Abstract This study presents a bibliometric analysis of the relationship between digital innovation and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with a specific focus on the concept of green growth. Green growth refers to fostering economic growth while ensuring environmental sustainability, making it a critical framework for achieving the SDGs. By systematically reviewing a decade's worth of academic literature, we quantify the contributions of digital technologies to sustainable development initiatives. Utilizing data from prominent scholarly databases, we analyzed 271 articles to identify emerging trends, key themes, and research gaps within this interdisciplinary field. Our findings reveal significant patterns in how digital innovations, such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT), are being leveraged to promote economic efficiency, resource conservation, and social equity—core tenets of green growth. Furthermore, we examine the geographical disparities in the adoption and impact of these technologies across developed and developing countries, highlighting unique challenges and opportunities. This bibliometric analysis not only underscores the transformative potential of digital tools in advancing sustainable practices but also emphasizes the necessity for targeted strategies that align technological advancements with the principles of green growth and inclusivity. The insights derived from this research provide valuable implications for policymakers, practitioners, and academics seeking to enhance the synergy between digital innovation and sustainable development.

Abstract Using a qualitative approach, this study examines the role of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in promoting sustainable agriculture and environmental protection among smallholder farmers in tropical Africa. It emphasises how tools such as community radios, mobile phones, satellite systems, and artificial intelligence provide crucial market data, weather forecasts, and agricultural practices. The research highlights the need for equitable access to ICT solutions to narrow the digital divide and foster sustainable development. Among these technologies, community radio stations and mobile phones are identified as the most accessible and affordable options for many farmers, and they can effectively spread knowledge about sustainable practices. While advanced technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT), drones, and artificial intelligence have the potential to enhance agricultural productivity and environmental conservation, their adoption in tropical Africa is often hindered by challenges related to infrastructure and literacy. This study demonstrates the role of ICTs in enhancing agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability among smallholder farmers in tropical Africa. It emphasises the need for equitable access to digital tools and strong policy frameworks to tackle infrastructure and literacy challenges, which are essential for closing the digital divide. The study underscores the need for policy formulation to include these strategies and for professionals to adopt them to enhance agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability among smallholder farmers in tropical Africa.

The present study is relevant in the context of the formation of the digital management concept Smart City 3.0 in the context of sustainable green development goals. These goals are to be achieved by combining digitalisation technologies with the principles of environmental sustainability. The purpose of the study is to determine the conditions for the formation of a digital concept of city management 3.0 in the context of sustainable development goals. Research objectives: 1) to study the concept of the digital concept of city management or Smart City and the conditions for its implementation; 2) to reveal the concept of Smart City 3.0 development in the context of foreign experience; 3) to reveal the essence and significance of the concept of environmental sustainability of smart Smart City 3.0 and the promotion of sustainable green development. The research methodology is a systematic, cross-cultural, interdisciplinary approach to understanding the complex impact of digital technologies on all aspects of sustainable development in digital green smart cities 3.0, in particular on the economic, social and environmental dimensions. It allows for the interaction between digital innovations and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be considered in a single structure. The Smart City 3.0 concept views the city as an integrated ecosystem. This approach ensures efficient infrastructure management and also helps to reduce environmental impact, improve the quality of life of citizens, and engage them in decision-making. The article examines the pivotal elements of the Smart City 3.0 concept, encompassing the deployment of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data and automated systems to enhance the urban environment. It has been demonstrated that the implementation of these technologies can result in a notable reduction in energy consumption, the optimisation of traffic flows, a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, and an enhancement of the environmental sustainability of the city. The study analyses the global exemplars of digital urban management, identifies opportunities and challenges for the development of Ukrainian cities in the direction of smart and green management, and offers recommendations for their adaptation based on global experience.

This research aims to investigate the relationships and mutual influence between the digitalization of international trade and customer satisfaction in the context of the post-COVID-19 economy. To achieve this objective, a comprehensive research project has been developed, involving a quantitative approach that combines the advantages of experiments and surveys. Customer satisfaction was assessed based on key service quality parameters in the SERVQUAL model. The study involved 4 stores operating on the AliExpress international trading platform. The sample included a total of 3796 customers. The research findings confirmed the impact of digitalization on customer satisfaction in international trading operations across nearly all dimensions of the SERVQUAL model. The implementation of basic digital innovations substantially enhanced reliability, order processing and delivery speed, product packaging, and the process of selecting and ordering goods, as well as the regularity of notifications and data security. However, the introduction of a chatbot significantly reduced customer satisfaction with the provision of additional information, leading to a decrease in customer empathy. The academic contribution of this study lies in its ability to complement and expand the scientific understanding of the impact of digitalization on customer satisfaction in international trade in the post-COVID-19 era. The study demonstrated that not all digital innovations are perceived equally positively by customers and do not necessarily lead to increased satisfaction. Accordingly, the practical outcome of this research is the empirical confirmation of the need to test customer satisfaction when implementing digital innovations.

