The title compound, C16H11N2OF, is a member of the azo dye family. The dihedral angle subtended by the benzene ring and the naphthalene ring system measures 18.75 (7)°, indicating that the compound is not perfectly planar. An intramolecular N—H...O hydrogen bond occurs between the imino and carbonyl groups. In the crystal, the molecules are linked into inversion dimers by C—H...O interactions. Aromatic π–π stacking between the naphthalene ring systems lead to the formation of chains along [001]. A Hirshfeld surface analysis was undertaken to investigate and quantify the intermolecular interactions. In addition, energy frameworks were used to examine the cooperative effect of these intermolecular interactions across the crystal, showing dispersion energy to be the most influential factor in the crystal organization of the compound.

Typhoid fever is a significant public health concern in many parts of the world, particularly in developing countries with poor sanitation and hygiene conditions. In July 2016, an outbreak of typhoid fever occurred in Ghannouche, located in the south of Tunisia. This paper reports the results of a field investigation undertaken to identify possible transmission pathways and risk factors in order to propose control and preventive measures. A retrospective cohort study including a passive and active case finding, as well as an environmental and bacteriological investigation was conducted from July to September 2016. A case was defined as a person residing or having stayed in Ghannouche and having presented from the beginning of June clinical signs suggestive of typhoid fever, with, for a confirmed case, laboratory isolation of S.Tyhi, and for a probable case, an epidemiological link with a confirmed case. Attack rates were determined, and risk ratios were estimated with respect to exposures. Unadjusted and adjusted odds ratios were estimated using binary logistic regression. Among the 628 subjects investigated, 102 cases of typhoid fever were identified (74 confirmed and 28 probable) with an overall attack rate of 16.24%. Over 56% of cases were male and those under 10 years old were most affected (38.2%% of cases) with a median age of 12 years (interquartile range 5 to 25 years). The main clinical signs were fever (95%) and diarrhea (57%). Young age (adjusted OR = 0.95 and 95% CI = 0.93–0.97), low level of education (adjusted OR = 4.76 and 95% CI = 1.34–16.81), and the habitat type Arab or rudimentary house (adjusted OR = 4.93 and 95% CI = 2.61–8.27) were the socio-demographic factors independently associated with typhoid fever. Typhoid fever was found to be associated with drinking softened water (adjusted OR = 2.64 and 95% CI = 1.16–4.82), eating raw fruit and vegetables from family gardens (adjusted OR = 6.13 and 95% CI = 3.66–11.06), and using uncontrolled waste disposal (adjusted OR = 3.52 and 95% CI = 2.03–6.94). A total of 110 drinking water samples were analyzed; out of the 38 samples of softened water, 12 were non-compliant and 5 were positive for Salmonella. The screening activity identified two asymptomatic carriers, one of whom was a softened water seller. We concluded that drinking softened water from informal or unauthorized sale units, consuming fruit and vegetables from family gardens, uncontrolled dumping of household waste, and poor socio-economic conditions increase the risk of typhoid fever in this region. Many recommendations were implemented to stop this outbreak and to prevent further episodes.

Rockfalls can cause loss of life and material damage. In Northern Morocco, rockfalls and rock avalanche-deposits are frequent, especially in the Dorsale Calcaire morpho-structural unit, which is mostly formed by Jurassic limestone and dolostone formations. In this study, we focus exclusively on its northern segment, conventionally known as “the Haouz subunit”. First, a rockfall inventory was conducted. Then, two datasets were prepared: one covering exclusively the source area and the other representing the entirety of the mass movements (source + propagation area). Two algorithms were then used to build rockfall susceptibility models (RSMs). The first one (Logistic Regression: LR) yielded the most unreliable results, where the RSM derived from the source area dataset significantly outperformed the one based on the entirety of the rockfall affected area, despite the lack of significant visual differences between both models. However, the RSMs produced using Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) were more or less similar in terms of accuracy, despite the source area model being more conservative. This result is unexpected given the fact that previous studies proved the robustness of the LR algorithm and the sensitivity of ANN models. However, we believe that the non-linear correlation between the spatial distribution of the rockfall propagation area and that of the conditioning factors used to compute the models explains why modeling rockfalls in particular differs from other types of landslides.

Focusing on the Oued Laou watershed, this study presents an innovative approach to simulate daily precipitation over a 35-year period in northern Morocco. We used the SARIMAX (AutoRegressive Seasonal Moving Average with Exogenous Variables) model and combined its potential with the Python programming language to achieve these Predictions. The SARIMAX model is an advanced time series analysis tool that integrates exogenous, autoregressive, seasonal and integrated variables. This model is capable of accurately predicting daily, monthly and annual precipitation averages for the study period. The climate projections obtained suggest that precipitation in the study area will decrease and it’s accompanied by increasing temperatures. This could have significant impacts on ecosystems, water resources and the agricultural sector. This study provides essential information for a better understanding of the particular climatic trends in northern Morocco. It provides a sound basis for making informed decisions on the sustainable management of natural resources. This information will be essential in anticipating and mitigating the effects of climate change, particularly with regard to precipitation and its potential impacts it could have on the environment and agriculture.

