O presente trabalho objetiva analisar os impactos causados aos partidos políticos (e à própria democracia) a partir da proibição estipulada pela legislação brasileira de coligações nas eleições proporcionais, por meio da Emenda Constitucional 97/2017. Examinam-se, para tanto, algumas das questões mais significativas atinentes ao tema, notadamente: a relação entre democracia, representatividade e partidos; os sistemas majoritário e proporcional; e a tendência de enxugamento de legendas. Em termos metodológicos, vale-se, preponderantemente, de pesquisa bibliográfica. Na parte final do artigo, apoia-se, adicionalmente, em um levantamento quantitativo de dados providos pelo TSE, com a finalidade de apresentar um exemplo concreto de pleito. Antevê-se que, somada à cláusula de barreira, a proibição de coligações pode resultar na eliminação de legendas menores, comprometendo a lógica do sistema representativo e a própria garantia constitucional do pluripartidarismo e da representatividade. Os resultados demonstram que há risco de a redução de legendas não vingar, assim como de se estrangular a participação de partidos representativos de minorias, mantendo-se a presença de agremiações maiores, pouco comprometidas ideologicamente. Notadamente, conclui-se que a reforma introduzida pela emenda constitucional demanda aprofundamento se o intuito é investir eficazmente contra a reprodução de legendas descompromissadas com a representatividade.

Por intermédio do método dedutivo, corresponde à extração discursiva do conhecimento a partir de premissas gerais aplicáveis a hipóteses concretas, e a partir das técnicas de levantamento de bibliografias e legislações acerca da categoria analítica inerente à abrangência do tema proteção de dados, investiga-se e procura estabelecer reflexões acerca da eficácia da Lei 13.709/2018, fora dos limites do Estado, inclusive se sobrepondo as regras do Estado estrangeiro, de modo a implicar na violação do princípio da soberania. Estende-se como hipótese que, a aplicação da Lei 13.709/2018 fora dos limites do Estado, não desrespeita à soberania do Estado estrangeiro, mas redimensiona seus contornos, especialmente no que concerne aos direitos humanos fundamentais.

The adaptability and stability of different genotypes are importants to help recommend cultivars. To achieve this, several methods have been proposed and the use of these methodologies simultaneously seems to allow the extraction of more consistent information than the use of each methodology separately. Therefore, the present work aims to study the adaptability and stability of sugarcane genotypes in terms of tons of sugarcane per hectare (TCH) in four environments in Mato Grosso do Sul and identify the superior genotypes through criteria multi-information. The TCH data were collected in the 2018/2019 harvest, in third-cut crops, from the experimentation phase of the Sugarcane Improvement Program of the Interuniversity Network for the Development of the Sugarcane Sector. The design used was a block design with three replications in which six early maturing clones (G1, G2, G3, G4, G5 and G6) and two commercial varieties (G7 - RB855156 and G8 - RB966928) were evaluated in four environments (1 - Ivinhema, 2- Rio Brilhante, 3- Nova Andradina Fazenda “N.O.” and 4- Nova Andradina Fazenda “E”. The joint analysis of variance was obtained from the data. The adaptability and stability of the genotypes was evaluated using multi-information, which included 10 parameters, being: the general average, average potential in different environmental conditions, plasticity, measure of the relative contribution to the interaction, Annicchiarico recommendation index, percentage adaptability, stability percentage, J pattern of genotype response, champion pattern and centroid recommendation index. Genotypes G3, G4, G6, G7 and G8 showed high stability and specific adaptation to high yield environments, such as environments 1 and 3. Genotype G6 surpasses commercial genotypes in yield. Genotypes G1, G2 and G5 present high stability, specific adaptation to low yield environments such as 2 and 4.

Abstract Smart Transformer (ST)-based Meshed Hybrid AC/DC Microgrids (MHM) present advantages concerning the performance of conventional AC/DC microgrids (MG). Despite this, MHMs present challenges in managing and controlling electronic converters associated with the ST and Distributed Energy Resources (DER), a scenario that makes it complex to achieve optimal system performance. Additionally, the high penetration of DER would impact the voltage profile, reduce the reactive compensation, and increase the losses in the distribution lines at a high cost in operation. This work proposes an optimal power management computational model for the day-ahead optimal operation planning of ST-based MHM. The management algorithm delivers the optimal operating points of each of the converters of the MG so that it allows the control of active power on both the AC and DC sides; likewise, it will enable reactive power injection control according to the availability of the solar photovoltaic resource and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). According to the tests performed under different operation scenarios with varying degrees of penetration of Photovoltaic Generator (PVG), the benefits of implementing the ST as an energy router according to the operating set points by the optimization algorithm are evidenced. Integrating the ST in MHM and optimization algorithms is a suitable alternative for managing microgrids with high penetration of distributed energy resources. This allows for improving the voltage profile in the MHM, reducing losses in the lines and energy exchange costs with the distribution network.

Abstract Variable renewable energies are leading the energy transition and power system flexibility has become a global priority. Incorporating short-term assessment into long-term planning is essential to capture the operational characteristics of generation and address flexibility issues. This paper presents a novel model for generation and transmission expansion planning with economic dispatch. In the generation expansion planning, the capacity expansion is optimized. In the economic dispatch problem, power plant operation, hydropower generation, and line transmission power flow are optimized. The model is a mixed-integer linear programming problem solved in MATLAB using Gurobi toolbox. A model is proposed to optimize the reservoir of hydropower systems and run-of-river. A case study for supplying Brazilian demand in 2050 is presented. A scenario with greenhouse gas emission costs and no deficit is proposed. This study has shown that the current penalty cost for loss of load is not sufficient to avoid a deficit. It is possible to supply 2050 demand, without large reservoirs or deficits, with a 5.5% curtailment, using 13% of total storage capacity, however; peaking power plants are required.

Abstract Power distribution utilities effort to ensure the quality of energy to their consumers and the reliability of their power distribution system. It is necessary that maintenance activities are planned with the aim of maintaining or improving reliability indicators in supply to consumers. In this paper, a computational model based on integer nonlinear multiobjective programming is presented to improve the maintenance of equipment in the power distribution system. Since it is a reliability-centered approach, a probabilistic failure model is first used to obtain equipment reliability values at each time point through fuzzy inference. Three objective functions are optimized: i) minimizing maintenance cost, ii) minimizing failure frequency, and iii) maximizing equipment reliability. The optimization problem is also formed by three sets of constraints: i) individual and collective continuity indicators; ii) task execution time; and iii) maintenance limit for each type of equipment. Lichtenberg's algorithm is used to solve the model. A case study is performed for a feeder section consisting of twenty-eight distribution equipment. The results obtained using the Pareto constraints show scenarios that can help maintenance teams to make decisions and develop the preventive maintenance planning. Adding constraints on the duration and frequency of collective interruptions indicators improves the power quality of the distribution system; however, it requires an increase in investment by 36%.

