The aim of this study was to perform a bibliometric analysis to discover what topics of dental YouTube videos have been investigated by the scientific literature, and evaluate how video characteristics were related to citation count. The Scopus electronic literature database was accessed to identify relevant papers. After screening, a total of 128 papers entered the analysis. The bibliographic data were provided by Scopus, whereas content evaluations were manually performed. Most papers evaluated videos recorded in English (85.9%). Each of the 128 papers analyzed a mean (±SD) of 79.2 ± 61.6 videos. Mean journal impact factor was 1.8 ± 1.4, and mean citation count was 13.0 ± 22.4. The preference for publication of papers was inclined towards dental journals (80.5%), with the majority (54.7%) being published without open access. Papers dealing with videos targeting patients/public had higher citations than those targeting dental professionals only (14.1 ± 23.4 vs. 4.0 ± 6.3, p < 0.001). The most represented as well as the most highly cited specialty of the dental YouTube publications was oral and maxillofacial surgery/oral medicine. Some twin or triplet studies published in the same year covering the same topic were identified, but they often covered a different number of videos.

Background: Alternative scientometric measures have introduced a novel view of the scientific literature. This study aimed to identify the top 50 most-cited recent articles in the field of knee and hip arthroplasty, characterize their traditional and alternative scientometric measures, and determine the relationship between traditional and alternative scientometric measures. Material and methods: The 50 most-cited articles with the term “arthroplasty” in the title that were published between 2015 and 2019 were retrieved from the Scopus database. Alternative scientometric parameters such as Altmetric Attention Score (AAS) from Altmetrics bookmarklet (Altmetrics.com) were retrieved. Scientometric variables such as journal impact factor, first author H-index, and keywords were also extracted. Results: The 50 most-cited papers accrued 7955 total citations, with a mean of 159.10 ± 56.4 citations per article. The overall mean AAS across the papers was 63.4 ± 164.8. The mean first author’s H-index was 23.8 ± 18.9. Papers published in 2017 and 2018 had a significantly higher mean AAS than those published in 2015 and 2016 (35.1 vs 22.5, P = .009). Citation count was weakly correlated with the AAS (correlation coefficient = 0.379, P = .009). Also, AAS had significant correlations with the journal’s impact factor (P < .001). Conclusion: We found that the AAS was highest in more recently published papers, while citation count had the opposite trend. The AAS was significantly correlated with the journal’s impact factor and citation count, but the correlation is weak. This suggests that the alternative scientometric measures are complementary to, and not substitutes for, complement traditional measures such as citation count and impact factor.

ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to identify and characterize the 100 most cited articles on Parkinson’s disease (PD) and phenolic compounds (PCs).MethodsArticles were selected in the Web of Science Core Collection up to June 2022 based on predetermined inclusion criteria, and the following bibliometric parameters were extracted: the number of citations, title, keywords, authors, year, study design, tested PC and therapeutic target. MapChart was used to create worldwide networks, and VOSviewer software was used to create bibliometric networks. Descriptive statistical analysis was used to identify the most researched PCs and therapeutic targets in PD.ResultsThe most cited article was also the oldest. The most recent article was published in 2020. Asia and China were the continent and the country with the most articles in the list (55 and 29%, respectively). In vitro studies were the most common experimental designs among the 100 most cited articles (46%). The most evaluated PC was epigallocatechin. Oxidative stress was the most studied therapeutic target.ConclusionDespite the demonstrations in laboratorial studies, the results obtained point to the need for clinical studies to better elucidate this association.

Background: Over the past few decades, a vast number of articles focused on bone metastasis have been published. Bibliometric analysis is helpful to determine the qualities and characteristics and to reveal the influential articles in this field. Methods: All the databases in Web of Science were utilized to identify articles published from 1961 to 2020. The top 100 most cited articles on bone metastases were involved for degree centrality analysis and analyses on publication time and citations, journals, authors, geographical distribution, research institutions, and research keywords. Results: The selected articles were published mainly from 1986 to 2015. The 100 most cited articles were selected from a total of 67,451 citations out of 90,502 publications with a density of 50.239 citations/year. Citations per article ranged from 357 to 2167. The leading country was USA, followed by Canada and United Kingdom. The most frequently studied themes were clinical management of bone metastasis from different malignancy origins. A co-authorship analysis revealed an intense collaborative activity between countries and institutions. Conclusions: This study identified the top 100 most cited articles on bone metastasis. Publication time, area, and theme distribution were thoroughly analyzed. The present study highlighted some of the most influential contributions to the field. Clinical and academic communities have shown a sustained interest in the management of bone metastasis.

Background: A large number of published articlesexists, centered on pediatric and adult medulloblastomas. Objective: To accomplish a systematic review and meta-analysis concerningmedulloblastoma, focusing on the clinical features, diagnostic and currenttreatment modalities, as well as prognostic factors. Methods: In March 2020, we performed a title- focused search using Thomson Reuters Web of Science database in order to identify the most cited articles centered on adult and pediatric medulloblastomas. Results: Our search resulted in 4.779 articles, published from 1975 until March 2020. All of them combined have been cited 118,703 times, with an average citation per item of 24.84. The most cited article was published by Pomeroy SL, et al. in 2002 in Nature Journal, whereas the least cited one was published by Huang E., et al, in 2002. Conclusions: The aim of the study is, via the presentation of the 100 most cited papers focused on medulloblastoma, to describe their relevant contribution regarding advances in therapeutic prospects, prognosis, molecular characteristics andreconsideration of treatment protocols.We describe how, and to what degree, the treatment guidelines and management of this tumor have changed from 1975 to 2020. We reviewrecent advances in cancer genomics which have revealed 4 distinct subgroups of medulloblastomas, as well asthe importance of molecular biology on the development of new treatment features. We aim not only to answer the question: WHAT were the most cited publications, but also to approach the question of WHY the most-cited sources were so.

Background: There is a vast amount of published articles, centered on tethered cord syndrome, which is related to a constellation of diverse pathological entities, included under the term occult spinal dysraphism. Objective: To present the 100 most-cited articles dedicated to the entity of tethered cord syndrome and to present a comprehensive review of the relevant literature. Methods: In April 2020, we executed a title- focused search using Thomson Reuters Web of Science database in order to identify the most cited articles relevant to tethered cord syndrome. Consequently, we reviewed the results to certify that they were relevant to the criteria of our research protocol. The 100 most cited papers were chosen and further analyzed. Results: Our search resulted in 769 articles, published from 1976 until now. All of them combined, have been cited 5.340 times, in a total of 2.097 different articles, with an average citation per item of 53.4.The most cited article was published by Yamada S., in 1981, while the last in our list was published by Walton, M et al in 1995. Conclusions: We distinguished the top 100 most-cited articles dedicated to tethered cord syndrome, all of which are demonstrating important aspects and conclusions, being well-supported and methodologically fully adequate. We also reviewed the relevant evolution of the concept of management and the knowledge of the natural history, as well as new data in tethered cord syndrome research, alongside with the relevant contributions of different authors, fields of special interest, and countries.

Background: There is a large amount of articles centered on ependymoma. Objective: To present the 100 most-cited articles on ependymoma and to perform a bibliometric analysis. Methods: We performed a search on January 2020, using Thomson Reuters Web of Science database to identify the most noteworthy papers about ependymomas, without publication date restrictions. The top 100 most cited articles were detected and reviewed. Results: Our search resulted in 4.254 articles, published from 1975 until now (January 2020). All articles are in English. All of them combined have been cited 10.128 times, in 4.531 different articles, with an average citation per item of 101.28. The article that was accompanied by the greatest citation count was published by Taylor, MD, et al in 2005. The paper has received 532 citations, with an average of 33,25 citations per year. Conclusions: A large proportion of the most cited articles were neither written by authors that were neurosurgeons, nor were published in neurosurgery journals. The review provided an excellent opportunity to summarize the historical development and advances achieved in the field of ependymoma and the important contributions of different authors, specialty fields, and countries.

