Abstract Load Frequency Control (LFC) is essential for maintaining the stability of Islanded Microgrids (IMGs) that rely extensively on Renewable Energy Sources (RES). This paper introduces a groundbreaking 1PD-PI (one + Proportional + Derivative-Proportional + Integral) controller, marking its inaugural use in improving LFC performance within IMGs. The creation of this advanced controller stems from the amalgamation of 1PD and PI control strategies. Furthermore, the paper presents the Mountaineering Team Based Optimization (MTBO) algorithm, a novel meta-heuristic technique introduced for the first time to effectively tackle LFC challenges. This algorithm, inspired by principles of intellectual and environmental evolution and coordinated human behavior, is utilized to optimize the controller gains. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology is rigorously evaluated within a simulated IMG environment using MATLAB/SIMULINK. This simulated IMG incorporates diverse power generation sources, including Diesel Engine Generators (DEGs), Microturbines (MTs), Fuel Cells (FCs), Energy Storage Systems (ESSs), and RES units like Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) and Photovoltaics (PVs). This paper employs the Integral Time Multiplied by the Squared Error (ITSE) and Integral of Time Multiplied By Absolute Error (ITAE) indicators as the primary performance metrics, conventionally used to mitigate frequency deviations. To achieve optimal controller parameter tuning, a weighted composite objective function is formulated. This function incorporates multiple components: modified objective functions related to both ITSE and ITAE, along with a term addressing overshoot and settling time. Each component is assigned an appropriate weighting factor to prioritize specific performance aspects. By employing distinct objective functions for different aspects of control performance, the derivation of optimized controller gains is facilitated. The efficacy and contribution of the proposed methodology are rigorously demonstrated within the context of RES-based IMGs, featuring a comparative analysis with well-known optimization algorithms, including Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and the Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA). These algorithms are used to optimize the 1PD-PI controller, resulting in three control schemes: 1PD-PI/MTBO, 1PD-PI/WOA, and 1PD-PI/PSO. The effectiveness of these control schemes is evaluated under various loading conditions, incorporating parametric uncertainties and nonlinear factors of physical constraints. Three case studies, presented in eight scenarios (I-VIII), are utilized to comprehensively assess the efficiency, robustness, and sensitivity of the proposed approach. This analysis extends beyond the time domain, considering the stability evaluation of the proposed control scheme. Simulation results unequivocally establish the superior performance of the MTBO algorithm-optimized 1PD-PI controller compared to its counterparts. This superiority is evident in terms of minimized settling time, reduced peak undershoot and overshoot, and enhanced error-integrating performance characteristics within the system responses. Improvements are observed in both the high range and within the 80–90% range for criteria such as overshoot, undershoot, and the numerical values of the objective functions. This paper underscores the practicality and effectiveness of the 1PD-PI/MTBO control scheme, offering valuable insights into the management of frequency disturbances in RES-based IMGs.

Abstract Background IL-6 polymorphisms were associated to viral infection outcomes through affection of IL-6 production and it is an early indicator of tissue injury and systemic inflammatory response. The study aimed to determine whether genetic IL-6 polymorphisms, serum interleukin-6 level and inflammatory markers (Presepsin, CXCL-10, C3, and C4) are associated with the prediction of disease severity in pediatric COVID-19 patients and its possible use as a prognostic tool in pediatric patients admitted to hospital. Methods This prospective cohort study was conducted on 150 children with COVID-19. Patients were divided according to the severity of infection into four groups: group I (mild) 67 cases; group II (moderate) 53 cases, group III (severe) 17 cases and group IV (critical) 14 cases. Serum Interleukin 6, CXCL-10, Presepsin, renal and liver functions, electrolytes, C3, C4, ferritin, and D dimer serum levels were assessed in all patients. The Kruskal Wallis test used to compare parametric quantitative data between studied groups and Mann Whitney test for each pair of groups. Non-parametric quantitative data was compared between studied groups using a one-way ANOVA test and post-hoc Bonferroni analysis for each pair of groups. Results Group I: 35 males and 32 females with a median age of 16 months. Group II: 17 males and 35 females with a median age of 13 months. Group III: 6 males and 11 females with a median age of 12 months and group IV: 3 males and 11 females with a median age of 12 months. There was no statistical difference between the studied groups regarding gender and age. Serum levels of IL- 6, serum ferritin; D-dimer, Presepsin and CXCL 10 were significantly higher in both severe and critical groups than the other 2 groups (mild and moderate). ROC curve analysis showed that interleukin-6 and Presepsin were good markers for prediction of severity of COVID-19 among the diseased children. For severe cases, the sensitivity of interleukin-6 was 76.47% and specificity was 92.31%. For critical cases, the sensitivity of interleukin-6 was 71.43% and specificity was 82.35%. The sensitivity of Presepsin was 76.47% and specificity was 88.46% in severe cases. For critical cases, the sensitivity of Presepsin was 78.57% and specificity of 91.2%. There was significant difference in IL-6 572 allelic among moderate cases with the most frequent 42.3% for genotype (GC) and allelic among severe cases with the most frequent 47.1% for genotype (GC). Significant difference in IL-6 174 allelic among critical cases with the most frequent 78.6% for genotype (CC). Conclusions Children whom expressed GC genotypes of IL6 (-572G > C) polymorphism are at a considerably higher risk of developing a severe disease. This risk is significantly larger in the severe group of children than in children in critical condition who have GC genotypes of IL6 (-174 G > C) polymorphism. While IL6 (-597G > A) polymorphism has no role in COVID 19 severity in children.

Gumboro, or infectious bursal disease (IBD), represents a significant threat to poultry worldwide due to its genetic and pathogenic variations. Viruses can mutate and produce new variants, which can have an impact on the epidemiological situation. The study will determine and assess the genetics, protein sequence, and pathogenicity of IBDV present in broiler flocks in different locations within Ismalia and Dakahlia Governorates, Egypt, in 2022. A total of 150 bursa samples were collected from 15 broiler flocks exhibiting symptoms indicative of IBDV infection. The VP2 (viral protein2) gene was partially detected and then subjected to complete gene sequencing in order to summarize the key genetic mutations found and histopathological examination. The results demonstrated that 12 out of 15 farms were infected with IBDV. Genetic analysis revealed that 10 of the 12 identified strains belonged to genogroup 3, which was similar to previous Egyptian strains. The remaining two strains were of genus 1. The VP2 gene's hypervariable region displayed amino acid alterations at several positions. Classic IBDV strains (genogroup 2) showed similar amino acid profiles. Amino acid alterations were identified in the VP2 gene, indicating that classic IBDV strains may cause damage to the bursa of Fabricius, leading to immunosuppression. In Egypt, vvIBDV (very virulent infectious bursal disease virus) strains have led to recurring outbreaks and high chick mortality rates. These findings are anticipated to contribute to the latest features of IBDV in the examined regions. Therefore, it is recommended that IBDV immunization programs in Egypt, where live attenuated virus vaccinations are common, be reevaluated. It is also recommended that the evaluation of clinical signs in broiler chicken flocks over time be monitored for diagnosis.

Land use/land cover (LULC) change information is crucial for monitoring purposes, formulating strategies, socioeconomic progress, and decision-making. The main objective of this study is to analyze and quantify the changes in land use and land cover patterns within the Maamora forest in Morocco, and to identify the key factors that influenced its trend from 1989 to 2022. In this study, multispectral remote sensing (RS) data were employed to detect land cover changes in the Maamora forest using Landsat images for the years 1989, 1999, 2009, 2019 and 2022. The maximum likelihood classification (MLC) method was applied to classify the Landsat images using ArcMap 10.4 software to analyze the current state of the study area. Seven LULC classes (cork oak, eucalyptus, pine, acacia, bare land, daya, and others) were successfully classified, achieving overall accuracies surpassing 86 % and Kappa coefficients greater than 0.85 for all selected dates. The results of the land use/land cover change detection indicate a decrease in the cork oak area from 60.71% to 44.42%, along with an increase in the eucalyptus area from 18.11% to 39.31%. Moreover, the pine, acacia, bare land, daya, and other classes went from 17.22, 2.80, 0.95, 0.05, and 0.12% to 4.58, 0.02, 10.84, 0.34, and 0.48% respectively. Indeed, from 1989 to 2022, around 50.84% of the study area's surface remained unchanged, whereas 49.16% underwent changes, transitioning to other land cover classes or endured degradation. This research underscores the anthropogenic transformation of the Maamora woodland, which has led to the degradation of its natural resources. Broadly, these findings can serve as foundational data for future research endeavors and offer valuable insights to concentrate on the key factors driving forest degradation in order to inform the development of interventions aimed at preserving the sustainability of natural species and the overall ecosystem.

