Abstract The contributions of height, weight and skeletal age (SA) to strength and motor performances of male soccer players 9–12 (n = 60) and 13–16 (n = 52) years were estimated. SA was assessed with the Fels method, and was expressed as the standardized residual of the regression of SA on chronological age CA (SAsr). Static strength (right + left grip), speed (5 m, 20 m sprints), acceleration (10 to 20 m), agility (figure-of-eight run), explosive strength (vertical jump) and endurance (yo–yo intermittent shuttle run, 13–16 years only) were measured. Hierarchical multiple regression was used. The interaction of SAsr with body size (height and height x weight interaction) explained most of the variance in strength in both age groups, 9–12 years (51.6%) and 13–16 years (56.7%), and in speed (31.4%, 38.7%), acceleration (39.6%), and explosive strength (32.6%) among players 13–16 years. In contrast, SAsr alone explained limited amounts of variance in strength, speed, acceleration and vertical jump among players 9–12 years (1.4–4.5%) and 13–16 years (0–0.5%). Results for agility varied with CA group, while SAsr per se was the primary contributor to endurance among players 13–16 years (18.5% of the variance). Although the influence of body size and skeletal maturity status on performances was significant, the explained variance differed among tasks and between CA groups, and suggested a role for other factors affecting performances of the soccer players.

The presence of hydrogen absorbed by zirconium-based cladding materials during reactor operation can trigger degradation mechanisms and endanger the rod integrity. Ensuring the durability of the rods in extended timeframes like dry storage requires anticipating hydrogen behavior using numerical modeling. In this context, the present paper describes a hydrogen post-processing tool for Falcon – HYPE, a PSI's in-house tool able to calculate hydrogen uptake, transport, thermochemistry, reorientation of hydrides and hydrogen-related failure criteria. The tool extracts all necessary data from a Falcon output file; therefore, it can be considered loosely coupled to Falcon. HYPE has been successfully validated against experimental data and applied to reactor operation and interim storage scenarios to present its capabilities.

We aimed to estimate and compare networks of work addiction among Norwegian and Polish working individuals. The Bergen Work Addiction Scale was used to measure work addiction in four samples, two comprising responses of working Norwegians ( n 1 = 16,426; n 2 = 764) and two comprising responses of working Poles ( n 3 = 719; n 4 = 711). The networks were estimated jointly with the fused graphic lasso method. Additionally, we estimated symptoms’ centrality, symptoms’ predictability, and networks’ stability, as well as quantitatively compared the four networks. The results showed highly similar networks across the four samples. There were several strong direct relationships between symptoms. The most and the least central symptoms were Relapse and Mood modification, respectively. Mean symptom predictability varied between 22.6 and 28.3% across samples. We discussed the possible intervention strategies based on the obtained results.

This study investigates the phase composition, microstructure, and their influence on the properties of Mo-W-C nanocomposite films deposited by dual-source magnetron sputtering. The synthesised films consist of metal carbide nanograins embedded in an amorphous carbon matrix. It has been found that nanograins are composed of the hexagonal β-(Mo2 + W2)C phase at a low carbon source power. An increase in the power results in the change in the structure of the carbide nanoparticles from a single-phase to a mixture of the β-(Mo2 + W2)C and NaCl-type α-(Mo + W)C(0.65≤k≤1) solid-solution phases. The analysis of electrical properties demonstrates that the nanograin structure of the films favours the occurrence of hopping conductivity. The double-phase structure leads to a twofold increase in the relaxation time compared to the single-phase one. Films with both types of nanograin structures exhibit tunnelling conductance without the need for thermal activation. The average distance between the potential wells produced by the carbide nanograins in nanocomposite films is approximately 3.4 ± 0.2 nm. A study of tribomechanical properties showed that Mo-W-C films composed of a mixture of the β-(Mo2 + W2)C and α-(Mo + W)C(0.65≤k≤1) phases have the highest hardness (19–22 GPa) and the lowest friction coefficient (0.15–0.24) and wear volume (0.00302–0.00381 mm2). Such a combination of electrical and tribomechanical properties demonstrates the suitability of Mo-W-C nanocomposite films for various micromechanical devices and power electronics.

Estimated ages at take-off (TO) and at peak height velocity (PHV) based on two models and maturity status based upon age at PHV and skeletal age (SA) were compared in a longitudinal sample of male soccer players. In addition, estimated ages at PHV in 13 longitudinal samples of soccer players were compared. The longitudinal height records of 58 players of European ancestry, measured annually on four or five occasions between 11 and 16 years, were modeled with Superimposition by Translation and Rotation (SITAR) and Functional Principal Component Analysis (FPCA) to estimate ages at TO and PHV. SAs were assessed with the Fels method. Ages at PHV in 13 longitudinal samples of soccer players (Europe 7, Japan 6) were evaluated with meta-analysis. Estimated ages at TO, 11.2± 0.8 (SITAR) and 11.0± 0.8 (FCPA) years, and at PHV, 13.6± 0.9 (SITAR) and 13.7±0.0 (FCPA) years, were similar. An earlier age at PHV was associated with advanced skeletal maturity status (rho = -0.77 at ~14 years). Ages at PHV among European players indicated a north (later) – south (earlier) gradient, and were later than ages at PHV among Japanese players. In summary, ages at TO and PHV were similar with SITAR and FPCA, and ages at PHV were most strongly correlated with SA at ~14 years. Mean ages at PHV showed a north-south gradient among European samples, and were later compared to Japanese samples.

