Generation planning in the power system has been a complex and challenging multi-objective optimization problem. Numerous methodologies have been developed and applied to solve this problem. Still, researchers look forward to further improved methods that can further enhance the outcomes for this problem. This article suggests a hybrid FPA-PPSO scheme that combines the flower pollination algorithm (FPA) and phasor particle swarm optimization (PPSO) algorithm to solve this problem. The suggested FPA-PPSO scheme includes a high search efficiency, balanced local and global search capabilities, etc. which can help in more efficient planning of the generation in a microgrid. To analyze the supremacy of the suggested FPA-PPSO scheme over FPA and PPSO methods, a comparative study using twenty-three benchmark functions is presented. From the analysis conducted from the Friedman test, the suggested method gets a rank of 1.59 which is better compared to PPSO and FPA which get ranks of 2.61 and 3.04 for the twenty-three benchmark functions. Further, the suggested method is tested using four test cases to show its effectiveness in solving the scheduling problem of a microgrid considering renewable energy sources, energy storage systems, and demand response management. The obtained results conclude that the suggested methods show promising performance in planning the generating unit. The article contains a description of the design solutions proposed by the authors for a hybrid wind turbine bearing, in which the sliding part takes over the load to the turbine shaft after reaching the shaft rotation speed, ensuring hydrodynamic lubrication of the plain bearing and relieving the rolling bearing. This allows for low starting resistance of the power plant and ensures quiet operation during use. Two conceptual solutions of a hybrid bearing were presented, differing in the shape of the plain bearing journal. A mechanism for automatic switching of the load between a rolling and a plain bearing was developed. A solid simulation model of this mechanism was built in the Autodesk Inventor—Dynamic Simulation software Inventor Professional 2023 environment, and its operation was simulated. The results confirmed the usefulness of using this design in shaft-bearing systems of wind turbines with a vertical axis of rotation. Based on the simulation, the speed at which the thrust roller bearing will be released was determined. Technical parameters of a plain bearing with a spherical journal shape were calculated. The height of the lubrication gap and the shaft rotational speed at which the bearing load capacity index reaches a critical value were determined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With a single-switched DC-DC converter, a hybrid approach is proposed for a fast-charging (FC) dc to dc converter with the controller for an electric vehicle charging station (EVCS) that combines solar photovoltaic (PV), fuel cells (FC), and a battery energy storage system (BESS). The proposed hybrid technique integrates a radial-basis-function-neural-network (RBFNN) and a student-psychology-optimization-algorithm (SPOA); commonly known as the RBFNN-SPOA technique. The PV-FC hybrid electric vehicle systems, like controllers, electric vehicle, and the vehicle's power source, are displayed. The proposed converter architectures have less voltage waveform changes, a low voltage stress on semiconductor power sources, and a high-voltage ratio of conversion. The proposed method is to use FC successfully at battery charge states and varied radiation levels. The FC in the controller of SPOA may change the inputs and outputs depending on the battery state of charge (SoC) and PV irradiation. Similarly, the needed input-torque for the motor is forecasted by the recalling recurrent neural network controller using several manually produced torque signals. The performance of the proposed technique is evaluated in MATLAB and is compared to ant colony optimization (ACO), crow optimization algorithm (COA), and fuzzy logic controller (FLC) approaches. The presented work addresses the growing need for efficient and reliable DC microgrids integrating renewable energy sources. However, for the sake of practicality, implementing complex control strategies can increase system complexity. Thus, efficient methodologies are required to provide efficient energy management of microgrids while increasing the integration of renewable energy sources. The primary contribution of this work is to investigate the issues related to operating a DC microgrid with conventional control designed to power DC motors using readily available, non-advanced control strategies with the objective of achieving stable and reliable grid performance without resorting to complex control schemes. The proposed microgrid integrates a combination of uncontrollable renewable distributed generators (DGs) alongside controllable DGs and energy storage systems, including batteries and supercapacitors, connected via DC links. The Incremental Conductance (InCond) algorithm is employed for maximum power point tracking to maximize power output from the PV system. The energy management strategy prioritizes the solar system as the primary source, with the battery and supercapacitor acting as backup power sources to ensure overall system reliability and sustainability. The effectiveness of the microgrid under various operating conditions is evaluated through extensive simulations conducted using MATLAB. These simulations explore different power generation scenarios, including normal operation with varying load levels and operation under Standard Test Conditions (STC). Moreover, fault analysis of the DC microgrid is performed to examine system reliability. The system performance is evaluated using real-time simulation software (OPAL-RT) to validate the effectiveness of the approach under real-time conditions. This comprehensive approach demonstrates the efficacy of operating a DC microgrid with conventional controllers, ensuring grid stability and reliability across various operating conditions and fault scenarios while prioritizing the use of renewable energy sources. Among the most significant non-linear challenges for power network design and smooth functioning of current modern updated power system networks is the optimum power flow (OPF) problem. Importance of the electrical system modeling has recently come to light due to the incremental use of energy from renewable sources in power systems networks. The goal is to use wind, solar and tidal sources to recreate the issue of OPF. In this work, Weibull, Lognormal, and also Gumbel probability distribution functions were applied to simulate the uncertainties of wind, photovoltaic, and tidal energy system. Additionally, by adding test scenarios of unpredictable wind, solar and tidal energy systems involving minimization of the cost function, loss of active power, voltage deviation, and increase stability of voltage. In accordance with the chosen thermal producing units, the solutions were evaluated using different locations using IEEE 30-bus systems of testing that incorporate renewable energy sources. The proposed power system planning problem was solved by multi-objective function where unified power flow controller are utilized as flexible AC transmission systems controllers via recently introduced optimization algorithms and the simulation outcomes of the aforementioned technique have been compared with Multi Objective Adaptive Guided Differential Evolution algorithms. The adaptive improved flower pollination algorithm (AIFPA) is a strong and reliable algorithm that is presented in this work. The AIFPA can efficiently deal with many kinds of high-complexity objective regions in multi-objective optimization situations. Utilizing