Abstract Background Proteoglycans are important tumor microenvironment extracellular matrix components. The regulation of key proteoglycans, such as decorin (DCN), by miRNAs has drawn attention since they have surfaced as novel therapeutic targets in cancer. Accordingly, this study aimed at identifying the impact of miR-181a in liver cancer and its regulatory role on the extracellular matrix proteoglycan, DCN, and hence on downstream oncogenes and tumor suppressor genes. Results DCN was under-expressed in 22 cirrhotic and HCC liver tissues compared to that in 11 healthy tissues of liver transplantation donors. Conversely, miR-181a was over-expressed in HCC liver tissues compared to that in healthy liver tissues. In silico analysis predicted that DCN 3’UTR harbors two high-score oncomiR-181a binding regions. This was validated by pmiRGLO luciferase reporter assay. Ectopic miR-181a expression into HuH-7 cells repressed the transcript and protein levels of DCN as assessed fluorometrically and by western blotting. DCN siRNAs showed similar results to miR-181a, where they both enhanced the cellular viability, proliferation, and clonogenicity. They also increased Myc and E2F and decreased p53 and Rb signaling as assessed using reporter vectors harboring p53, Rb, Myc, and E2F response elements. Our findings demonstrated that miR-181a directly downregulated the expression of its direct downstream target DCN, which in turn affected downstream targets related to cellular proliferation and apoptosis. Conclusion To our knowledge, this is the first study to unveil the direct targeting of DCN by oncomiR-181a. We also highlighted that miR-181a affects targets related to cellular proliferation in HCC which may be partly mediated through inhibition of DCN transcription. Thus, miR-181a could be a promising biomarker for the early detection and monitoring of liver cancer progression. This would pave the way for the future targeting of the oncomiR-181a as a therapeutic approach in liver cancer, where miR-181a-based therapy approach could be potentially combined with chemotherapy and immunotherapy for the management of liver cancer.

Abstract Background and objectives Lupus nephritis (LN) is a severe clinical manifestation seen in individuals with systemic lupus erythematous (SLE). It has a poor long-term prognosis in pediatric patients with high morbidity and mortality rates. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are noncoding small RNAs that act as epigenetic modulators, regulating gene expression, and modulating the understanding of mechanisms and pathogenesis of human diseases. Depending on bioinformatics analysis, we aimed to investigate urinary expression of miR-663a in LN among SLE children and discriminate between proteinuria of LN versus chronic renal disease without SLE. Methods The urinary miR-663a expression levels were estimated in cellular pellets from 15 SLE patients, 15 SLE and biopsy-proven active LN patients, 15 chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients rather than LN and 15 healthy controls. Abstract Background Bulk-fill resin composites may suffer from recurrent caries around compound proximal restorations in posterior teeth, especially at the proximo-gingival interface.Over 12 months, will the bulk fill technique affect the caries recurrence rate at gingival margins when compared to the conventional incremental packing technique? How early will the first clinical, radiographical, and biochemical evidence of caries recurrence occur? Methods After randomization, in 30 patients with two compound (OM or OD) supragingival lesions, one tooth was restored using the bulk fill technique on one side (group 1) (n = 15). In contrast, the other tooth on the other side was restored utilizing the incremental layering technique (group 2) (n = 15). Both teeth received restorative material (X-tra fil, Voco, Cuxhaven, Germany). The FDI criteria were used to evaluate restorations. As for the periodontal assessment, the gingival index, plaque index, papillary bleeding scoring index and periodontal pocket depth were evaluated. The gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) specimens were gathered, and MMP-9 was extracted and quantitated by ELISA. A customized radiographic template was designed, and 3D printed digital bitewing radiographs were taken. Assessments were done clinically, radiographically and biochemically at baseline (1 week) and after 3, 6 and 12 months. Data was statistically analyzed. Results The null hypothesis was accepted clinically; no statistically significant differences appeared between bulk and incrementally filled posterior restorations. As for the radiographic assessment, the null hypothesis was accepted except for increased periodontal ligament width at 3 months. The null hypothesis for the biochemical evaluation was rejected as there were significant changes in levels of MMP-9 at different testing times. Conclusions 1. With similar results but less sensitivity and significant time saving, the bulk fill technique can be considered an efficient alternative to the incremental fill technique in restoring proximal cavities. 2. Early evidence of caries recurrence can be correlated to an increase in the MMP-9 level in gingival crevicular fluid, followed by an increase in radiographic periodontal ligament width measurement. Trial registration An ethical approval from the Research Ethics Committee at the Faculty of Dentistry, October 6 University, (Approval No. RECO6U/5-2022). Abstract Background Climate changes have led to health and environmental risks, so it has become essential to measure climate change literacy among the entire population, especially nursing students. The significant role of nursing students in raising public awareness and future healthcare roles emphasizes assessing the predictors of climate change literacy among nursing students. Aims This study seeks to identify the predictors of climate change literacy among nursing students in A Multi-Site Survey. Design A multi-site descriptive cross-sectional study adheres to the guidelines outlined in A Consensus-Based Checklist for Reporting Survey Studies collected for five months, from the 1st of July 2023 to November 2023. The study participants comprise 10,084 nursing students from all 27 governments in Egypt. The researcher used the Predictors of Nursing Students’ Climate Change Literacy scale in this study. Data was collected, with 25 min average time to complete. Backward multiple linear regression was used to identify these predictors. Results In the current study, nursing students demonstrated a moderate understanding of climate science (mean score 14.38), communication and advocacy skills (mean score 14.41), and knowledge of adaptation and mitigation strategies (mean score 13.33). Climate health impacts (mean score 17.72) emerged as the domain with the highest level of knowledge. No significant differences in climate literacy were observed across diverse student backgrounds (all p-values were > 0.05). Abstract Background The aim of this study was to determine the cutting efficiency of different diamond rotary instrument types for sectioning monolithic zirconia and lithium disilicate anatomical crowns. Materials and methods The study used 30 diamond rotary instruments divided into three groups: Zirconia cutting diamond bur (White Z), super coarse grit diamond bur (KBlack), and medium coarse grit diamond bur (KBlue); Two subgroups were assigned based on the crown materials including monolithic zirconia (5YSZ) and lithium disilicate (e.max) ceramics. The cutting efficiency was assessed by measuring the time required to fully section the crowns, followed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) of the dental burs before use and after every sectioned crown. A three-way ANOVA examined the effects of bur type, material type, and sectioning stage. If interaction exists, one-way ANOVA was used to compare the different subgroups, followed by the Tukey post hoc test. The significance level was assigned at α ≤ 0.05. Results The results exhibited various cutting efficiencies among diamond rotary instruments and ceramic crown materials. White Z demonstrated superior cutting efficiency of zirconia crown compared with KBlack and KBlue for the first cutting cycles (p ≤ 0.05); the results tend to be more comparable at the third cutting cycle. However, the super coarse diamond bur exhibited higher efficiency in cutting lithium disilicate crowns than white Z and KBlue burs through all three cutting cycles(p ≤ 0.05). The diamond bur-cutting efficiency diminished after each use, irrespective of the bur type or the crown material (p ≤ 0.05); this was represented by the reduction of carbon and increased nickel matrix ratio after each bur usage. Conclusion White Z diamond bur showed higher cutting efficiency of zirconia in the first two cutting cycles; super coarse diamond bur is more efficient for cutting lithium disilicate crown in all of the cutting cycles. The amount of diamond on the burs reduced after each use, with no great impact on the material type when sectioning lithium disilicate and 5YSZ crowns. Clinical significance This study provides valuable insights for dental practitioners in selecting the appropriate diamond rotary instrument for crown sectioning. Practitioners can minimize the risk of damage and reduce the time required for crown removal, improving patient outcomes.