Abstract Energy sources, like hydro and wind power, present uncertain nature, characteristic that affects the electric power systems operation planning. Such factors require using methodologies capable to handle these uncertainties in interconnected hydro-thermal-wind power systems operation. This work proposes a computational model for the day-ahead unit commitment problem for interconnected hydro-thermal-wind power systems, considering the uncertainties related to wind power, water inflow, and energy demand, employing the Robust Optimization (RO). The optimization model consists in a three-level mixed integer linear programming problem, which is resolved using a two-stage decomposition approach, solved using the column-and-constraint generation algorithm. The model is validated using the 30 nodes IEEE and the 33 nodes Brazilian test system. The model proposed proved to have an operating cost proportional to the level of uncertainty and the methodology employed provides a preventive view of what may occur during the hydro-thermal-wind systems operation, allowing the central system operator to take certain actions in order to ensure reliable operating conditions. In addition, the model allowed the identification of important aspects related to computational costs, such as the verification that constraints that couple the problem in time and space significantly impact the simulation times of the problem.

Electric mobility is a sustainable alternative for mitigating carbon emissions by replacing the conventional fleet. However, the low availability of data from charging stations makes planning energy systems for the integration of electric vehicles (EVs) difficult. Given this, this work focuses on developing an adaptive computational tool for charging simulation, considering many EVs and mobility patterns. Technical specifications data from many EVs are considered for charging simulation, such as battery capacity, driving range, charging time, charging standard for each EV, and mobility patterns. Different simulations of charging many EVs and analyses of weekly charging load profiles are carried out, portraying the characteristics of the different load profiles and the challenges that system planners expect. The research results denote the importance of considering different manufacturers and models of EVs in the composition of the aggregate charging load profile and mobility patterns of the region. The developed model can be adapted to any system, expanded with new EVs, and scaled to many EVs, supporting different research areas.

Smart Transformer (ST)-based Meshed Hybrid AC/DC Microgrids (MHMs) present a promising solution to enhance the efficiency of conventional microgrids (MGs) and facilitate higher integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DERs), simultaneously managing active and reactive power dispatch. However, MHMs face challenges in resource management under uncertainty and control of electronic converters linked to the ST and DERs, complicating the pursuit of optimal system performance. This paper introduces a Data-Driven Distributionally Robust Optimization (DDDRO) approach for day-ahead operation planning in ST-based MHMs, focusing on minimizing network losses, voltage deviations, and operational costs by optimizing the reactive power dispatch of DERs. The approach accounts for uncertainties in photovoltaic generator (PVG) output and demand. The Column-and-Constraint Generation (C&CG) algorithm and the Duality-Free Decomposition (DFD) method are employed. The initial mixed-integer non-linear planning problem is also reformulated into a mixed-integer (MI) Second-Order Cone Programming (SOCP) problem using second-order cone relaxation and a positive octagonal constraint method. Simulation results on a connected MHM system validate the model’s efficacy and performance. The study also highlights the advantages of the meshed MG structure and the positive impact of integrating the ST into MHMs, leveraging the multi-stage converter’s flexibility for optimal energy management under uncertain conditions.

Microgrids are considered an adequate alternative to overcome the challenges involving integrating distributed energy resources in distribution systems to contribute to the ‘Three D’ trend in the electricity sector, i.e., decentralize, decarbonize, and digitize electricity. This paper reviews the most relevant works to establish a baseline for advancing and developing smart transformer-based meshed hybrid microgrids and energy management systems. First, the structure of the solid-state transformers as smart transformers and their potential application as energy routers in a microgrid is discussed. Then, the principle of conformation of meshed hybrid microgrids based on a smart transformer and the topologies reported in the literature are reviewed. Finally, power management systems integrated into smart transformers-based meshed hybrid microgrids are studied. According to the findings and conclusions, smart transformers-based meshed hybrid microgrids operated by an optimal energy management system under uncertainty are a potentially feasible technological alternative for adequately penetrating distributed energy resources into local distribution systems.

Abstract In recent years, cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) is used for surface disinfection. However, little is known about its ability to improve biocompatibility of metallic surfaces when compared to thermal plasma methods. In this context, the study aimed to evaluate the response of human endothelial cells (Ea.hy926) on titanium surfaces treated by non-thermal plasma method and thermal plasma method under nitriding atmosphere. The wettability was characterized by the sessile drop method, the topography and roughness were evaluated by atomic force microscopy (AFM), and the microstructure by grazing angle X-ray diffraction (GIXRD). Endothelial cells were cultured and evaluated for morphology by scanning electron microscopy and viability by an MTT (3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5 diphenyl tetrazolium bromide) assay. The smart transformer (ST) is a multiport and multi-stage converter that allows for the formation of meshed hybrid microgrids (MHMs) by enabling AC-DC ports in medium and low voltage. This type of microgrid has advantages over the performance of conventional hybrid AC-DC microgrids (HMGs); however, the number of degrees of freedom of the ST increases the complexity of the energy management systems (EMSs), which require adequate and accurate modeling of the power flow of the converters and the MG to find the feasible solution of optimal power flow (OPF) problems in the MHM. An ST’s equivalent power flow model is proposed for formulating the MHM OPF problem and developing low-frequency equivalent models integrated with a decoupled hierarchical control architecture under a real-time simulation approach to the ST-based MHM. A simulation model of the MHM in the Simulink® environment of Matlab® 9.12 is developed and implemented under a digital real-time simulation (DRTS) approach on the OPAL-RT® platform. This model allows for determining the accuracy of the developed equivalent models, both low-frequency and power flow, and determining the MHM performance based on optimal day-ahead scheduling. Simulation test results demonstrated the ST equivalent model’s accuracy and the MHM’s accuracy for OPF problems with an optimal day-ahead scheduling horizon based on the model-in-the-loop (MIL) and DRTS approach.

