The paper deals with the economic measurements of the market value of enterprise assets, which are of great importance for their effective management. The use of more accurate economic measurements is an integral part of an optimal strategy to manage business assets. Therefore, reduction of evaluation results uncertainty is a necessary condition for effective management. To achieve mentioned goals, the paper aims to determine the mathematical base for the assets valuation methodology of value/depreciation that change over time, which can be applied to its dynamic objective quantitative analysis. The basic hypothesis suggests that all tangible assets, characterized by removable depreciation, are inclined to a negative periodic depreciation during short inter-service periods when remedial repair works are carried out to eliminate depreciation. The methodical approaches concerning a mathematical description of assets value/depreciation dynamics are considered. It is shown that both traditional, progressive and regressive value/depreciation dynamics models change over time. They do not correspond to the actual state since they do not take into account increased objects value and negative periodic depreciation. To evaluate value/depreciation change over time more precisely, a new kind of mathematical model is proposed, which equations take into account the opposite signs of periodic depreciation during operational service periods and non-operational inter-service periods. It is proved that the actual indicators of fair market value and periodic depreciation of enterprise assets can be determined with higher reliability based on a new mathematical model. Ensuring safe and clean drinking water for communities is crucial, and necessitates effective tools to monitor and predict water quality due to challenges from population growth, industrial activities, and environmental pollution. This paper evaluates the performance of multiple linear regression (MLR) and nineteen machine learning (ML) models, including algorithms based on regression, decision tree, and boosting. Models include linear regression (LR), least angle regression (LAR), Bayesian ridge chain (BR), ridge regression (Ridge), k-nearest neighbor regression (K-NN), extra tree regression (ET), and extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost). The research’s objective is to estimate the surface water quality of Al-Seine Lake in Lattakia governorate using the MLR and ML models. We used water quality data from the drinking water lake of Lattakia City, Syria, during years 2021–2022 to determine the water quality index (WQI). The predictive performance of both the MLR and ML models was evaluated using statistical methods such as the coefficient of determination (R2) and the root mean square error (RMSE) to estimate their efficiency. The results indicated that the MLR model and three of the ML models, namely linear regression (LR), least angle regression (LAR), and Bayesian ridge chain (BR), performed well in predicting the WQI. The MLR model had an R2 of 0.999 and an RMSE of 0.149, while the three ML models had an R2 of 1.0 and an RMSE of approximately 0.0. These results support using both MLR and ML models for predicting the WQI with very high accuracy, which will contribute to improving water quality management.

Abstract The field of transdisciplinary sustainability research has brought forward a number of approaches aimed at fostering sustainability transformations and generating knowledge through collaborative experimentation in real-world settings. These cases are strongly embedded in their local context and thus the transfer of knowledge remains a key challenge. In this paper, we propose a case reporting approach that supports the structured and coherent reporting of such cases. This scheme is aimed at sustainability-oriented labs, where sustainability solutions are collaboratively developed through experimentation. The scheme focuses the reporting on local contexts, lab processes, and experiments. It is accompanied by a logic model and a set of four principles guiding the reporting procedure. The approach is designed to be general, in that it is applicable to diverse contexts and project designs, while its modularity allows the scheme to be adapted to the needs and specifics of each cases. The scheme was jointly developed and tested by a group of seven Urban Living Labs, each in their own unique context. With our approach we aim to contribute to knowledge transfer from and across cases of sustainability-oriented labs as emerging approaches in action-oriented research bridging the divide of case-based research and (meta) comparison.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of the main greenhouse gases and has become a major concern as its concentration has been growing in recent years. Satellite remote sensing is an efficient way to monitor CO2 in the atmosphere, and several satellites are already used for CO2 monitoring. It is imperative to investigate the spatial coverage and spatio-temporal trends of satellite products, as well as identify the satellites with higher levels of accuracy. Additionally, examining the disparities between the older and new generations of satellites would be meaningful. Therefore, this paper provides a comprehensive evaluation and inter-comparison for the commonly used satellite column-averaged dry-air mole fraction of CO2 (XCO2) products. Specifically, the temporal trends and monthly coverage of the Greenhouse Gases Observing SATellite (GOSAT), Greenhouse Gases Observing SATellite-2 (GOSAT-2), Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 (OCO-2), Orbiting Carbon Observatory-3 (OCO-3), and SCanning Imaging Absorption spectroMeter for Atmospheric CartograpHY (SCIAMACHY) are investigated. The accuracy of these satellite products is evaluated and analyzed based on Total Carbon Column Observing Network (TCCON) data. The results indicate that the XCO2 of all the satellite products show a year-by-year increase, with seasonal periodicity. In terms of overall accuracy, the OCO series satellites exhibit a slightly higher level of accuracy compared to the GOSAT series. The products of the new generation of satellites are less stable than those of the older generation, probably due to the impacts of the inversion algorithm and platforms.

Consequently, students have resorted to rote memorization to cope, which counteracts our established collaborative self-directed learning model.Methods: For a 6-week musculoskeletal anatomy course, two structured case-based review sessions are described, each following the completion of two five-hour lab sessions, two on the upper extremities and two on the lower extremities. These largely self-directed review sessions consisted of 6 students rotating through 7 to 8 stations every 10 minutes where clinical cases with follow-up questions were projected on large screens. The students were expected to work collaboratively to solve the cases utilizing the prosected specimens provided and discuss the accompanying answers at the end of each case.Results: Ninety-four per cent of the students who participated in this study agreed that the case-based review sessions provided a helpful overview of musculoskeletal anatomy content. Student performance on the open-ended, case-based musculoskeletal examination questions showed no significant difference in performance on shoulder, hand, hip, thigh, and leg questions. There was, however, a statistically significant decrease in the students’ scores on a forearm question in 2021 compared to 2019.Conclusion: This paper describes our integrated, collaborative musculoskeletal course, including case-based review sessions, which was positively received by students as having value in reviewing the musculoskeletal content though it was not found to improve examination performance.Keywords: musculoskeletal, anatomy, integrated curriculum, review, consolidation, evaluation

This paper analyzes the relationship between proportional reasoning and understanding fair games in Costa Rican students. We conducted a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the answers to six items on comparing ratios of increasing difficulty level and another item on prize estimation in a fair game. We describe the strategies employed and the semiotic conflicts detected in 292 Costa Rican students from Grades 6 to 10 (11-16-year-olds), comparing the findings with those established in previous research. The results show an increase in the level of proportional reasoning with the grade, although the age at which the higher levels are reached is lower than that assumed by Noelting. The percentage of students applying correct strategies in the fair game problem also increases with grade, and a relationship between the understanding of fair game and the level of proportional reasoning is observed.

Abstract Using a rich and unique combined administrative-survey dataset, this paper explores how sensitive propensity score (PS) matching estimates of Active Labor Market Policies (ALMPs) based on the selection-on-observables assumption are to typically unobserved covariates. Using a sample of German unemployed welfare recipients, the analysis shows that typically unobserved factors such job search behavior, concessions willing to make for a job as well as (mental) health are in fact relevant confounders. However, results also show that matching on the PS using only typically observed covariates reduces imbalance in terms of typically unobserved covariates by about 46 percent in this setting. In line with this finding, the inclusion of typically unobserved covariates yields very similar estimates to estimates based on a standard specification. Hence, a standard matching approach based on rich and high quality administrative data appears to be sufficient to obtain estimates that are rather robust to unobserved confounding.

