Abstract Studies on the correlation of exposure to metals with diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is scarce, especially concerning the impact of mixed metals on DKD. This study aimed to explore the association of blood heavy metals with DKD risk among type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients. This cross-sectional study enrolled patients with T2DM in NHANES 2011–2020. ICP‒MS was applied to detect five metals, namely, Pb, Cd, Hg, Se and Mn, in blood. At the same time, the impacts of exposure to single and mixed metals on DKD were assessed using multivariable logistic regression, WQS, and BKMR models. The relationship was examined based on age, sex, BMI, hypertension, smoking status and PIR. Totally 2362 participants were enrolled for final analysis. Among them, 634 (26.84%) patients undergoing T2DM had DKD. Logistic regression indicated that, Pb (Q4: OR [95% CI]: 1.557 [1.175, 2.064]) was related to DKD when all covariates were adjusted. The WQS analysis, which was set in a positive directional mode, suggested that Pb was correlated positively with a higher incidence of DKD. In BKMR analysis, linear dose‒response curves were generated for Pb when fixing the other metals in the 50th percentile. In addition, exposure to mixed metals was significantly positively related to DKD. Subgroup analysis during logistic regression demonstrated that Pb was significantly and positively related to DKD in females, over 50 years, those with over 25 kg/m2, no hypertension, no smoking status and under PIR. Serum albumin (ALB) did not regulate the indirect impact of blood Pb on DKD risk. The results showed that the increased mixed metal concentration may lead to an increased DKD risk among patients with T2DM. Blood Pb is positively related to the DKD risk in diabetic patients, especially, in females, over 50 years, those with over 25 kg/m2, no hypertension, no smoking status and under PIR in T2DM patients. According to our observations, Pb absorption at least slightly influences DKD occurrence and progression. More studies are needed to validate the results in this work and illustrate the relevant biological mechanism.

Two-dimensional (2D) metal oxide α-MoO3 shows great potentials because of its very high dielectric constant, air stability and anisotropic phonon polaritons. However, a method to produce ultrathin single crystalline α-MoO3 with high transferability for functional device architecture is lacking. Herein, we report on the controllable synthesis of ultrathin α-MoO3 single crystals via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) assisted by plasma pretreatment. We also carried out systematic computational work to explicate the mechanism for the slantly-oriented growth of thin nanosheets on plasma-pretreated substrate. The method possesses certain universality to synthesize other ultrathin oxide materials, such as Bi2O3 and Sb2O3 nanosheets. As-grown α-MoO3 presents a high dielectric constant (≈40), ultrathin thickness (≈3 nm) and high transferability. Memristors with α-MoO3 as the functional layers show excellent performance featuring high on/off ratio of approximately 104, much lower set voltage around 0.5 V, and highly repetitive voltage sweep endurance. The power consumption of MoO3 memristors is significantly reduced, resulted from reduced thickness of the MoO3 nanosheets. Single crystal ultrathin α-MoO3 shows great potentials in post-Moore memristor and the synthesis of CVD assisted by plasma pretreatment approach points to a new route for materials growth.

Abstract Background China is ranked third globally in terms of burden and has a moderately high to high prevalence of tuberculosis (TB). This study meticulously investigated the notification rates of TB and assessed the epidemic in China from 2000 to 2021. The aim of the study was to provide robust supporting data that is crucial for enhancing TB prevention and control strategies. Methods Extensive data regarding TB notification rates in China between 2000 and 2021 was collected. The joinpoint regression model was subsequently utilized to assess the temporal trends in the notification rates of TB, which were analyzed through the annual percentage change (APC) and the average annual percentage change (AAPC). In order to understand the bias and main affecting factors of codon usage in the plastid genome of Diplandrorchis sinica, which is a rare and endangered plant species in the Orchidaceae family, the complete plastid genome sequence of D. sinica was downloaded from the GenBank database and 20 protein-coding sequences that met the analysis requirements were finally selected. The GC content, length of the amino acid (Laa), relative synonymous codon usage (RSCU), and effective number of codon (ENC) of each gene and codon were calculated using the CodonW and EMBOSS online programs. Neutral plot analysis, ENC-plot analysis, PR2-plot analysis, and correspondence analysis were performed using Origin Pro 2024 software, and correlation analysis between various indicators was performed using SPSS 23.0 software. The results showed that the third base of the codon in the plastid genome of D. sinica was rich in A and T, with a GC3 content of 27%, which was lower than that of GC1 (45%) and GC2 (39%). The ENC value ranged from 35 to 57, with an average of 47. The codon usage bias was relatively low, and there was a significant positive correlation between ENC and GC3. There were a total of 32 codons with RSCU values greater than 1, of which 30 ended with either A or U. There were a total of nine optimal codons identified, namely, UCU, UCC, UCA, GCA, UUG, AUA, CGU, CGA, and GGU. This study indicated that the dominant factor affecting codon usage bias in the plastid genome of D. sinica was natural selection pressure, while the impact of base mutations was limited. The codon usage patterns were not closely related to gene types, and the distribution of photosynthetic system genes and ribosomal protein-coding gene loci was relatively scattered, indicating significant differences in the usage patterns of these gene codons. In addition, the codon usage patterns may not be related to whether the plant is a photosynthetic autotrophic or heterotrophic nutritional type. The results of this study could provide scientific references for the genomic evolution and phylogenetic research of plant species in the family Orchidaceae.

Abstract With the development of fluid-power transmission and control technology, electro-hydraulic-driven technology can significantly improve the load-carrying capacity, stiffness, and control accuracy of stabilization platforms. However, compared with mechanically driven platforms, the stiffness and damping of the fluid, as well as the coupling effect between the fluid and the structure need to be considered for electro-hydraulic-driven parallel stabilization platforms, making the modal and dynamic response characteristics of the mechanism more complex. With the aim of solving the aforementioned issues, we research the electro-hydraulic driven 3-UPS/S parallel stabilization platform considering the hinge stiffness. Moreover, the characteristic vibration equation of the mechanism is established using the virtual work principle. Subsequently, the variation characteristics of the natural frequency and the vibration response according to the position of the mechanism are analyzed based on the dynamic equation. Finally, the correctness of the model is verified by a modal test and Runge-Kutta methods. This study provides a theoretical basis for the dynamic design of electrohydraulic-driven parallel mechanisms.

Homoderus mellyi belongs to the Lucanidae family of Coleoptera. The first complete mitogenome of Homoderus is reported in this paper. The genome is 16,807 bp in length and contains the typical 37 genes with 22 transfer RNA genes, 13 protein coding genes, and 2 ribosomal RNA genes. The gene order is conserved across the lineage. The average base composition of the mitogenome is 36.6% for A, 20.8% for C, 11.6% for G, and 31.1% for T. The percentage of GC is 32.3%. The genome organization, nucleotide composition, and codon usage are similar to other beetles. Phylogenetic analysis shows that Lucanidae is monophyletic, and all subfamilies are monophyletic, respectively. The phylogenetic position of H. mellyi is consistent with other research.

