The extract of peanut shell extract (PSE) is firstly utilized as a novel eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor for the mitigation of corrosion on carbon steel in 0.5 M sulfuric acid medium. The corrosion inhibition performance and adsorption properties of PSE were researched via weight loss, electrochemical measurements and surface characterization analysis. It is demonstrated that the PSE acts as a mixed type inhibitor with a superb inhibition ability of 95 % with the addition of 300 mg/L PSE. The adsorption of the active ingredients in PSE on steel surface contributes to effective corrosion inhibition. The outstanding inhibition efficiency and straightforward extraction method with environment-friendly solvent convincingly demonstrate that the PSE possesses promising application prospects to be a novel eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor in industrial corrosion mitigation.

To reveal the deep seismogenic environment and mechanism of earthquakes in Songyuan City, Northeastern China, 59 broadband magnetotelluric sites in the Songyuan area were arranged in this study at a spacing of 5 km. In addition, two intersecting magnetotelluric profiles, with a total of 23 measuring sites and a spacing of 2 km, were established near the Ningjiang earthquake swarm. Using a nonlinear conjugate gradient (NLCG) algorithm, resistivity structures in the lithosphere were obtained at different scales using three-dimensional (3D) inversion. Lead contamination in soil has emerged as a significant environmental concern. Recently, pulse electrochemical treatment (PECT) has garnered substantial attention as an effective method for mitigating lead ions in low-permeability soils. However, the impact of varying pulse time gradients, ranging from seconds to hours, under the same pulse duty cycle on lead removal efficiency (LRE) and energy consumption in PECT has not been thoroughly investigated. In this study, a novel, modified PECT method is proposed, which couples PECT with a permeable reaction barrier (PRB) and adds acetic acid to the catholyte. A comprehensive analysis of LRE and energy consumption is conducted by transforming pulse time. The results show that the LREs achieved in these experiments were as follows: PCb-3 s (89.5%), PCb-1 m (91%), PCb-30 m (92.9%), and PCb-6 h (91.9%). Importantly, these experiments resulted in significant reductions in energy consumption, with decreases of 68.5%, 64.9%, 51.8%, and 47.4% compared to constant voltage treatments, respectively. It was observed that LRE improved with an increase in both pulse duration and voltage gradient, albeit with a corresponding rise in energy consumption. The results also revealed that corn straw biochar as a PRB could enhance LRE by 6.1% while adsorbing migrating lead ions. Taken together, the present data highlights the potential of modified PECT technology for remediation of lead-contaminated soil, which provides an optimal approach to achieve high LRE while minimizing energy consumption.

Competing hypotheses have been proposed to explain the subduction polarity of the Bangong-Nujiang Tethyan Ocean and the formation of the high-conductivity anomaly beneath the Qiangtang terrane. However, the lithospheric architecture of the northern Tibetan Plateau is still poorly understood due to inhospitable environments and topography. Therefore, in the winter of 2021, a 440 km long, SN-trending broadband magnetotelluric (MT) profile was recorded in northern Tibet to detect its regional lithospheric structure. The nonlinear conjugate gradients algorithm is conducted to invert the individual TM mode data. A reliable 2D electrical model was obtained by ablation processing and analysis of broadband magnetotelluric data to test the lithospheric electrical structure and dynamics between the northern Lhasa and Qiangtang terranes. The inversion results reveal the lithospheric structure at a depth of 100 km in northern Tibet, which synthesizes geological, geochemical and deep seismic reflection evidence and firmly identifies that the trace of the south-dipping conductor mainly resulted from the southward subduction of the Bangong-Nujiang Tethyan Ocean under the Lhasa terrane and the trace of the north-dipping conductor likely due to the northward subduction of the Bangong-Nujiang Tethyan Ocean under the Qiangtang terrane. In addition, the magnetotelluric profile also images a high-conductivity lithospheric-scale anticline beneath the central Qiangtang terrane, which may correspond to the upwelling of postcollisional magmatism triggered by northward subduction of the Bangong-Nujiang Tethyan Ocean under the Qiangtang terrane, aqueous fluid and/or partial melting.

AbstractWe present the results of a magnetotelluric (MT) array across the Qilian orogenic belt to elucidate the uplift mechanism of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau (Qinghai-Tibet Plateau). The array extends from the Qaidam basin in the south to the southern edge of the Alxa block in the north. Using the three-dimensional (3D) inversion of MT data based on unstructured tetrahedral elements, the electrical structure 100 km below the orogenic belt is obtained. The results show that there are high-resistivity bodies in the lithospheric mantle of the North Qilian and Hexi Corridor, which may represent the trace of southward subduction of the Asian lithosphere. Besides, there are partially molten bodies with low resistivity in the middle and lower crust below the Qilian orogenic belt, which may be caused by tectonic heat. The melt fraction of low-resistivity bodies is 2-5%, which indicates that the crustal flow from the Qiangtang and Songpan-Ganzi blocks is unable to penetrate beneath the Qilian orogenic belt. The low-resistivity bodies beneath the Qilian orogenic belt decouples the upper crust from the middle-lower crust. Owing to the continuous compression, the decoupled middle-lower crust has subsequently driven the northward movement of the upper crust, resulting in the uplift of the Qilian orogenic belt.

Magnetotelluric (MT) sounding data can easily be damaged by various types of noise, especially in industrial areas, where the quality of measured data is poor. Most traditional de-noising methods are ineffective to the low signal-to-noise ratio of data. To solve the above problem, we propose the use of a de-noising method for the detection of noise in MT data based on discrete wavelet transform and singular value decomposition (SVD), with multiscale dispersion entropy and phase space reconstruction carried out for pretreatment. No “over processing” takes place in the proposed method. Compared with wavelet transform and SVD decomposition in synthetic tests, the proposed method removes the profile of noise more completely, including large-scale noise and impulse noise. For high levels or low levels of noise, the proposed method can increase the signal-to-noise ratio of data more obviously. Moreover, application to the field MT data can prove the performance of the proposed method. The proposed method is a feasible method for the elimination of various noise types and can improve MT data with high noise levels, obtaining a recovery in the response. It can improve abrupt points and distortion in MT response curves more effectively than the robust method can.

Gravity and magnetic measurements are common remote sensing strategies to obtain the property change of observed targets. Nowadays, the characteristic value of the derivatives of gravity and magnetic anomalies is commonly used to detect the source horizontal edge. We found that the horizontal coordinates of the characteristic value of different-order derivatives are not directly corresponding to the edge of the source, which varies with the depth and size of the source. The spatial different-order derivative (SDD) method of gravity and magnetic anomalies was developed, and we proved that the spatial intersection of different-order derivatives is corresponding to the location of the source, and used this feature to obtain horizontal location and depth of the source simultaneously. The model tests proved that the SDD method has high accuracy and strong anti-noisy. According to the corresponding relationship between the potential field data and lithology, we used the SDD method to delineate the potential metalorganic area in the survey region, which provides the basis for subsequent exploration.
