acceptance of the infant home care program by the medical staff.

Objectives: This study aimed to establish and implement an interdisciplinary management strategy led by senior nurses via a vascular access specialist team (VAST) at a teaching hospital. Methods: In 2021, the hospital established and implemented a nurse-led VAST management strategy to improve the quality of clinical central line maintenance. The VAST comprised senior nurses specialized in intravenous therapy, ultrasound/radiology technologists, medical doctors with central venous catheterization certificates, central line maintenance nurses, and administrative coordinators. The management strategy mainly included systemic on-the-job training for VAST members, the establishment of an interdisciplinary central line emergency “green channel,” the formation of a VAST-based, nurse-led standardized clinical rounding system, and the standardization of central line self-care instructions for patients. During the pre- (July 2020 to April 2021) and post- (May 2021 to May 2022) of the implementation the interdisciplinary management strategy, overall patients’ self-care ability, the success rate of catheterization at first time, central line management compliance rate, and patients’ satisfaction with catheter maintenance were investigated and compared. Results: The results showed the score self-care ability was increased from 74.75 ± 18.4 (pre-VAST) to 99.10 ± 23.65 (post- VAST); the success rate for catheterization at first time was improved to 100% (225/225), compared to 92.9% (209/225) at pre-VAST; the central line management compliance rate was also increased to 99.6% (224/225) at post-VAST from 93.3% (210/225) at pre-VAST. Abstract Purpose To describe the process of delivery of pediatric palliative care from the perspective of a pediatric interdisciplinary team and the children’s parents. Methods A qualitative descriptive case study was conducted. Purposeful sampling took place within a specialized pediatric palliative care Unit in Madrid (Spain), located at the Niño Jesus Hospital. The study participants included a specialized pediatric palliative care team from Madrid's pediatric palliative care program, other professional teams involved in interdisciplinary care and parents of children under pediatric palliative care. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews, focus groups and researchers’ field notes. A thematic analysis was performed. Results This study included 28 participants (20 women, 8 men), of whom 18 were professionals who belonged to the pediatric palliative care interdisciplinary team, 4 professionals were from other units that collaborated with the pediatric palliative care, and 6 were parents (5 women, 1 man). The mean age of the pediatric palliative care members was 38.2 years (SD ± 7.9), that of the collaborating professionals was 40.5 (SD ± 6.8), and that of the parents was 44.2 (SD ± 5.4). Two main themes emerged: a) Pediatric palliative care has a distinct identity, associated with life. It represents the provision of special care in highly complex children, in the context of the home, far from the hospital environment; b) The team is key: its interdisciplinary organization provides a more comprehensive view of the child and their family, fosters communication among professionals, and improves coordination with other services involved in the care of children. The mindset shift experienced by ID-PPC professionals towards a palliative approach makes them more sensitive to the needs of their patients and leads them to develop specific skills in areas such as communication, decision-making, and adaptability that were identified as differentiating aspects of pediatric palliative care. Conclusions Describing pediatric palliative care from the professional and parental perspective helps to establish realistic and comprehensive goals for the care of children and their parents. The findings of this study may help with the establishment of a pediatric palliative care team, as a necessary organizational change in a health care system that cares for children with complex and life-threatening conditions. Promoting training in pediatric palliative care, prioritizing more horizontal organizations, providing tools and spaces for coordination and communication between professionals from different services, together with the creation of a position of case coordinator in the care process of children could enhance the understanding of pediatric palliative care services.