Abstract Objective Inadequate tuberculosis (TB) knowledge and awareness of proper TB control practices among health care workers (HCWs) may increase the risk of nosocomial TB transmission. This study aimed to assess HCWs’ TB-related knowledge and control practices to guide the development of more effective targeted TB health education and training programs. Methods In January 2023 a cross-sectional survey was administered to 323 HCWs employed by five primary health care centers and three secondary comprehensive medical institutions in Beijing, China. Survey data were collected using a standard questionnaire. Results Analysis of survey responses revealed TB knowledge and practices awareness rates of 60.4% and 90.6%, respectively. The overall average awareness rate across all 19 TB knowledge- and practice-related questions was 70.0%. Intermediate- and senior-level HCW’s average TB knowledge score was respectively 2.225 and 8.175 times higher than that of primary-level HCWs, while the average TB knowledge score of HCWs in secondary comprehensive medical institutions was 3.052 times higher than that of HCWs in primary health care centers. Higher average TB knowledge score correlated with higher-level professional titles and higher level work units, but higher average TB control practices score correlated with employment at primary health care center rather than secondary comprehensive medical institution. Notably, 13.6% of HCWs had not received TB training during the past three years, while 86.1% expressed willingness to undergo online TB training. Conclusion These findings highlight inadequate TB knowledge and awareness of proper TB control practices among HCWs in primary health care centers and secondary comprehensive medical institutions in Beijing, underscoring the urgent need for targeted educational and training initiatives to improve TB awareness and control efforts.

Metallic bipolar plates (BPPs) manufactured by stamping have great commercialization prospects in proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) owing to their significant advantages of low density, small volume, high mechanical strength, and low cost. The development of coatings on metallic BPPs is essential for its application in PEMFCs. However, both the design and preparation of metallic BPP coatings face great challenges of increasing requirements, low efficiency, insufficient performance, and high cost. In present work, the design, manufacture and evaluation of coatings on metallic BPPs are extensively reviewed and explored. The changing requirements including corrosion resistance, conductivity, hydrophobicity, and mechanical properties for metallic BPP coatings and corresponding evaluation methods are comprehensively discussed. Especially, improved mechanical properties are critical for the emerging precoated metallic BBPs. Numerous coatings previously developed are quantitatively compared to provide guidance for the coating material selection. For highly efficient development of high-performance and low-cost coating, the material-structure-properties relationship of coatings is thoroughly summarized as the coating design principle. Moreover, different design methods including experimental, calculation, and machine learning are respectively in depth explored and compared, suggesting that machine learning combining decreased experiments and material calculation is a high-efficiency and effective method for coating design.

Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) has the feature of aggressive growth and high rates of recurrence. Immunotherapy was not included in standard therapy for GBM due to lacking the predictive biomarkers. In the present study, we performed an immune-related gene pair (IRGP) signature to predict the prognosis and immunotherapy response of GBM. Methods: A total of 160 GBM patients from TCGA were included. ssGSEA was conducted to evaluate the immune infiltration level. Univariate Cox, LASSO regression analysis, ROC analysis, and Kaplan-Meier survival analysis were applied to construct and evaluate the risk model. Moreover, the association between immune infiltration and the risk score was assessed. Finally, the expression of immune checkpoints between different risk groups was explored. Results: According to the normal/tumor, high-/low-immunity group, we identified 125 differentially expressed immune-related genes. Subsequently, a prognostic model including 22 IRGPs was established. The area under the ROC curve to predict 1, 3, and 5-year was 0.811, 0.958, and 0.99 respectively. According to the optimal cut-off value of the 3-year ROC curve, patients were classified into high- and low-risk groups. Myasthenia gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disease. Patients with MG due to compromised autoimmune regulation, progressive muscle weakness, and prolonged use of immunosuppressants and glucocorticoid, often present with concomitant infections. However, cases of MG complicated by Nocardia infection are rare. In this case, we report MG complicated with pulmonary infection by Nocardia cyriacigeorgica. A 71-year-old male farmer who was admitted for management of MG. After 7 weeks of treatment of MG, the patient reported improvement. However, clinical presentation, inflammatory markers, and imaging findings supported a diagnosis of pulmonary infection. To further elucidate the etiology, Nocardia was identified in sputum smear microscopy and sputum culture, with 16S rRNA gene sequencing confirming N. cyriacigeorgica. The patient was prescribed trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole. After 1 month of treatment, clinical symptoms of MG and pulmonary nocardiosis showed significant improvement. Additionally, we searched PubMed for case reports of Nocardia cyriacigeorgica pulmonary infection from 2010 to 2024 and conducted a statistical analysis of the case information. This report aims to highlights the increased risk of pulmonary Nocardia infection in MG patients after the use of steroids and immunosuppressants, thereby enhancing clinical awareness.

The Tibetan Plateau (TP) has been the focus of numerous studies examining the energy and water cycle variations, but there is still a lack of long-term, quantitative precise assessments of evapotranspiration. This research first provided two sets of long-term comprehensive observational datasets, and an advanced monitoring technique to measure soil moisture, which can improve the estimation accuracy of evapotranspiration. Subsequently, using microwave data, the Surface Energy Balance System model and Machine Learning methods, it calculated a complete set of long-term evapotranspiration data. At the same time, based on reasonable assumptions, it also estimated the total evaporation from plateau lakes. These findings contribute significantly to the understanding of the relationship between the Asian monsoon, the TP’s physical characteristics, and its atmosphere, thereby improving predictions of water resource variability in the TP. The study’s innovative methodologies and synthesis of diverse data sources provide critical information for informed and sustainable water management strategies in the region.

Abstract A boy aged 55 months was diagnosed with stage IV Neuroblastoma (NB) of the right adrenal gland 2 years ago. Preoperative chemotherapy was given and he was then treated with retroperitoneal tumor resection and lymph node dissection. After surgery, the children were transferred to the Hemato-Oncology Department for chemotherapy according to the high-risk group NB, with outpatient follow-up every 6 months. In the second postoperative year, abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a rounded hypodense area in the upper part of the right posterior lobe of the liver, with marked inhomogeneous enhancement in the venous phase after enhancement, which was surgically resected, and postoperative pathology confirmed inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) of liver. The patient was not given any special treatment after surgery. In this study, whole transcriptome sequencing was performed on the postoperative specimen of adrenal NB and the specimen of IMT of liver. This unusual case emphasizes the need for close monitoring of second tumor development in NB survivors even in the absence of known predisposing factors.

Abstract Background Hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation (HBVr) is a major concern for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients undergoing hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC) using mFOLFOX6 regimen. There is insufficient evidence to support the routine use of HAIC combined with immunotherapy in HCC patients with HBVr. The aim of this study was to examine the adverse events (AEs) related to HBVr in HCC patients after HAIC, with or without immunotherapy, and to assess the effectiveness of antiviral prophylaxis for HBVr. Methods Medical records of HCC patients receiving HAIC combined with and without immunotherapy between January 2021 and June 2023 were reviewed. The patients were divided into two groups based on whether they received immunotherapy or not. Results Out of the 106 patients, 32 (30.2%) developed HBVr. Among these, 23 eligible patients with HBVr were included, with 14 patients (61%) receiving immunotherapy and nine patients (39%) not receiving immunotherapy. Prior to HAIC treatment, four patients in each group had detectable HBV DNA with median titre of 3.66 × 102 IU/ml (patients with immunotherapy) and 1.98 × 102 IU/ml (patients without immunotherapy), respectively. Fifteen patients did not show detectable HBV DNA. At HBVr occurrence, the median HBV DNA level was 6.95 × 102 IU/ml for all patients, 4.82 × 102 IU/ml in patients receiving immunotherapy and 1.3 × 103 IU/ml in patients not receiving immunotherapy. Grade 3 hepatitis developed in 12 cases of all patients (12/23, 48%), including five patients with immunotherapy (56%) and seven patients without immunotherapy (78%). At the 3-month follow-up, HBV DNA was detected in 10 patients, with a median HBV DNA level of 2.05 × 102 IU/ml (range, 1.5 × 102– 3.55 × 102 IU/ml) in patients (7/10) with immunotherapy and 4.28 × 102 IU/ml (range, 1.15 × 102– 5.88 × 102 IU/ml) in patients (3/10) without immunotherapy. Intensified antiviral treatment was administered to all patients. No HBVr-related fatal events occurred. Conclusion HBVr can occur after HAIC combined with or without immunotherapy. The degree of liver damage did not differ significantly in patients treated with or without immunotherapy. Intensified antiviral treatment was found to be crucial for HCC patients with HBVr.

