Purpose: To assess the impact of implant placement at different time intervals on the esthetic and clinical outcomes in the esthetic zone. Materials and Methods: A literature screening was conducted in PubMed (MEDLINE), ScienceDirect, and Cochrane databases. Relevant articles were included according to selection criteria and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Data was collected from studies published from 2017 to 2022 in English. Results: Nine articles were included, in which a total of 495 implants were placed; 250 of the implants were immediate, 109 were early, and 136 were delayed. Immediate implant placement (IIP) showed no statistically significant difference in Pink Esthetic Score (PES) compared with delayed implant placement (DIP). IIP showed significantly higher PES in comparison with early implant placement (EIP) (mean difference [MD] = -0.76; 95% CI = -1.50 to -0.02; P = .04). The probing depth (PD) was considerably greater for immediate implants than for delayed implants (MD = -0.62; 95% CI = -1.05 to -0.18; P = .005), and the Plaque Index (PI) was statistically greater for early implants compared with immediate implants (MD = 0.15; 95% CI = 0.11 to 0.19; P < .00001). All other soft tissue outcomes showed equal results. The marginal bone loss (MBL) was statistically higher in early implants compared with immediate implants (MD = 0.09; 95% CI = 0.02 to 0.16; P = .02). Conclusions: IIP had significantly superior PES, MBL, and PI results when compared with EIP. The PD was significantly higher for immediate implants compared with delayed implants. All other outcomes showed no significant difference between the three implant groups. Objective: Currently, there is no established treatment protocol to treat interdental papillary loss. This research aimed to evaluate the outcomes of interdental papillary reconstruction using minimally invasive surgery, with injectable hyaluronic acid gel. Method and materials: Seventeen patients were included, each with five sites of class 1 papillary recession (40 sites in the maxilla and 45 sites in the mandible). Subperiosteal tunneling was performed through a horizontal incision made apical to the base of the papilla without penetrating it. The free gingival sulcus was sealed by 000 retraction cord. A total of 0.2 to 0.6 mL hyaluronic acid was injected gradually. The incision was sutured with poly-glycolic sutures. Treated sites underwent clinical and digital evaluation at three follow-up time points (1 month, 3 months, and 6 months). Results: The interdental papillary defect height in the maxillary sites significantly reduced by 60%, 66%, and 42% at 1,3, and 6 months, respectively. In mandibular sites, the reduction was 54%, 55%, and 40% at the same follow-up time points. Regarding interdental papillary defect surface area in the maxilla, the reduction was 65%, 71%, and 45% at 1, 3, and 6 months. In the mandible, a reduction of 60%, 64%, and 48% was noticed at the same time points. Regarding patients' pain level score, during the day of surgery, 16 patients reported pain; the average pain score out of 10 was 3.94, and 11 patients (64.7%) needed to take analgesics. The pain generally subsided in the following days. At the day of treatment, 12 out of the 17 patients (70.6%) reported mild difficulty in speaking and eating. No complication, hypersensitivity, or allergy was noted in any patient. Conclusion: Subperiosteal tunneling with hyaluronic acid injection demonstrates clinical improvements in papilla height and papillary recession surface area reduction after 3 months of follow-up, with reduction in improvement after 6 months. Clinical significance: Adjunctive use of hyaluronic acid injection with minimally invasive surgery in interdental papillary management may improve clinical and esthetic outcomes. Background Injectable poly-D,L-lactic acid (PDLLA), under the brand name of AestheFill (REGEN Biotech, Inc. Seoul, South Korea), is a biocompatible, biodegradable, and biostimulatory product utilized to correct soft tissue volume loss. Its efficacy and safety have not been fully studied in a large cohort. Objectives The aim of the study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a novel dermal filler injectable, poly-D,L-lactic acid. Methods This was an evaluator-blinded, multicenter, randomized controlled trial to compare the efficacy and safety of PDLLA vs hyaluronic acid in the correction of the nasolabial fold. Two hundred and sixty patients with moderate to severe nasolabial folds were enrolled and randomized to the treatment group (PDLLA) or control group (hyaluronic acid). Each patient received a PDLLA or hyaluronic acid injection for nasolabial fold augmentation and was followed for 52 weeks. The Wrinkle Severity Rating Scale (WSRS) and Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) were applied to evaluate topical nasolabial fold augmentation and overall improvement, respectively. Results At 24 weeks, 67.6% of patients in the PDLLA group had an at least 1-grade improvement on the WSRS, compared to 60.9% of patients in the