Abstract Low organic matter content is one of the main constraints in arid and semiarid regions. This constraint and its negative influences on soils and plant growth may be alleviated by biochar (BC). Furthermore, improving soil physical and hydraulic attributes by application of biochar has received increased attention. Therefore, in the present study, the effects of sugarcane bagasse-derived biochar on the structural stability, water availability, and pore-size distribution (PSD) of three texturally different calcareous soils collected from different agro-climatologically regions were examined during a long-term experiment. Low and high-temperature biochars, produced in a muffle furnace by the traditional slow pyrolysis method at 300 °C (BC300) and 600 °C (BC600) were evaluated. Pots (15 kg) were filled with three different silty-clay Inceptisols (SCInc), silty-clay-loam Alfisols (SCLAlf), and loam Aridisols (LArid) soils mixed with 0 (control), 1, 2, and 3 w/w% of BC300 and BC600 during 540 days of incubation. Abstract Introduction Clinical dishonesty is one of the components of academic dishonesty that deals with the unprofessional behavior of students in hospital and clinic environments (medical students, nursing students, etc.). Psychological distress and low moral intelligence among students can be known as predisposing factors in performing dishonest clinical behaviors. The present research addresses a gap in the scientific literature by investigating dishonest behavior among medical students. Methods This cross-sectional study examined medical students’ clinical dishonesty, psychological distress, and moral intelligence. Rafati et al.‘s questionnaire was used to investigate clinical dishonesty, Kessler’s Psychological Distress Questionnaire (K6) was used for psychological distress, and Lenik and Keil’s (2005) questionnaire was used to determine moral intelligence. Cochran’s formula was used to calculate the sample size and the simple random sample (SRS) method was used for sampling. Data were statistically analyzed in SPSS version 27 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, United States). a P-value less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results 317 medical students were included in this study, of which 176 (55.5%) were male and 141 (44.5%) were female. Abstract Background Evidence-based medicine is defined as searching for medical information, reviewing and comparing it to each patient’s situation, and then judging the optimal decision. We aimed to measure the psychometric properties of the Evidence-Based Performance Profile (EBP2) Questionnaire among the students of health-related fields at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2021. The EBP2 questionnaire, which includes 74 five-Likert-scale items, was translated into the Persian language using the forward-backward translation method. A panel of five experts approved the face, content, and structural validity of the questionnaire. The Cronbach’s alpha and McDonald’s Omega coefficients were utilized to assess the questionnaire’s internal consistency. Furthermore, both confirmatory and exploratory factor analyses were used to assess the questionnaire’s construct validity. SPSS software version 25 and LISREL software version 8.8 were used for statistical analysis. Results Overall, 339 students participated in this study. The cultural adaptability, linguistic equivalence, and content validity of the Persian version of the EBP2 questionnaire were approved by a five-member team of medical experts. In addition, the results showed excellent internal consistency of the Persian version of the EBP2 questionnaire (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.962, McDonald’s Omega (ML) = 0.963). Moreover, all domains had acceptable reliability (> 0.7), except the Practice domain which had a marginally acceptable Cronbach’s alpha coefficient equal to 0.686. Exploratory factor analysis discovered six domains for the questionnaire. Moreover, the confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated that all indices except the comparative fit index (CFI) and adjusted goodness of fit (AGFI) confirmed the validity of the EBP2 questionnaire. Conclusion The study’s findings indicate that the Persian translated of the EBP2 questionnaire exhibited satisfactory validity and reliability for assessing students’ evidence-based performance in health-related fields.

Abstract Background The educational environment plays a critical role in shaping learners’ perceptions and experiences in medical education. Evaluating and enhancing the quality of this environment is essential for the continuous improvement of medical training programs. The Scan of the Postgraduate Educational Environment Domains (SPEED) is a concise instrument that assesses three domains of the educational environment. This study aimed to translate the SPEED questionnaire into Persian and evaluate its validity and reliability in the context of postgraduate. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted with 200 first and second-year medical residents. The Persian translation of the SPEED questionnaire was assessed for content validity, and confirmatory factor analysis was performed to evaluate its structural validity. Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was calculated to assess internal consistency reliability. Results The Persian-translated SPEED questionnaire demonstrated satisfactory content validity, with all items exceeding the minimum acceptable values for content validity ratio and index. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated an acceptable fit for the 3-dimensional structure of the SPEED instrument. Internal consistency reliability analysis showed high reliability for the content, atmosphere, and organization domains. Conclusion The Persian-translated version of the SPEED questionnaire is a valid and reliable tool for assessing the domains of the educational environment in postgraduate medical education.

Abstract Lung ischemia-reperfusion injury (LIRI) causes oxidative stress, inflammation, and immune system activation. The Nrf2/Keap1/HO-1 pathway is important in cellular defense against these effects. Quercetin, a flavonoid with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties, has been investigated. Our aim in this study was to investigate the effect of quercetin on preventing lung ischemia-reperfusion injury and the role of the Nrf2/Keap1/HO-1 pathway. Sixty-four male Wistar rats were divided into four distinct groups(n = 16). Sham, lung ischemia-reperfusion (LIR), Saline + LIR, Quercetin + LIR (30 mg/kg i.p for a week before LIR). LIR groups were subjected to 60 min of ischemia (left pulmonary artery, vein, and bronchus) and 120 min of reperfusion. Our assessment encompassed a comprehensive analysis of various factors, including the evaluation of expression Nrf2, Keap1, and Heme Oxygenase-1 (HO-1) levels and NF-κB protein. Furthermore, we examined markers related to inflammation (interleukin-1β and tumor necrosis factor alpha), oxidative stress (malondialdehyde, total oxidant status, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, total antioxidant capacity), lung edema (Wet/dry lung weight ratio and total protein concentration), apoptosis (Bax and Bcl2 protein), and histopathological alterations (intra-alveolar edema, alveolar hemorrhage, and neutrophil infiltration). Our results show that ischemia-reperfusion results in heightened inflammation, oxidative stress, apoptosis, lung edema, and histopathological damage. Quercetin showed preventive effects by reducing these markers, acting through modulation of the Nrf2/Keap1 pathway and inhibiting the NF-κB pathway. This anti-inflammatory effect, complementary to the antioxidant effects of quercetin, provides a multifaceted approach to cell protection that is important for developing therapeutic strategies against ischemia-reperfusion injury and could be helpful in preventive strategies against ischemia-reperfusion.

Abstract Background This study aimed to examine the status of performance indicators in hospitals affiliated with Qazvin University of Medical Sciences (QUMS) before and after the implementation of the Health Transformation Plan (HTP). Methods This longitudinal descriptive-analytical study was conducted utilizing hospital data. The study collected data using a checklist that included both general characteristics of the participating hospitals and performance indicators such as “the number of outpatient visits,” “the number of paraclinical patients,” “the number of surgeries,” and “the number of inpatients” on a monthly basis for 2012–2019. The intervention examined in this study was the implementation of the HTP in May 2014. The data collected was analyzed using interrupted time series and STATA statistical software version 15. Results The study examined seven hospitals affiliated with QUMS, including general, trauma, pediatric, gynecology, and psychiatry hospitals. The findings indicated a significant increase in outpatient visits, paraclinical patients, and inpatients in the first month after the intervention. Introduction: Treatment of municipal wastewater is essential to remove bacteria. This study is designed to evaluate the efficacy of a wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) for the removal of bacteria and using for irrigation or discharge in the Caspian Sea according to the World Health Organization (WHO) regulations. Materials and Methods: A total of 105 samples were collected from 7 stations, including the inlet and the outlet of the WWTP in Bandargaz City (Iran), the intersection point of wastewater effluent with Caspian Sea (Gorgan Bay), and a radius of 200 meters in three directions east, west, and north of the intersection point of wastewater in Gorgan Bay. The multiple-tube fermentation technique was used to enumerate bacteria, and results were expressed as the Most Probable Number (MPN) per 100 ml. Results: Bacteriological analysis exhibited that the concentration of total coliform, fecal coliform, fecal streptococci, and Clostridium perfringens were 1.38 ×1010, 5.57 × 107, 5.53 × 109, 1.26 × 109 in inlet, and 1.38 × 1010 , 5.57 × 107, 5.53 × 109 , 1.26 × 109 in outlet of WWTP, respectively. Conclusion: The aeration lagoon has a low performance in bacteria population removal, which may be due to the climate condition of this region (few sunny days and many cloudy and rainy days). This effluent was not generally acceptable for discharge in the environment and reuse. Therefore, it is essential to modify the disinfection process to keep the concentration of bacteria under control. Additionally, continuous monitoring is necessary to control the quality of wastewater before discharge into the environment or reuse.

