Egypt, one of the “cradles of civilization”, boasts a history spanning thousands of years, and a richness of archaeological and geosites, unmatched by many other countries in the world. Abu Roash is located within Greater Cairo, 9 km north of the Great Pyramids of Giza. In the present work worked out to establish a Geopark in the studied area, the main question of the study is can the area be a Geopark with local community support? A detailed field work was done in the study and enables the authors to put a detailed map for the future Geopark could be established in the area, The study also attempted, by means of a questionnaire, to assess the knowledge and attitudes of different stakeholders with regards to the geoheritage and the establishment of a geopark. The data compiled were intended to help formulate a strategy towards the design and promotion of what would be the first geopark in metropolitan Cairo. We believe that this geopark would offer geoeducational opportunities to the scientific community and to the general public at large, and would help expand geotourism in Egypt. Geotourism in Abu Roash can easily be coupled with tours of ancient Egyptian sites in the same area. This would provide significant economic benefits to residents of Abu Roash City.

Background: Egypt is just one of many countries around the world that have approved or granted emergency use authorization (EUA) for six different vaccines to prevent COVID-19: Moderna (mRNA-1273), Oxford/AstraZeneca (ChAdOx1 nCoV-19), Janssen (Ad26.COV2. S), Pfizer BioNTech (BNT162b2), Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine and Sinovac-CoronaVac COVID-19 vaccine. Objectives: to evaluate the platelet count and blood coagulation profile in COVID-19 vaccine recipients. Patients and methods: this cross-sectional study was at Qena University Hospital and Clinical Pathology Departments involving 400 adult individuals with male to female ratio 1:1 vaccinated against COVID-19 over 6 months from 1/12/2021 to 1/6/2022: 135(33.8%) received Sinopharm vaccine, 123(30.8%) received Sinovac vaccine, 68(17%) received Pfizer vaccine, 51(12.8%) received AstraZeneca vaccine, 12(3%) received Moderna vaccine, and 11(2.8%) received Janssen vaccine. Results: the mean age of 39.75 ± 13.56 years with a range 18-95 years, the mean platelets count was 229-487 x103/mm3 with a range 280.56±96.62 x103/mm3, the mean value of PT was 13.02±0.7 sec and ranged between 12-16.8 sec, the mean value of PTT was 30.09±3.45 sec and ranged between 24-50 sec, the mean value of D-dimer was 0.35±0.13 mg/l and ranged between 0.19-0.57 mg/l. There were insignificant differences in all types of vaccinations concerning the platelet count, D-dimer, PT, PTT, and INR. Conclusion: Vaccination versus SARS-CoV-2 remains crucial for controlling the COVID-19 pandemic. There is no significant difference in all types of vaccinations concerning D-dimer, PT, PTT, and INR or concerning platelet count.

Background:Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is defined as the development of carbohydrate intolerance during pregnancy, excluding overt diabetes. GDM poses a risk of short-term adverse perinatal outcomes and long-term metabolic morbidity to women and their newborns. Objectives:The aim of this study was to determine the role of first trimester glycosylated haemoglobin as a predictor of gestational diabetes mellitus. Patients and methods: The study was carried out at Qena University Hospital, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The glcosylated hemoglobin investigation included 200 high risk pregnant ladies from the start trimester taking care of our outpatient facility and in tolerant from May 2019 to May 2020. Results: Patients who developed gestational diabetes mellitus with HA1c < 5.7% were 12.4% while with HA1c ≥ 5.7% were 47.3%. Also, there is significant statistically difference between both groups (p value= 0.015).ROC curve for HbA1c in 1st trimester as a predictor of gestational diabetes mellitus showed that the cut-off point was ≥6.2%, sensitivity was 93.3% and specificity was 90.0%. Conclusion: The detection of glycosylated hemoglobin in the first trimester is a promising predictor biomarker for diagnosis of GDM and in the future may replace other basic investigations.