The Polish State, with due regard to the time constraints on its continuity, is perceived from the perspective of more than a thousand years. Simultaneously, as an organised entity with its own values, it has been a mental problem for Poles since the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries and is continued until now. Thus, the reflections here have been restricted to the mentioned period because it is then that the main drawbacks of the Polish State began to occur. They include a description of these major flaws as we understand them and their effects. We often express the belief that our state disappeared from the map of Europe mainly due to the actions of our aggressive and finally partitioning neighbours. However, in doing so, we distance ourselves from the mistakes in managing the state made by the generations of our ancestors. This article analyses and exemplifies a deeper, critical academic reflection on these errors committed internally during the mentioned period and visible until today.

The Central Liquidation Commission in the Duchy of Warsaw between 1808 and 1812 The subject of the analysis concerns one of the administrative-legal aspects related to military requisitions in the period of the Duchy of Warsaw, namely, the claims of the population resulting from unsatisfied dues for war requisitions and material losses in households which occurred as a result of military operations conducted on Polish soil in the early 19th century. In light of the regulations adopted by the authorities of the Duchy of Warsaw, these claims were to be settled in the manner indicated, while future public burdens were to be settled on the basis of the principle of equity in the form of co-equation, i.e. the equalisation of duties for the benefit of the army. The Central Liquidation Commission – the state body appointed to carry out the liquidation of claims – was established in 1808. Its main duty was to carry out activities such as the receipt, consideration, and determination of claims against the State Treasury.

Abstract External workloads associated Hockey 5 s, the new version of youth field hockey, were evaluated in 31 elite U16 male field players (15.4 ± 0.7 years) from three national teams. Mixed-longitudinal observations for the 31 players provided complete data for 33 forwards and 43 defenders. Activities of the players during games were monitored with the GPSports SPI Elite System with a sampling frequency of 10 Hz and were analysed with GPSports Team AMS (version R1 2015.14, Australia). Observed variables did not differ between forwards and defenders, and the three periods of play were differentiated only by maximal speed in the second and third periods. The greatest distances covered were in speed zone 3 (10.0–15.9 km h−1; 35.5–38.2%) and the smallest in speed zones 4 (16.0–22.9 km h−1; 14.8–15.6%) and 5 (> 23 km h−1; 0.4–1.4%). The trends indicated high intensity levels for the entire match and by position and periods. Active time of forwards and defenders accounted for about one-half of a game’s duration (~ 15.7 of 30 min). Overall, the Hockey 5s format was highly demanding of players and included relatively short intervals for recovery. The results emphasize the need for preparation that includes specific mixed anaerobic and aerobic training and also the importance of recovery during breaks.

Background: Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) is a joint disorder predominantly affecting the knee, elbow, and ankle of children and adolescents. This comprehensive review delves into the epidemiology, etiology, clinical manifestations, diagnostic approaches, and treatment of OCD. Results: The most common cause of OCD is repetitive microtrauma, typically associated with sports activities, alongside other significant factors such as genetic predisposition, ischemia, and obesity. In early stages or when lesions are small, OCD often presents as non-specific, vaguely localized pain during physical activity. As the condition progresses, patients may experience an escalation in symptoms, including increased stiffness and occasional swelling, either during or following activity. These symptom patterns are crucial for early recognition and timely intervention. Diagnosis in most cases is based on radiographic imaging and magnetic resonance imaging. Nonsurgical treatment of OCD in young patients with open growth plates and mild symptoms involves activity restriction, immobilization methods, and muscle strengthening exercises, with a return to sports only after symptoms are fully resolved and at least six months have passed. Surgical treatment of OCD includes subchondral drilling in mild cases. Unstable lesions involve methods like restoring the joint surface, stabilizing fractures, and enhancing blood flow, using techniques such as screws, anchors, and pins, along with the removal of fibrous tissue and creation of vascular channels. The specifics of OCD treatment largely depend on the affected site. Conclusions: This synthesis of current research and clinical practices provides a nuanced understanding of OCD, guiding future research directions and enhancing therapeutic strategies.

We say that two n-vertex hypergraphs H1 and H2 pack if they can be found as edge-disjoint subhypergraphs of the complete hypergraph Kn. Whilst the problem of packing of graphs (i.e., 2-uniform hypergraphs) has been studied extensively since seventies, much less is known about packing of k-uniform hypergraphs for k ≥ 3. Naroski [Packing of nonuniform hypergraphs - product and sum of sizes conditions, Discuss. Math. Graph Theory 29 (2009) 651–656] defined the parameter mk(n) to be the smallest number m such that there exist two n-vertex k-uniform hypergraphs with total number of edges equal to m which do not pack, and conjectured that mk(n) = Θ (nk−1). In this note we show that this conjecture is far from being truth. Namely, we prove that the growth rate of mk(n) is of order nk/2 exactly for even k’s and asymptotically for odd k’s.

