In the last 30 years, there are many publications in the literature due to global warming and climate change impacts exhibiting non-stationary behaviors in hydro-meteorology time series records especially in the forms of increasing or decreasing trends. The conventional trend analyzes cover the entire recording time with a single straight-line trend and slope. These methods do not provide information about up and down partial moving trends evolution at shorter durations along the entire record length. This paper proposes a dynamic methodology for identifying such evolutionary finite duration moving trend method (MTM) identifications and interpretations. The purpose of choosing MTM was to investigate the dynamic partial trend evolution over the recording period so that dry (decreasing trend) and wet (increasing trend) segments could be objectively identified and these trends could assist in water resources management in the study area. The moving trend analysis is like the classical moving average methodology with one important digression that instead of arithmetic averages and their horizontal line representations, a series of finite duration successive increasing and decreasing trends are identified over a given hydro-meteorology time series record. In general, partial moving trends of 10-year, 20-year, 30-year and 40-year occur above or below the overall trend and thus provide practical insight into the dynamic trend pattern with important implications. The moving trend methodology is applied to annual records of Danube River discharges, New Jersey state wise temperatures and precipitation time series from the City of Istanbul. Librarians can choose between the career strategy of staying put in one library or moving around to different libraries. Money may be the most important factor; but fringe benefits, cost of living, the librarian's financial needs, and moving expenses also matter. Professional considerations include: current job satisfaction, relationships with colleagues and administration, ultimate career goals, and job security. Lifestyle preferences can play a big part. Finally, moving may impact the librarian's personal relationships. School librarians lack promotion possibilities; the libraries are small and state certification is often needed. Moving between public libraries is easiest because job duties, status of librarians, and organizational structure are similar. The wide differences in special libraries create obstacles. Academic libraries present a complex challenge with differences in status, multiple promotion paths, and more varying responsibilities. The final decision is often less rationally based than most believe. Background and aims: Active aging is the process through which people strive to maintain wellbeing when growing old. Addressing the lack of research on active aging in the context of housing, the aim was to describe active aging among people aged 55 and older considering relocation and investigate whether perceived housing moderates the relationship between functional limitations and active aging. Methods: We utilized cross-sectional data from a sub-sample (N = 820; mean age = 69.7; 54% women) of the Prospective RELOC-AGE. Functional limitations were reported using 10 dichotomous questions. Active aging was assessed with the University of Jyvaskyla Active Aging Scale (UJACAS; 17 items, self-rated for four perspectives). Perceived housing was self-rated with four usability questions and meaning of home (MOH; 28 items). Cross-sectional associations and interactions were analysed using linear regression models, adjusting for gender and educational level. Results: Each functional limitation decreased the active aging score by almost five points (p < 0.001). Usability did not moderate that relationship while MOH significantly attenuated the association between functional limitations and active aging (p = 0.039). Those with high MOH had two points less decrease in active aging score compared to those with low MOH. Discussion and conclusions: Having a home with more personal meaning attached to it seems to provide more ability and opportunity for meaningful activities, thus supporting active aging despite functional limitations. This sheds new light on the known association between MOH and different aspects of wellbeing in old age and has relevance for theory development, housing policies and housing counselling targeting younger older adults. The boundary conditions of the moving layered medium are analyzed and the expressions of electromagnetic field are deduced. The reflection and transmission coefficients in fixed coordinates are obtained by using the covariance characteristic of Maxwell Equations. It is very complicated to apply boundary conditions many times in analyzing a multi-layer slab. In this paper, the results obtained from the boundary conditions of single-layer slab are analogous with those obtained by the transfer matrix method. Through improvement and generalization, the transfer matrix method can be used to calculate the moving multi-layer slabs. It can be applied to calculate the reflection and transmission coefficients of one-dimensional moving photonic crystal as well as deal with TM and TE polarization for the oblique incident. The zero reflection points of TM and TE polarization for layered slab are calculated. The results calculated in this study are matching well with the reference. It shows that the reflection oscillation enhances with the increase of β and layer number, while the changing rule of reflections about TM polarization is relatively complex. Extant research shows that consumers are more likely to donate to close than distant others, making donations to geographically distant beneficiaries a challenge. This article introduces residential mobility as a novel variable that can lead to increased donations toward distant beneficiaries. This article