In this study, an extension on the previously reported status of the COllaborative Carbon Column Observing Network's (COCCON) calibration procedures incorporating refined methods is presented. COCCON is a global network of portable Bruker EM27/SUN FTIR spectrometers for deriving column-averaged atmospheric abundances of greenhouse gases. The original laboratory open-path lamp measurements for deriving the instrumental line shape (ILS) of the spectrometer from water vapour lines have been refined and extended to the secondary detector channel incorporated in the EM27/SUN spectrometer for detection of carbon monoxide (CO). The refinements encompass improved spectroscopic line lists for the relevant water lines and a revision of the laboratory pressure measurements used for the analysis of the spectra. The new results are found to be in good agreement with those reported by Frey et al. (2019) and discussed in detail. In addition, a new calibration cell for ILS measurements was designed, constructed and put into service. Spectrometers calibrated since January 2020 were tested using both methods for ILS characterization, open-path (OP) and cell measurements. We demonstrate that both methods can detect the small variations in ILS characteristics between different spectrometers, but the results of the cell method indicate a systematic bias of the OP method. Finally, a revision and extension of the COCCON network instrument-to-instrument calibration factors for XCO2, XCO and XCH4 is presented, incorporating 47 new spectrometers (of 83 in total by now). This calibration is based on the reference EM27/SUN spectrometer operated by the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and spectra collected by the collocated TCCON station Karlsruhe. Variations in the instrumental characteristics of the reference EM27/SUN from 2014 to 2017 were detected, probably arising from realignment and the dual-channel upgrade performed in early 2018. These variations are considered in the evaluation of the instrument-specific calibration factors in order to keep all tabulated calibration results consistent.

Background Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a rare but potentially life-threatening neuropsychiatric emergency. The aim of our study was to update our bedside procedures by investigating NMS cases managed in the intensive care unit (ICU). Methods This retrospective study included all NMS patients admitted to our hospital between January 2012 and December 2019. The variables analyzed included demographics, diagnosis, therapeutics, and outcomes. Results This study included 20 patients, with an average age of 36.6 years. The male to female ratio was 1:4. No patient had a history of NMS, and 60% of the patients had schizophrenia. First-generation neuroleptics (NLs) were the most commonly prescribed drugs (80%). The mean time between the introduction of NLs and onset of symptoms was 7.6 days. Rigidity was observed in 90% of the patients, hyperthermia and neuropsychic syndrome in 65%, and dysautonomia in 50%. The creatine phosphokinase level in all patients was four times the normal value. Mechanical ventilation was required in 20% of the patients and hemodialysis in one patient. None of the patients received specific therapy. The mean duration of ICU stay was 10 days. The mortality rate was 10%,, mainly associated with renal failure. The analysis of the predictors of mortality was limited by the size of our cohort. Conclusion NMS is a rare condition requiring multidisciplinary implementation of contextualized and updated procedures. Early detection and supportive treatment could improve the prognosis in resource-limited settings, where specific treatments are not available. Predictive risk factors should be investigated in larger multicenter cohorts.

Lately, due to its accessibility and eco-friendliness, walnut shell biochar (WS-BC) is gaining attention as an electrode material component in the electrochemical detection of water pollutants. The overall performance of WS-BC is reliant on the nature of raw biomass and the production methods as well. In our concept, biochar, prepared from raw walnut shell (WS) by pyrolysis, was added to a carbon paste electrode (CPE), and poly-tyrosine (p-Tyr) was electrodeposited on the surface of the BC-doped electrode. The conditions of the elaboration of the electrode, such as pH, potential, and the number of deposition cycles, pH were optimized. The obtained p-Tyr-BC-CPE platform was tested for the determination of cadmium, lead, copper, and mercury ions in water and soil samples, using square wave voltammetry (SWV). The raw WS biomass and its BC were examined by thermal analysis (TG-DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (SEM/EDX) techniques. The synergistic effects of the coexistence of the WS-BC and the thin film of p-Tyr, for the detection of traces of heavy metal ions were investigated by electrochemical tests. The electrochemical characterization of the unmodified and modified electrodes was performed using the cyclic voltammetry (CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods, while the Cd2+, Pb2+, Cu2+, and Hg2+ detection experiments were studied using the CV and SWV techniques. The optimized experimental conditions for the p-Tyr-BC-CPE platform were evaluated. The obtained electrochemical results showed that the p-Tyr-BC-CPE platform produced excellent sensitivity toward the heavy metal ions: LOD of 0.086, 0.175, 0.246, and 0.383 nM for Cd(II), Pb(II), Cu(II) and Hg(II), respectively. The modified electrode platform displayed high selectivity, stability, and good reproducibility.

This case study focuses on the area of El Plateado near the city of Loja, Ecuador, where landslides with a high impact on infrastructures require monitoring and control. The main objectives of this work are the characterization of the landslide and the monitoring of its kinematics. Four flights were conducted using a remotely piloted aerial vehicle (RPAS) to capture aerial images that were processed with SfM techniques to generate digital elevation models (DEMs) and orthoimages of high resolution (0.05 m) and sufficient accuracy (below 0.05 m) for subsequent analyses. Thus, the DEM of differences (DoD) and profiles are obtained, but a morphometric analysis is conducted to quantitatively characterize the landslide’s elements and study its evolution. Parameters such as slope, aspect, topographic position index (TPI), terrain roughness index (TRI), and topographic wetness index (TWI) are analyzed. The results show a higher slope and roughness for scarps compared to stable areas and other elements. From TPI, slope break lines have been extracted, which allow the identification of landslide features such as scarps and toe tip. The landslide shows important changes in the landslide body surface, the retraction of the main scarp, and advances of the foot. A general decrease in average slope and TRI and an increase in TWI are also observed due to the landslide evolution and stabilization. The presence of fissures and the infiltration of rainfall water in the unsaturated soil layers, which consist of high-plasticity clays and silts, contribute to the instability. Thus, the study provides insights into the measurement accuracy, identification and characterization of landslide elements, morphometric analysis, landslide evolution, and the relationship with geotechnical factors that contribute to a better understanding of landslides. A higher frequency of the RPAS surveys and quality of geotechnical and meteorological data are required to improve the instability analysis together with a major automation of the GIS procedures.