The paper discusses the need for a fully-distributed selfishness detection mechanism dedicated for multihop wireless ad hoc networks which nodes may exhibit selfish forwarding behavior. The main contribution of this paper is an introduction to a novel approach for detecting and coping with the selfish nodes. Paper describes a new framework based on Dempster-Shafer theory-based selfishness detection framework (DST-SDF) with some mathematical background and simulation analysis.

This work reports on changes in the properties of ultra-thin PECVD silicon oxynitride layers after high- temperature treatment. Possible changes in the structure, composition and electrophysical properties were investigated by means of spectroscopic ellipsometry, XPS, SIMS and electrical characterization methods (C-V, I-V and charge- pumping). The XPS measurements show that SiOxNy is the dominant phase in the ultra-thin layer and high-temperature annealing results in further increase of the oxynitride phase up to 70% of the whole layer. Despite comparable thickness, SIMS measurement indicates a densification of the annealed layer, because sputtering time is increased. It suggests complex changes of physical and chemical properties of the investigated layers taking place during high-temperature annealing. The C-V curves of annealed layers exhibit less frequency dispersion, their leakage and charge-pumping currents are lower when compared to those of as-deposited layers, proving improvement in the gate structure trapping properties due to the annealing process.

In this paper differences in chemical composition of ultra-thin silicon oxynitride layers fabricated in planar rf plasma reactor are studied. The ultra-thin dielectric layers were obtained in the same reactor by two different methods: ultrashallow nitrogen implantation followed by plasma oxidation and plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD). Chemical composition of silicon oxynitride layers was investigated by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). The spectroscopic ellipsometry was used to determine both the thickness and refractive index of the obtained layers. The XPS measurements show considerable differences between the composition of the fabricated layers using each of the above mentioned methods. The SIMS analysis confirms XPS results and indicates differences in nitrogen distribution.

The goal of this work was to study nitrogen implantation from plasma with the aim of applying it in dual gate oxide technology and to examine the influence of the rf power of plasma and that of oxidation type. The obtained structures were examined by means of ellipsometry, SIMS and electrical characterization methods.

Experiments presented in this work are a summary of the study that examines the possibility of fabrication of oxynitride layers for Si structures by nitrogen implantation from rf plasma only or nitrogen implantation from rf plasma followed immediately by plasma oxidation process. The obtained layers were characterized by means of: ellipsometry, XPS and ULE-SIMS. The results of electrical characterization of NMOS Al-gate test structures fabricated with the investigated layers used as gate dielectric, are also discussed.

The article analyses the concepts of and proposals for constitutional reforms put forward by one of the Polish democratic political groups, which was established in exile after the fall of the November Uprising (1830-1831). Young Poland, which was a part of an international conspiratorial organisation founded by Giuseppe Mazzini (Young Europe), an organisation marked by revolutionary democratism, which, according to Polish emigrants, meant primarily striving for national character, seeing its goal in regaining national independence lost by Poland as a result of partitions. In addition, however, the concepts of members of Young Poland strongly emphasized both Christian and Utopian socialist themes. The foundation of these concepts referred to republican ideas that arose from the Great French Revolution and were based on the principles of freedom, equality and fraternity.

IntroductionRecently, the network theory of mental disorders has been used to conceptualize work addiction as a dynamic system of symptoms in direct relationships. This study aimed to extend previous work by investigating the direct relationships of work addiction symptoms with dimensions of work engagement, job burnout, and perceived stress.MethodsThese phenomena were measured with the Bergen Work Addiction Scale, the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale, the Maslach Burnout Inventory–General Survey, and the Perceived Stress Scale. The sample comprised 676 working Poles with a mean age of 36.12 years (SD = 11.23). The network analysis followed the guidelines for estimating psychological networks from cross-sectional data.ResultsWork engagement and job burnout were more closely associated with each other than with work addiction which supports the notion that engagement and burnout represent polar opposites of the same construct and that work addiction is a separate phenomenon, related to both work engagement and job burnout via specific pathways. The symptoms of work addiction were connected with other phenomena through four direct relationships: (1) mood modification—absorption, (2) mood modification—stress, (3) withdrawal—absorption, and (4) problems—exhaustion.DiscussionThese findings narrow down and specify hypotheses regarding potential mechanisms leading from engagement to addiction and from addiction to burnout. The possible mechanisms focus on the absorption component and mood modification related to efforts focused on alleviating chronic stress and negative emotional states. In turn, problems arising from work addiction may lead to exhaustion. Future studies investigating these mechanisms in detail may enable proper prevention programs and therapeutic interventions.