Background: Allergic rhinitis is a common disease of immune origin. It affects the quality of life of patients negatively. Objectives: To evaluate the changes in iron profile in allergic rhinitis patients. Patients and methods: This study was conducted on thirty patients with allergic rhinitis. All of the participants were subjected to clinical evaluation and the following investigations: Complete blood picture, Serum ferritin, Serum iron and total iron binding capacity (TIBC) and IgE. Visual analogue scale (VAS) score was used to measure the severity of allergic rhinitis. Results: Among the studied patients, there were 18 males (60%) and 12 females (40%), the mean age of studied patients was 11.3 ± 4.2 (SD) years with mean onset age of 4.6 ± 3.01(SD) years and mean duration of disease of 6.7 ± 2.9 years. There were 8 patients (26.7%) with positive family history in the studied patients. The incidence of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia was significantly higher in children with severe allergic rhinitis compared with mild cases. Also we found statistically significant difference (p-value = 0.037) between mild, moderate & severe cases of allergic rhinitis as regard Hb, MCH, HCT, ferritin, serum iron and TIBC. A statistically significant difference (p-value = 0.015) was noted between mild, moderate & severe cases as regard IgE. Serum IgE is correlated with the severity of allergic rhinitis in children. Conclusion: Prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in pediatric patients with allergic rhinitis is higher than in patients without atopic disease. Iron deficiency anemia increases markedly with severity of allergic rhinitis. Serum IgE is correlated with the severity of allergic rhinitis in children.

The experiment was carried out to evaluate the quality of anhydrous milk fat (AMF) of cows and buffaloes supplemented with flaxseed oil (FO), soybean oil (SO), or their mixture (FSO). Lactating crossbred cows and buffaloes were fed with control diet or with one of three supplements: 2% FO, 2% SO, and 2% FSO according to a double 4 x 4 Latin Square Design. The diets with FO, SO, or FSO reduced saturated FA, mainly C4:0, C14:0 and C16:0, while increased the unsaturated FA C18:1 and C18:2 in milk from cows and buffaloes. Cholesterol content decreased in cow's AMF while increased in buffalo's AMF when a diet supplemented with FO, SO, or FSO. The diet with SO or FSO increased the content of vitamin E in AMF obtained from cows (25.06 and 17.89 mg 100 g-1) and buffaloes (28.48 and 30.32 mg 100 g-1) compared with the control diet (11.02 and 15.68 mg 100 g-1), respectively, which correlated positively with scavenging activity for DPPH• (r2 = 0.66) and ABTS• (r2 = 0.67) radicals. Solid fat content (SFC) was high for cow’s AMF, with 58.12-60.37% at 5°C compared to that of buffalo's AMF, with 52.37-56.98%, but was low for cow's AMF at >15°C. Finally, supplementing a diet with vegetable oils, particularly SO, improves the quality of AMF; increases USFA/SFA ratio, vitamin E content, and antioxidant activities