Abstract Background Testicular microlithiasis in children was defined for the first time in 1961 based on histological criteria. There should be more than 5 calcifications per testicle in order to say that the patient has testicular microlithiasis. It has three different echographic grades depending on the number of calcifications. However, this disease is uncommon, with inaccurate prevalence and no certain information about its evolution or etiology. Main body We studied 4 clinical cases of children diagnosed with testicular microlithiasis, in light of the conducted review of the literature, and we defined the characteristics of this disease and proposed a management and monitoring framework based on the clinical observations. Conclusion There is a link between testicular microlithiasis and testicular cancer. Therefore, it is recommended to make a regular follow-up of children who present testicular microlithiasis with the presence of risk factors.

The title compound, C17H13NO3, adopts a Z configuration about the C=C bond. The isoxazole and methoxybenzylidene rings are almost coplanar with a dihedral angle of 9.63 (7)° between them. In contrast, the phenyl substituent is twisted significantly out of the plane of the oxazole ring, with the two rings inclined to each other by 46.22 (4)°. The crystal structure features C—H...O, C—H...N and C—H...π hydrogen bonds and π–π contacts. An analysis of the Hirshfeld surfaces points to the importance of H...H, H...C/C...H and H...O/O...H contacts. The included surface areas of the title compound were compared to those of the isomeric structure (Z)-4-(4-methoxybenzylidene)-3-phenylisoxazol-5(4H)-one [Zhang et al. (2015). Fluorine is a very common element in the Earth’s crust and is present in the air, food, and in natural waters. It never meets in the free state in nature due to its high reactivity, and it comes in the form of fluorides. Depending on the concentration of fluorine absorbed, it may be beneficial or harmful to human health. Similar to any trace element, fluoride ion is beneficial for the human body at low levels, but as soon as its concentration becomes too high, it is toxic, inducing dental and bone fluorosis. The lowering of fluoride concentrations that exceed the recommended standards in drinking water is practiced in various ways around the world. The adsorption process has been classified as one of the most efficient methods for the removal of fluoride from water as it is environmentally friendly, easy to operate, and cost-effective. The present study deals with fluoride ion adsorption on modified zeolite. There are several influential parameters, such as zeolite particle size, stirring rate, solution pH, initial concentration of fluoride, contact time, and solution temperature. The maximum removal efficiency of the modified zeolite adsorbent was 94% at 5 mg/L fluoride initial concentration, pH 6.3, and 0.5 g modified zeolite mass. The adsorption rate increases accordingly with increases in the stirring rate and pH value and decreases when the initial fluoride concentration is increased. The evaluation was enhanced by the study of adsorption isotherms using the Langmuir and Freundlich models. The Langmuir isotherm corresponds with the experimental results of the fluoride ions adsorption with a correlation value of 0.994. The kinetic analysis results of the fluoride ions adsorption on modified zeolite allowed us to demonstrate that the process primarily follows a pseudo-second-order and then, in the next step, follows a pseudo-first-order model. Thermodynamic parameters were calculated, and the ΔG° value is found to be in the range of −0.266 kJ/mol up to 1.613 kJ/mol amidst an increase in temperature from 298.2 to 331.7 K. The negative values of the free enthalpy ΔG° mean that the adsorption of fluoride ions on the modified zeolite is spontaneous, and the positive value of the enthalpy ∆H° shows that the adsorption process is endothermic. The ∆S° values of entropy indicate the fluoride adsorption randomness characteristics at the zeolite-solution interface.

The title compound, C9H7NO2S crystallizes with two independent molecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit with Z = 8. Both molecules are almost planar with a dihedral angle between the isoxazole and thiophen rings of 3.67 (2)° in molecule A and 10.00 (1) ° in molecule B. The packing of molecules A and B is of an ABAB... type along the b-axis direction, the configuration about the C=C bond is Z. In the crystal, the presence of C—H...O, C—H... N and π–π interactions [centroid–centroid distances of 3.701 (2) and 3.766 (2) Å] link the molecules into a three-dimensional architecture. An analysis of Hirshfeld surfaces shows the importance of C—H...O and C—H...N hydrogen bonds in the packing mechanism of the crystalline structure.

The title compounds, 2,6-diiodo-4-nitrotoluene (DINT, C7H5I2NO2) and 2,4,6-tribromotoluene (TBT, C7H5Br3,), are trisubstituted toluene molecules. Both molecules are planar, only the H atoms of the methyl group, and the nitro group in DINT, deviate significantly from the plane of the benzene ring. In the crystals of both compounds, molecules stack in columns up the shortest crystallographic axis, viz. the a axis in DINT and the b axis in TBT. In the crystal of DINT, molecules are linked via short N—O...I contacts, forming chains along [100]. In TBT, molecules are linked by C—H...Br hydrogen bonds, forming chains along [010]. Hirshfeld surface analysis was used to explore the intermolecular contacts in the crystals of both DINT and TBT.