The article analyses the reforms of agrarian relations, which were carried out during the first years of the Duchy of Warsaw, created as a result of the peace treaties of 1807. The legal status of peasants was at that time initially regulated in a general way by the provisions of the Constitution granted by Napoleon Bonaparte on 22 July 1807. These provisions were then made more specific with the promulgation of the Decree of 21 December 1807, which brought about the abolition of serfdom and allowed peasants to move within the territory of the Duchy. According to the Decree, the land was the property of the lord and a peasant leaving the village should return the land to the lord along with the crops, the buildings and the livestock. This meant that after the Decree came into force, there was a possibility of unlimited eviction of peasants, as well as increasing serfdom burdens. It should be noted, however, that due to the considerable depopulation of the country at that time and the emerging difficulties in providing manpower for the manor house, eviction was used relatively rarely. Nevertheless, later on, the reform carried out by this Decree was said to “remove peasant’s boots along with his shackles”. In this article, the author analyses the provisions of this Decree in the context of regulations resulting from the Constitution of the Duchy, Napoleonic Code and the Decree of 23 February 1809 introducing a temporary organisation of rural communes. The reflections on peasant reforms in this period were supplemented by an analysis of the socio-economic situation in the lands forming the Duchy and selected statements that appeared in the relevant literature on the peasant question from the past till the present.

This study aimed to investigate the influence of head position on the electromyographical activity of the core muscles during the prone plank exercise. Twenty healthy participants were enrolled in this study. Muscle activation was registered using surface electromyography in the rectus abdominis, external oblique, internal oblique, and the lumbar portion of erector spinae. Three plank conditions were randomly evaluated, varying the position of the cranio-cervical segment during the plank performance (neutral, flexion and extension). The activation of each individual examined muscle and the overall core muscle activity (Total Intensity), as well as the ratings of perceived exertion were analysed with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. Flexion revealed significantly higher Total Intensity values compared to neutral and extension (p < 0.001; effect size (ES) > 0.90). The rectus abdominis presented larger activation in flexion compared to the other variations (p < 0.05; ES > 0.70). Flexion elicited a greater response for both sides of external oblique when compared to neutral and extension, and also for both sides of internal oblique compared to the other conditions (p < 0.05; ES > 0.70). Both flexion and extension reported higher exertion rating values compared to neutral (p < 0.05; ES > 0.90). Head position influenced the electromyographical activation of core musculature, showing highest values when performing the plank in a head flexion.

Ligandrol, also known as LGD-4033, belongs to the group of selective androgen receptor modulators (SARMs). Ligandrol was first included in the WADA Prohibited List in 2018. This work presents a method that allows for the detection and identification of ligandrol and its metabolite in athletes’ urine and in dietary supplements by means of ultra performance liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC–MS/MS). Samples were prepared according to an approach involving acid hydrolysis and double liquid–liquid extraction (LLE). Furthermore, due to the lack of reference material for ligandrol metabolites, the urine collected from the control excretion study was analyzed. The presented method is appropriate to monitor ligandrol and its metabolites. The samples collected for doping control purpose contained multiple metabolites, which may potentially rule out the hypothesis of ingesting a single 1 µg or 10 µg dose only. Another aspect to take into account is that ligandrol can be applied together with SARMs, steroids, and GHSs. This will also affect the substances’ metabolism and elimination. It is also worth noting that dietary supplements may contain ligandrol as an official ingredient or as a contaminant. The described method may be usefully applied by other anti-doping or toxicological laboratories.

Przedmiot badań niniejszej analizy związany jest z francuskimi regulacjami prawnymi w zakresie rekwizycji wojskowych będącymi elementem spójnego systemu obrony państwa, który opiera się w sferze normatywnej na zasadniczym akcie prawnym, jakim jest Kodeks Obrony (Le code de la defense) z 2004 roku. W trakcie rozważań autor przedstawia zakres rozwiązań prawnych odnoszących się do rekwizycji wojskowych, procedury ich dokonywania, systemu rekompensat i odszkodowań oraz sankcji karnych ustanowionych za przekroczenie przepisów rekwizycyjnych.

Seventeen scientists met for this year’s conference on Auxology held at Krobielowice castle, Poland, to discuss growth and public health concerns. The regulation of growth is complex and besides metabolic and endocrine components including hypothalamic releasing factors, growth hormone and multiple downstream effectors, comprises the full spectrum of the psychosocial, economic and emotional environment including signaling dominance, competence, prestige, or subordination and indulgence, all of this being sensitive to urban or rural lifestyle, the political climate and with marked plasticity throughout history. New statistical techniques (St. Nicolas House Analysis) are presented for analyzing anthropometric variables for public health concerns. The impact of spatial differences on developmental tempo, growth in height, and the prevalence of childhood obesity are discussed as well as the impact of social mobility on obesity, and the benefits of the biopsychosocial status when getting along with socio-economic disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Osteonecrosis (ON) is usually a progressive disease that negatively affects the quality of life and leads to significant disability. Most patients are aged 30–50 years and require multiple surgical interventions throughout their lifetime. In non-traumatic ON, alcohol abuse and corticosteroids are involved in up to 80% of cases. This narrative review aims to summarize data on their impact on healthy bone and the development of pathophysiological processes leading to ON development. We conducted EMBASE and MEDLINE database reviews to identify relevant research. We found that for both agents, the risk was time and dose-dependent. ON in alcohol and steroid use shared many pathogenetic mechanisms leading to the development of necrosis, including increased adipogenesis, the induction of chronic inflammation, vascular alterations, and impaired bone-cell differentiation. Because both alcohol and steroid use are modifiable factors, both general physicians and orthopedic surgeons should encourage patients to limit ethanol intake and avoid corticosteroid overuse. In the presence of ON, because both alcohol- and steroid-induced disease tend to be multifocal, addiction treatment and limiting steroid use are justified.