In this investigation, two passes Constrained Groove Pressed (CGPed) Al1050 sheets went through Friction Stir Welding (FSW) by adding nano-sized Al2O3 particles. Then, the microstructure and mechanical properties of the welded joints, undergone various pass numbers and rotational to traverse speed (ω/ν) ratios, were presented. Findings showed all joints were fractured from the SZ, although HAZ softening happened due to grain growth in this region. The presence of the Al2O3 particles in the stir zone led to a fine and equiaxed grain structure, resulting from continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX) during the high-temperature welding process. This grain refinement contributed to an improvement in the mechanical properties of the joints, such as strength and microhardness. Employing two different ω/ν ratios resulted in a variety of thermal cycles during the welding procedure such that the peak temperature in the ω/ν of 70 and 25 r/mm reached ∼423 °C and ∼285 °C, respectively. Microstructure studies via optical observation and EBSD analysis illustrated that employing a higher ω/ν ratio and weld pass number resulted in more uniform particle distribution in the stir zone thanks to facilitating materials flow and incorporation during FSW. As a result, the three passes FSWed sample at the higher ω/ν ratio of 70 r/mm showed the most homogeneous particle distribution and finest grain structure in the SZ. This microstructure evolution was in reliable agreement with the mechanical performance of the joints. The three passes FSWed sample at the higher ω/ν ratio of 70 r/mm demonstrated the highest weld strength, microhardness, and %elongation compared to other FSWed joints. This sample showed an ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of ∼97 MPa and a %elongation of ∼16%, and its mean microhardness value had a ∼3.5% increase compared to the CGPed base metal. Conversely, the one pass FSWed sample at the lower ω/ν ratio of 25 r/mm represented the weakest mechanical properties due to cavities, defects, and agglomerated Al2O3 nanoparticles. The presence of nanoparticles was a decisive factor in microstructural evolution during the welding, thereby increasing the mechanical quality of the joints dependent upon their uniform dispersion, obtained by increasing the pass number and ω/ν ratio.

Abstract The eyes are widely regarded as the mirror of the soul, providing reliable nonverbal information about drives, feelings, and intentions of others. However, it is unclear how accurate emotion recognition is when only the eyes are visible and whether inferring of emotions is altered across healthy adulthood. To fill this gap, the present piece of research was directed at comparing the ability to infer basic emotions in two groups of typically developing females that differed in age. We set a focus on females seeking group homogeneity. In a face-to-face study, in a two-alternative forced choice paradigm (2AFC), participants had to indicate emotions for faces covered by masks. The outcome reveals that although the recognition pattern is similar in both groups, inferring sadness in the eyes substantially improves with age. Inference of sadness is not only more accurate and less variable in older participants, but also positively correlates with age from early through mid-adulthood. Moreover, reading sadness (and anger) is more challenging in the eyes of male posers. A possible impact of poser gender and cultural background, both in expressing and inferring sadness in the eyes, is highlighted.

Abstract Background Chronic liver disease (CLD) in children, often leads to cirrhosis and end-stage liver disease (ESLD). CLD poses significant challenges in management and prognosis. Assessing body composition, including sarcopenia, is increasingly recognized as important in understanding outcomes in this population. Methods We conducted a prospective observational study, involving children aged 2 to 18 years with ESLD awaiting liver transplantation. Socio-demographic, clinical, and laboratory data were collected, and body composition was assessed using Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). Sarcopenia was defined using age-specific cut-off points for appendicular skeletal muscle mass (aSMM) and fat-free mass (FFM). Results The study included 57 children (42.1% girls, 57.9% boys; median age: 10.9 years) with liver cirrhosis. Of them 11 (19.3%) died during the study. The mean duration of living with end-stage liver disease prior to participation was 5.43 years [IQR: 3.32, 8.39]. The most common etiology was biliary atresia (24.6%), followed by cryptogenic (22.8%). Abstract Aim This study compared the effectiveness of several techniques in restoring compromised bonding to recently bleached enamel. Methods Seventy-five healthy bovine incisors were divided into five groups (n = 15). Fifteen teeth (Group 1) remained intact, whereas 60 (Groups 2 to 5) underwent at-home bleaching with 16% carbamide peroxide. The bonding procedures were as follows: Group 1: Bonding of resin composite to unbleached enamel; Group 2: Bonding immediately after bleaching; Group 3: Application of a 10% sodium ascorbate solution for 10 min before bonding; Group 4: Enamel removal to the depth of 0.5 mm; and Group 5: Increased curing time of the bonding agent to 80 instead of 20 s. After 24 h, the specimens were subjected to micro-shear testing, and the failure mode was determined. Results ANOVA revealed a significant difference in bond strength among the groups (P 0.05). Adhesive failure was the most predominant failure type in all groups. The mixed failure occurred with a frequency of 26.7% in groups 3 and 5. The Fisher’s exact test revealed a significant difference in failure modes among the groups (P = 0.047). Conclusions The three experimental procedures used in this study, including the application of 10% sodium ascorbate before bonding, enamel removal to the depth of 0.5 mm, and increasing the curing time of the bonding agent to 80 s, were effective in restoring the compromised bonding to recently bleached enamel.

Introduction: The esophagus and duodenum are rare sites of manifestation for extrapulmonary tuberculosis (TB). Its rarity makes the diagnosis challenging, especially when no other organ is involved, and the endoscopic findings may resemble malignancy. Case Presentation: We report a unique case of a 37-year-old woman who presented with dysphagia secondary to esophageal TB with an endoscopic appearance of a submucosal mass resembling malignancy. Conclusion: Esophageal TB is a rare cause of dysphagia, especially in a western setting. It should always be considered as a potential etiology in patients with dysphagia.