Microbial fuel cells (MFCs) provide new opportunities for the sustainable production of energy, converting organic matter into electricity through microorganisms. Moreover, MFCs play an important role in remediation of environmental pollutants from wastewater with power generation. This work focuses on the evaluation of ferroelectric perovskite materials as a new class of non-precious photocatalysts for MFC cathode construction. Nanoparticles of BaTiO3 (BT) were prepared and tested in a microbial fuel cell (MFC) as photocathode catalytic components. The catalyst phases were synthesized, identified and characterized by XRD, SEM, UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy, P-E hysteresis and dielectric measurements. The maximum absorption of BT nanoparticles was recorded at 285 nm and the energy gap (Eg) was estimated to be 3.77 eV. Photocatalytic performance of cathodes coated with BaTiO3 was measured in a dark environment and then in the presence of a UV–visible (UV–Vis) light source, using a mixture of dairy industry and domestic wastewater as a feedstock for the MFCs. The performance of the BT cathodic component is strongly dependent on the presence of UV–Vis irradiation. The BT-based cathode functioning under UV–visible light improves the maximum power densities and the open circuit voltage (OCV) of the MFC system. The values increased from 64 mW m−2 to 498 mW m−2 and from 280 mV to 387 mV, respectively, showing that the presence of light effectively improved the photocatalytic activity of this ceramic. Furthermore, the MFCs operating under optimal conditions were able to reduce the chemical oxygen demand load in wastewater by 90% (initial COD = 2500 mg L−1).

Unilateral right-sided varicocele is a rare and warning condition that should hint at a serious retroperitoneal disease such as renal cell neoplasm. Furthermore, its thrombosis is such an unusual entity that only a few cases have been described. We review the literature and report, to our knowledge, the second case of acute scrotal pain caused by unilateral right-sided varicocele thrombosis complicating an ipsilateral epididymo-orchitis, with no underlying coagulopathy or abdominal neoplasm, to illustrate the clinical, morphologic and therapeutic features of this entity.

Rockfall simulations constitute the first step toward hazard assessments and can guide future rockfall prevention efforts. In this work, we assess the impact of digital elevation model (DEM) resolution on the accuracy of numerical rockfall simulation outputs. For this purpose, we compared the simulation output obtained using 1 m, 2 m and 3 m resolution UAV-derived DEMs, to two other models based on coarser topographic data (a 5 m resolution DEM obtained through interpolating elevation contours and the Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission 30m DEM). To generate the validation data, we conducted field surveys in order to map the real trajectories of three boulders that were detached during a rockfall event that occurred on 1 December 2018. Our findings suggest that the use of low to medium-resolution DEMs translated into large errors in the shape of the simulated trajectories as well as the computed runout distances, which appeared to be exaggerated by such models. The geometry of the runout area and the targets of the potential rockfall events also appeared to be different from those mapped on the field. This hindered the efficiency of any prevention or correction measures. On the other hand, the 1m UAV-derived model produced more accurate results relative to the field data. Therefore, it is accurate enough for rockfall simulations and hazard research applications. Although such remote sensing techniques may require additional expenses, our results suggest that the enhanced accuracy of the models is worth the investment.

Abstract Background Drug resistant tuberculosis is a major public health problem in Morocco and worldwide. Treatment outcome of drug resistant tuberculosis is poor and requires a long period of treatment with many toxic and expensive antituberculosis drugs. The aim of this study is to evaluate treatment outcomes of drug resistant tuberculosis and to determine predictors of poor treatment outcomes in a large region of Morocco. Methods It is a multi-centric observational cohort study conducted from January 01, 2014 to January 01, 2016. A questionnaire was established to collect data from clinical charts of patients with confirmed resistant TB. The study was carried out in all the 11 centers located in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region of Morocco where drug resistant tuberculosis is treated. Treatment outcomes were reported and the definitions and classifications of these outcomes were defined according to the WHO guidelines. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression were conducted to determine factors associated with poor drug resistant tuberculosis treatment outcomes in Morocco. Results In our study, 101 patients were treated for drug resistant tuberculosis between January 01, 2014 and January 01, 2016. Patients’ age ranged from 9.5 to70 years; 72patients (71.3%) were male and 80 patients (79.2%) were living in urban areas. Thirty two patients were smokers, 74 patients had multidrug-resistant tuberculosis, 25 patients had rifampicin resistance and 2 patients had isoniazid resistance. Treatment outcomes of tuberculosis patients were as follows: 45 patients were cured (44.5%), 9 completed treatment (8.9%), 5 patients died before completing the treatment, 35 patients were lost to follow up (34.6%) and 7 patients had treatment failure. In the multivariate analysis, being a smoker is an independent risk factor for poor treatment outcomes, (p-value = 0.015, OR = 4.355, IC [1.327–14.292]). Conclusion Treatment success outcomes occurred in more than half of the cases, which is lower than the World Health Organization target of at least a 75% success rate. A significant number of patients abandoned their treatment before its completion. These dropouts are a serious public health hazard that needs to be addressed urgently.

Abstract This article reviews some integrators particularly suitable for the numerical resolution of differential equations on a large time interval. Symplectic integrators are presented. Their stability on exponentially large time is shown through numerical examples. Next, Dirac integrators for constrained systems are exposed. An application on chaotic dynamics is presented. Lastly, for systems having no exploitable geometric structure, the Borel–Laplace integrator is presented. Numerical experiments on Hamiltonian and non-Hamiltonian systems are carried out, as well as on a partial differential equation.