proposes that residential mobility (vs. stability) leads consumers to have a stronger global identity, whereby they see themselves as world citizens. This global identity results in higher donations to distant beneficiaries. A multi-method approach provides evidence for this prediction. An analysis of a national panel dataset demonstrates that high residential mobility is correlated with donations to distant beneficiaries. The nonlinear vibration characteristics of the rotating axially moving circular cylindrical shells in subharmonic regions are investigated in the present paper. The motion equations are carried out based on the Hamilton principle in cylindrical coordinates utilizing Donnell's nonlinear shell theory. By introducing the suitable airy stress function, three equilibrium equations in the cylindrical coordinates are simplified into two nonlinear coupled nonhomogeneous PDEs, including a compatibility equation and the transverse motion equation. The compatibility equation solution is obtained employing the seven degrees of freedom for the flexural mode shape of the system. By implementation of the Galerkin method, the motion equation would be projected into seven nonlinear coupled nonhomogeneous ODEs. This set of equations is solved using a direct normal form method validated by the numerical method and available data. The effect of angular velocity and axial speed is investigated employing frequency and force response curves, bifurcation diagrams, time history, and the system's phase portraits. The dynamics of slab detachment and associated geological fingerprints have been inferred from various numerical and analog models. These invariably use a setup with slab‐pull‐driven convergence in which a slab detaches below a mantle‐stationary trench after the arrest of plate convergence due to arrival of continental lithosphere. In contrast, geological reconstructions show that post‐detachment plate convergence is common and that trenches and sutures are rarely mantle‐stationary during detachment. Here, we identify the more realistic kinematic context of slab detachment using the example of the India‐Asia convergent system. We first show that only the India and Himalayas slabs (from India's northern margin) and the Carlsberg slab (from the western margin) unequivocally detached from Indian lithosphere. Several other slabs below the Indian Ocean do not require a Neotethyan origin and may be of Mesotethys and Paleotethys origin. Additionally, the still‐connected slabs are being dragged together with the Indian plate forward (Hindu Kush) or sideways (Burma, Chaman) through the mantle. We show that Indian slab detachment occurred at moving trenches during ongoing plate convergence, providing more realistic geodynamic conditions for use in future numerical and analog experiments. We identify that the actively detaching Hindu Kush slab is a type‐example of this setting, whilst a 25–13 Ma phase of shallow detachment of the Himalayas slab, here reconstructed from plate kinematics and tomography, agrees well with independent, published geological estimates from the Himalayas orogen of slab detachment. The Sulaiman Ranges of Pakistan may hold the geological signatures of detachment of the laterally dragged Carlsberg slab. Polycrystalline diamonds (PCD) are difficult-to-cut materials due to their ultra-hardness caused by the diamond particles sintered in the materials' structure. Electrical discharge machining is a universal nontraditional method to process electrically conductive hard-to-cut materials by using electro-thermal energy without considering the workpiece's hardness and strength. However, due to the high electrical resistivity caused by the non-conductive diamond particles, EDM machining characteristics of PCD are different from those of metals. Dielectric flushing can disturb the position and shape of the plasma channel, resulting in predictable movements of the sparking spot, which provides the possibility of preventing the discharge from being trapped between the non-conductive particles during each single discharge. This paper explored the potential of improving the processability of PCD by utilizing the moving electric arcs formed by dielectric flushing. Mathematical models were established and simulated to investigate the movement behavior of plasma channels in one single-pulse discharge for the first time. A series of experiments were conducted to investigate the theory and validate the assumptions. The results showed that dielectric flushing stretched the plasma channel and changed the spots of the arcs, which increased the material removal rate and improved the consistency of the processed surface topography. The forced torsional vibration of a nanobeam by using the nonlocal strain gradient theory and incorporating the surface effects is investigated in the current work. The aim of this paper was to analyze the surface effect on the forced torsional vibration of a nanobeam. The simulated nanobeam is under the distributed external torque and moving external harmonic torque. The governing equations are derived by employing the Hamilton principle. The extracted partial differential equation is converted to ordinary differential equation by deploying the Assumed Modes method. The dynamic torsion of clamped–clamped end supports of nanobeam is determined by using the Convolution integral. The effect of nondimensional material length scale parameter, the nondimensional nonlocal parameter, the velocity parameter and the nondimensional moment, on the maximum nondimensional dynamic torsion of nanobeam are studied. Eventually, the effect of residual surface torsion and surface shear modulus on the maximum nondimensional dynamic torsion of nanobeam, which is obtained from the nonlocal strain gradient theory under the distributed torsional and moving harmonic dynamic moments, is studied. Employers contract with relocation management companies (RMCs) to help employees transfer from one location to another. In an efficient market, the selling price and time on the market (TOM) should not vary based on the nature of the seller. However, RMCs provide sellers with relocation package benefits that may affect TOM and selling price. This study examines a sample of 24,493 sales from 1998 to 2017, which includes 831 relocation sales. Relocation properties are more expensive, newer, and have more amenities than other transactions. The properties are less likely to be occupied during the listing period. Relocation sales of smaller properties sell 22.7% more quickly and at a 3.3% price premium in 1998–2007. TOM is 29.7% shorter for larger relocation properties in 2012–2017, suggesting more generous relocation packages for higher-level employees. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study applied the theory of planned behavior to examine predictors of U.S. older adults' (65+ years) intention and behavior of moving to a nursing home. Two waves of Health and Retirement Study data were used (N = 9,969). Moving intention was measured by respondents' self-reported probability to move in the next 5 years in Wave 1. Moving behavior was measured by whether they actually moved in Wave 2. Structural equation modeling was used to examine the relationships of demographic and health predictors with moving intention and behavior. For both genders, advanced age, poorer health, having fewer children, and long-term care insurance were associated with higher levels of moving intention and behavior. Men's intention was a significant predictor of subsequent moving behavior. However, women's intention was not associated with moving behavior, probably due to inadequate resources to support their preference. This article focuses on Descartes's vision on how the dimensions of the organism connect with each other. Re-reading Descartes is proposed as an antidote against endemic cultural dualism, in a world in which medical institutions, still describe human beings using dualistic terms such as 'psychosomatic', 'body psychotherapy', or 'body-mind' systems. It also introduces Descartes as an early scientific medical researcher who developed a scientific interactionist and organismic approach of embodiment. This paper is framed by my interest in the development of an 'organismic psychology', which assumes that physiological, behavioural, and psychological routines are embedded heterogeneous cogwheels of a human being. Painless legs and moving toes (PoLMT) is a rare variant of painful legs and moving toes (PLMT). The difference is the absence of pain, which is usually hard to manage in PLMT. An involuntary movement in the toes is a compound of both. Although there are many medication options for this disease, most fail to treat it successfully. Here, we report on a 62-year-old female with involuntary movements in her toes for five years. The rarity and unclear etiology of the disease are the reasons we wanted to present it. Mohsin Hamid's novel "Exit West" (2017) deals with the issue of migration in the contemporary world. This article aims at analysing the migratory process underwent by the main characters in terms of various experiences they have while moving from one place to another after leaving their home country, which is probably Pakistan, since it is the author s home country. In the novel, migration happens through magical doors, which demonstrates that it is relatively easy to move, but it does not mean that it is easy to settle in the new places in which the protagonists find themselves. During the pre-migration stage the characters face danger even when they are at home, so various traumatic experiences force them to leave. During the migratory stage they live with little food and sleep outdoors in Mykonos. Then they go through life threatening events in London. The post-migratory period starts only in Marin (the United States of America), but the protagonists separate in this final migration stage. Even though the protagonists of the novel are migrants, the very process of migration lacks descriptions of travelling and movement. The characters find themselves in different locations, but the way they actually get there is missing. As a result, the reader does not learn about the hardships that real-life migrants would experience and it feels like a substantial part of the complexity of migrant experience is not revealed, despite the fact that the protagonists go through numerous negative and even traumatic experiences in all stages (pre-, during, and post-) of migration after appearing in different countries when they enter through the doors. Since migration involves leaving one's place of residence, it is not surprising that later it leads to the search of similarities and differences between the former and the present place of living. One's homeland may be seen as conjuring up feelings of nostalgia, as a place that reminds of one's native language, values, traditions, and meals. In the novel, all this is portrayed through the character of Saeed who experiences difficulty trying to get used to the different environment and people and fit in. However, Nadia is portrayed as the character that gets accustomed to new locations and environment more easily and can move from place to place without difficulty. In other words, the two protagonists represent how migration experience can be perceived by different people, since for some it is positive, while for others it is not. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, we have been interviewing eight young Sámi men about experience with rural-urban and majority-minority transition. The analyses revealed that the transition affected three dimensions in their life: actors, activities, and aims for the futures. The important actors transformed from relatives to friends. Desirable duties transformed to leisure and sports activities. The transformation of aims for the future was guided by birget (to manage or to handle): a Sámi concept meaning to cope in your life, both independently and together with others. We suggest that social workers can use the three A's (actors, activities, and aims for the future) in an intervention to enhance the well-being for indigenous young men on the move. Purpose: Multiple sclerosis is a chronic neurological disease with the highest prevalence in Canada. Replacing sedentary behavior with light activities may be a feasible approach to manage multiple sclerosis symptoms. This study explored the perspectives of adults with multiple sclerosis about sedentary behavior, physical activity and ways to change behavior. Methods: Fifteen adults with multiple sclerosis (age 43 ± 13 years; mean ± standard deviation), recruited through the multiple sclerosis Clinic at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada, participated in semi-structured interviews. Interview audios were transcribed verbatim and coded. NVivo software was used to facilitate the inductive process of thematic analysis. Results: Balancing competing priorities between sitting and moving was the primary theme. Participants were aware of the benefits of physical activity to their overall health, and in the management of fatigue and muscle stiffness. Due to fatigue, they often chose sitting to get their energy back. Further, some barriers included perceived fear of losing balance or embarrassment while walking. Activity monitoring, accountability, educational and individualized programs were suggested strategies to motivate more movement. Conclusions: Adults with multiple sclerosis were open to the idea of replacing sitting with light activities. Motivational and educational programs are required to help them to change sedentary behavior to moving more. One of the most challenging and common difficulties of multiple sclerosis is walking impairment that worsens because of multiple sclerosis progression, and is a common goal in the rehabilitation of people with multiple sclerosis. The deterioration in walking abilities is related to lower levels of physical activity and more sedentary behavior, such that adults with multiple sclerosis spend 8 to 10.5 h per day sitting. Replacing prolonged sedentary behavior with light physical activities, and incorporating education, encouragement, and self-monitoring strategies are feasible approaches to manage the symptoms of multiple sclerosis. Life-course transitions among older adults often produce a reshuffling of social network members. Moving is a common experience for U.S. seniors, but relatively little is known about how core networks change amid the relocation process. Drawing on longitudinal data from the National Social Life, Health, and Aging Project, the present study examines how late-life moving is associated with changes to network size and the loss and gain of particular network members. We find that when older adults undertake a long-distance move, they tend to add more family to their core network—yet this is moderated by their initial level of functional health. Long-distance moves are also associated with losing nonkin members from the core network. These empirical patterns are interpreted in light of developmental perspectives on late-life relocation, continuity theory, and the social convoy model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: As an artist working with sound and the moving image, an in-between space is revealed, a flux between two distinct mediums that intersect as temporal experience and sensory synchronisation. The audio–visual relationship is a pattern of constantly shifting moments of connection and discordance, an ephemeral dance of timing and rhythm that binds together to create a cinematic expression of time and event. The paper aims to discuss this issue. Design/methodology/approach: In this paper, the author will consider the audio-visual event and the space that exists between the visual and the sonic via the frame of my own art practice. Through this context, the author will examine audio–visual relations from practice through to presentation, challenging the belief that sound is merely a support for the moving image and propose that it is an equal if not driving force in the audio-visual contract. The author will also investigate sound-based disciplines that the author utilize in my own work, all of which highlight the materiality of sound and how it can be engaged to directly affect the production and installation of moving image works in a gallery context. Findings: Utilizing listening in this way has revealed surprising or overlooked connections that visually the author would otherwise have not acknowledged. It has helped link together interests across geography and cartography by expanding on what is not seen and can only be heard, and therefore revealing a new space of information. And it has emboldened the author to investigate the geographies of sound by supplying a way to follow associative connections across a range of environments. To implement the Lorentz finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method in a 3D case, this communication presents the transformation formulas of the spatial and time increments, the field components, and the incident plane wave between the moving system and the laboratory system. The radiated fields from a moving dipole source are shown to verify the accuracy and validity of the proposed transformation formulas. The relative errors are within an acceptable range. The scattered fields of a moving metallic sphere are also illustrated to verify the validity of the proposed method. And, the scattered fields from a complex pyramid-shaped target are discussed. This study investigates vibration characteristics of longitudinally moving sigmoid functionally graded