The Obligation to Provide Housing for Military and Civilian Use between 1919 and 1925 in Light of the Legislation and Judicial Decisions of the Supreme Administrative Tribunal In connection with the dramatic shortage of residential accommodations in the first years of Polish statehood after the regaining of independence in 1918, the way to guarantee their provision for military personnel (officers and married non-commissioned officers) and civilians (state and local government officials) was a statutory obligation to provide them by means of legal administrative coercion. The aim of this article is to analyse issues relating to the requisitioning of flats, and in particular, to analyse the sources of legislation in this area at that time, and judicial decisions of the administrative court with regard to complaints made to this court in cases concerning these requisitions.

Studies of age at menarche in Poland have a long history and consistently show an urban-rural gradient. The objectives of the study were to to estimate the age at menarche among school girls resident in ten rural communities of the Greater Poland province in 2016 and to compare ages at menarche by weight status and by population growth. The sample included 1146 girls, 7–16 years of age, resident in ten rural communities. Menarcheal status was obtained via interview. Heights and weights were measured; the BMI was calculated. Based on the latter, the girls were classified as thin, normal weight and overweight (including the obese) relative to IOTF criteria. Population growth between 1986 and 2016 in each community was estimated from local records. Ages at menarche were estimated with the probit regression protocol (SPSS) using the logistic model with log 10 transformation for the total sample and for the subsamples by weight status and population growth. The median age at menarche for the total sample of rural girls was 13.25±0.20 years. Menarche was earlier among Overweight (13.06±0.32 years) compared to Normal Weight (13.25±0.37 years) and Thin (13.81±0.41 years), and among girls resident in communities with Major population growth (12.58±0.44 years) compared to Little/No growth (13.65±0.14 years). Results of the present survey were generally consistent with recent surveys of age at menarche among rural girls in Poland and among girls classified by weight status. Corresponding comparative data relating menarche to population growth are lacking.

Baseline characteristics of 31 healthy male U15 soccer players who were classified as select or non-select at the end of the season were compared. Players were 14.4 ± 0.54 years (13.6–15.3 years) at baseline; characteristics included body size, proportions and composition, estimated maturity status, several functional capacities, and coach classifications of potential in the sport. Decisions regarding selection or nonselection were made about two months after baseline. Select and non-select U15 soccer players differed significantly in estimated maturity status, body size, proportions and estimated muscle mass, functional tests related to speed, power and strength, and coach evaluation of potential, specifically tactical skills on offense and skills associated with creativity and decision making. When age and biological maturity status were statistically controlled, select and non-select players differed significantly only on the vertical jump, grip strength, and coach ratings of tactical skills on offense and of creativity and decision making. Results of stepwise discriminant analysis highlighted the importance of coach evaluation of tactical skills associated with offense, and of power and strength in distinguishing select from non-select players. The results highlight the dvantages of advanced biological maturity status among adolescent male soccer players and also the importance of oach perceptions of talent. The latter implies a need for further study of the basis of coach perceptions, specifically how they are influenced by and perhaps interact with player characteristics at different ages, and how the perceptions influence playing time and player behaviors and interactions.

The article presents the assumptions, characteristics and description of the implementation of a pilot systemfor on-line monitoring of partial discharges in heads of the high-voltage cable lines. The main purpose ofthe implementation was to increase the reliability of cable line heads by equipping them with a system ofcontinuous assessment of technical condition with direct transmission of measurement data and alarms tothe SCADA system. In order to achieve the assumed goal, unconventional methods for measuring partialdischarges were used, the application of which does not require disconnecting the line from the voltage.The implementation was carried out on an active 110 kV high voltage cable line in the area of activity ofone of the Distribution System Operators.

Wejście w życie Europejskiego kodeksu łączności elektronicznej ma ogromne znaczenie dla ochrony prywatności użytkowników usług Over-the-Top (OTT), określanych również jako „usługi świadczone ponad siecią”, które kwalifikują się jako usługi łączności interpersonalnej (art. 2 pkt 5). Przykładem takich usług są m.in. komunikatory i poczta internetowa. Ograniczenia przewidziane w art. 5, 6 i 9 dyrektywy 2002/58/WE („dyrektywa o prywatności i łączności elektronicznej”) mają bezpośrednie zastosowanie do dostawców tych usług. W konsekwencji w większości przypadków przetwarzanie informacji zawartych w łączności elektronicznej i powiązanych metadanych wygenerowanych w trakcie świadczenia usług OTT-1 wymaga zgody użytkownika. Jedyne wyjątki mogą być prawnie dozwolone zgodnie z art. 15 ust. 1 dyrektywy o prywatności i łączności elektronicznej.