Introduction: Visual impairment significantly impacts individuals, causing functional and psychological challenges. Effective health promotion strategies require a robust foundation, necessitating an assessment of the awareness toward eye screening programs. This study aims to evaluate the awareness and attitudes of the public towards eye screening programs in Selangor, Malaysia. Methods: A cross-sectional study involved 388 adults aged 18 years and above. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire. Chi-square analysis assessed associations between knowledge and attitudes regarding screening programs for various eye diseases among adults. Results: A significant correlation was found between knowledge and attitudes toward different eye disease screening programs among adults in Selangor (p = 0.00). Additionally, associations were observed between age, marital status, residence area, education level, and knowledge of screening programs for different eye diseases (p < 0.05). Age, gender, residential area, and education significantly correlated with attitudes toward screening programs (p = 0.00). Conclusion: This study underscores the need for targeted initiatives to raise awareness of visual impairment and the importance of routine eye exams. Particularly, efforts should be directed toward the elderly and individuals with lower education levels.

Abstract Background Eplerenone and spironolactone, recognized as mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs), have been reported to improve clinical prognosis among individuals diagnosed with heart failure (HF). However, the difference in the clinical effects between eplerenone and spironolactone in individuals with HF remains uncertain. We aimed to assess the impact of eplerenone compared to spironolactone on clinical outcomes within the HF population. Methods An extensive search was executed in several databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane Library). All relevant studies evaluating eplerenone compared to spironolactone in patients with HF were included. Dichotomous data were pooled as Hazard ratio (HR) or Risk ratio (RR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI). Our main outcome was all-cause mortality. Secondary outcomes included death from cardiovascular causes, treatment withdrawal, and gynecomastia. Results Ten studies, comprising 21,930 HF individuals, were included in our investigation. Eplerenone showed a lower risk of all-cause mortality (HR = 0.78, 95%CI [0.64 to 0.94], P = 0.009) and cardiovascular mortality (HR = 0.54, 95%CI [0.39, 0.74], P = 0.0001) compared to spironolactone. Furthermore, eplerenone exhibited a reduced risk of treatment withdrawal (RR = 0.69, 95% CI [0.62, 0.78], P = 0.0001) and gynecomastia (RR = 0.07, 95% CI [0.02 to 0.31], P = 0.0001) than spironolactone. Conclusion Eplerenone revealed lower all-cause and cardiovascular mortality events in comparison to spironolactone. Moreover, eplerenone was associated with lower gynecomastia and treatment withdrawal events compared to spironolactone. Further well-designed randomized controlled trials are still warranted better to identify the clinical differences between eplerenone and spironolactone. Abstract This study aims to bridge the empirical research gap in governance-modulating effects on the link between a country’s productive structure and individuals’ well-being. In doing so, this study utilizes the economic complexity index to quantify a country’s productive structure and the social progress index to measure quality of life. The empirical strategy relies on the system-GMM approach, covering 75 developing countries from 2011 to 2021. The following conclusions were drawn from the empirical analysis. (1) Economic complexity and governance consistently and unconditionally improve quality of life. (2) Governance substantially modulates economic complexity to enhance quality of life, generating an overall positive net effect. (3) The results remain robust and consistent across several GMM specifications, regardless of whether the six governance indicators compiled by the World Bank were clustered using principal component analysis into four categories (i.e., general, political, economic, and institutional) or used individually. (4) Of the six governance indicators, government effectiveness, the rule of law, and control of corruption were found to be particularly significant, as were economic and institutional governance. (5) An additional threshold analysis was implemented to identify the critical governance levels that further improve quality of life. The thresholds for complementary policies are then established as follows: 0.8435, 1.846, and 1.717 for government effectiveness, rule of law, and corruption control, respectively, and 5.59, 3.14, and 3.32 for general, institutional, and economic governance, respectively. Consequently, economic complexity and governance are necessary and sufficient to improve well-being below these thresholds. Complementary policies are, however, necessary to sustain the overall positive impact beyond these thresholds. The findings of this study provide insights into complementary policies for leveraging economic development to improve the well-being of developing countries.

Abstract Background The proliferation of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) has presented new challenges in public health, particularly among adolescents and young adults. While marketed as safer than tobacco and as cessation aids, e-cigarettes have raised concerns about their long-term health and psychosocial impacts, including potential links to increased suicidal behaviors. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between e-cigarette use and suicidal behaviors by conducting a systematic review of the current literature. Methods We searched PubMed, Web of Science, and EMBASE for studies up to March 10, 2024, examining the relationship between e-cigarette use and suicidal behaviors. Eligible studies included cross-sectional, longitudinal, retrospective, prospective, and case–control designs. Meta-analysis was performed to calculate pooled odds ratios (ORs). Newcastle Ottawa scale was used to assess the quality of studies. R software (V 4.3) was used to perform the meta-analysis. Results Our analysis included fourteen studies, predominantly from the US and Korea, with participants ranging from 1,151 to 255,887. The meta-analysis identified a significant association between e-cigarette use and an increased risk of suicidal ideation (OR = 1.489, 95% CI: 1.357 to 1.621), suicide attempts (OR = 2.497, 95% CI: 1.999 to 3.996), and suicidal planning (OR = 2.310, 95% CI: 1.810 to 2.810). Heterogeneity was noted among the studies. Conclusion E-cigarette use is significantly associated with the risk of suicidal behaviors, particularly among adolescents. The findings underscore the necessity for caution in endorsing e-cigarettes as a safer smoking alternative and call for more extensive research to understand the underlying mechanisms. Public health strategies should be developed to address and mitigate the risks of suicidal behaviors among e-cigarette users.

Abstract Assessing the groundwater quality is important for the efficient exploitation of water resources in semi-arid areas. The study area in northeast Algeria mostly depends on groundwater as its main source of water, and the quality of groundwater is becoming important due to the increasing need for freshwater. The hydrochemical characteristics and water quality of groundwater in the Tebessa-Ain Chabro were assessed using water quality indices, geochemical modeling, and multivariate statistical approaches. The study discovered that the groundwater samples could be classified into four distinct water groups using hierarchical cluster analysis in Q mode (HCA) based on their electrical conductivity. We identified three forms of water: mixed (Ca2+–Mg2+–Cl−), Na+–K+–HCO3 −, and Ca2+–Cl−. According to the water quality assessment, only 38% of the samples were deemed suitable for human consumption, while 34% were categorized as poor water, 10% as extremely poor, and 17% as unsafe for drinking. The irrigation water quality index identified four classifications: low, moderate, high, and severe restriction, with corresponding percentages of 31%, 31%, 7%, and 31%. The nitrate pollution index (NPI) showed that 48% of samples fell into the moderate pollution class. Human activity, such as sewage infiltration and waste disposal in open areas, was the cause of this nitrate contamination. The saturation index values showed that groundwater was less saturated in halite and sylvite and more saturated in aragonite, calcite, dolomite, anhydrite, gypsum, and hydroxyapatite. The Tebessa region’s groundwater’s hydrochemical properties and water quality have been assessed using multivariate statistical techniques, geochemical modeling, and water quality indexes. The study’s conclusions can provide a foundation for upcoming research evaluating the region’s groundwater quality.