Abstract The insertion of new distributed energy resources, such as distributed generation (DG), energy storage systems (ESS), demand response (DR), and microgrids (MG), is emerging, bringing new challenges to the current distribution network. In this regard, the active distribution networks (I) with multi-microgrids concept appears. The present paper proposes a hierarchical (master-slave problem) computational model to achieve optimal coordinated operation of multi-microgrids connected to an I. Day-ahead operation planning of an I was formulated as a multiperiod non-linear optimal power flow model, resulting in a non-linear optimization problem, additionally, the day-ahead operation planning of MGs was formulated as a multiperiod linearized optimal power flow resulting in a mixed-integer linear optimization problem. Numerical results on four different test-system microgrids connected to a 359-nodes ADNs test-system belonging to a Brazilian distribution company show the effectiveness of the proposed model and solution strategy. Three cases have been tested: with a maximum load-shedding restriction, without this restriction, and considering insertion of DG. Besides, the hierarchical model can evaluate how much losses and load shedding take effect without integrated operation and expansion planning of emerging distributed networks. This study showed the importance of analyzing the systemic impact of integrating multi-MGs and I synergistic operation interactions, resulting in improvements in the voltage quality levels, operation costs, and power losses. The results showed that, including DG in the system, the costs were reduced by 13,48% compared to the case base.

Local drug delivery systems used in dental implants need to have uniform pore size distribution, adequate wettability, chemical composition, and biocompatibility. In the present work, titanium was treated by pulsed plasma electrolytic oxidation (PPEO), using 0.025 M sodium dihydrogen phosphate and 0.25 M calcium acetate as electrolytes, aiming at use in drug delivery systems. Pulse with Ton/Toff (width pulse/repetition time) of 50 μs/100 μs or 100 μs/50 μs, duty cycle 0,33, and 0.67, respectively, were used. After treatment, Ca/P ratio, wettability, crystalline phase, pore size and distribution were determined. The average pore size ranged from 1.5 μm to 2.3 μm according to the increase of energy supplied to the system. Pore distributions with lower dispersion were verified for the Ton/Toff condition of 50 μs /100 μs, using a current density of 30 mA/dm2. On the other hand, the 100 μs/50 μs conditions produce larger pores, but with greater dispersion. In general, conditions with lower currents (30 mA/dm2 and 38 mA/dm2) and Ton/Toff ratio = 50/100 were the most appropriate for use in drug delivery systems, due to their size and distribution of uniform pores, greater hydrophilicity, and Ca/P ratio close to desirable (1.67) was obtained.

Valendo-se de referenciais provenientes da pragmática linguística e dos princípios da plenitude da defesa e da soberania dos veredictos, os quais permeiam o caráter democrático do tribunal do júri, defende-se a importância do discurso racional, em procedimento aberto, público e transparente, como forma de produzir decisões fundamentadas argumentativamente, que dissipem o arbítrio e o isolacionismo subjetivista. Defende-se, para isso, a comunicabilidade dos jurados, seja a partir de projeto de lei, seja, sobretudo, com os novos recursos trazidos pela filosofia da linguagem. Intenta-se, nesse sentido, tematizar uma incursão jusfilosófica que garanta o aprofundamento da tese ora defendida, interpelando a possibilidade de um processo participativo capaz de alterar o paradigma do livre convencimento subjetivo por um procedimento linguístico que abone decisões públicas justificadas discursivamente.

Abstract The benefits of complementarity between renewable energy sources have been presented as having a positive impact, but it has been neglected in generation expansion planning studies. In this paper the complementarity between renewable energy sources and regions of Brazil is characterized and the correlation coefficients are analyzed. A methodology is also proposed to optimize the complementarity between the sources, reducing the energy storage requirements. The methodology is applied to the Brazilian case to meet the projected demand for 2050 with a 100% renewable system and the complementarity is analyzed. The characterization of the data allowed us to propose five solar regions, four wind regions, three hydro regions and a region to represent the biomass. It was possible to find complementarity (negative correlation) of: 0.97 between hydro regions; 0.86 between wind and hydro regions and; 0.96 between biomass and hydro. The proposed methodology allowed us to know which regions and their respective technologies best benefit the electrical system, being the North for solar and the Northeast for wind. Finally, it was possible to reduce the demand for water storage with sources and regions that complement the seasonal hydro drought period.

Abstract Power distribution systems have become more complex in recent years due to the integration of new technologies. Motivated by these challenges, this paper describes a model to solve the multi‐period expansion planning problem of active distribution systems, considering uncertainty, reliability, distributed generation, self‐healing, reactive power support, switches, and energy storage devices. The objective is to determine the best installation times and locations of new components, minimizing the total cost, and ensuring desired reliability levels. The approach consists of a three‐level decomposition. The first level identifies expansion proposals, the second level finds the worst‐case scenario using adaptive robust optimization, and the third level performs a Monte Carlo Simulation to compute reliability indexes. The main contributions are the introduction of a novel reliability sensitivity matrix to improve computational performance and the representation of the hours of the day inside the expansion planning formulation. The proposed method is illustrated using the IEEE 123‐bus test system. The analyses show high computational efficiency as compared with similar works. The impacts on the number of expansion components placed in the system and on the total cost are presented and discussed using cases varying the uncertainty budget and not considering some of these components.

Abstract The optimization of microgrids present challenges such as managing distributed energy resources (DERs) and the high reliance on intermittent generation such as PV and wind turbines, which present an aleatory behavior. The most popular techniques to deal with the uncertainties are stochastic optimization, which comes with a high computational burden, and adaptive robust optimization (ARO), which is often criticized for the conservativeness of its solutions. In response to these drawbacks, this work proposes a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model using a data-driven robust optimization approach (DDRO) solved by a two-stage decomposition using the column-and-constraint generation algorithm (C&CG). The DDRO model uses historic data to create the bounds of its uncertainty set, eliminating the conservativeness created by the arbitrary definition of the uncertainty set that is seen in ARO while maintaining a low computational burden. The DDRO model applied was not previously utilized in MGs, only in bulk power systems. A benchmark MG system was simulated for a 24-hour period without uncertainties, with uncertainties using ARO (15% uncertainty budget) and with uncertainties and DDRO. The operational costs without uncertainty were $124,600,60, while the ARO approach rose those costs by 32.5% ($ 165,137.18). Finally, the DDRO approach managed to keep the costs in $ 126,934.54, a mere 1.8% increase from the base case without uncertainty. All simulations were performed in less than 1 minute. The results confirm a) the advantages of bounding the uncertainty set with historical data instead of an arbitrary definition of bounds and b) the fast-converging times of DDRO.