Language impairments often appear in patients with schizophrenia and are potential targets for rehabilitation. Clinical practice and research should be intimately connected. The aim was to perform a narrative review of the assessment and intervention tools that have been used for the rehabilitation of schizophrenia patients with language and communication impairments. Two types of tools, general and specific, were developed for both purposes. General tools include the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale for assessment, and the Integrated Psychological Therapy for intervention. The specific tools used to evaluate language and communication impairments include the Scale for the Assessment of Thought, Language and Communication, the Formal Thought Disorder scales (for caregivers and patients), and the Thought and Language Disorder scale. The most recent language-specific intervention tools include the Cognitive Pragmatic Treatment, Conecta-2, Let's talk! Multimodal Speech-Gesture training, Speech Therapy Intervention Group, and PragmaCom. These tools primarily involve psychopathology/psychiatry, psychology, linguistics, speech and language therapy, and nursing. In conclusion, a wide range of assessment and intervention tools are available for the rehabilitation of language and communication impairments associated with schizophrenia. An integrative and interdisciplinary approach should always be considered for rehabilitation of language and communication in patients with schizophrenia throughout their lifetime.

Objective: to describe nurses' experience with the use of the ELMO helmet for the treatment of patients with COVID-19. Methods: experience report in an emergency care unit located in a metropolitan city of Ceará, Brazil, in the period from March 15 to June 22, 2021. Content Analysis was used for organization and analysis through references in the area. Results: the potentialities of care during the ELMO helmet use were observed, such as a decrease in indications for orotracheal intubation, improvement in respiratory distress, and decrease in morbidity, but also weaknesses such as diminished patient-healthcare professional communication, need for careful evaluation of the time of use and patient response, risk of psychological instability, and risk of broncho-aspiration; moreover, health teams collaborative aspects such as increased intra-team communication, effective interaction, and greater decision-making were registered. Conclusion: important results in treating COVID-19 can result from the use of this tool; however, there is a need for strict monitoring in order to avoid major respiratory complications as well as physical and psychological sequelae from the wearing of ELMO.

Abstract Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed malignancy in patients worldwide and the main cause of cancer-related death. Though still incurable, metastatic breast cancer’s prognosis has been considerably improved in the past 10 years due to the introduction of new targeted agents, such as immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI). However, these medications are associated with unique side effects known as immune-mediated adverse events (irAE). In this paper, we review the clinical evidence for the use of ICIs in breast cancer, in both the metastatic as well as neoadjuvant/adjuvant setting, followed by a review of irAE most commonly seen, and the medications used to treat them. Our opinion is that any cancer specialist treating patients with breast cancer should be aware of these side effects for early detection and management, and oncologists should be the leaders of the multidisciplinary team that will take care of them.

Muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) is an aggressive disease with a complex treatment. In Brazil, as in most developing countries, data are scarce, but mortality seems exceedingly high. We have created a centralized program involving a multidisciplinary clinic in a region comprising 7 municipalities. Helping patients with adequate performance status get the right treatment helped to reduce 90-day mortality after radical cystectomy from 37% to 1.9%.

Objective: to construct a theoretical model that can represent the experience of people with disabilities during the physical rehabilitation process. Methods: qualitative research, based on the theoretical framework of Grounded Theory. We interviewed 28 participants in three sample groups, using a theoretical sampling and data circularity to analyze initial, focused, and theoretical codings. Results: the phenomenon "Experiencing the process of rehabilitation" was formed by 66 conceptual codes. Its conditions were the categories: “Coping with the new condition”, “Experiencing the challenge of rehabilitation”. Action-interaction: “Finding motivation for rehabilitation”; consequence: “Adapting to the condition”. Conclusion: the theoretical model highlights the need to cope with the disability, leading the individual to learn how to deal with challenges and to recognize the gradual and challenging nature of rehabilitation. Contributions to practice: the theoretical model is innovative for explaining the rehabilitation process in people with disabilities, highlighting the importance of facing the new condition, finding motivation, and adapting. The crucial role of the health team also stands out, as do the relevance of getting in touch with others who have been through the same process. The application of this model is expected to increase rehabilitation efficiency, culminating in higher quality of life for patients.