Abstract Background The growth of data science and artificial intelligence offers novel healthcare applications and research possibilities. Patients should be able to make informed choices about using healthcare. Therefore, they must be provided with lay information about new technology. A team consisting of academic researchers, health professionals, and public contributors collaboratively co-designed and co-developed the new resource offering that information. In this paper, we evaluate this novel approach to co-production. Methods We used participatory evaluation to understand the co-production process. This consisted of creative approaches and reflexivity over three stages. Firstly, everyone had an opportunity to participate in three online training sessions. The first one focused on the aims of evaluation, the second on photovoice (that included practical training on using photos as metaphors), and the third on being reflective (recognising one’s biases and perspectives during analysis). During the second stage, using photovoice, everyone took photos that symbolised their experiences of being involved in the project. This included a session with a professional photographer. At the last stage, we met in person and, using data collected from photovoice, built the mandala as a representation of a joint experience of the project. This stage was supported by professional artists who summarised the mandala in the illustration. Results The mandala is the artistic presentation of the findings from the evaluation. It is a shared journey between everyone involved. We divided it into six related layers. Starting from inside layers present the following experiences (1) public contributors had space to build confidence in a new topic, (2) relationships between individuals and within the project, (3) working remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic, (4) motivation that influenced people to become involved in this particular piece of work, (5) requirements that co-production needs to be inclusive and accessible to everyone, (6) expectations towards data science and artificial intelligence that researchers should follow to establish public support. Conclusions The participatory evaluation suggests that co-production around data science and artificial intelligence can be a meaningful process that is co-owned by everyone involved.

The evaluation of teaching can be an essential driver for curriculum development. Instruments for teaching evaluation are not only used for the purpose of quality assurance but also in the context of medical education research. Therefore, they must meet the common requirements for reliability and validity. This position paper from the GMA Teaching Evaluation Committee discusses strategic and methodological aspects of evaluation in the context of undergraduate medical education and related courses; and formulates recommendations for the further development of evaluation. First, a four-step approach to the design and implementation of evaluations is presented, then methodological and practical aspects are discussed in more detail. The focus here is on target and confounding variables, survey instruments as well as aspects of implementation and data protection. Finally, possible consequences from evaluation data for the four dimensions of teaching quality (structural and procedural aspects, teachers and outcomes) are discussed.

In December 2021, the Canadian Association of Research Libraries (CARL) released the CARL Library Impact Framework (CLIF). While library impact has been a topic of discussion for many years, CLIF offers a new contribution to the dialogue on the demonstration of impact of research libraries. The concept of impact pathways was borrowed from the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences report entitled Approaches to Assessing Impacts in the Humanities and Social Sciences. To realize the impact pathways concept, CLIF has adapted a logic model framework. This approach provides users of CLIF with a way to represent a more complete arc of influence of research libraries systematically and visually. By design, CLIF encourages the use of assessment techniques and tools beyond the quantitative data collection and descriptive statistics often used by research libraries. This paper provides an overview of CLIF, its genesis, intent, structure, and possibilities for its application in research libraries.

India and Indonesia propose a bilateral cooperation to develop and operate telemetry, tracking, and control (TCC) ground stations to support satellite missions on geostationary orbits with the use of Geostationary Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) since 1997, in order to master and commercialize space technology. This cooperation needs to be assessed in order to identify how it will affect Indonesia and India and to establish an improvement strategy for improved business and ways to integrate. !e objectives of this paper are to (i) evaluate the benefits and cost of this cooperation, (ii) map the business model of the telemetry, tracking and command ground station in Biak, and (iii) design a new strategy to get competitiveness. Descriptive analysis with canvas mapping and transaction cost perspective is the approach utilized. The article’s results highlight that (i) Indonesia and India have mutual benefits from tangible and intangible side, (ii) Indonesia has a competitive advantage due to its geographic location and commercialization of Biak Ground Station, so its potential to Telemetry, Tracking, and Command (TT&C) commercial businesses in the future, not only to domestic, but also international market, and (iii) Indonesia needs collaborate with commercial entities and making optimum diplomation with G2B schema to get beneficially among parties to maximize TT&C infrastructure in Biak Island.

Citizen science is gaining attention as an approach to involving communities in gathering data and contributing to decision-making in public health. Stakeholders interested in citizen science have identified a need for support in applying these approaches and in obtaining evidence of their value. However, there have been few attempts to evaluate citizen science approaches within policy and practice contexts in public health. Within this protocol paper, we outline an approach to evaluating stakeholder-led citizen science projects that focuses on fostering innovation and building capacity in the use of citizen science approaches by these stakeholders. We will use developmental evaluation, which focuses on ongoing reflection and adaptation, to guide the development and delivery of four stakeholder-led citizen science projects in public health. We will employ a multiple embedded case study design, using surveys and interviews, observations of project meetings, reflective journaling, and document review to gather perspectives from a range of stakeholders across the four projects. Data will be synthesised to explore how projects using citizen science approaches operate within policy and practice contexts, including the barriers and facilitators to their application, the circumstances under which they are most useful, and the impacts of these approaches. A developmental approach to evaluation will enable us to build capacity in the use of citizen science approaches by sharing insights and learnings as project teams navigate their individual projects. We hope that this paper will stimulate further discussion about the application and evaluation of citizen science approaches in public health and beyond.

Abstract The frequency of flash floods resulting from heavy rainfall over West Africa has increased in recent years with serious socio‐economic consequences. Therefore, the need to utilize numerical weather prediction models to forecast heavy rainfall events reliably is also rising at many operational meteorological centres in West Africa. This paper evaluates the performance of the Consortium for Small‐scale Modelling (COSMO) model of the German Meteorological Services (DWD) in predicting rainfall over West Africa for high‐impact rainfall events that occurred between 19 and 26 August 2017. The paper aims to investigate the synoptic forcings modulating daily rainfall variability during that period. Results show that COSMO simulates adequately the spatio‐temporal variability of rainfall distribution over West Africa, though with inherent biases. COSMO displays a decreasing skill in producing spatial rainfall distribution as rainfall amounts tend to 30 mm and above. Additionally, areas of heavy rainfall, mostly about 100–300 km southwest of the core of the Africa Easterly Jet (AEJ), often coincide with areas of decreasing mean sea level pressure of at least 0.6 hPa and areas of increasing convective available potential energy of at least 500 J/kg. Although not in all cases, the trough of the Africa Easterly Wave (AEW) is always located to the east of these areas. We show that not every storm, especially east of the prime meridian, is associated with an AEW trough. COSMO is able to reproduce the atmospheric dynamics modulating the daily rainfall variability, in addition to capturing the daily propagation of the AEW trough, and the core of the AEJ. However, the reproducibility skill of the model in predicting atmospheric dynamics may not transform into the predictive skill of the model in producing rainfall. Nevertheless, operational forecasters may be able to determine likely areas of heavy rainfall by estimating the position of the AEJ core based on the position of areas of the least falling pressure from COSMO. Finally, the incorporation of the fractions skill score metric based on the neighbourhood approach could also assist operational forecasters to decide at which scale a severe weather alert can be issued.