Background: Immediate evaluation and management of brain trauma patients improves disease outcomes and reduces the neurobehavioral consequences of the injury. Emergency nurses are expected to manage patients based on the best available evidence.Aim: The present study was performed with aim to develop and implement an evidence-based care package for the management of brain trauma patients.Method: This semi-experimental study was conducted on 60 nurses in the emergency departments from November 2022 to May 2023. The subjects were randomly assigned to intervention (n=30) and control (n=30) groups. The data collection tool included a demographic questionnaire and a brain trauma management checklist. The intervention included 4 training workshops based on the comprehensive evidence-based care package during two weeks. Background. The value of services in healthcare institutions such as hospitals is created by leveraging the knowledge, skills, and experiences of their healthcare staff. Therefore, knowledge transfer is necessary to empower the employees in the hospital. Since few studies have explored the impact of knowledge transfer on the empowerment of hospital employees, this study aimed to investigate the impact of knowledge transfer and its components on employees' empowerment in Qazvin teaching hospitals. Methods. In this descriptive-analytic and cross-sectional study, 330 teaching hospital staff members of Qazvin University of Medical Sciences were investigated between February 2020 and May 2020. The required data were collected using the Knowledge Transfer Questionnaire (De-Castro, et al., 2008) and the Empowerment Questionnaire (Spreitzer, 1992). The data were analyzed using the correlation method and structural equation analysis (SEM) as well as using SPSS-22 and AMOS software. Results. There was a direct relationship between the dimensions of knowledge transfer and personnel empowerment, and all examined dimensions were above average. Moreover, the dimensions of knowledge transfer also had a significant impact on personnel empowerment. Regarding the fit of the model, the values of GFI, CFI, and NFI indices were obtained above 0.90. In addition, the RMSEA index was 0.074, which indicated the good fit of the model. Conclusion. In summary, the staff's empowerment level was enhanced through the knowledge transfer. Therefore, it was recommended that the hospital managers should improve the level of workers' empowerment by implementing effective strategies, such as providing training courses for the employees.

Background: High-dose radiation altering the genetic material in patients’ bone marrow cells can lead to hematopoietic radiation syndrome. Accordingly, the presence of radiation protections agents is critical to preventing these adverse effects.Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the radioprotection of the exclusive or combination effect of resveratrol and crocin extracts at various concentrations on irradiated human lymphocytes.Material and Methods: In this experimental study, the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) method was used to evaluate the cell viability in pre-treatment with resveratrol, crocin, or a combination of both, using a concentration range of 5 to 4800 μM / ml in 24 h. The chromosomal aberration test was employed to determine the aberration frequency in 48 h. This study was performed on human peripheral blood lymphocytes treated with 2 Gy radiation and reliability of measurements performed by the triplicate repeat.Results: MTT results showed that the groups treated with either resveratrol or crocin at concentrations of 5 to 4800 µM had no significant reduction in cell viability. The cytogenetic analysis of irradiated lymphocytes with 2 Gy X-rays revealed a reduction in the frequency of dicentric chromosomes in all treated groups in contrast with the control group. The most significant reduction occurred in those treated with a single agent at the concentration of 100 µM and a combined drug at the concentration of 50 µM. Conclusion: The combination of resveratrol and crocin is considered a potential radioprotector and prophylactic for patients before radiation therapy.

Background: Spiritual health is part of the general concept of child health. Considering the effects of spiritual health on the growth and development of children, it is necessary to understand the concept of spiritual health and its dimensions in children. Accordingly, this study explains the dimensions of children’s spiritual health. Methods: This qualitative study was conducted using conventional content analysis. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews with 17 children and 9 researchers and specialists in the field of children’s mental health. Interviews were conducted with an average duration of 30 min. Results: Dimensions of children’s spiritual health with two themes of balanced relationship in 4 categories of relationship with God, relationship with self, relationship with others, and relationship with the environment, and the theme of relationship transcendence in 2 categories of transcendent behaviors and love of God were explained. Conclusion: Regardless of other developmental principles that follow the rule of maturity, the balanced relationship of spiritual health and the relationship transcendence of spiritual health in children did not follow the rule of maturity, and due to the innateness of the themes of balanced relationship and relationship transcendence of spiritual health. These characteristics have existed in children since childhood, regardless of any religious-spiritual measures within the family, and their spiritual health potential has been realized from their potential state.

Abstract Several factors, such as pruning and phytohormones, have demonstrated an influence on both the quantity and quality in the bell pepper. A factorial experiment using a completely randomized design was conducted on the Lumos yellow bell in a greenhouse. Treatments were the fruit pruning (0, 10, and 30%) and foliar application of phytohormones auxin (AUX) and gibberellic acid (GA3) at concentrations of 10 µM AUX, 10 µM GA3, 10 µM AUX + 10 µM GA3+, and 20 µM AUX + 10 µM GA3 along with controls. The plants were sprayed with phytohormones in four growth stages (1: flowering stage when 50% of the flowers were on the plant, 2: fruiting stage when 50% of the fruits were the size of peas, 3: fruit growth stage when 50% of the fruits had reached 50% of their growth, and 4: ripening stage when 50% of the fruits were at color break). The results of the present investigation showed that pruning rate of 30% yielded the highest flesh thickness and vitamin C content, decreased seed count and hastened fruit ripening. The use of GA3 along with AUX has been observed to augment diverse fruit quality characteristics. According to the results, the application of 10% pruning in combination with 20 µM AUX and 10 µM GA3 demonstrated the most significant levels of carotenoids, chlorophyll, and fruit length. The experimental group subjected to the combined treatment of 30% pruning and 10 µM AUX + 10 µM GA3 showed the most noteworthy levels of vitamin C, fruit weight, and fruit thickness. The groups that received the 10 µM GA3 and 20 µM AUX + 10 µM GA3 treatments exhibited the most favorable fruit flavor. According to the research results, the implementation of hormonal treatments 10 µM AUX and 10 µM AUX + 10 µM GA3 in combination with a 30% pruning strategy resulted in the most advantageous yield of bell peppers.

Statement of the Problem: Paxillin (PXN) is one of the proteins involved in cell adhesion. PXN and integrins constitute a key site for the focal adhesion between the cell and extracellular matrix. Several studies have shown that PXN is a factor in tumor formation, progression, invasion, and metastasis.Purpose: This study evaluated PXN expression in four types of odontogenic lesions with different aggressive behaviors.Materials and Method: In this retrospective cross-sectional study, PXN expression was immunohistochemically assessed in 68 paraffin-embedded tissue samples from patients with the confirmed diagnosis of four types of odontogenic lesions, including 14 dentigerous cysts (DC), 20 odontogenic keratocyst (OKC), 16 unicystic ameloblastoma, and 18 solid ameloblastoma. The PXN expression in these samples were scored based on the percentage and intensity of immunoreactivity, and compared among the groups by Chi-square test.Results: The PXN marker was detected in the cytoplasm of tumor cells (unicystic and solid ameloblastoma) and the epithelial layer of cysts (DC and OKC). The intensively stained marker of PXN was observed in 9 cases (64.3%) of the DC, 14 cases (70%) of OKC, 12 cases (75%) of unicystic ameloblastoma, and 13 cases (72.2%) of solid ameloblastoma. However, there was not statistical difference of PXN protein expression between DC and OKC (p Value = 0.51) and unicystic and solid ameloblastoma (p = 0.58), also the same was true for cysts and tumors (p = 0.37).Conclusion: The expression of PXN is not related to the biological behaviors of odontogenic lesions.

In this research, the Omicron variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus was simulated and exposed to electron radiation with up to 20 keV energy. Absorbed energy was measured for spike protein, nucleocapsid protein, and envelope of the virus. Simulations were performed by Geant4-DNA in a water environment at temperature of 20 °C and pressure of 1 atm. Since the viral RNA is kept inside the nucleocapsid protein, damage to this area could destroy the viral RNA strand and create an inactive virus. Our findings showed that electron beams with an energy of 2.5 keV could cause a maximum absorption dose and consequently maximum damage to the nucleocapsid and effectively be used for inactivation virus.