Objective: This study evaluated the bibliometric data of the most common publication types of the neuroimaging literature.Methods: PubMed was searched to identify all published papers with “neuroimaging” as their MeSH Major Topics, and they were further searched by the following publication types: case report, clinical trial, comparative study, editorial, evaluation study, guideline, meta-analysis, multicenter study, randomized controlled trial, review, technical report, and validation study. The proportion of papers belonging to each publication type published in neuroimaging journals was calculated. Year-adjusted mean citation counts for each publication type were computed using data from Web of Science. Publication trend and its correlation with citation performance were assessed.Results: Review and comparative study were the most common publication types. Publication types with the highest proportion in neuroimaging journals were guideline, validation study, and technical reports. Since the year 2000, multicenter study, review, and meta-analysis showed the strongest linear increase in annual publication count. These publication types also had the highest year-adjusted citation counts (4.7–10.0). Publication types with the lowest year-adjusted citation counts were editorial and case report (0.5–1.0). It was estimated that 12.5% of the publications labeled as case reports were incorrectly labeled.Conclusions: Neuroimaging literature has been expanding with papers of higher levels of evidence, such as meta-analyses, multicenter studies, and randomized controlled trials.

Background: The insula is one of the most researched brain regions with many highly cited papers. However, unlike the literature of other fields, there is currently no study that has identified the 100 most cited papers within the literature of the insula. The aim of the current study was to fill in the knowledge gap by determining which publications concerning the insula have been cited most often, who contributed to them, and what topics they were dealing with.Methods: The Web of Science online database was searched to identify the 100 most cited publications mentioning the insular cortex in their titles, abstracts or keywords. To systematically exclude irrelevant publications, the search strategy was finalized as: TS = (insula OR insular OR “island of Reil”) NOT TS = (“insular biogeography” OR “insular mammal*” OR “*insular lymphatic*”) NOT WC = (“Geochemistry and Geophysics” OR “Ecology”). The identified publications were sorted in descending order of citation count. The 100 most cited publications concerning the insula of the brain were identified and their bibliometric data was extracted and assessed. The VOSviewer software was used with default parameters to generate a bubble map that analyzes and visualizes the words/phrases used in the titles and abstracts of the publications.Results: There were 67 articles on experiments/lab studies and 33 meta-analyses/reviews but no opinion or methods paper. They had an average of 943.4 citations (or 62.9 citations per year), 93.5 references and 13.4 pages. There were 35 papers published in open access. USA was the major contributing country. The most top-ranked publications were concerning emotion, salience and pain.Conclusion: Two-thirds of the publications concerned the normal brain function/mechanism (n = 67), whereas 20 publications concerned disease/therapeutic intervention and another 13 concerned normal anatomy. For the 67 original articles, 57 used human subjects whereas 10 used animal models. MRI was the commonest modality (n = 37), followed by PET (n = 16). Nine articles investigated by histology, two by multiple modalities and three by other modality.

Netflix has shaken up audiovisual industry, but what about academic research? This bibliometric analysis focuses on 210 papers indexed in Web of Science that address this issue. We examine the author, university of affiliation, language, journal, keywords, year of publication, citations received, and categories covered in WoS. We also conducted a quantitative analysis of abstracts and papers to identify the most recurrent methodologies, themes, and samples. Our results highlight a rise in Netflix studies in recent years and their tendency to analyse specific audiovisual works. There are many qualitative analysis of specific Netflix hits, but none of the shows particularly stands out. It also shows a rise in “Communication” and “Film, Radio & Television” papers (40% of them), although academic interest relies on Netflix corporate culture, business, and algorithm. These studies are mainly carried out using a qualitative methodology (83%). More than half of the articles focus on one of the Netflix series and, among them, the greatest interest lies in the representation of specific issues; gender, race and sexuality are present in 25% of the works in the sample (n=210). At the same time, among the 367 authors signing these research papers, the parity between men (51%) and women (49%) is almost absolute. It appears that the geographical and linguistic variety of papers is related to Netflix’s global expansion and that the sheer number of titles covered reveals a fleeting attention due to Netflix’s trademark: swift and concentrated consumption.

Background/purpose: Lichen planus (LP) is a representative mucocutaneous disease involving oral mucosa and skin. The aim of this study was to compare the scientometric characteristics of LP publications in stomatology and dermatology journals. Materials and methods: All the papers on LP were comprehensively searched and then ones published in stomatology and dermatology journals were retrieved. Results: Among all the 5633 papers on LP, 1344 (23.9%) and 2528 (44.9%) were published in stomatology and dermatology journals, respectively. Among the most-cited top-100 papers, 58 and 30 were published in stomatology and dermatology journals, respectively. Moreover, citation count (11,908) and citation density (640.2) of the 58 stomatology publications were obviously higher than the 2 numbers (5096, 260.3) of the 30 dermatology publications. Based on the frequency of research keywords, the distinctive keywords such as malignant transformation, precancerous, genetics, genotype, gene expression, saliva, blood, cytokines, smoking, anxiety, and depression were identified in stomatology publications. On the other side, hyperkeratosis, hyperpigmentation, erythema, epiluminescence microscopy, and dermoscopy were identified in dermatology publications. Furthermore, drug research including drug withdrawal, drug safety, and drug dose reduction with a dozen of drugs are frequent keywords in dermatology but not in stomatology publications. Conclusion: The distinctive keywords of LP publications in stomatology and dermatology journals correspond to the research priority in stomatology and dermatology. We hope that the observations of this analysis will aid clinicians and investigators in promoting mutual understanding and more reciprocal cooperation regarding LP in stomatology and dermatology.