Abstract Background Angiopoietin-like protein 3 (ANGPTL3) is secreted by hepatocytes and inhibits lipoprotein lipase and endothelial lipase activity. Previous studies reported the correlation between plasma ANGPTL3 levels and high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Recently ANGPTL3 was found to preferentially bind to HDL in healthy human circulation. Here, we examined whether ANGPTL3, as a component of HDL, modulates HDL function and affects HDL other components in human and mice with non-diabetes or type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods HDL was isolated from the plasma of female non-diabetic subjects and type-2 diabetic mellitus (T2DM) patients. Immunoprecipitation, western blot, and ELISA assays were used to examine ANGPTL3 levels in HDL. Db/m and db/db mice, AAV virus mediated ANGPTL3 overexpression and knockdown models and ANGPTL3 knockout mice were used. The cholesterol efflux capacity induced by HDL was analyzed in macrophages preloaded with fluorescent cholesterol. The anti-inflammation capacity of HDL was assessed using flow cytometry to measure VCAM-1 and ICAM-1 expression levels in TNF-α-stimulated endothelial cells pretreated with HDL. Results ANGPTL3 was found to bind to HDL and be a component of HDL in both non-diabetic subjects and T2DM patients. Flag-ANGPTL3 was found in the HDL of transgenic mice overexpressing Flag-ANGPTL3. ANGPLT3 of HDL was positively associated with cholesterol efflux in female non-diabetic controls (r = 0.4102, p = 0.0117) but not in female T2DM patients (r = − 0.1725, p = 0.3224). ABSTRACTExploring the differences of cotton quality among the four production areas in Aksu, Xinjiang and tracing the origin can improve cotton quality and cotton blending efficiency. In this study, nine quality indicators of 2000 cotton samples from four regions were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance to determine the differences of cotton from different regions. Principal component analysis (PCA) and Fisher discriminant analysis (DA) were used to establish the origin traceability model. Results show that there were significant differences in the quality of cotton from different regions. PCA extracted the first five principal components, and the cumulative variance contribution rate reaches 82.11%, 17.89% information are lost in the PCA model. The origin traceability model established by discriminant analysis shows that the accuracy of sample verification reaches 85.4% and the accuracy of cross-validation reaches 85.1%. Therefore, the Fisher discriminant model based on cotton quality indicators can effectively discriminate cotton from different regions in Xinjiang, China.

Mycobacterium marinum, a photochromogenic, slow-growing mycobacterium, thrives in both marine and freshwater environments. Optimal growth occurs between 25°C and 35°C, with survival becoming challenging above 37°C. Typically, M. marinum enters the body via skin abrasions, often leading to infections of the upper extremities. Diagnosis of M. marinum infection is frequently challenging and delayed due to the difficult pathogen identification. At present, a standardized treatment protocol has yet to be established. Presented herein is a case study detailing an infection of the right hand's middle finger caused by M. marinum. Notably, his occupation as a chef, handling fish and seafood post-injury, was a significant factor. Histological examination of the skin biopsy and positive acid-fast staining were consistent with a diagnosis of mycobacterial infection. Pathological examination confirmed a skin infection with infectious granuloma, and tissue section acid-fast staining revealed acid-fast bacill. Cultures on Columbia blood agar yielded rough, flattened, yellow-fleshy colonies after 10 days, which was identified as M. marinum through 16S rRNA sequencing. The patient responded well to a 3-month regimen of oral moxifloxacin (0.4 qd) and linezolid (0.6 qd), resulting in rash resolution and pain relief, with no recurrence observed for 1-year follow-up. This report presents the first documented acid-fast staining images of M. marinum tissue sections and colony morphology photographs, offering an in-depth view of M. marinum's morphological characteristics. It aims to enhance awareness of M. marinum infections, underscore the necessity for clinicians to delve into patient histories, and provide a review of the clinical manifestations, diagnostic techniques, therapeutic approaches, and pathogenic mechanisms associated with M. marinum.

In the field of solid oxide cells (SOC), unveiling the electrochemical reaction and transfer mechanisms in mixed ionic and electronic conducting (MIEC) electrodes is of great importance. Due to the chemical capacitance effects of MIEC materials, SOC often shows large capacitance current during electrochemical tests, which might interfere with the polarization behaviors. This work presents a numerical multiphysical model based on the transport of oxygen species, which accurately and concisely replicates the current-voltage curves of a solid oxide electrolysis cell (SOEC) with MIEC electrodes under various scanning rates. The scanning IV and electrochemical impedance spectra measurement under different SOEC working conditions are combined to enable the separation of Faradic and charging currents. Thus, both the bulk diffusion and surface gaseous diffusion of the oxygen species are encompassed, which explains how the current being generated due to intertwined chemical capacitance effects and chemical reactions in the MIEC electrodes.

Penicillium digitatum is a common plant pathogen that causes citrus rot, which is extremely rare in humans. We report a case of a 66-year-old man with a history of consuming large amounts of citrus fruits, smoking for 30 years, and a history of emphysema. He had experienced intermittent coughing with sputum for more than 10 years and was admitted to the hospital due to worsening of symptoms over the past month. Despite antibiotic treatment, his condition did not improve. Subsequently, bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) was detected by metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS), which showed the presence of P. digitatum. The fungal culture of BALF also indicated the presence of the Penicillium genus. The diagnosis was lung infection caused by P. digitatum, and the patient was treated with itraconazole. The lung infection was controlled. This is the third reported case of invasive pulmonary fungal infection caused by P. digitatum worldwide at the genus level, and the first reported case in China. Although human infections caused by P. digitatum are rare, as an emerging opportunistic pathogen, the detection of this fungus in immunocompromised patients should still be clinically important.

ObjectiveTo analyze protective effect of seasonal influenza vaccination among primary and junior middle school students during influenza outbreak in schools during 2022 – 2023 for developing influenza vaccination strategies. MethodsA retrospective cohort study was conducted among 4 087 students in 64 classes of 5 preschool/primary/junior middle schools with influenza outbreaks (at least two cases diagnosed in a class) during February – April 2023 in Sichuan province. The parents of the students were asked to answer an online questionnaire about the students′ information on demographics, influenza situation, and the status of influenza vaccination. The cases′ laboratory diagnosis and the students′ detailed information on seasonal vaccination were further checked in the National Infectious Disease Surveillance Information System and the Sichuan Province Planned Immunization Information Management System using Identification Card Numbers of the students. Multivariate logistic regression was adopted to calculate adjusted relative risk (RR) of influenza of the influenza vaccinees for the estimation of adjusted vaccine effectiveness (VEadj) of influenza vaccination with following formula: VEadj = (1 – RRadj) × 100%. ResultsAmong all the students surveyed, 1 352 (33.1%) had influenza onset during the outbreak period from April to June 2023, including 292 laboratory confirmed, 659 clinically diagnosed, and 401 suspected cases. There were 19.0% of students had receiving seasonal influenza vaccination, the VEadj (95% confidence interval [95%CI]) of flu vaccination was 26.0% (0.6% – 44.9%) for clinically diagnosed and laboratory confirmed cases; stratified analyses showed that for all the vaccinees with the interval time of within 14 – 120 days and within 121 – 180 days between the vaccination and influenza onset, the VEadj (95%CI) were 78.3% (59.8% – 88.3%) and 58.6% (35.6% – 73.4%); for the vaccinees with the same two interval periods but receiving quadrivalent flu vaccine, the VEadj (95%CI) were 81.4% (63.8% – 90.4%) and 62.3% (40.7% – 76.0%) and the VEadj (95%CI) were 73.4% (12.1% – 92.0%) and 87.1% (74.7% – 93.4%) for the vacinees with confirmed influenza A(H1N1) infection and the same two interval periods mentioned above, respectively. No significant protective effect of influenza vaccine for the vaccinees with the interval time of more than 180 days time.ConclusionInfluenza vaccination is of certain protective effect on preventing influenza infection among preschool/primary/junior middle school students, and the protective effect is obvious within 6 months after the seasonal vaccination. The results suggest influenza vaccination should be promoted among primary and junior middle school students to prevent influenza outbreaks in schools.