control group with an at least 1-grade improvement on the WSRS (P <.05). At each visit, the PDLLA group showed more improvement on the baseline WSRS than the control group. PDLLA was safe and well tolerated, with no severe adverse events. Background Management of the dorsum continues to present challenges for rhinoplasty surgeons, especially regarding the inherent asymmetry of the bony and cartilaginous vaults and the need for a highly individualized approach for each case. Objectives The aim of this study was to assess the efficiency of superficial dorsal modification to improve the shape and symmetry of the dorsum, without resecting/reconstructing the main parts that maintain dorsal stability. Methods A total of 147 patients who underwent superficial dorsal modification between October 2020 and March 2024 were retrospectively reviewed. A step-by-step algorithm was applied to achieve the required dorsal improvement. Results The average postoperative follow-up period was 27 months (range, 12-41 months). No patients required revision surgery of their dorsum. No complications were reported. A retrospective analysis of the 147 patients demonstrated aesthetic and functional improvement. Conclusions Dorsal modification as a separate philosophy is a very conservative, fast, and reliable approach. In cases where there is no need to significantly change dorsal dimensions (height and width), dorsal modification improves the dorsum quickly and efficiently without significant resection and no reconstruction, while maintaining stability and maximum predictability. Background A well-defined jawline improves overall facial aesthetics, motivating patients to seek jawline augmentation. Objectives In this study we evaluated the safety and effectiveness of the hyaluronic acid injectable gel VYC-25L for restoring jawline definition. Methods In a US multicenter, evaluator-blinded study adults with grade 2 (moderate) or 3 (severe) Allergan Loss of Jawline Definition Scale (ALJDS) scores were randomized. Participants were randomized to the VYC-25L treatment group or control group at study onset, with 12-month follow-up. The control group had the option to receive treatment after 6 months (primary endpoint completion). Effectiveness measures included Month 6 ALJDS responders rate (proportion of participants with ≥1-grade improvement from baseline on both sides), FACE-Q Satisfaction With Lower Face and Jawline scores, and Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) responders (improved/much improved) as assessed by the investigator and participants. Injection site responses (ISRs) and adverse events (AEs) were monitored. Results At Month 6, ALJDS responder rates were 69.0% vs 38.0% in the VYC-25L treatment (n = 157) and control (n = 49) groups, respectively (P =.0001). In the VYC-25L treatment group, FACE-Q scores improved by a mean of 45.9 points from baseline at Month 6 (P <.0001). Furthermore, 88.4% and 89.0% of participants in the VYC-25L treatment group were GAIS responders at Month 6 by participant and investigator assessment, respectively. Most ISRs were mild or moderate and resolved within 2 weeks. Most treatment-related AEs were mild and resolved within 1 week. Background Over the past decade, the use of poly-4-hydroxybutyrate (P4HB) in aesthetic breast surgery has grown in popularity. Published data on long-term outcomes, however, is scarce. Objectives The purpose of this study was to assess long-term outcomes with utilization of P4HB in various aesthetic breast procedures. Methods A retrospective review of all patients undergoing breast procedures with P4HB was performed by the senior author between July 2012 and March 2022. All patients with greater than 1 year of follow-up were evaluated, including demographics, surgical indications, complications, secondary procedures, and patient satisfaction. A Kruskal-Wallis test was performed to assess the stability of satisfaction over time. Results A total of 248 patients were evaluated. The mean follow-up length was 2.9 years (range, 1-9.3 years). The most common surgical indication was breast ptosis, which comprised 68% (n = 167) of patients. The overall complication rate was 8.0% (n = 20), with an unplanned reoperation rate of 2.8% (n = 7). Across the entire study population, the mean satisfaction score was 3.42 out of 4. When satisfaction scores were compared to follow-up length, Kruskal-Wallis test demonstrated no statistical differences (H = 18.2, P =.89, degrees of freedom [df]= 2), suggesting stability of satisfaction over time. Conclusions This study presents the senior author's entire experience with P4HB across a wide range of aesthetic breast procedures. With an average follow-up length of almost 3 years, P4HB appears to be a both safe and effective tool to support soft tissue in aesthetic breast surgery. Background Cosmetic breast surgeries such as augmentation, mastopexy, and reduction are common aesthetic medical procedures for enhancing physical appearance. Despite their popularity, the influence of these surgeries on subsequent breast reconstruction for cancer patients remains underexplored. Objectives In this study we sought to investigate the effects of previous cosmetic breast surgeries on the outcomes of breast reconstruction. Methods A retrospective chart review was conducted from January 2011 to May 2023. This analysis compared patients with histories of implant augmentation, breast reduction, mastopexy, and augmentation mastopexy with those receiving reconstruction without any cosmetic surgery history. Demographics, comorbidities, complications, revisions, and BREAST-Q surveys were collected. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS, with significance set at P <.05. Results The study included 124 patients (50 autologous, 74 implant) with a history of cosmetic breast surgery (102 implant augmentations, 17 breast reductions, 5 mastopexies, and 9 augmentation mastopexies). They were analyzed in comparison with 1307 patients (683 autologous, 624 implant) without previous cosmetic breast surgery. Patients with previous cosmetic surgeries showed a higher incidence of hematoma with tissue expander placement. A preference for implant-based reconstruction was more common among patients with an augmentation history (P <.001), whereas autologous reconstruction was more common in those with a history of breast reduction (P =.047). Patients with a history of breast augmentation had on average significantly more breast revisions (P <.05). Conclusions In this study we demonstrate a significantly higher hematoma rate and number of revisions in patients with previous cosmetic breast surgery when compared to patients without a history of cosmetic surgery. Objectives: This study aimed to investigate factors that influence the 12-month outcomes after the treatment of multiple gingival recessions (GRs) with a modified coronally advanced tunnel (MCAT) and a subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG), with cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA, tests) or without (controls). Materials and Methods: Twenty-four patients with 266 GRs were treated. A logistic regression model was set to identify the baseline parameters that could predict the 12-month outcomes. The study protocol was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (ID No. NCT05045586). Results: The evaluated clinical and esthetic parameters showed marked improvement in both groups without any statistically significant differences between the groups, with the exception of the soft tissue texture (STT). The STT was in favor of the HA group (0.96 versus 0.73, p = 0.0091). The likelihood of an MRC > 85%, of achieving CRC, and of gaining an RES = 10 was the highest for the incisors (reference group) and the lowest for the molars (OR = 0.046, p = 0.005). With each 1 mm increase in the baseline clinical attachment level, the odds of failure (MRC < 85%, not achieving CRC) increased, whereas each 1 mm increase in the baseline keratinized tissue width (KTW) improved the chances of an MRC > 85%, of achieving CRC, and of gaining an RES = 10. The application of HA increased the likelihood of a perfect RES more than twofold (OR = 2.683, p = 0.001). Conclusions: The application of HA improved the 12-month esthetic outcomes after the treatment of GRs with the MCAT technique. The baseline CAL, KTW, and tooth type predicted the 12-month MRC, CRC, and RES. OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of the nose and chin on the cephalometric lip profile. METHODS AND MATERIAL: The pre-treatment lateral cephalograms of 177 adult patients with no history of orthodontic treatment were manually traced. The sample size was divided into three vertical and horizontal groups using angle ANB and MMA to assess the difference in nose and chin forms. The horizontal and vertical groups were analyzed using One-way ANOVA and Kruskal–Wallis. The Independent sample t -test and Mann–Whitney U were used for comparison between the two genders. The correlation of nose and chin with E, S line, and nasolabial angle was done using the Spearman correlation coefficient while the effect was assessed using linear regression analysis. RESULTS: Among the nasal variables, columellar length inversely affects the linear position of the upper lip and this was statistically significant. The nasolabial angle is also affected by the inclination of the nasal base and this was statistically significant. The linear distance of the soft tissue chin in relation to the maxilla has the most effect on the position of the upper lip. It is notable that all hard and soft tissue chin variables inversely affected the linear position of the upper and lower lips. CONCLUSIONS: The quantitative measure of the effect of the nose and chin on lips is important as it allows clinicians to determine the overall effect of adjunctive procedures at pretreatment levels. Thus, corrective procedures such as rhinoplasty or genioplasty can be done at pre-orthodontic treatment stages to create a better treatment plan for patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article describes the case of a ten-year-old boy who sought orthodontic treatment after dental trauma three years ago, which led to the avulsion of the upper right central incisor. Topics include factors to which the decision to open or close a space is attributed, orthodontic treatment, and restorative treatment.