Russian aggression adversely affected the economy of Ukraine and emphasized the need to adapt the best practices of EU countries to determine steps to restore the country’s competitiveness. This study aims to determine the influence of the innovative development of countries on their competitiveness and identify prospects for Ukraine’s post-war economic recovery. The study constructed neural networks to assess the relationships between the factors of innovative development and the competitiveness of the EU countries and Ukraine. Six main factors of innovative development of countries are identified: “innovations in business (S1),” “intellectual property (S2)”, “innovations in industry (S3),” “eco-innovations (S4),” “innovation management (S5),” and “digital innovations (S5).” Groups of factors are determined by the strength of influence (strong, moderate, or weak). For Ukraine, S1 and S6 have a strong effect (33.3%), S5 shows moderate (16.7%), S2, S3, and S4 show weak effects (50%). For EU countries, S1 and S6 have a strong influence, S2 and S3 – moderate, S5 and S4 – weak. This comparative analysis concluded that EU countries consider intellectual property, green economy, and state innovation policy as key components of their competitiveness. The results discovered a weak relationship between intellectual property protection, innovation in industry, and competitiveness of Ukraine compared to EU countries. However, digital innovations significantly and positively affect Ukraine’s competitiveness.

The healthcare industry is constantly evolving to bridge the inequality gap and provide precision care to its diverse population. One of these approaches is the integration of digital health tools into healthcare delivery. Significant milestones such as reduced maternal mortality, rising and rapidly proliferating health tech start-ups, and the use of drones and smart devices for remote health service delivery, among others, have been reported. However, limited access to family planning, migration of health professionals, climate change, gender inequity, increased urbanization, and poor integration of private health firms into healthcare delivery rubrics continue to impair the attainment of universal health coverage and health equity. Health policy development for an integrated health system without stigma, addressing inequalities of all forms, should be implemented. Telehealth promotion, increased access to infrastructure, international collaborations, and investment in health interventions should be continuously advocated to upscale the current health landscape and achieve health equity.

With the growth of technology and the availability of virtual tools, the creation of interactive and dynamic learning environments that increase students’ interest and motivation becomes relevant and possible. The study aimed to analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of using virtual laboratories in the process of learning foreign languages. Analytical research methods, generalisation, systematisation, and surveying were used in the research. The study demonstrated that virtual reality (VR) could change the traditional approach to language learning through immersive experiences of students’ interaction with language structures. The article highlighted technical and pedagogical challenges that require an integrated approach. The study confirmed that mobile learning and augmented reality (AR) offer new education opportunities, providing interactivity and personalisation. The research concluded that augmented reality could improve the learning of complex concepts and increase student motivation. This article highlighted a need for effective pedagogical strategies for the successful implementation of virtual reality and augmented reality. A survey of students at Northwest Normal University was also conducted. The survey of students who use virtual labs to learn foreign languages indicates that they are more effective and useful for the learning process, including the use of Duolingo, Rosetta Stone, Babbel, Memrise, Busuu, Lingodeer, BBC Languages, and Italki. Although the majority of students have a positive attitude towards this technology, some prefer traditional methods, which indicates the need for additional adaptation and support of virtual resources to ensure their optimal effectiveness. The study findings can be used to adapt existing foreign language curricula and courses to the use of virtual research laboratory tools

The rise of Artificial Intelligence in educational contexts has sparked both excitement and trepidation, highlighting the urgent need to investigate its implications, especially in English Language Teaching. In light of this context, this study aimed to find out how English language teachers perceive the pedagogical benefits and challenges posed by ChatGPT when incorporated into ELT and identify potential avenues for such digital innovations. Adopting a qualitative research design, data were purposively collected by distributing an open-ended questionnaire to 46 English language teachers from multiple countries. This sample was solicited via the academic and research platform ResearchGate, assuring a broad representation of academic ranks and teaching experience. Thematic analysis was used to unpack the rich textual responses. Findings revealed that, while teachers recognize ChatGPT's potential to facilitate personalized and dynamic learning interactions, they also harboured perceptible concerns regarding linguistic fidelity, potential overreliance on the tool, and the possibility of creativity suppression. In addition, the perceived limitations of the instrument in developing crucial language skills such as listening and speaking were highlighted. The data further emphasized the need for targeted professional development and agile curriculum adaptation to maximize the potential of ChatGPT and other AI tools. This research contributes to the burgeoning discourse on AI's interaction with ELT by incorporating a global perspective, making it invaluable for teachers, curriculum designers, and tech innovators. Limitations, recommendations and implications were provided.