Abstract Background Partial coverage concepts have met the main goal of conservative dentistry. Vonlays, which combine features of veneers and onlays, are a recent alternative to full coverage designs and overlay partial coverage restorations. This in vitro study was conducted to compare the fracture resistance of the newly introduced pressable zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate with pressable lithium disilicate ceramic and to determine the optimal preparation design for partial coverage on upper premolars. Methods Fifty-two duplicated epoxy resin dies were prepared following vonlay and overlay preparation guidelines. For each preparation (n = 26), the specimens were divided into two subgroups to be restored with lithium disilicate (IPS e.max Press) or zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate (Vita Ambria) (n = 13 each). Ceramic vonlays and overlays were bonded using dual cure resin cement, subjected to thermomechanical fatigue, and the load to fracture was tested by using a universal testing machine. The specimens were fractographically analyzed via scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The normality of the fracture resistance data was checked using the Shapiro‒Wilk test and Q‒Q plots, and two-way ANOVA was used to assess the effect of the type of preparation and ceramic material on the fracture resistance. Abstract Background Echinometra mathaei (family Echinometridae), is one of the sea urchins widely distributed on the Egyptian coasts in the Red Sea. This organism contains edible and non-edible parts. The present study was carried out to analyze and identify the metabolites present in the non-edible parts (Aristotle's lantern and viscera) using LC/MS. Also, the cytotoxic activity on Vero cell line and antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 1 were evaluated using MTT colorimetric assay. Results Chemical profiling of the crude extracts of Aristotle's lantern and viscera using LC/MS indicated the presence of 51 and 59 compounds, respectively. The main metabolites present in both non-edible parts were phospholipids, amino acids, peptides, fatty acids and glycerol derivatives. However, the characteristic difference was the presence of carotenoid pigments only in viscera. The crude extract of Aristotle's lantern and viscera showed no cytotoxic activity on Vero cell line and significant antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus with an IC50 value equal to 115.48 ± 1.20 and 122.4 ± 0.50 µg/mL, respectively. Conclusions In the present study, the crude extracts of the non-edible parts of E. mathaei were analyzed using LC.MS.MS.QTOF and indicated the existence of 110 chemical compounds, with significant antiviral activity against HSV-1 and no cytotoxic activity. The diversity of the identified compounds with two main categories of compounds, phospholipids and peptides, may contribute to the antiviral activity of Aristotle's lantern and viscera. Additionally, this research focused on clarification of nutritive, pharmaceutical and economic values of these parts. As future prospects, further studies are required to isolate the metabolites and assess the detailed mechanism of antiviral activity via in vitro, in vivo and in silico studies.

The demonstrations, which were a reaction against the deterioration of the social, political, and economic conditions, were one of the largest events in contemporary Algerian history. These speeches embody strong connotations and literary and artistic meanings which align with many different aspects of life. Abstract. Background. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of a 4-week dutasteride treatment on reducing the intraoperative and postoperative bleeding, as well as the amount and duration of irrigation required to clear the urine after transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) ≥50 g in men receiving the antiplatelet drug (APD). Materials and methods. This double-blind randomized clinical trial included patients with a prostate size ≥50 g who were indicated for TURP and were already receiving APD. The study was conducted in the Urology Department of Cairo University over a 12-month period. Routine preoperative laboratory investigations were performed in all patients. Moreover, baseline prostate size, serum prostate-specific antigen level, and International Prostate Symptom Score were estimated. The patients were randomly divided into 2 equal groups (groups A and B). Group A, the dutasteride group, received dutasteride (0.5 mg) once daily for 4 weeks. Group B, the placebo group, received a placebo capsule once daily for 4 weeks. Both groups underwent bipolar TURP. Fifteen patients were excluded from the study; 9 patients from group A and 6 patients from group B, either due to drug intolerability or loss follow-up. Results. The mean blood loss was insignificant between the 2 groups immediately after and 24 hours after surgery (Δ hemoglobin: 1.41 ± 0.63 g/dL vs. 1.48 ± 0.54 g/dL, 2.12 ± 0.70 g/dL vs. 2.31 ± 0.78 g/dL, respectively, p = 0.631, p = 0.333; Δ hematocrit: 2.97% ± 1.51% vs. 3.16% ± 1.36%, 4.96% ± 1.87% vs. 5.73% ± 4.39%, respectively, p = 0.610, p = 0.380). However, there were significant differences in duration of indwelling urethral catheter (5.10 ± 0.55 days vs. 5.80 ± 1.79 days, p = 0.048), duration of bladder irrigation (13.60 ± 2.85 hours vs. 16.33 ± 6.62 hours, p = 0.044), and the amount of saline used for bladder irrigation (11.03 ± 2.30 L vs. 13.87 ± 6.13 L, p = 0.046) between group A and group B. respectively. Conclusions. Treatment with dutasteride for 4 weeks before TURP in men receiving APD did not significantly reduce intraoperative or postoperative bleeding after TURP but could significantly reduce the duration of indwelling catheter placement, as well as the duration and amount of saline irrigation.

This study conducted a detailed examination of the characteristics of hydroxyl‑terminated polybutadiene (HTPB) doped with potato starch nitrate (NPS) as a high-energy-density binder. The investigation specifically focused on evaluating the impact of NPS doping on the chemical structure, energetic attributes, and thermokinetic behavior of HTPB-NC binder systems. The findings demonstrated advantageous features, including favorable chemical compatibility, improved material density accompanied by remarkable thermal stability, substantial energy release, and high chemical reactivity. These findings contribute to the understanding of HTPB-NPS composite and offer evidence for its remarkable features, indicating promising prospects for its utilization in the development of advanced formulations for high-energy-density propellants in future applications.

The present work aims to study the effect of environmental hazards, namely, temperature and humidity, on the performance and sensitivity of tracer pyrotechnic composition. The experiments showed that the different pyrotechnic compositions, aged under different conditions, are prone to become more sensitive to impact and friction. It is also revealed that aging has a negative impact on luminous intensity for which the thermal aging declined the light intensity by 38.5%, while the moisture deteriorated it by 66%, compared to the pristine composition. The thermal analysis of the aged pyrotechnic compositions demonstrated a direct correlation between the heat of reactions and the magnesium content, the primary heat source, which decreases due to the formation of metal oxides (Mg(OH)2 and MgO) during the aging process. This investigation will certainly contribute to comprehensively understanding the degradation mechanism of tracer pyrotechnic compositions, and provide information on how the physical status of materials influences the luminosity, the sensitivity, and the heat of combustion reaction.

Hydrogen energy storage systems are becoming increasingly accepted owing to their environmental friendliness. The efficiency and performance of these systems largely depend on the attributes of their power electronic interface systems. Among the promising solutions is a multiport-isolated DC-DC converter with characteristics of reduced component count, fewer conversion stages, and galvanic isolation. However, this system presents a challenge due to its inherent cross-coupling effect, complicating precise control. To address this, linear active disturbance rejection control (LADRC) is a viable option, leveraging dynamic/disturbance properties observed by linear extended state observers. LADRC serves as a decoupling controller, mitigating the cross-coupling effect. However, LADRC has several gains, and selecting them can be a difficult task, often requiring manual tuning. To streamline this process, this paper proposes utilising particle swarm optimisation to determine the optimum gains of LADRC. By employing this approach, the implementation of LADRC is facilitated with reduced design efforts while ensuring effective decoupling control within the system. Simulations are conducted to validate the performance of the optimised gain LADRC.