Purpose – Passive investing has established itself as the dominant force in the world of professionally managed assets, surpassing the concept of index funds. Its meteoric rise is fueled by investors’ preference for its dual benefits of strong diversification and low cost. A comprehensive study of the economic model, addressed areas and market structure has not yet been conducted, despite the existence of numerous studies on more specific topics. To address this gap, this paper examines 943 articles on passive investing published between 1998 and 2022 in SCOPUS and Web of Science. Design/methodology/approach – The study utilizes the most pertinent tools for conducting a systematic review by the PRISMA framework. This article is the result of SLR and extensive bibliometric analysis. Contextualized systematic literature review is used to screen and select bibliographic data, which is then subjected to a variety of bibliometric analyses. The study provides a bibliometric overview of works on passive investment research that are indexed in Scopus and Web of Science. Bibliometrix, VoS Viewer and Cite Space are the tools used to conduct content and network analysis, to ascertain the present state of research, as well as its focus and direction. Findings – Our exhaustive analysis yields important findings. One, the previous decade has witnessed a substantial increase in the number of publications and citations; in particular, the inter-disciplinary and international scope of related research has expanded; Second, the top three clusters on “active versus passive funds,” “price discovery and market structures” and “exchange-traded funds (ETFs) as an alternative” account for more than fifty percent of the domain’s knowledge; Third, “Leveraged ETFs (LETFs)” and “environmental, social and governance (ESG)” are the two emerging themes in the passive investing research. Fourth, despite its many benefits, passive investing is not suitable for everyone. To get the most out of what passive investing has to offer, investors, intermediaries and regulators must all exercise sufficient caution. Our study makes a substantial contribution to the field by conducting a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the existing literature, highlighting key findings and implications, as well as future research directions. Research limitations/implications – While the study contributes significantly to the field of knowledge, it has several limitations that must be considered when interpreting its findings and implications. With our emphasis on academic journals, the study analyzed only peer-reviewed journal articles, excluding conference papers, reports and technical articles. While we are confident that our approach resulted in a comprehensive and representative database, our reliance on Elsevier Scopus and Web of Science may have resulted in us overlooking relevant work accessible only through other databases. Additionally, specific bibliometric properties may not be time-stable, and certain common distribution patterns of the passive investing literature may still be developing. Practical implications – With this study, it has been possible to observe and chart the high growth trajectory of passive investing research globally, especially post-US subprime crisis. Despite the widespread adoption of passive investing as an investment strategy, it is not a one-size-fits-all proposition. Market conditions change constantly, and it frequently requires an informed eye to determine when and how much to shift away from active investments and toward passive ones. Currency ETFs enable investors to implement a carry trade strategy in their portfolios; however, as a word of caution, currency stability and liquidity can play a significant role in international ETFs. Similarly, LETFs may be better suited for dynamic strategies and offer less value to a long-term investor. Lastly, the importance of investor education cannot be underestimated in the name of the highly diversified portfolio when using passive alternatives, for which necessary efforts are required by regulators and investors alike. Social implications – The inexorable trend to passive investing creates numerous issues for fund management, including fee and revenue pressure, which forces traditional managers to seek new revenue streams, such as illiquid and private assets, which also implies increased portfolio risk. Additionally, the increased transparency and efficiency associated with the ETF market indicates that managers must rethink the entire value chain, beginning with technology and the way investments interact. Passive investments have triggered changes in market structure that are still not fully understood or factored in. Active management and a range of valuation opinions on whether a price is “too low” or “too high” provide much-needed depth to a market as it attempts to strike a delicate balance between demand and supply forces, ensuring liquidity at all price points. Purpose – Most papers and books on conducting literature reviews primarily emphasize achieving technical quality, ensuring reproducibility and validating results. Notwithstanding the need for technical excellence, there is also a need for relevance. The purpose of this study is to address that need and offer practical and constructive suggestions for enhancing the meaningful contribution of a literature review, thereby increasing its impact and relevance for publication. Design/methodology/approach – In this conceptual paper, the authors explore strategies to enhance the relevance and contribution of a literature review. By clarifying the needs of diverse audiences and the principles of generating new insights, the authors provide a broad range of options without being prescriptive. Recognizing that every literature review is unique, this paper contrasts various approaches to offer flexible and adaptable guidance. Findings – Literature reviews can be enjoyable to read and write, offering a wide range of substantial contributions that meet the expectations of readers and journal editors. This paper offers practical suggestions for prospective authors to make their reviews more relevant, invaluable and engaging, and summarizes these suggestions in a comprehensive checklist. Research limitations/implications – The paper is not exhaustive but rather complements prevalent literature review methodologies. Originality/value – Existing literature offers limited guidance on enhancing a review’s contribution to science, academic inquiry and society. This paper fills that gap by providing both academic considerations and practical recommendations, drawing on the author’s extensive experience in reviewing and conducting literature reviews. Background/purpose: The diagnosis and treatment of Sjogren's syndrome (SS) are commonly conducted by rheumatologists and stomatologists. The purpose of this study was to compare the scientometric characteristics of SS publications by rheumatologists and stomatologists. Materials and methods: All the papers on cheilitis were comprehensively retrieved from the Scopus database, and divided into rheumatologists and stomatologists groups. Results: There were 3245 and 1209 papers on SS were published by rheumatologists and stomatologists, respectively. For the most-cited top-200 papers, the total citation count was 29,764 and the h index was 108 for SS publications by rheumatologists; whereas the count is 19,891 and h index is 81 for publications by stomatologists. Interestingly, we observed that accumulated citations of the publications by stomatologists cooperated with rheumatologists were larger than those by stomatologists alone during 2012–2022. The more common keywords such as saliva, salivation, minor salivary glands, parotid gland, submandibular gland, sialography, lip, dental caries, and hyposalivation were reported by stomatologists. The more frequent keywords such as rheumatoid factor, fatigue, lymphoma, interstitial lung disease, arthralgia, Raynaud phenomenon, lymphadenopathy, and vasculitis were reported by rheumatologists. Conclusion: This study firstly reports the scientometric characteristics of SS publications by rheumatologists and stomatologists. The scale and citations of rheumatologists' publications greatly outweigh those of stomatologists, suggesting stomatologists can cooperate more with rheumatologists regarding SS research.

Abstract This research aims to enlighten current and future research trends on political connections by providing complete bibliometric mapping through network studies on political connections. Utilizing Biblioshiny, the Bibliometrics R package, multi-perspective research publications on political connections from 2003 to the third quarter of 2023 were discovered and analyzed. This bibliometric analysis provides valuable insights regarding current and future publications on political connections. The most prolific contributors, the most used keywords, the most productive countries and sources, the most cited publications, and the most productive sources of information are network analysis data about co-occurrence networks. The discourse revolves around issue mapping data on political connection studies. The search method used to find related literature is the Scopus database. This research contributes valuable information to help other researchers map ongoing and future investigations into political connections. This bibliometric analysis of 294 documents is the first regarding political connections known to researchers. This evaluation emphasizes annual publication trends, authors, publications, countries, organizations, and most productive sources, determining potential future research objectives. The research on political connections was published in early 2003. No papers were released on this subject for 3 years after 2003 (2003–2005), which shows that the growth of this academic field slowed down for ten years. There were significant changes in 2011, and many more linked papers have been released. Authors from the USA and China significantly contributed to the initial scientific journal papers on their political connections. Hong Kong, China, and Australia are recognized as leading nations in scholarly contributions to studying political connections. Chinese scholars spearheaded the collaborative publication effort focused on political connections, with the USA and Australian experts following suit. Based on indexed terms, political connections, sustainable development, and financial performance are trending keywords. These results show possible directions for further research into political connections.

Abstract This paper aims to investigate government policy intervention for mitigating the impacts of COVID-19 on small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This paper has utilized a methodology comprising of bibliometrics, network, and content analyses on 831 documents extracted from the Scopus database to explore the extant literature on this domain. A systematic literature review has also been performed to propose the government policy intervention during the crisis framework. The analysis and review discerned that government policy interventions yielding the greatest success display a pronounced industry focus, regardless of a country’s economic context. Notably efficacious interventions encompass government support for market access and promotion, regulatory flexibility, wage subsidies, supply chain bolstering, sustainable long-term support, training and development, digitization aid, and industry-specific access to credit and capital. Collaborative efforts between governments and financial institutions also proved instrumental in expediting SME recovery. Furthermore, initiatives like knowledge-sharing, capacity-building, digitalization of SMEs, and crisis management training played pivotal roles in ensuring SME survival during the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper has also provided guidelines for future research direction.

BackgroundThis article employs bibliometric methods and visual maps to delineate the research background, collaborative relationships, hotspots, and trends in the study of gut fungi in human diseases and health.MethodsPublications related to human gut fungi were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection. VOSviewer, CiteSpace, R software and Microsoft Excel were employed to generate visual representations illustrating the contributions made by countries/regions, authors, organizations, and journals. Employing VOSviewer and CiteSpace, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of the retrieved publications, revealing underlying tendencies, research hotspots, and intricate knowledge networks.ResultsThis study analyzed a total of 3,954 publications. The United States ranks first in the number of published papers and has the highest number of citations and h-index. Mostafa S Elshahed is the most prolific author. The University of California System is the institution that published the most papers. Frontiers In Microbiology is the journal with the largest number of publications. Three frequently co-cited references have experienced a citation burst lasting until 2024.ConclusionAdvancements in sequencing technologies have intensified research into human gut fungi and their health implications, shifting the research focus from gut fungal infections towards microbiome science. Inflammatory bowel diseases and Candida albicans have emerged as pivotal areas of interest in this endeavor. Through this study, we have gained a deeper insight into global trends and frontier hotspots within this field, thereby enhancing our understanding of the intricate relationship between gut fungi and human health.

Education is one of the many sectors in which augmented reality has been successfully implemented. To determine how Augmented Reality (AR) supports education, this bibliometric study analyzes 1734 articles extracted from the Scopus database between 2010 and mid-2023. The study aimed to determine patterns in productivity, authorship and collaboration patterns, publications, citation structures, general research tendencies, and bibliographic coupling. Biblioshiny and VOSviewer were employed in this investigation. The outcomes of the study indicate an ongoing trend of increasing publication counts or more contributions since 2016, and still a trending topic studies on interactive learning environments and AR in education and knowledge constitute niche areas, while epidemiology, science education, and mobile augmented reality are important research topics that were underdeveloped and indicate a relationship that is both emerging and declining, based on a thematic analysis of the papers. Furthermore, the outcomes demonstrate that the USA, Spain, and the United Kingdom have the strongest global cooperation despite the USA writing more articles. To offer an ideal road map for scholars who would like to carry out research in this area, this paper also looks at the trendsetting in augmented reality in education.

