We present a highly elastic and flexible capacitive pressure/force sensing array assembled from elastic conductive thin films of carbon black composite. A robust simple fabrication technique was used, that allows seamless and easy integration of the presented elastic carbon composite capacitive tactile (ECT) sensor architecture in a wide range of robotic. The ECT sensor architecture was made completely from highly elastic and flexible elastomers with no rigid or strain limiting elements and can reversibly deform to sense loads as small as 0.05 ​N (5 ​g). The pressure sensing patch consists of 16 tactels arranged in a 4 ​× ​4 array. The capacitive sensing elements demonstrated high levels of sensitivity of nearly 150 ​pF/MPa and repeatability with instantaneous response and virtually zero hysteresis to the applied load. The sensor shows good performance as presented in this work, and has potential for use in a wide range of robotic applications.

Currently, researchers have indicated that inorganic minerals in reservoirs, such as clay minerals, carbonates and quartz, can catalyze the evolution of organic matter into oil and gas. Therefore it is reasonable to believe that the minerals in reservoirs may act as a catalyst support with the metal-containing catalyst added from outside during the thermal recovery of heavy oil. This paper studied the aquathermolysis of heavy oil catalyzed by minerals and transition metal. The reaction conditions of two heavy oil samples were investigated. The results show that the optimal reaction conditions of heavy oil from Xinjiang Baikouquan Oilfield (XBO) are the reaction temperature of 250 °C and the reaction time of 6 h; for the crude oil from Xinjiang Tahe Oilfield (XTO), the optimal reaction conditions are determined to be the reaction temperature of 250 °C and the reaction time of 12 h, the water–oil ratio of the two oils is 0.3. Under optimal conditions, viscosity and pour point of heavy oil are significantly reduced. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), GC-MS analysis, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and elemental analysis were used to study the properties of the two heavy oil samples before and after reaction to explore the mechanism of the catalyzed aquathermolysis of heavy oil. This work will benefit the related heavy oil recovery work in this field.

In this study, a clean oxidation process for the treatment of wastewater containing hydroxypropyl guar gum (HPGG) and other polymers under a high pH range was designed. For that, 5-sulfosalicylic acid (L)-Co(II) complex supported on bentonite (B) (B@Co(II)L) was prepared for treatment of wastewater by hydrogen peroxide ($\mathrm{H}_{2}\mathrm{O}_{2}$). The morphology and pore structure of B@Co(II)L was first characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier infrared spectrometer (FT-IR), and $\mathrm{N}_{2}$ adsorption–desorption isotherms, after which the catalytic performance was investigated for the treatment of polymer wastewater. Results show that B@Co(II)L performed high catalytic performance in a wide range of 7.0 to 13.0. The viscosity of the HPGG can be decreased effectively from 22 to 2.5 mm$^{2}$/s under the optimal conditions of 45 °C, pH 10.0, 10% $\mathrm{H}_{2}\mathrm{O}_{2}$ (mass ratio to HPGG), and 10% B@Co(II)L (mass ratio to $\mathrm{H}_{2}\mathrm{O}_{2}$), and the removal rate for chemical oxygen demand (COD) of HPGG, CMC, and PAM reached to 95.9%, 94.8%, and 93.7%, respectively, within 240 min. Most of all, by applying the catalyst in the oilfield, it was found that the catalyst has high performance and the removal rate for COD of oilfield wastewater, fracturing fluids, and drilling fluid can be achieved by 92.1%, 94.2%, and 90.7%, respectively.

Betaine surfactants are used widely in oil field chemistry as well as other industrial applications, but their foaming ability is very poor so that it cannot be used in foaming. In this work, the effect of octadecyl ammonium oxide on the foam properties of oleate amide propyl betaine, a new compound foaming reagent, is studied based on foam performance. Then, a foam drainage reagent of 0.5 wt% oleate amide propyl betaine and 0.1 wt% octadecyl ammonium oxide is developed for natural gas production. Its salt resistance, methanol resistance, high temperature resistance, anti-condensate oil performance, and emulsification ability are systematically evaluated. Furthermore, the factors affecting foam performance are analyzed. The results show that the compound foaming reagent has good anti-salt, anti-methanol, and anti-condensate oil properties for meeting application requirements. The microstructures of foams derived from different reagents reveal the stability mechanism. All results reflect the fact that compounding can expand their application range in different environments to various extents, which benefits the design and use of compound surfactants.