Summary: Background: People with complex symptomatology but unclear diagnosis presenting to a centre for rare diseases (CRD) may present with mental (co-)morbidity. We hypothesised that combining an expert in somatic medicine with a mental health specialist working in tandem will improve the diagnostic outcome. Methods: Patients aged 12 years and older who presented to one of the 11 participating German CRDs with an unknown diagnosis were recruited into this prospective cohort trial with a two-phase cohort design. From October 1, 2018 to September 30, 2019, participants were allocated to standard care (SC, N = 684), and from October 1, 2019 to January 31, 2021 to innovative care (IC, N = 695). The cohorts consisted mainly of adult participants with only a minority of children included (N = 67). IC included the involvement of a mental health specialist in all aspects of care (e.g., assessing medical records, clinic visits, telehealth care, and case conferences). Clinicaltrials.gov identifier: NCT03563677. Findings: The proportion of patients with diagnoses established within 12 months after the first visit to the CRD explaining the entire symptomatology (primary outcome) was 19% (N = 131 of 672) in the SC and 42% (N = 286 of 686) in the IC cohort (OR adjusted for centre effects 3.45 [95% CrI: 1.99–5.65]). The difference was mainly due to a higher prevalence of mental disorders and non-rare somatic diseases in the IC cohort. The median time to explaining diagnoses was one month shorter with IC (95% CrI: 1–2), and significantly more patients could be referred to local regular care in the IC (27.5%; N = 181 of 659) compared to the SC (12.3%; N = 81 of 658) cohort (OR adjusted for centre effects 2.70 [95% CrI: 2.02–3.60]). At 12-month follow-up, patient satisfaction with care was significantly higher in the IC compared to the SC cohort, while quality of life was not different between cohorts. Interpretation: Our findings suggested that including a mental health specialist in the entire evaluation process of CRDs for undiagnosed adolescents and adults should become an integral part of the assessment of individuals with a suspected rare disease. ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the perspective of doctors, nurses, and social workers about practices for older people health in primary care and in hospitals; to create guidelines for the practice of interdisciplinary consultations. Method: Cross-sectional study involving 291 professionals from public institutions in the northern region of Portugal. Data were collected between May/2018 and March/2019, using a questionnaire which was then subjected to descriptive and analytical statistical analysis. Results: The usefulness of scales for elderly people showed no differences between hospital and primary care. Hospital professionals collected the following data: eyesight/hearing; medication; direct contact or contact by writing between professionals; daily team meetings; need to share information among colleagues. Primary care professionals, in turn, valued: weight/height, swallowing; the need for home visits; direct contact or via e-mail between professionals; weekly team meetings. Conclusion: The practices of the professionals suggested an intervention model with common aspects in both groups, but with specificities for both primary and hospital care.

Objective: To contribute to the debate about tools that favor the organization of the health work process and its interface with interdisciplinary practices. Material and Methods: We opted for a textual construction based on more specific publications on the field of oral health care. Results: The matrix support is configured as a method of inter-professional activity in co-management that aims to favor the qualification of the health care network. From this perspective, it is an interdisciplinary practice capable of integrating two or more areas of knowledge for a better performance of the actors involved in a given organizational and decision-making process, whether in the clinical or health management scope. Conclusion: Matrix support is an essential tool for the practice of managing health services and amplifying interdisciplinary actions.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the perception of the patient safety climate in primary health care associated with professional categories, health centers, and previous experience of participation in the National Program for the Improvement of Access and Quality of Primary Care. Method: Cross-sectional study with 119 health professionals in a city in the interior of the state of São Paulo, between August 2019 and February 2020, using the Brazilian version of the Primary Care Safety Questionnaire. Results: The safety climate was favorable, with better evaluation for communication and leadership and worse evaluation for workload. There were differences among health centers regarding teamwork (p=0.0010), workload (p=0.0001) and total score (p=0.0185). Professionals with previous experience participating in the improvement program have a better perception of the climate. Conclusion: The perception of climate did not differ between professional categories but differed between health centers.