From the molecular to the cellular to the tissue level, vascular aging is regulated by a complex network involving numerous mechanisms and diseases, and our knowledge of any one level is incomplete and biased. To date, due to the diversity and complexity of the influencing factors, no international standard has been established. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to analyze the global research trends and potential hotspots related to vascular aging. We extracted the relevant publications between January 2003 and December 2023 from the Web of Science Core Collection. VOSviewer and CiteSpace software were used to quantitatively and qualitatively analyze the authors, countries, institutions, and journals in the field of vascular aging. The total number of publications on vascular aging between January 2003 and December 2023 was 1044, showing a steady increase. The United States and the University of Oklahoma published the highest number of research papers in the field. Ungvari Zoltan from the University of Oklahoma was the most productive author (47 papers) on vascular aging, specializing in endothelial cell failure, microcirculation, and aging. Burst detection of keywords revealed that endothelial dysfunction and vascular smooth muscle cells had the highest burst strength, suggesting that these are the current research hot spots in vascular aging research. In conclusion, senescence-associated secretory phenotype, reactive oxygen species, genetic instability, and an imbalance of protein homeostasis, trigger an inflammatory response that affects vascular endothelial and smooth muscle cell function, ultimately leading to vascular aging. This research provides insights into recent advances and preventive strategies in the field of vascular aging.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to use visual mapping and bibliometric analysis to summarize valuable information on the tumor microenvironment (TME)-related research on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the past 20 years and to identify the research hotspots and trends in this field.MethodsWe screened all of the relevant literature on the TME of HCC in the Web of Science database from 2003 to 2023 and analysed the research hotspots and trends in this field via VOSviewer and CiteSpace.ResultsA total of 2,157 English studies were collected. According to the prediction, the number of papers that were published in the past three years will be approximately 1,394, accounting for 64.63%. China published the most papers (n=1,525) and had the highest total number of citations (n=32,253). Frontiers In Immunology published the most articles on the TME of HCC (n=75), whereas, Hepatology was the journal with the highest total number of citations (n=4,104) and average number of citations (n=91). The four clusters containing keywords such as “cancer-associated fibroblasts”, “hepatic stellate cells”, “immune cells”, “immunotherapy”, “combination therapy”, “landscape”, “immune infiltration”, and “heterogeneity” are currently hot research topics in this field. The keywords “cell death”, “ferroptosis”, “biomarkers”, and “prognostic features” have emerged relatively recently, and these research directions are becoming increasingly popular.ConclusionsWe identified four key areas of focus in the study of the TME in HCC: the main components and roles in the TME, immunotherapy, combination therapy, and the microenvironmental landscape. Moreover, the result of our study indicate that effect of ferroptosis on the TME in HCC may become a future research trend.

BackgroundEpigenetics denotes heritable alterations in gene expression patterns independent of changes in DNA sequence. Epigenetic therapy seeks to reprogram malignant cells to a normal phenotype and has been extensively investigated in oncology. This study conducts a bibliometric analysis of epigenetic therapy in cancer, providing a comprehensive overview of current research, identifying trends, and highlighting key areas of investigation.MethodsPublications concerning epigenetic inhibitors in cancer spanning 2004 to 2023 were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Co-occurrence analysis using VOSviewer assessed current status and focal points. Evolutionary trends and bursts in the knowledge domain were analyzed using CiteSpace. Bibliometrix facilitated topic evolution and revealed trends in keywords. National, institutional, and author affiliations and collaborations were also examined.ResultsA total of 2,153 articles and reviews on epigenetic therapy in oncology were identified, demonstrating a consistent upward trend over time. The United States (745 papers), University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center (57 papers), and Stephen B. Baylin (27 papers) emerged as the most productive country, institution, and author, respectively. Keyword co-occurrence analysis identified five primary clusters: tumor, DNA methylation, epigenetic therapy, expression, and immunotherapy. In the past 5 years, newly emerging themes with increased centrality and density include “drug resistance,” “immunotherapy,” and “combination therapy.” The most cited publication reviewed current understanding of potential causes of epigenetic diseases and proposed future therapeutic strategies.ConclusionIn the past two decades, the importance of epigenetic therapy in cancer research has become increasingly prominent. The United States occupies a key position in this field, while China, despite having published a large number of related papers, still has relatively limited influence. Current research focuses on the “combination therapy” of epigenetic drugs. Future studies should further explore the sequencing and scheduling of combination therapies, optimize trial designs and dosing regimens to improve clinical efficacy.

BackgroundAs one of several refractive surgeries, Implant Collamer Lens (ICL) surgery offers stable biocompatibility and consistent, high-quality visual outcomes. ICL has become an effective complement to corneal refractive surgery, gradually becoming one of the mainstream methods for correcting refractive errors. This study employs bibliometric methods to analyze research on ICL surgery to understand the progress, hotspots, and potential future trends in this field.MethodsThis study performed a bibliometric analysis of all ICL-related articles collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database between January 1st, 1996, and December 31st, 2023. The CiteSpace 6.2.R4 tool, Excel and the Web of Science website were used to analyze data by country, institution, keywords, and clusters of keywords. Additionally, an in-depth interpretation and analysis were conducted on the field’s high-impact articles.ResultsSince the first clinical application report of ICL, there have been a total of 875 studies. The number of papers published annually has shown an overall increasing trend. Studies published from China are the most numerous, accounting for 29.14% (n = 255) of the total. Among the institutions, Fudan University and Kitasato University both have published more than 50 papers, with Kitasato University having the highest H-index of 26. The journals with the top 10 publication volumes are all specialized in ophthalmology. The burst keywords since the introduction of ICL surgery have been “intraocular lens,” “refractive surgery,” and “cataract surgery.” The current burst keywords include “visual quality,” “vector analysis,” “axial length,” etc. The results of keyword clustering included ICL, pIOL, high myopia, axial length, optical quality, refractive surgery, ICL implantation, and pupil size. In the High-impact Articles, it was found that the high-impact articles predominantly focus on the safety, efficacy, and predictability of ICL surgery.ConclusionResearch on ICL has grown since its clinical introduction, with the advent of the central hole ICL sparking a surge in recent hotspots, particularly in China. Current hotpots in the field of ICL surgery are “visual quality,” “ICL implantation,” “vector analysis,” “axial length,” “evo ICL,” “ICL v4c,” and “ICL.” ICL surgery research trends have evolved from implantation techniques to biological parameters associated with ICL surgery and the benefits of new ICL designs.

Abstract Technology is paving innovative ways to provide financial services and improve the efficiency of financial systems. Since it is a dynamic field of research, it is important to look back on the ever-changing field of financial technology. This paper aims to analyse the existing research on financial technology through a bibliometric approach. The data were gathered from the Scopus database using secondary sources, and the analysis is presented descriptively along with science-mapping techniques. This paper offers an overview of the influential journals, authors, and organizations contributing to financial technology research. The study focuses on citation, cocitation, bibliographic coupling, and coauthorship analysis within the collected corpus. It is worth noting that this study is limited by the use of only one database, Scopus and excludes grey literature, this could lead to skewed results but this can be an arena for future research.

Cities hold a critical responsibility for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) due to their high population density, extensive resource consumption, and significant economic contributions. To examine the present state of understandings regarding urban sustainability (SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities) within Chinese research communities, this study collected 15 950 papers from 1994 to 2022 on the 12 indicators of SDG 11, from the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), a hub of Chinese academic papers, that directly relate to policymaking. Significant research topics on SDG 11 were identified for each indicator using bibliometrics analysis approaches. The high-frequency keywords and clusters of keywords over the last three decades reveal that existing studies primarily concentrated on the physical aspects, such as transportation and environment, while there is a lack of consideration of societal aspects. This indicates a limited and biased understanding of the urban sustainability within the Chinese academic community. Hence, it is crucial to prioritize the societal aspects in order to develop a research agenda that further advances urban sustainability.