The use of android-based learning media when distance learning has not been optimized so that boredom arises in the learning process carried out by students, especially learning about the theory of writing scientific papers in Indonesian language courses. So it is necessary to design an innovative learning media so that students are motivated to learn better during distance learning. This study aims to describe the design process for making the Edu Karim game or short for an android-based scientific work educational game. The research method used in this research is Research and Development (R & D) about the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation or ADDIE stages. The data analysis technique used in this research is quantitative-descriptive of the average score of the validator of learning media experts and student responses to the Edu Karim game. The results of the study show that educational games for Indonesian language courses are very suitable to be used in learning to write Indonesian language scientific papers in universities. Abstrak Penggunaan media pembelajaran berbasis android saat pembelajaran jarak jauh belum dioptimalkan sehingga timbul rasa bosan dalam proses pembelajaran yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa khususnya belajar tentang teori menulis karya ilmiah pada mata kuliah bahasa Indonesia. Maka perlu dirancang sebuah media pembelajaran yang inovatif agar mahasiswa termotivasi untuk belajar lebih baik saat pembelajaran jarak jauh. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses desain pembuatan gim Edu Karim atau kependekan dari gim edukasi karya ilmiah berbasis android. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Research and Development (R & D) dengan mengacu pada tahap analisis, perancangan, pengembangan, implementasi, dan evaluasi atau ADDIE. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah kuantitatif deskriptif dari skor rata-rata validator ahli media pembelajaran serta respons mahasiswa terhadap gim Edu Karim. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa gim edukasi karya ilmiah mata kuliah bahasa Indonesia sangat layak digunakan dalam pembelajaran menulis karya ilmiah mata kuliah bahasa Indonesia di perguruan tinggi.

The working life evaluation of metal oxide varistor (MOV) is always expected by MOV manufacturers and users. In Oct. 2019, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) SC37B established a project team PT 61643–333 led by the author of this paper to draft a technical report about MOV life assessment. As an early researching achievement of PT 61643-333, this paper provides an evaluation method for the impulse life of MOV with the median rank regression (MRR) method based on the Weibull distribution, which provides an effective means for evaluating the impulse life of MOV. Firstly, the theory of Weibull distribution and impulse life characteristics of MOV are introduced. Then the evaluation method and procedure of MOV impulse life is derived from the combination of the MRR method and the impulse characteristics of MOV. Finally, an application example of the proposed evaluation method is given with the test results from real MOV samples. By establishing three basic impulse life characteristics equations, the life evaluation of MOV under arbitrary impulse current can be achieved. In addition, the fitting validity of six groups of samples is checked to prove the effectiveness of the proposed parameter model. And further sensitivity analysis of the variables has been done to examine the effect of changes in the values of the parameters on the propose model.

Context: With the increasing trend of adopting e-Health technologies, the need for evidence for assessing e-Health technologies has become crucial. The appraisal of the e-Health program is important as this could provide guidance on further e-Health investment and adoption. Aims: The aim of the study was to provide an articulated body of literature on the current state of knowledge about the assessment of e-Health interventions. Settings and Design: Scoping review was conducted based on the framework provided by Arksey and O'Malley (2005) and considering enhancements proposed by Peters et al. (2015). Subjects and Methods: We searched the electronic databases and available gray literature from inception until the last week of October 2019. PRISMA flowchart for the study selection process was used to guide reporting. Data extraction included information on study design, authors, year of study, country, and key findings in terms of approaches used for assessment of e-Health programs. Data were compiled and summarized narratively. Results: Searches were performed between October and December 2019. Seventy-one relevant papers published between the years until the last week of October 2019 were reviewed and analyzed. After considering all the eligibility criteria, 15 papers were included. We identified 15 approaches for assessing e-Health programs, which were summarized and tabulated. Conclusions: This review showed that available literature on the assessment of e-Health programs is heterogeneous in terms of the methodology used. e-Health interventions are highly contextual; therefore; the phase of maturity and objective of the assessment should be considered while carrying out the assessment of e-Health programs.

Abstract Background Stated principles in government policy documents serve as a set of values outlining how governments intend to work. As such, health planning principles should be reflected in health policy across the cycle of planning, implementation and evaluation. Such principles should be reflected in the process of governments commissioning and funding evaluation, and in the work of those commissioned to do evaluation on behalf of governments. Methods We reviewed health planning policy documents to identify principles Australian State and Territory and National governments stated as being important to the work they do within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health contexts. Evaluation tenders and reports relating to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health policy, programs and service for the period 1-Jan-2007 to 1-Jan-2017 were retrieved and assessed as to whether they embedded principles governments state as important. Results In Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health planning policy contexts, Australian governments outline shared responsibility, cultural competence, engagement, partnership, capacity building, equity, a holistic concept of health, accountability, and evidence-based as fundamental principles that will underpin the work they will do. In total, we identified 390 publicly advertised evaluation tenders, but were only able to retrieve 18 tenders and 97 reports. Despite strong rhetoric placing importance on the abovementioned principles, these were not consistently embedded in tenders released by government commissioners, nor in reports largely commissioned by governments. Principles most widely incorporated in documents were those corresponding to Closing the Gap - accountability, evidence-based and equity. Principles of holistic concept of health, capacity building, cultural competence and partnership do not appear well applied in evaluation practice. Conclusion Notwithstanding the tensions and criticism of current practice that sees dominant governments policing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations and defining what principles should inform health policy and evaluation practice, this paper reveals shortcomings in current evaluation practice. Firstly, this paper reveals a lack of transparency about current practice, with only 2% of tenders and 25% of reports in the public domain. Secondly, this paper reveals that governments do not ‘walk the talk’, particularly when it comes to principles relating to Aboriginal participation in health.

The aim of this article is to analyze the process of evaluation of Albanian literature in literary periodicals (print or online). The research aims to explain the nature of criticism of Albanian literature in accordance with three main periods of Albanian literary history (1920–1944; 1945–1990; 1991–present). The paper has a short chronological presentation of the main periodicals which deal with literature. It also deals with the reception of Albanian literature in old and new periodicals. Some of the most important research questions of this paper are: Is there a continuation in the critical approaches to Albanian literature from the beginning to the present? Do critics have a ‘critical’ interaction between them while they express their evaluation regarding literature? Who are the critics? Which is the core role of certain critics and periodicals? The methodology used in this paper embraces a historical, analytical, statistical and interpretative approach. The paper will be developed in two parallel sections. The first one will elaborate quantitatively official data related to the number of periodicals which deal with the evaluation of literature in its theoretical and critical aspects and the other section will describe, analyze and interpret the data. The research results tend to prove that the process of critical evaluation of Albanian literature has experienced similar characteristics with Albanian literature itself. The critical reflection or criticism has turned out to be a refracting process. The critical evaluations are marred occasionally by low levels of professionalism or political interference.

The present paper accentuates the importance of holistic views of the world that is relevant for text studies. The purpose of the study is to establish what language means representing emotions which are attributed to God by biblical characters are utilized, and, subsequently provide their classification. Based on the study of the theological interpretation of the antinomy ‘“the immutability of God” - the emotions of God”, the paper 1) introduces the concept of ‘attribution of emotions’ into the conceptual and terminological apparatus of emotiology thus explicating the specificity of biblical emotive meanings; 2) provides the analysis of the depicted biblical space in the emotive aspect; 3) gives the interpretation of biblical characters’ activity as a cause of emotions attributed to God. Central to the text analysis is the notion of the emotional script. This notion is instrumental in presenting the systemic description of emotion development, i.e. the cause of its origin and the corresponding reaction. The language material of the present study is taken from King James Bible. The methods employed in the study include the definitional, contextual, emotive, and lingua-stylistic analyses with references to the historical and cultural context. The outcomes of the present study include the identification of the lexical means of emotions and the following typology of such lexical units: 1) lexemes denoting the cause of emotions attributed to God; 2) lexemes denoting the emotions attributed to God; and 3) lexemes denoting the biblical space perceived by characters as a ‘reaction’ to emotions attributed to God. Given the theandric nature of Jesus Christ, the depicted emotions of His are treated as manifestations of His human nature. The results obtained have made it possible to fill in linguistic content into one of the antinomies of Christian understanding of God and to outline the prospect of further linguistic research on Christian dogmata from the perspective of emotivity.