Background: There are various approaches in primary health care regarding the key role of nurses. This systematic review investigates the roles of nurses, as part of the family medicine team. Materials and Methods: All published articles related to the role of nurses in the family medicine team from January 2000 to March 2022 were the subjects of this study. The eligibility criteria included original articles published in English or Persian in the last two decades. International credible scholarly databases (PubMed, Scopus, Magiran, IranMedex, and SID) were searched using keywords and syntax. Some of the keywords included “Family Health Nurse,” “Nurses in Primary Care,” “Family Medicine,” “Family Physician Care Program,” “General Physician Program,” “Role,” and “Nurse.” Data were extracted based on Sample, Phenomenon of Interest, Design, Evaluation, Research type (SPIDER) technique and reported based on the structure of Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Results: Of 147 identified publications by the search strategy, eight eligible empirical studies were included. The results showed that besides providing nursing care, nurses play vital roles in communication and teamwork, assessment, securing health services relevant to communities' needs, education, empowerment, clinical practice, health promotion, prevention, reflective research practice, and counseling. Conclusions: This study identified different roles nurses could play in providing primary health care. These findings are helpful for the replanning or reform of primary health care in countries, which aimed to expand the Family Physician Program (FPP) in their countries, including Iran.

Abstract Background The COVID-19 pandemic challenged healthcare systems worldwide and disrupted primary care, particularly prevention, screening, and lifestyle counselling. BETTER WISE is a comprehensive and structured approach that proactively addresses cancer and chronic disease prevention and screening (CCDPS), including cancer survivorship and screening for poverty and lifestyle risks for patients aged 40 to 65. Patients from 13 primary care clinics (urban, rural, and remote) in Alberta, Ontario, and Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada were invited for a 1-hour visit with a prevention practitioner (PP), a member of the primary care team with specialized training in CCDPS to provide patients an overview of eligible screening and assist with lifestyle counselling. This qualitative sub-study describes how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted BETTER WISE in a constantly changing medical landscape. Methods We conducted 17 focus groups and 48 key informant interviews with a total of 132 primary care providers (PPs, physicians, allied health professionals, and clinic staff) over three different time points to better understand their perspectives on the BETTER WISE project. We also received 585 patient feedback forms of the 1005 patients who agreed to participate in the study. We also collected field notes and memos and employed thematic analysis using a constant comparative method focused on the impact of the pandemic on BETTER WISE. Results We identified four themes related to how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted the BETTER WISE study: 1) Switch of in-person visits to visits over the phone; 2) Lack of access to preventive care and delays of screening tests; 3) Changes in primary care providers’ availability and priorities; 4) Mental health impacts of the pandemic on patients and primary care providers. Conclusions The COVID-19 pandemic had and, at the time of writing, continues to have an impact on primary care, particularly on prevention, screening, and lifestyle counselling. Despite structural, procedural, and personal challenges throughout different waves of the pandemic, the primary care clinics participating in BETTER WISE were able to complete the study. Our results underscore the importance of the role of primary care providers in adapting to changing circumstances and support of patients in these challenging times. Abstract We previously described the hypotheses, outcomes, design, and analysis for E2C2, a pragmatic stepped-wedge trial to assess an intervention to improve symptom control in patients with cancer. Subsequent consideration of the design and cohort led to the addition of a second primary hypothesis. This article describes and presents the rationale for this second hypothesis. This addendum also details a revised analytic approach, necessitated by inconsistencies in the original analytic plan. The design, outcomes, and other aspects of the protocol remain unchanged.