ABSTRACT Background The hospital discharge process poses significant safety risks for older patients due to complexities in communication and coordination among stakeholders, leading to potential drug‐related problems post‐discharge. Adopting a person‐centred care (PCC) approach in medication communication by healthcare professionals (HCPs) is crucial to ensure positive health outcomes. This study aimed to explore the practice of PCC in medication communication between older patients and HCPs during the hospital discharge process. Methods We conducted a qualitative study using non‐participatory direct observations of patient–HCP consultations during hospital discharge, followed by semi‐structured interviews with observed patients and, when applicable, their informal caregivers. Data collection occurred from October 2020 to May 2021 at two Swedish hospitals. We gathered data using an observational form and audio‐recorded all consultations and interviews. The data were analysed thematically using the systematic text condensation method. Results Twenty patients were included (median age: 81 years [range: 65–94]; 9 female) in observations and 13 of them participated in interviews. Two patients were accompanied by an informal caregiver during the interviews. Three main themes were identified: (1) The impact of traditional authoritarian structures, depicts power dynamics between patients and their HCPs, showing how traditional structures influence the practice of PCC in medication communication during hospital discharge; (2) Consultation timing and mode not on patients' terms, describes suboptimal times and settings for consultations, along with the use of complex language that hinders effective communication; and (3) Discrepancy in expectations of self‐care ability, illustrates a mismatch between the self‐care guidance provided by HCPs during hospital discharge and the actual needs and preferences of patients and informal caregivers. Conclusion Medication communication between older patients and HCPs during hospital discharge is frequently inconsistent with the practice of PCC. Not only must HCPs improve their communication strategies, but patients and their informal caregivers should also be better prepared for discharge communication and encouraged to participate in their care. This involvement would give them relevant knowledge and tailor communication to their individual needs, preventing problems in managing their medications after discharge. Background: The radial approach is now recommended as the default strategy in diagnostic coronary angiography and percutaneous coronary intervention. Radial artery occlusion (RAO) is the most common complication that limits subsequent angiographic procedures through this access. Background: Childbirth constitutes a significant milestone in a woman's life, influencing both her physical and mental well-being as well as her relationship with the child. Employing a birth plan (BP) can contribute positively to obstetric outcomes, enhancing the overall birthing experience for women. BPs are not universally embraced in many countries, and there is limited research on women's experiences with BP in Iran. This study seeks to explore and understand the perspectives of women who have utilized a BP during their delivery. Methods: This qualitative study included 14 women who had BP and experienced delivery. Data was collected through in-depth, semi-structured individual interviews. The sample selection followed a purposive approach, and data analysis utilized content analysis with a conventional approach facilitated by MAXQDA software version 2020. Results: The examination of pertinent data concerning women's experiences identified five key themes: preparation, participation, support, emotional well-being, and unmet expectations. Conclusions: This study's findings indicate that BPs enhance the overall birthing experience, suggesting their potential utility in improving the quality of obstetric care. Nevertheless, additional studies are essential to validate these results on a broader scale and facilitate the nationwide implementation of BPs.

In this study, the effectiveness of preharvest fertigation using calcium thiosulfate (CaTS) and potassium thiosulfate (KTS) to enhance the shelf life of bell peppers was investigated. The nutrient solution was enriched with KTS (either 0.26 or 0.53 mM of a commercial formulation) or CaTS (0.66 mM of a commercial formulation), and compared to a commercial source-based nutrient solution as a control. Fruit quality attributes and the activity of key enzymes involved in oxidative stress defense, enzymatic browning, cell wall degradation, and membrane lipid degradation were investigated for 30 days of storage. Results showed that CaTS and KTS treatments preserved protein (a secondary energy reserve) and proline content, and enhanced the fruit's PSII activity throughout storage. Despite increased phenylalanine ammonia-lyase activity, CaTS and KTS fertigation did not affect polyphenol oxidase activity. CaTS and KTS fertigation increased the activity of five (out of seven) antioxidant enzymes and impaired the activity of one (out of two) cell wall hydrolytic enzyme. CaTS was the most effective treatment, followed by KTS (0.53 mM), in causing these promotive effects. In conclusion, preharvest application of CaTS (0.66 mM) and KTS (0.53 mM) prolonged the postharvest life and delayed senescence of bell pepper fruits by preserving fruit weight, firmness, and photosynthetic performance, as well as enhancing the antioxidant defense system.

Thoracic endovascular repair (TEVAR) is a valuable alternative to open surgical repair for aortic aneurysms, offering several benefits. However, one potential complication that demands attention is endoleak. This case report highlights a unique occurrence of type 2 endoleak, typically associated with aortic aneurysms treated by TEVAR, originating from an undiagnosed patent ductus arteriosus (PDA). The patient, a 68-year-old woman, underwent TEVAR for an aortic aneurysm complicated by underlying lung disease and pulmonary artery hypertension. During the procedure, an unexpected shunt between the aorta and the pulmonary artery was identified and subsequently revealed to be an undiagnosed PDA. Remarkably, the decision was made to continue with TEVAR while simultaneously deploying a stent graft to close the PDA. This case underscores the significance of comprehensive preprocedural aortic assessment and careful consideration of PDA closure to prevent type 2 endoleak in TEVAR, reinforcing the importance of thorough evaluation before such procedures.

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) techniques have been ascertained useful in the analysis and description of infectious areas in radiological images promptly. Our aim in this study was to design a web-based application for detecting and labeling infected tissues on CT (computed tomography) lung images of patients based on the deep learning (DL) method as a type of AI. Materials and Methods: The U-Net architecture, one of the DL networks, is used as a hybrid model with pre-trained densely connected convolutional network 121 (DenseNet121) architecture for the segmentation process. The proposed model was constructed on 1031 persons' CT-scan images from Ibn Sina Hospital of Iran in 2021 and some publicly available datasets. The network was trained using 6000 slices, validated on 1000 slices images, and tested against the 150 slices. Accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and area under the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) curve (AUC) were calculated to evaluate model performance. Results: The results indicate the acceptable ability of the U-Net-DenseNet121 model in detecting COVID-19 abnormality (accuracy = 0.88 and AUC = 0.96 for thresholds of 0.13 and accuracy = 0.88 and AUC = 0.90 for thresholds of 0.2). Based on this model, we developed the“Imaging-Tech” web-based application for use at hospitals and clinics to make our project's output more practical and attractive in the market. Conclusion: We designed a DL-based model for the segmentation of COVID-19 CT scan images and, based on this model, constructed a web-based application that, according to the results, is a reliable detector for infected tissue in lung CT-scans. The availability of such tools would aid in automating, prioritizing, fastening, and broadening the treatment of COVID-19 patients globally.