Abstract The climate affects how a city’s outdoor spaces are utilized. It is more likely that people will use and appreciate public areas designed for pedestrian use, such as parks, squares, streets, and foot-cycle pathways, when they provide a comfortable and healthy environment. A predicted increase in global temperature has made the climate uncomfortable, especially during the summer when heat stress is strengthened and anticipated. This phenomenon is more severe in urban areas, often affected by the Urban Heat Island (UHI) effect. Since the spatial characteristics of a city influence its climate, urban design can be deployed to mitigate the combined effects of climate change and UHI. This research is conducted to study the UHI effect on thermal comfort in an urban open space in Rome (Italy) and aims at identifying and implementing a methodology that urban designers can follow to reduce the impact of urban heat islands and increase thermal comfort in urban outdoor space. This study is based on an urban design concept adopting the Sustainable Development Goals as guidelines; it investigates how UHI’s effect affects the use of public space and examines the influence of urban microclimatic conditions on the thermal perception of users through PET, PMV and PPD values, that were assessed through simulations with ENVI-MET software. The study thus proposes a redesign for the site in Rome, with a masterplan based on sustainable design principles, aimed at improving the microclimatic conditions in the site. The design solution was then validated through ex post simulations.

Abstract Background The characterization of pathologically enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes is clinically essential for effective disease management and accurate prognosis. Malignancy (metastases and lymphoma) and granulomatous conditions (sarcoidosis and tuberculosis) are the most common causes. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a good modality to characterize the mediastinal pathologically enlarged lymph nodes based on the excellent soft tissue contrast. It can save high-risk patients from radiation exposure and hazards of intervention such as general anesthesia and biopsy. Aim of the work To estimate the accuracy of different advanced MRI quantitative parameters in the differentiation between benign and malignant mediastinal lymphadenopathy. This would involve the lesion-to-cord signal intensity ratio (SIR) in the T2-WI and diffusion weighted image (DWI), the lesion-to-chest wall muscle SIR in T2-WI and DWI, and the mean apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values. These values would be correlated with the prospective pathological data and the results of the positron emission tomography (PET-CT). Results Prospectively, the study was conducted during the period between June 2022 and September 2023 on 45 patients with indeterminate or suspicious mediastinal lymphadenopathy identified by CT. MRI examination, PET-CT, and biopsy were applied for all patients. The intra-class correlation coefficient ranged between 0.89 and 0.95. (A) The lesion-to-cord SIR in T2-WI in the malignant group (1.49 ± 0.30) was higher than that in the benign group (0.83 ± 0.24) with P 1.2) estimated 90% sensitivity, 100% specificity, with AUC = 0.989. In the pursuit of advancing imidazolium-based energetic ionic liquids (EILs), the current study is devoted to the synthesis and characterization of 1,3-dibutyl-imidazolium azide ([BBIm][N3]), as a novel member in this ionic liquids class. The chemical structure of this EIL was rigorously characterized and confirmed using FTIR spectroscopy, 1D, and 2D-NMR analyses. The thermal behavior assessment was conducted through DSC and TGA experiments. DSC analysis revealed an endothermic glass transition at Tg=–61 °C, followed by an exothermic degradation event at Tonset=311 °C. Similarly, TGA thermograms exhibited a one-stage decomposition process resulting in 100% mass loss of the sample. Furthermore, the short-term thermal stability of the azide EIL was investigated by combining the non-isothermal TGA data with the TAS, it-KAS, and VYA/CE isoconversional kinetic approaches. Consequently, the Arrhenius parameters (Ea=154 kJ·mol-1, Log(A/s-1))=11.8) and the most probable reaction model g(α) were determined. The observed high decomposition temperatures and the significantly elevated activation energy affirm the enhanced thermal stability of the modified EIL. These findings revealed that [BBIm][N3] EIL can be a promising candidate for advanced energetic material application.

Abstract Early fault detection and diagnosis of grid-connected photovoltaic systems (GCPS) is imperative to improve their performance and reliability. Low-cost edge devices have emerged as innovative solutions for real-time monitoring, reducing latency, and improving response times. In this work, a lightweight Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) is designed and fine-tuned using Energy Valley Optimizer (EVO) for fault diagnosis. The CNN input consists of two-dimensional scalograms generated using Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT). The proposed diagnosis technique demonstrated superior performance compared to benchmark architectures, namely MobileNet, NASNetMobile, and InceptionV3, achieving higher test accuracies and lower losses on binary and multi-fault classification tasks on balanced, unbalanced, and noisy datasets. Further, a quantitative comparison is conducted with similar recent studies. The obtained results indicate good performance and high reliability of the proposed fault diagnosis method.

Abstract Background To assess the association between various systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) disease manifestations, SLE disease activity index 2000 (SLEDAI-2K), systemic lupus international collaborating clinics/American College of Rheumatology Damage Index (SLICC/ACR- SDI) and serum levels of Slit2 in SLE patients. Results The mean age of SLE patients was 31.12 ± 8.68 years while the age at onset was 26.05 ± 7.60 years. Female: male was 9 vs 1. The mean serum levels of Slit2 in SLE patients were significantly higher than the controls (0.55 ± 0.25 vs 0.42 ± 0.15) (P = 0.013). There was no significant difference in Slit2 levels between patients with active vs inactive SLE (P = 0.353) or between patients with and without lupus nephritis (P = 0.900). An insignificant difference in Slit2 levels was found among SLE patients using SDI (P = 0.982). No significant correlations were observed between the serum Slit2 and SLE patients’ demographics, laboratory data, SLEDAI-2K, and SDI except for a positive correlation with platelets and a negative correlation with serum albumin. ROC curve analysis showed that at a cutoff value of 0.44, the area under the curve was 0.677 (95% CI 0.538–0.816, P = 0.013) with a sensitivity of 74%, specificity of 56%, and accuracy of 68%. Conclusion While we observed elevated serum Slit2 levels in SLE patients, there was no significant correlation observed between serum Slit2 levels and SLE clinical manifestations, disease activity, or damage index. Abstract Purpose Financial inclusion aims to provide affordable financial services, including banking, loans, equity, and insurance products, to underserved populations. This study aims to examine the moderating effect of a bank’s capital adequacy ratio (CAR) on the nexus between financial inclusion (FI) and a bank’s financial performance (FP) in the Egyptian setting. Design/methodology/approach The study uses two empirical linear mixed models (LMM) to test the moderation effect of a bank’s CAR on the association between FI and FP. The study sample comprises 360 bank quarter-observations of 10 listed banks in the Egyptian Stock Exchange (EGX) from 2013 to 2021. Findings The findings show that the bank’s CAR strengthens the association between FI dimensions, namely, deposit growth, loan growth, and the number of employees, and the bank’s FP with contradicted directions. Research limitations/implications This study provides policymakers insights into the crucial role of complying with banking regulation, namely, the capital adequacy ratio (CAR) and expanding financial inclusion practices to enhance and improve the bank’s FP. Thus, encouraging more strategies and facilities toward financial inclusion. Originality/value Due to the scarcity of financial inclusion literature in emerging economies, this paper extends FI literature by highlighting the moderation impact of a bank’s CAR on the relationship between FI dimensions and FP in the Egyptian banking sector. Consequently, this study clarifies this beneficial relationship, which may have significant implications for restoring the challenges faced by the Egyptian economy following the critical events it went through, which, in turn, impacted the country’s poor and vulnerable.

Abstract Background Vaccination of healthcare workers (HCWs) is pivotal in decreasing the incidence of contagious infections in hospital settings. In this study, we assessed the knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding HCWs’ recommended vaccines among medical students and interns in Egypt. Methods A multicenter, cross-sectional study was conducted using a structured, pilot-tested, and self-administered questionnaire among Egyptian medical students and interns. We invited 1332 participants to our survey using a systematic random sampling that included participants across nine medical schools in Egypt during the 2021–2022 academic year. Results Out of 1332 participants, 1141 completed our questionnaire with a response rate of 85.7%. Overall, 43% of the participants had intermediate knowledge (knew 2–3 HCWs’ recommended vaccines). Furthermore, 36.7% had received a booster dose of at least one of the HCWs’ recommended vaccines over the last 10 years, with only 6.1% having received all recommended vaccines. Hepatitis B vaccine was the most widely known (71%) and received (66.7%). Interns were more likely to know, receive, and recommend HCWs’ recommended vaccines. The majority (> 90%) agreed that vaccination is beneficial and safe, with a median score of eight (interquartile range [IQR: Q25-Q75]: 7–9) out of ten for vaccine efficacy and eight (IQR: 7–8) for safety. However, the median score for hesitancy was five (IQR: 2–7). The most common influential and limiting factors for vaccination were scientific facts (60.1%) and fear of vaccine side effects (44.9%). Conclusion Although medical students in Egypt have good knowledge of and attitudes towards vaccination, there is a gap in their practices. Interventions are needed to improve vaccination uptake among medical students in Egypt.