This paper aims to present the approach to the creation and rendering of a detailed solution for cooling plants including all supporting documents. The paper presents all steps and specific sub steps of the presented approach and the approach has been verified on an example of a cooling plant with water-cooled chillers in the pharmaceutical industry. The authors were motivated to use such approach to find an expedient and high-quality solution for the system architecture. They believe that optimal cooling plant system architecture can be provided by an adequate selection of the required equipment and all system parameters it needs to comply with, through two phases of evaluation analysis, including all supporting technical documents. The approach is based on the designers’ engineering knowledge and years of experience in this field. It is based on a so-called Configuration and Change Management approach where the required/acceptable solution is provided by configuring the product and changing product properties through several loopback steps. The approach is quite comprehensive and complex, however, it produces a satisfactory solution with well presented results, which makes it applicable to the creation of new cooling plants.

COVID’19 is hastening the adoption of online learning and teaching worldwide, and across all levels of education. While many of the typical learning and teaching transactions such as lecturing and communicating are easily handled by contemporary online learning technologies, others, such as assessment of learning outcomes with closed book examinations are fraught with challenges. Among other issues to do with students and teachers, these challenges have to do with the ability of teachers and educational organizations to ensure academic integrity in the absence of a live proctor when an examination is being taken remotely and from a private location. A number of online proctoring tools are appearing on the market that portend to offer solutions to some of the major challenges. But for the moment, they too remain untried and tested on any large scale. This includes the cost of the service and their technical requirements. This paper reports on one of the first attempts to properly evaluate a selection of these tools and offer recommendations for educational institutions. This investigation, which was carried out at the University of the South Pacific, comprised a four-phased approach, starting with desk research that was followed with pilot testing by a group of experts as well as students. The elimination of a tool in every phase was based on the ‘survival of the fittest’ approach with each phase building upon the milestones and deliverables from the previous phase. This paper presents the results of this investigation and discusses its key findings.

Aim/purpose – The paper explores the issue of building interdisciplinary research teams from the point of view of the evaluation requirements for Polish researchers and research units. The main aim of the paper is to determine the possibility of creating interdisciplinary research teams involving management and economics researchers.

The starting point of this paper is the fact that multicriteria decision-making systems have not had the greatest impact on cultural studies, and few researchers have addressed this problem. The paper focuses on the analysis of the main object of an ongoing Doctoral thesis. More specifically, it examines the proposal of a new multicriteria evaluation based on a decision-making method. The paper intends to relate culture with multicriteria decision-making methods. This systematic review provides the direct analysis and assessment of the existing bibliographic references, and addresses a gap of knowledge in the intangible research field, identifying trends in the broader cultural heritage sector. The two basic principles of the paper are the recording and the evaluation of the cultural significance of the intangible and tangible heritage assets of a place. More specifically, the paper seeks to address a new scientific tool that initially records and—in the process—evaluates, using quantitative and qualitative criteria, specific cultural assets. Moreover, the paper outlines a new approach to the calibration—from optimal to worse—of the heritage of a place according to its significance. The purpose of the record and the evaluation is to create a ranking list of the most culturally significant tangible and intangible asset of places, in order to manage them. The design of the multicriteria method is based on a system that can be constantly updated diachronically, and can be fulfilled with new cultural assets and then re-evaluated. The explanation of the system is given through a step-by-step guide to the data analysis process, ensuring that the system has elements that are easy to access, to understand, and to use by each state actor (institution, individual, company, etc.).

Nowadays, we are witnesses to an unpreceded growth of infrastructure and technology, especially in the mobile services and applications domain. However, not all mobile applications prove suitable for meeting end-users anticipations. In order for an application to properly address the users’ needs, it has to feature usability or, in other words, be effective, efficient and satisfactory. The aim of this paper is to study agricultural mobile applications available for smartphones in the Greek market and conduct a thorough evaluation of their usability characteristics. The paper materials and methods employed involve the conduction of two separate usability evaluation surveys of five selected agricultural applications. The first one includes a heuristic analysis performed by three experts in design and human factors. The second one is a survey performed with end-users and specifically involves a user group of ten agricultural professionals, who were asked to rate the applications with respect to five different dimensions affecting usability. Both methods included properly composed questionnaires conforming to relevant international usability standards and best practices (such as the ten heuristics of Nielsen) and suitably selected Likert scales. Results show that some of the applications under consideration feature severe design and functionality flaws (e.g. with respect to system feedback and recovery from errors) that could limit their usefulness as well as their impact on farmers’ everyday activities. In conclusion, both of the employed methods acted in a complementary fashion and their joint utilization revealed design flaws that could be addressed and improved in subsequent application development.

Brexit, i.e. the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union, is a major event in European and global politics. It has been debated from a multitude of social, economic, and cultural angles. This paper offers a cognitive linguistic perspective on Brexit, and investigates its metaphoric conceptualization on the first days after the 2016 referendum. That period seems especially important as, arguably, it was then that for many UK citizens, Brexit suddenly became more than just a hypothetical possibility. The investigation is quantitative and follows Socio-cognitive discourse studies principles. It registers frequencies of source-domain use in UK online media, and traces preferences as to general source-domain semantics. The findings strongly suggest the presence of negative source-domain preferences. This negative metaphoric construal comes in stark contrast with the 3-year par between the Leave and Remain stances in the UK. To explain that discrepancy, the paper argues in support of the importance of 'levels' in source-domain use. Admittedly, throughout Lakovian works (e.g., Lakoff and Johnson, 1980, 1999), conceptual metaphoric transfer has been argued to take place at what Rosch et al. postulate as basic-level categorization (1973). However, as the present paper suggests, Rosch's 'levels' in prototypology can be seen as functioning through conceptual metonymy. That, in its turn, combined with the all-pervasive cognitive mechanism of spreading activation (first introduced into linguistics by de Beaugrande and Dressler in 1981) suggests all semantic levels can be co-activated in the process of metaphorization, regardless of which level is currently being highlighted and drawn on. As a consequence, different semantic levels are believed here to have the potential to co-influence inferences and connotations resulting from conceptual metaphorization. Thus, the approach adopted in the present study also has the potential to explain why it has been so difficult for scholars to pinpoint and formulate metaphoric transfers. Importantly, the 'levels' proposed here should be differentiated from, although not interpreted as contradicting, the metaphor-relevant levels specified in Kovecses (2010).