Abstract The behaviour of ions at solid–liquid interfaces underpins countless phenomena, from the conduction of nervous impulses to charge transfer in solar cells. In most cases, ions do not operate as isolated entities, but in conjunction with neighbouring ions and the surrounding solution. In aqueous solutions, recent studies suggest the existence of group dynamics through water-mediated clusters but results allowing direct tracking of ionic domains with atomic precision are scarce. Here, we use high-speed atomic force microscopy to track the evolution of Rb+, K+, Na+ and Ca2+ nano-domains containing 20 to 120 ions adsorbed at the surface of mica in aqueous solution. The interface is exposed to a shear flow able to influence the lateral motion of single ions and clusters. The results show that, when in groups, metal ions tend to move with a relatively slow dynamics, as can be expected from a correlated group motion, with an average residence timescale of ~ 1–2 s for individual ions at a given atomic site. The average group velocity of the clusters depends on the ions’ charge density and can be explained by the ion’s hydration state. The lateral shear flow of the fluid is insufficient to desorb ions, but indirectly influences the diffusion dynamics by acting on ions in close vicinity to the surface. The results provide insights into the dynamics of ion clusters when adsorbed onto an immersed solid under shear flow.

In the plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process, microdischarges are produced at the titanium surface immersed in an appropriate electrolyte by applying a voltage higher than dielectric breakdown of the oxide film. During this discharging stage, lasting between 30 and 300 μs, many species are transferred from electrolytic to surface producing the coatings. In the present work, pulses of electric current with duration of 50 μs and 100 μs were used in order to interrupt the microdischarges and, thus, control the PEO process. The effect of pulse duration, using different current densities and duty cycles, was investigated by the changes in energy consumption, in addition to the topographical, microstructural and chemical properties of the surface, in order to meet the requirements of a hypothetical surface for drug delivery from titanium implants. It was shown that surfaces treated with pulse duration of 50 μs had uniform pores and smaller mean diameters, better anatase/rutile and calcium/phosphorus ratios than those treated with pulses of 100 μs. Our results reveal that using a 50 μs current pulse, the process has lower energy consumption and more suitable properties for use in titanium implants with controlled drug delivery.

Abstract: Although nonlinear Alternating Current (AC) Optimal Power Flow (OPF) may provide more accurate results compared to linearized OPF models, many ACOPF problems are complex and may require high, sometimes infeasible, computational time. The linear Direct Current OPF (DCOPF) has been widely used in power system analysis; however, it has limitations regarding reactive power analysis, and it may cause significant error in distribution networks with a high R/X ratio of feeders. Moreover, most of the existing formulations for the linear ACOPF do not consider mutual impedance for the lines and simplify the network as a single-phase system, which does not significantly represent unbalanced loads. This paper proposes a novel linear AC three-phase OPF formulation for unbalanced ZIP loads using current injection and considering delta and wye loads. The formulation is extended to include shunt capacitors, voltage regulators, and mutual impedance. The proposed methodology is illustrated using the IEEE 123-bus test system in case studies including/not-including voltage regulators, distributed generation, high R/X ratio, and mutual impedance. The results are very accurate compared with a nonlinear three-phase ACOPF model. The high computational performance and the accuracy of the proposed model considering distributed generation and high R/X ratio show its effectiveness in active distribution networks.

Cutting tools, such as machining inserts, which in addition to having a complex geometry need to handle different demands on more than one face during their application, stimulate investigation for new coating techniques. Even though many hard film deposition techniques are well accepted or even established among researchers and industries, these processes still need to meet a limitation that requires the repositioning of the sample for new treatments in order to cover all of its surfaces. This paper proposes a new methodology for coating deposition on complex geometry pieces, through a structure for three-dimensional plasma treatment, using a Rotary Cathodic Cage Plasma Nitriding (RCCPN). TiN films were deposited on cemented carbide inserts applied in machining processes using the RCCPN technique. The plasma parameters were kept constant and deposition time was the only variable input. The deposited films were characterized by SEM, EDS, XRD, and Vickers microhardness. It was observed that the RCCPN technique was useful in producing a uniform TiN layer in all insert surfaces, with a thickness proportional to deposition time.

Two surface modification techniques, the glow discharge plasma nitriding (GDPN) and the cathodic cage plasma nitriding (CCPN), were compared regarding the mechanical and tribological behavior of layers produced on AISI 316 stainless-steel surfaces. The analyses were carried out at the micro/nanoscale using nanoindentation and nanoscratch tests. The nitriding temperature (°C) and time (h) parameters were 350/6, 400/6, and 450/6. Morphology, structure, and microstructure were evaluated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron and optical interferometry microscopies, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. GDPN results in stratified modified surfaces, solidly integrated with the substrate, with a temperature-dependent composition comprising nitrides (γ’-Fe4N, ε-Fe2+xN, CrN) and N-solid solution (γN phase). The latter prevails for the low treatment temperatures. Hardness increases from ~2.5 GPa (bare surface) to ~15.5 GPa (450 °C). The scratch resistance of the GDPN-modified surfaces presents a strong correlation with the layer composition and thickness, with the result that the 400 °C condition exhibits the highest standards against microwear. In contrast, CCPN results in well-defined dual-layers for any of the temperatures. A top 0.3–0.8 µm-thick nitride film (most ε-phase), brittle and easily removable under scratch with loads as low as 63 mN, covers a γN-rich case with hardness of 10 GPa. The thickness of the underneath CCPN layer produced at 450 °C is similar to that from GDPN at 400 °C (3 µm); on the other hand, the average roughness is much lower, comparable to the reference surface (Ra ~10 nm), while the layer formation involves no chromium depletion. Moreover, edge effects are absent across the entire sample´s surface. In conclusion, among the studied conditions, the GDPN 400 °C disclosed the best tribo-mechanical performance, whereas CCPN resulted in superior surface finishing for application purposes.

Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) is an environmentally friendly anodizing technique that produces ceramic coatings using high voltage discharges. To the present work this technique was applied to treat aluminum surfaces using a pulsed current supply and sodium silicate electrolyte. The effect of the duty cycle and treatment time on the morphology, phase composition and tribo-mechanical properties of the formed layer was investigated. The current density was maintained at 12 A/dm2, with two different duty cycles, 30% and 50%, for total period of 100 μs. For each duty cycle two different treatment times (2 min and 12 min) was used. During each treatment, the voltage was monitored to determine the start of the rupture of the passive oxide layer. It was demonstrated that the increase in the duty cycle from 30% to 50% influenced the thickness and porosity of the film, verified by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. Phase γ-Al2O3 was predominant on the surface of the samples treated by PEO, although occurrence of mullite and α-Al2O3 were also observed. There was an inversion in the intensities of the diffraction peaks Al (200) and Al (111) after the formation of the oxide phase, suggesting a preferential oxidation in the Al (111) direction. The PEO process allows tuning of the hardness, yield strength and wear resistance by controlling film thickness, porosity and phases present. Abstract The electrical system is becoming more robust with the insertion of distributed energy resources (DERs) and the need for energy autonomy by consumers, given that the current scenario is a growth in demand for electric energy. This paper aims to apply a computational model capable of determining the optimal hourly allocation of controllable loads in residence, as well as studying the optimal dispatch of residential microgrids considering management on the demand side. In addition, this paper presents an economic feasibility analysis of residential microgrids considering distributed generation from wind and solar sources, distributed storage, electric vehicles, and residential controllable loads. Thus, it was possible to conclude that in residence, the insertion of distributed energy generation and storage elements can present a significant reduction in electric energy costs, which can be even greater if these elements are associated with optimized controllable load management.

Distribution networks have undergone a series of changes, with the insertion of distributed energy resources, such as distributed generation, energy storage systems, and demand response, allowing the consumers to produce energy and have an active role in distribution systems. Thus, it is possible to form microgrids. From the active grid’s point of view, it is necessary to plan the operation considering the distributed resources and the microgrids connected to it, aiming to ensure the maintenance of grid economy and operational safety. So, this paper presents the proposition of a hierarchical model for planning the daily operation of active distribution grids with microgrids. In this case, the entire grid operation is optimized considering the results from the microgrid optimization itself. If none of the technical constraints, for example voltage levels, are reached, the grid is optimized, however, if there are some violations in the constraints feedback is sent to the internal microgrid optimization to be run again. Several scenarios are evaluated to verify the iteration among the controls in a coordinated way allowing the optimization of the operation of microgrids, as well as of the distribution network. A coordinated and hierarchical operation of active distribution networks with microgrids, specifically when they have distributed energy resources allocated and operated in an optimized way, results in a reduction in operating costs, losses, and greater flexibility and security of the whole system.

Abstract Up to now, plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) has been either produced direct current or ultra-low frequency (< 1 kHz) pulsed discharge using high concentration alkaline-silicate electrolytic (Na2SiO3 > 8 g.L-1 with presence of KOH). In order to contribute to these studies, the effect of current pulse width and time duration was investigated using diluted silicate electrolytic (Na2SiO3 2 g.L-1) and high pulse frequencies (> 1 kHz). The PEO process was performed on pure aluminum to try to explain how the phases composing the coatings are formed and distributed over the treatment time. For this, was made in situ monitoring using optical emission spectroscopy (OES) coupled with CCD camera. The crystalline phases evolution in the sample surface was investigated using grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXRD). Regarding the evolution of ceramic phases, it is possible to verify that, internally, the predominant phase is rhombohedral α-Al2O3 but, superficially, the predominant phase is cubic γ-Al2O3. It was verified the presence of Si on the borders of the pores or in proximity to cracks, especially in the treatments with higher pulse width. SEM analysis shows a reduction of the superficial porosity and an increase in coating thickness with pulse width and treatment time.

O presente estudo teve como objetivo de identificar os aspectos motivacionais que promovem a adesão, a permanência e as barreiras percebidas de mulheres à prática do futebol sete amador. A amostra foi composta por dezessete mulheres de um grupo de jovens de um município da região oeste do Rio Grande do Sul. Como instrumento de recolha dos dados utilizou-se de um questionário sobre a caracterização sociodemográfica (ABEP, 2016), Inventário de Motivação à Pratica Regular de Atividade Física e Esportiva, desenvolvido e validado por Balbinotti (2010) e questionário sobre as motivações para adesão e barreiras percebidas. Os dados foram analisados através da estatística descritiva e pela análise de conteúdo (BARDIN, 2011). Os resultados demonstraram que as atletas encontram distribuídas em cinco extratos econômicos (A, B1, B2, C1 e C2) e tinham como aspecto motivacional predominante, para a prática do futebol, a dimensão prazer, seguida do controle de stress. A principal influência para adesão ao futebol foi a Educação Física escolar e as barreiras para a prática do futebol feminino foram poucas evidências, restringindo-se a espaço físico, situação financeira, jornada dupla de trabalho e preconceitos relativos ao machismo cultural. Conclui-se que as atletas de futebol feminino se motivam principalmente pelo prazer individual de cada componente, onde o controle de stress e a sociabilidade tem grande influência na participação dessas meninas no esporte e que o apoio da família e amigos é muito importante para o grupo e esse torna-se incentivo diário na permanência no meio futebolístico. ABSTRACT Accession, permanence and barriers perceived in the practice of women's football The present study aims to identify the motivational aspects that promote the adhesion, permanence, and the obstacles noticed by women in the practice of amateur seven-a-side football. The sample consisted in seventeen women of a youth group from a municipality on the western region of Rio Grande do Sul. As a data collection instrument, a questionnaire about the sociodemographic characterization (ABEP, 2016), “Motivation Inventory of Regular Practice of Physical and Sports Activity”, developed and validated by Balbinotti (2010), and questionnaire about motivations for adhesion and perceived obstacles, were used. Data were analyzed through the descriptive statistic and content analysis (BARDIN, 2011). The results showed that the athletes are distributed in five economic extracts (A, B1, B2, C1 and C2) and had as predominant motivational aspect to the soccer practice, the pleasure dimension, followed by the stress control. The main influence on the adhesion to the soccer was the Scholar Physical Education and the obstacles to the practice of women’s soccer were little evidences, restricted to physical space, financial situation, double shift and prejudices related to cultural machismo. It’s concluded that the women’s soccer athletes are mainly motivated by the individual pleasure of each member, where the stress control and sociability have a great influence on the participation of these girls in the sport and that the family and friends’ support is very important for the group and becomes daily incentive to their permanence in the soccer world.

High performance solar collectors are those with high selectivity surfaces, high solar radiation absorption and that do not thermally reemit to the external environment. Strategies to enhance this performance might involve surface porosity modification. In this work, a plasma treatment technique called plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) has been tested to produce porosity on aluminium surfaces in a controlled manner. The porosity control was made by varying the intensity, frequency and duty cycle of the applied voltage pulses. The aluminium sample was placed in a solution of 1 g/L Na2SiO3. Voltage of 500 V and current density of 0.17 A cm2 was applied between electrodes. Three duty cycles were used: 33.33%, 50.00% and 67.77%. After treatment, the size, number and distribution of pores were evaluated. These parameters were correlated with both surface reflectance and optical absorbance. It was possible to control the porosity by controlling the electrical parameters of the process. While the mean pore size was directly related to the duty cycle, the inverse occurred for the number of pores. Surface treated with duty cycle of 33.33% presented higher values of absorption for all wavelength range.