an IEEE 30-bus test system, the suggested approaches' performance was examined and evaluated for a range of objective functions. As the share of renewable energy sources in the power system keeps growing, a new issue with frequency stability – diminishing and changing inertia – has emerged. Estimating power system inertia has received a lot of attention lately in order to market design of synthetic inertia as an additional service and implement timely corrective steps for robust frequency control. Curve fitting technique has emerged as one of the promising techniques for estimation of power system inertia, however, many challenging aspects need to be addressed for its practical applications. This study aims to systematically assess the effectiveness of the curve fitting method under a range of operational parameters and conditions, such as the curve fitting order, the length of data to be used for curve fitting after an event begins, and the length of the moving average filter applied to the frequency data to remove oscillatory and noise from the frequency transient. The simulation studies have been performed on DIgSILENT and MATLAB platforms. The results show that very high and very low order curve fitting results are high errors and the 5th order model with mean error in estimated value of inertia less than 1% has outperformed others. The analysis on various window width of moving average filter found that increasing the window width results in more error. For IEEE-9 bus system, a filter up to 850 ms width has a mean percentage error below 1%. The analysis also revealed that the duration of the data used for curve fitting is not significant. For variation of the duration of the data used for the curve fitting from 50 ms to 500 ms, the estimated inertia values are found to be in a close range of 2.4881 s to 2.5262 s, for the single machine system with H = 2.5 s. With the global consensus to achieve carbon neutral goals, power systems are experiencing a rapid increase in renewable energy sources and energy storage systems (ESS). Especially, recent development of hub substations (HS/S) equipped with ESS, applicable for resolving site constraints if implemented as mobile transformers, is expanding the development of ESS-equipped facilities. However, these units require centralized control strategies considering variability within integrated networks. While studies on electric vehicle charging considering the variability of renewable energy or load are widely studied, ESS management scheme for individual substations requires further optimization, especially considering the state of distributed sources at lower levels and transmission system operators. Thus, in this study, an optimal control approach for ESS located at the connection point of transmission and distribution systems, including further consideration of the loss in distribution lines and the constraints of renewable energy sources is presented. This study attempts to derive proactive control strategies for ESS in HS/S to operate with various distribution networks. By establishing control priorities for each source through optimal operation strategy, a suitable capacity of ESS and its economic benefits for distribution network management can be examined. Validation of the current analysis results is performed by utilizing MATPOWER. This article presents a novel approach to enhance the efficiency, control, and power management capabilities of traditional Zeta Converters in renewable energy applications. The proposed particle swarm optimization (PSO)-modified three-port zeta converter (MTPZC) features a multiport structure with dedicated input ports for photovoltaic (PV) and battery sources, along with an output port. The integration of PSO optimization aims to optimize maximum power point tracking to enhance energy extraction. Extensive simulations and experimental validations showcase the MTPZC's superior performance in power extraction from both PV and Battery sources. This innovative design positions the converter as a promising solution for multiport energy conversion systems in renewable energy applications. The article contributes to the advancement of power electronics by offering improved reliability and efficiency. Simulation results, validated in MATLAB and compared with existing methods, demonstrate an impressive efficiency of 97.8%. In the operation and control of power systems, load frequency control (LFC) plays a critical role in ensuring the stability and reliability of interconnected power systems. Modern power systems with significant penetration of highly variable and intermittent renewable sources present new challenges that make traditional control strategies ineffective. To address these new challenges, this paper proposes a novel LFC strategy that employs a cascaded fractional-order proportional integral-fractional-order proportional integral derivative with a derivative filter (FOPI-FOPIDN) as a controller. The parameters of the FOPI-FOPIDN are optimised using a variant of the particle swarm optimization (PSO) in the literature called ADIWACO. The effectiveness and scalability of the proposed strategy are validated by extensive simulations conducted on two- and three-area test systems and performance comparisons with recent LFC control strategies in the literature. The performance metrics used for the evaluation are ITAE values, deviations in the power flows in the tie-lines, and deviations in the frequencies of the control areas with the power systems subjected to diverse load and RES generation disturbances in several experimental scenarios. Governor dead band, communication time delay, and generation rate constraints are considered in one of the scenarios for more realistic evaluation. Again, the controller's robustness to uncertain model parameters is validated by varying the parameters of the three-area test system by ± 50%. This review provides a comprehensive exploration of distributed generation (DG) in the context of radial distribution systems, encompassing various DG technologies, current advancements, and their integration challenges. It evaluates the impacts of DG on distribution networks, highlighting diverse applications, drivers, and benefits. A significant focus is on the optimal integration of DG, assessing various optimization techniques, algorithms, and objective functions used to address this challenge. Through a detailed analysis of existing literature, this study identifies that no single optimization method stands out as universally superior. Instead, the research concludes that hybrid optimization techniques, particularly those combining heuristic methods such as genetic algorithms with other approaches, offer the most effective and reliable solutions for the complex task of DG integration. These hybrid methods leverage the strengths and mitigate the weaknesses of individual techniques, providing more robust and dependable outcomes. Day-ahead electricity price forecasting (DAEPF) holds critical significance for stakeholders in energy markets, particularly in areas with large amounts of renewable energy sources (RES) integration. In Japan, the proliferation of RES has led to instances wherein day-ahead electricity prices drop to nearly zero JPY/kWh during peak RES production periods, substantially affecting transactions between electricity retailers and consumers. This paper introduces an innovative DAEPF framework employing a Convolutional Neural Network–Long Short-Term Memory (CNN–LSTM) model designed to predict day-ahead electricity prices in the Kyushu area of Japan. To mitigate the inherent uncertainties associated with neural networks, a novel ensemble learning approach is implemented to bolster the DAEPF model's robustness and prediction accuracy. The CNN–LSTM model is