Subject. The article explores the issues of assessing the effectiveness of models of incentive legal regimes of entrepreneurial activity in the sphere of digital innovations and technologies.Purpose. The purpose of the study was to develop approaches to determining the effectiveness of incentive legal regimes of entrepreneurial activity in the field of digital innovation and technology, as well as to develop criteria and methods for evaluating existing models of these legal regimes.Methodology. The methodological basis of this study are general scientific methods (analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction), private scientific methods (interpretation of legal acts), as well as content analysis, study of reports and analytical references of governmental organizations.Results. The general approaches to assessing the effectiveness of law and legislation existing both in Russia and abroad are analyzed. The author defines the types of effectiveness of incentive legal regimes of entrepreneurial activity in the sphere of digital innovations and technologies, as well as their criteria. The author's methodology for assessing the effectiveness of incentive legal regimes in the sphere of digital innovations and technologies is proposed.Conclusions. The methodology proposed in this study for assessing the effectiveness of such legal regimes can be used as part of the actual impact assessment, and the conclusions reached by the authors may form the basis for further future research on legal regimes for entrepreneurial activity.

In connection with the adoption of Federal Law No. 258-FZ of July 31, 2020 “On experimental legal regimes in the field of digital innovation in the Russian Federation,” a number of initiatives have been developed to establish experimental legal regimes in the field of telemedicine. The idea of using digital technologies in medicine is certainly relevant. On the one hand, the prospect of remotely receiving medical services is practically in demand; on the other, the level of technology development currently allows for a significant expansion of their implementation. The need to turn to the institution of an experimental legal regime is due to the fact that the current legislation contains norms that seriously complicate the process of widespread dissemination of telemedicine services.The purpose of the study is to reveal the theoretical characteristics of the concept of telemedicine and its current state, to identify legal obstacles to its development, to conduct a comparative analysis of existing draft programs of experimental regimes, to assess the problems and prospects for the development of telemedicine technologies in modern Russian practice. The study is based on domestic and foreign scientific sources of both legal and medical nature, as well as current and projected legal acts in the field of medical services, digital technologies, and personal data protection. Formal-legal, comparative-legal, statistical, and prognostic methods are used. Several problems that require a conceptual solution, including the issue of the safety of personal data and the issue of responsibility for a medical error resulting from the use of artificial intelligence technology or a technical device have been identified. Both are unlikely to be completely resolved at the current level of legal regulation and technological development. This, however, only confirms the need to introduce appropriate experimental regimes in order to use the accumulated empirical material to find solutions to existing and abstractly predictable problems.

The processes of globalisation, the ongoing threat of the COVID-19 epidemic, the continuing war in Ukraine, and constantly emerging new technological solutions require organisations to adapt to changes constantly. Meanwhile, implemented business process management (BPM) often fails to integrate processes and knowledge resources. The awareness of the IT systems’ role in management processes is still lacking. These premises influenced the implementation of the main research goal to identify the approach of Polish private and public enterprises and various industries to the BPM integration with knowledge management (MK) in the context of using new information technologies. The presented research results justify the usefulness of building relationships between the process and knowledge resources under dynamically changing conditions using IT systems. The diagnostic survey results confirmed the key importance of developing such BPM and MK elements as evidence-based decisions, strategic goals, measurement systems, databases, digital innovations, and IT use for data processing. The presented material can support managers of various organisation types in decision-making processes by fully understanding the IT systems’ role and potential in process and knowledge management. Also, the article’s implications are a source of guidelines, helping organisations to implement management systems based on modern technologies. The value of the publication is a wide range of respondents: 107 large, medium, small, and micro-enterprises operating in Poland. The article’s research results also concern economic activities such as production, logistics, transport, banking, insurance, IT, telecommunications/ media, public administration, healthcare/pharmaceuticals, consulting, energy, and construction.

The article is devoted to the study of the role of existing trends of digital transformation in stimulating the innovative development of the national economy. It has been proven that the processes of digital transformation in today's conditions affect almost all spheres of life in society. The leading role of the implementation of digital transformation processes in ensuring sustainable economic development, forming the prerequisites for bringing the country's economy closer to more progressive technological systems is substantiated. The need to implement a system approach to the innovative development of the national economy, which must be implemented on a permanent basis, is emphasized. Attention is focused on the fact that the level of readiness of the national economy for innovative development is determined by its resource provision, among which a significant role belongs to financial provision. According to the results of the analysis of the financial state of the national banking system, the existing digital transformations of the credit services market, the feasibility of using its financial potential to ensure the innovative development of the State's economy is substantiated. It has been proven that the implementation of the strategic vector of the development of the national economy, aimed at innovative development, as well as close cooperation with the international banking system, will require the development of new and the application of existing digital transformations of the credit services market. An author's approach to revealing the role of digital transformation of the credit services market in the innovative development of the national economy is proposed, aimed at considering the interests of all participants in this process, ensuring the macro-financial stability of the State and forming the necessary potential for its sustainable development. The key advantages of the digital transformation of the credit services market, as a significant source of financial resources necessary for the implementation of strategic innovative development of the State, have been determined. The need to deepen methodological approaches to the development of the credit services market in the context of its dynamic digital transformation, as a significant component of resource provision for the innovative development of the national economy, is substantiated.