Plasma technology is a fast, cost-effective, and pollution-free method that can be used in place of conventional methods to overcome seed dormancy. The goal of the present study was to determine the effect of different application times of atmospheric plasma on soaking and germination of Hybanthus calceolaria seeds in order to accelerate these processes. Helium plasma jet produced by dielectric barrier discharge was used to treat H. calceolaria seeds with applications of 1, 5, and 10 minutes. The treated seeds were characterized considering their weight variation during soaking, changes in electrical conductivity, and pH. It was found that germination depended on the plasma application time. The treatment of H. calceolaria seeds with atmospheric plasma for 1 minute provided 3.5 times greater germination in comparison to untreated seeds. Atmospheric plasma technology obtained by dielectric barrier discharge had potential of being used as a germination accelerant in H. calceolaria seeds. The treatment of H. calceolaria seeds using atmospheric plasma for 1 minute favored germination.

Titanium oxides such as rutile and anatase, are materials that stand out for exhibiting properties that act in biomedical and photocatalytic applications, among others. It is extreme importance to idealize new techniques that produce such compounds, being indispensable the improvement of characterizations for these materials. For this purpose, titanium comercially pure (CP) grade II cylindrical samples were oxidized ionically using titanium cage electric shields, oxidized at 350 ° C in 3 and 8 hours. Through Grazing Incidence X-ray Diffraction (GIXRD) analysis, was observed on the surface of the treated samples the formation of a TiO2 film with the anatase, rutile and brookite phases, the latter phase cited being difficult to produce in conventional thermochemical treatments. All samples treated showed a significant increase in wettability using distilled water. The higer value was for the sample with a 8 hours treatment time, in which this condition presented phases with greater intensity in the analysis of GIXRD

Electrical discharges in liquids are currently used to synthesize nanoparticles. The plasma-liquid interaction is complex, where parameters such as electric field, ion charges and other species present are important. In order to understand the mechanism of crystallization, mother liquor (saturated solution of NaCl, MgCl2 and KCl) was used to study the effectiveness and selectivity of the crystallization caused by the application of plasma. Discharge was applied with the solution at room temperature or during cooling. X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and chemical analysis was used to evaluate the structure and composition effects on crystal structure and composition. It was observed that the discharge induces selectively crystallization, and when compared to crystals obtained conventionally by cooling, were smaller and more uniform. We therefore confirm that plasma in liquid can also be used to selectively crystallize materials in atmospheric pressure, where the sizes of the crystals must be dependent on the parameters used.

Objectives. Recent studies have suggested that vitamin K may exert significant effects on the central nervous system. The present study investigates the relationship between vitamin K plasmatic levels and cognitive functions in elderly patients on oral anticoagulant therapy (OAT). Design. At the Thrombosis Centre of Haematology, “Sapienza” University of Rome, 85 patients on OAT, aged between 75 and 92, were randomly enrolled in the study. Patients were on OAT with vitamin K antagonists (VKAs). Vitamin K1 concentrations were determined using standardized High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). Cognitive functions were assessed using the Milan Overall Dementia Assessment (MODA). Results. MODA scores are positively correlated to vitamin K1 concentration. Patients with vitamin K1 below 0.100 μg/L and between 0.100 and 0.400 μg/L showed a mean MODA score of 79 ± 5 and 82 ± 3, respectively. Patients with vitamin K1 above 0.400 μg/L had a significantly greater MODA score (89 ± 1). After binning the data into bicentiles, MODA scores are shown to be linearly dependent on vitamin K1 concentrations (p10 years) does not affect MODA scores. Education seems to exert a greater role on the cognitive status in comparison with aging. Conclusions. The study shows a positive association between vitamin K1 concentration and cognitive status in elderly patients (≥75 years) on OAT. The relationship between vitamin K1 concentration and MODA scores is described by a linear model. Cognitive status is not influenced by the duration of OAT but by the years of education.

Este artigo tem por intuito discutir a ressignificação do conceito de liberdade à luz da teoria comunicativa de Jürgen Habermas. O problema enfrentado consiste em que a liberdade, enquanto reflexo do paradigma liberal, não mais atende às necessidades das sociedades contemporâneas, e enquanto conceito reconstruído pelo republicanismo, não dá conta de garantir a proteção e a autonomia dos sujeitos individuais. Lança-se mão, pois, da hipótese de que a consolidação de um entendimento comunicativo da liberdade, como feito por Habermas, é a única capaz de resguardar a moral, a justiça e a independência individual. Pretende-se demonstrar o caráter intersubjetivo da liberdade, tomando-a como elemento central da emancipação dos indivíduos pela razão comunicativa. Para isso será elaborado um resgate filosófico dos conceitos de liberdade dentro da dualidade histórica que vem sendo tomada entre liberais e republicanos, a partir das visões de Benjamin Constant, Isaiah Berlin e Philip Pettit. Ao final, com o auxílio de Flávio Siebeneichler, objetiva-se demonstrar que a racionalidade discursiva, única de potencial emancipatório, encontra na liberdade comunicativa de Habermas o elemento chave para o seu funcionamento. Quanto à metodologia, a pesquisa se caracteriza como bibliográfica e exploratória, uma vez que pretende fazer uma discussão, a partir de obras já publicadas, para melhor compreensão do tema.

Abstract Electricity is undoubtedly one of the most important resources in the modern world. As the demand for electric energy increases, conventional resources that are transformed into electric energy are being exhausted, generating a need to search for alternative sources, resulting in a significant increase in energy costs. This study presents an integrated project of an intelligent microgrid and energy management aimed at reducing energy costs. At the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), electricity represents an annual cost of over BRL 13 million, which is the third largest operating expense of the university. In addition, the public education budget in Brazil has been decreased in recent years. Therefore, this study was conducted within the scope of UFPR and aimed to analyze three alternatives to reduce electric energy costs: i) demand management through an analysis of energy bills, ii) migration to the free energy market, and iii) the development of an in-house photovoltaic generation facility. A computational tool to optimize the contracted demand and simulate the annual savings with the free market and distributed generation projects was developed using Microsoft Excel. Payback, the net present value, and the internal rate of return were calculated. Finally, the economic viability of all alternatives was proven, with demand management demonstrating an economic potential of greater than BRL 500,000 per year, use of the free market saving more than BRL 300,000, and the developed in-house photovoltaic generation system achieving an economic impact of more than BRL 600,000 per year.

