Mixed neuroendocrine-nonneuroendocrine neoplasms (MiNENs) of the gastrointestinal tract, particularly gastric MiNENs are rare, and a gastric adenoma that occurs concomitant with a neuroendocrine carcinoma (and not gastric adenocarcinoma) is extremely rare. The clinicopathologic and pathogenetic features of MiNENs remain unclear, and treatment guidelines are currently unavailable. A 75-year-old man patient was referred to our hospital for management of a gastric adenoma. Endoscopy revealed an elevated mucosal lesion (10 mm×10 mm) at the greater curvature of the lower gastric body. The patient underwent endoscopic submucosal dissection for removal of the gastric neoplasm. Histopathological evaluation revealed mixed epithelial dysplasia, low and partly high grade and a neuroendocrine tumor (grade 1). Immunohistochemical analysis showed neoplastic cells with immunopositivity for CD56, synaptophysin, and INSM1, and Ki-67 showed 2.2%. Therefore, the patient was diagnosed with a low-grade gastric MiNEN. We present a rare case of gastric MiNENs (adenoma-neuroendocrine tumor) together with a literature review.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the image changes of two cases of Lumbar intervertebral Disc Sequestration after oriental medical treatment. Methods: We examined 2 patients with Lumbar intervertebral Disc Sequestration who showed changes on MRI images before/after the treatment. And we assessed clinical symptoms by using numeric rating scale(NRS) and straight leg raising test(SLRT). Results & Conclusions : In this study, the first MRI examination of Lumbar intervertebral Disc Sequestration patients was performed at the first visit and re-examination of MRI was done after treatment. In each case, the size of the disc sequestration was considerably reduced in MRI image. And both patients represented effective improvment in NRS score and SLRT test angle.

Objective : This is a clinical report about the 77-years-old man patient with polymyositis treated by oriental medicine. Methods : The paitent was treated by acupuncture and herb medication. The improvement of the patient was judged by MRC scale and CPK, LDH. Results & Conclusions : 1. Patient's symptoms(paraplegia) rapidly improved. 2. The level of CPK, LDH and Potassium are recovered to the normal range. 3. Associated with respiratory symptoms are getting better.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Asthma-depression and Immunoregulation with PR-HAS(Herbal-acupuncture with Platycodi Radix infusion solution) injection at Joksamni(St36) on ovalbumin-induced asthma in mice. Methods : C57BL/6 mice were sensitized and challenged with OVA(ovalbumin) for 12 weeks(once a week). The experimental group(OVA-PR-HA) was treated with concentrations(1%) of PR-HAS at Joksamni(St36) for the later 8 weeks(3times/week). The second experimental group(OVA-Needle prick) was treated with Needle-Prick at Joksamni(St36) for the later 8 weeks(3times/week). Results : 1. The weight and total cells in the mice lung treated with PR-HA decreased significantly compared with that of control group. 2. Total leukocytes and eosinophils in BALF of the mice group treated with PR-HA decreased remarkably compared with those of control group. 3. The sticking of collagen on histological analysis of lung sections, the mice group treated with PR-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group. 4. The concentrations of IL-4, IL-5, IgE in BALF, and IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 in serum of the mice group treated with PR-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group. 5. The number of Gr-1+/CD11b+ and CD11b+ cells in the lungs of the mice group treated with PR-HA decreased significantly compared with that of control group. 6. The numbers of CCR3+ cells, CD4+ cells and CD8+ cells in the lungs, and CD3e+/CD69+ in the lungs of the mice group treated with PR-HA decreased significantly compared with those of control group. 7. The mRNA expression of β-actin, TNF-α, IL-4, IL-5,IL-13 in the mice group treated with PR-HA with RT-PCR decreased significantly compared with those of control group. Conclusion : These result suggests that Platycodi Radix Herbal-acupuncture at Joksamni(St36) in C57BL/6mice may be an effictive part to OVA-induced asthma in C57BL/6 mice.

Objectives : To investigate the effect of Ga-mee-Gwui-ryong-tang herbal acupuncture (GR-HA) at GB39 and ST36 and the effect of Yuk-mee ji-hwang-tang herbal acupuncture (YM-HA) at GB39 and KI10 on growth in mice. Methods : Mice were divided into 7 groups(n=10) ; saline-ST36, saline-GB39, saline-KI10, GR-HA-ST36 group treated with GR-HA at right ST36, GR-HA-GB39 group treated with GR-HA at right GB39, YM-HA-GB39 group treated with YM-HA at right GB39, YM-HA-KI10 group treated with YM-HA at right KI10. Saline-ST36 group, saline-GB39 group and saline-KI10 group were injected with saline at right ST36, GB39, KI10 respectively. Saline injection and HA were performed 3 times a week for 18 days. The length(total height, body length and tail length), weight and the protein efficiency ratio were measured as well as IGF-1 level in serum. Results : 1. GR-HA at GB39 and GR-HA at ST36 promoted growth in weight, tail length and total height but there was no statistical significance. 2. GR-HA at GB39 significantly promoted protein efficiency on the 14th day and GR-HA at ST36 on the 3rd day. 3. GR-HA at GB39 significantly increased serum IGF-1. GR-HA at ST36 increased IGF-1 slightly but with no statistical significance. 4. YM-HA at GB39 and YM-HA at KI10 promoted growth in weight, height, tail length and total height but there was no statistical relevance. 5. YM-HA at GB39 and YM-HA at KI10 significantly promoted protein efficiency on the 14th day. 6. YM-HA at GB39 and YM-HA at KI10 significantly increased serum IGF-1. Serum IGF-1 level of YM-HA-KI10 group was significantly higher than that of YM-HA-GB39 group. 7. Serum IGF-1 level of GR-HA-GB39 group was significantly higher than that of YM-HA-GB39 group. Conclusions : GR-HA and YM-HA both may promote growth. This study suggests that herbal acupuncture at GB39 is more effective with Gwui-ryong-tang than Yuk-mee ji-hwang-tang to promote growth. It also suggests that Yuk-mee ji-hwang-tang herbal acupuncture is more effective at KI10 than at GB39.