BackgroundMyocardial infarction (MI), a critical condition, substantially affects patient outcomes and mortality rates. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a critical role in the onset and progression of MI. This study aimed to explore the related research on MI-related lncRNAs from a bibliometric perspective, providing new clues and directions for researchers in the field.MethodsA comprehensive search was conducted on 7 August 2023, using the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database to compile a dataset of all English-language scientific journals. The search gathered all relevant publications from January 2000 to August 2023 that pertain to MI-related lncRNAs. Data on countries, institutions, journals, authors, and keywords were collected, sorted, statistically analyzed, and visualized using CiteSpace 6.2.R4, VOSviewer 1.6.19, an online bibliometric analysis platform (http://bibliometric.com), and the bibliometric package in R-Studio 4.3.1. Articles were screened by two independent reviewersResultsBetween January 2000 and August 2023, a total of 1,452 papers were published in the research field of MI-related lncRNAs. The year with the most publications was 2020, accounting for 256 papers. The publication volume displayed an exponential growth trend, fitting the equation y = 2.0215e0.2786x, R^2 = 0.97. In this domain, China leads in both the number of published papers (N = 1,034) and total citations, followed by the United States, Germany, Iran, and Italy. The most productive institution is Harbin Medical University (N = 144). The European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences had the highest number of publications (N = 46), while Circulation Research had the most citations (TC = 4,537), indicating its irreplaceable standing in this field. Research mainly focuses on the cardiovascular system, cellular biology, physiology, etc. The most productive author is Zhang Y. Apart from “Myocardial Infarction” and “LncRNA,” the most frequent keywords include “expression,” “atherosclerosis,” and “apoptosis.” Cluster analysis suggests current research themes concentrate on cardiovascular diseases and gene expression, cardiac ischemia/reperfusion injury and protection, expression and proliferation, atherosclerosis and inflammatory response, among others. Keyword bursts indicate recent hot topics as targeting, autophagy, etc.ConclusionThis bibliometric analysis reveals that research on MI-related lncRNAs has rapidly expanded between January 2000 and August 2023, primarily led by China and the United States. Our study highlights the significant biological roles of lncRNAs in the pathogenesis and progression of MI, including their involvement in gene expression regulation, atherosclerosis development, and apoptosis. These findings underscore the potential of lncRNAs as therapeutic targets and biomarkers for MI. Additionally, our study provides insights into the features and quality of related publications, as well as the future directions in this research field. There is a long road ahead, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced global academic exchange.

Freshwater resources are scarce globally, and the increase in carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration leads to both a decrease in soil moisture and arid climate, further limiting agricultural production. Therefore, it is critical to achieve water efficiency in agriculture under elevated CO2 concentration. A comprehensive analysis was conducted on the research topic of efficient agricultural water under elevated CO2 concentration using bibliometric methods. The results show that the number of papers on this research has changed from an accumulation phase (1992–2005, 395) to a growth phase (2006–2023, 963). ''Carbon dioxide'', ''water-stress'', ''growth'', ''photosynthesis'', ''yield'', and other keywords have been the focus of past research in this area. Kimball BA and Ainsworth EA are the most influential authors in this area. Leakey's (2009) paper in “Experimental Botany” was the most contributing study, summarizing six lessons about the effects of CO2 enrichment on the relationship among carbon, nitrogen, and water in plants. The United States and China were the most influential countries. Over time, research has shifted from an early focus on atmospheric CO2 change itself to the response of crops to elevated CO2 in agricultural production. The efficient crop production strategy under the interaction of environmental factors is becoming a hot spot for future research, and the emission and use of greenhouse gases, the improvement of crop quality, and the efficient guidance of models are also worth exploring. Overall, this study presents a quantitative analysis and comprehensive review of past research conducted on the effect of water and fertilizer on agricultural production under CO2 enrichment. It also offers suggestions and expectations for future research on the hot spot direction of efficient crop production under climate change.

Personal human identification is a crucial aspect of modern society with applications spanning from law enforcement to healthcare and digital security. This bibliometric paper presents a comprehensive analysis of recent advances in personal human identification methodologies focusing on biomedical traits. The paper examines a diverse range of research articles, reviews, and patents published over the last decade to provide insights into the evolving landscape of biometric identification techniques. The study categorizes the identified literature into distinct biomedical trait categories, including but not limited to, fingerprint and palmprint recognition, iris and retinal scanning, facial recognition, voice and speech analysis, gait recognition, and DNA-based identification. Through systematic analysis, the paper highlights key trends, emerging technologies, and interdisciplinary collaborations in each category, revealing the interdisciplinary nature of research in this field. Furthermore, the bibliometric analysis examines the geographical distribution of research efforts, identifying prominent countries and institutions contributing to advancements in personal human identification. Collaboration networks among researchers and institutions are visualized to depict the knowledge flow and collaborative dynamics within the field. Overall, this study serves as a valuable reference for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers, shedding light on the current status and potential future directions of personal human identification leveraging biomedical traits.

In our research study spanning 2015-2021, we analyzed Software Engineering (SE) across 15 Knowledge Areas (KAs) outlined by SWEBoK. Using Web of Science (WoS) database, we examined 32,232 articles (2015-2017), 31,459 articles (2018-2020), and 6,919 articles (2021). Collaborative and co-word networks were generated using VOS Viewer. Our findings reveal SE's influence in 81 research areas. English dominated, but Spanish and Portuguese were notable. Europe led in publications, with USA and China prominent. Stronger collaboration networks, especially in the USA and China, correlated with increased research output. Asian countries' rise was evident from 2018-2021. Top 10 highly cited papers and co-word analysis were included, aiding researchers and educators. SE's impact crossed domains, enabling cross-disciplinary research and informing educators' course designs. Institutional and country productivity influenced partnerships and academia-industry collaborations. Multinational companies gauged research potential through active countries. Analyzing co-words depicted trends, and highly cited papers set industry standards. Bibliometric analysis offered qualitative and quantitative research evaluation.

This study undertakes a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of war and terrorism Insurance research spanning from 1914 to 2018. Leveraging tools such as Scopus and VOSviewer, the analysis involves 56 papers to unveil evolving trends and scholarly contributions. Collaborative network maps are employed to illuminate influential authors, top journals, key papers, funding institutions, and affiliations within the domain. One of the key findings of this research is that the volume of published papers on the topic of terrorism insurance is associated with major terrorism events, and there were no published papers on this topic after the year 2018. Significantly, the research underscores the substantial impact of existing studies on understanding the repercussions of war and terrorism Insurance while pinpointing persistent gaps in the field that necessitate further exploration. The originality of this study lies in its novel approach—a thorough bibliometric analysis, filling critical research gaps to offer valuable insights for both practitioners and academics. This study's paramount importance is manifested in its potential to inform and benefit both practitioners and academics alike. By addressing research gaps, the findings contribute to the development of effective strategies for mitigating the risks associated with War and Terrorism Insurance. Essentially, this research not only advances our understanding of the complex domain but also provides practical implications for real-world applications.

This study aims to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis to identify global trends and hotspots in the research related to this surgical approach.Methods: Select articles related to the field that were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) between January 1, 1993 and December 31, 2022. Visualization of networks and in-depth bibliometric analyses, including the number of publications, countries/regions, institutions, journals, authors, keywords, and references, were conducted using VOSviewer and CiteSpace software.Results: A total of 1197 papers were identified over a three-decade period, with the highest production year being 2022, which saw 171 papers published. The most prolific countries/regions were the United States (279) and Harvard Medical School (59). Among journals, Spine (3289 citations) was the most cited, while World Neurosurgery (98 publications) had the highest number of publications. Lewandrowski, Kai-Uwe (29 publications) wrote the most articles, and Ahn, Y (239 citations) ranked first among cited authors. The most frequently used keyword was “discectomy”, but recent years have shown a strong emergence of keywords such as “microendoscopic decompressive laminotomy”, “foraminotomy” and “classification”.Conclusion: The United States and China have emerged as leaders in the field of minimally invasive surgery for LSS. This paper provides a detailed perspective on trends and developments in non-financial reporting research. Several significant aspects are highlighted that reflect the increasing importance given to this topic in the academic community and business practices. The analysis involved a bibliometric examination of a selection of more than 700 papers from papers indexed in the Web of Science database- Clarivate Analytics over 20 years from 2002 to the end of 2022 using the VOSviewer software. The results indicate a significant increase in interest in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting. This trend is consistent with the changes observed in the business environment, where companies recognize their responsibility to manage issues related to the environment, society and governance. The analysis highlights the increased impact of regulations and standards in the field of non-financial reporting. Directives and regulations issued by regulatory authorities and international bodies have helped establish a coherent framework for companies. There is a tendency to integrate non-financial information with traditional financial reporting. This demonstrates the companies’ effort to provide a complete and balanced picture of their performance. We are seeing an increase in requests from companies for assurance and third-party verification of non-financial reporting. This contributes to increasing credibility and trust in the information provided.