Ziel des Beitrags ist es, die Analyse von Sprachmanipulationsmitteln in der Artikelreihe „Aus dem gol-denen Buche unserer Armee“ durchzuführen. Die analysierte Artikelreihe wurde in der österreichisch-ungarischen Tageszeitung „Krakauer Zeitung“ während des Ersten Weltkrieges veröffentlicht. Im Beitrag werden manipulativ-bewertende Mittel in Hinsicht auf die lexikalisch-morphologische Ebene von Texten sowie deren Funktionen untersucht. Mit der Analyse wird die Frage beantwortet, welches Bild sich von damaligen Soldaten der k. u k. Monarchie rekonstruieren lässt. Aufgrund der durchgeführten Analyse werden Charakterzüge, Bezeichnungen und Werte ermittelt, die den Soldaten in verschiedenen Artikeln zugeschrieben wurden. // The aim of the paper is an analysis of the language manipulation means in the article series “Aus dem goldenen Buche unserer Armee” (‘From the Gold Book of our Army’). The analysed article series were pub-lished in the Austro-Hungarian daily newspaper “Krakauer Zeitung”during World War I. In the paper, the manipulative-evaluate means have been examined with regards to the lexical-morphological levels of texts as well as their functions. On the basis of the analysis, the question of what image of the Dual Monarchy’s soldiers at that time could be reconstructed, has been answered. On the basis of the conducted analysis, the characteristics, descriptions and values have been determined for which the soldiers were blamed in different articles.

Collocations usage among translation master students in the University of Algiers II seems rather irregular when it comes to the transfer of English into Arabic. This paper examines the extent and causes of this irregularity through a descriptive field study conducted among students’ assessments. It also inquires the means to consolidate translation data towards their mother tongue first, and to spontaneously and correctly make them use collocations when translating into Arabic. This paper aims at suggesting long-term solutions for undergraduate translators’ culture widening for a future style improvement. In a nutshell, it is admitted that in order to preserve Arabic from weakness and to universally spread its culture, more consideration is to be offered to translation since it is a solid channel for a daily usage of collocations. Purposefully and consequently then, many outstanding books on collocations proved efficient when read by students in a limited period of time; the assessments, full of collocations usage, showed how fruitful the books were and how they bettered the students’ style as far as collocations are concerned.

The Universal Child Allowance (AUH) is an Argentine cash transfer programme that conditions payment to parents on the fulfilment of health and education conditions for their children. While the impact of the AUH on education is well known, its effects on health have been less explored. This paper assesses the direct effect of the programme on children attending routine medical exams and receiving scheduled vaccinations, the health conditions of the programme, along with indirect health-related outcomes to explore the wider potential effects on child health. Using microdata from the Argentine Social Debt Survey (EDSA), a quasi-experimental design is implemented to determine the average treatment effect on AUH recipients. The AUH is found to have no effect on the behaviours on which it is conditioned or on dental visits, but it does increase food security. The paper discusses the implications of these findings for the design and implementation of programme conditionalities.

Introduction. The paper considers the specifics of filmonyms’ translation in the modern film discourse. The purpose of this paper is the analysis of the translation strategy for filmonyms’ negativisation. Scientific novelty consists in a new, cognitive approach to the analysis of translation activities, carried out at the level of consciousness with the analysis of cognitive concepts behind the translated material. The object of this research is the variety of foreign film industry filmonyms, which had been translated with the introduction of the negative connotation. Actuality of work is determined by the demand for the efficient introduction of the foreign content in its harmonious balance with the home content in the situation of a fierce international competition.Methodology and sources. Cognitive-discursive approach to the film discourse is used in the paper, being carried out through synchronous comparison of home and foreign variants. The methodology of estimation objectification is applied for the demonstration of the degree of convenience and ease of the resulting translation in the receiving culture. The filmonyms’ translation analysis is based on the transcreational method of reconceptualization, accompanied by the domestication of filmonyms in the home culture. The source for the analysis is found in the tree-year collection of 400 non-equivalently translated filmonyms from the home periodical “Peterburgsky telezritel’ “ of 2017-2020.Results and discussion. The analysis of negatively coloured filmonyms in home film discourse was based on the cognitive-discursive method, demonstrating meaningful statements behind the source and the translated material. The analysis of the negativity in the filmonyms’ translation has demonstrated, that the best is modified as the worst, the degree of danger is magnified, and fair game is turned into an unfair one, while the examples of amelioration in translation are rare. This is explained by the tendency for the pejorative valuation and results in the general viewers’ distrust for the film industry. . The use of the cognitive-discursive methods allowed to define the degree of the evaluative variability of the filmonyms’ translation, as well as the trend for the pejorative evaluation, reflecting the cultural specifics of the receiving culture in its contrast with the positivity of the culture of the original filmonyms. As a result the conclusion was formed, declaring the formation of the interpretational dialect of the film industry, which is lowering the level of the consumer preferences, which consequently leads to the growth of isolation and to the syndrome of the “social exclusion“.

The Iranian capital has suffered from inequalities in the distribution of services and the economic class segregation for decades. The residents of north Tehran are mostly affluent enjoying much better access to urban amenities and infrastructures, whilst those of south Tehran mostly have less incomes with poorer access to services. This inequality is reflected in property prices of northern and southern neighbourhoods. However, the difference between objective indicators such as services, green space and higher income does not seem to be reflected in their respective residents’ satisfaction levels. The focus of this study is mainly on measuring the subjective indicators of justice perceived by Tehran citizens. Based on theoretical foundations and previous surveys, the present paper starts with setting out the justice criteria according to Tehran citizens. It then deals with the question of what differences there are in the perception of justice between the inhabitants of the different neighbourhoods of Tehran. In other words, the purpose of this study is to explain the views of citizens living in Tehran on the indicators of justice. According to studies, the people of Tehran measure justice through four criteria: the distance between the rich and the poor, state aid for the poor, law enforcement and lack of corruption. On this basis, the present article is based data collected through questionnaires, followed by the examination of these criteria in Elahieh (north of Tehran) and Vali-e-Asr township (south of Tehran) neighbourhoods. The survey shows that the two neighbourhoods have significant differences in terms of urban services, land prices and objective indicators, with Elahieh enjoying much better status than Vali-e-Asr. However, there is no meaningful difference between these neighbourhoods in terms of the perception of justice. In other words, even in a neighbourhood with suitable physical conditions, there is higher sense of justice compared to a physically poor neighbourhood. Finally, the paper shows that physical improvements in the urban environment have failed improve a sense of spatial justice.

During the last few years, higher education has been the subject of constant transformation, innovations and reforms. In response to the new demands of the society, universities increase academic mobility, attract international students, introduce information technologies and new approaches to learning: personalized learning, problem-based learning, flipped classroom, distance learning, blended learning and so on. The role of a teacher in introducing new educational technologies and preparing the future generation is of great importance, so the main priority all over the world is to improve the quality of teacher education.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the current state of initial teacher training in Canada, a country where a larger proportion of students performed at the highest levels of proficiency according to the most recent PISA study, which indicates the quality of teacher training. The paper discusses the main features of Canadian teacher education programs: the teacher education models, the program structure and duration, the program content as well as different methods for assessing student learning outcomes with particular attention paid to modern approaches to assessing the student professional competencies at Quebec teacher faculties. Based on a literature review, the results of comparative studies of Canadian researches as well as universities regulations and official websites information, we analyze the main trends in the teacher education in Canada.

Critique is a primary method of assessment and feedback used in architectural education. It is used extensively at the design studio where students are asked to develop, present, and discuss their interventions. The collaborative typology of design studio adds to the importance of critique as an educational tool. Students are asked to present their work and discuss it with their colleagues and professors. At these cases, critique plays a key role as a tool for assessing and scrutinizing students’ achievements and their creativity’ potentials.This paper investigates the correlation between the typical stages of the design process and critiques sessions presented at the design studio. It reviews the literature to develop a framework to figure out this relationship. In a further investigation step, this paper discusses the case of the 2nd-year design studio at the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Alexandria University to validate its findings. The case study proves the framework’s flexibility to be applied in different circumstances effectively based on understandings its detailed configurations.