The examination of the impact of digital innovations on employee motivation and engagement is crucial given the rapid technological advancements. This study focused on digital HRM practices, such as digital interaction platforms. The results indicated that respondents generally had positive to neutral views on these practices, with big data analytics receiving the highest rating for its potential to enhance organizational performance and employee engagement. The study revealed a moderately strong positive correlation between the use of digital platforms and big data analytics, suggesting a holistic approach to digital transformation in HRM. However, a weak correlation between digital innovations and engagement suggests that the direct impact of digital tools on employee engagement is limited by other factors. Larger companies tend to implement advanced digital HRM practices more due to their greater resources. The study’s limitations include a restricted sample from the Central and Eastern European region and reliance on self-assessed data. Future studies should include more diverse regions and long-term studies, combining quantitative data with qualitative insights. Digital innovations in HRM offer promises for process improvement and data-driven decision-making, but their impact on employee engagement is complex and requires an integrated approach of technological and managerial practices.

The purpose of the article. This article explores the trend of fintech firms obtaining banking licenses, challenging their traditional advantage of not being banking institutions. It investigates two hypotheses: H1 – Banking licenses bring more opportunities than threats for fintech companies; H2 – Obtaining licenses positively impacts their profitability. Methodology. The study utilizes the literature review and applies Porter’s Five Forces methodology to assess the strategic implications of banking licenses for fintech firms. Financial analysis is conducted on three selected companies based on market capitalization, banking license timeline, and geographical diversification. Profitability ratios (ROE and ROA) are analyzed before and after obtaining the license. Results of the research. Fintech firms with banking licenses experience more opportunities than threats, as confirmed by Porter’s analysis. However, only one out of three analysed companies immediately improved profitability ratios after obtaining the license. In conclusion, obtaining banking licenses opens growth opportunities for fintech firms, but immediate profitability improvements are not guaranteed. Additional requirements and challenges arise during the transition to a banking area. The study acknowledges limitations and suggests further research to confirm and expand these findings in the evolving fintech landscape.

Introduction: Pneumonia is a severe respiratory disease threatening public health and requires timely and accurate diagnosis and early intervention for effective treatment. The emergence of telemedicine during COVID-19 has offered new solutions to solve health problem. This review examines recent studies focusing on effectiveness of telemedicine intervention in pneumonia care. Methods: We systematically searched five databases to retrieve original research that addressed telemedicine's use in pneumonia diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, or patient assistance. Two independent reviewers performed screening to confirm alignment with inclusion criteria. The findings were synthesised narratively. Results: A total of five studies were included in the review. The interventions across studies were telephonic follow-ups, Smartphone-based algorithm for diagnosing pneumonia, telemedicine set-up at patients' homes and Interactive videoconferencing. The findings suggest that telephone consultation is effective for patients with low-risk respiratory infections and may be more effective in early diagnosis of pneumonia patients. Conclusion: The planning for work in telemedicine, whether in regulations or private practice, is necessary to ensure the quality, safety, and consistency of telemedicine practices. The use and availability of telemedicine services, especially in rural areas and on mobile phones, must be expanded to reduce problems in the region.

Despite the agribusiness industry's potential, it is still characterised by a high level of conventional means of production, denying it numerous opportunities along the value chain in Africa. Meanwhile, adopting modern means of production using digital innovations can boost farmers' efficiency. Given the relevance of digital innovations within the agribusiness industry, the current paper gives an overview of digital innovations in the agribusiness industry, particularly in Africa, by synthesising existing literature on digital innovations to consolidate scattered ideas and give recommendations for practice and future studies. The PRISMA technique was adopted to synthesise 47 existing relevant articles from the Scopus database. Bibliometric tools such as VOSviewer and R-Package-Bibliometrix were used to analyse the data. From the results, most papers on African digital innovations emanated from a journal with a broader scope—Sustainability Journal (Switzerland). Most of the funding for digital innovation studies in agribusiness was sponsored by foreign donors outside the African Continent, with the Consortium of International Agricultural Research Centers in France sponsoring the most research. Based on the publication synthesis and the trend of publications, five themes, namely, digital innovations in the agricultural value chain, training and skills development through digital innovations, digital finance innovations in agribusiness, precision digital innovations: agribusiness survival, and drivers of digital innovation adoption in agribusiness were identified. From the results, digital agribusiness innovations in marketing, production, and finance have been profound in Africa, though they are skewed towards a few South, West, and North African countries. Meanwhile, the drivers and challenges of digital innovations in Africa have been mainly social, economic, political, and institutional factors. Given the results, it is recommended that, since most of the studies were primarily sponsored by foreign governments, thus betraying the commitment of the African continent's readiness to transform the agribusiness sector via innovation and technology, African Governments, first, and second, non-governmental organisations and other agricultural donors should prioritise the digitalisation of the agriculture sector by integrating them into economic development plans and making relevant resources available to all actors from upstream to downstream.