In this study, to optimize the foaming activity of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), modified sodium dodecyl sulfate surfactants (MSDS-1 and MSDS-2) are prepared by using methanol and diethanol amine as modifiers by the Mannich reaction. The foaming properties and foam stability of the products are evaluated by the Ross–Miles method and the Waring blender method. The microstructures of the foams produced by three surfactants are compared. The effects of temperature, inorganic salt, methanol, and condensate oil on the foaming activity of SDS, MSDS-1, and MSDS-2 are studied. The results obtained show that the best foaming concentration of all three products is 0.5%. Compared with SDS, the temperature resistance, methanol resistance, salt resistance and anti-condensate oil performance of MSDS-1 and MSDS-2 are improved. Among them, the temperature resistance, salt resistance, and methanol resistance of the MSDS-1 solution are the best. The MSDS-2 solution has the best anti-condensate performance. Besides, the foam size becomes smaller, the foam wall thickens, and the foam stability is improved after modification. The overall performance of SDS as a foaming agent can be improved by the Mannich modification.

This study investigated the effects of food culture on the economic and ecological development of rural rivers and adolescents’ intentions toward tourism in high-risk leisure environments. The study applied a mixed-methods design. A questionnaire was designed and distributed to recruited participants, and 900 responses were collected and analyzed, with SPSS 26.0 used to perform basic statistical validation and Pearson’s correlation analysis. Structured interviews were conducted to collect the opinions of experts, tourists, and residents of the investigated areas. A multivariate analysis was used to analyze the results, which revealed that superior economic, societal, and ecological development is associated with greater leisure, tourism, and consumption intentions. However, varying levels of environmental literacy among tourists can present challenges. Problems such as tourism waste; overdevelopment; loss of historic architectural features; and pollution of water, forests, and air may deter young tourists from revisiting an area and diminish their willingness to engage in and share leisure experiences.

AIM: To investigate the role of autophagy inhibitor 3-methyladenine (3-MA) on a diabetic mice model (DM) and the potential mechanism. METHODS: Male C57BL/6J mice were randomly divided into a normal control group (NC group) and an DM group. DM were induced by multiple low-dose intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ) 60 mg/kg●d for 5 consecutive days. DM mice were randomly subdivided into untreated group (DM group), 3-MA (10 mg/kg●d by gavage) treated group (DM+3-MA group) and chloroquine (CQ; 50 mg/kg by intraperitoneal injection) treated group (DM+CQ group). The fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels were recorded every week. At the end of experiment, retinal samples were collected. The expression levels of pro-apoptotic proteins cleaved caspase-3, cleaved poly ADP-ribose polymerase 1 (PARP1) and Bax, anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2, fibrosis-associated proteins Fibronectin and type 1 collagen α1 chain (COL1A1), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), inflammatory factors interleukin (IL)-1β and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, as well as autophagy related proteins LC3, Beclin-1 and P62 were determined by Western blotting. The oxidative stress indicators 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were detected by commercial kits. RESULTS: Both 3-MA and CQ had short-term hypoglycemic effect on FBG and reduced the expression of VEGF and inflammatory factors IL-1β and TNF-α in DM mice. 3-MA also significantly alleviated oxidative stress indicators 8-OHdG and MDA, decreased the expression of fibrosis-related proteins Fibronectin and COL1A1, pro-apoptotic proteins cleaved caspase-3, cleaved PARP1, as well as the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2. CQ had no significant impact on the oxidative stress indicators, fibrosis, and apoptosis related proteins. The results of Western blotting for autophagy related proteins showed that the ratio of LC3 II/LC3 I and the expression of Beclin-1 in the retina of DM mice were decreased by 3-MA treatment, and the expression of P62 was further increased by CQ treatment. CONCLUSION: 3-MA has anti-apoptotic and anti-fibrotic effects on the retina of DM mice, and can attenuate retinal oxidative stress, VEGF expression and the production of inflammatory factors in the retina of DM mice. The underlying mechanism of the above effects of 3-MA may be related to its inhibition of early autophagy and hypoglycemic effect.