Abstract Background Mixed evidence exists regarding the effectiveness of the Chronic Care Model (CCM) with patient outcomes. The aim of this review is to examine the effectiveness of CCM interventions on hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), systolic BP (SBP), diastolic BP (DBP), LDL cholesterol and body mass index (BMI) among primary care adults with type 2 diabetes. Methods PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane Central Registry of Controlled Trials, Scopus and Web of Science were searched from January 1990 to June 2021 for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing CCM interventions against usual care among adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus in primary care with HbA1c, SBP, DBP, LDL cholesterol and BMI as outcomes. An abbreviated search was performed from 2021 to April 2022. This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines for data extraction and Cochrane risk of bias assessment. Two reviewers independently extracted the data. Meta-analysis was performed using Review Manager software. Heterogeneity was evaluated using χ2 and I 2 test statistics. Overall effects were evaluated using Z statistic. Results A total of 17 studies involving 16485 patients were identified. Most studies had low risks of bias. Meta-analysis of all 17 studies revealed that CCM interventions significantly decreased HbA1c levels compared to usual care, with a mean difference (MD) of −0.21%, 95% CI −0.30, −0.13; Z = 5.07, p

Background The general practitioner (GP) is central to managing patients with cancer, whose numbers are increasing worldwide. The GP’s involvement requires better coordination between involved partners, in particular oncologists and GPs. Objectives To conduct a feasibility study of remote participation of GPs in multi-disciplinary consultation meetings (MCMs). We analysed participation, participants’ satisfaction, and their impact on therapeutic decisions. Methods We conducted a feasibility study in the regional cancer centre of Toulouse, France. All patient cases discussed in the MCMs for myelodysplasia from 1 January to 31 March 2016 were included. Cases of patients aged over 18 years, with a diagnosis of myelodysplasia and registered with a GP were included if patients gave informed consent. One investigator collected the data provided by GPs during three telephone or video calls: before, during, and after the MCM, respectively. Results Of 86 patient cases discussed during three months of MCMs, 44 were eligible for GP participation; 27 GPs participated in discussions of 27 patient cases. The GP’s participation in the MCM led to a change in management in five cases, with four times treatment intensifications and once de-intensification. Medical, social, family-related, and psychological domains were discussed with input from the GPs. Overall, all participants were satisfied with the MCMs. Conclusion Remote participation of GPs in MCMs is feasible and may result in adapting oncological and haematological management for patients. This patient-centred approach requires a specific organisation that, when implemented, satisfies the needs of all participants.

Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a type of recurrent infection in critical patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and has high morbidity and mortality rates. Its pathogenesis results from the introduction of oral microbiota bacilli passed from the orotracqueal tube to the lower respiratory tract, functioning as a potential reservoir of infectious material. The aim of this study is to assess the knowledge of an ICU nursing team on oral hygiene (OH) in critically ill patients under hospitalization and, from the data obtained, to elaborate an informative material on the main issues pointed out. It is an exploratory, descriptive and quantitative study carried out in two stages: the application of a questionnaire to analyze the team’s knowledge on oral hygiene methods as a measure of disease prevention; and the preparation of an educational booklet with approaches on the subject in order to inform and update the participants. We counted with the collaboration of 65 professionals, mostly female and aged between 31-40 years. As for oral hygiene in patients under mechanical ventilation, most of the participants answered that they had not received information on the subject during professional training, as well as not having knowledge of the protocol for these procedures in the institution they were working. All of them agreed that oral hygiene is important in critically ill patients. However, the majority did not associate it with the prevention of VAP. Thus, the implementation and supervision of interdisciplinary actions to promote oral health in critically ill patients under hospitalization is capable of promoting a standardized conduct, as well as better care for the individual admitted in the ICU.