Abstract Background The prognostic significance of the CRAFITY score (CRP and AFP in ImmunoTherapY) has been demonstrated in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients receiving immunotherapy. The purpose of this study was to investigate the utility and the predictive value of CRAFITY score in HCC after transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) in combination with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and immunotherapy. Materials and methods Data from patients with advanced HCC treated with TACE plus TKIs and PD-1 inhibitor from January 2019 to June 2022 were collected and analyzed retrospectively. Patients with AFP ≥ 100 ng/mL and those with CRP ≥ 1 mg/dL were assigned a CRAFITY score of 1 point. Patients were divided into three groups according to their CRAFITY score (CRAFITY-low, 0 points; CRAFITY-intermediate, 1 point; and CRAFITY-high, 2 points). The differences in overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS) and adverse events (AEs) were compared among the three groups. Objective To investigate the prevalence of Hepatitis E virus (HEV) among blood donors in Wuhan urban agglomeration, aimed at providing data support for the development of HEV screening strategies for blood donors. Methods A total of 3 329 blood samples were collected from four centralized testing areas (Ezhou, Tianmen, Xiantao and Qianjiang) and screened at Wuhan Blood Center from January to December 2021. Among them, 2 737 were eligible blood samples with normal ALT (ALT normal group) and 592 were with elevated ALT (ALT elevated group). Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to detect anti-HEV IgG, anti-HEV IgM and HEV-Ag, and Real-time PCR was used to perform single HEV RNA detection on blood samples with elevated ALT and normal ALT anti-HEV IgM+ blood samples. Abstract Background About 8% of TB cases worldwide are estimated to have rifampicin-susceptible, isoniazid-resistant tuberculosis (Hr-TB), ranging from 5 to 11% regions. However, Hr-TB has not received much attention while comparing to be given high priority to the management of rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (RR-TB). This study aimed to compare the differences of treatment effects for Hr-TB and RR-TB, so as to intensify the treatment and management of Hr-TB. Methods A retrospective study was used to collect bacteriologically positive retreated patients with isoniazid/rifampicin resistant pulmonary tuberculosis, who were conducted at 29 tuberculosis control institutions in China from July 2009 to June 2021. We assessed effectiveness and safety of retreated patients with isoniazid/ rifampicin resistant pulmonary tuberculosis. Results A total of 147 with either positive smear or cultures were enrolled, and 80 cases were in Hr-TB group and 67 cases were in RR-TB group. There was no significant difference in terms of age, sex, body mass, type of retreatment and comorbid diabetes between the two groups (P > 0.05). The rate of number of lesions involving lung fields ≥ 3 in Hr-TB group 75.9% (60/79) was significantly higher than RR-TB group 56.7% (38/67) (χ2 = 6.077, P = 0.014). There was no statistically significant difference (P = 0.166) with regard to the treatment outcomes of the two groups, the cure rates were 54.7% (41/75) and 53.6% (30/56), respectively, and the failure rate in Hr-TB group 22.7% (17/75) was 10% higher than RR-TB group 10.7% (6/56). The rate of negative sputum smear at the end of the second month (65.7%) in the Hr-TB group was significantly lower than that in the RR-TB group (85.7%) (P = 0.025). There were no significant differences in the incidences of serious adverse reactions and chest X-ray changes between the two groups (P > 0.05). During the 5-year follow-up, recurrence in the Hr-TB group (7 cases, 14.9%) was no significantly lower than that in the RR-TB group (4 cases, 11.8%) (P = 0.754). Conclusion The treatment of retreated Hr-TB patients was difficult and could be statistically similar or considerably worse than RR-TB. It’s urgent to conduct further evaluation of the treatment status quo to guide the guideline development and clinical practice of Hr-TB patients.

Muscle fatigue significantly impacts coordination, stability, and speed in daily activities. Accurate assessment of muscle fatigue is vital for effective exercise programs, injury prevention, and sports performance enhancement. Current methods mostly focus on individual muscles and strength evaluation, overlooking overall fatigue in multi-muscle movements. This study introduces a comprehensive muscle fatigue model using non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) weighting. NMF is employed to analyze the duration multi-muscle weight coefficient matrix (DMWCM) during synergistic movements, and four electromyographic (EMG) signal features in time, frequency, and complexity domains are selected. Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) optimizes feature weights. The DMWCM and weighted features combine to calculate the Comprehensive Muscle Fatigue Index (CMFI) for multi-muscle synergistic movements. Experimental results show that CMFI correlates with perceived exertion (RPE) and Speed Dynamic Score (SDS), confirming its accuracy and real-time tracking in assessing multi-muscle synergistic movements. This model offers a more comprehensive approach to muscle fatigue assessment, with potential benefits for exercise training, injury prevention, and sports medicine.

Abstract Background Alzheimer's disease is one common type of dementia. Numerous studies have suggested a correlation between Alzheimer's disease and inflammation. Microglia mainly participate in the inflammatory response in the brain. Currently, ample evidence has shown that microglia are closely related to the occurrence and development of Alzheimer's disease. Objective We opted for bibliometric analysis to comprehensively summarize the advancements in the study of microglia in Alzheimer's disease, aiming to provide researchers with current trends and future research directions. Methods All articles and reviews pertaining to microglia in Alzheimer's disease from 2000 to 2022 were downloaded through Web of Science Core Collection. The results were subjected to bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer 1.6.18 and CiteSpace 6.1 R2. Results Overall, 7449 publications were included. The number of publications was increasing yearly. The United States has published the most publications. Harvard Medical School has published the most papers of all institutions. Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease and Journal of Neuroscience were the journals with the most studies and the most commonly cited, respectively. Mt Heneka is the author with the highest productivity and co-citation. After analysis, the most common keywords are neuroinflammation, amyloid-beta, inflammation, neurodegeneration. Gut microbiota, extracellular vesicle, dysfunction and meta-analysis are the hotspots of research at the present stage and are likely to continue. Conclusion NLRP3 inflammasome, TREM2, gut microbiota, mitochondrial dysfunction, exosomes are research hotspots. The relationship between microglia-mediated neuroinflammation and Alzheimer's disease have been the focus of current research and the development trend of future research.