Abstract Background Fear of cancer recurrence (FCR) and psychological distress are common psychological problems in breast cancer (BC) patients and ultimately affecting their health‐related quality of life (HRQoL). Heart rate variability (HRV) can reflect the activity of the parasympathetic nervous system. However, the pathways through which HRV influences between FCR and HRQoL are unclear. This study preliminarily explored the intermediary role of HRV in FCR and HRQoL in BC patients. Methods A total of 101 BC patients participated in this study. HRV parameters were measured by a 5‐min dynamic electrocardiogram. FCR, psychological distress and HRQoL were evaluated by the Fear of disease progression simplified scale (FOP‐Q‐SF), Distress thermometer and SF‐36 concise health survey. The intermediary effect model was established to test the intermediary effect of high frequency‐HRV (HF‐HRV) on FCR and HRQoL. Results FCR and psychological distress were negatively correlated with HRV in the time domain, negatively correlated with HF‐HRV in the frequency domain, and positively correlated with low frequency/high frequency (LF/HF). HF‐HRV had a partial mediating effect on the FCR and physical health and mental health, with effects of 30.23% and 9.53%, respectively. Conclusion FCR and psychological distress are correlated with HRV parameters in the time domain and the frequency domain, and we preliminarily believe that parasympathetic nerves play an important intermediary role between FCR and subjective physical and mental health. This may provide intervention information for improving the HRQoL of BC patients.

The microstructure evolution and precipitation phase distribution of 7075 aluminum alloy friction stir welding (FSW) joint were investigated under liquid CO2 cooling conditions. The fine grained 7075 aluminum alloy was developed by four-pass equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) and FSW joints with CO2 cooling at room temperature. It was found that CO2 cooling could effectively reduce the peak temperature of the weld, leading to a refinement of the welded grain and an improvement of the welded joint. Various recrystallization mechanisms were found in different areas of the weld. The grain boundary and dislocation density of large angles gradually decreased from the weld stir-zone (SZ) to the heat-affected-zone (HAZ) regions, and the anisotropy increased. The type of precipitated phase and the relationship with the matrix interface were determined by detecting the spacing between the precipitated phase and the crystal plane of the matrix. CO2 forced cooling not only enhanced the matrix dislocation strengthening and grain boundary strengthening, but also effectively improved the size and type of precipitated phases and the colattice strengthening effect. In addition, liquid CO2 cooling can greatly reduce the PFZ width and enhance the Zener pinning effect.

Breast cancer is a grave traumatic experience that can profoundly compromise patients’ psychological resilience, impacting their overall quality of life. The oxytocin system represents one of the essential neurobiological bases of psychological resilience and plays a critical role in regulating resilience in response to social or traumatic events during adulthood. Oxytocin, through its direct interaction with peripheral or central oxytocin receptors, has been found to have a significant impact on regulating social behavior. However, the precise mechanism by which the activation of peripheral oxytocin receptors leads to improved social is still not completely comprehended and requires additional research. Its activation can modulate psychological resilience by influencing estrogen and its receptors, the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, thyroid function, 5-hydroxytryptamine metabolism levels, and arginine pressure release in breast cancer patients. Various interventions, including psychotherapy and behavioral measures, have been employed to improve the psychological resilience of breast cancer patients. The potential effectiveness of such interventions may be underpinned by their ability to modulate oxytocin release levels. This review provides an overview of the oxytocin system and resilience in breast cancer patients and identifies possible future research directions and interventions.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of managing cancer and living meaningfully (CALM), a psychological intervention with semi-structured interviews, on cancer-related fatigue (CRF), quality of life (QOL), and sleep quality in patients with gastrointestinal (GI) cancer, which may be accompanied by changes in cytokine levels. Methods: A total of 152 GI cancer patients with CRF were enrolled in the study during treatment. Patients were randomly assigned to CALM or usual care (UC) groups. Patients in the CALM group received 12 weeks of CALM plus usual care, and patients in the UC group received usual care plus usual health education. All study participants were evaluated at baseline and at 12 weeks using the Revised Piper Fatigue Scale, the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer-Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scale, while cytokine levels were measured. Results: At 12 weeks, the differences in total CRF, QOL, sleep quality, IL-6, IL-4, and TNF-α levels were statistically significant not only in the CALM group compared to patients in the UC group ( t = −7.902, t = 2.163, t = −2.187, t = 3.313, t = −4.120, t = −3.853, respectively; P