Hypertension remains the leading cause of cardiovascular disease globally despite the availability of safe and effective treatments. Unfortunately, many barriers exist to controlling hypertension, including a lack of effective screening and awareness, an inability to access treatment and challenges with its management when it is treated. Addressing these barriers is complex and requires engaging in a systematic and sustained approach across communities over time. This analysis aims to describe the key elements needed to create an effective delivery system for hypertension control. A successful system requires political will and supportive leadership at all levels of an organization, including at the point of care delivery (office or clinic), in the health care system, and at regional, state and national levels. Effective screening and outreach systems are necessary to identify individuals not previously diagnosed with hypertension, and a system for follow up and tracking is needed after people are diagnosed. Implementing simple protocols for treating hypertension can reduce confusion among providers and increase treatment efficiency. Ensuring easy access to safe, effective and affordable medications can increase blood pressure control and potentially decrease health care system costs. Task-sharing among members of the health care team can expand the services that are delivered. Finally, monitoring of and reporting on the performance of the health care team are needed to learn from those who are doing well, disseminate ideas to those in need of improvement and identify individual patients who need outreach or additional care. Successful large-scale hypertension programs in different settings share many of these key elements and serve as examples to improve systems of hypertension care delivery throughout the world.

Cancer is one of the key leading causes of deaths worldwide, with a disproportionately high burden in Asia in terms of incidence and mortality. Guidelines and recommendations published by the World Health Organization (WHO) state palliative care as an essential service for patients with cancer and other chronic diseases. Currently, there is extensive evidence regarding different models of palliative care delivery. However, development of palliative care services remains fragmented in Asia, and more research is needed to synthesize available models of care in this region and provide the latest evidence-based information for healthcare providers. This narrative review aims to identify peer-reviewed studies published after 2017 that reported both on models of palliative care service delivery and outcomes for adult patients with cancer in selected East and Southeast Asian countries. This review is beneficial by offering a detailed summary of the models of care adopted by these countries, and their impact on patient outcomes. It is hoped that the evidence will also create impetus for continued conversation around palliative care development in Asia.

Background: Hemodialysis is the most commonly used renal replacement therapy for end-stage renal disease. The collaborative efforts of multidisciplinary teams comprising nephrologists, nurses, pharmacists, and dietitians play a crucial role in enhancing patient outcomes, improving the quality of care, and reducing treatment costs. However, various factors such as healthcare cost reduction, limited resources, profit-driven systems, organizational structure, and involvement in patient care decisions impact the provision of hemodialysis care by the multidisciplinary teams. Objective: This study aimed to explore the institutional practices of multidisciplinary teams within a hemodialysis unit. Methods: This institutional ethnography study was conducted between April 2019 to February 2020 in a hemodialysis unit of a public university hospital in Kathmandu, Nepal. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews with ten nurses (including supervisors and incharge), two nephrologists, two dietitians, two pharmacists, and two technicians. Additionally, 167 hours of observation, two focus groups with nurses, analysis of institutional texts, and field notes were conducted. Participants were purposively selected based on their ability to provide diverse information regarding institutional practices in hemodialysis care. Interviews were recorded and transcribed. Results: The analyzed data were presented in: 1) the context of hemodialysis care, 2) textual practices: the ruling relations of hemodialysis care (staffing, protocol, job description), 3) hemodialysis decision, and 4) institutional support. Conclusion: Hemodialysis care provided by multidisciplinary teams is constrained by limited resources, particularly in terms of physical space, dialysis machines, nurses, doctors, and dietitians. The hospital's cost-cutting policies lead to reduced investment in patient care equipment, particularly dialysis machines, which significantly impact the workload of nurses and technicians. Insufficient nurse staffing necessitates the provision of other renal care responsibilities, resulting in increased workload, reduced time available for hemodialysis care, and unfinished tasks. The absence of clear job descriptions for hemodialysis care places an additional burden on nurses, who are often required to fulfill the responsibilities of other healthcare teams. Doctors hold the authority in making care decisions, which are subsequently followed by other team members.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to assess the multidisciplinary team of a Psychosocial Care Center I from users’ and family members’ perspective. Methods: an evaluative study, anchored in the fourth generation evaluation theoretical-methodological framework, carried out in a Psychosocial Care Center I, from September 2021 to March 2022. Eleven users and 06 family members participated. Data were collected through non-participant observation, individual interviews and negotiation sessions, and analyzed using the Constant Comparative Method, using the MAXQDA software. Results: the team develops its care based on individual and collective care, with integrated and complementary work by professionals. They seek to facilitate treatment initiation and continuation, considering health needs and offering support, understanding and guidance to users and their families. Final Considerations: the multidisciplinary team’s work is based on the psychosocial paradigm, which can qualify care and strengthen the service role in the mental health network.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to construct and validate the Interprofessional Communication Scale in Health. Methods: a psychometric study was carried out on a sample of 360 nurses from a hospital and university center in central Portugal. Reliability was assessed through internal consistency and construct validity through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Results: the Interprofessional Communication in Health Scale, consisting of 27 items, is organized into 3 factors: “Teamwork”, “Conflict management” and “Leadership”, with a total variance of 51.1%. Good internal consistency was obtained, with a Cronbach’s alpha of 0.842, and adequate Goodness of Fit Index model. Conclusions: the Interprofessional Communication in Health Scale presents a factorial structure with adequate validity and reliability results, and may constitute a useful self-report instrument in assessing interprofessional communication in health.

