IntroductionAs global resource demands and environmental challenges intensify, China's vast marine resources present a significant opportunity for sustainable economic development. This study investigates the impact of financial development on high-quality growth in China's marine economy across 11 coastal regions from 2011 to 2020.MethodsWe examine a mediation and moderation model linking financial development and marine economic quality in China, where the marine economy increasingly relies on financial support. This study proposes marine innovation output and industrial structure upgradation as mediators, with marine capital investment as a moderator.ResultsOur findings reveal that financial development significantly promotes high-quality marine economic growth, albeit with regional heterogeneity. The strongest effect is observed in the Eastern Marine Economic Zone, while the Southern Marine Economic Zone shows the weakest impact. Marine scientific research and industrial structure upgrading serve as key mediating factors, with the former demonstrating a stronger intermediary effect. Notable, marine capital investment positively moderates the relationship between financial development and marine economic growth.DiscussionThis study innovatively combines macro-finance and micro-finance indicators to construct a comprehensive financial development index system. It incorporates a multi-dimensional approach to measuring high-quality development in coastal regions, challenging one-size-fits-all models by highlighting regional variations. By providing insights into specific differences and underlying mechanisms, our study offers valuable guidance for policymakers in crafting region-specific strategies to leverage financial development for sustainable marine economic growth.

Background: The present study aimed to develop and validate a prediction nomogram model for 5-year all-cause mortality in diabetic patients with hypertension. Methods: Data were extracted from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). A total of 3291 diabetic patients with hypertension in the NHANES cycles for 1999–2014 were selected and randomly assigned at a ratio of 8:2 to the training cohort (n = 2633) and validation cohort (n = 658). Multivariable Cox regression was conducted to establish a visual nomogram model for predicting the risk of 5-year all-cause mortality. Receiver operating characteristic curves and C-indexes were used to evaluate the discriminant ability of the prediction nomogram model for all-cause mortality. Survival curves were created using the Kaplan–Meier method and compared by the log-rank test. Results: The nomogram model included eight independent predictors: age, sex, education status, marital status, smoking, serum albumin, blood urea nitrogen, and previous cardiovascular disease. Abstract Zinc borates have merits of low voltage polarization and suitable redox potential, but usually suffer from low rate capability and poor cycling life, as an emerging anode candidate for Na+ storage. Here, a new intercalator‐guided synthesis strategy is reported to simultaneously improve rate capability and stabilize cycling life of N, B co‐doped carbon/zinc borates (CBZG). The strategy relies on a uniform dispersion of precursors and simultaneously stimulated combustion activation and solid‐state reactions capable of scalable preparation. The Na+ storage mechanism of CBZG is studied: 1) ex situ XRD and XPS demonstrate two‐step reaction sequence of Na+ storage: Zn6O(OH)(BO3)3+Na++e−↔3ZnO+Zn3B2O6+NaBO2+0.5H2 ①, Zn3B2O6+6Na++6e−↔3Zn+3Na2O+B2O3 ②; reaction ① is irreversible in ether‐based electrolyte while reversible in ester‐based electrolyte. 2) Electrochemical kinetics reveal that ether‐based electrolyte possesses faster Na+ storage than ester‐based electrolyte. The composite demonstrates an excellent capacity of 437.4 mAh g−1 in a half‐cell, together with application potential in full cells (discharge capacity of 440.1 mAh g−1 and stable cycle performance of 2000 cycles at 5 A g−1). These studies will undoubtedly provide an avenue for developing novel synthetic methods of carbon‐based borates and give new insights into the mechanism of Na+ storage in ether‐based electrolyte for the desirable sodium storage.

Central nervous system (CNS) diseases have been a growing threat to the health of humanity, emphasizing the urgent need of exploring the pathogenesis and therapeutic approaches of various CNS diseases. Primary neurons are directly obtained from animals or humans, which have wide applications including disease modeling, mechanism exploration and drug development. However, traditional two-dimensional (2D) monoculture cannot resemble the native microenvironment of CNS. With the increasing understanding of the complexity of the CNS and the remarkable development of novel biomaterials, in vitro models have experienced great innovation from 2D monoculture toward three-dimensional (3D) multicellular culture. The scope of this review includes the progress of various in vitro models of primary neurons in recent years to provide a holistic view of the modalities and applications of primary neuron models and how they have been connected with the revolution of biofabrication techniques. Special attention has been paid to the interaction between primary neurons and biomaterials. First, a brief introduction on the history of CNS modeling and primary neuron culture was conducted. Next, detailed progress in novel in vitro models were discussed ranging from 2D culture, ex vivo model, spheroid, scaffold-based model, 3D bioprinting model, and microfluidic chip. Modalities, applications, advantages, and limitations of the aforementioned models were described separately. Finally, we explored future prospects, providing new insights into how basic science research methodologies have advanced our understanding of the CNS, and highlighted some future directions of primary neuron culture in the next few decades.