Background and purpose: In December 2019, a series of pneumonia cases of unknown origin were reported in Wuhan, China, named by the World Health Organization as COVID-19. The risk factors for developing the disease of COVID-19 are still not well known, but evidence shows that some factors, including respiratory diseases such as tuberculosis, are important risk factors in the disease of COVID-19. It should be noted that tuberculosis, like SARS-COV-2, is mainly transmitted through breathing and affects the lungs. Also, some studies show that infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis causes more rapid and severe pneumonia symptoms in COVID-19 and is the main cause of death due to severe disease. Considering that the disease of COVID-19 is a newly emerging pandemic and the risk factors related to its incidence and severity are still being investigated and considering that tuberculosis is a curable infectious disease that can affect other respiratory diseases. This study was conducted to investigate the probable and definite frequency of COVID-19 (COVID-19) in the first and second peaks of the coronavirus pandemic among patients with a history of tuberculosis. Materials and methods: This study was descriptive-cross-sectional and the study population included patients with a history of tuberculosis whose diagnosis date was between 2015 and 2020. The number of these samples was equal to 1532. The sampling method was census. The time of investigation in terms of contracting COVID-19 was after the first peak and during and after the second peak of Corona (from the second half of May 2019 to November 2019). The data collection tool included a checklist containing demographic variables and clinical symptoms related to COVID-19. The method of collecting information was in the form of telephone interviews and document review. Data collection was done by trained interviewers. For this purpose, the questioners were first given the necessary training on how to complete the checklist. Data entry was done in Excel software and transferred to SPSS V.16 software for analysis. The description of the variables is presented in terms of number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and median. A chi-square test was conducted to compare the grouped variables. Results: In this study, the prevalence of probable and definite cases of COVID-19 among patients with a history of tuberculosis was reported as 5.5% (85 people), and suspected, probable and definite cases were reported as 15.6% (239 people). Also, there was no correlation between age groups, gender, place of residence, type of tuberculosis, marriage, diabetes, kidney disease dialysis, immunodeficiency,, and liver disease with the prevalence of COVID-19 among patients with a history of tuberculosis. It should be noted that in this group of patients, heart disease, lung disease, cancer, chemotherapy, high blood pressure, and brain and nerve diseases were related to the spread of COVID-19. Also, the highest frequency of suspected, probable, and definite COVID among patients with a history of tuberculosis was diagnosed respectively in 2019 with 38.5% (25 out of 65 cases with a history of tuberculosis), in 2014 with 26.7% (63 out of 236 cases with a history of tuberculosis) and 20.8% (58 people out of 279 cases with a history of tuberculosis) in 2018. Conclusion: Due to the significant difference in the prevalence of Covid 19 in patients who have not received the flu vaccine, it is necessary to inject the flu vaccine in these patients. Advice to quit smoking in these patients should be a priority. Because no independent study on Covid disease was observed in patients with tuberculosis, further studies in this field are necessary.

Abstract Intra-tumor heterogeneity compromises the clinical value of transcriptomic classifications of colorectal cancer. We investigated the prognostic effect of transcriptomic heterogeneity and the potential for classifications less vulnerable to heterogeneity in a single-hospital series of 1093 tumor samples from 692 patients, including multiregional samples from 98 primary tumors and 35 primary-metastasis sets. We show that intra-tumor heterogeneity of the consensus molecular subtypes (CMS) is frequent and has poor-prognostic associations independently of tumor microenvironment markers. Multiregional transcriptomics uncover cancer cell-intrinsic and low-heterogeneity signals that recapitulate the intrinsic CMSs proposed by single-cell sequencing. Further subclassification identifies congruent CMSs that explain a larger proportion of variation in patient survival than intra-tumor heterogeneity. Plasticity is indicated by discordant intrinsic phenotypes of matched primary and metastatic tumors. We conclude that multiregional sampling reconciles the prognostic power of tumor classifications from single-cell and bulk transcriptomics in the context of intra-tumor heterogeneity, and phenotypic plasticity challenges the reconciliation of primary and metastatic subtypes.

The findings of this research show that with the establishment of the Online Registration System, and the significant issue of the announcement and explicit information of the client and advocate of dismissal or resignation or implementation of the delegated subject, in order to protect the security of the legal relations of the people and reduce legal disputes and remove the shortcomings of the Iranian legal system, the advocate and the client must be immediately informed through electronic notification about dismissal or resignation or withdrawal or any other issue related to the advocacy by improving the legal mechanisms through ADLiran.ir (Sana)Website. IntroductionApplication of agricultural waste composts, in addition to improving soil fertility, has positive effects on the quality of agricultural products and the environment by reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and recycling agricultural waste. Spinach (Spinacea oleracea L.) is a suitable plant for studying the effects of composts and chemical fertilizers due to some physiological characteristics such as high antioxidant activity and oxalic acid, significant amount of mineral compounds and vitamin C, and nitrate accumulation. Despite relatively extensive studies on the effect of different composts on plants, no study has been conducted so far to investigate the effect of grape pomace (GP) composts on plants in Iran. Therefore, the objectives of the present study were: 1- to investigate the effect of different GP composts on yield, nutrient elements, and some physiological parameters of spinach in comparison with two levels of urea fertilization in a pot experiment in two consecutive growing seasons, and 2- to investigate the relationship between nutrient elements and physiological indicators of spinach based on principal component analysis. Materials and MethodsTo investigate the effects of GP composts on yield, nutrient elements, and physiological parameters of spinach (Persius hybrid), an outdoor pot experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with eight compost treatments, two levels of urea fertilizer (46%), and a control treatment (C0) in three replications and two consecutive growing seasons (spring and fall). Compost treatments included: High grape pomace (HG) (60-63%) with chickpea straw and alfalfa (HG-Ch-A), high GP with chickpea straw and sugar beet pulp (HG-Ch-B), high GP with alfalfa and sugar beet pulp (HG-A-B), high GP combined with chickpea straw, alfalfa, and sugar beet pulp (HG-All); four other compost treatments included low level of grape pomace (LG) (37-42%) combined with other residues/wastes similar to the first four treatments (LG-Ch-A, LG-Ch-B, LG-A-B, and LG-All). Urea fertilizer treatments included: 150 kg per hectare (C150) (two-stage top dressing) and 500 kg per hectare (C500) (three-stage top dressing). Prior to planting, the composts were separately mixed into the soil (sandy loam) at a rate of 2% by weight(. The first crop was grown for 50 days in May 2018 and the second crop was grown for 45 days in September 2018. In both seasons, plant samples were taken in the early morning at the end of the growing season to determine the fresh and oven-dried weight of shoot and root samples, leaf area, nutrient elements, and some physiological indicators. Some of the shoot samples were wrapped in aluminum foil and stored in a freezer (-20 °C) to determine the amount of chlorophyll (type a, type b, and total), carotenoids, total phenol, vitamin C, and antioxidant activity. Oxalic acid, zinc, iron, copper, sodium, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, and nitrate were determined in oven-dried samples. One-way ANOVA was applied separately to spring and fall data, and mean comparisons were made using Duncan's test at the 0.05% level. Principal component analysis was used to determine the relationships between nutrient elements and physiological indicators of spinach. Results and DiscussionThe LG-Ch-A and C500 treatments (in spring cultivation), and the LG-A-B, LG-All, and HG-All treatments (in fall cultivation) had the highest leaf number, leaf area, and yield and were significantly difference from the C0 treatment. The high yield in C500, LG-Ch-A, LG-All, and HG-All treatments was associated with nitrate accumulation in spinach. In both cultivations, there was a significant positive correlation between the amount of P, K, Mg and Zn in spinach and the amount of these elements in the corresponding composts. A synergistic relationship was also observed between P and Mg; P and Zn; and Mg and Zn in spinach. On the other hand, an antagonistic relationship was observed between Ca and Mg in spinach because a high concentration of calcium inhibits magnesium uptake by reducing cell permeability. In both seasons, the chemical fertilizer treatments showed the highest amount of chlorophyll and carotenoids because these compounds increase with increasing nitrogen availability. On the contrary, the amount of antioxidant activity was significantly higher in compost treatments than in chemical treatments. In the spring cultivation, the highest and lowest amount of oxalic acid and oxalic acid/Ca ratio were observed in the LG-Ch-B and HG-All treatments, respectively. Interactions between nutrients and physiological indicators were observed. The uptake of all micronutrients, P, and Mg (in both cultivations) and K (in the fall cultivation) was inhibited by high Ca concentration. With the decrease of micronutrients uptake, an increase in nitrate accumulation may occur because micronutrients are present in the structure of nitrate reducing enzymes. The interdependence between Mg and oxalic acid/Ca (in spring), K and oxalic acid (in fall), and Na and oxalic acid/Ca (in fall) may be related to the role of oxalates in the uptake of mineral ions by plants, since oxalates are usually combined with Na, Mg, Ca, and K in the form of soluble and insoluble salts. ConclusionThe use of urea chemical fertilizer (at two levels) and agricultural waste composts had different effects on the physiological indicators, growth and nutrients in spinach. Spinach grown in soils treated with composts rich in P, K, Mg, and Zn had higher nutritional value. The grouping of treatments by principal component analysis showed that chemical and control treatments were clearly separated from compost treatments with high amount of chlorophyll, carotenoid, nitrate, K, and Zn and low amount of oxalic acid, oxalic acid/Ca ratio, antioxidant activity, phenol, and Na. In general, the use of C500, LG-Ch-A, LG-All and HG-All treatments is not recommended due to nitrate accumulation in spinach.