The aim of the article is to identify the relationship between the level of regulation of various segments of the FinTech industry and the level of development of this sector. To address this research problem, the paper analyses the scope of regulation in 14 segments of the FinTech sector, and based on that, develops the FinTech Regulation Index for the individual European Union countries. Then, the paper uses this index to examine if there is a relationship between the level of regulation and the level of FinTech development in the various European Union countries. The econometric analysis confirmed the initial hypothesis that there is a significant relationship between the level of FinTech sector regulation and the level of its development.

The overall degree of financial development of the State depends on innovative development of the financial sector. In this regard, it is important to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the characteristics, scopes and limits of the application of digital financial innovations both at the State level and at the global level, which determines the relevance of the research topic. The aim of the research is to develop an approach to assessment of the characteristics, scopes and limits of digital innovations in the financial sector and its approbation of the approach by the example of Russia. At the theoretical level, the method of literature analysis, abstraction and aggregation are used in the research. At the empirical level, methods of statistical, structural and coefficient analysis are applied. The results of the research in terms of the development of the theory of innovation in the financial sector are development of an approach to assessment of the characteristics and scope of digital innovation in the financial sector, to allow a comprehensive assessment of the development of financial innovation at the State level and comparison of the assessment results by country or with the world average values of the indicators proposed for assessment. The paper also proposes classifications of scopes and limits for the use of digital financial technologies, which allow for a qualitative analysis of the integrated development of financial innovations. Empirical research has allowed us to make conclusions about the accelerated development of the Russian financial technology market compared to the world average values based on the developed theoretical approach. At the same time, the problems of further development of financial innovations have been identified, namely, the low level of trust of the Russian population in small businesses in the field of financial technologies, limiting the inflow of foreign investment and narrowing the external market for the dissemination of Russian financial innovations in conditions of political instability. The following measures are proposed to solve these problems: improving the quality of education and improving the working conditions of specialists in the field of innovations, developing programs for concessional lending to small businesses in the field of financial technologies, and improving the financial literacy of the population as a consumer of innovative financial services.

Hospitality, which suffered a huge blow during the Covid-19 period and had to adapt its operation to pandemic measures, heads for its recovery. Innovation is one of the ways to get out of an unfavourable situation having in mind that health risks can represent a significant factor affecting participation in tourism. The paper specifies the perception of the necessity of digital innovations application as health protection factor and sustainable mean of hospitality sector developme nt. It shows how of tourism participant in domestic condition of Slovak republic perceive the need of their application to hospitality services. Through the questionnaire method it examined opinion of domestic visitors in hospitality and its direction towards the digitization of services in this sphere, and subsequently tested by Mann-Whitney and Kruskall-Wallis tests. The results show that Slovak tourists treat digital innovation in hospitality services as the ones, that are a necessa ry part of tourism services portfolio. Their specifics can also be defined in terms of health protection. They can act as an element of health protection by eliminating contact among individual tourism participants. At the same time, they also perceive them as a means that tends to keep the hospitality industry alive even in the post-pandemic period.

Digitalisation in cities offers new opportunities and challenges for city planners and managers to re-shape their roles and create public value through responsible innovation. However, there is a lack of understanding of the competency requirements to foster leadership capacity for digital innovation with social coherence and responsibility. Based on a socio-technical perspective, this paper presents a multi- and inter-disciplinary framework to identify and evaluate the competencies necessary for leading digital innovation in the built environment. The framework incorporates three dimensions: digital and technical, governance and management, and ethical and responsible innovation. A review of existing competency frameworks for digitalisation in the urban built environment is presented to identify competency gaps across the three dimensions. The results show that existing frameworks rarely strive for comprehensiveness and are limited in their scope to certain competencies along a single dimension. In addition, studies addressing the need for multi- and inter-disciplinary competencies across the three dimensions are lacking. The paper thus demonstrates that our three-pronged framework is a useful and much needed tool to identify competency requirements for local public, private and community stakeholders to steer place-based digital innovation and ensure public value creation.