ABSTRACT Objective: To know the perception of professionals about the assistance offered, during the pandemic period, in the care of children and adolescents who use alcohol and other drugs in a detox ward. Method: Descriptive, qualitative research, carried out from September to December 2021, through interviews with the multidisciplinary team of the detoxification ward of a university hospital, systematized and analyzed according to Minayo. Results: 19 professionals participated, mainly from nursing and women. Four thematic units were identified: on the difficulties faced in everyday life; about facilities in care; about the team's adaptation to facilities and/or difficulties; about the team-family, team-patient and patient-family relationship. Conclusion: The ability to reinvent itself was essential for the team to meet the demands of institutionalized children and adolescents.

ABSTRACT Objective: To explore possible associations of a multidisciplinary team approach compared to a non-multidisciplinary team approach on delay and completion of treatment of head and neck cancer patients. Methods: Design: Historical Cohort Study Setting: Tertiary Private Training Hospital Participants: A total of 240 records of head and neck cancer patients from January 2016 and December 2018 were included in the study; 117 underwent a multidisciplinary team approach and 123 underwent a non- multidisciplinary team approach. Results: Only 24.79% of head and neck cancer patients under the multidisciplinary team approach had treatment delays compared to 37.40% under the non-multidisciplinary team approach. The proportion of treatment delays was significantly higher (χ2 = 4.44, p = .035) with the non-multidisciplinary team approach. Comparative treatment completion of 77.78% and 69.11% under the multidisciplinary and non-multidisciplinary team approaches, respectively, were not significantly different (χ2 = 2.31, p = .129). Conclusion: The multidisciplinary approach might be associated with decreased delay in treatment among patients with head and neck cancer compared to the non-multidisciplinary team approach. A possible trend toward better treatment completion rate was also observed, but it did not reach statistical significance

Background: Pharmaceutical care is considered an important pillar for promoting the rational and safe use of medicines. Consequently, it constitutes actions of practices capable of reducing morbidity and mortality induced by pharmacotherapy. On the other hand, pharmaceutical services may face several barriers related to the implementation of these practices. These difficulties are associated with management, availability of an appropriate physical environment, integration with the multidisciplinary team, and acceptance of pharmaceutical interventions by health professionals. Objectives: This study aims to map and summarize the scientific evidence on the experiences and strategies used to implement pharmaceutical services in hospital geriatric units. Methods: The scoping review will be based on three electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, and Web of Science). Studies that met the inclusion criteria and are published by December 2022 will be selected. The screening, eligibility, extraction, and assessment of studies will be carried out by two independent researchers. Experimental and observational studies will be eligible for inclusion. Discussion: The experiences of incorporating pharmaceutical care into geriatric hospital units need to be better disseminated. Our review could support the performance of pharmaceutical care in other geriatric wards and has the potential to be a reference for multidisciplinary training. In addition, the study is related to the global challenge of the World Alliance for Patient Safety as it is a survey that will demonstrate strategies for safety in the use of medicines.