As a characteristic representative of the new generation of vehicles, autonomous driving is expected to improve people's driving experience. The study on traffic accident of autonomous vehicles (AVs) helps provide suggestions for autonomous driving safety from multiple disciplines and perspectives, and provide support for formulating traffic accident treatment schemes. Knowledge mapping, as a cutting-edge research method in bibliometrics, scientifically and objectively displays the relevant research status using visual means. This paper uses CiteSpace 6.1.r3 to analyze 5068 related literature on the Web of Science database from 1991 to 2022 and finds out major thematic clusters, important documents and representative journals according to citation frequency. The results show that research on traffic accidents involving AVs focuses on accident preventing technologies, including how to avoid collisions, track lane-position, and enhance vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication. This paper extracts the mean research topics and key points involved in the field and illustrates journals related to AVs and traffic accidents, which provides guidance for subsequent researchers to carry out in-depth research and contribute their papers. Popular journals are in disciplines of mathematics, systems, computer, economics, and social science. This paper also suggests scholars to consider the aspects of scene reconstruction, cause analysis, and injury of vulnerable road users, so as to investigate traffic accidents and put forward effective treatment schemes to reduce AV accidents, and ultimately improve road safety.

Objectives: The aim of this analysis was to investigate the historical development, current status, and research hot spots related to maxillary protraction in the treatment of maxillary hypoplasia. Methods: The term “TS = maxillary protraction” was used to search for articles in the Web of Science Core Collection at the library of Capital Medical University. The results were analysed using CiteSpace6.2.R1 software, including the examination of annual publication trends and analysis of author, country, institution, and keywords. Results: A total of 483 papers were included in this study. The annual publications showed an overall increasing trend. The top 5 authors with the most published papers were Lorenzo Franchi, Tiziano Baccetti, Seung-Hak Baek, Paola Cozza, and U Hagg. The top 5 countries with the highest publication counts were the US, Turkey, South Korea, Italy, and China. The top 5 institutions in terms of the number of published papers were the University of Florence, the University of Michigan, Kyung Hee University, Seoul National University, and Gazi University. The top 3 journals with the most citations were the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, Angle Orthodontist, and the European Journal of Orthodontics. Furthermore, “Maxillary protraction,” “Class III malocclusion,” and “Maxillary expansion” were the most common keywords. Conclusions: The effective age range for maxillary protraction has been expanded with the introduction of skeletal anchorage and the combination of maxillary expansion and protraction. Skeletal anchorage offers significant advantages over dental anchorage, but there is a need for further research to further substantiate its stability and safety. In recent years, the positive effects of maxillary protraction on the nasopharyngeal area have been well established, but its impact on the oropharyngeal area remains a topic of debate. Therefore, it is crucial to conduct further investigations into the effects of maxillary protraction on the oropharyngeal area and explore the factors that influence different outcomes.

Here, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of the literature in the field of microRNAs in PTC research to demonstrate current trends and research hotspots, and present a visual map of past and emerging trends.Methods: We searched the Web of Scientific Core Collection (WoSCC) database for publications from 1999 to 2023 centered on this field. Next, we employed visualization tools such as VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and Microsoft Excel 2019 to present co-occurrence and co-citation analyses, trends, hotspots, and visual representations of contributions from authors, institutions, journals, and countries/regions.Results: The bibliometric analysis encompassed the period from 1999 to 2023, with 994 papers from 54 countries/regions. The country with the most publications and highest total citations was the People’s Republic of China, but the United States held the highest average citation rate. Among the top ten productive institutions, the Ohio State University (Ohio State Univ) was the most prominent contributor to this field. The JOURNAL OF CLINICAL ENDOCRINOLOGY & METABOLISM (J Clin Endocrinol Metab) ranked first in terms of citation counts and average citations among the top ten productive journals. In terms of keywords, “circular RNAs”, “promotes”, and “progression” have become prominent research areas.Conclusion: This study elucidates current trends, hotspots, and emerging frontiers in miRNA research within PTC, and provides new insights and guidance for future identification of new PTC biomarkers and clinical trials.Keywords: microRNAs, papillary thyroid cancer, bibliometric, VOSviewer, CiteSpace

Introduction In the new globalized world, noise pollution has started to become a public health problem. We searched for publications about noise pollution in our study. In our study, we examined the noise pollution articles in the Web of Science (WoS) database. Material and Methods A total of 2722 papers were identified which were published between 2001 and 2020, finally, 1815 articles were analyzed. VOSviewer (version 1.6.11) tool used for bibliometric web visualizations. Results When trend analysis was applied to the number of articles by years, a statistically significant increase was detected. The United States contributed the most publications. The countries with the most articles per million population were determined to be Scotland, Singapore, and Ireland, respectively. Most articles on noise pollution were published in the journal Applied Acoustics. The three most used keywords are “noise pollution”, “noise” and “traffic noise”. Conclusions This study showed that there has been a trend of an increasing number of articles on noise pollution in recent years. Also it can be considered that this bibliometric study will help identify gaps in the current research data.

Abstract Objectives To describe the current trends and key themes that are shaping the literature surrounding papillary thyroid carcinoma. Methods The Thomson Reuters Web of Science citation database was used to identify manuscripts relevant to papillary thyroid carcinoma. These were then subdivided into title, author, journal, publication date, theme, and manuscript types. Themes were then identified. Results A total of 1506 manuscripts were returned. The mean citation number was 163 (range 885–74), with the highest citation rate of 73.5. The highest impact factor was JAMA (impact factor of 56.27). 85% were original research, 10% review articles, and 5% were guidelines. The highest number of manuscripts were published in South Korea (21%). Conclusions This bibliometric analysis describes the most influential papers published in the topic of papillary thyroid carcinoma. Historic key themes have been endocrinology and metabolism, followed by surgical management and oncology (subdivided into surgery, pathology, radiology and public health/epidemiology). South Korea leads the world with the largest number of publications in this field; with an incidence rate of papillary thyroid carcinoma that is significantly higher than most parts of the world. Despite concerns with overdiagnosis, a collaborative radiological team skilled in ultrasonography of the neck appears to be of great value to the workup of thyroid cancers.

ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to investigate the current research status, focus areas, and developmental trends in the field of Myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD) through an analysis of scientific literature.MethodsThe relevant research articles on MOGAD published from 1947 to 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science database. The quantitative output of MOGAD related research articles, their distribution by country/region, data on collaborative publishing, influential authors, high-yield institutions, keywords, hotspots, and development trends were analyzed. Additionally, visual knowledge maps were generated using VOSviewer and Citespace.ResultsThere has been a steady increase in the number of MOGAD related publications indicating that the subject has garnered increasing interest among researchers globally. The United States has been the leading contributor with 496 papers (19.25%), followed by China (244, 9.63%), Japan (183, 7.10%), the United Kingdom (154, 5.98%), and Germany (149, 5.78%). Among these countries, the United Kingdom boasts the highest citation frequency at the rate of 46.49 times per paper. Furthermore, active collaboration in MOGAD related research is observed primarily between the United States and countries such as Canada, Germany, Australia, Italy, the United Kingdom and Japan. Mayo Clinic ranks first in total articles published (109) and frequency of citations per article (77.79). Takahashi Toshiyuki from Tohoku University is the most prolific author, while Multiple Sclerosis and Related Disorders is the most widely read journal in this field. “Disease Phenotype”, “Treatment”, “Novel Coronavirus Infection and Vaccination”, “Immunopathological Mechanisms”, “Clinical characteristics of children” and “Prognosis” are the primary keywords clusters in this field. “Novel Coronavirus Infection and Vaccination” and “Immunopathological Mechanisms” are research hotspots and have great development potential.ConclusionThe past three decades have witnessed a significant expansion of research on MOGAD. The pathogenetic mechanism of MOGAD is poised to be the prominent research focus in this field in the foreseeable future.