Ratoon rice (RR) has been regarded as a labor-saving and beneficial production system. Nitrogen (N) surplus and reactive N losses (Nr losses) are effective environmental indicators used to evaluate the performance of N management. Few studies have assessed N surplus and Nr losses for Chinese RR. In this study, Chinese RR planting areas were divided into South China (SC), the southern part of East China (SEC), Central China (CC), the northern part of East China (NEC), and Southwest China (SW). N surplus and Nr losses were also calculated based on 782 studies using a quadratic model under optimized N management for the highest yield (OPT-yield), the highest N-use efficiency (NUE) (OPT-NUE), and the highest grain N uptake (OPT-N uptake). The RR yields in the five regions ranged from 9.98 to 13.59 t ha−1. The high-yield record was observed in SEC, while the low-yield record was observed in NEC. The highest and the lowest Nr losses were found in NEC and SC, respectively. N surplus was reduced, while the yield was maintained in SEC, CC, NEC, and SW under OPT-yield and OPT-N uptake, and N surplus and Nr losses were reduced in the five regions when targeting the highest NUE. Farmers should be encouraged to plant RR in SEC and CC. RR was also a good choice when N management measures were conducted in three other regions. To achieve a win–win situation for both yield and the environment, OPT-yield could serve to improve the N management of current conventional practices.

The deubiquitinating enzyme (DUB)–mediated cleavage of ubiquitin plays a critical role in balancing protein synthesis and degradation. Ubiquitin-specific protease 4 (USP4), a member of the largest subfamily of cysteine protease DUBs, removes monoubiquitinated and polyubiquitinated chains from its target proteins. USP4 contains a DUSP (domain in USP)–UBL (ubiquitin-like) domain and a UBL-insert catalytic domain, sharing a common domain organization with its paralogs USP11 and USP15. USP4 plays a critical role in multiple cellular and biological processes and is tightly regulated under normal physiological conditions. When its expression or activity is aberrant, USP4 is implicated in the progression of a wide range of pathologies, especially cancers. In this review, we comprehensively summarize the current knowledge of USP4 structure, biological functions, pathological roles, and cellular regulation, highlighting the importance of exploring effective therapeutic interventions to target USP4.

In the present work, the properties of graphene-nanoplates/aluminum (GNPs/Al) composites with a heterogeneous matrix design were investigated. The advantage of the heterogeneous matrix was investigated by the finite element method. Then, 0.6 wt.% (GNPs/6061Al)/2024Al (heterogeneous matrix) and 0.6 wt.% GNPs/6061Al composites were prepared by ball milling, pressure infiltration technology, and hot extrusion. The aggregation of GNPs was eliminated and the interlayer slide of GNPs was observed. Mechanical property test results show that the mechanical properties of the heterogeneous matrix composite are better than that of a homogeneous matrix composite, including strength, elastic modulus, and plasticity. It is assumed that the heterogeneous matrix design enhances the non-uniform stress field during the deformation treatment. This improves the dispersion of GNPs, grain refinement, and produces the few-layer graphene (FLG), thus enhancing the strengthening effect of GNPs. Meanwhile, heterogeneous matrix design is thought to introduce more hardening mechanisms to increase the plasticity of materials and improve the intrinsic trade-off of strength and toughness.

Objective: The aim of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in distinguishing between benign and malignant cervical lymph nodes in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).Material and Methods: A total of 144 NPC patients with enlarged superficial cervical lymph nodes underwent CEUS examination. The comparison of CEUS image characteristics between malignant and benign cervical lymph nodes was performed in this study as well. We analyzed parameters of the time–intensity curve (TIC), which includes time to peak (TP), area under the gamma curve (AUC), and peak intensity (PI). Furthermore, receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was also investigated to evaluate the diagnostic value of CEUS.Result: We conducted 144 lymph node examinations in total, where 64 cases were biopsy-proven benign nodules and 80 cases were biopsy-proven metastatic nodules. The vast majority of the benign nodes displayed centrifugal perfusion (96.88%, 62/64) and homogeneous enhancement (93.75%, 60/64), while most of the malignant nodes showed centripetal perfusion (92.50%, 74/80) and inhomogeneous 80.00% (64/80). In addition, quantitative analysis showed that CEUS parameters including PI, TP, and AUC in benign lymph nodes (12.51 ± 2.15, 23.79 ± 11.80, and 1110.33 ± 286.17, respectively) were significantly higher than that in the malignant nodes (10.51 ± 2.98, 16.52 ± 6.95, and 784.09 ± 340.24, respectively). The assistance of the three aforementioned parameters and CEUS image characteristics would result in an acceptable diagnostic value.Conclusion: Our results suggest that imaging perfusion patterns as well as quantitative parameters obtained from CEUS provide valuable information for the evaluation of cervical lymph nodes in NPC patients.