Digitalization has acquired a total socio-economic nature, which means that digital innovations have had a large-scale effect in the economy: they play the role of basic, industry-forming, and developing innovations as the pace of product restock and business process improvement increases. The actual situation requires understanding the essence of digital innovations, their technological features and resource capabilities in achieving economic progress. The subject area of the study is the field of management in its general economic and applied context. The latter is considered from the standpoint of substantiating and making managerial decisions to ensure digital transformation. The information and analytical review carried out by the authors allows us to state that the theory of digital innovation is in the process of accumulating knowledge and developing scientific schools. In the works of foreign and Russian scientists, there is a clear convergence of ideas of digitalization and innovative development of the economy, the effect of which is substantiated by an assessment of the potential of open innovations and network forms of organizing innovative activities, creating innovative ecosystems that operate using information and communication technologies in their digital format. A digression into economic practice proves an equal interest in scientific substantiations, developments and solutions in the real and financial sectors of the economy, with appropriate institutional support from the state regulation system. The object of this study is digital innovation; the subject of the study is the essential characteristics of digital innovation, determining approaches and methods of their management. The essence of digital innovation, that is the innovation ensured by the use of digital information technologies, is revealed by the authors from the perspective of their refined concept of the digital economy as an economic structure, which presupposes the widespread formation of digital competencies at the level of economic systems and their implementation in justifying management decisions. The characteristic features of the digital economy are: data-centric approach to decision making; dynamic competitive landscape, customer-centricity, platform business models with an ecosystem perspective. In substantiating the essential characteristics of digital innovation, the authors proceed from an understanding of the rational nature of the modern organization of innovation activity. Within the framework of the article, the terminological apparatus was clarified by introducing the author’s interpretation of the categories “digital economy” and “digital innovation”; the relationship between them is identified and justified; the basic characteristics of digital innovations and their specific features are determined.

This article is part of the Research Topic ‘Health Systems Recovery in the Context of COVID-19 and Protracted Conflict’.The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the vulnerabilities and limitations of many health systems and underscored the need for strengthening health system resilience to make and sustain progress toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC), global health security and healthier populations in tandem. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Commonwealth countries have been practicing a combination of innovative integrated approaches and actions to build health systems resilience. This includes utilizing digital tools, improvements in all-hazard emergency risk management, developing multisectoral partnerships, strengthening surveillance and community engagement. These interventions have been instrumental in strengthening national COVID-19 responses and can contribute to the evidence-base for increasing country investment into health systems resilience, particularly as we look toward COVID-19 recovery. This paper gives perspectives of five Commonwealth countries and their overall responses to the pandemic, highlighting practical firsthand experiences in the field. The countries included in this paper are Guyana, Malawi, Rwanda, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania. Given the diversity within the Commonwealth both in terms of geographical location and state of development, this publication can serve as a useful reference for countries as they prepare their health systems to better absorb the shocks that may emerge in future emergencies.

This paper provides an improved understanding of the internationalisation speed of innovation in a digital context. It integrates virtual distance into the previous Cultural, Administrative, Geographic, and Economic (CAGE) distance framework. By tracking the penetration in 43 target countries of a unique sample of 102 mobile apps available on Apple's App Store, cultural and economic distances still hinder the penetration speed of digital innovation in a focal country. However, geographic and administrative ones no longer have a significant effect. More importantly, distance does not always act as a barrier, with high virtual spaces promoting international penetration. Therefore, digital innovation developers may overcome challenges presented by cross-national distances by resorting to the global user network effect.

Though the pandemic has created an imbalance and disrupted the economy in the food industry, it has had a positive impact on speeding the acceptance of the industry towards digital innovations (DI). The shift toward digitalization is leading the food industry to leverage innovations that can serve the dual purpose of safer and sustainable food operations. This review synthesizes the rapidly growing literature on digital technology used as the response to the emergence of food safety and sustainability issues during the COVID-19 pandemic. Opportunities to improve thirteen food safety management system components and three sustainability components including economics, environmental and social were identified. The review determined that blockchain and IoT have the most prominent role in improving food safety, especially the component of traceability and monitoring and inspection.