Wearing robotic gloves has become increasingly crucial for hand rehabilitation in stroke patients. However, traditional robotic gloves can exert additional pressure on the hand, such as prolonged use leading to poor blood circulation and muscle stiffness. To address these concerns, this work analyzes the finger kinematic model based on computerized tomography (CT) images of human hands, and designs a low-pressure robotic glove that conforms to finger kinematic characteristics. Firstly, physiological data on finger joint flexion and extension were collected through CT scans. The equivalent rotation centers of finger joints were obtained using the SURF and RANSAC algorithms. Furthermore, the trajectory of finger joint end and the correlation equation of finger joint motion were fitted, and a comprehensive finger kinematic model was established. Based on this finger kinematic model, a novel under-actuated exoskeleton mechanism was designed using a human-machine integration approach. The novel robotic glove fully aligns with the equivalent rotation centers and natural motion trajectories of the fingers, exerting minimal and evenly distributed dynamic pressure on the fingers, with a theoretical static pressure value of zero. Experiments involving gripping everyday objects demonstrated that the novel robotic glove significantly reduces the overall pressure on the fingers during grasping compared to the pneumatic glove and the traditional exoskeleton robotic glove. It is suitable for long-term use by stroke patients for rehabilitation training.

Highways and their surrounding areas in mountainous and plateau regions are particularly susceptible to environmental changes, which can significantly impact their safety. In the context of global warming, the magnitude of environmental changes around highways has been further amplified. These environmental disturbances pose substantial risks to highway infrastructure in mountainous regions. By using satellite data and remote sensing techniques, this study focused on the environmental variations of the Du-Ku Highway (DKH) in the Tianshan Mountains and the preliminary revealed shifts in surface water, land surface temperature (LST), normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), and temperature vegetation dryness index (TVDI) since 2000. The quantitative results showed that the water bodies with area between 0.1 and 0.5 ha showing the most significant growth around the DKH. The LST values are primarily distributed between 280 and 285 K, while the NDVI values are mostly below 0.4, and the TVDI is mainly concentrated at the two extremes. In the context of global warming and its amplified impact on mountainous and plateau regions, these findings offer critical insights that can directly support mountainous highway construction and maintenance strategies by identifying environmental indicators, providing a scientific foundation for making data-driven decisions.

Winter wheat is one of the major crops for global food security. Accurate statistics of its planting area play a crucial role in agricultural policy formulation and resource management. However, the existing semantic segmentation methods for remote sensing images are subjected to limitations in dealing with noise, ambiguity, and intra-class heterogeneity, posing a negative impact on the segmentation performance of the spatial distribution and area of winter wheat fields in practical applications. In response to the above challenges, we proposed an improved HRNet-based semantic segmentation model in this paper. First, this model incorporates a semantic domain module (SDM), which improves the model’s precision of pixel-level semantic parsing and reduces the interference from noise through multi-confidence scale class representation. Second, a nested attention module (NAM) is embedded, which enhances the model’s capability of recognizing correct correlations in pixel classes. The experimental results show that the proposed model achieved a mean intersection over union (mIoU) of 80.51%, a precision of 88.64%, a recall of 89.14%, an overall accuracy (OA) of 90.12%, and an F1-score of 88.89% on the testing set. Compared to traditional methods, our model demonstrated better segmentation performance in winter wheat semantic segmentation tasks. The achievements of this study not only provide an effective tool and technical support for accurately measuring the area of winter wheat fields, but also have important practical value and profound strategic significance for optimizing agricultural resource allocation and achieving precision agriculture.

As one of the major global food crops, the monitoring and management of the winter wheat planting area is of great significance for agricultural production and food security worldwide. Today, the development of high-resolution remote sensing imaging technology has provided rich sources of data for extracting the visual planting information of winter wheat. However, the existing research mostly focuses on extracting the planting plots that have a simple terrain structure. In the face of diverse terrain features combining mountainous areas, plains, and saline alkali land, as well as small-scale but complex planting structures, the extraction of planting plots through remote sensing imaging is subjected to great challenges in terms of recognition accuracy and model complexity. In this paper, we propose a modified Segformer model for extracting winter wheat planting plots with complex structures in rural areas based on the 0.8 m high-resolution multispectral data obtained from the Gaofen-2 satellite, which significantly improves the extraction accuracy and efficiency under complex conditions. In the encoder and decoder of this method, new modules were developed for the purpose of optimizing the feature extraction and fusion process. Specifically, the improvement measures of the proposed method include: (1) The MixFFN module in the original Segformer model is replaced with the Multi-Scale Feature Fusion Fully-connected Network (MSF-FFN) module, which enhances the model’s representation ability in handling complex terrain features through multi-scale feature extraction and position embedding convolution; furthermore, the DropPath mechanism is introduced to reduce the possibility of overfitting while improving the model’s generalization ability. (2) In the decoder part, after fusing features at four different scales, a CoordAttention module is added, which can precisely locate important regions with enhanced features in the images by utilizing the coordinate attention mechanism, therefore further improving the model’s extraction accuracy. (3) The model’s input data are strengthened by incorporating multispectral indices, which are also conducive to the improvement of the overall extraction accuracy. The experimental results show that the accuracy rate of the modified Segformer model in extracting winter wheat planting plots is significantly increased compared to traditional segmentation models, with the mean Intersection over Union (mIOU) and mean Pixel Accuracy (mPA) reaching 89.88% and 94.67%, respectively (an increase of 1.93 and 1.23 percentage points, respectively, compared to the baseline model). Meanwhile, the parameter count and computational complexity are significantly reduced compared to other similar models. Furthermore, when multispectral indices are input into the model, the mIOU and mPA reach 90.97% and 95.16%, respectively (an increase of 3.02 and 1.72 percentage points, respectively, compared to the baseline model).

This study systematically investigated the effects of tea polyphenols on methane (CH4) production and the rumen epithelial cell transport capability in cattle using both in vitro and animal experiments, employing multi-omics techniques. The in vitro results demonstrated that, compared to the control group, tea polyphenols significantly reduced CH4 production and the acetate/propionate ratio (p < 0.05). Tea polyphenols reduced CH4 production by inhibiting the relative abundance of unclassified_d_Archaea methanogens and the protozoa Pseudoentodinium and g__Balantioides. The animal experiments showed that tea polyphenols significantly increased the concentrations of T-AOC and GSH-PX in bovine blood (p < 0.05). In addition, microbial groups such as Rikenellaceae_RC9_gut_group, Ruminococcaceae_NK4A214_group, and Butyrivibrio_2 were significantly enriched in the ruminal fluid of the tea polyphenol group (p < 0.05). The proteomic results indicated significant upregulation of proteins such as COIII, S100A8, FABP1, SLC2A8, and SLC29A1 (p < 0.05) and downregulation of proteins including HBB, RAB4A, RBP4, LOC107131172, HBA, and ZFYVE19 (p < 0.05), with FABP1 showing a positive correlation with propionate concentration, and RAB4A had a negative correlation (p < 0.05). Overall, tea polyphenols modulate the microbial composition within the rumen, inhibiting CH4 production and enhancing the host’s rumen epithelial cell transport capacity for volatile fatty acids.

BackgroundTuberculosis (TB) remains a significant public health challenge in China. Early detection and diagnosis of TB cases are crucial to interrupt disease transmission and prevent its progression. This study aims to describe the delay in seeking care and diagnosis among patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and identify the influencing factors in two counties in Beijing.MethodsA retrospective analysis was carried out to investigate care-seeking and diagnosis delay in two counties in Beijing. Basic information of PTB patients from January 1 to December 31, 2021, was extracted from the Tuberculosis Information Management System of China (TBIMS), and all enrolled patients were interviewed via telephone using a standard questionnaire. Statistical description was performed using the median and interquartile range (IQR). Chi-square test and multivariate logistic regression model were used to analyze the influencing factors.Results537 patients were enrolled. The median duration of care-seeking and diagnosis delay was 11 (IQR: 5–26) days and 8 (IQR: 0–18) days, with 41.71 and 35.20% of patients experiencing delays (>14 days). The study found that being asymptomatic (OR = 2.791, 95%CI: 1.710–4.555) before seeking medical care and not attending work during treatment (OR = 2.990, 95%CI: 1.419–6.298) were identified as risk factors for care-seeking delay. Patients who were tracked (OR = 2.632, 95%CI: 1.062–6.521) and diagnosed at tuberculosis control and prevention institutions (OR = 1.843, 95%CI: 1.061–3.202) had higher odds of diagnostic delays. 44.69% of patients presented a total delay (>28 days), with a median duration of 25 (IQR: 13–39) days. A multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that healthy examination (OR = 0.136, 95%CI: 0.043–0.425) was a protective factor for total delay.ConclusionPublic interventions are necessary to improve the efficiency of PTB patients detection and treatment in Beijing. Medical services should focus on the target population and improve access to medical care to further reduce delays for PTB patients.