The purpose of this study was to determine intra- and inter-observer agreement for the three skeletal ages derived from the TW2 method among male pubertal soccer players. The sample included 142 participants aged 11.0-15.3 years. Films of the left hand-wrist were evaluated twice by each of two observers. Twenty bones were rated and three scoring systems used to determine SA adopting the TW2 version: 20-bone, CARPAL and RUS. Overall agreement rates were 95.1% and 93.8% for, respectively, Observer A and Observer B. Although, agreement rates between observers differed for 13 bones (5 carpals, metacarpal-I, metacarpal-III, metacarpal-V, proximal phalanges-I, III and V, distal phalanx-III), intra-class correlationa were as follows: 0.990 (20-bone), 0.969 (CARPAL), and 0.988 (RUS). For the three SA protocols, BIAS was negligible: 0.02 years (20-bone), 0.04 years (CARPAL), and 0.03 years (RUS). Observer-associated error was not significant for 20-bone SA (TEM = 0.25 years, %CV = 1.86) neither RUS SA (TEM = 0.31 years, %CV = 2.22). Glucocorticoids (GCs) are a group of the most important and commonly used anti-inflammatory, antiallergenic, and immunosuppressive drugs. Like narcotics, they can be addictive if taken at increasing doses to achieve greater analgesic effects. The purpose of the study was to develop initial and confirmation testing analytical methods that would allow for the identification of glucocorticoid class substances in human urine to be used for routine analyses for the purposes of prosecution in the case of abuse, for clinical toxicology, medical jurisprudence, as well as for routine testing of athletes for the presence of prohibited substances in sports by means of ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) using a new generation ionization source UniSprayTM (U.S). This new method allows for the simultaneous detection of 27 glucocorticoids in human urine using LC-MS/MS. The tests conducted yielded relatively low LOD and LOQ values, ranging from 0.06 ng/mL to 0.14 ng/mL and 0.75 ng/mL for LOD and LOQ, respectively.

Objectives Studies have demonstrated high rates of mortality in people with proximal femoral fracture and SARS-CoV-2, but there is limited published data on the factors that influence mortality for clinicians to make informed treatment decisions. This study aims to report the 30-day mortality associated with perioperative infection of patients undergoing surgery for proximal femoral fractures and to examine the factors that influence mortality in a multivariate analysis.Setting Prospective, international, multicentre, observational cohort study.Participants Patients undergoing any operation for a proximal femoral fracture from 1 February to 30 April 2020 and with perioperative SARS-CoV-2 infection (either 7 days prior or 30-day postoperative).Primary outcome 30-day mortality. Multivariate modelling was performed to identify factors associated with 30-day mortality.Results This study reports included 1063 patients from 174 hospitals in 19 countries. Overall 30-day mortality was 29.4% (313/1063). In an adjusted model, 30-day mortality was associated with male gender (OR 2.29, 95% CI 1.68 to 3.13, p80 years (OR 1.60, 95% CI 1.1 to 2.31, p=0.013), preoperative diagnosis of dementia (OR 1.57, 95% CI 1.15 to 2.16, p=0.005), kidney disease (OR 1.73, 95% CI 1.18 to 2.55, p=0.005) and congestive heart failure (OR 1.62, 95% CI 1.06 to 2.48, p=0.025). Mortality at 30 days was lower in patients with a preoperative diagnosis of SARS-CoV-2 (OR 0.6, 95% CI 0.6 (0.42 to 0.85), p=0.004). There was no difference in mortality in patients with an increase to delay in surgery (p=0.220) or type of anaesthetic given (p=0.787).Conclusions Patients undergoing surgery for a proximal femoral fracture with a perioperative infection of SARS-CoV-2 have a high rate of mortality. This study would support the need for providing these patients with individualised medical and anaesthetic care, including medical optimisation before theatre. Careful preoperative counselling is needed for those with a proximal femoral fracture and SARS-CoV-2, especially those in the highest risk groups.Trial registration number NCT04323644

We present basic differences in the musculoskeletal ultrasound examinations between adults and children. Examiners who deal with adults on a daily basis have shared concerns about examining children. Such concerns may arise from the different approach to child ultrasounds, but they also come from differences in anatomical characteristics according to developmental age. We discuss the presence of growth plates, as well as non-mineralized parts of the bones. We also refer to the pathologies most often found in ultrasounds in early developmental stages. In the PubMed database, the set of keywords: “msk ultrasound in children”, “pediatric msk sonoanatomy”, “coxitis fugax”, “pediatric Baker’s cyst”, “Baker’s cyst ultrasonography”, “bone septic necrosis in ultrasonography”, “ultrasonography in juvenile idiopathic arthritis”, and “ultrasonography in juvenile spondyloarthropathies”, was used to identify a total of 1657 results, from which 54 was selected to be included in the article. We discuss the problem of osteochondritis dissecans, Osgood-Schlatter disease, examples of ligament injuries (especially in relation to the knee and ankle joints), exfoliation of growth cartilages, osteochondroma, exudates and inflammations affecting joints, and Baker’s cysts. In this way, we have collected useful information about the most common diseases of the musculoskeletal system in children.