verified to outperform a standalone LSTM model in both prediction accuracy and computation time. Additionally, applying a natural logarithm transformation to the target day-ahead electricity price as a pre-processing technique has proven necessary for higher prediction accuracy. A novel "policy-versus-policy" strategy is proposed to address the prediction problem of the zero prices, halving the computation time of the traditional two-stage method. The efficacy of incorporating a suite of multimodal features: areal day-ahead electricity price, day-ahead system electricity price, areal actual power generation, areal meteorological forecasts, calendar forecasts, alongside the rolling features of areal day-ahead electricity price, as explanatory variables to significantly enhance DAEPF accuracy has been validated. With the full integration of the proposed features, the CNN–LSTM ensemble model achieves its highest accuracy, reaching performance metrics of R 2 , MAE, and RMSE of 0.787, 1.936 JPY/kWh, and 2.630 JPY/kWh, respectively, during the test range from 1 March 2023 to 31 March 2023, underscoring the advantages of a comprehensive, multi-dimensional approach to DAEPF. The strategic objective of world climate policy is the decarbonization of industries, aiming to achieve "net-zero" emissions by 2050, as outlined in the European Green Deal and the Paris Agreement. This transition entails increasing the utilization of renewable energy sources (RES) in industrial energy consumption, thereby transforming economies from reliance on fossil fuels to sustainable alternatives. However, this shift poses a significant challenge for many EU countries, with varying degrees of success in adaptation. This paper investigates the process of decarbonizing industries by analyzing trends in the adoption of RES in EU countries and evaluating their progress toward climate targets. Utilizing time series analysis of production, total energy usage, and the proportion of renewables in industrial energy consumption, the study compares two groups of countries: longstanding EU members and newer additions. The aim is to forecast the trajectory of RES integration in industry and assess the feasibility of meeting the targets outlined in the European Green Deal. The findings reveal a considerable gap between the set targets and projected outcomes, with only a few countries expected to meet the EU's 2030 goals. This is highlighted by disparities in RES shares across member states, ranging from 0.0% to 53.8% in 2022. Despite notable increases in the absolute use of renewable energy, particularly in central and eastern European nations, substantial challenges persist in aligning industrial sectors with EU decarbonization objectives. The growing demand for energy, driven by rapid economic development, necessitates higher electricity consumption. However, conventional energy systems relying on fossil fuels present environmental challenges, prompting a shift towards renewable energy sources. In Kosovo, coal-fired power plants dominate electricity production, highlighting the need for cleaner alternatives. Worldwide efforts are underway to increase the efficiency of photovoltaic systems using sustainable materials, essential for ecological and human health. Solar and wind energy are emerging as sustainable alternatives to traditional fossil fuels. However, global concerns about energy security and environmental sustainability are driving countries to prioritize renewable energy development. In Kosovo, the integration of renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar energy, is progressing rapidly. However, challenges such as voltage stability and power losses need to be addressed. Distributed generation offers a solution by increasing energy reliability and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Further research is needed to assess the technical, economic, and environmental implications of integrating renewable resources into Kosovo's energy system, focusing on power quality, system reliability, and voltage stability. The research focused on the eastern region of the country, operating at the 110 kV substation level. Challenges in energy quality arise due to the lack of 400 kV supply and the continuous increase in energy consumption, especially in the Gjilan area. This paper investigated integrating renewable energy, especially wind and solar sources, into the medium- and long-term plans at the Gjilan 5 substation to enhance energy quality in the area. Successful integration requires detailed analysis of energy flows, considering the impact of photovoltaics (PVs) on distribution system operation and stability. To simulate and analyze the effects of renewables on the transmission system, voltage profile, and power losses, a case study was conducted using ETAP software. The characterization of electric vehicles as environmentally friendly means of transportation hinges, on the one hand, upon the manner in which the energy for their charging is generated and, on the other hand, on the recyclability of the materials composing them, with primary emphasis on the recycling of batteries. Given that we are still in the early stages of electrification in road transportation, it can be argued that at least a decade is required for the development of a sustainable battery recycling industry. Conversely, the progressively increasing number of electric vehicles makes the necessity of charging them with clean, green energy imperative. In this context, this study examines the energy and economic aspects of replacing 50% of the public passenger vehicle fleet, which currently relies on internal combustion engines, with electric vehicles on the island of Zakynthos, Greece. Specifically, it calculates the energy needs of these vehicles and proposes methods for environmentally friendly electricity generation to meet the electrical demand. To assess the benefits for the owners of the charging stations and the electric vehicles, the Life-Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) method is employed for various scenarios regarding (a) the pricing of the supplied electrical energy for electric vehicle charging and (b) the evolution of fossil fuel prices. The decrease in overall inertia in power systems due to the shift from synchronous generator production to renewable energy sources (RESs) presents a significant challenge. This transition affects the system's stable frequency response, making it highly sensitive to imbalances between production and consumption, particularly during large disturbances. To address this issue, this paper introduces a novel approach using Multivariate Empirical Mode Decomposition (MEMD) for the accurate estimation of power system inertia. This approach involves applying MEMD, a complex signal processing technique, to power system frequency signals. The study utilizes PMU (Phasor Measurement Unit) data and simulated disturbances in the IEEE 39 bus test system to conduct this analysis. MEMD offers substantial advantages in analyzing multivariate data and frequency signals during disturbances, providing accurate estimations of system inertia. This approach enhances the understanding of power system dynamics in the context of renewable energy integration. However, the complexity of this methodology and the requirement for precise data collection are challenges that need to be addressed. The results from this approach show high accuracy in estimating the rate of change of frequency (RoCoF) and system inertia, with minimal deviation from actual values. The findings highlight the significant impact of renewable energy integration on system inertia and emphasize the necessity of accurate inertia estimation in modern power systems. The reasons (use of fossil fuels as a heat carrier) and consequences (prolonged energy and economic crises) of global warming are analyzed. It is shown that developing countries, using more advanced technologies, particularly in electricity production, are gaining global markets for raw materials and fuel. The vector of technological growth is shifting to Asian and South American countries. The global structure of electricity production by fuel types in countries with the highest electricity consumption is examined. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA) data, in 2019, the majority of electricity production came from fossil sources, a small part from nuclear energy (10.3%), and 26.7% from renewable energy sources (RES). It is demonstrated that half of the world's electricity production is concentrated in three countries: China (30%), the United States (15.5%), and India (6%). Significant contributions are made by EU countries, accounting for 11.2% of global production (including 37.1% from RES). Global renewable energy capacity was 16.7% in 2010, 26.3% in 2019, and 28.7% in 2021. This growth is attributed to the UN's climate policy, aiming at decarbonizing the global economy, and substantial investments in the energy sector. Challenges hindering further growth of renewable energy share in China and other countries are discussed, including the insufficient number of energy storage systems (partly due to high entry costs ranging from 200 to 600 dollars per kWh) and the need for long-distance energy transmission. China, a global leader in renewable energy usage, generates almost 50% of the world's renewable energy capacity. Solar energy, including space projects, is considered the most promising among RES. However, a complete transition to RES is currently impossible due to various reasons. The key problem lies in ensuring an uninterrupted energy supply to consumers. There is a rapid increase in power demand which has led to an increase in the need for smaller grids all over the world. The microgrid is such a small power supply system that consists of loads, distributed energy resources, and energy storage systems. With the development of the internet, the power sector has started the development of the newest type of grids, involving a smart technology called smart grids. Smart grids have got smart integration and advanced storage, along with dynamic optimization of grid operation and resources, digital information and control, distributed resources, demand-side resources, energy efficiency resources, and smart metering systems. The developments in intelligent controllers reflect in power flow management also. This paper gives an idea of how to achieve power flow management through a tariff-based Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC). The control algorithm used here is the k factor-based Icosϕ algorithm, which decides the amount of power shared by microgrids and the grid based on the load demand. The power forecasting of the microgrid with a solar source is performed using ANN. The regression plot and the error histogram obtained show the accuracy of the ANN controller. The simulation of power flow management of the smart microgrid system is tested and analyzed and the proposed system is compared with other existing research. The hardware implementation of the FLC controller with the Arduino interface which is analogous to real-time measurement is explained in detail to compare the simulation results obtained. This research article presents a comprehensive investigation into the design, optimization, and performance analysis of a hybrid stand-alone microgrid for an industrial facility in Iraq at coordinates 36.51 and 43.99. The system consists of photovoltaic (PV) modules, inverters, a battery energy storage system (BESS), a generator, and AC loads. Leveraging the capabilities of PVsyst version 7.3.1, HOMER Pro version 3.14.2 and SAM version 2022.11.21 software tools, this study assesses the feasibility and functionality of the hybrid stand-alone microgrid. In this study, PVsyst software is used for detailed designing and analysis of a PV plant, and the PVsyst design file is then used in HOMER Pro software to optimize and design the proposed hybrid stand-alone microgrid, and for detailed performance analysis SAM software is employed. This paper also investigates the impact of ground clearance and ground albedo on the annual generation of bifacial PV modules at various tilt angles. Key findings include a promising normalized production rate of 4.53 kWh/kWp/day with a performance ratio of 0.815 and annual energy production estimates of 84.31 MWh (P50), 79.57 MWh (P90), and 78.24 MWh (P95) for monofacial PV modules, highlighting the system's potential for renewable energy generation. Notably, this research demonstrates the hybrid stand-alone microgrid's capacity to significantly reduce CO2 emissions, saving approximately 1811.6 tons over a 30-year period, thus contributing to sustainability and environmental conservation goals. Additionally, this study reveals operational challenges during the winter months, necessitating generator support to meet load demands. The successful installation and experimental validation of the hybrid stand-alone microgrid underscore its practical viability and its role in advancing clean energy solutions. The role of hydrogen as a clean energy source is a promising but also a contentious issue. The global energy production is currently characterized by an unprecedented shift to renewable energy sources (RES) and their technologies. However, the local and environmental benefits of such RES-based technologies show a wide variety of technological maturity, with a common mismatch to local RES stocks and actual utilization levels of RES exploitation. In this literature review, the collected documents taken from the Scopus database using relevant keywords have been organized in homogeneous clusters, and are accompanied by the registration of the relevant studies in the form of one figure and one table. In the second part of this review, selected representations of typical hydrogen energy system (HES) installations in realistic in-field applications have been developed. Finally, the main concerns, challenges and future prospects of HES against a multi-parametric level of contributing determinants have been critically approached and creatively discussed. Many countries, including Indonesia, have abundant renewable energy sources (RES), but the share of RES in the current national energy supply is still insignificant. The study aimed to investigate and provide the most feasible combinations of RES that meet domestic electricity demand. For Java and Bali, Indonesia, initially, 35 scenarios, given 4 primary RES (solar, wind, hydropower, geothermal) and municipal solid waste, were assessed based on economic and environmental indicators. This explorative data-driven study found that the existing capacity could only meet 51% of the electricity demand. However, the proposed energy mixes could cover 100% of the electricity demand in 2020 with a required capacity of 8.32–19.10 GW, varying on each scenario. The feasible energy mixes can reduce CO2 emissions by 90–94% compared to a fossil energy mix with gas-fired power plants. The installation, and operation and maintenance costs per life cycle can range from 29–50 and 4–16 billion dollars. The wind-based energy mix, with installed capacities of geothermal (1.16 GW), hydropower (2.87 GW), solar (0.003 GW) and municipal solid waste (0.18 GW) in 2020, showed the highest return on investment (139% ROI) and smallest CO2 emission with highest CO2 reduction (94%). This study provides a scientific method of selecting, projecting, and evaluating viable RES combinations for generating electricity without using fossil fuels. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: These implementations not only generate excessive voltage levels to enhance the quality of power but also include a detailed investigating of the various modulation methods and control schemes for multilevel inverter (MLI) topologies. Reduced harmonic modulation technology is used to produce 11-level output voltage with the production of renewable energy applications. The simulation is done in the MATLAB/Simulink for 11-level symmetric MLI and is correlated with the conventional inverter design. Design/methodology/approach: This paper is focused on investigating the different types of asymmetric, symmetric and hybrid topologies and control methods used for the modular multilevel inverter (MMI) operation. Classical MLI configurations are affected by performance issues such as poor power quality, uneconomic structure and low efficiency. Findings: The variations in both carrier and reference signals and their performance are analyzed for the proposed inverter topologies. The simulation result compares unipolar and bipolar pulse-width modulation (PWM) techniques with total harmonic distortion (THD) results. The solar-fed 11-level MMI is controlled using various modulation strategies, which are connected to marine emergency lighting loads. This article is closely related to the oldest article titled Contribution to Active Thermal Protection Research—Part 1 Analysis of Energy Functions by Parametric Study. It is a continuation of research that focuses on verifying the energy potential and functions of so-called active thermal protection (ATP). As mentioned in the first part, the amount of thermal energy consumed for heating buildings is one of the main parameters that determine their future design, especially the technical equipment. The issue of reducing the consumption of this energy is implemented in various ways, such as passive thermal protection, i.e., by increasing the thermal insulation parameters of the individual materials of the building envelope or by optimizing the operation of the technical equipment of the buildings. On the other hand, there are also methods of active thermal protection that aim to reduce heat leakage through nontransparent parts of the building envelope. This methodology is based on the validation of the results of a parametric study of the dynamic thermal resistance (DTR) and the heat fluxes to the interior and exterior from the ATP for the investigated envelope of the experimental house EB2020 made of aerated concrete blocks, presented in the article "Contribution to the research on active thermal protection—Part 1, Analysis of energy functions by the parametric study", by long-term experimental measurements. The novelty of the research lies in the involvement of variant-peak heat/cooling sources in combination with RES and in creating a new, original way of operating energy systems with the possibility of changing and combining the operating modes of the ATP. We have verified the operation of the experimental house in the energy functions of thermal barrier, heating/cooling with RES, and without RES and ATP. The energy saving when using RES and ATP is approximately 37%. Based on the synthesis and induction of analogous forms of the results of previous research into recommendations for the development of building envelopes with energy-active elements, we present further possible outcomes in the field of ATP, as well as already realized and upcoming prototypes of thermal insulation panels. Market power is a dominant feature of many modern electricity markets with an oligopolistic structure, resulting in increased consumer cost. This work investigates how consumers, through demand response (DR), can mitigate against market power. Within DR, our analysis particularly focusses on the impacts of load shifting and self-generation. A stochastic mixed complementarity problem is presented to model an electricity market characterised by an oligopoly with a competitive fringe. It incorporates both energy and capacity markets, multiple generating firms and different consumer types. The model is applied to a case study based on data for the Irish power system. The results demonstrate how DR can help consumers mitigate against the negative effects of market power and that load shifting and self-generation are competing technologies, whose effectiveness against market power is similar for most consumers. Road transportation accounts for about 20% of the total GHG emissions in the EU. Nowadays, the substitution of conventional fossil fuel-based ICEs with electric engines, or their hybridization, operating along with Energy Storage Systems, seems to be the most appropriate measure to achieve reductions in both fuel consumption and GHGs. However, EVs encounter crucial challenges, such as long charging time and limited driving range. Hence, the transition to the mass adoption of EVs requires considerable effort and time. However, significant steps have been taken in the hybridization of road vehicles, with the aid of renewables and energy recovery/saving systems. In this context, this paper presents a comprehensive literature review of modern green technologies for GHG reduction that are applicable to road transportation, such as on-vehicle energy harvesting and recovery (e.g., thermal, kinetic, etc.) systems and the incorporation of RES into EV charging stations. The impact of road vehicles on the environment is discussed in detail, along with the EU roadmap towards the decarbonization of transportation. Next, methods and techniques for fuel consumption and GHG reduction are systematically presented and categorized into on-vehicle and off-vehicle ones. On a global scale, the agriculture sector is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, and this holds true for the European Union as well. While a shift to renewable energy sources could reduce reliance on fossil fuels and enable electrified agriculture, there are significant challenges to overcome. These include the high initial costs and inconsistent energy output of renewable sources, as well as issues with acceptance and cost related to electric tractor technology and load-balancing batteries. To explore potential solutions and future prospects for electrifying agriculture, a literature review is conducted to identify emerging technologies and research trends in areas such as agrovoltaics, semi-transparent photovoltaic panels, energy storage systems and electric tractors. The review conducted will provide a valuable insight into future research and the implementation of emerging technologies, thus addressing the challenges faced by the agriculture sector during its transition to electrification based on renewable energy sources. Biodegradable waste from households, companies, and gastronomy is not utilized in large Polish agglomerations for the production of biogas. Determining the biogas production potential in a selected agglomeration will enable the implementation of circular economy goals and sustainable development objectives. Once appropriate odor neutrality standards are met, biogas plants could be constructed around large cities, supplying both energy and heating systems to nearby housing estates or production facilities. This article aims to assess the potential of biodegradable municipal waste collected in a large city for the production of energy in specialized municipal biogas plants. The following analytical study focuses on Krakow and its surrounding municipalities. Because of its geographical location, Krakow is exposed to smog, and every action limiting the usage of carbon-based materials for heating will have a positive impact on the air quality. A biogas plant powered by municipal waste would present a viable opportunity to limit urban smog. It is also crucial that a biogas