Objectives : The purpose of this study was to confirm the suppressive effect against asthma and immune regulatory effect of Perillae Fractusher Herbal-acupuncture at Chok-samni(ST36) on ovalbumin-induced asthma in mice. Methods : C57BL/6 mice were sensitized and challenged with OVA(ovalbumin) for 12 weeks. The mice in the PF-HA group were treated with PF-HA at ST36 for the later 8 weeks(3 times a weeks). The mice in the OVA-Needle-Prink(NP) group were treated with single prick with an injection needle at ST36 for the later 8 weeks(3 times a weeks). Results : 1. The lung weight of the mice treated with PF-HA at St36 were decreased significantly compared with that of the control group. 2. The total leukocytes and eosinophils in BALF of the group treated with PF-HA were decreased significantly compared with those of the control group. 3. Eosinophils in BALF and the collagen accumulation in lung of the mice treated with PF-HA were decreased significantly compared with those of the control group. 4. The Concentrations of IgE, IL-4 and IL-5 in BALF, and IL-4, IL-5 and IL-13 in serum of the PF-HA group were decreased significantly compared with those of the control group. 5. The numbers of CD3-/CCR3+, Gr-1+/CD11b+,CD4+, and CD3e+/CD69+cells in lung of the mice group treated with PF-HA at St36 were decreased significantly compared with those of the control group. 6. The mRNA expressions of TNF-, IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 in lung of the mice group treated with PF-HA at St36 were decreased significantly compared with those of the control group.

INTRODUCTION: This study tested the effectiveness of moxibustion on pain and function in chronic knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and evaluated safety. METHODS: A multi-centre, non-blinded, parallel-group, randomised controlled trial compared moxibustion with usual care (UC) in KOA. 212 South Korean patients aged 40-70 were recruited from 2011-12, stratified by mild (Kellgren/Lawrence scale grades 0/1) and moderate-severe KOA (grades 2/3/4), and randomly allocated to moxibustion or UC for four weeks. Moxibustion involved burning mugwort devices over acupuncture and Ashi points in affected knee(s). UC was allowed. Korean Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Questionnaire (K-WOMAC), Short Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36v2), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), physical performance test, pain numeric rating scale (NRS) and adverse events were evaluated at 5 and 13 weeks. K-WOMAC global score at 5 weeks was the primary outcome. RESULTS: 102 patients (73 mild, 29 moderate-severe) were allocated to moxibustion, 110 (77 mild, 33 moderate-severe) to UC. To evaluate the effects of acupuncture compared to a control group using artificial tears.multicenter randomised controlled trial (three local research hospitals of South Korea).150 patients with moderate to severe dry eye.Participants were randomly allocated into four weeks of acupuncture treatment (bilateral BL2, GB14, TE 23, Ex1, ST1, GB20, LI4, LI11 and single GV23) or to the artificial tears group (sodium carboxymethylcellulose).The ocular surface disease index (OSDI), tear film break-up time (TFBUT), Schirmer Ι test, visual analogue scale (VAS) for self-assessment of ocular discomfort, general assessment (by both acupuncture practitioners and participants) and quality of life (QOL) through the Measure Yourself Medical Outcome Profile-2 (MYMOP-2).There was no statistically significant difference between two groups for the improvement of dry eye symptoms as measured by OSDI (MD -16.11, 95% CI [-20.91, -11.32] with acupuncture and -15.37, 95% CI [-19.57, -11.16] with artificial tears; P = 0.419), VAS (acupuncture: -23.84 [-29.59, -18.09]; artificial tears: -22.2 [-27.24, -17.16], P = 0.530) or quality of life (acupuncture: -1.32 [-1.65, -0.99]; artificial tears: -0.96 [-1.32, -0.6], P = 0.42) immediately after treatment. However, compared with artificial tears group, the OSDI (acupuncture: -16.15 [-21.38, -10.92]; artificial tears: -10.76 [-15.25, -6.27], P = 0.030) and VAS (acupuncture: -23.88 [-30.9, -16.86]; artificial tears: -14.71 [-20.86, -8.55], P = 0.018) were significantly improved in the acupuncture group at 8 weeks after the end of acupuncture treatment. TFBUT measurements increased significantly in the acupuncture group after treatment.Acupuncture may have benefits on the mid-term outcomes related to dry eye syndrome compared with artificial tears.ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01105221.