Associations amongst selected variables were tested at bivariate and multivariate levels.Results: Of the 383 participants enrolled in the study, 49.6% were dispensers. More dispensers (49.0%, 92/188) favored 1 on 1 discussion whereas prescribers (32.0%, 61/191) preferred continuous medical education. Most dispensers (85.6%, 161/188) and prescribers (68.6%, 131/191) reported that drug promotion influences their choice of drug use, with most (dispensers: 85.1%, 160/188 vs prescribers: 72.3%, 1/191) admittedly relying on drug promotion as their primary source of drug information.Conclusion: Pharmaceutical drug promotion influences prescription and dispensing practices among health workers, and it should be strictly regulated to ensure accurate and essential information for health workers while prioritizing rational use of medicines.Keywords: pharmaceutical industry, drug promotion, rational prescribing, rational dispensing

Abstract The novelty of this study lies in demonstrating a new approach to control wilt diseases using Jania ethyl acetate extract. In the current investigation, the potential impacts of Jania sp. ethyl acetate extract (JE) on Tomato Fusarium oxysporum wilt (FOW) have been studied. The in vitro antifungal potential of JE against F. oxysporum (FO) was examined. GC–MS investigation of the JE revealed that, the compounds possessing fungicidal action were Phenol,2-methoxy-4-(2-propenyl)-,acetate, Eugenol, Caryophyllene oxide, Isoespintanol, Cadinene, Caryophylla-4(12),8(13)-dien-5à-ol and Copaen. Jania sp. ethyl acetate extract exhibited strong antifungal potential against FO, achieving a 20 mmzone of inhibition. In the experiment, two different methods were applied: soil irrigation (SI) and foliar application (FS) of JE. The results showed that both treatments reduced disease index present DIP by 20.83% and 33.33% respectively. The findings indicated that during FOW, proline, phenolics, and the antioxidant enzymes activity increased, while growth and photosynthetic pigments decreased. The morphological features, photosynthetic pigments, total phenol content, and antioxidant enzyme activity of infected plants improved when JE was applied through soil or foliar methods. It is interesting to note that the application of JE had a substantially less negative effect on the isozymes peroxidase and polyphenol oxidase in tomato plants, compared to FOW. These reactions differed depending on whether JE was applied foliarly or via the soil. Finally, the use of Jania sp. could be utilized commercially as an ecologically acceptable method to protect tomato plants against FOW.

Integration of the internet of things (IoT) and robotics into the internet of robotic things (IoRT) presents inherent security and trust challenges. This article introduces an innovative blockchain-centred framework designed to address these challenges. By harnessing the features of oneM2M and blockchain technology, the architecture enhances accessibility, security and data management within IoRT. Encompassing key aspects such as data flow, user authentication, health data management and security, the proposed framework ensures compliance with the oneM2M standard. A notable contribution is the integration of a private blockchain network on ZedBoard development boards, focusing on access control and data integrity verification. External IoT data are securely transmitted to a cloud platform hosted on AWS, ensuring streamlined data management with minimal impact on the resources of ZedBoards. In a stride towards bolstering IoRT security, the study implements elliptic curve digital signature algorithm (ECDSA) with Radix-2w optimizations on ZedBoards, demonstrating a significant 58.63% reduction in addition operation costs compared to standard ECDSA. The practical implementation on ZedBoards validates the effectiveness of this approach, offering a comprehensive solution for securing IoRT networks. This research caters to industries relying on the seamless integration of IoT and robotics, concluding with noteworthy findings and suggesting potential avenues for future research, including optimizations in hardware/software co-design for ECDSA on Zynq boards.

Abstract Background Despite the advancement of reconstructive surgical techniques, facial defect reconstruction has been always very challenging, aesthetic satisfaction has often been difficult to achieve due to the unique characteristics and complexity of the facial tissue. There have been various options regarding reconstruction and compensation of soft tissue loss all over the body rather than the face. Regardless of whether skin grafts, local flaps, and free flaps were used in the reconstruction process, each of them has its limitations. Beginning with skin grafts results could not always be satisfactory due to contracture, color, and lack of texture Additionally, local flaps have limitations due to mobility and the availability of overlapping skin and tissue, as well as the bulkiness of the pedicle which may need a second staged surgery and lately the difficulty of the free flaps and being a major surgery. Results Patients ages ranged between 23 and 77 years old, with a mean age of 58.33 ± 12.47. As regards the patients’ sex, 63.3% of our patients were males and 36.7% were females. Co-morbidities were found in 60% of cases (DM 23.3%, HTN 20%, HCV 3.3%, cardiac 3.3%). Most flaps were facial artery perforator flaps 53.3%, then transverse facial artery 26.7%, superficial temporal artery 10%, angular artery 6.7%, and supra-trochlear artery 3.3%. Twenty-ix cases representing 86.7% of cases went uneventful, while complications showed in 4 cases representing 13.3% of cases, 1 case (3.3%) showed venous congestion that was relieved within 24 h after 2 suture releases, another case (3.3%) showed wound dehiscence that was improved after 2 days with regular dressings, the third patient (3.3%) had recurrence after 4 months that was treated by excision and grafting, while last patient (3.3%) had inadequate excision that was treated by radiotherapy. No bleeding or infection occurred. Also, we observed no correlation between flap length and complications. As regards the functional point of view, all patients showed no functional impairment at the donor site, and only one case showed functional impairment at the recipient site. As regards patient satisfaction, all 30 patients achieved positive satisfaction scores using the Likert scale, 18 cases were satisfied, and 12 cases were very satisfied. Conclusion The use of perforator-based flaps can provide a more effective and aesthetically pleasing solution for the reconstruction of small to moderate facial defects, provided that a reliable Perforator is accurately identified and executed by an experienced surgeon.

Abstract This paper presents a comparative study between four techniques recently used to improve the wind energy conversion system (WECS) to water pumping systems. The WECS is a renewable energy source which has developed rapidly in recent years. The use of the WECS in the water pumping field is a free solution (economically) compared to the use of the electricity grid supply. The control of WECS, equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous generator, has the objective of carefully maximising power generation. A comparative study between the proposed Fuzzy Logic Control, optimised using a genetic algorithm and particle swarm optimisation algorithm, and the conventional Perturb and Observe MPPT method using Matlab/Simulink, is presented. The performance of the proposed system has been verified against the generated output voltage, current and power waveforms, intermediate circuit voltage waveform, and generator speed. The presented results demonstrate the effectiveness of the control strategy applied in this work.

Abstract Background Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) is a promising opportunity crop for arid regions of Africa due to its high tolerance to drought and heat stresses. Screening for genetic variability in photosynthetic regulation under salt stress can help to identify target trait combinations essential for sorghum genetic improvement. The primary objective of this study was to identify reliable indicators of photosynthetic performance under salt stress for forage yield within a panel of 18 sorghum varieties from stage 1 (leaf 3) to stage 7 (late flowering to early silage maturity). We dissected the genetic diversity and variability in five stress-sensitive photosynthetic parameters: nonphotochemical chlorophyll fluorescence quenching (NPQ), the electron transport rate (ETR), the maximum potential quantum efficiency of photosystem II (FV/FM), the CO2 assimilation rate (A), and the photosynthetic performance based on absorption (PIABS). Further, we investigated potential genes for target phenotypes using a combined approach of bioinformatics, transcriptional analysis, and homologous overexpression. Results The panel revealed polymorphism, two admixed subpopulations, and significant molecular variability between and within population. During the investigated development stages, the PIABS varied dramatically and consistently amongst varieties. Under higher saline conditions, PIABS also showed a significant positive connection with A and dry matter gain. Because PIABS is a measure of plants’ overall photosynthetic performance, it was applied to predict the salinity performance index (SPI). The SPI correlated positively with dry matter gain, demonstrating that PIABS could be used as a reliable salt stress performance marker for forage sorghum. Eight rubisco large subunit genes were identified in-silico and validated using qPCR with variable expression across the varieties under saline conditions. Overexpression of Rubisco Large Subunit 8 increased PIABS, altered the OJIP, and growth with an insignificant effect on A. Conclusions These findings provide insights into strategies for enhancing the photosynthetic performance of sorghum under saline conditions for improved photosynthetic performance and potential dry matter yield. The integration of molecular approaches, guided by the identified genetic variability, holds promise for genetically breeding sorghum tailored to thrive in arid and saline environments, contributing to sustainable agricultural practices.