plant can store energy as it is equipped with methane tanks. Over the past few decades, the electric power industry evolved in response to growing concerns about climate change and the rising price of fossil fuels. The usage of renewable energy sources (RES) rose as a remedy for these problems. The increased penetration of RES in the existing generation system increased the need for an intelligent energy management system (EMS) so that the system can operate in any possible circumstances. Many sectors of society, including the education sector, are working to realize the importance of this sustainable energy system. This paper reviews the process of selecting an efficient control technique for continuous power flow from different RES to meet the load demand requirement using an enhanced model predictive control (MPC)-based EMS framework. This EMS is a software platform to provide fundamental support services and applications to deliver the functionality needed for the effective operation of electrical generation and transmission facilities to ensure adequate security of energy supply at minimum cost. One of the most important areas in today's world is meeting the energy needs of various resources provided by nature. The advantages of renewable energy sources for many application sectors have attracted a lot of attention. The majority of grid-based enterprises use solar photovoltaic (PV) systems to collect sunlight as a reliable energy source. Due to solar PV's simple accessibility and efficient panel design, it is widely used in a variety of application scenarios. By employing the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) technique, the PV modules can typically operate at their best rate and draw the most power possible from the solar system. Some hybrid control mechanisms are utilized in solar PV systems in traditional works, which has limitations on the problems of increased time consumption, decreased efficiency, and increased THD. Thus, a new Mine Blast Optimization Algorithm (MBOA) based MPPT controlling model is developed to maximize the electrical energy produced by the PV panels under a different climatic situations. Also, an interleaved Luo DC-DC converter is used to significantly improve the output voltage of a PV system with a lower switching frequency. A sophisticated converter and regulating models are being created to effectively meet the energy demand of grid systems. The voltage source inverter is used to lower the level of harmonics and ensure the grid systems' power quality. Various performance indicators are applied to assess the simulation and comparative results of the proposed MBOA-MPPT controlling technique integrated with an interleaved Luo converter. The fact that they are unpredictable and unreliable, renewable energy sources (RES) are increasingly crucial to the electrical power grid's ability to maintain energy continuity. The challenge of energy sustainability can only be solved by energy storage technology. Regarding a Hybrid Energy Storage System (HESS) powered by a 4-wire, 3-phase grid connected solar Photovoltaic (PV) power system, a novel Smart Energy Control Technique (SECT) with a Whale optimization algorithm is presented in this work. The sustainability of energy via solar PV power generating systems is achieved by using HESS, which consists of batteries and ultra-capacitor storage devices for energy. The suggested SECT has been used for the analysis and experimental testing of several HESS operating scenarios. During experimental testing, the load status of a single sunny day and the PV power outline were constructed and dynamically assessed by utilizing SECT; some test findings in eight distinct operating modes are included in this paper. The system uses 1320W of electricity to charge the battery group, and in one of its modes of operation, the leftover energy is sent to the grid using 5% present harmonics. And because of the system's high power density, quick reaction, and great efficiency, the HESS is a highly efficient energy storage method. Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems have gained significant attention due to their easy implementation and availability, where proper energy management should be highly concentrated for a successful PV power utilization. In the traditional works, various controlling techniques have been developed for reactive power compensation. But, it lacks with the issues of reduced system performance, increased loss, and high harmonics. Hence, this paper aims to develop a new controlling methodology, named the Synthesis Segmental Multilevel Converter (SSMC) for reactive power compensation in a three-phase grid system. Initially, it extracts the maximum amount of power from the solar PV systems by using an Enhanced Perturb and Observe (EPO) method. Then, the panel separation is performed and the three-phase power input is given to the SSMC converter, where the synchronization and switching pulse generation processes are performed. During synchronization, integrated techniques such as Proportional Integral (PI), Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC), and Improved Artificial Neural Network (IANN) are utilized to maintain the voltage, magnitude and phase angle in the same level. Consequently, the Inductance Capacitance (LC) filtering technique is applied to reduce the harmonics distortion in the signal. After that, the Park transformation is used to perform the dq0 to abc transformation, which is implemented for reducing the high volume of error. Finally, the error-free signal is fed to the three-phase grid system with reduced harmonics. During experimentation, both the simulation and analytical results have been taken for analyzing the performance of the proposed technique. Adopting hybrid power systems to provide access to clean, reliable, and inexpensive energy is necessary for countries like India to accomplish their goals of sustainable development. This work proposes an optimization approach for sizing a grid‐connected hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) that includes photovoltaic, biomass, biogas, and a battery. In this research, a recently developed Aquila optimization algorithm is utilized to evaluate the optimal size of HRES for a cluster of villages near Sarai Jairam, Agra district, Uttar Pradesh, India using the MATLAB software package. The goal of this optimization approach is to reduce the net present cost for HRES while satisfying the operational constraints, including the reliability of the power supply and maximum utilization of the photovoltaic, biomass, and biogas complementary properties. Initially, three HRES configurations in the off‐grid mode were optimized using the suggested Aquila optimization technique. To confirm the findings, the optimization results for the same models of off‐grid HRES were obtained using the harmony search (HS) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithms. The same algorithms were also used to optimize the grid‐connected SPV/biomass/biogas with the battery model of HRES. Finally, the outcomes from the off‐grid models presented above were compared to the grid‐linked model. The grid‐connected configuration which is obtained by the Aquila optimization approach provides an optimal solution with the least net present cos t (NPC) and minimum cost of energy (COE) when compared with HS and PSO. The optimal grid‐connected HRES includes 235 kW of PV, a 10 kW biogas generator, a 64 kW biomass generator, and a 50.40 kWh battery bank. Nowadays, the Ukrainian electricity industry is experiencing difficult conditions, as it is operating in a mode of depletion of its production potential. At the same time, the transition to sustainable and renewable energy is the necessary basis for the country's welfare and