The article is aimed at researching the interpretations of the concept of «digitalization», formulating the authors’ own definition of the concept, analyzing tendencies in the development of digitalization, studying its impact on business and other sectors of the economy and determining perspective directions of digitalization in Ukraine. The article defines that stiff competition in the context of globalization, dynamic changes in the external environment, and the COVID-19 pandemic challenged all sectors of the economy, forcing them to look for new innovative ways to stay in the market. It is determined that only those areas of business that managed to quickly begin the transition to electronic systems were able to adapt to the new conditions of existence, which allowed them to keep on the market and even increase their profits. Digital technologies are becoming the trend of our time, and digitalization increasingly covers all spheres of life. The introduction of digital innovations allows companies to ensure stable, efficient future operations and market competitiveness. Based on the analysis of the definitions of different authors, the article proposes its own interpretation of the concept of «digitalization». The main advantages of digitalization are also considered and allocated. The research carried out by the authors allowed distinguish priority directions for the implementation of digitalization in Ukraine, namely: medicine, digital marketing, education, public services, and culture. The article explains what results in these areas have already been fulfilled in the direction of digitalization and proposes actions that should be implemented in the future. The development of an efficient system of digitalization of business and the State is a powerful lever of influence on the development of the economy of Ukraine. The carried out research indicates the objective need for further active digitalization of the priority directions identified in the article, which will facilitate the transparency of doing business in all sectors of the economy and public administration in Ukraine.

Recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI) may involve significant potential threats to personal data privacy, national security, and social and economic stability. AI-based solutions are often promoted as “intelligent” or “smart” because they are autonomous in optimizing various processes. Because they can modify their behavior without human supervision by analyzing data from the environment, AI-based systems may be more prone to malfunctions and malicious activities than conventional software systems. Moreover, due to existing regulatory gaps, development and operation of AI-based products are not yet subject to adequate risk management and administrative supervision. Resonating to recent reports about potential threats resulting from AI-based systems, this paper presents an outline of a prospective risk assessment for adaptive and autonomous products. This research resulted in extensive catalogs of possible damages, initiating events, and preventive policies that can be useful for risk managers involved in conducting risk assessment procedures for AI-based systems. The paper concludes with the analysis and discussion of changes in business, legal, and institutional environments required to ensure the public that AI-based solutions can be trusted, are transparent and safe, and can improve the quality of life.

The transport sector is a significant contributor to global emissions. In Australia, it is the third largest source of greenhouse gases and is responsible for around 17% of emissions with passenger cars accounting for around half of all transport emissions. Governments at all levels have identified a need for a reduction in transport carbon emissions to meet their net zero emissions targets. This research aims to help decision makers estimate the carbon footprint of transport networks within their jurisdictions and evaluate the impacts of emission-reduction interventions, through development of a simulation-based low carbon mobility assessment model. The model was developed based on a framework that integrates multiple mobility components including individual travel preferences, traffic simulation, and an assessment interface to create a seamless tool for the end-user. The feasibility of the assessment model was demonstrated in a case study for a local city council in Melbourne. In one of many scenarios reported in this paper, the model showed that maintaining current levels of emissions would require a 20% reduction in vehicle trips by 2030, and a much larger reduction would be required to reduce the levels of greenhouse gas emissions and achieve desired emissions reduction targets. The paper concludes with recommendations and future directions to extend the model’s capabilities and applications.

The research objective includes detailing of the essence and structural changes of the digital economy (DE) at the national level; an explanation of the features of digital innovations; the role substantiation of diffusion of innovations (DI) as a key driver for DE development. The research methodology is based on: structural, institutional, historical, comparative, functional analysis, formalization method. The need to achieve all-encompassing digitalization nature and the systematic use of digital technologies, as well as the transition to digital models of organization through the diffusion of technologies, is taken into account. The research results are the detailing of the essence and structural features of DE. DE is considered as a new type of economy, characterized by the widespread adoption of digital technologies, cyber-physical systems, intelligent solutions, network technologies. The DE nature is revealed from the position of several approaches: technological; structural; component-resource; functional. The DE features (network nature, a new type of entrepreneurship, a new class of specialists, new institutions, etc.) are highlighted, as well as the negative consequences of the transition to such an economy; overcoming of these negative consequences requires smart policy with a focus on productivity growth, structural changes and growth incentives. The DE structure, including parts of the Internet economy (e-Commerce, e-Health, e-Education, e-Banking, etc.) and new forms of providing various services, is characterized. The IT sector growth is indicated as the DE “core”, where new jobs, infrastructure, cost are created, and the technology business is developed. The structural proportions of DE are largely determined by technological trends (on-demand economy, sharing economy, Internet of Things, etc.). Digital platforms as new intermediary mechanisms, as well as the Big Data market, are one of the key structural components of DE. The subject and features of digital innovations are highlighted. On this basis, the DI role in the DE development is substantiated, taking into account the provision of all-encompassing digitalization nature, stimulation of innovations, ensuring the benefits and economic growth, as well as the creation of economies of scale, chain and cumulative effects. Practical recommendations on the intensification of DI processes in the context of DE building include: targeted government support that concerns the IT and other sectors; establishment of technology transfer and commercialization centers, technology platforms and technology leadership programs; quality improvement of education and training; infrastructure role expanding of universities; development of research, innovation, entrepreneurial networks, professional communities, industry associations. In this context, it is necessary to strengthen support for small and medium-sized innovative businesses that should become a provider of new technologies. It is advisable to create portals for oriented R&D and adoption of technologies; knowledge management platforms during technology transfer process; industry knowledge bases; portals for experts work activity management for project evaluation. Value/originality. The article details the essence and reveals the structural features of DE, describes the specifics of digital innovations, as well as presents DI as a key driver for the development of such an economy.