material (S-FGM) plates containing porosities. Two types of porosity distribution, i.e., the even and uneven distributions, are taken into account. In accordance with the sigmoid distribution rule, the material properties of porous S-FGM plates vary smoothly along the plate thickness direction. The nonlinear geometrical relations are adopted by using the von Kármán non-linear plate theory. Based on the d’Alembert’s principle, the nonlinear governing equation of the system is derived. Then, the governing equation is discretized to a set of ordinary differential equations via the Galerkin method. These discretized equations are subsequently solved by using the method of harmonic balance. Analytical solutions are verified with the aid of the adaptive step-size fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. By using the perturbation technique, the stability of the steady-state response is highlighted. Finally, both natural frequencies and nonlinear forced responses of moving porous S-FGM plates are examined. Results demonstrate that the moving porous S-FGM plates exhibit hardening spring characteristics in the nonlinear frequency response. Moreover, it is shown that the type of porosity distribution, moving speed, porosity volume fraction, constituent volume fraction and in-plane pretension all have significant influence on the nonlinear forced responses of moving porous S-FGM plates. The article focuses on the Moving Protocol Document introduced for the relocation of collections from the National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History of Peru (MNAAHP) in Lima, Peru, to the New National Museum (MUNA). Topics discussed include lack of knowledge in implementing preventive conservation guidelines, some collections kept at the original site facing risk due to failures in storage planning, and employing staff responsible for registration, tracking, conservation, photography and packaging, and managing the collection database compatible with the inventory and cataloging.

Previous research has shown that housing insecurity contributes to animal relinquishment and that tenants with dogs face disadvantages in the rental market. Still, little is known about how dog owners navigate rental markets, nor how landlords and property managers perceive dogs and other pets. This case study reports on in-depth interviews with younger tenants with dogs and on open-ended survey responses from landlords and property managers. In their housing searches, tenants with dogs reported feeling powerless in negotiations and feeling discriminated against. They described settling for substandard properties, often located in less desirable neighborhoods. Also, some said they felt obliged to stay put in these rentals, given how difficult it had been to find a place that would accommodate their dogs. Meanwhile, landlords and property managers indicated that listings advertised as "pet-friendly" tend to receive more applicants than listings in which pets are prohibited. Suggestions for improvement included meeting pets prior to signing the lease; getting everything in writing; steering clear from furnished units; charging utilities to tenants; and speeding up the pet approval process when dealing with condominium boards. These suggestions offer implications for future research, partnerships, and policy options to improve the prospects of pets and their people in rental housing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article focuses on the relocation of museum collections from the National Museum of Archaeology, Anthropology and History of Peru (MNAAHP) to the national museum supposed to be constructed in Pachacamac, Lima in Peru. It discusses how the relocation was difficult due to political concern on collection of cultural artifacts especially the pre-Hispanic heritage, how moving have to concern with management, operation and transportation systems. It also talks about how some collections' museum of origin is considered for assets dispersion.

An Augmented virtual environment (AVE) is concerned with the fusion of real-time video with 3D models or scenes so as to augment the virtual environment. In this paper, a new approach to establish an AVE with a wide field of view is proposed, including real-time video projection, multiple video texture fusion and 3D visualization of moving objects. A new diagonally weighted algorithm is proposed to smooth the apparent gaps within the overlapping area between the two adjacent videos. A visualization method for the location and trajectory of a moving virtual object is proposed to display the moving object and its trajectory in the 3D virtual environment. The experimental results showed that the proposed set of algorithms are able to fuse multiple real-time videos with 3D models efficiently, and the experiment runs a 3D scene containing two million triangles and six real-time videos at around 55 frames per second on a laptop with 1GB of graphics card memory. In addition, a realistic AVE with a wide field of view was created based on the Digital Earth Science Platform by fusing three videos with a complex indoor virtual scene, visualizing a moving object and drawing its trajectory in the real time. Geometrically nonlinear oscillations are investigated on sigmoid functionally graded material (S-FGM) plates with a longitudinal speed. The material properties of the plates obey a sigmoid distribution rule along the thickness direction. Based on the D'Alembert's principle, a nonlinear equation of motion is derived for the moving S-FGM plates, where the von K´arm´an nonlinear plate theory is adopted. Utilizing the Galerkin method, the equation of motion is discretized and solved via the method of harmonic bal-ance. The approximate analytical solutions are validated through the adaptive step-size fourth-order Runge-Kutta method. Besides, the stability of the steady-state