This bibliometric research aimed to identify the most influential papers on the adductor canal blocks and outline their characteristics.Methods: All articles published from 1980 to 2022 were included in the Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus databases and found using the keywords “Adductor canal block” or “Saphenous nerve block” or “Peripheral nerve block” or “Hunter canal block” or “Subsartorial canal block” or “ACB” or “Knee” or “TKR” or “TKA” or “Analgesia” or “Arthroplasty” or “Replacement” in the title section had bibliometric analysis performed. The first 25 papers were selected and analyzed by the number of citations. The correlation between numerical variables was evaluated using the Pearson Correlation coefficient.Results: Literature screening found 252 publications. One hundred ten were only about the adductor canal block. Of these, 25 articles were selected for our bibliometric study, published in 8 different journals and with a total number of citations equal to 1.457. “Regional Anesthesia and pain medicine” journal – with 9 articles – was the one that produced the most. There was a significant strong correlation between the n. of citations and the citation rate (R = 0.84, p < 0.001).Conclusion: The purpose of this study is to be a guide on regional anesthesia and, particularly, on adductor canal block, making the most effective as well as the most cited articles available to anesthesiologists or other researchers interested in this topic.Keywords: adductor canal block, peripheral nerve block, bibliometric, TKA, TKR, analgesia

AIM: To explore the latest application of artificial intelligence (AI) in optical coherence tomography (OCT) images, and to analyze the current research status of AI in OCT, and discuss the future research trend. METHODS: On June 1, 2023, a bibliometric analysis of the Web of Science Core Collection was performed in order to explore the utilization of AI in OCT imagery. Key parameters such as papers, countries/regions, citations, databases, organizations, keywords, journal names, and research hotspots were extracted and then visualized employing the VOSviewer and CiteSpace V bibliometric platforms. RESULTS: Fifty-five nations reported studies on AI biotechnology and its application in analyzing OCT images. The United States was the country with the largest number of published papers. Furthermore, 197 institutions worldwide provided published articles, where University of London had more publications than the rest. The reference clusters from the study could be divided into four categories: thickness and eyes, diabetic retinopathy (DR), images and segmentation, and OCT classification. CONCLUSION: The latest hot topics and future directions in this field are identified, and the dynamic evolution of AI-based OCT imaging are outlined. AI-based OCT imaging holds great potential for revolutionizing clinical care.

Abstract Extracellular vesicles (EVs) in the field of spinal cord injury (SCI) have garnered significant attention for their potential applications in diagnosis and therapy. However, no bibliometric assessment has been conducted to evaluate the scientific progress in this area. A search of articles in Web of Science (WoS) from January 1, 1991, to May 1, 2023, yielded 359 papers that were analyzed using various online analysis tools. These articles have been cited 10,842 times with 30.2 times per paper. The number of publications experienced explosive growth starting in 2015. China and the United States led this research initiative. Keywords were divided into 3 clusters, including “Pathophysiology of SCI”, “Bioactive components of EVs”, and “Therapeutic effects of EVs in SCI”. By integrating the average appearing year (AAY) of keywords in VoSviewer with the time zone map of the Citation Explosion in CiteSpace, the focal point of research has undergone a transformative shift. The emphasis has moved away from pathophysiological factors such as “axon”, “vesicle”, and “glial cell” to more mechanistic and applied domains such as “activation”, “pathways”, “hydrogels” and “therapy”. In conclusions, institutions are expected to allocate more resources towards EVs-loaded hydrogel therapy and the utilization of innovative materials for injury mitigation.

Scientometric analysis is a useful tool that utilizes bibliometric data to measure scientific output of a disease or region in a particular field. In this report, we comprehensively provide bibliometric characteristics of all the papers on betel quid (BQ)-related cancer and precancerous lesions. There are 1403 papers on BQ-related cancer and precancerous lesions published until 2022 in the Scopus database. China (mainland and Taiwan region), India, United States, and United Kingdom contribute 1214 (86.5%) papers and 34,120 (91.9%) citations of all the papers. The number (457), citations (14,573), and h index (60) of the papers originated from Taiwan region stably remain in the first. The most frequent research keyword is arecoline, followed by drug, prevalence, metabolism, carcinogenesis, and pathology. Areca nut and BQ cessation program by Taiwan government has demonstrated a significant positive impact on oral cancer prevention. Collectively, the scientific output of BQ-related cancer and precancerous field represents distinct regional characteristic. BQ-related cancer prevention is still a long way off. Encouragingly, Taiwan region is well ahead in this way.

Research on the topic of illegal abortion is quite a concern, but more discussed macro in a legal point of view and health policy. Micro-analysis with a similar topic has been conducted on a limited basis with the background of the issue of illegality which cannot prevent abortion behavior. This study aims to analyze the scientific literature to find general trends and analyze indicators related to the topic of behavior from illegal abortion practices around the world. This paper uses a bibliometric methodology, utilizing data taken from the Scopus database from 1968 to 2021, and visualizing the data using the VOSviewer. 310 papers from different nations were uncovered in the investigation. When the study's findings are compared to the total number of citations and related publications, it becomes clear that the United States and the United Kingdom continue to dominate research on illegal abortion activity. The great majority of articles on this topic are mostly in the social science sector. By identifying keywords, it can be seen that the majority of research topics continue to center on large-scale issues including abortion, contraception, and unsafe abortion. This study enables us to define unlawful abortion in an individual setting as the behavior a person engages in when deciding to abort a pregnancy, regardless of whether it is carried out by themself, another person, medical professional, health workers, health facilities, or by other parties that deviate from the abortion laws that are in effect in the nation. This study offers crucial conclusions and suggestions for future thematic research opportunities that are sustainable.

This study aims to retrieve journal articles related to Islamic philanthropy over a span of 16 years and propose new pathways for future research. The study involved a bibliometric analysis of 122 publications on the subject registered in the Scopus database from 2007 to 2023. The bibliometric procedure evaluates research performance and progress within an international impact framework, while Biblioshiny-R and VOSviewer visualize overall research trends in Islamic philanthropy. The results of the study show that Indonesia is the country with the most publications related to Islamic philanthropy. Hilman Latief and Fauzia Amalia are the two leading authors in this field based on the total number of publications and citations. The Journal of Muslim Philanthropy and Civil Society is the journal that has published the most papers on this topic. Some of the author's most recent keywords include "islamic charity; muslim philanthropy; sadaqa; ethics of giving; needy; philanthropy; Islam; zakat; charity; muhammadiyah; islamic; sdgs; food security; wealth," which shows a strong current interest in the study of Islamic philanthropy. This paper is useful to academics, organizations, and policymakers in understanding the general picture of the field of Islamic philanthropy and allows future researchers to see where this study started and trace its shifts over time.