This paper introduces constructivist dialogue mapping (CDM), a new type of concept mapping. CDM encodes what people learn during a non-goal directed learning activity. CDM is a practical means to outline the mini theories users fluidly construct as they explore open-ended learning environments. To demonstrate the method, in this paper we use CDM to track how two modelers elaborate understandings during use of a constructionist learning game, Ant Adaptation. Using the method, we show how two users contest and construct their idea of self-organization in ant colonies. The method is rooted in constructionism, constructivism, concept mapping, and conceptual change.

Plain English summary Patient and public involvement (PPI) improves the quality of health research and ensures that research is relevant to patients’ needs. Though PPI is increasingly evident in clinical and health services research, there are few examples in the research literature of effective PPI in translational and laboratory-based research. In this paper, we describe the development and evaluation of PPI in a multi-centre European project (EuroTEAM – Towards Early biomarkers in Arthritis Management) that included both translational and laboratory-based and psychosocial research. We found that although most PPI in EuroTEAM was centred around the psychosocial research, there were examples of PPI in the laboratory studies. As the project evolved, researchers became better at accommodating PPI and identifying PPI opportunities. It was generally agreed that PPI had a positive impact on the project overall, particularly on public engagement with the research. We concluded that the inclusion of both psychosocial and laboratory-based research in the same project facilitated PPI across all aspects of the research. In future projects, we would try to specify individual PPI activities in more detail at the project-planning stage, and better accommodate patient partners who are not native speakers of English. Abstract Background Patient and public involvement (PPI) enhances research quality and relevance and is central to contemporary health policy. The value of PPI has been recognised in rheumatology research, though there are limited examples of PPI in basic and translational science. The EU FP7 funded ‘EuroTEAM’ (Towards Early biomarkers in Arthritis Management) project was established to develop biomarker-based approaches to predict the future development of rheumatoid arthritis and incorporated psychosocial research to investigate the perceptions of ‘at risk’ individuals about predictive testing, and to develop informational resources about rheumatoid arthritis (RA) risk. Patient involvement was central to EuroTEAM from the inception of the project. The objective of this paper is to describe the development of PPI in EuroTEAM, formatively assess the impact of PPI from the perspectives of researchers and patient research partners (PRPs), reflect on successes and lessons learned, and formulate recommendations to guide future projects. Methods Two mixed-methods surveys (for PRPs and researchers) and a teleconference were undertaken to assess the impact of PPI on individual work packages and on EuroTEAM overall. Results There was consensus about the positive impact of PPI on the research and on the experiences of those involved. In particular, the positive impact of PPI on the personal development of researchers, and on effective public engagement with EuroTEAM research were highlighted. Researchers described adapting their practice in future projects to facilitate PPI. Spin-off projects and ongoing collaborations between PRPs and researchers reflected the value of PPI to participants. PPI was more frequently integrated in psychosocial research, though examples of PPI in laboratory/translational science were also described. PRPs asked for more opportunities to contribute meaningfully to basic scientific research and for more extensive feedback on their contributions. Conclusions The findings were used to formulate recommendations to guide effective involvement of patients in future similar projects, including identifying specific training requirements for PRPs and researchers, the identification of PRP focused tasks/deliverables at the project planning stage, and supporting access to involvement for all PRPs. Importantly, the distinctive multidisciplinary approach of EuroTEAM, incorporating both basic science and psychosocial research, facilitated patient involvement in the project overall.

Over the past 20 years, cash transfers have become increasingly widespread within international development and global social policy. Often, their roll out is preceded by a trial or pilot phase aiming to check feasibility and effectiveness. These pilots can involve thousands of people. However, there is limited discussion within the literature (and even less in practice) of how and whether cash transfer trials and the research that they involve can respect ethical standards. This paper represents an initial step towards filling that gap. It does so by reviewing the latest literature pertaining to the ethics of cash transfers and social experimentation. It concludes by advancing a series of proposals that could support cash transfer trials to take place with greater respect for research ethics norms and in the best interests of participants. The paper’s findings have relevance for policymakers and development practitioners working with cash transfers and also for the smaller cognate world of Unconditional Basic Income (UBI) piloting.

This paper focuses on an evaluation of three projects working with young people in innovative ways to tackle societal alcohol misuse. Rather than presenting the findings of the evaluation per se, the paper presents learning from using theory-based approaches in a collaborative way to evaluate these complex, multi-strand initiatives. Traditional evaluations conducted by academics without collaboration with stakeholders can fail to meet the needs of those delivering interventions. Drawing on interviews with practitioners involved in delivering the projects, the paper adds new evidence to epistemological debates by introducing the notion of a ‘synergic theory of change’, whereby academic expertise and the skills, knowledge and experiences of stakeholders are subject to dialogue, and a theory of change becomes the result of collaborative consensus building. This way of using theory of change in evaluation requires researchers to work in a spirit of co-production and dialogue, and it can move evaluation away from being an exercise that seeks to judge interventions and, by extension, practitioners, to one which prioritises a shared learning journey. Using a synergic theory of change approach has the potential to change the nature of evaluation and lead to a different kind of relationship between researchers and practitioners than traditional methods-based approaches allow.

This paper presents the CRBeDaSet—a new benchmark dataset designed for evaluating close range, image-based 3D modeling and reconstruction techniques, and the first empirical experiences of its use. The test object is a medium-sized building. Diverse textures characterize the surface of elevations. The dataset contains: the geodetic spatial control network (12 stabilized ground points determined using iterative multi-observation parametric adjustment) and the photogrammetric network (32 artificial signalized and 18 defined natural control points), measured using Leica TS30 total station and 36 terrestrial, mainly convergent photos, acquired from elevated camera standpoints with non-metric digital single-lens reflex Nikon D5100 camera (ground sample distance approx. 3 mm), the complex results of the bundle block adjustment with simultaneous camera calibration performed in the Pictran software package, and the colored point clouds (ca. 250 million points) from terrestrial laser scanning acquired using the Leica ScanStation C10 and post-processed in the Leica Cyclone™ SCAN software (ver. 2022.1.1) which were denoized, filtered, and classified using LoD3 standard (ca. 62 million points). The existing datasets and benchmarks were also described and evaluated in the paper. The proposed photogrammetric dataset was experimentally tested in the open-source application GRAPHOS and the commercial suites ContextCapture, Metashape, PhotoScan, Pix4Dmapper, and RealityCapture. As the first experience in its evaluation, the difficulties and errors that occurred in the software used during dataset digital processing were shown and discussed. The proposed CRBeDaSet benchmark dataset allows obtaining high accuracy (“mm” range) of the photogrammetric 3D object reconstruction in close range, based on a multi-image view uncalibrated imagery, dense image matching techniques, and generated dense point clouds.

In this paper we present some reflections about the process of evaluation of teaching as a starting point for an improvement. Without information there cannot be change. Any improvement in the classroom requires dealing with information coming from, first, the students as counterpart in the university learning teaching process; second, other colleagues who give their professional opinion and; third, of ourselves as lecturers, so that a complete evaluation is made from all points of view.