Introducción. En este artículo se presenta una reflexión sobre la necesidad de tener una visión holística en la problemática de la prematurez, para que los equipos del área de salud puedan tener una comprensión de la multiplicidad de factores presentes en el parto prematuro, y sus consecuencias para el menor, la madre, los familiares y el personal de salud involucrado. Tema de reflexión. El tema se sustenta en dos investigaciones realizadas con las madres, los padres y los niños beneficiarios del Programa Madre Canguro en un hospital del Estado, en dos momentos, 2012 y 2014, con algunos de los autores del presente artículo. Conclusiones. Además de la revisión de la literatura científica relacionada con el tema y la problemática, se concluye que, bajo una mirada holística, se comprende de manera integral la problemática y se propicia una mejor comunicación con los padres; con el equipo de la atención en salud, se logra un manejo transdisciplinario, superando los objetos de estudios aislados. Se da así un abordaje integrador y significativo en la cotidianidad de cada actor, desde la piel, con el Programa Madre Canguro, hasta la racionalidad de la ciencia. Introduction. This article presents a reflection on the need for a holistic view of the problem of premature births, so that healthcare teams can understand the multiplicity of factors present in premature births, and its consequences for the minor, the mother, the family members, and the healthcare staff involved. Topic of reflection. The topic is based on two investigations carried out with mothers, fathers, and children’s beneficiaries of the Mother Kangaroo Program in a State hospital, at two moments, 2012 and 2014, with some of the authors of this article. Conclusions. In addition to the review of the scientific literature related to the topic and the problem, it is concluded that, under a holistic view, the problem is understood in a comprehensive way and better communication with the parents is encouraged. With the healthcare team, cross-disciplinary handling is achieved, overcoming the objects of isolated studies. As such, there is an integrative and significant approach in the daily life of each actor, from the skin, with the Mother Kangaroo Program, to the rationality of science. Introdução. Este artigo apresenta uma reflexão sobre a necessidade de se ter uma visão holística da problemática da prematuridade, para que as equipes da área da saúde possam ter uma compreensão da multiplicidade de fatores presentes no parto prematuro, e suas consequências para a criança, a mãe, os familiares e o pessoal de saúde envolvido. Tópico de reflexão. O tema é baseado em duas pesquisas realizadas com mães, pais e filhos beneficiários do Programa Mãe Canguru em um hospital estadual, em dois momentos, 2012 e 2014, com alguns dos autores deste artigo. Conclusões. Além da revisão da literatura científica relacionada ao tópico e ao problema, conclui-se que, sob uma visão holística, o problema é plenamente compreendido e incentiva-se uma melhor comunicação com os pais; com a equipe de saúde, consegue-se uma gestão transdisciplinar, superando os objetos de estudos isolados. Isto proporciona uma abordagem integradora e significativa no cotidiano de cada ator, desde a pele, com o Programa Mãe Canguru, até a racionalidade da ciência.

This was a case–control study in which teams used a customized TeamSTEPPS protocol (n=34) or not (n=31) for cardiopulmonary arrest training in children using high-fidelity simulation. All participants answered a sociodemographic and satisfaction questionnaire and underwent theory and practice pre- and posttesting. The survey data were collected in 2019 and analyzed using ?2, Mann–Whitney, ?, and Wilcoxon tests. p< 0.05 was considered significant.Results: Intervention and control groups achieved better scores in theory posttesting (p< 0.001 and p=0.049), but there was no difference between them in pre- (p=0.291) and posttesting (p=0.397). In the checklist of the practice test, all groups obtained their best outcomes in posttesting and the intervention group achieved higher scores (p< 0.001). All groups increased the number of teamwork events and reduced the time span to perform resuscitation first steps (p< 0.001) in posttesting.Conclusion: The use of teamwork training based on a customized TeamSTEPPS protocol improved performance in team behavior and group technical achievement.