for ensuring its energy security. Therefore, today we cannot do without the additional attraction of sources of funding from investors. The purpose of the survey is to study the pattern and effectiveness of investments and identify links and dependencies between key technical and economic parameters and investments in renewable energy sources. To achieve this goal, the authors divided the study into four successive stages, which made it possible to study the subject of the study comprehensively. As a result of the study, results have been obtained that complement the existing theoretical, methodological, and practical developments. Mathematical calculations (using the example of the largest wind power plants in the south-eastern region) revealed transparent relationships and dependencies between the critical technical and economic parameters of the WPP of South-Eastern Ukraine and investments in the wind energy sector. Among them: the installation of 1 MW of additional WPP generating capacity requires an average of EUR 1.51 million of investment resources, and the production of one additional kWh of electricity requires an investment EUR 0.42 euros; therefore, providing an additional thousand households with WPP electricity is possible with an investment of EUR 1.345 million. Microgrids with renewable energy sources have the foremost challenge of sustaining its frequency and voltage profile within limits. The scheme becomes more complex when they are connected through a network. The renewable energy sources are sporadic in nature. Therefore, they need to be supported by diesel/biogas-based system due to load variation or input power to a renewable energy-based system; the power requirement backing is met through diesel/biogas generators. In this paper, two independent clusters are considered as microgrids and they are interconnected through a Low Voltage AC line. The hybrid system modelled consists of wind, solar, and biogas based generating plant. One of the microgrids is connected to the main grid as well as draws power from the other microgrid. Since interconnection is through the AC line, therefore, to maintain synchronism the controller should act fast and are tuned accordingly. Fractional order proportional–integral controllers have been used due to its faster response, additional tuning parameter, and less effect on performance due to external disturbances. Controllers are tuned such that whenever there is a disturbance due to an increase/decrease in system load or input power to the renewables the biogas-based generator of individual microgrid increases/decreases its generation to support the system requirement. Because of electricity markets, environmental concerns, transmission constraints, and variable renewable energy sources (VRES), coordinated operation of demand response (DR) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) has become critical. In turn, the optimal coordinated operation of DR and BESS by an entity can affect overall electricity market outcomes and transmission network conditions. The coordinated operation is desirable for the profit-seeking entity, but it may adversely affect the cost and revenues of other market participants or cause system congestion. Though few coordinated operation models already exist, our aim in this research is to provide a novel multi-objective optimization-based methodology for the coordinated operation of DR and BESS to boost market profit. Moreover, another goal is to simultaneously study the combined effects of such coordinated models on transmission networks and electricity markets for the first time. This paper has proposed a new method for coordinated DR and BESS utilization by a load-serving entity (LSE) to increase its profit. Moreover, it has employed agent-based modeling of the electricity systems (AMES) for testing our coordinated DR and BESS method under day-ahead market and transmission system conditions. Simulation results of case studies indicate that the operating costs of all LSEs decreased, and there was as much as 98,260 $/day in cost savings for BESS deploying LSE1. Although revenues of cheaper generation companies (GenCos) decreased, those of expensive GenCos increased or showed mixed trends. For example, GenCo 3 exhibits an 8765 $/day decrease in revenue for 25% BESS capacity, whereas a 6328 $/day increase in revenue for 37.5% BESS capacity. The variance of LMPs, widely used as a risk index, greatly decreased for the LSE utilizing the coordinated methodology, somewhat decreased for other LSEs but increased for cheaper GenCos with no LSE at the local node. Since BESS deployment decisions of an LSE can have system-wide or market-wide consequences, simulation analysis before deployment can help reduce market distortions or system congestions. This research proposes an improved finite control set direct power model predictive control method (FCS-DPMPC) for grid-tie distributed generation (DG). FCS-DPMPC predicts the system outcomes using the system model. During the next sampling time, a voltage vector is defined using the cost function to minimize the power ripple, consequently allowing flexibility for power regulation. Furthermore, the impact of implementing a one-step delay is studied and compensated through a model forecast pattern. In addition, a new two-step horizon technique has been developed to minimize switching frequency and computation burden. Simulation results for single DG and parallel operated DGs in a grid-tie manner confirm the effectiveness of the suggested control strategy, which signifies that this is an appropriate approach for distributed generation in microgrids. Purpose: The aim of this article is to identify initiatives related to social innovation in the area of energy. The rationale for undertaking research on this topic stemmed from the scarcity of scientific studies on social innovation in the energy sector. Design/methodology/approach: The research used qualitative research methods to verify information from various sources. For this purpose, a case study method was used, which is particularly important when researching complex phenomena. Findings: The results indicate that social innovations fit into the broadly understood concept of sustainable development, stimulating initiatives in the area of renewable energy sources, as well as contributing to energy savings, increased use of renewable energy systems, and improving the quality of life of residents. Originality/value: The issue addressed in this paper concerns social innovations related to the energy sector, which play an increasingly important role in the context of energy savings and increased use of renewable energy systems (RES). Social innovations are derived from the quality of social dialogue of public, non-profit or private organizations contributing to the solution of social problems. In this paper, we describe our experience with the design, project, and implementation of a prototype of an energy-efficient prefabricated house IDA I. using renewable energy sources (RES). This prototype is the result of our research in the field of energy (solar) roofs, ground heat storages, and active thermal protection. The client of the applied research, the owner of the prefabricated plant, has purchased the license for the patented ISOMAX system. Experience from the implementation of buildings according to this system shows the high potential using of RES but also the shortcomings caused by the variable, unstable, hardly predictable solar and geothermic energy stored in ground heat storages. The production of panels ISOMAX in the lost form from expanded polystyrene was too complicated, time-consuming, and often showed problems from a static point of view. Our research aimed to design an innovative, original, and reliable