Background and Aim: Frailty is a challenging syndrome that can lead to injuries, disability, frequent hospitalizations, premature death, and decreased quality of life in old age. This study aimed to assess the frequency of frailty syndrome and its related factors among the elderly population of Kashan city, Iran, in 2020. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 644 elderly individuals in Kashan, Iran, using cluster sampling. The study utilized a health variables questionnaire, the Tilburg Frailty Index (TFI), and the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) as assessment tools. Results: The mean age of the elderly participants was 67.03±6.8 years, with 336 individuals (52.2%) being women. Among the elderly, 213 (33.1%) were identified as having frailty syndrome. A comparison of different dimensions of frailty revealed that the physical dimension scored lowest while the social dimension scored highest. Logistic regression analysis indicated that factors such as age 70 years and older, living alone, presence of underlying diseases, dissatisfaction with living environment, and history of falls were predictive of frailty syndrome among the elderly (P

Abstract Various processes have been yet considered to study the effect of Lorentz-violating terms and different limits have been determined for the magnitude of Lorentz violation coefficients. In this work, we study the effect of Lorentz-violating terms on B-meson production through pair annihilation ( $$e^+e^-\rightarrow q\bar{q}\rightarrow B+Jets$$ e + e - → q q ¯ → B + J e t s ) in two distinct cases correspondent to axial and vectorial nonminimal couplings in QED and determine the corresponding Lorentz violation coefficients. In both cases, significant modifications are seen with respect to the usual relativistic result. Our analytical results for partonic differential cross section, i.e., $$d\sigma (e^+e^-\rightarrow q\bar{q})/d\Omega $$ d σ ( e + e - → q q ¯ ) / d Ω , reveal an anisotropy which implies new constraints on the possible Lorentz-violating terms.

Background & aim: Infertility is a culturally dependent, challenging experience for individuals and families. Understanding characteristics of Iranian infertile couples and effective coping factors can help counselors in selecting appropriate models. This study assesses the role of spiritual health in predicting stress in infertile women through resilience mediating role.Methods: This predictive correlational study was conducted on 105 women at gynecology clinics of Mashhad, Iran in 2021.They were selected through Convenience sampling method. Tools included Spiritual Well Being Scale, Connor & Davidson Resilience Questionnaire and, Newton, Schrard, and Glavas Perceived Infertility Stress. The instrument used were paper and pen, and they were completed by the participants. Pearson correlation coefficient and structural equation modeling were employed to analyze the data using SPSS (version 22) and Smart PLS software (version 3).Results: Findings revealed significant negative and relationships between spiritual health and perceived stress, positive relationships between spiritual health and resilience, and a negative relationship between resilience and perceived stress. Resilience mediated the negative and significant relationship between spiritual health and stress in infertile women. The value of the VAF index was equal to 0.368 and the total effect of spiritual health on perceived stress was equal to -0.732.Conclusion: Spiritual health and resilience effectively reducestress in infertile women. Abstract Background IgG4-related disease is a fibro-inflammatory disorder with an unknown etiology, which can affect multiple organ systems, including the cardiovascular system. While most reported cases of cardiovascular involvement are primarily associated with the aorta, there have been sporadic reports of isolated cardiac involvement. Case presentation This paper presents a documented case of IgG4-related systemic disease with symptoms indicative of restrictive cardiomyopathy. Subsequent Cardiac Magnetic Resonance imaging revealed diffuse myopericardial involvement, characterized by pericardial thickening and enhancement, accompanied by subepicardial and myocardial infiltration. Considering the rarity of cardiac involvement in our case, we conducted a thorough review of the existing literature pertaining to various patterns of cardiac involvement in IgG4-related disease, as well as the diagnostic modalities that can be employed for accurate identification and assessment. Conclusions This case report sheds light on the importance of recognizing and evaluating cardiac manifestations in IgG4-related systemic disease to facilitate timely diagnosis and appropriate management.

Abstract Background Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) is a form of acute kidney injury (AKI) occurring in patients undergoing cardiac catheterization, such as coronary angiography (CAG) or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Although the conventional criterion for CIN detection involves a rise in creatinine levels within 72 h after contrast media injection, several limitations exist in this definition. Up to now, various meta-analyses have been undertaken to assess the accuracy of different biomarkers of CIN prediction. However, the existing body of research lacks a cohesive overview. To address this gap, a comprehensive umbrella review was necessary to consolidate and summarize the outcomes of prior meta-analyses. This umbrella study aimed to offer a current, evidence-based understanding of the prognostic value of biomarkers in predicting CIN. Methods A systematic search of international databases, including PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science, from inception to December 12, 2023, was conducted to identify meta-analyses assessing biomarkers for CIN prediction. Our own meta-analysis was performed by extracting data from the included studies. Sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio, and negative likelihood ratio were assessed using Meta-Disc and CMA softwares. Results Twelve studies were ultimately included in the umbrella review. The results revealed that neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) exhibited the highest area under the curve (AUC), followed by cystatin-C, urinary kidney injury molecule-1 (uKIM-1), and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) with AUCs of 0.91, 0.89, 0.85, and 0.80, respectively. NGAL also demonstrated the highest positive likelihood ratio [effect size (ES): 6.02, 95% CI 3.86–9.40], followed by cystatin-C, uKIM-1, and BNP [ES: 4.35 (95% CI 2.85–6.65), 3.58 (95% CI 2.75–4.66), and 2.85 (95% CI 2.13–3.82), respectively]. uKIM-1 and cystatin-C had the lowest negative likelihood ratio, followed by NGAL and BNP [ES: 0.25 (95% CI 0.17–0.37), ES: 0.25 (95% CI 0.13–0.50), ES: 0.26 (95% CI 0.17–0.41), and ES: 0.39 (0.28–0.53) respectively]. This study aims to evaluate the protective effects of pomegranate seed oil (PSO) on experimental osteoporosis in rats. Twenty-four female Wistar rats were divided into four groups: sham-operated (Sham = 6), Sham with PSO treatment (Sham+PSO = 6), ovariectomized (OVX = 6), and ovariectomized with PSO treatment (OVX+PSO = 6). OVX+PSO and Sham+PSO groups received 0.1 ml of pomegranate juice daily, and OVX and Sham groups received the same amount of paraffin oil. After eight weeks, the femur and tibia bones were removed, and the structure and metabolism of samples were assessed by histological examination. The average thickness of femoral neck trabeculae in group OVX was significantly lower than in groups Sham+PSO and Sham (p < 0.05). Regarding the number of trabeculae in the neck of the femur, a significant difference was observed between groups OVX and Sham+PSO (p < 0.05). Furthermore, trabecular separation in group OVX was significantly more than in the other three groups (p < 0.05). The trabecular separation in group OVX+PSO compared to groups Sham+PSO and Sham was significantly higher (p < 0.05). A histopathologic examination of the upper metaphysis of the tibia indicated that the number of bone trabeculae in Sham+PSO was only statistically significant in the OVX group (p = 0.018). It was also found that the average thickness of bone trabeculae in the OVX+PSO and Sham groups was significantly lower than in the Sham+SO group. The results of the present study suggest that pomegranate seed oil, having estrogenic compounds, can prevent osteoporosis in rats caused by ovariectomy.