The research of the interaction between bacteria-surface has great importance for titanium biomedical applications once microorganisms offer risks because promoting implant loss. Therefore, study bacterial adhesion and colonization on titanium is interesting because are principal factors infections pathogeny on biomaterials. In this study, commercial grade II titanium was submitted to nitriding treatment to plasma at 2.2 mbar, using gas mixtures of 80% hydrogen (H2) and 20% nitrogen (N2) during 1 hour and 3 hour. The surfaces were physically and chemically characterized. In order to evaluate bacterial response, the surfaces were exposed to Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The titanium surface modified in nitriding plasma, although exposes a higher roughness as compared with untreated samples, exhibited lower bacterial growth. The nitrided sample for 3 hour exhibited the higher amount of TiN phase and the higher concentration of atomic nitrogen on surface and lower bacterial adhered count. These results were confirmed by scanning electron microscopy. Based on these results can be said to the thermochemical treatment of plasma nitriding on titanium samples results a significant reduction of adherence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It was found that the Ti surface nitrided offers significant reduction of bacterial adherence which prevent biofilm formation and offersing lower risk of infection and implant remotion.

This research used the "cathodic cage (CC)" technique for TiO2 film deposition on duplex stainless steel substrate. This technique uses a multiple hollow cathode effect. Duplex stainless steel substrates were treated at temperatures of 300°C, 350°C and 400°C, giving a temperature value ratio (Ts/Tm) of 0.27 to 0.31 (Ts being the substrate temperature and Tm the melting temperature of the deposited material). Treatment times of 1, 2 and 4 hours were administered and polycrystalline TiO2 films were obtained. The films were analyzed by optical microscopy (OM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). During analysis, the formation of uniform films and the possibility of controlling the TiO2 phase were observed. It was also shown that with longer treatment times and higher temperatures the rutile phase predominates. For treatment times of 4 hours at all temperatures, the rutile structure was present. With treatment times of less than 4 hours, anatase was present. In addition, results showed that this simple, low cost technique can be an alternative method for depositions of TiO2 films, with the advantage of high levels of control over porosity, thickness and phase composition (anatase and rutile).

A 12.4 kDa laminarin (LM) composed of β(1→3)-glucan with β(1→6)-branches was extracted from brown seaweed Lobophora variegata and modified via carboxylation using dielectric barrier discharge (LMC), conjugation with gallic acid (LMG), and sulfation (LMS). Analyses of the chemical composition of LMC, LMG, and LMS yielded 11.7% carboxyl groups, 1.5% gallic acid, and 1.4% sulfate content, respectively. Antioxidant activities of native and modified laminarins were assessed using six different in vitro methods. Sulfation stopped the antioxidant activities of LM. On the other hand, carboxylation improved cooper chelation (1.2 times). LMG was found to be a more efficient antioxidant agent than LM in terms of copper chelation (1.3 times), reducing power (1.3 times), and total antioxidant capacity (80 times). Gallic acid conjugation was further confirmed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and one- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy analyses. LMG also did not induce cell death or affect the cell cycle of Madin–Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells. On the contrary, LMG protected MDCK cells from H2O2-induced oxidative damage. Taken together, these results show that LMG has the potent antioxidant capacity, and, therefore, potential applications in pharmacological and functional food products.

Epitaxial strain provides important pathways to control the magnetic and electronic states in transition-metal oxides. However, the large strain is usually accompanied by a strong reduction of the oxygen-vacancy formation energy, which hinders the direct manipulation of their intrinsic properties. Here, using a postdeposition ozone annealing method, we obtain a series of oxygen stoichiometric SrCoO_{3} thin films with the tensile strain up to 3.0%. We observe a robust ferromagnetic ground state in all strained thin films, while interestingly the tensile strain triggers a distinct metal-to-insulator transition along with the increase of the tensile strain. The persistent ferromagnetic state across the electrical transition therefore suggests that the magnetic state is directly correlated with the localized electrons, rather than the itinerant ones, which then calls for further investigation of the intrinsic mechanism of this magnetic compound beyond the double-exchange mechanism.

ABSTRACT In this article, a state-of-the-art review on the impacts of Smart Grid in the operation and planning of the expansion of the Electric Power System is presented. The concept of Smart Grid is increasingly integrated in conventional networks, and the impact that this new technology generates on operation and planning must be investigated. Thus, in this article a survey of the main scientific publications was made with the purpose of determining the impacts and methodologies most used in this analysis. Efforts to analyze impacts are large because of the high degree of uncertainty of this new technology added to the problem. After the bibliographic survey, it was concluded that Robust Optimization and Genetic Algorithms are methodologies that are effective in problems of this nature and are the most adopted methods.

Abstract The electrical sector is under constant evolution. One of the areas refers to the consumers that come to be generators, implementing distributed generation, interconnected to a smart grid. This article discusses the improvement of an algorithm, already presented in the literature, to make the best temporal allocation of loads, electric vehicle, storage and many sources of generation, aiming at the maximum financial performance, that is, the lowest value for the energy invoice The modeling consists of a Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) algorithm, which considers each component of the system and weighs the maintenance and shelf life of storage devices, basically batteries, loads that can be reallocated and the concept of Vehicle-to-grid, performing a daily analysis. The simulation has considered the hypothetical case of a residence, in which are included storage, electric vehicle and redistribution of loads, as well as wind and solar generation. Several scenarios are simulated, with or without the presence of some of the components. The results indicate that the simplest model, only redistributing the loads, can provide a sensible monetary savings of approximately 60%, while with the application of all the components modeled, there can be a reduction in the invoice of 90%.

Se presenta un catálogo de las plantas vasculares que crecen en Chile. Está organizado por divisiones, Pteridophyta (Lycopodiopsida y Polypodiopsida), Pinophyta (Gnetopsida y Pinopsida) y Magnoliophyta (Liliopsida y Magnoliopsida), y dentro de cada grupo, las jerarquías taxonómicas (Familia, Género, Especies y taxones infraespecíficos) están ordenados alfabéticamente. Se incluye además un índice alfabético de géneros con indicación de la familia y grupo a que pertenecen. De acuerdo a este catálogo la flora de las plantas vasculares que crecen en Chile, comprende 186 familias, 1121 géneros y 5471 especies, de éstas, 4655 corresponden a especies nativas, de las cuales 2145 son endémicas de Chile y 816 las especies introducidas.