The damage of integrated epithelial epithelium is a key pathogenic factor and closely associated with the recurrence of ulcerative colitis (UC). Here, we reported that vanillic acid (VA) exerted potent therapeutic effects on DSS-induced colitis by restoring intestinal epithelium homeostasis via the inhibition of ferroptosis. By the CETSA assay and DARTS assay, we identified carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX, CA9) as the direct target of VA. The binding of VA to CA9 causes insulin-induced gene-2 (INSIG2) to interact with stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1), rather than SREBP cleavage-activating protein (SCAP), leading to the translocation of SCAP-SREBP1 from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) to the Golgi apparatus for cleavage into mature SREBP1. The activation of SREBP1 induced by VA then significantly facilitated the transcription of stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1) to exert an inhibitory effect on ferroptosis. By inhibiting the excessive death of intestinal epithelial cells caused by ferroptosis, VA effectively preserved the integrity of intestinal barrier and prevented the progression of unresolved inflammation. In conclusion, our study demonstrated that VA could alleviate colitis by restoring intestinal epithelium homeostasis through CA9/STIM1-mediated inhibition of ferroptosis, providing a promising therapeutic candidate for UC.

Abstract To evaluate myocardial strain in patients with different coronary artery disease-reporting and data system (CAD-RADS) levels using the computed tomography (CT) feature tracking technology and to investigate the relationship of myocardial strain with coronary artery calcium scores (CACs) and the degree of coronary artery stenosis. We prospectively enrolled 237 consecutive patients to undergo coronary CT angiography. The participants were divided into the following groups: control (n = 87), CAD-RADS 1 (n = 43), CAD-RADS 2 (n = 43), CAD-RADS 3 (n = 38), and CAD-RADS 4 and above (n = 26). Myocardial strains were analyzed by commercial software, and CACs and coronary stenosis were assessed on post-processing stations. Differences between multiple groups were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance or the Kruskal–Wallis test. Logistic regression were used to analyze the effects of dichotomous variables. A novel chitosan (CS) functionalized optical fiber sensor with a bullet-shaped hollow cavity was proposed in this work for the trace concentration of Pb2+ ion detection in the water environment. The sensor is an optical fiber Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI), which consists of a sequentially spliced bullet-shaped hollow-core fiber (HCF), thin-core fiber, and another piece of spliced bullet-shaped HCF. The hollow-core fiber is caused to collapse by adjusting the amount of discharge to form a tapered hollow cavity with asymmetric end faces. The bullet-like hollow cavities act as beam expanders and couplers for optical fiber sensors, which were symmetrically spliced at both ends of a section of thin core fiber. The simulation and experiments show that the bullet-like hollow-core tapered cavity excites more cladding modes and is more sensitive to variation in the external environment than the planar and spherical cavities. The ion-imprinted chitosan (IIP-CS) film was fabricated with Pb2+ ion as a template and uniformly coated on the surface for specific recognition of Pb2+. Experimental verification confirms that the developed sensor can achieve high-sensitivity Pb2+ ion detection, with a sensitivity of up to −12.68 pm/ppm and a minimum Pb2+ ion detection concentration of 5.44 ppb Meanwhile, the sensor shows excellent selectivity, repeatability, and stability in the ion detection process, which has huge potential in the direction of heavy metal ion detection in the future.

The aim of this study was to improve the utilization of peanut vines as forage material for ruminants by investigating the degradation pattern of peanut vines in the dairy cow rumen. Samples of peanut vine incubated in cow rumens were collected at various time points. Bacterial diversity was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and 16S rRNA gene sequencing. Carbohydrate-active enzymes (CAZymes) were analyzed by metagenomics. The peanut vines degraded rapidly from 2 to 24 h, before slowing from 24 to 72 h. SEM images confirmed dynamic peanut vine colonization. Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes were the two most dominant bacterial phyla throughout. Principal coordinates analysis indicated significant microbial composition changes at 6 and 24 h. This may be because, in the early stage, soluble carbohydrates that are easily degradable were degraded, while in the later stage, fibrous substances that are difficult to degrade were mainly degraded. Glycoside hydrolases (GHs) were the most abundant CAZymes, with peak relative abundance at 6 h (56.7 trans per million, TPM), and reducing at 24 (55.9 TPM) and 72 h (55.3 TPM). Spearman correlation analysis showed that Alistipes_sp._CAG:435, Alistipes_sp._CAG:514, Bacteroides_sp._CAG:1060, Bacteroides_sp._CAG:545, Bacteroides_sp._CAG:709, Bacteroides_sp._CAG:770, bacterium_F082, bacterium_F083, GH29, GH78, and GH92 were important for plant fiber degradation. These findings provide fundamental knowledge about forage degradation in the cow rumen, and will be important for the targeted improvement of ruminant plant biomass utilization efficiency.

Objectives: This study aimed to establish and implement an interdisciplinary management strategy led by senior nurses via a vascular access specialist team (VAST) at a teaching hospital. Methods: In 2021, the hospital established and implemented a nurse-led VAST management strategy to improve the quality of clinical central line maintenance. The VAST comprised senior nurses specialized in intravenous therapy, ultrasound/radiology technologists, medical doctors with central venous catheterization certificates, central line maintenance nurses, and administrative coordinators. The management strategy mainly included systemic on-the-job training for VAST members, the establishment of an interdisciplinary central line emergency “green channel,” the formation of a VAST-based, nurse-led standardized clinical rounding system, and the standardization of central line self-care instructions for patients. During the pre- (July 2020 to April 2021) and post- (May 2021 to May 2022) of the implementation the interdisciplinary management strategy, overall patients’ self-care ability, the success rate of catheterization at first time, central line management compliance rate, and patients’ satisfaction with catheter maintenance were investigated and compared. Results: The results showed the score self-care ability was increased from 74.75 ± 18.4 (pre-VAST) to 99.10 ± 23.65 (post- VAST); the success rate for catheterization at first time was improved to 100% (225/225), compared to 92.9% (209/225) at pre-VAST; the central line management compliance rate was also increased to 99.6% (224/225) at post-VAST from 93.3% (210/225) at pre-VAST. Abstract Objective To evaluate whether the pretreatment Lung Immune Prognostic Index (LIPI) is associated with outcomes in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients under ICI. Methods A two-center retrospective study of patients with HCC treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) between January 2018 and January 2021 was performed. Based on pretreatment derived neutrophils/ (leukocytes minus neutrophils) ratio (dNLR) greater than 3 and a lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level greater than the normal value, patients were stratified into three groups (good LIPI:0 risk factor, intermediate LIPI: 1 risk factor, and poor LIPI: 2 risk factors). The primary endpoints were overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). The second endpoints were disease control rate (DCR) and objective response rate (ORR). Results In the pooled cohort (n = 224), 80 (35.7%) had a good LIPI (zero factor), 91 (40.6%) had intermediate LIPI (one factor), and 53 (23.7%) had poor LIPI (two factors). The pathogenesis of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the interactions between HNSCC and HPV remain unclear. Bioinformatics was used to analyze the gene expression dataset of HPV-associated HNSCC based on the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in HPV-positive and HPV-negative HNSCC were screened. Gene function enrichment, protein–protein interactions (PPI), survival analysis, and immune cell infiltration of DEGs were performed. Furthermore, the clinical data of HNSCC tissue samples were analyzed using immunohistochemistry. In total, 194 DEGs were identified. A PPI network was constructed and 10 hub genes (EREG, PLCG1, ERBB4, HBEGF, ZFP42, CBX6, NFKBIA, SOCS1, ATP2B2, and CEND1) were identified. Survival analysis indicated that low expression of SOCS1 was associated with worse overall survival. Immunohistochemistry demonstrated that SOCS1 expression was higher in HPV-negative HNSCC than in HPV-positive HNSCC, and there was a positive correlation between SOCS1 expression and patient survival. This study provides new information on biological targets that may be relevant to the molecular mechanisms underpinning the occurrence and development of HNSCC. SOCS1 may play an important role in the interaction between HPV and HNSCC and serve as a potential biomarker for future therapeutic targets.