Curriculum management is an important aspect and prerequisite for successful teacher leadership and teaching process quality. In order to ensure horizontal and vertical alignment and the development vision of instruction, it is necessary to identify the functional elements of this dimension in the context of higher education. For these reasons, the concept of curriculum management is viewed in this paper from the perspective of three main functions: monitoring and evaluating the teaching process, coordinating curriculum development, and tracking student progress by university teachers and associates. With the aim of determining whether and to what extent the above-mentioned dimensions of curriculum management are present at the higher education level, the research was conducted on a sample of 216 students from four faculties of the University of Niš. The results of this research show the studied functions a are present at a significant level with a statistically significant frequency of their use among the teaching associates. As for the individual components of the surveyed functions, a statistically significant difference was found between the teachers from different faculties in terms of: teacher evaluation of students' involvement in the instruction process, student motivation for more intense engagement and student involvement in the evaluation process. On the other hand, teaching associates are characterized by different approaches to monitoring and evaluating instruction in terms of checking the level of understanding of the content covered in class. The established differences point to the conclusion that the researched functions are more effectively realized at faculties where instruction happens in smaller groups and where the functional learning objectives are emphasized. From the standpoint of legislation and standards for the accreditation of study programs, it can be concluded that they provide a favorable foundation for curriculum management, and that by mapping shortcomings and strategic planning of future activities, this field can be significantly improved.

The role of evaluation in urban and architectural design processes is a current field of investigation, in the national context. Scholars in evaluation increasingly focus on the need for opening the “black box” of architectural design process, directing the evaluation discipline in making explicit and communicable its mechanisms. Currently, the role of evaluation in making explicit and communicable the reasons for the choices to be made is often deepened, on the one hand, in terms of exploring the architectural design process as an intellectual, ideational and creative practice, starting from a “generative idea”; on the other hand, in terms of its contribution with respect to the quality of the product – as buildings – in relation with the quality of the project in its drafting practices. This paper reflects on architectural design as a decision-making activity that needs to be unpacked in order to be supported by evaluation through specific tools and methodologies. In doing so, the attention is shifted from the material products of architecture – such as buildings – to the processes of proposal, negotiation and finalization of projects. Consequently, the main aim is a theoretical investigation on the role of some architectural design practices in relation to the ongoing decision-making process, by exploring the connections between these practices and their results and effects in the process. Il ruolo della valutazione nei processi di progettazione urbana e architettonica è un campo di indagine attuale, nel contesto nazionale. Gli studiosi di valutazione si concentrano sempre più sulla necessità di aprire la “scatola nera” del processo di progettazione architettonica, indirizzando la disciplina valutativa a rendere espliciti e comunicabili i suoi meccanismi. Attualmente, il ruolo della valutazione nel rendere esplicite e comunicabili le ragioni delle scelte da compiere viene spesso approfondito, da un lato, in termini di esplorazione del processo di progettazione architettonica come pratica intellettuale, ideativa e creativa, a partire da una “idea generativa”; dall’altro, in termini di contributo rispetto alla qualità del prodotto – gli edifici – in relazione alla qualità del progetto nelle sue pratiche di redazione. Questo articolo riflette sulla progettazione architettonica come attività decisionale che deve essere spacchettata per es- sere supportata dalla valutazione attraverso strumenti e metodologie specifiche. Nel fare ciò, l’attenzione si sposta dai prodotti materiali dell’architettura – come gli edifici - ai processi di proposta, negoziazione e finalizza- zione dei progetti. Di conseguenza, l’obiettivo principale è un’indagine teorica sul ruolo di alcune pratiche di progettazione architettonica in relazione al processo decisionale in corso, esplorando le connessioni tra queste pratiche e i loro risultati ed effetti nel processo.

Abstract Background Recent studies mention a need to investigate partnership roles and dynamics within patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) in health research, and how impact and outcomes are achieved. Many labels exist to describe involvement processes, but it is unknown whether the label has implications on partnerships and outcomes. This rapid review investigates how roles between patients, relatives and researchers in a broad variety of PPIE activities in health research are described in peer reviewed papers and explores what enables these partnerships. Methods Rapid review of articles published between 2012 and February 2022 describing, evaluating, or reflecting on experiences of PPIE in health research. All research disciplines and research areas were eligible. Four databases (Medline, Embase, PsychInfo and CINAHL) were searched between November 2021 and February 2022. We followed PRISMA guidelines and extracted descriptive factors: year, origin, research area and discipline, study focus, framework used and co-authorship. On a selection of articles, we performed a narrative analysis of partnership roles using Smits et al.’s. Involvement Matrix. Lastly, we performed a meta synthesis of reported enablers and outcomes of the partnerships. Patients and Relatives (PRs) have been involved in the whole rapid review process and are co-authors of this article. Results Seventy articles from various research disciplines and areas were included. Forty articles were selected for a narrative analysis of the role description of PRs and researchers, and a meta synthesis of enablers and outcomes. Most articles described researchers as decision-makers throughout the research cycle. PRs most often were partners when they were included as co-authors; they were mostly partners in the design, analysis, write-up, and dissemination stages. Enablers of partnerships included: PR training, personality of PRs and communication skills, trust, remuneration and time. Conclusions Researchers’ decision-making roles gives them control of where and when to include PRs in their projects. Co-authorship is a way of acknowledging patients’ contributions which may lead to legitimation of their knowledge and the partnership. Authors describe common enablers, which can help future partnership formation.

This paper explores the deployment of multimodal elements as appraisal resources in #Endsars civil unrest-related memes in Nigerian social media space (WhatsApp and Twitter) to express affective meanings and intersubjective positioning. The study investigates how both verbal and non-verbal elements are deployed as appraisal resources to evaluate the trajectory of the protest. The data, which comprise thirty purposively selected Internet memes, collected between October and December, 2020, were analysed qualitatively. The study shows that the meme producers, through the use of multimodal concepts such as symbolic, analytical, action, reactional processes, offer and salience, among others, project various expressions of affect, judgement and appreciation of things to create important narratives in the memes. Thus, the verbal elements are graded/upscaled through the non-verbal elements in the memes to evoke specific reactions, positive/negative, which signal intersubjective positioning about the protest and relevant social actors. The study concludes that meme producers effectively utilize multimodal elements to interrogate various expressions of attitude and intersubjective opinions that Nigerians made about the protest and its management by the Nigerian government.

This paper focuses on the use of diminutives in Polish to express irony. The phenomenon is analyzed from the perspective of morphopragmatics (Dressler, Merlini Barbaresi 1994; Merlini Barbaresi 2015; Nagórko 2015) and reports on the results of a small-scale informant-based study, in which twelve respondents described their evaluation of the pragmatic meaning contributed by diminutives in three naturally-occurring spoken sentences. In most cases, there was a negative reaction to the diminutives as it was considered they represent an arrogant type of irony.

Residential care is often seen as a last resort for adolescents in the care system with multiple placements and complex case histories. This has led to an increasing research focus on the needs of children in residential care and how settings and practitioners can provide suitable environments. This paper presents an evaluation of Caring Changes, a ten-week residential care training course that was modified from the Fostering Changes course and run across seven settings. The mixed methods evaluation combined pre- and post-course surveys, weekly session evaluations, and interviews with facilitators, home managers, practitioners and young people. The study found that the Caring Changes course increased team solidification and communication, as well as individual practitioners' confidence and positivity, resulting in improved services for the children accessing the service. There were however challenges relating to the running of intensive, whole staff training in the residential care sector, and the diversity and complexity of the needs of children in residential care, with a need for more advanced content and the tailoring of the course to individual homes.