Będąca przedmiotem niniejszej analizy instytucja rekwizycji przynależy do materii związanych z obowiązkiem ponoszenia świadczeń rzeczowych przez ludność znajdującą się na obszarze działań zbrojnych, stanowiąc pole zainteresowania przede wszystkim nauki prawa międzynarodowego publicznego i prawa ad­ministracyjnego. Instytucja rekwizycji wojennej, rozumianej jako sposób pozyskiwania na potrzeby zaopatrze­nia wojsk istotnych z jego punktu widzenia przedmiotów, posiada wielowiekową tradycję i pozostaje związana z działaniami wojennymi prowadzonymi na przestrzeni wieków przez poszczególne narody i państwa. Celem artykułu jest analiza zagadnień normatywnych związanych ze stosowaniem tej instytucji przez wojsko polskie w okresie wojny polsko-bolszewickiej 1920 r., w świetle ówczesnego ustawodawstwa regulującego tę materię oraz orzecznictwa sądów polskich w tym zakresie po zakończeniu działań wojennych.

Twenty-three scientists met at Krobielowice, Poland to discuss the role of growth, nutrition and economy on body size. Contrasting prevailing concepts, re-analyses of studies in Indonesian and Guatemalan school children with high prevalence of stunting failed to provide evidence for an association between nutritional status and body height. Direct effects of parental education on growth that were not transmitted via nutrition were shown in Indian datasets using network analysis and novel statistical methods (St. Nicolas House Analysis) that translate correlation matrices into network graphs. Data on Polish children suggest significant impact of socioeconomic sensitivity on child growth, with no effect of maternal money satisfaction. Height and maturation tempo affect the position of a child among its peers. Correlations also exist between mood disorders and height. Secular changes in height and weight varied across decades independent of population size. Historic and recent Russian data showed that height of persons whose fathers performed manual work were on average four cm shorter than persons whose fathers were high-degree specialists. Body height, menarcheal age, and body proportions are sensitive to socioeconomic variables. Additional topics included delayed motherhood and its associations with newborn size; geographic and socioeconomic indicators related to low birth weight, prematurity and stillbirth rate; data on anthropometric history of Brazil, 1850-1950; the impact of central nervous system stimulants on the growth of children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder; and pituitary development and growth hormone secretion. Final discussions debated on reverse causality interfering between social position, and adolescent growth and developmental tempo.

Przedmiotem niniejszej analizy jest proces reform w zakresie organizacji Kościoła rzymskokatolickiego we Francji, jakie przeprowadzono w pierwszym okresie Rewolucji, kiedy to Zgromadzenie Narodowe podjęło się próby etatyzacji Kościoła. W okresie tym nie występują jeszcze oznaki jawnej dechrystianizacji i ateizacji. Reformy parlamentarne dotyczą spraw organizacyjnych, majątkowych i osobowych Kościoła, których zwieńczeniem było uchwalenie konstytucji cywilnej duchowieństwa w dniu 12 lipca 1790 r., co pociągnęło jednakże za sobą wzrost niezadowolenia duchowieństwa, które popierało do tego czasu dotychczasowe przemiany, oraz doprowadziło do rozłamu i podziału wewnątrz łona organizacji kościelnej. Ustawodawstwo w sprawach kościelnych spotkało się z potępieniem ze strony papieża Piusa VI i spowodowało wzrost nastrojów antyrewolucyjnych szczególnie na prowincji. W trakcie analizy autor nieraz korzysta dla celów poznawczych z metody porównawczej, przywołując rozwiązania w zakresie stosunków wyznaniowych wprowadzone w kolejnych latach Rewolucji i rządów Napoleona, które modyfikowały omówione rozwiązania będące właściwym przedmiotem badań.

Abstract Background When a conservative management of gonarthrosis yields unsatisfactory results, a total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is recommended as an alternative approach. The implant survival is crucial for the long-term success of the procedure. However, in case of patients with retained hardware after past orthopedic procedures, providing correct alignment of the implant, which contributes to its longevity, is especially challenging. Here we present the use of an intra-operative ultrasonography for implant positioning in a 83-year-old male, undergoing TKA, without hardware removal, which was contraindicated due to his advanced age and comorbidities. Other imaging modalities taken into consideration are also described. Case presentation The right knee joint was approached with anterior incision. A femoral guide was introduced extramedullary. Ultrasonography was used to pinpoint the center of the femur’s head. Tibial’s guide was introduced intramedullary followed by a standard cut of the proximal part. Cemented ZIMMER NEXGEN prosthesis was used. Layered closure was applied. The placement of implant in neutral axis was confirmed on radiographs. Conclusions Our case demonstrates that ultrasonography might be helpful during TKA-procedure for implant positioning. However, more studies are needed to evaluate accuracy and application of ultrasound in the intraoperative settings.

The aim of this article is to analyse the issues related to a political upheaval as a form of the succession of royal power in the monarchy of united Israel in the period that started during the reign of the first king of the Hebrews – Saul – till the last years David spent on the throne. During the period analysed in this article, there were several unsuccessful attempts to seize power through a political coup. Due to the fact that the inheritance based on the principle of primogeniture was never unambiguously introduced in the Kingdom of Israel, the most serious upheaval, described as a palace revolution, took place at the end of King David’s life. As a result, the younger son of David – Solomon – ascended to Israel’s throne, despite the fact that there were no legitimate grounds for him to take power.