Abstract This paper presents a model predictive control (MPC) approach based on the extended disturbance observer (EDOB) for trajectory tracking of a coaxial octorotor unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). First, the system dynamic model is derived using Newton–Euler relations in the presence of time‐varying centre of gravity (COG); then, a two‐loop cascade structure is presented to perform the trajectory tracking task. Both loops are controlled using MPC with feedforward compensation based on the EDOB to improve disturbance rejection abilities. When the mass changes, the moment of inertia and COG are affected. The EDOB simultaneously estimates the effects of time‐varying mass, external disturbances, and parametric uncertainties in six degrees of freedom. After obtaining virtual control inputs using designed controllers, constrained control allocation is used to obtain rotors speed in a valid range. The proposed control scheme is evaluated using simulation. The simulation results show the ability of the developed control strategy in accurate trajectory tracking and stable flight in different conditions and being robust to uncertainty and disturbance.

Background: The parallel and continued improvements in both infertility treatment and the management of malignancycases have brought to the forefront the potential for fertility preservation. Using ovarian follicular resourcescan effectively improve reproductive capacity and prevent infertility. The primary aim of this research was to try togenerate an appropriate in vivo environment for the growth of the mouse follicles. Hence, the possible effects of theovarian parenchyma cell suspension were explored on the growth and maturation of preantral follicles in vitro.Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, ovarian parenchymal cells were mechanically dissociated frompreantral follicles of 12-14 days-old NMRI mice and then divided into 5 experimental groups (G1: Control, G2: Freshfollicle with fresh parenchyma cell suspension, G3: Vitrified-warmed follicle with fresh parenchyma cell suspension,G4: Fresh follicle with frozen-thawed parenchyma cell suspension, and G5: Vitrified-warmed follicle with frozen-thawedparenchyma cell suspension). The diameter of the follicles and immature oocytes, viability, antrum formation,resumption of meiosis, in vitro fertilization (IVF), and Gdf9, Bmp6, and Bmp15 gene expression were examined ondifferent periods.Results: The diameter of the follicles and the oocytes on days 4 and 8, as well as the survival rate of the follicles upto day 12, were significantly higher in G2 and G4 compared to the Ctrl group (G1: 73.66%, G2:87.99%, G3: 82.70%,G4: 94.37%, and G5: 78.59%). Expression of growth marker genes for G3, and G5 groups was significantly higherthan other groups, which indicated the protective effects of parenchyma cell suspension on follicles damaged by vitrificationsolutions.Conclusion: The growth, survival, and maturation of preantral follicles could be enhanced by co-culturing them withovarian parenchyma cells. Further studies are needed to optimize the conditions for a successful parenchyma cellsuspension-induced in vitro maturation (IVM) to occur in infertility clinics.

This research aims to investigate whether smartphone brands have gender from the perspective of Iranian users and examine the relationship between different genders of smartphones and brand equity with mediating role of customer loyalty. This is a quantitative study that uses inferential statistics to evaluate hypotheses. A standardized questionnaire with 26 questions was used as the research instrument. The statistical population consisted of users of the six most widely-used smartphone brands in Iran (Samsung, Apple, Xiaomi, Huawei, Sony and Nokia), who could participate in the online survey through social networks (Instagram, WhatsApp, and Telegram). The simple random probability sampling method involved 472 samples. Smart PLS version 3 and SPSS version 26 were used to analyze the data. The research was carried out from June 2022 to February 2023. The results show that smartphones have gender from the perspective of Iranian users. Brand femininity and masculinity correlate significantly and positively with customer loyalty to smartphones. Customer loyalty has a significant and positive relationship with brand equity in smartphones. Both brand femininity and masculinity increase brand equity through customer loyalty, with brand femininity having a more significant impact on brand equity than brand masculinity. The biological gender of smartphone users has no relationship with customer loyalty and does not affect their perception of brand femininity and masculinity.

The city of Gotvand in Iran is located in a hot and semi-arid region, where it can be challenging to grow crops. Abiotic stresses such as drought and heat can affect crop productivity during both vegetative and reproductive growth. Melatonin plays a vital role in regulating various mechanisms in plants and acts as a primary defense against environmental stresses. However, its interaction with zinc is not well understood. In the experiment, a randomized complete block design with three repetitions was used. A field experiment was conducted to investigate the interaction effects of zinc fertilizer (ZnSO4) - no application, 1 mg/L, and 2 mg/L and different concentrations of melatonin (0, 25, 50, 100, 200 mg/L. Mung bean plants treated with melatonin and higher levels of zinc fertilizer showed increased vegetative growth and improved yield attributes. The specific combination of 200 mg/L of melatonin and 2 mg/L of zinc fertilizer emerges as a promising strategy to maximize yield components, including pod number, seed number per pod, and seed weight. Notably, this combination proved to be the most effective treatment for enhancing mung bean yield formation which resulted in the highest average seed yield to 1764 kg/ha. It is concluded that melatonin and zinc combination is an effective approach to alleviate environmental challenges such as high temperatures during fluorescence and reproductive growth.

Drought stress is one of the most impactive factors of severe modification in plant physiology eventually leading to a reduction in crop productivity. A split plot-factorial experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources University of Khuzestan in the 2021-2022 growing season to investigate the effects of irrigation interruption and plant density on spring rapeseed genotypes. The experiment was set up in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The experimental treatments included three levels of irrigation as main plot: (I) (1. Control: no interruption of irrigation, 2. Interruption of irrigation at the beginning of flowering (phenology code 60) until the formation of 50% of the pods (phenology code 75) and 3. Interruption of irrigation at the stage of panicle formation (phenology code 99) until the stage harvest (phenology code 99)) and three levels of plant density (D) (80, 110 and 140 plants per square meter) and canola genotypes (G) (Hayola 4815 and Aram) were arranged in subplots. The study evaluated various sensitivity and tolerance indices to stress, and results showed that the triple interaction effect of IDG on cell membrane stability, photosynthetic pigments, grain protein content, grain yield, and canopy temperature was significant. Significant interaction effects were also observed between IG on grain oil content, DG, and I×D on relative water content leaf (LRWC). The genotype that demonstrated superior tolerance to drought stress had higher values for indices such as STI, YI, MP, GMP, and HM. In general, the highest grain yield was observed in control treatment and density of 110 plants M2 and genotype of Hayola4815 (1572.6 kg. ha-1) and the lowest was observed from interruption of irrigation at the stage of pods formation until harvest and plant density of 140 plants per M2 and Aram genotype (661.87 kg. ha -1).