mode of operation for the IDA I. prefabricated house prototype under development, which in synergy with the building management system, will optimize the mode of operation of all heat/cooling sources and energy systems. Another task was to innovate the design of the envelope panel with active thermal protection, eliminate the shortcomings of the technical design of the ISOMAX panel, and adapt as many components as possible to prefabrication. The prototype of the energy-efficient prefabricated house IDA I. using RES represents an innovative energy-secure and self-sufficient construction option compared to buildings with fossil fuelbased heating/cooling sources. The climate change is probably the greatest challenge humanity is facing today. In order to protect future generations from the catastrophic effects of the process, actions to achieve climate neutrality are being taken worldwide. These actions include development of renewable energy sources. Renewable energy depends on weather conditions, which results in a mismatch between supply and demand for energy. Use of energy storage is the technical solution to minimize this issue. The paper presents topics related to the potential storing of surplus electricity produced from renewable energy sources (RES) in the form of compressed air. The article also shows worldwide solutions for energy storage using compressed air. As part of the work, three variants of a warehouse consisting of standardly available pneumatic units were considered. It can be observed that greater efficiency is achieved by using large flow compressors and the operation of the pneumatic motor at a higher supply pressure. In South Korea, Renewable Energy Sources (RES) have been increasing with the application of energy policies, such as Feed in Tariff (FIT) and the Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS). However, a rapid increase in RES supply leads to an uncertain power supply due to the intermittent output of RES. A representative example is the curtailment of Wind Turbines (WT), which frequently occurs in Jeju Island, South Korea. The proportion of RES power on Jeju Island is 67%, and there are cases where WT is curtailed among the operable sections to maintain the balance of power supply and demand. This paper applies Power-to-Gas (P2G) technology to hydrogenate, store, and utilize unused power to solve this problem. In this paper, Aewol-eup in Jeju Island is selected as a target site for case study. An Integrated Energy System (IES) for various energy operations is designed to control RES output. This paper proposes the optimal facility configuration and finally drives the optimal design and operation solution of IES by analyzing the objective functions and focusing on the Independent Power Producer (IPP) perspective. In traditional energy production at large-scale, conventional methods are being used, including fossil fuels. This in turn leads to greenhouse gas emissions (e.g., carbon dioxide or CO2) that cause environmental concerns, but also those traditional methods rely on traditional distribution systems, which are burdened with high transmission losses. This paper focuses on a new concept in the energy sector that undergoes transformation from a traditional centralized system to a decentralized one. In reaching sustainability goals, such as net-zero emissions, the energy sector is incorporating renewable energy sources into the energy system. This requires transformation that combines big conventional energy producers with multiple small- and large-scale energy producers (rooftop photovoltaic panels, wind farms and solar plants) in one system. This enormous transformation is a difficult task, but with recent advancements in information and communication technologies, digitalization, the Industry 4.0 paradigm and Internet of Things technology, it is feasible to achieve. The rapid growths of power demand and renewable resources have led to numerous challenges. Constructing more resilient microgrids (MGs) provides an opportunity to avoid dependency on the main grid. This article proposes an innovative Energy Management Strategy (EMS) for microgrids that uses non-conventional energy sources such as solar power, wind power, and the storage of electric vehicles (EVs). Numerous studies have been published on MG EMSs using storage; however, in real-time scenarios, predominant factors limit their straightforward implementation. In this article, an attempt is made to address key aspects of EV storage exploitation to support MGEMSs. Minimizing the total MG energy cost is the key objective, considering EV battery longevity and technical limitations. The proposed EMS was implemented in three layers: Optimal Storage Distribution (OSD), Optimal Power Usage (OPU), and EV Selection (EVS). A novel probabilistic approach was implemented in the EVS process (using a Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC)) to minimize battery degradation. This paper estimates the seasonal and zonal CO 2 marginal emissions factors (MEFs) from electricity production in the Italian electricity system. The inclusion of the zonal configuration of the Italian wholesale power market leads to a complete measurement of marginal emission factors which takes into account the heterogeneous distribution of RES power plants, their penetration rate and their variability within the zonal power generation mix. This article relies on a flexible econometric approach that includes the fractional cointegration methodology to incorporate the typical features of long-memory processes into the estimation of MEFs. We find high variability in annual MEFs estimated at the zonal level. Sardinia reports the highest MEF (0.7189 tCO 2 /MWh), followed by the Center South (0.7022 tCO 2 /MWh), the Center North (0.4236 tCO 2 /MWh), the North (0.2018 tCO 2 /MWh) and Sicily (0.146 tCO 2 /MWh). The seasonal analysis also shows a large variability of MEFs in each zone across time. The heterogeneity of results leads us to recommend that policymakers consider the zonal configuration of the power market and the large seasonal variability related to carbon emissions and electricity generation when designing incentives for renewable energy sources expansion and for achieving emission reduction targets. Research Area: Building components with integrated energy-active elements (BCEAE) are generally referred to as combined building-energy systems (CBES). Aim: Research on the application of energy (solar) roofs (ESR), ground heat storage (GHS), active thermal protection (ATP), and their cooperation in different modes of operation of energy systems with an emphasis on the use of renewable energy sources (RES) and waste heat. Methodology: The analysis and synthesis of the state of the art in the field, the inductive and analogical form of the creation of an innovative method of operation of combined building-energy systems, the development of an innovative solution of the envelope panel with integrated energy-active elements, the synthesis of the knowledge obtained from the scientific analysis and the transformation of the data into the design and implementation of the prototype of the prefabricated house IDA I and the experimental house EB2020. Results: The theoretical analysis of building structures with active thermal protection results in the determination of their energy potential and functionality, e.g., thermal barrier, heating/cooling, heat storage, etc. New technical solutions for envelopes with controlled heat transfer were proposed based on the implementation of experimental buildings. Conclusions: The novelty of our research lies in the design of different variants of the way of operation of energy systems using RES and in upgrading building envelope panels with integrated energy-active elements.