Background: Single-cell sequencing (SCS) is a technique used to analyze the genome, transcriptome, epigenome, and other genetic data at the level of a single cell. The procedure is commonly utilized in multiple fields, including neurobiology, immunology, and microbiology, and has emerged as a key focus of life science research. However, a thorough and impartial analysis of the existing state and trends of SCS-related research is lacking. The current study aimed to map the development trends of studies on SCS during the years 2010–2022 through bibliometric software.Methods: Pertinent papers on SCS from 2010 to 2022 were obtained using the Web of Science Core Collection. Research categories, nations/institutions, authors/co-cited authors, journals/co-cited journals, co-cited references, and keywords were analyzed using VOSviewer, the R package “bibliometric”, and CiteSpace.Results: The bibliometric analysis included 9,929 papers published between 2010 and 2022, and showed a consistent increase in the quantity of papers each year. The United States was the source of the highest quantity of articles and citations in this field. The majority of articles were published in the periodical Nature Communications. Butler A was the most frequently quoted author on this topic, and his article “Integrating single-cell transcriptome data across diverse conditions, technologies, and species” has received numerous citations to date. The literature and keyword analysis showed that studies involving single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) were prominent in this discipline during the study period.Conclusion: This study utilized bibliometric techniques to visualize research in SCS-related domains, which facilitated the identification of emerging patterns and future directions in the field. Current hot topics in SCS research include COVID-19, tumor microenvironment, scRNA-seq, and neuroscience. Our results are significant for scholars seeking to identify key issues and generate new research ideas.

The abundance of literature reviews in Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) poses a challenge to making objective, evidence-based decisions due to information diffusion. Few studies systematically summarize these reviews to address this challenge. This study aims to conduct an umbrella review, analyzing existing reviews to identify current trends and enhance our understanding of the GSCM adoption process. A sample of 70 review papers was collected using a systematic approach. Quantitative findings reveal growing publication trends, with China leading in contributions, the Journal of Cleaner Production as the top journal, and Joseph Sarkis as the leading author. Bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer identifies Srivastava's study as the most impactful review paper. Qualitative analysis using NVivo 12 classifies reviews into systematic, narrative, and integrative categories. Additionally, the study presents an integrated framework for understanding GSCM adoption and a green innovation cycle model for sustaining green practices. This research contributes to the literature by providing an umbrella review in the GSCM area, offering classifications based on methodology, and developing practical models for GSCM adoption and sustaining it. The study concludes with implications and identifies areas for future research.

The research interest in the field of green marketing and waste management can be demonstrated through the published literature on the topic. However, there is a paucity of extensive and systematic research focusing on the evolution of this discipline in terms of its citation work. The main objective of this study is to explore the status of scholarly works on green marketing and waste management through a bibliometric citation and networking analysis of papers published from 2012 to 2021. The data was extracted from the Web of Science (WOS) utilizing the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysed (PRISMA) review process. The VOSviewer software was used to visualize the networking linkages. The findings of descriptive analysis showed that publications and citations related to green marketing and waste management are highest in 2021. Likewise, the networking analysis showed that the Science of the Total Environment journal has the highest citation counts, while Wan Yinfeng, Wang Junshi, Xu Guoping and Yi Huang are the authors with the highest citation counts, respectively. The findings also uncovered Sinosteel Wuhan Safety & Environmental Protection Research Institute (WSEPRI) as the most cited institution. Co-authorship and co-occurrence analysis were also found to provide significant discoveries. This study offers future scholars’ knowledge on the analysis of cited journals, papers, authors, institutions, and countries in the same field. Overall, the study serves as a guide for journal editorial boards on the growth among authors and networking opportunities in the field of green marketing and waste management, especially at the international level.

Abstract Background: Social Network Analysis is a method of analyzing coauthorship networks or relationships through graph theory. Institutional Development Award (IDeA) Networks for Clinical and Translational Research (IDeA-CTR) was designed to expand the capability for clinical and translational research to enhance National Institutes of Health funding. Methods: All publications from a cohort of clinical and translational scientists in Oklahoma were collected through a PubMed search for 2014 through 2021 in October 2022. For this study’s bibliometric portion, we pulled the citations from iCite in November of 2022. Results: There were 2,391 articles published in 1,019 journals. The number of papers published by year increased from 56 in 2014 to 448 in 2021. The network had an average of 6.4 authors per paper, with this increasing by year from 5.3 in 2014 to 6.9 in 2021. The average journal impact factor for the overall network was 7.19, with a range from 0.08 to 202.73. The Oklahoma Shared Clinical and Translational Resources (OSCTR) network is a small world network with relatively weak ties. Conclusions: This study provides an overview of coauthorship in an IDeA-CTR collaboration. We show the growth and structure of coauthorship in OSCTR, highlighting the importance of understanding and fostering collaboration within research networks.

Purpose To illustrate the results achieved by genes in premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) and collaborations in the field, and to explore key themes and future directions.Methods Articles and reviews related to POI genes published between 1990 and 2022 were retrieved from the Web of Science core collection (WoSCC) for the total bibliometric analysis. Tools were analyzed for publication, country, institution, journal, authors, reference, keywords, subject categories, funding agencies, and research hotspots using a bibliometric online analysis platform, Bibliographic Co-occurrence Matrix Builder (BICOMB), CiteSpace V, and VOSviewer.Results A total of 2,232 papers were included in this study. Articles were published in 52 countries, with the United States publishing the most, followed by China. A total of 308 institutions contributed to relevant publications. Shandong University published the most papers. Qin Y’s team published the most relevant papers. Human reproduction and fertility and sterility are the two journals with the most papers. X-chromosome abnormalities, transcription factor mutations, and FMR1 genes are the directions of more POI, and DNA repair is the keyword of the research frontier in recent years.Conclusions This study summarizes the relevant literature on POI gene research for the first time and analyzes the current hotspots and future trends in this field. The findings can further reveal the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of POI, which is beneficial for researchers to grasp the genetic dynamics of POI women.

Background Problems: The main focus on improving the performance of volleyball players and teams is through training that covers various aspects. Research Objectives: This study aims to analyse and explain trends and developments in the scientific literature regarding volleyball training over the past five years while identifying the most frequently featured training concepts, methods, and techniques in bibliometric studies in the field over the same period. Methods: Publication records between 2019 and 2023 were extracted from Scopus and the Web of Science, after which the bibliographic data set was administered using ScientoPy and VOSviewer. A term search was conducted with the keywords “training” OR “exercise” OR “practice” AND “volleyball”. Findings and Results: Results showed a total of 1.105 papers were published over the past five years, with 2022 recording the highest number of articles. The International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health was the most prolific source, with 45 papers, and Clemente, F. M., was the most published author. The United States was the leading contributor in this research domain with 137 papers. The most frequently highlighted training concepts, methods, and techniques in this topic included vertical jumps, biomechanics, body composition, muscle strength, power, endurance training, injury prevention, agility, balance, and countermovement jumps. Conclusion: The results of this study emphasise the importance of developing training-related knowledge in volleyball. For future research contributions and recommendations, some things that can be taken into consideration are increased interdisciplinary studies, more applied research, use of technology in training, focus on health and injury prevention, comparative studies between countries, and research related to youth training in volleyball. This research provided a strong foundation for further development in understanding and optimising the training of volleyball players in the future.

BackgroundGene therapy involves introducing and editing foreign genes in the body to treat and prevent genetic diseases. Adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector has become a widely used tool in gene therapy due to its high safety and transfection efficiency.MethodsThis study employs bibliometric analysis to explore the foundation and current state of AAV vector application in gene therapy research. A total of 6,069 publications from 1991 to 2022 were analyzed, retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) within the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) of Clarivate Analytics. Institutions, authors, journals, references, and keywords were analyzed and visualized by using VOSviewer and CiteSpace. The R language and Microsoft Excel 365 were used for statistical analyses.ResultsThe global literature on AAV vector and gene therapy exhibited consistent growth, with the United States leading in productivity, contributing 3,868 papers and obtaining the highest H-index. Noteworthy authors like Wilson JM, Samulski RJ, Hauswirth WW, and Mingozzi F were among the top 10 most productive and co-cited authors. The journal “Human Gene Therapy” published the most papers (n = 485) on AAV vector and gene therapy. Current research focuses on “gene editing,” “gene structure,” “CRISPR,” and “AAV gene therapy for specific hereditary diseases.”ConclusionThe application of AAV vector in gene therapy has shown continuous growth, fostering international cooperation among countries and institutions. The intersection of gene editing, gene structure, CRISPR, and AAV gene therapy for specific hereditary diseases and AAV vector represents a prominent and prioritized focus in contemporary gene therapy research. This study provides valuable insights into the trends and characteristics of AAV gene therapy research, facilitating further advancements in the field.