Abstract The substitution of leucine to proline at position 39 (p.P39L) in human αB-crystallin (αB-Cry) has been associated with conflicting interpretations of pathogenicity in cataracts and cardiomyopathy. This study aimed to investigate the effects of the p.P39L mutation on the structural and functional features of human αB-Cry. The mutant protein was expressed in Escherichia coli (E. coli) and purified using anion exchange chromatography. We employed a wide range of spectroscopic analyses, gel electrophoresis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) techniques to investigate the structure, function, stability, and fibrillation propensity of the mutant protein. The p.P39L mutation caused significant changes in the secondary, tertiary, and quaternary structures of human αB-Cry and increased the thermal stability of the protein. The mutant αB-Cry exhibited an increased chaperone activity and an altered oligomeric size distribution, along with an increased propensity to form amyloid aggregates. It is worth mentioning, increased chaperone activity has important positive and negative effects on damaged cells related to cataracts and cardiomyopathy, particularly by interfering in the process of apoptosis. Despite the apparent positive nature of the increased chaperone activity, it is also linked to adverse consequences. This study provides important insights into the effect of proline substitution by leucine at the N-terminal region on the dual nature of chaperone activity in human αB-Cry, which can act as a double-edged sword.

Abstract In pulmonary inflammation diseases, like COVID-19, lung involvement and inflammation determine the treatment regime. Respiratory inflammation is typically arisen due to the cytokine storm and the leakage of the vessels for immune cells recruitment. Currently, such a situation is detected by the clinical judgment of a specialist or precisely by a chest CT scan. However, the lack of accessibility to the CT machines in many poor medical centers as well as its expensive service, demands more accessible methods for fast and cheap detection of lung inflammation. Here, we have introduced a novel method for tracing the inflammation and lung involvement in patients with pulmonary inflammation, such as COVID-19, by a simple electrolyte detection in their sputum samples. The presence of the electrolyte in the sputum sample results in the fern-like structures after air-drying. These fern patterns are different in the CT positive and negative cases that are detected by an AI application on a smartphone and using a low-cost and portable mini-microscope. Evaluating 160 patient-derived sputum sample images, this method demonstrated an interesting accuracy of 95%, as confirmed by CT-scan results. This finding suggests that the method has the potential to serve as a promising and reliable approach for recognizing lung inflammatory diseases, such as COVID-19.

Engraftment by donor lymphocytes in an immunologically compromised host can result in donor T-cell activation against host major histocompatibility complex antigens, with resultant GVHD."nThe acute form of GVHD (aGVHD) is characterized by erythroderma, cholestatic hepatitis, and enteritis. The intestinal symptoms of aGVHD include crampy abdominal pain and watery diarrhea, often with blood. The conditioning regimen and infectious agents may produce similar symptoms. Severe intestinal aGVHD is a life-threatening event and associated with high mortality."nIn this case report, we describe two patients with major thalassemia who experienced acute gastrointestinal GVHD. One of them experienced it after peripheral blood transplantation at day +13, and the other after bone marrow transplantation at day +14. The first presentation was severe GI bleeding, and then 2 litters per day diarrhea. Besides standard prophylaxis with Cyclosporine and Methotrexate, Methylprednisolone 2mg/kg per day commenced because GI bleeding started and afterward supportive treatment means were continued. Following administration of Methylprednisolone, the amount of GI bleeding and diarrhea declined; in addition, the need for whole blood transfusion and blood products decreased. Both children had no problem in follow-up."nEngraftment evaluation by the VNTR method showed 100 percent validity. GI bleeding after transplantation can be a major presentation of aGVHD, which requires precise attention, and on-time treatment. The elimination of other causes of GI bleeding and diarrhea, in addition to the two other factors mentioned above, would increase the survival rate of patients greatly.

This study investigates the horizontal injection of a heavy Newtonian fluid into a lighter viscoplastic ambient fluid, in a large reservoir. The flow dynamics is experimentally captured via camera imaging, laser-induced fluorescence, and particle image velocimetry techniques. The flow parameters include various density differences, injection velocities, and ambient fluid viscoplastic properties. Our analysis identifies two key dimensionless numbers, the Froude number (Fr) and the effective viscosity ratio (m), which includes the rheology of the viscoplastic fluid. Our study also examines the effects of these dimensionless numbers on critical jet characteristics, such as bifurcation length, transition length, deviation length, and jet trajectory, and provides correlations using Fr and m, to predict these characteristic lengths. A regime classification based on the bifurcation phenomenon is also presented in the Fr−m plane.

This study was designed to assess the role of first-line chemotherapy with 5-FU and platinum in the treatment of advanced or recurrent cervical cancer, ten patients with advanced or recurrent cancer of the cervix, with no prior chemotherapy were entered in phase II trial, from Oct. 2000 to Nov. 2001. Eight patients were treated with cis-platinum (50 mg/m2 over 60 minutes in first day) followed by 5-FU (1 g/m2 over 24 hours for 4 days) and two patients with impaired renal function were treated with carboplatin (300 mg/m2 over 15 minutes in first day) followed by 5-FU (1 g/m2 over 24 hours for 4 days) every three weeks, until progression of disease or prohibitive toxicity had been observed. Median age was 52 years (range: 28-70 years). Ten patients received a total of 42 cycles of chemotherapy. The mean number of chemotherapy cycles was 4.2 (median 4, range: 3-7). Three patients had partial response (30%, CI, 1.7%-58.5%). Mean response duration was 198 days (range: 122-273 days). Four patients required red blood cell transfusions; three of them had grade II and one of them grade III nausea and vomiting Two had fever and neutropenia (one developed acute renal insufficiency), and there wee no treatment related mortalities. First-line chemotherapy with platinum and 5-FU for advanced recurrent cervical cancer is promising and deserves consideration for large phase III trials.

Introduction: After the influenza pandemic since 1918, the world is experiencing another viral challenge by a coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). One of the most important strategies is to enhance the immune system.Results: Having an optimal nutritional behavior, following a balanced dietary pattern is essential for immune enhancement and reduce the risk of infectivity. Cytokine release syndrome (CRS) is hypothesized as one of the main causes of inflammation and consequently, lung damage in this viral infection. Undernutrition or overnutrition as the result of nutritional status can affect the immune system. Multivitamin and Minerals (MVM) intake can be beneficial in vulnerable populations such as the elderly, having a regular diet with the priority of healthy food portions can supply all daily requirements.Conclusion: According to the WHO recommendations for consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables and also diets which have been hypothesized as an immune enhancer, the Mediterranean diet may involve all nutrients needed for improvement of the immune system.

In recent years, thermoelectric cooling has seen significant growth, driven by advancements in nanoscience and manufacturing. Concurrently, the increasing water crisis in various regions has led to a surge in research on Atmospheric Water Harvesters (AWHs) for decentralized water harvesting. This study presents a comprehensive thermodynamic and economic analysis of Thermoelectric-based Atmospheric Water Harvesters (TAWHs) with different Heat Exchanger (HX) configurations with different flow configurations. Our research identifies five types of HXs, each characterized by its own optimal geometrical and controlling parameters. These HXs are evaluated based on economy, eco-friendliness, productivity, air cooling efficiency, and compactness. We provide new insights into the hidden potential and performance of Thermoelectric Coolers (TECs) in desalination, particularly highlighting the effect of increasing the ratio of surfaces mounted with TECs to the total surface area of the channels. Our results indicate that among the HX configurations, the counter flow HX is the most economical option, capable of water harvesting at a cost of $0.230 USD per liter from an 80 % humidity level. The parallel flow HX demonstrates higher efficiency according to the second law of thermodynamics and environmental friendliness, while the crossflow HX exhibits lower overall efficiency. We found that the optimum cold channel incoming air flow rate varies with humidity in a detailed analysis of a counter flow HX with 2 columns and 15 rows. Interestingly, we found that humidity and incoming air mass flow rate have a negligible effect on power consumption. This work can be used as a guideline for future engineering problems involving the design and optimization of TAWHs.