The Rif is among the areas of Morocco most susceptible to landslides, because of the existence of relatively young reliefs marked by a very important dynamics compared to other regions. These landslides are one of the most serious problems on many levels: social, economic and environmental. The increase in the frequency and impact of landslides over the past decade has demonstrated the need for an in-depth study of these phenomena, allowing the identification of areas susceptible to landslides. The main objective of this study is to identify the optimal method for the mapping of the area susceptible to landslides in municipality of Oudka. This area has been marked by the largest landslide in the region, caused by heavy rainfall in 2013. Two Statistical Methods i) Regression Logistics (LR) ii) Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), were used to create a landslide susceptibility map. The realization of this susceptibility map required, first, the mapping of old landslides by the aerial photography, the data of the geological map and by the data obtained using field surveys using GPS. A total of 105 landslides were mapped from these various sources. 50% of this database was used for model building and 50% for validation. Eight independent landslide factors are exploited to detect the most sensitive areas: altitude, slope, aspect, distance of faults, distance streams, distance from roads, lithology and vegetation index (NDVI). The results of the landslide susceptibility analysis were verified using success and prediction rates. The success rate (AUC = 0.918) and the prediction rate (AUC = 0.901) of the LR model is higher than that of the ANN model (success rate (AUC = 0.886) and prediction rate (AUC = 0.877). These results indicate that the Regression Logistic (LR) model is the best model for determining landslide susceptibility in the study area.

The title compound, C20H19NO2, is of interest as a precursor to biologically active substituted quinolines and related compounds. This compound crystallizes with two independent molecules (A and B) in the asymmetric unit. The dihedral angles between mean planes of the methylphenyl ring and the naphthalene ring system are 78.32 (6) and 84.70 (6)° in molecules A and B, respectively. In the crystal, the antiferroelectric packing of molecules A and B is of an ABBAABB type along the b-axis direction. The crystal structure features N—H...O, O—H...O and weak C—H...O hydrogen bonds, which link the molecules into infinite chains propagating along the b-axis direction.

Abstract Some of the most important geometric integrators for both ordinary and partial differential equations are reviewed and illustrated with examples in mechanics. The class of Hamiltonian differential systems is recalled and its symplectic structure is highlighted. The associated natural geometric integrators, known as symplectic integrators, are then presented. In particular, their ability to numerically reproduce first integrals with a bounded error over a long time interval is shown. The extension to partial differential Hamiltonian systems and to multisymplectic integrators is presented afterwards. Next, the class of Lagrangian systems is described. It is highlighted that the variational structure carries both the dynamics (Euler–Lagrange equations) and the conservation laws (Nœther’s theorem). Integrators preserving the variational structure are constructed by mimicking the calculus of variation at the discrete level. We show that this approach leads to numerical schemes which preserve exactly the energy of the system. After that, the Lie group of local symmetries of partial differential equations is recalled. A construction of Lie-symmetry-preserving numerical scheme is then exposed. This is done via the moving frame method. Applications to Burgers equation are shown. The last part is devoted to the Discrete Exterior Calculus, which is a structure-preserving integrator based on differential geometry and exterior calculus. The efficiency of the approach is demonstrated on fluid flow problems with a passive scalar advection.

The present research uses mathematical analysis instruments for a comparative study between the Islamic financing system and the Ribaoui financing system usually called the classical financing scheme. The former system deals with contracts based on variable returns while the second i-e the ribaoui system is based on fixed return contracts. Using the principles of partial equilibrium theory for risk adverse investors, the study demonstrates that returns are higher with contracts based on profit and loss sharing. The title compound, C9H11NO2S2, contains a 1,3-dithiane ring which has a twist-boat conformation. The dihedral angle between the mean planes of the ethyl acetate group and the dithiane ring is 17.56 (13)°. In the crystal, molecules stack in layers up the a-axis direction, however, there are no significant intermolecular interactions present.

This research tests the application of GNSS and RPAS techniques to the spatiotemporal analysis of landslide dynamics. Our method began by establishing non-permanent GNSS networks on the slope surfaces to perform periodic measurements by differential GNSS. Similarly, RPAS flights were made to acquire high-resolution images, which were oriented and georeferenced using ground control points and structure-from-motion algorithms to ultimately obtain digital surface models and orthophotos. Based on GNSS measurements, the direction and velocity of displacements were accurately calculated, and orthophotos and DSMs were used to calculate horizontal and vertical displacements in a set of significant points throughout the study area, reaching accuracies higher than 0.035 m in the GNSS data and 0.10 m in the RPAS data. These values were within the accuracy required for such studies. Based on the field observations and the results from the photogrammetric studies, the two studied landslides were classified as very slow flows. These techniques are the basis for establishing early warning systems in areas of natural hazards based on the calculation of displacement speeds of the surface of slopes.

This paper presents numerical study of an oval-sail, a bluff-body equipped with a grid all along the span. Suction based flow control is applied to this body that is developed for wind assisted ship propulsion. First, a choice of numerical turbulence model is discussed through results of an oval-sail without suction. Three turbulence models are applied: the Ri j SSG, the Ri j EBRSM and the v2 f model. Then, computations are performed for the oval-sail fitted with suction grid. These last simu- lations are carried out with the low-Reynolds-number Ri j EBRSM turbulence model. The influence of the grid geometry on the oval-sail aerodynamic performances is highlighted. All simulations are carried out for the sail set at zero incidence. The Reynolds number based on the free stream velocity and the profile chord is Re = 5105. Results are compared to available experimental data.

The title compound, C7H5Cl2NO2 [systematic name: 1,3-dichloro-2-methyl-5-nitrobenzene], crystallizes in the chiral space group P212121 with a Flack parameter of −0.03 (5). The methyl C atom, the Cl atoms and the N atom of the nitro substituent all lie extremely close to the plane of the benzene ring; the deviations are 0.028 (3) Å for the methyl C atom, −0.016 (1) and 0.007 (1) Å for the two Cl atoms, and −0.017 (3) Å for the nitro N atom. Hence, no significant steric hindrance of the methyl group by the ortho halogen atoms is observed. The nitro group is inclined to the benzene ring by 9.8 (3)°. In the crystal, molecules are linked by weak C—H...O and C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds, forming layers parallel to the ab plane.