ObjectivesThis study aimed to create and validate a radiomics nomogram for non-invasive preoperative Ki-67 expression level prediction in patients with bladder cancer (BCa) using contrast-enhanced CT radiomics features.MethodsA retrospective analysis of 135 patients was conducted, 79 of whom had high levels of Ki-67 expression and 56 of whom had low levels. For the dimensionality reduction analysis, the best features were chosen using the least absolute shrinkage selection operator and one-way analysis of variance. Then, a radiomics nomogram was created using multiple logistic regression analysis based on radiomics features and clinical independent risk factors. The performance of the model was assessed using the Akaike information criterion (AIC) value, the area under the curve (AUC) value, accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. The clinical usefulness of the model was assessed using decision curve analysis (DCA).ResultsFinally, to establish a radiomics nomogram, the best 5 features were chosen and integrated with the independent clinical risk factors (T stage) and Rad-score. This radiomics nomogram demonstrated significant correction and discriminating performance in both the training and validation sets, with an AUC of 0.836 and 0.887, respectively. This radiomics nomogram had the lowest AIC value (AIC = 103.16), which was considered to be the best model. When compared to clinical factor model and radiomics signature, DCA demonstrated the more value of the radiomics nomogram.ConclusionEnhanced CT-based radiomics nomogram can better predict Ki-67 expression in BCa patients and can be used for prognosis assessment and clinical decision making.

Accurate daily extreme temperature forecasts are important for public safety. However, traditional Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) methods for temperature forecasting become increasingly costly and time-consuming as forecast resolution improves. To overcome these challenges, recent studies have embraced artificial intelligence (AI) techniques. In this paper, we select five AI models: Multiple linear regression, Support Vector Regressor, Gradient Boosting Regression Tree (GBRT), Long Short-Term Memory, and multilayer perceptron (MLP) to forecast extreme temperatures in nine representative Chinese cities, which are Harbin, Xian, Beijing, and Lhasa in the North and Shanghai, Guiyang, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Haikou in the South. To assess the performances, we compare AI models with two benchmarks: the persistence method by using the previous day's temperature extremes directly, and the prediction from the NWP method of the Global Forecast System (GFS) provided by the National Centers for Environmental Prediction. Among the 7 models forecasting daily extreme temperatures in nine cities, the MLP model outperforms the best, followed by the GBRT model. Compared with the persistence forecast, all 5 AI models and GFS show forecasting ability for daily maximum temperature. However, the GFS performs worse than the persistence model for daily minimum temperature. Specifically, for the MLP model, the average Mean Absolute Errors (MAEs) for forecasting daily maximum and minimum temperatures in the 9 cities are 1.61 °C and 1.14 °C, reducing the GFS model's MAEs for daily maximum and minimum temperatures forecasts by 15% and 45%, respectively. Overall, AI models show promise in enhancing temperature forecasting accuracy.

ABSTRACTHemerocallis citrina Baroni (daylily) is an important cash crop in many regions of China. Daylily rust caused by Puccinia hemerocallidis (Ph) is a major disease in H. citrina. Rust infection on the leaves of two resistant and susceptible varieties of H. citrina was examined. Transcriptome sequencing and defense enzyme activity were used to analyze the differential expression of related genes after 0, 72, 144, 192, and 288 h, to reveal the response mechanism of H. citrina to rust infection and screen-related resistance genes. The results suggested that 72 h after Ph infection was the key time point for determining differences between resistant and susceptible varieties. DEGs were significantly enriched in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, plant–pathogen interaction, plant hormone signal transduction, and the MAPK signaling pathway. TFs WRKY33 and CYP98A are key genes closely related to the disease-resistance response of H. citrina. This study is the first large-scale transcriptomic analysis of H. citrina.

The rich polysaccharides in marine algae cells are the frontier hotspots in the field of marine biomedicine in the future. At present, the accumulation of polysaccharides in marine algae mainly focuses on macroalgae. Compared with macroalgae, marine microalgae have the advantages of wide variety, simple operation, and accurate measurement. They are potential marine biomedical germplasm resources that need to be tapped urgently. This paper started with the development of medicinal marine algae resources, the cultivation of medicinal marine algae, and the environmental assurance analysis of marine biopharmaceuticals, to find out the bottlenecks existing in marine biopharmaceuticals, and to explore feasible solutions. The new concept of "The whole chain of marine microalgae biopharmaceuticals" would lay the foundation for boosting maritime power and enhancing the economic benefits and market competitiveness of marine biomedicine.

Abstract Background RecQ‐mediated genome instability 2 (RMI2) maintains genome stability by promoting DNA damage repair. It has been reported to accelerate the progression of several tumors. However, the functional mechanism of RMI2 in breast cancer remains unclear. Methods Gene expression profiles were obtained from TCGA, GTEx, and GEO databases. The expression of RMI2 and its prognostic value in breast cancer was explored. In addition, we calculated pooled standardized mean deviation (SMD) and performed a summary receiver operating characteristic (sROC) curve analysis to further determine RMI2 expression status and diagnostic significance. The functions and related signaling pathways were investigated based on GO and KEGG analyses. The PPI network was constructed by combining the STRING database and Cytoscape software. Subsequently, in vitro assays were conducted to detect the effect of RMI2 on the proliferation and migration of breast cancer cells. Results The expression of RMI2 was markedly upregulated in breast cancer tissues relative to that in normal tissues. Moreover, pooled SMD further confirmed the overexpression of RMI2 in breast cancer (SMD = 1.29, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.18–1.41, p = 0.000). The sROC curve analysis result suggested that RMI2 had a relatively high diagnostic ability in breast cancer (AUC = 0.87, 95% CI: 0.84–0.90). High RMI2 expression was associated with poor prognosis. GO and KEGG analyses revealed that RMI2 was closely related to cell adhesion, various enzyme activities, and PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. PPI analysis showed that RMI2 had interactions with proteins involved in DNA damage repair. knockdown of RMI2 remarkably inhibited the proliferation and migration of breast cancer cells, while overexpression of RMI2 exerted the opposite effects. Furthermore, we identified that RMI2 accelerates the proliferation and migration of breast cancer cells via activation of the PI3K/AKT pathway. Conclusion The results suggest that RMI2 is a potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker associated with cell proliferation and migration, and may be used as a novel therapeutic target for breast cancer in the future.