The scope of this study is to analyze the institution of the Leniency Agreement, notably under the light of theAnticorruption Law provision (Law 12.846 of 2013)and theRegulatory Decree 8.420 of 2015. At first, the leniency agreement will be widely studied, mainly within the North American system to, simultaneously, investigate it in the contextof the Anticorruption law. Next, its possible (in) constitutionality will be refuted. Then, a parallel between Leniency Agreements and the dialogic Public Administration will be made, based on Habermas discursive theory. Finally, it will show that the Leniency Agreement constitutes a legitimate constitutional tool and, in addition, it configures as an effective consensual mechanism to fight corruption in a democratic soil.

O princípio da preservação ganhou especial destaque no Direito Empresarial a partir da vigência da Lei 11.101/2005, que regula a recuperação judicial, a extrajudicial e a falência do empresário e da sociedade empresária, quando o legislador o consignou expressamente no texto normativo (art. 47). A partir de então a doutrina vinculou substancialmente tal princípio a recuperação da empresa que se encontra em situação de crise econômico-financeira, ressaltando sua importância para manutenção da fonte produtora, do emprego e do interesse dos credores. Contudo, pretende o presente trabalho analisar o princípio da preservação da empresa de forma mais ampla, além das hipóteses de recuperação previstas na norma citada, ante a atribuição de responsabilidades sociais às empresas pelo Estado, tornando-as instrumentos de consecução de políticas públicas.

AbstractPolyester fabric samples – PET (poly (ethylene terephtalate)), were treated with oxygen plasma, in order to alter the hydrophilicity of such material. The process parameters: working pressure, current, tension and temperature were kept constant, varying only the treatment time. In order to evaluate the change caused on samples hydrophilicity, as well as the influence of the treatment time, the vertical wicking test was used. The samples were stored at standard temperature and pressure conditions, and their wettability were measured one day after the treatment and repeated after 30, 60 and 360 days, in order to check the stability of the effects produced. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Raman and ATR (Attenuated total reflection) spectroscopies were used to evaluate physical and chemical alterations on the samples surface. The results have shown a substantial improvement on the hydrophilicity of the treated samples compared to the non-treated sample.

Apesar das inúmeras publicações a respeito da versatilidade da técnica de descarga por barreira dielétrica (DBD), principalmente em aplicações emergentes como descontaminação biológica e química, pouco se apresentou sobre a influência dos parâmetros de processos. No presente trabalho é analisada a influência dos parâmetros do processo sobre as espécies ativas do plasma formado quando ar é utilizado como atmosfera. Analisou-se a influência da distância e voltagem aplicada entre eletrodos, bem como a frequência do pulso aplicado. As análises das espécies foram realizadas diagnosticando o plasma por espectroscopia de emissão óptica (EEO). Esses resultados foram correlacionados com dados da potência consumida no processo de produção de plasma, obtidos a partir das figuras de Lissajous. O equipamento DBD utilizado possui sua máxima eficiência de produção de plasma atmosférico com a distância entre eletrodos fixada em 0,5mm Voltagem de 15 kV e frequência de 500 ou 600 Hz dependendo da espécie ativa que se queira em maior quantidade N2 357nm ou N2 337nm respectivamente .

Thin nitride and titanium dioxide films were produced using an innovative technique called cathodic cage depositon. Uniformity, three-dimensionality and high rate deposition are some of the advantages of this technique. In this study we discuss the influences of temperature, treatment time and gaseous atmosphere on the characteristics of the deposited films. The TiN (titanium nitride) and TiO2 (titanium dioxide) films were produced using a high deposition rate of 2,5 µm/h at a work temperature and pressure of 400°C and 150 Pa respectively. EDS technique was used to identify the chemical composition of the thin film deposited, whilst Raman spectroscopy indicated the phases present confirmed by DRX analysis. The thickness of the deposited films was studied using electron microscopy scanning. The results based on the deposition parameters confirm the great efficiency and versatility of this technique, which allows a uniform three-dimensional film deposition on any material without the appearance of stress. Compared to other techniques, cathodic cage deposition enables deposition at lower temperatures and higher pressures.

A current goal of dental implant research is the development of titanium (Ti) surfaces to improve osseointegration. Plasma nitriding treatments generate surfaces that favor osteoblast differentiation, a key event to the process of osteogenesis. Based on this, it is possible to hypothesize that plasma-nitrided Ti implants may positively impact osseointegration. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the in vivo bone response to Ti surfaces modified by plasma-nitriding treatments. Material and Methods Surface treatments consisted of 20% N2 and 80% H2, 450°C and 1.5 mbar during 1 h for planar and 3 h for hollow cathode. Untreated surface was used as control. Ten implants of each surface were placed into rabbit tibiae and 6 weeks post-implantation they were harvested for histological and histomorphometric analyses. Results Bone formation was observed in contact with all implants without statistically significant differences among the evaluated surfaces in terms of bone-to-implant contact, bone area between threads, and bone area within the mirror area. Conclusion Our results indicate that plasma nitriding treatments generate Ti implants that induce similar bone response to the untreated ones. Thus, as these treatments improve the physico-chemical properties of Ti without affecting its biocompatibility, they could be combined with modifications that favor bone formation in order to develop new implant surfaces.

Rumo a um bem comum mundial?, correlacionando-as ao processo formativo pautado na responsabilidade integral. Considerando a necessidade de uma educação aberta à complexidade e à pluralidade das sociedades contemporâneas e que seja capaz de levar adiante a formação de uma cidadania pós nacional, é indispensável contar com estruturas pedagógicas que contemplem a formação do indivíduo em sua plena autonomia, a fim de que ele possa não apenas conviver sob o lastro do “nós”, mas abarque, acima de tudo, uma convivialidade integradora do “todos nós”. A educação, nesse sentido, não pode estar desenraizada dos Direitos Humanos, a saber, dos princípios morais que norteiam um aprendizado integral e responsável, capaz de oportunizar uma convivência não alienada na diversidade de valores éticos que ocupam o mesmo espaço social. Na esteira dos propósitos sobre Educação apresentados pela UNESCO, busca-se demonstrar que uma ação pedagógica baseada no respeito à diversidade cultural não se dá sem um autêntico processo de inclusão do “Eu” ao “Nós” e do “Nós” ao “Todos Nós”. Processo este que denominamos de responsabilidade integral.