A time integration method for the resolution of ordinary and partial differential equations is proposed. The method consists in computing a formal solution as a (eventually divergent) time series. Next, the Borel resummation method is applied to deduce an (sectorial) analytical solution. The speed and spectral properties of the scheme are analyzed through some examples. Applications to fluid mechanics are presented.

In this work, zinc oxide-decorated graphene oxide (ZnO−rGO) was successfully synthesized with a fast reflux chemical procedure at 100 °C. An equal mass ratio of graphene oxide (GO) and zinc acetate was used as starting materials dissolved, respectively, in ultrapure distilled water and dimethylformamide (DMF). Particularly, pure GO was synthesized using Hummers modified protocol by varying the mass ratio of (graphite:potassium permanganate) as follows: 1:2, 1:3, and 1:4, which allow us to obtain six types of pure and decorated samples, named, respectively, GO1:2, GO1:3, GO1:4, ZnO−rGO1:2, ZnO−rGO1:3, and ZnO−rGO1:4 using reflux at 100 °C. X-ray diffraction, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy spectra confirm the formation of wurzite ZnO in all ZnO-decorated samples with better reduction of GO in ZnO−rGO1:4, confirming that a higher degree of graphene oxidation allows better reduction during the decoration process with ZnO metal oxide. Antioxidant activity of pure and zinc oxide-decorated graphene oxide samples were compared using two different in vitro assays (DPPH radical and H2O2 scavenging activities). Considerable in vitro antioxidant activities in a concentration-dependent manner were recorded. Interestingly, pristine GO showed more elevated scavenging efficiency in DPPH tests while ZnO-decorated GO was relatively more efficient in H2O2 antioxidant assays.

The events of the Arab Spring have come to confirm the thesis that the Internet is no longer a simple creation of fun, or a phenomenon of life model that marks how came the technological progress of mankind. But it is a complex engineering, another world that flourished in parallel with the real world and feeds him a sixth continent which is added to the earth, a creation that metamorphosis to escape creator and become a world invested by the political and economic, market trade transactions, a tool for intercultural persuasion and an instrument of geopolitical and cold War.

Background: The eastern Mediterranean region is comprised of 22 countries: Afghanistan, Bahrain, Djibouti, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Since our Global Burden of Disease Study 2010 (GBD 2010), the region has faced unrest as a result of revolutions, wars, and the so-called Arab uprisings. The objective of this study was to present the burden of diseases, injuries, and risk factors in the eastern Mediterranean region as of 2013. Methods: GBD 2013 includes an annual assessment covering 188 countries from 1990 to 2013. The study covers 306 diseases and injuries, 1233 sequelae, and 79 risk factors. Our GBD 2013 analyses included the addition of new data through updated systematic reviews and through the contribution of unpublished data sources from collaborators, an updated version of modelling software, and several improvements in our methods. In this systematic analysis, we use data from GBD 2013 to analyse the burden of disease and injuries in the eastern Mediterranean region specifically. Findings: The leading cause of death in the region in 2013 was ischaemic heart disease (90·3 deaths per 100 000 people), which increased by 17·2% since 1990. However, diarrhoeal diseases were the leading cause of death in Somalia (186·7 deaths per 100 000 people) in 2013, which decreased by 26·9% since 1990. The leading cause of disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) was ischaemic heart disease for males and lower respiratory infection for females. High blood pressure was the leading risk factor for DALYs in 2013, with an increase of 83·3% since 1990. Risk factors for DALYs varied by country. In low-income countries, childhood wasting was the leading cause of DALYs in Afghanistan, Somalia, and Yemen, whereas unsafe sex was the leading cause in Djibouti. Non-communicable risk factors were the leading cause of DALYs in high-income and middle-income countries in the region. DALY risk factors varied by age, with child and maternal malnutrition affecting the younger age groups (aged 28 days to 4 years), whereas high bodyweight and systolic blood pressure affected older people (aged 60–80 years). The proportion of DALYs attributed to high body-mass index increased from 3·7% to 7·5% between 1990 and 2013. Burden of mental health problems and drug use increased. Most increases in DALYs, especially from non-communicable diseases, were due to population growth. The crises in Egypt, Yemen, Libya, and Syria have resulted in a reduction in life expectancy; life expectancy in Syria would have been 5 years higher than that recorded for females and 6 years higher for males had the crisis not occurred. Interpretation: Our study shows that the eastern Mediterranean region is going through a crucial health phase. The Arab uprisings and the wars that followed, coupled with ageing and population growth, will have a major impact on the region's health and resources. The region has historically seen improvements in life expectancy and other health indicators, even under stress. However, the current situation will cause deteriorating health conditions for many countries and for many years and will have an impact on the region and the rest of the world. This is the first part of a two part paper on flow around vibrating wind turbineairfoils. In this part 1, the unsteady, incompressible, viscous and laminar flowover a forced oscillating airfoil is computed using a method based on acommercial Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code. Beforehand, theNavier-Stokes equations are solved for the unsteady flow around a NACA0012 airfoil at a fixed 20° incidence and the low Reynolds numbers of 103and 104 to check the reliability of the CFD computations. Then the flowaround a pitching airfoil is simulated for prescribed values of the reducedfrequency. The Navier-Stokes equations are expressed in ALE formulationand solved with moving mesh. The effects of the discretization schemeand the moving mesh technique are investigated. The hysteresis loops ofthe dynamic stall phenomenon are highlighted.