The single-cell triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) often produces insufficient energy, leading to the use of a multicellular TENG structure. This work experimented with and simulated a dual-cell TENG with various configurations in parallel and series arrangements. The working principle of charge generation during each phase of a contact–separation cycle was explained through the analysis and comparison of five electrical configurations of a dual-cell TENG. Our observations indicate that measuring the output charge of a TENG provides a more reliable performance comparison. Finally, multicellular TENG with four cells arranged in an X-shape (X-TENG), self-supporting structure is fabricated and further experimented with, validating our conjectures derived from a dual-cell TENG.

Even though spring ecosystems are ecologically unique and socio-culturally important worldwide, they hardly attract research attention. The aims of this study were to evaluate the environmental status of water quality, and to inventory the species diversity of aquatic animals in 65 springs in Taiwan from 2012 to 2017, of which seven springs were unable to be sampled due the fact that they were dried or sealed up. The environmental status of 58 springs with complete water quality data was assessed by the River Pollution Index (RPI). Based on the RPI, the water quality of these 58 sampled springs was mainly non-/mildly polluted (26 springs, 44.8%) and lightly polluted (23 spring, 39.6%), and nine (15.5%) springs were moderately polluted. However, when applied to springs, the RPI may intensify the pollution rankings because dissolved oxygen is an assessing factor, and hypoxia may naturally be observed in the springs. To avoid this concern, we suggest choosing the concentration of coliform instead of dissolved oxygen content in the RPI when it is applied to springs. During the 6 years of the study period, we collected 48 fish species in 44 springs, 24 gastropoda and bivalve species in 46 springs, 16 shrimp species in 34 springs, and 14 crab species in 18 springs. Within the species collected, 31 fish, 20 gastropoda and bivalves, 12 shrimps, and 14 crabs are native species of Taiwan. They totaled 27.2 to 35% of the known aquatic native species of the island. Thus, springs in Taiwan may be considered to be a conservation hotspot of aquatic animals. Other than native species, exotic aquatic animals also represent threats, as seventeen fishes (35.4%), four gastropoda and bivalves (16.6%), and two shrimps (12.5%) were found in the springs of Taiwan. The springs in Taiwan show diverse and vital ecosystem services, such as delivering social, cultural, and economic value, conserving native and endangered freshwater animals, developing new academic theories, and supplying habitat refugees from climate change. Unfortunately, springs in Taiwan currently are also threatened by multiple anthropogenic disturbances, such as the overconsumption of groundwater by land development and urbanization, deterioration of water quality by agricultural, domestic, and industrial pollution, and inappropriate tourism and management tactics. To restore and sustain the springs in Taiwan, effective strategies and practical measures are urgently required to minimize human-caused threats and revitalize social awareness of springs.

Bone metastasis is a common complication of many types of advanced cancer, including breast cancer. Bone metastasis may cause severe pain, fractures, and hypercalcemia, rendering clinical management challenging and substantially reducing the quality of life and overall survival (OS) time of breast cancer patients. Studies have revealed that bone metastasis is related to interactions between tumor cells and the bone microenvironment, and involves complex molecular biological mechanisms, including colonization, osteolytic destruction, and an immunosuppressive bone microenvironment. Agents inhibiting bone metastasis (such as bisphosphate and denosumab) alleviate bone destruction and improve the quality of life of breast cancer patients with bone metastasis. However, the prognosis of these patients remains poor, and the specific biological mechanism of bone metastasis is incompletely understood. Additional basic and clinical studies are urgently needed, to further explore the mechanism of bone metastasis and develop new therapeutic drugs. This review presents a summary of the molecular mechanisms and therapeutic strategies of bone metastasis of breast cancer, aiming to improve the quality of life and prognosis of breast cancer patients and provide a reference for future research directions.