Abstract Bosentan is a drug used to treat pulmonary hypertension via dual endothelial receptor antagonism. Bosentan has a restricted oral bioavailability, a problem that's mostly due to poor solubility and hepatic metabolism. It is extensively used for the elderly and children who require a friendly dosage form like orodispersible tablets. So, the goal of this research work was to hasten the dissolution rate of bosentan to produce an orodispersible tablet with immediate drug release. Bosentan was exposed to ethanol-assisted kneading with a rise of xylitol or menthol concentrations (1:1 and 1:2 molar ratio of bosentan with excipient). In addition to observing the dissolution behavior, the resulting dry products were investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential thermal analysis (DTA), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The FTIR reflected possible hydrogen bonding with xylitol and menthol. DSC studies reflected a reduction in the enthalpy and Tm. These results with XRD data reflected partial co-amorphization in the case of xylitol and eutaxia in the case of menthol. These modifications were related to an accelerated dissolving rate. The developed systems were fabricated as orodispersible tablets which exhibited immediate release of bosentan. Thus, the current study offered simple co-processing for the preparation of orodispersible bosentan tablets.

Root knot nematode (RKN), Meloidogyne incognita, is considered a major soil-borne pathogen that can cause severe yield losses for vegetables and diverse crops. Usually, reducing of M. incognita damage is mainly relies on the application of nematicides and good agricultural practices. However, the use of synthetic nematicides is restricted due to concerns about their impact on the environment and human health. As a result, the use of alternative strategies is becoming necessary to combat RKN resistance. This study evaluates the antagonistic impact of the root mutualistic fungus Pirforomospora indica on M. incognita. It also assesses its influence on the nutritional status, photo-synthesis, antioxidant enzyme activity, endogenous abscisic acid (ABA) levels, and selected ABA related-responsive genes in cucumber plants. Roots of cucumber seedlings were inoculated with P. indica and the second-stage juveniles (1000 J2 per plant). The results demonstrated that P. indica significantly reduced M. incognita invasion in roots, resulting in a 24% reduction in root galling and 42.6% decline in final population. Inoculating plants with both P. indica and RKN increased performance of root fresh and dry weight, as well as improved photochemical efficiency of PSII (Fv/Fm), photosystem II efficiency (PSII), catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), and superoxide dis-mutase (SOD). Furthermore, P. indica colonization, either alone or in combination with M. incognita, significantly improved number of fruits per plant, average fruit weight, the plant's marketable yield, and leaf nutrient content (N, P, K and Mg), Moreover, there was an increase in IAA content combined with a decrease in ABA content in roots of dual inoculation plants, if compared to M. incognita infested plants. The highest ABA content was recorded in the root of RKN-cucumber plants. The decline in ABA content due to P. indica treatment was consistent with the modulation of ABA pathway genes, specifically PP2C, PYL1, RK2,1, and RK2,2. The mixed of P. indica and M. incognita led to a decrease in the expression of PP2C, PLY1, RK2,1, and RK2,2 in comparison to the control group. These results indicate that P. indica application could help reduce the negative effects of RKN on important crops.

Cystic hydatid disease is an endemic disease caused by the larval form of Echinococcus granulosis. It is especially evident in the liver, lungs, and kidney. Testicular hydatidosis is extremely rare. A case of a hydatid cyst of the testis is reported that was misdiagnosed clinically as a testicular hydrocele. Echinococcosis should be considered in the differential diagnosis of testicular masses especially in endemic countries. Treatment is mainly surgical and, with proper diagnosis and treatment, the prognosis is good.

The present study aims to elucidate the decomposition mechanism and gas evolution characteristics of a promising energy-rich carbamated microcrystalline cellulose nitrate (M3CN). The molecular structure and morphological characteristics of starting microcrystalline cellulose carbamate (MCCC) and its nitrated derivative were examined using FTIR and SEM techniques. Thermal analysis using TGA and DSC revealed distinct decomposition behaviors for MCCC and M3CN. MCCC exhibited endothermic decomposition linked to the degradation of the cellulosic structure. In contrast, an exothermic decomposition event was observed for M3CN, attributed to the cleavage of energetic groups within the nitrated cellulosic chains. Furthermore, the hyphenated TG-FTIR analysis confirmed that the primary gaseous products emitted during the pyrolysis of M3CN included NO, N2O, NO2, CO2, H2O, CH4, HCHO, HCN, and CHNO. The findings of this study enhance our understanding of the pyrolysis mechanism in cellulose-based energetic materials, providing a significant reference for forthcoming research and explorations in this field.

ABSTRACTBackground Child discipline practices are the methods used by parents to prevent future unwanted behavior in children. Child discipline practices involve non-violent and violent. Violent discipline is a pervasive problem across Egypt shaped by many factors and has many negative consequences. This study attempted to measure the prevalence of child discipline practices among mothers in Alexandria and their associated maternal psychosocial profile of mothers.Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted to interview a sample of 275 mothers at eight family health units and centers in Alexandria using interview format to collect personal and socio-demographic data in addition to The Arabic version of the parent form of Conflict Tactics Scales Parent-Child (CTSPC) form and The Arabic Version of Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS).Results The study revealed that 25.09% of studied mothers were using nonviolent discipline practices (NVDP) only, while 74.18% were using psychological, physical, or severe physical violence with or without using NVDP.A significantly higher percentage of mothers who use NVDP are of high socioeconomic status compared to the other group (73.9% compared to 17.6%), they scored normal on the three domains of DASS compared to the other group (76.8% compared to 30.5% on depression domain, 72.5% compared to 14.7% on anxiety domain and 60.9% compared for 18.6% on stress domain).