The present paper is Part 2 of a two parts paper on flow around vibratingwind turbine airfoils. The first part of the paper dealt with a forced oscillatingairfoil. Part 2 focuses on free vibrating airfoils. The flow induced vibrationson two airfoils used for wind turbine blades are investigated by applying afluid structure interaction approach. A commercial Computational FluidDynamics (CFD) code is coupled to a computational structural programthat solves the dynamic equations of the airfoil oscillations. The fluidgoverning equations are described in the Arbitrary Lagrangian Euleriancoordinates and solved with a moving mesh. A straightforward meshingtechnique is implemented in a subroutine called by the CFD code at eachtime step for updating the grid. The method is applied to a free pitchoscillating airfoil and to combined pitch and vertical oscillations known asthe flutter instability.

This paper describes the Reduced Order Modeling (ROM) for fluid rigid body interaction problem and discusses Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) utilisation. The principal difficulty for using POD being the moving domains, a referenced fixed domain is introduced. The POD is applied for the velocity field obtained on the fixed domain. Then a method to reduce dynamical system in rigid body fluid interaction is developed. This method uses the fictitious domain method approach, which consists in treating the entire fluid-solid domain as a fluid. The rigid body is considered as a fluid, by using a high viscosity which can play the role of a penalisation factor of the rigidity constraint, and by adding a distributed Lagrange multiplied associated to this constraint in the weak formulation. The fluid flow problem is then formulated on the reference domain and POD modes are used in the weak formulation. The results are compared with computational solution and discussed.

The aim of this paper is to study the impacts of overshooting convection at a local scale on the water distribution in the tropical UTLS. Overshooting convection is assumed to be one of the processes controlling the entry of water vapour mixing ratio in the stratosphere by injecting ice crystals above the tropopause which later sublimate and hydrate the lower stratosphere. For this purpose, we quantify the individual impact of two cases of overshooting convection in Africa observed during SCOUT-AMMA: the case of 4 August 2006 over Southern Chad which is likely to have influenced the water vapour measurements by micro-SDLA and FLASH-B from Niamey on 5 August, and the case of a mesoscale convective system over Aïr on 5 August 2006. We make use of high resolution (down to 1 km horizontally) nested grid simulations with the three-dimensional regional atmospheric model BRAMS (Brazilian Regional Atmospheric Modelling System). In both cases, BRAMS succeeds in simulating the main features of the convective activity, as well as overshooting convection, though the exact position and time of the overshoots indicated by MSG brightness temperature difference is not fully reproduced (typically 1° displacement in latitude compared with the overshoots indicated by brightness temperature difference from satellite observations for both cases, and several hours shift for the Aïr case on 5 August 2006). Total water budgets associated with these two events show a significant injection of ice particles above the tropopause with maximum values of about 3.7 ton s−1 for the Chad case (4 August) and 1.4 ton s−1 for the Aïr case (5 August), and a total upward cross tropopause transport of about 3300 ton h−1 for the Chad case and 2400 ton h−1 for the Aïr case in the third domain of simulation. The order of magnitude of these modelled fluxes is lower but comparable with similar studies in other tropical areas based on models. These two estimations exhibit significant differences and highlight variability among the cases of the impact of overshooting convection in hydrating the lower stratosphere. We show that the regional enhancement of water above the tropopause is between 0.21 to 0.67 ppmv between 380 and 400 K, generally in the range of other model estimations. The amount of water which remains in the stratosphere after the overshoot is estimated for both cases. A range of 330 to 507 tons is found for the Chad case and an upper limit of 200 tons is found for the Aïr case. Finally we emphasize that the hydrated area in the LS by overshooting convection can be advected relatively far away from the overshoot initial location, with locally mixing ratios of more than 3 ppmv higher than the background level, which is compatible with the balloon borne measurements performed above Niamey in the same air mass, 30 h after the overshoot.

In the prevention of neurodegeneration associated with aging and neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease), neuronal differentiation is of interest. In this context, neurotrophic factors are a family of peptides capable of promoting the growth, survival, and/or differentiation of both developing and immature neurons. In contrast to these peptidyl compounds, polyphenols are not degraded in the intestinal tract and are able to cross the blood–brain barrier. Consequently, they could potentially be used as therapeutic agents in neurodegenerative pathologies associated with neuronal loss, thus requiring the stimulation of neurogenesis. We therefore studied the ability to induce neuronal differentiation of two major polyphenols present in the Mediterranean diet: resveratrol (RSV), a major compound found in grapes and red wine, and apigenin (API), present in parsley, rosemary, olive oil, and honey. The effects of these compounds (RSV and API: 6.25–50 µM) were studied on murine neuro-2a (N2a) cells after 48 h of treatment without or with 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS). Retinoic acid (RA: 6.25–50 µM) was used as positive control. Neuronal differentiation was morphologically evaluated through the presence of dendrites and axons. Cell growth was determined by cell counting and cell viability by staining with fluorescein diacetate (FDA). Neuronal differentiation was more efficient in the absence of serum than with 10% FBS or 10% delipidized FBS. At concentrations inducing neuronal differentiation, no or slight cytotoxicity was observed with RSV and API, whereas RA was cytotoxic. Without FBS, RSV and API, as well as RA, trigger the neuronal differentiation of N2a cells via signaling pathways simultaneously involving protein kinase A (PKA)/phospholipase C (PLC)/protein kinase C (PKC) and MEK/ERK. With 10% FBS, RSV and RA induce neuronal differentiation via PLC/PKC and PKA/PLC/PKC, respectively. With 10% FBS, PKA and PLC/PKC as well as MEK/ERK signaling pathways were not activated in API-induced neuronal differentiation. In addition, the differentiating effects of RSV and API were not inhibited by cyclo[DLeu5] OP, an antagonist of octadecaneuropeptide (ODN) which is a neurotrophic factor. Moreover, RSV and API do not stimulate the expression of the diazepam-binding inhibitor (DBI), the precursor of ODN. Thus, RSV and API are able to induce neuronal differentiation, ODN and its receptor are not involved in this process, and the activation of the (PLC/PKC) signaling pathway is required, except with apigenin in the presence of 10% FBS. These data show that RSV and API are able to induce neuronal differentiation and therefore mimic neurotrophin activity. Thus, RSV and API could be of interest in regenerative medicine to favor neurogenesis.

