Through the example of the German language, the paper analyzes a special type of Catholic liturgical text – the Priestly Prayer during the Liturgy of Hours (oration) on the Feasts of the Doctors of the Church. The study views the prayer as a type of text and describes its socio cultural specificity. The present article analyzes the prayer on the Feasts of the Doctors of the Church for lexical grammatical models (addressings, predications, pleadings and conclusions) and the most typical compositional, grammatical, and lexical features and stylistic devices (intertextual borrowings, metaphors, metonymies, antithesis, and syntactic parallelism); and traces how they create the originality of this type of prayers.

The paper examines Christmas orations delivered by Gavrilo Stefanović Venclović to Komoran congregation from 1739 to 1743, the records of which are to be found in the anthology of orations, entitled Slova izbrana (1743). Particular attention has been paid to the thematic framework and to defining thematic layers, but in their correlation. In addition to that, the integral part of the analysis is identifying the Church Fathers' notional concepts as patterns to orations by Venclović.

In A Glossary of Contemporary Literary Theory, Jeremy Hawthorn refers to Cultural Materialism as an "umbrella term" that allows itself the opulence to utilise a wide range of tools and theories from many different disciplines. This allows us to justify the nature of both commonly acknowledged and abstruse socio-cultural episteme and discourse, one of the most prominent of which is the issue of power and power relations.This paper, which was originally part of a larger body of work on Cultural Materialism, tries to draw upon a few different theories to examine the confrontational relationship that exists between the two prominent characters of Shakespeare's (1953) Julius Caesar (namely Antony and Brutus), as represented by the duel-like orations of the two characters. The main goal of the paper is to demonstrate how Antony is able to manipulate the words of Brutus against him and thus succeed in captivating the crowd.The theoretical discussions drawn upon in this article will include Austin's (1999) ideas on language as action, Bourdieu's (1999) argument of dialogue as contest and Hutchby's (1999) findings on turn-taking strategies. This paper will also incorporate Paul Grice's Cooperative Principle, introduced in his "Logic and Conversation" (1999). This principle argues that the flouting of any of Grice's four maxims by the characters is meaningful and effective because it introduces an "implicature" in the political and social context in which the pieces of discourse take place.

During the 1630s Vincent de Paul promised Louise de Marillac that he “would send for the painter” who would create a pious image for the Daughters of Charity. The print, titled The Lord of Charity, was drawn by Charles Le Brun, engraved by Pierre Daret and printed in 1640 by Antoine Hérault, who was close to the noble women of the Vincentian congregation. It represents Christ standing on a cloud on which is inscribed “For Christ’s love compels us. Cor. 2, 5”. His presence is protecting the Daughters of Charity, who are placed in the background, tending to the sick in a hospital. Widely disseminated within the community and copied on many occasions by its members, the engraving was designed to spiritually educate the “country girls” who had committed themselves to Vincent de Paul as “servants of the poor”.
