Background: Knowing the quality of life of professionals is important because it is related to job performance, better results, and greater productivity, which results in better patient care. Objective: To know the Professional Quality of Life perceived by the nurses at the Geriatric Hospital of Toledo (Spain). Method: A descriptive cross-section study was employed to measure the Professional Quality of Life of all healthcare nurses (69 in total) at the Geriatric Hospital of Toledo. The questionnaire used as a measuring instrument was the Professional Quality of Life - 35. The data obtained was analyzed by means of: descriptive statistics, single-factor ANOVA variance analysis, T Student tests, and simple and multiple regression analysis. The study was approved by both the research commission and the ethics commission at the Hospital Complex of Toledo. Participation in the study on behalf of the nursing staff was voluntary. Results: In total, 45 responses were obtained (65.2%). The overall mean score measured the perceived Professional Quality of Life to be low. In relation to the three dimensions evaluated in the study, the highest average found was in “intrinsic motivation,” followed by “workload”, and then “management support.” In the multivariate analysis, “management support” was shown as the most influential factor in the Professional Quality of Life with a 23% influence (PKey Words: Work satisfaction, nursing, hospital, care

Contraer y transmitir el VIH/sida es un riesgo real en cualquier etapa de la vida del hombre. Esta enfermedad tiene unas connotaciones concretas que pueden influir en diferentes áreas del individuo: psicológica, económica, social, familiar, etc., en cualquier edad, pero aún más si el afectado es una persona mayor. La falta de información sobre la enfermedad y su contagio en la vejez se puede convertir en una amenaza. El motivo de este trabajo es analizar la información y formación que se desprende de la bibliografía respecto a las personas mayores en materia de VIH/sida y proponer actuaciones que abarquen aspectos de prevención, promoción y cuidados.Catching or transmiting AIDS is a risk at any stage of people’s life. This disease has specific connotations that can influence different areas of the individual: psychological, economical, social, family life, etc., at any age but even more if the affected is an old person. The lack of information about the disease and its infection can turn out to be a serious menace. The motivation behind this work is to analize the information and education found in bibliographic sources, regarding old people and their relation to AIDS, and propose actions that embrace prevention, promotion and care aspects.