In this work, the non-isothermal Navier–Stokes equations are studied from the group theory point of view. The symmetry group of the equations is presented and discussed. Some standard turbulence models are analyzed with the symmetries of the equations. A class of turbulence models which preserve the physical properties contained in the symmetry group is built. The proposed turbulence models are applied to an illustrative example of natural convection in a differentially heated cavity, and the results are presented.

Invariant numerical schemes possess properties that may overcome the numerical properties of most of classical schemes. When they are constructed with moving frames, invariant schemes can present more stability and accuracy. The cornerstone is to select relevant moving frames. We present a new algorithmic process to do this. The construction of invariant schemes consists in parametrizing the scheme with constant coefficients. These coefficients are determined in order to satisfy a fixed order of accuracy and an equivariance condition. Numerical applications with the Burgers equation illustrate the high performances of the process.

The average endocyclic angles (Se—Car—Car; ar = aromatic) facing the Se atom are 120.0 (3) and 119.4 (3)°. The Se atom is essentially coplanar with the benzene rings, with Se—Car—Car—Car torsion angles of −179.2 (3) and −179.7 (3)°. In the crystal, molecules are linked via C—H...O hydrogen bonds forming chains propagating along the a-axis direction. The chains are linked via C—H...π interactions, forming a three-dimensional network.

The title dinuclear CuII complex, [Cu2(C17H13N2O2)4], is located on an inversion centre. The CuII atoms are each five-coordinated in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry by two N atoms and two O atoms from two bidentate ligands and one bridging O atom from another ligand. In the dinuclear complex, the Cu...Cu separation is 3.366 (3) Å. In the crystal, complex molecules are linked via weak C—H...O hydrogen bonds, forming a layer parallel to (-101).

The title complex, [Cu(C17H13N2O2)2], crystallizes with two independent molecules in the asymmetric unit. Each CuII atom has a distorted ocahedral coordination environment defined by two N atoms and four O atoms from two tridentate 1-[(E)-(2-methoxyphenyl)diazenyl]naphthalen-2-olate ligands. In the crystal, the two molecules are linked via weak C—H...O hydrogen bonds which in turn stack parallel to [010]. A region of disordered electron density, most probably disordered methanol solvent molecules, was corrected for using the SQUEEZE routine in PLATON [Spek (2015). Acta Cryst. C71, 9–18]. Their formula mass and unit-cell characteristics were not taken into account during refinement.

In the title compound, C9H10N2O4, the planes of the nitro groups subtend dihedral angles of 55.04 (15) and 63.23 (15)° with that of the aromatic ring. These tilts are in opposite senses and the molecule possesses approximate mirror symmetry about a plane normal to the molecule. In the crystal, molecules form stacks in the [100] direction with adjacent molecules related by translation, although the centroid–centroid separation of 4.136 (5) Å is probably too long to regard as a significant aromatic π–π stacking interaction. An extremely weak C—H...O interaction is also present.

The Tleta of Beni Ider region located in the SW of Tetouan (Rif Septentrional) knows many mass instabilities. The diagnostic via the inventory, the mapping and the characterization of mass movements was made by using satellite imagery, aerial photography and field data coupled with existing documents (geological, geomorphological,…). The understanding of both their spatial distribution and the mechanism generating them, is very complex because of the existence of an important number of natural factors (geological, geomorphological, hydrological) in a relative mountainous landscape with deep valleys, steep slopes and significant elevation changes. Thus, a multidisciplinary approach was adopted to elaborate the landslide susceptibility map of the region taking into account interactions and causal relationships between the various natural parameters that tend to accentuate and aggravate the setting of landslides. The multidisciplinary database allowed us to evaluate the susceptibility thanks to a bivariate probabiliste model (Weight of Evidence). The obtained landslide susceptibility map is a major contribution to the development of urban development plans in the region.

The main objective of this study is to create a landslide indexed susceptibility map of Tangier peninsula, by using AHP (Analytical Hierarchical Processes) model to calculate each factor’s weight. The work is made via GIS by using an ArcGIS AHP extension. In the current research, First of all, the four main types of landslides were identified and mapped from existing documents, works and new data which came from either remote sensing or fieldwork. Lithology, land use, slope, hypsometry, exposure, fault density and drainage network density were used as main parameters controlling the occurrence of the selected landslides. Then, afterward, each parameter is classified into a number of significant classes based on their relative influence on gravitational movement genesis. The validity of the susceptibility zoning map which is obtained through linear summation of indexed maps was tested and cross-checked by inventoried and studied landslides. The obtained landslide susceptibility map constitutes a powerful decision-making tool in land-use planning, i.e. New highways, secondary highways, railways, etc. within the national development program in the Northern provinces. It is a necessary step for the landslides hazard assessment in the Tangier peninsula in northern Morocco.