solutions is examined. The results reveal that the mode interaction behavior can happen between the first two modes of the moving S-FGM plates, leading to a complex nonlinear frequency response. It is further found that the power-law index, the longitudinal speed, the exci-tation amplitude, and the in-plane pretension force can significantly affect the nonlinear frequency-response characteristics of longitudinally traveling S-FGM plates. Previous research has found that moving has lasting effects on housing satisfaction while adaptation to changing living environments is surprisingly absent from this research. This paper challenges and extends this current state of research. Using data from a large-scale German household panel we find that housing satisfaction (a) sharply declines before the move ( self- selection into relocation), (b) substantially increases after moving ( relocation effect), (c) declines in the following years ( adaptation), (d) after about 2 years reaches satisfaction levels similar to the levels several years before the move ( full adaptation), (e) but due to selection into moving stays above satisfaction levels in the years directly before the move ( lasting gains due to self- selection). Further analyses indicate that moving due to house-related reasons leads to partly lasting gains, while moving due to significant life events only has temporary effects. Finally, we show that permanent changes in housing satisfaction due to house-related relocations can be fully explained using self-assessed comparisons between old and new living environment. Several studies on burglary concern the psychological impact on victims of burglary. However, little research exists on changes in behavior with regard to burglary experiences. The present analysis focuses on choice behavior after a burglary by differentiating moving and safety precaution behavior as well as passivity. Here, a sample of N = 1329 victims of burglary from five big cities in Germany is used. The main findings indicate that psychological strain, age, housing condition, household income, social cohesion, and social disorganization are relevant predictors of choice behavior after a burglary. Device-to-device (D2D) communications have been proposed as a promising technology to improve network capacity and user experiences. In this letter, we make theoretical analyses on D2D mode selection with user mobility. Using the stochastic geometry, we deduced that the D2D communication range can be well represented by biased circles with varying radius. Besides, a tractable analytical framework considering both absolute movement and relative movement for mode selection in moving D2D scenarios is presented. Under the proposed model, the closed-form expressions of D2D mode transition rate and D2D mode residence time are derived, which are the key parameters for moving D2D mode selection performance. To study relations between childhood residential mobility and early adult outcomes, we use detailed longitudinal data on complete cohorts born in Norway between 1965 and 1980 (N = 967 151) and information on all their relocations between municipalities. Results from models with and without sibling-fixed effects show that children with more residential moves are more likely to drop out of high school, to have a lower adult income and to experience early parenthood, although most of these associations are weaker in the sibling fixed effects models. We also find that age at moving matters: the outcomes are similar for children who move or remain in place prior to elementary school, whereas those who move in adolescence are worse off than those who do not. This paper examines the survival strategies of the unemployed by using the data from the 2008, 2010-2011 and 2012 National Income Dynamics Study. We find that in response to unemployment and almost no unemployment insurance, unemployed individuals look to parents, relatives and friends for economic support. They are more likely to attach themselves to households that have some income through an employed member or receipt of state support. In many cases, the unemployed delay setting up their own households while others move back into family households when faced with persistent unemployment. We use a probit model to show that the unemployed who move are more likely to be employed when interviewed the second or third time. The effects of moving on employment status are significant and positive when we take into account household and individual characteristics. Moving allows the unemployed to get ahead. The article focuses on a study on body formed with an integrated nervous system during prenatal development and infant perceived by direct application in dance movement psychotherapy. Topics discussed include body movement rooted in attributes of the human body and the multimodal nervous integration, embodiment of psychological processes in body movement, creative project represented by imaginative self in the pattern of body movement and disturbance of emotional states due to mental illness.

A provocation … the minds of my generation of organizational theorists are haunted by the spectre of scientific discourse, shoehorned into dry genres, bullied by audit regimes that try to wring the passion out of thought. Without gaiety, the science that calls us has no exuberance, it cannot dance. What are the possibilities for writing about organizations that allows the heart's instincts to be followed, the vast possibilities of expression to be explored and enjoyed? I explore this through a form of writing known as fictocriticism – a writing engaged in genre-bending as a literary and theoretical engagement with existence and selfhood. Why import this term into organization studies? Might fictocriticism have some value to ‘us’ who locate ourselves here? I am engaging in a form of romance; a courtship of ideas from elsewhere.