Abstract Music inpainting is a sub-task of automated music generation that aims to infill incomplete musical pieces to help musicians in their musical composition process. Many methods have been developed for this task. However, we observe a tendency for each method to be evaluated using different datasets and metrics in the papers where they are presented. This lack of standardization hinders an adequate comparison of these approaches. To tackle these problems, we present MUSIB, a new benchmark for musical score inpainting with standardized conditions for evaluation and reproducibility. MUSIB evaluates four models: Variable Length Piano Infilling (VLI), Music InpaintNet, Music SketchNet, and AnticipationRNN, and over two commonly used datasets: JSB Chorales and IrishFolkSong. We also compile, extend, and propose metrics to adequately quantify note attributes such as pitch and rhythm with Note Metrics, but also higher-level musical properties with the introduction of Divergence Metrics, which operate by comparing the distance between distributions of musical features. Our evaluation shows that VLI, a model based on Transformer architecture, is the best performer on a larger dataset, while VAE-based models surpass this Transformer-based model on a relatively small dataset. With MUSIB, we aim at inspiring the community towards better reproducibility in music generation research, setting an example for strongly founded comparisons among SOTA methods.

Abstract Background In 2020, the Health Resources and Services Administration’s HIV/AIDS Bureau funded an initiative to promote implementation of rapid antiretroviral therapy initiation in 14 HIV treatment settings across the U.S. The goal of this initiative is to accelerate uptake of this evidence-based strategy and provide an implementation blueprint for other HIV care settings to reduce the time from HIV diagnosis to entry into care, for re-engagement in care for those out of care, initiation of treatment, and viral suppression. As part of the effort, an evaluation and technical assistance provider (ETAP) was funded to study implementation of the model in the 14 implementation sites. Method The ETAP has used implementation science methods framed by the Dynamic Capabilities Model integrated with the Conceptual Model of Implementation Research to develop a Hybrid Type II, multi-site mixed-methods evaluation, described in this paper. The results of the evaluation will describe strategies associated with uptake, implementation outcomes, and HIV-related health outcomes for patients. Discussion This approach will allow us to understand in detail the processes that sites to implement and integrate rapid initiation of antiretroviral therapy as standard of care as a means of achieving equity in HIV care.

In this paper, we report how instructional design and multimedia principles were used to develop and evaluate an e-learning resource on Kawasaki Disease, which was primarily created as a revision aid for undergraduate medical students.Methods: The design and development of the resource was based upon the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation (ADDIE) instructional model. A “People, Activities, Contexts and Technologies” (PACT) analysis was initially undertaken to identify learners’ needs, and the 12 Principles of Multimedia Design informed the development of the resource. The evaluation strategy was informed by the Usability Evaluation Method for e-Learning Applications and focused on the instructional design parameters of navigation, visual design and intrinsic motivation to learn.Results and Conclusion: Feedback from the seven medical students who completed and evaluated the resource showed high levels of satisfaction. Students perceived it to be beneficial to their learning and indicated a preference for an interactive digital resource over traditional modes of learning, such as textbooks. However, as this was a small-scale evaluation, suggestions for further evaluation and how this may inform ongoing development of the resource are considered in this paper.Keywords: pediatric education, digital resource, ADDIE, evaluation

Abstract This paper shows the construction of a performance evaluation system for the inheritance of traditional sports intangible cultural inheritors. In order to ensure the scientific nature and rationality of the indicators, a theoretical model of performance evaluation content is first established. Then, based on the theoretical model, the preliminary selection of indicators is completed, and then the expert screening of indicators is further completed by Delphi method, and the weights of each indicator are established through analytic hierarchy. Finally, in order to verify the application effect of the indicator system in practice, this study conducts an empirical study on the system from the perspective of regional performance evaluation. The results show that the discriminating power and applicability of the evaluation indicator are effective, and the evaluation system has a very distinct epochal and people-centered character. In conclusion, the construction of this evaluation system is of great significance to improve the scientific and standardized level of evaluation of Intangible cultural heritage inheritors.

Wireless technology is expected to undergo considerable transformation because of the numerous services offered by 6G communication networks, which virtually entirely encompass every part of everyday life and use a variety of devices. Channel modeling is an essential factor in designing 6G communication networks. To meet the channel requirements of future 6G communication networks, it is crucial to measure the channel to consider path loss, multi-band, fading, blocking effect, multipath clustering, transmitter, and receiver moving speed/direction/time. The goal of this paper is to design and evaluate a 6G communication network in Banda Aceh City using a statistical channel model. The channel model is associated with environmental conditions such as rainfall and humidity. The method is then based on computer simulation using the NYUSIM simulator to complete the channel modeling using an operating frequency of 95 GHz with a bandwidth of 800 MHz. In the simulator, the designed 6G channel model is evaluated in both line-of-sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLOS) network environments. In addition, the designated network parameters, such as the coverage area, angle of arrival (AoA), angle of departure (AoD), and power delay profile (PDP), are simulated. The results, at AoA, the value of received power for LOS conditions ranges from -86 dBm to -101 dBm, while the value for NLOS conditions ranges from -91 dBm to -111 dBm. Under LOS conditions, the received power for AoD ranges from -86 dBm to -101 dBm, whereas under NLOS conditions, it ranges from -91 dBm to -111 dBm. In the omnidirectional PDP, the pathloss value for the LOS condition is 99.8 dB and the delay is 17.9 ns, while the pathloss value for the NLOS condition is 104.2 dB with a delay of 28.1 ns. For the directional PDP, the LOS condition yields a path loss of 106.4 dB and a delay of 2.9 ns, while the NLOS condition yields a path loss of 110.5 dB and a delay of 3 ns. Conclusions. The simulation indicated that the AoA, AoD, and PDP in terms of received power, pathloss, and propagation delay are in acceptable conditions for a 6G network in Banda Aceh City in the two observed environments. Therefore, it is conceivable to establish a 6G network in Banda Aceh City in the future.

Background: Equitable access to health services can be constrained in countries where private practitioners make up a large portion of primary care providers. Expanding purchasing arrangements has helped many countries integrate private providers into government-supported payment schemes, reducing financial barriers to care. However, private providers often must go through an onerous accreditation process to enroll in these schemes. The difficulties of this process are exacerbated where health policy is changed often and low-level bureaucrats must navigate these shifts at their own discretion. This paper analyzes one initiative to increase private provider accreditation with social health insurance (SHI) in Kenya by creating an intermediary between providers and “street-level” SHI bureaucrats. Methods: This paper draws on 126 semi-structured interviews about SHI accreditation experience with private providers who were members of a franchise network in Kenya. It also draws on four focus group discussions conducted with franchise representatives who provided accreditation support to the providers and served as liaisons between the franchised providers and local SHI offices. There was a total of 20 participants across all four focus groups. Results: In a governance environment where regulations are weak and impermanent, street-level bureaucrats often created an accreditation process that was inconsistent and opaque. Support from the implementing organizations increased communication between SHI officials and providers, which clarified rules and increased providers’ confidence in the system. The intermediaries also reduced bureaucrats’ ability to apply regulations at will and helped to standardize the accreditation process for both providers and bureaucrats. Conclusions: We conclude that intermediary organizations can mitigate institutional weaknesses and facilitate process efficiency. However, intermediaries only have a temporary role to play where there is potential to: 1) directly increase private providers’ power in a complex regulatory system; 2) reform the system itself to be more responsive to the limitations of on-the-ground implementation.