Abstract Purpose To document the presentation of unilateral combined endophthalmitis and orbital cellulitis in patients with COVID-19 infection and study their prognosis. Patients and methods This interventional case series study included 9 patients referred to the Ophthalmology Department, Minia University Hospital with unilateral combined endophthalmitis and orbital cellulitis between April 2020 and March 2021. In addition to the COVID-19 work-up, all patients were subjected to full ophthalmological evaluation and managed according to their ophthalmic and systemic disease. Results The patients were 5 females and 4 males. They had clinical, laboratory and imaging findings that confirmed COVID-19 infection. All patients had unilateral endophthalmitis with orbital cellulitis and profound visual loss in the affected eye. Three patients died due to respiratory failure, while 6 patients recovered systemically. The survived patients developed atrophia bulbi in 4 patients and in 2 patients, the globe retained normal size but with complete visual loss. Conclusion Combined endophthalmitis and orbital cellulitis can be one of the early presentations of patients with COVID-19 infection with poor visual prognosis. Produce and compare soft cheese with potential benefits of human health from Egyptian buffalo's and cow's milk was studied. Eight Egyptian lactating buffalos and cows were fed a total mixed ration supplemented with either 0% oil (CD), 2% flaxseed oil (DFO), 2% soybean oil (DSO), or 2% of their mixture (1:1, DFSO) according to a double 4 x 4 Latin Square design. Milk yield was similar between buffalo's diets but was higher in cows fed a DFO, DSO or DFSO resulting in 11.15, 8.21% or 8.97% increases compared with the control diet, respectively. Milk composition was not significantly affected in both buffalos and cows fed diets. The DFO, DSO or DFSO displayed decreased short-chain fatty acids, especially DSO and DFSO (3.73 and 3.33%, respectively) when compared to CD for buffalo milk (6.32%). The DSO and DFSO were more effective for increasing unsaturated fatty acids followed by the DFSO in buffalo's milk fat (42.31 and 41.90 %), whereas DFO and DFSO were more effective in cow's milk fat (39.67 and 39.84%), respectively. DFO, DSO or DFSO had no significant effect on the yield, composition and sensory properties of resultant soft cheese compared to the CD for both lactating cows and buffalos. During storage, a diet rich in unsaturated fatty acids enhances protein proteolysis and antioxidant activity of soft cheese during storage compared to the CD especially for soft cheese produced from buffalo's milk.

Although there are numerous definitions and theories of the concept of development, many developing countries continue to suffer from problems associated with lack of development and environmental degradation. It seems that states in developing countries are not effectively facing the increasing requirements for development. In response, institutions and organizations of civil society stepped-up to promote the realization of social development and self-reliance among the citizens. In consequence, the past twenty years witnessed the birth of many national and international non-governmental organizations which started to deliver social services to the population. However, and with reference to Egypt, conflicting opinions questioning the relationship between these organizations and the development of civil society have started to emerge. This paper attempts to investigate first the role of these societies in the development of civil society and review the controversy over this role. The attempt will also touch upon and evaluate several studies which relate to the role of these organizations in the development of civil society in Egypt.

Abstract Introduction Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is microangiopathy causing ischemia leading to proliferative diabetic retinopathy and macular edema. Panretinal photocoagulation (PRP) reverses the ischemia leading to regression of neovessels. Most previous studies showed the large vessel effects of PRP, while optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) allowed noninvasive quantification of microvascular retinal changes. Aim To study the effect of PRP on microvascular retinal vessels in a detailed manner at different retinal and choroidal levels using OCTA. Patients and methods This study was a prospective interventional study. 30 eyes of 18 diabetic patients with PDR were included. All patients were evaluated clinically and with OCTA (Avanti RTVue-XR system, Optovue) to evaluate superficial and deep vessels density (VDs), choroidal flow, and FAZ area before PRP (base line) and 1 month and 6 months after PRP. Results PRP improved vessels density at superficial (SCP), deep (DCP), and choriocapillaris levels. Foveal vessel density at SCP and DCP were statistically significantly increased. SCP was 28.76 ± 2.56 at base line and was increased to 29.84 ± 2.47 and 30.89 ± 2.20 after 1 month and after 6 months, respectively. DCP was 34.08 ± 5.59 at base line and was increased to 34.93 ± 5.66 and 36.09 ± 5.62 after 1 month and after 6 months, respectively. Foveal choriocapillaris was statistically significantly increased from 63.04 ± 2.66 at base line to 63.48 ± 2.65 and 63.98 ± 2.78 after 1 month and 6 months, respectively. Choroidal flow was increased from 1.74 ± 0.07 at base line to 1.75 ± 0.09 at 1 month which was nonsignificant (P = 0.72), but it was significantly increased to 1.87 ± 0.27 6 months after PRP (P = 0.009). FAZ area was significantly improved after PRP. FAZ area was decreased from 0.56 ± 0.27 at base line to 0.50 ± 0.21 after 1 month and to 0.46 ± 0.21 after 6 months. Conclusion OCTA parameters were significantly improved by PRP in PDR patients, possibly due to redistribution of blood in occluded capillary plexuses. Trials registry: NCT04976361.