This article describes international experience in the area of setup and development of accelerators as the source of innovations, including innovations in the sphere of digital economy. This research also presents main characteristics of accelerators, their classification and main differences from business-incubators. It also includes analysis of main activity indicators of leading accelerators in the world, based on the data of Global Accelerator Network, as well as ranking of different types of accelerators. There is also analysis of the current situation in Belarus with accelerators, including main problems as well as recommendations on further development.

The article presents the results of research on the status and perspectives of introduction of digital innovations in the tourism and hospitality market of Kharkov region in the context of four analysis axes: innovation of corporate website, e-commerce, information-communication technologies in business management and customer relationship management. The publication is aimed at analyzing the current status of using digital innovations by enterprises in the tourism and hospitality sector of Kharkiv region, as well as defining the most promising digital technologies for the further development of this sector. The subject of the study are managerial and organizational-economic relations arising in the process of development of the regional tourism and hospitality market in the conditions of digitalization. The analysis of the regional market related to digital innovations in the tourism and hospitality sector, was carried out with the use of quantitative data provided by the regional Department of Statistics, along with the information obtained as a result of a questionnaire survey of 116 enterprises of the sector. Using of fuzzy measures and the Choquet integral, the article identifies the factors of innovation that most influence the competitiveness of business in the sphere of tourism and hospitality, as well as the extent of their interaction. It is grounded that digitalization is an important instrument to increase the innovativeness of the business in the tourism and hospitality sector. Among the types of digital technologies that have the greatest impact on the process of business efficiency improvement, the innovations related to the improvement of corporate site and e-commerce, in particular the introduction of fintech and the use of artificial intelligence, are determined. The results of this research can be used by both regional and local authorities, management of enterprises of the regional tourism and hospitality market in determining the target priorities, forming and implementing the strategy of digital transformation, development of regional programs to promote the development of internal tourism.

As digitalization increasingly gains attention in the agriculture sector, many African youths are seizing the opportunity provided by digital technologies to engage in agriculture. While prior studies have started examining the intricacies of digitalization in agriculture, they have paid less attention to its implications for fostering institutions and inter-organizational synergies that can support and sustain the businesses of youth enterprises engaging with Africa’s agriculture. Against this backdrop, we undertook a qualitative case study to shed light on the development of a community of practice comprising youth enterprises engaging in agriculture through digitalization. Thus, we studied Africa Goes Digital (AFGD), a consortium of young African enterprises that rely on digital technologies and solutions to provide services to farmers across the African continent. The results showed that: (1) the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA) played a pioneering role as a development agency in supporting enterprises with drones and training for agriculture, which led to the formation of AFGD; (2) two prevalent themes characterized the services offered by AFGD members; (3) AFGD brings members under one platform where they leverage WhatsApp for communication and knowledge sharing and Twitter to showcase success stories and form partnerships with each other to execute certain development projects with governments and development agencies; (4) the lack of regulations or the restrictive regulations on the use of drones are still problems that some members face, and the high costs of sensors and related drones are challenges for the members. Building on the results, we discuss the implications of digitalization for supporting African governments in meeting sustainability goals and conclude by describing the theoretical contribution of our study and promising future research directions.

In her study of ‘Surveillance Capitalism,’ Shoshana Zuboff cites Google’s parent firm Alphabet’s legal customer-purchase agreement for the parent firm’s Nest thermostats. These impose ‘oppressive privacy and security consequences’ requiring sensitive information to be shared through ‘Internet-of-Things’ (IoT) networks with other domestic and external devices, unnamed functionaries and various third parties. This is for data harvesting, analytics, processing, manipulation and transformation through digital re-sale to the same and other consumers in the form of unwanted, targeted advertising. The point of this identity ‘rendition’ is to massively augment corporate profits. It is but a short step from trapping the unwitting consumer in a ‘smart home’ to planning a similarly mediated ‘smart city’ aimed at further massively augmenting corporate profits. This is happening, as founders of digital media from Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon and Tesla either commission or become beneficiaries of ‘smart city’ planning. However, there is evidence that such imperiousness is increasingly countered by emerging democratic critique of these new ‘model villages’ or ‘company towns’.