Perception-based fidelity evaluation metrics are crucial in driving simulators, as they play a key role in the automatic tuning, assessment, and comparison of motion cueing algorithms. Nevertheless, there is presently no unified and effective evaluation framework for these algorithms. To tackle this challenge, our study initially establishes a model rooted in visual–vestibular interaction and head tilt angle perception systems. We then employ metrics like the Normalized Average Absolute Difference (NAAD), Normalized Pearson Correlation (NPC), and Estimated Delay (ED) to devise an evaluation index system. Furthermore, we use a combined approach incorporating CRITIC and gray relational analysis to ascertain the weights of these indicators. This allows us to consolidate them into a comprehensive evaluation metric that reflects the overall fidelity of motion cueing algorithms. Subjective evaluation experiments validate the reasonableness and efficacy of our proposed Perception Fidelity Evaluation (PFE) method.

Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (2D-TMDs) possess appropriate bandgaps and interact via van der Waals (vdW) forces between layers, effectively overcoming lattice compatibility challenges inherent in traditional heterojunctions. This property facilitates the creation of heterojunctions with customizable bandgap alignments. However, the prevailing method for creating heterojunctions with 2D-TMDs relies on the low-efficiency technique of mechanical exfoliation. Sb2Te3, recognized as a notable p-type semiconductor, emerges as a versatile component for constructing diverse vertical p–n heterostructures with 2D-TMDs. This study presents the successful large-scale deposition of 2D Sb2Te3 onto inert mica substrates, providing valuable insights into the integration of Sb2Te3 with 2D-TMDs to form heterostructures. Building upon this initial advancement, a precise epitaxial growth method for Sb2Te3 on pre-existing WS2 surfaces on SiO2/Si substrates is achieved through a two-step chemical vapor deposition process, resulting in the formation of Sb2Te3/WS2 heterojunctions. Finally, the development of 2D Sb2Te3/WS2 optoelectronic devices is accomplished, showing rapid response times, with a rise/decay time of 305 μs/503 μs, respectively.

The emission factor method (Tier 1) recommended by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is commonly used to estimate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from livestock and poultry farms. However, the estimation accuracy may vary due to practical differences in manure management across China. The objectives of this study were to estimate the direct and indirect nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions from dairy manure management between 1990 and 2021 in China and characterize its spatial and temporal variations following IPCC guideline Tier 2. The N2O emission factor (EF) of dairy cow manure management systems was determined at the national level and regional level as well. The results showed that the national cumulative N2O emission of manure management from 1990 to 2021 was 113.1million tons of CO2 equivalent, ranging from 90.3 to 135.9 million tons with an uncertainty of ±20.2%. The annual EF was 0.021 kg N2O-N (kg N)−1 for total emissions, while it was 0.014 kg N2O-N (kg N)−1 for direct emissions. The proportions of N2O emissions in North China, Northeast China, East China, Central and Southern China, Southwest China and Northwest China were 32.3%, 18.6%, 11.4%, 5.8%, 6.1% and 25.8%, respectively. In addition, N2O emissions varied among farms in different scales. The respective proportions of total N2O emissions from small-scale and large-scale farms were 64.8% and 35.2% in the past three decades. With the improvement in farm management and milk production efficiency, the N2O emissions per unit mass of milk decreased from 0.77 × 10−3 kg to 0.48 × 10−3 kg in 1990–2021. This study may provide important insights into compiling a GHG emission inventory and developing GHG emission reduction strategies for the dairy farming system in China.

The construction of heterojunction is an effective way to promote the photoinduced charge carrier separation in spatial, thus accelerating the photocatalytic reaction. However, the regulation of interface properties, as a crucial factor in affecting the charge carrier diffusion process, still remains a significant challenge. In this work, BiOBr/TpBD-COF heterojunction was successfully constructed via a novel phase transformation strategy. Specifically, perovskite Cs3Bi2Br9 was first synthesized and then in-situ transformed into BiOBr during the preparation of TpBD-COF procedure, thus obtaining BiOBr/TpBD-COF heterojunction with favorable interface. According to the in-situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) characterization and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) analysis, the photogenerated electrons with weak reduction power transfer from BiOBr to TpBD-COF driven by the internal electric field under irradiation, conforming to S-scheme charge transfer mode. As a result, the photogenerated electrons and holes with strong redox abilities are spatially located on TpBD-COF and BiOBr surface, respectively, endowing the strong driving force toward the water splitting reaction. The optimized 10%BiOBr/TpBD-COF displayed remarkably enhanced photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate (16.17 mmol⋅g−1⋅h−1) in comparison with TpBD-COF (5.18 mmol⋅g−1⋅h−1). This study will provide some novel inspirations for developing efficient COF-based S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts.

Abstract Lead halide perovskites have received considerable attention from researchers over the past several years due to their superior optical and optoelectronic properties, because of which they can be a versatile platform for fundamental science research and applications. Patterned structures based on lead halide perovskites have much more novel properties compared with their more commonly seen bulk‐, micro‐, and nano‐crystals, such as improvement in antireflection, light‐scattering effects, and light absorption, as a result of their adjustability of spatial distributions. However, there are many challenges yet to be resolved in this field, such as insufficient patterned resolution, imperfect crystal quality, complicated preparation process, and so on. To pave the way to solve these problems, we provide a systematic presentation of current methods for fabricating lead halide perovskite patterned structures, including thermal imprint, use of etching films, two‐step vapor‐phase growth, template‐confined solution growth, and seed‐assisted growth. Furthermore, the advantages and disadvantages of these methods are elaborated in detail. In addition, thanks to the extraordinary properties of lead halide perovskite patterned structures, a variety of potential applications in optics and optoelectronics of these structures are described. Lastly, we put forward existing challenges and prospects in this exciting field.

Juglans mandshurica (Manchurian walnut) is a precious timber and woody grain and oil species in Northeast China. The heterodichogamous characteristic phenomenon resulted in the non-synchronous flowering and development of male and female flowers, which limited the mating and the yield and quality of fruits. LFY is a core gene in the flowering regulatory networks, which has been cloned in J. mandshurica, and the function has also been verified preliminarily. In this study, the JmLFY promoter sequence with different lengths of 5′-deletion (pLFY1-pLFY6) were cloned and conducted bioinformatics analysis, the promoter activities were analyzed by detecting their driving activity to GUS gene in the tobacco plants that transformed with different promoter sequence stably or transiently. After that, the interaction between JmSOC1 and JmLFY gene promoter was also analyzed via yeast single-hybrid. The results showed that the promoter sequence contains core cis-acting elements essential for eukaryotic promoters, hormone response elements, defense- and stress-responsive elements, flowering-related elements, etc. Transgenic tobacco plants with pLFY1 were obtained by Agrobacterium infection using the pCAMBIA1301 expression vector, and the GUS gene driven by the JmLFY promoter was detected to express in the leaf, stem, flower, and root of the transformed tobacco plant, which indicated that the obtained JmLFY promoter had driving activity. GUS histochemical staining and enzyme activity detection showed that promoter fragments with different lengths had promoter activity and could respond to the induction of long photoperiod, low temperature, salicylic acid (SA), IAA, GA3, and methyl jasmonate (MeJA). The core regulatory region of JmLFY gene promoter in J. mandshurica was between −657 bp and −1,904 bp. Point-to-point validation of yeast single-hybrid confirmed the interaction between JmSOC1 and JmLFY gene promoter, which indicated that JmLFY gene is the downstream target of JmSOC1. These results reveal relevant factors affecting JmLFY gene expression and clarify the molecular mechanism of JmLFY gene regulation in the flower developmental partially, which will provide a theoretical basis for regulating the flowering time by regulating JmLFY gene expression in J. mandshurica.