Background: Endophytic fungi produce biologically robust metabolites suitable for diverse applications, which support the increasing exploration of these fungi. The study aimed to investigate the in vitro antimicrobial properties of the metabolites of endophytic fungus Aspergillus terreus which isolated from the leaves of Psidium guajava plants while the acute oral toxicity was assessed in vivo. Results: A. terreus (OR125572) was successfully isolated for the first time from P. guajava. The ethyl acetate extract of A. terreus exhibited antibactericidal effects against Enterobacter aerogenes with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 18.75 mg/ml in contrast to 75.00 ± 0.0, 37.50, and 37.50 mg/ml, respectively against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Bacillus sphaericus were 75.00 ± 0.0, 37.50, and 37.50 mg/ml, respectively. Analysis of the crude extract obtained from A. terreus by GC-MS revealed a total of 32 distinct compounds. The major components included 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid, di-iso-octyl ester; hexyl oxecan-2-one and phenol. The acute oral toxicity study found no symptoms of toxicity and no mortality until the 14th d, suggesting that the LD50 value of A. terreus extract might exceed 1 ml/kg. The group receiving 0.5 ml/kg of A. terreus extract experienced a 42.9% increase in body weight, while administration of varying dosages resulted in a significant reduction in MCV levels. There was also a significant increase in the proportion of monocytes across all treated groups. In real life, managing oil inventory is crucial for industries where factors like gradual deterioration, demand fluctuations due to advertising and pricing, and sensitivity to inflation require sophisticated inventory models to optimize replenishment policies and minimize costs. Context: Mentha species are well known for their health benefits. Products extracted from aromatic plants of this genus (Mentha) are increasingly being studied for their active constituents in order to replace synthetic products that are harmful to health. Aims: To determine the chemical composition, physicochemical parameters, and antioxidant properties of essential oils of M. spicata, M. piperita, and M. pulegium. These plants were collected from three different geographical areas in the Rabat-Sale-Kenitra region of Morocco, with an additional focus on analyzing the fluctuation of their chemical composition based on their locations. Methods: Essential oils obtained through hydrodistillation of the fresh aerial parts of the plants were analyzed via gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The antioxidant capacity was measured by several chemical tests: DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP. Results: Multiple major components were identified, showcasing variations in composition between species as well as between plants of the same species. M. spicata was characterized by carvone, piperitone, 1,3,8-p-menthatriene; while M. piperita features linalool, D-carvone, 1,3,8-p-menthatriene; and M. pulegium had a single major component which is pulegone. To the best of our knowledge, it is assumed that a new set of chemotypes may be defined based on the geographical regions studied. The examined essential oils demonstrated notable antioxidant efficacy. Conclusions: These findings suggest the potential use of extracts from these plants as an alternative to synthetic chemical products. Therefore, they could find applications in complementary medicine as well as in the pharmaceutical and food industries.

Introduction/purpose: During their lifetime, ships and aircraft are subjected to severe service and aerodynamic loads that can cause structural damage and cracking. These cracks grow and propagate over time. Extending the life of a damaged structure is a very important area of research. In this context, the repair of composite panels is recommended to restore the performance of cracked structures. Methods: In order to minimize the concentration of stresses at the bottom of a crack, to stop and even to delay the propagation of this crack, this study seeks to propose a two-dimensional analysis by the software ANSYS to predict the effect of the propagation of a possible crack on the nonlinear behavior of cracked stiffened composite panels. Results: The results from this analysis will be a very good reference for improving performance and repairing cracked composite panels using stiffeners. Conclusion: It is recommended to provide patches for repairing cracked panels based on the modeling given in this study.

Abstract This study introduces an experimental investigation of a novel direct trend evaporative cooler based on a ground-air heat exchanger (GAHE) using porous clay vessels as an evaporation media under a variety of operational conditions, including air flow rate, inlet air temperature, temperature of inlet water, and in air humidity. The evaluation of the GAHE performance was based on the air-cooling effect, wet-bulb and dew-point efficiencies, energy efficiency ratio, water evaporation rate, specific water evaporation, specific cooling capacity, specific total cost, and CO2 emission rate. The influences of dry-bulb temperature, the incoming air's relative humidity (RH), and six air flow rates ranging from 11 to 25 L/s on the performance are investigated and discussed. Results indicated that increasing the air flow rate leads to an increase in the cooling capacity. Energy efficiency ratio (EER) reaches the highest value of about 25.5 recorded at 3:00 PM with air flow rate = 11 L/s. The lowest EER value is approximately 7.2 when the measured inlet and outlet temperatures are the closest at 7:00 PM, with a flow rate of 25 L/s. Increasing the air flow rate from 11 to 17 L/s increased the wet bulb efficiency, and the airflow rate was inversely proportional to wet-bulb efficiency. The maximum and minimum average dew-point efficiencies are 64% and 58% at 17 L/s and 22 L/s respectively. The water evaporation rate increases by 182.1%, increasing the air flow rate from 11 to 25 L/s.

Abstract Background Hemogram indices are simple, economic indicators of the systemic inflammation characteristic of autoimmune diseases including vasculitides. The clinical utility of hemogram indices in hepatitis C virus-related vasculitis (HCV-V) has not been established. This study aimed to evaluate neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), neutrophil/hemoglobin ratio (NHR), platelet/hemoglobin ratio (PHR), and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) as potential biomarkers of HCV-V, and their relationship with disease activity. This cross-sectional case–control study was conducted in the departments of Rheumatology and Rehabilitation and Hepatogastroenterology, at Cairo University Hospital. Patients with HCV-V, patients with HCV infection free from extrahepatic manifestations (HCV sine vasculitis), and healthy control subjects were recruited. HCV-V activity was assessed using the Birmingham Vasculitis Activity Score (BVAS). Results Twenty-four HCV-V patients, 21 HCV sine vasculitis patients, and 40 healthy controls were recruited. Age and sex distribution was similar across groups. One of the biggest problems that threaten the production of strawberry in the world is the rapid damage and high rate of deterioration after harvest or during cold storage. Therefore, the current study was conducted to investigate the possibility of decreasing the post-harvest damage percentages and increasing the fruit quality of Fragaria x ananassa cv. ‘Estavana’ after harvest immediately or during the cold storage period. The strawberry plants were dipped for 3 to 5 minutes at 25 °C in a solution of 10 L made from distilled water and containing salicylic acid (SA) at 0, 250, 500, and 1000 mg/L or chitosan (CHIT) at 0, 2.5, 5, and 10 mg/L during the period of 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, and 16 days after harvesting. The results showed that the fruit firmness was notably decreased, and the loss and decay percentages were increased by increasing the period of storage, but it could be decreased by using SA or CHIT. Fruit content from soluble solids, total sugars and anthocyanin was significantly increased in the 16 days stored fruits treated with 500 mg/L SA or 50mg/L CHIT. Treating the fresh harvested without or with SA or CHIT increased the fruit content from vitamin C. The highest fruit content from titratable acidity was in the fresh harvested fruits compared with treated fruits with SA or CHIT.

Water erosion remains the main form of land degradation globally, with a particularly high sensitivity in Morocco. This study aims to assess and map areas at risk of water erosion in the Tamdroust watershed (Settat Plateau, Morocco) using the PAP/RAC model combined with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing. This comprehensive approach integrates several factors influencing erosion, such as topography, lithology, vegetation density, and land use, to identify erosion-prone areas. The methodology comprises three phases.The first, "predictive" phase generates a synthesized map illustrating the distribution of erosion states. The second phase spatializes different forms of erosion. Finally, the third phase integrates the results of the first two phases. The first phase reveals an abundance of moderate erosion covering 52% of the area, with significant erosion observed in about 7% of the watershed, indicating a trend towards increased erosion without intervention. The subsequent phases identified several forms of erosion such as sheet erosion, gully erosion, solifluction, and Badlands, mainly in areas with steep slopes and low vegetation cover. These results underline the need for interventions to prevent further deterioration of the Tamdroust watershed, highlighting the importance of sustainable land and water resource management in the region.

Abstract Introduction Magnesium sulfate is the most utilized anticonvulsant for treating patients with eclampsia and pre-eclampsia. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the 12-h regimen of magnesium sulfate outweighs the 24-h regimen in both efficacy and safety in the management of patients with mild or severe pre-eclampsia and eclampsia. Methods We searched six electronic databases: PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Ovid, and Google Scholar. This search was conducted to yield any studies that were published until 15 January 2023. We did the statistical analysis plan by Review Manager Software version 5.4. Results We included 13 randomized control trials with 2813 patients in this systematic review. Our meta-analysis revealed that there were no statistically significant differences between the 12-h regimen of the magnesium sulfate group and the 24-h regimen of the magnesium sulfate group in our outcome of interest: occurrence of seizure (RD: -0.00, 95% CI [-0.01, 0.00], P = 0.56), diminished deep tendon reflexes (RD: -0.00, 95% CI [-0.01, 0.01], P = 0.80), respiratory depression (RD: -0.00, 95% CI [-0.02, 0.01], P = 0.57), and pulmonary edema (RD: -0.00, 95% CI [-0.01, 0.01], P = 0.85). Conclusion Our study showed no statistically significant difference in effectiveness and toxicity risk between the 12-h and 24-h regimens.