Medial epicondylalgia (ME), commonly known as “the golfer’s elbow”, typically develops in individuals who perform repetitive forearm movements and weight-bearing activities. It accounts for up to 20% of all epicondylitis cases and is most prevalent in particular sports and occupations. Though the diagnosis can be made based on sole clinical examination, additional imaging might be essential for confirmation of medial epicondylitis and excluding other pathologies of the medial epicondyle region. US imaging, with a sensitivity and specificity of 95% and 92%, respectively, remains a practical and accessible alternative to MRI. However, its diagnostic efficacy highly depends on the operator’s experience and requires proper technique. This article describes the ultrasound examination and technique for adequate visualization of elbow joint structures. It also discusses the differential diagnosis of other common and less-known pathologies of the medial compartment of the elbow, including snapping triceps, medial collateral ligament injury, and cubital tunnel neuropathy.

Frozen Shoulder (FS) by many specialists is still considered a benign, self-limiting condition, which usually resolves without intervention. This concept originated in the 70’, stating that FS will proceed from “the freezing” phase, with the predominance of inflammation and pain to “the frozen” phase with marked stiffness in the joint and “the thawing” phase, with a progressive return to the normal Range Of Motion (ROM) and function. Nevertheless, numerous authors have recently challenged this concept, arguing that most patients with FS will never fully recover, and suffer from residual pain and loss of function. Lack of early intervention, when a patient does not improve with conservative treatment, might lead to disability. We have discussed the recent concepts in the natural course of the disease and discussed both noninvasive and surgical methods in the treatment of FS.

Micromechanics techniques, such as nano-indentation and micro-pillar compression, can be applied to study hydrogen-charged zirconium alloys at elevated temperatures, which is highly relevant for the nuclear industry. Such experiments are often conducted inside a scanning electron microscope (SEM) under high-vacuum conditions (10−5 mbar). The combination of a high-temperature and high-vacuum environment causes some hydrogen to escape from the sample into the chamber. Although this effect is evident at temperatures above 600 °C, the extent of hydrogen desorption at lower temperatures is still unclear. In the presented study, the desorption of hydrogen was assessed in zirconium cladding tube material under temperature and hydrogen content conditions comparable to those faced by used nuclear fuel during dry storage. The measured hydrogen loss due to the high vacuum was compared to the simulations obtained using an extended version of a hydrogen behavior tool developed at PSI.

This element should be one of the base to prepare appropriate training program according to individual needs of players, as well aims of season. The main aim of this pilot study was to describe the characteristics of selected elements of the internal competitive load of football players after unilateral amputations. Methods: The subject involved a group of 15 Polish National Amp Football (PNAF) players after unilateral amputations of t he upper or lower limbs. The age, height and weight were 27.1±8.4 years, 176.2±7.3 cm, 72.0±14.2 kg, respectively. The information were recorded during match between PNAF Team and representative of Polish Clubs, using Polar Team 2Pro System. The data base was analyzed using standard tools and differences among variables was checked by Wilcoxon test. Results: During whole games value of HRmean was 132.6±10.56 bpm with a range from 87.3±10.6 bpm to 182.3±10.69 bpm and energy expenditure was 612.7±164.86 kcal. General, Values of observed variables were higher in the 2nd part of the match but differences among them was not significance. Conclusion: Characterizing the competitive effort will allow to diagnose and determine the nature of the work to use it as specific requirements of the discipline. It can be expected that these information will contribute to the improvement the training process for AMP Footballers and optimize training of the disabled people.

Background: Comparisons of physical fitness in normal weight and overweight/obese youth generally highlight the negative consequences of an elevated BMI. In contrast, several studies of children and adolescents highlight the importance of variation in indicators of physical fitness across the full spectrum of BMIs from low through high. Aim: The purpose of the study was to evaluate relationships between specific physical fitness items and the BMI among youth. Subjects and methods: Height, weight and six physical fitness tests were measured in 1239 males and 903 females, aged 13–16 years; BMI (kg/m2) was calculated. Fitness tests were compared by weight status using sex-specific MANCOVAs, controlling for age. Sex-specific quadratic regressions of each fitness item on the BMI were also calculated. Results: The sprint, standing long jump and shuttle run indicated better performances in normal than in thin and overweight/obese boys; the latter groups did not differ. Thin and normal weight boys performed better than overweight/obese boys in sit-ups and distance run. Among girls, sit-ups differed as follows: normal > thin > overweight/obese. Thin and normal weight girls performed better than overweight/obese girls in the jump, distance run and shuttle run. Normal weight girls were faster in the sprint than the overweight/obese. The quadratic regressions indicated significant non-linear relationships between the BMI and all fitness items among boys and in four items among girls. Conclusion: Performances on fitness tests varied with weight status. Relationships between performances and the BMI were curvilinear except for the distance run and flexibility in girls.

The article is an attempt to present a synthetic approach to the work and activities of the first Polish priest and revolutionary – Piotr Ściegienny. His views, which are of a ra­dical democratic nature, had roots in the poverty he experienced as a child in the Polish countryside and were also the outcome of his encounter with the ideas that formed the basis of the social revolution in France at the end of the 18-th century, such as “equality”, ”liberty” and “brotherhood”. In historiography, priest Ściegienny is considered as one of the promoters of socialist principles in the spirit of respect for human dignity and a representative of the political trend in 19-th century Poland which linked national independence to a simultaneous revolution of a social character.