Objective: Quantify the cost benefits of otoplasty under local as opposed to general anaesthesia. Design: A cost analysis of all components of otoplasty surgery under local anaesthesia (LA) in a minor operating room (OR) and general anaesthesia in a main OR was performed. Setting: Our institution, compared to provincial/federal data, with costs converted into 2022 Canadian dollars. Patients, Participants: Patients undergoing otoplasty under LA in the last year. Interventions: An efficiency analysis was performed by means of an opportunity cost, and the cost of failure was added to the overall LA costs. Main Outcome Measure: Expenses for infrastructure, surgical and anaesthetic material, salaries, and personnel costs were derived from the literature, our hospital OR catalog and federal/provincial salary data, respectively. The cost of failure to tolerate local anaesthesia for such cases was also tabulated. Results: The true cost of LA otoplasty was computed as the absolute cost ($611.73) added to the cost of failure ($10.80), resulting in a total of $622.53/procedure. The true cost of GA otoplasty was calculated as the absolute cost ($2033.05) added to the opportunity cost ($1108.94), representing 3141.99$/procedure. The total savings when performing LA otoplasty to GA otoplasty are thus 2519.44$/case, with 1 GA otoplasty costing 5.05 LA otoplasties. Conclusion: Otoplasty under local anaesthesia offers significant cost savings when compared with the same procedure under general anaesthesia. The severe gummy smile and a skeletal class II profile pose challenges in treatment. This case report outlines an effective alternative for addressing these problems in a patient with skeletal class II division 2, class II molar relationship, retroclination of upper incisors, and lip protrusion. Treatment objectives included normalizing the overjet and overbite, improving the gummy smile, and establishing a satisfactory occlusion. A three-dimensional simulation was performed to consult with the patient, assess possible results, and predict treatment biomechanics. The treatment involved the use of two zygomatic and one inter-radicular temporary anchorage devices, along with botulinum toxin. After the 2-year follow-up, a satisfactory dental occlusion, aesthetic improvement, and adequate function were achieved. This approach offers a viable alternative to orthognathic surgery for adults with skeletal class II malocclusion and a severe gummy smile due to hypermobile lip. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background Breast augmentation is one of the most common aesthetic procedures worldwide. Most studies have focused on evaluating the outcome with validated patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) and factors that may influence them. However, the influence of care delivery, which can be measured with patient-reported experience measures (PREMs), is rarely considered in studies of breast augmentation patients. Objectives In this study we aimed to evaluate the associations between PREMs and PROMs in patients who underwent breast augmentation. Methods A multicenter cohort study was conducted in breast augmentation patients. Patients completed PREMs, including items such as communication between physician and patient, expectation management, welcome, and hygiene, and the BREAST-Q PROM (satisfaction with breasts and psychosocial, physical, and sexual well-being) preoperatively and 6 months postoperatively. Regression analyses were performed to investigate the associations between PREMs and PROMs. Results Overall, 329 patients were included between 2018 and 2022. Univariate regression analysis showed a positive association between PREM and PROM scales. The feeling of being heard (B = −38.39 and B = −18.90), the opportunity to ask questions (B = −9.21), and trust in their physician (B = −39.08) had the highest association with change in the 4 BREAST-Q scales. The multivariable regression analysis showed that the variance in PROMs related to changes in PREMs (19%) was little influenced by patient characteristics (1%). Conclusions Patient outcomes are more positive after breast augmentation when patients feel they are being heard, have the opportunity to ask questions, and have trust in their physician. Background Keloids are excessive formations of scar tissue that develop at the site of a skin injury. Due to their invasive nature, they have a negative impact on the skin's appearance and are prone to recurrence, making them a challenging condition to treat with regard to skin aesthetics. Objectives The objective of this article was to compare the long-term effects of dermatologic trephination with nonsurgical treatments for scars and evaluate the clinical value of the treatments. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted of 48 patients who received keloid treatment in the Department of Dermatology and Department of Thoracic Surgery at our hospital from January 2021 to October 2023. Twenty-four patients received dermatologic trephination, and 24 patients received nonsurgical treatment. Outcome measures included scar appearance, scar healing time, pain and itching levels, and patient satisfaction. Results The healing time of patients receiving dermatologic trephination was significantly shorter than that of patients in the nonsurgical group. The degree of itching in patients undergoing dermatologic trephination was significantly lower than that of patients in the nonsurgical group. The satisfaction of patients who received dermatologic trephination was significantly higher than that of patients in the nonsurgical group. Conclusions In this study we demonstrated that trephination achieves better long-term results in keloid revision, including improved keloid appearance, itching symptoms, and patient satisfaction. Background In 2022, the US experienced a significant increase in demand for minimally invasive aesthetic procedures, underscoring its rising acceptance amid an unregulated educational environment for practitioners. The absence of standardized educational pathways and quality control in aesthetic medicine, primarily provided by nonacademic institutions, highlights a critical need for establishing educational standards to ensure practitioner competence and patient safety. Objectives The aim of this study was to identify levels of competency for the aesthetic practitioner and necessary achievement milestones during the educational path from novice to expert injector. Methods A total of n = 386 international study participants responded to an online questionnaire regarding their experience in aesthetic medicine practice. The questionnaire comprised 58 questions focusing on professional data, the perceived difficulty of injection, and risk for the occurrence of adverse events for specific facial regions in soft tissue filler and toxin injections. Results Regardless of medical specialty and experience level, averages of 3.85 (1.8) years, 786.4 (2628) filler injections and 549.9 (1543) toxin injections were estimated to progress from novice to advanced injector, while averages of 6.10 (3.7) years, 1842.2 (4793) filler injections, and 1308.5 (3363) toxin injections were estimated to advance from advanced to expert injector. The nose and the perioral region have been ranked as the facial regions where it is most difficult to achieve a perfect aesthetic outcome and with the greatest risk for the occurrence of adverse events for filler and toxin injections, respectively. Conclusions In this study we establish an educational framework in aesthetic medicine by defining the progression from novice to competent and expert injector levels, suggesting 4 years of practice and over 790 filler and 550 neuromodulator injections for competence, and at least 6 years with 1840 filler and 1310 neuromodulator injections for expertise. Background Reduction mammaplasty relieves macromastia symptoms while improving breast aesthetics, although the ideal breast aesthetically has been shown to differ culturally in previous crowdsourcing studies. Better understanding these differences can aid in setting postoperative expectations. Objectives The aim of this study was to characterize the ideal reduction mammaplasty according to demographics such as gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and education. Methods A crowdsourcing platform was utilized to collect 10,169 deidentified responses. Users completed 1 of 3 surveys, either a preoperative, postoperative, or preoperative and postoperative paired survey. The preoperative and postoperative surveys addressed 10 breast measurements, including upper breast slope, projection proportion, nipple position, breast width, and breast fullness. The paired preoperative and postoperative survey assessed the nipple-areola complex (NAC), chest fit, symmetry improvement, and scarring. Results Preoperative images were rated more aesthetic than postoperative images. This was consistent across all demographics evaluated. Females, African Americans, Asians, participants ages 55+, and participants with no high school degree or a graduate degree found the most improvement in breast symmetry (P =.001, P =.002, P =.027, P <.001, P =.01). Male and Hispanic participants were most likely to see no change in symmetry (P =.008, P =.04), and South Asian participants found breasts less symmetric postoperatively (P <.001). There were significant demographic differences in aesthetic ratings of the NAC, scarring, and breast fit. Conclusions Perceived breast aesthetics after reduction mammaplasty vary significantly across demographics, including gender, ethnicity, age, socioeconomic status, and educational achievement. Cryolipolysis (CL) is a noninvasive technique in which applicators cool tissue to temperatures that selectively destroy adipocytes. Since its introduction to the market, it has rapidly become one of the leading nonsurgical modalities to reduce fat in the aesthetic industry. Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH) is a rare adverse reaction to CL, in which there is initial reduction in fat volume, followed by abnormal fat growth exceeding the original volume in the treated area. The incidence of PAH is thought to be underreported, and its pathophysiology and management remains unclear. In her 2010 article "Aesthetic Wit(h)nessing in the Era of Trauma", Griselda Pollock lamented the aperture between psychology, particularly that of PTSD, and esthetics in the search to bear witness to traumatic experience. This article explores the gray area that exists when the esthetic and the traumatic converge, arguing that such areas exist not only as direct representations of the difficulty of narrativizing trauma as described by such theorists as Cathy Caruth, Onno van der Hart, and Bessel van der Kolk, but also simultaneously as windows into the moments of what Dominick LaCapra calls "the sublime object of endless melancholia and impossible mourning". Postmodernism is argued to be the organic choice of voicing traumatic retellings, and close readings of John Hersey's proto-postmodern Hiroshima (1946), Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried (1992), and David Foster Wallace's Infinite Jest (1996) work to highlight the intersections of trauma, postmodern literature, and esthetics; or, in Wallace's case, theoretical discussions of traumatic tropes as facilitated by the postmodern tradition. In drawing attention to this tripartite convergence, this article hopes to continue in the vein of scholarship that reaffirms the need for evermore research in the field of trauma studies as well as substantiate a claim of the heightened importance of postmodern literature in the 21st century—an epoch indelibly marked by trauma, as noted by Pollock. Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate esthetic parameters in the anterior maxillary region by comparing single‐piece zirconia versus titanium narrow‐diameter implants. Additionally, clinical, radiological and patient‐reported outcome measures (PROMs) were analyzed. Materials and Methods: Thirty implants (tissue level implant) were placed in 30 patients in the maxillary esthetic sector. Depending on randomization, a zirconia (test) or titanium implant (control) was placed. Esthetic, clinical, and radiological parameters, including the implant crown esthetic index (ICAI), pink esthetic score (PES), probing pocket depth, bleeding on probing, plaque index, and marginal bone levels, were evaluated at 12, 36 and 60 months after loading. Results: Sixty months after crown placement, no significant differences were found between groups. The ICAI values were 5.25 ± 4.21 and 4.50 ± 2.98 for the test and control groups, respectively. The corresponding PES values were 7.44 ± 1.93 and 7.43 ± 1.74 for the test and control groups, respectively. There were no significant intergroup differences for the rest of the parameters evaluated. Conclusion: It can be suggested that monotype zirconia implants may serve as a potential alternative to titanium implants in selected clinical scenarios. While the results demonstrated comparable esthetic, clinical, and radiological aspects for zirconia implants as compared to titanium implants after a 5‐year follow‐up period, further research with larger sample sizes and longer‐term follow‐up is recommended. Objective: This retrospective study aimed to establish a robust rating system for assessing post-operative outcomes in congenital aural atresia patients undergoing auricular reconstruction. The newly introduced EAR scale, a weighted grading system, not only considers anatomical landmarks but also factors such as ear alignment. In addition, the outer-ear cartilage scale and the visual analogue scale (VAS) were introduced. These scales were compared among themselves and against two established scales. Methods: Nine raters assessed 17 eligible patients who underwent auricular reconstruction between 2001 and 2020. Results: The study compared inter-rater agreement among scales, with the EAR scale proving the most reliable (Krippendorff's alpha coefficient, α = 0.45), outperforming existing measures. The outer-ear cartilage scale and the VAS exhibited lower inter-rater agreement, indicating inferiority in assessing aesthetic outcomes. Purpose: To determine whether immediate implant placement and loading renders different outcomes from delayed loading with respect to midfacial mucosal level in the maxillary esthetic area. Materials and Methods: A literature search was conducted in four electronic databases (PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane), identifying eligible clinical studies published prior to December 2021. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing immediate implant placement with or without immediate loading in the maxillary esthetic zone with a mean follow-up of at least 12 months were selected for qualitative analysis and meta-analysis. The Cochrane Risk of Bias tool was adopted to assess the quality of the evidence. The heterogeneity between the pooled literature was analyzed through the chi-square test (P < .05) and quantified by the I2 index. A mixed-effects model was applied if it appeared that there was noteworthy heterogeneity; otherwise, a random-effects model was chosen. For continuous outcomes, the estimate of relative effect was presented to display the standardized mean differences (SMDs) and 95% CIs. For dichotomous variables, the Mantel-Haenszel statistical method was applied with effect sizes expressed as risk ratios (RRs) and 95% CIs. This study is registered on PROSPERO with number CRD42017078611. Results: Out of 5,553 records, 8 RCTs were involved, providing data for 324 immediately placed implants (immediate implants subjected to immediate loading [IPIL]: 163; immediate implants subjected to delayed loading [IPDL]: 161) that had been in function within 12 to 60 months. Meta-analyses revealed significantly lower midfacial mucosal level changes for IPIL compared with IPDL, pointing to 0.48 mm (95% CI: -0.84 to -0.12; P = .01), as well as more significant papillary recession after IPDL (SMD -0.16; 95% CI: -0.31 to 0.00; P = .04). The differences regarding implant survival and marginal bone loss between the two loading groups showed no statistical significance. The result of metaanalyses revealed similar plaque score (SMD 0.03; 95% CI: -0.22 to 0.29; P = .79) and probing depth (SMD -0.09; 95% CI: -0.23 to 0.05; P = .21) for IPIL and IPDL. On the other hand, IPIL induced a trend toward more bleeding on probing (SMD 0.22; 95% CI: 0.01 to 0.42; P = .04) and less change in facial ridge dimension (SMD 0.94; 95% CI: -1.49 to --0.39; P < .01). Conclusion: After a follow-up ranging from 12 to 60 months, midfacial mucosa level change was 0.48 mm lower following IPIL compared with IPDL. Immediate implant placement and loading is conducive to the preservation of physiologic soft and hard tissue architecture, appearing to offer considerable benefits in the anterior zone. This study investigated the influence of social media on patients regarding aesthetic dental treatments according to sex, type of treatment, and time since their last treatment. A cross-sectional study was conducted using a web-based survey. Participants were students over 18 years of age who were social media users and had undergone aesthetic dental treatment. 504 responses were included. Data evaluation was made using Pearson chi-square test. The level of significance was set at p <.05. 29.37% of the respondents indicated that social media influenced their decision to have their aesthetic treatment. Regarding the influence of social media, no differences were observed between males and females, nor by type of aesthetic treatment. Participants who had undergone an aesthetic dental treatment within the last year were more influenced by social media than those who had undergone it more than two years ago. Posts from dental clinics or dentists were the type of content that most influenced participants. Social media can influence some patients' decision to undergo aesthetic dental treatment, thus dental practices and dentists should consider the increasing importance of social media in their daily practice. Background Abdominoplasty procedures continue to evolve because combining techniques such as suction-assisted lipectomy or direct subscarpal lipectomy have proven to be powerful adjuncts to achieve optimal aesthetic results. However, concern has been expressed about combining techniques simultaneously given the potential to damage the vascularity of the abdominoplasty flap. Objectives The aim of this study was to assess the safety and efficacy of simultaneous direct subscarpal lipectomy combined with liposuction in abdominoplasty patients. Methods A 4-year retrospective review of consecutive abdominoplasties (n = 200) performed by a single surgeon was conducted. Liposuction of the abdominal flap and flanks was performed in all patients. After raising the abdominoplasty flap, undermining was performed to just beyond the xyphoid, the lower rib margins superiorly, and the anterior axillary line laterally. Fat deep to Scarpa's fascia was then removed by direct tangential excision in all zones of the abdominal flap. Results The patients had a mean age of 42.19 years and BMI of 28.10 kg/m2; the mean follow-up time was 7 months. Seroma occurred in 13 patients (6.5%), superficial wound dehiscence treated with local wound care in 16 patients (8%), hypertrophic scarring in 16 patients (8%), partial umbilical necrosis in 1 patient (0.5%), and partial umbilical epidermolysis in 6 patients (3%). No patients experienced major or minor full-thickness tissue loss. No patients needed reoperation. Conclusions Simultaneous direct excision of subscarpal fat with liposuction of the abdomen and flanks does not appear to subject any zone of the abdominoplasty flap to increased risks of vascular compromise. Background Nanotextured implants, an innovation in implant technology, are designed to enhance tissue interaction, reduce inflammation, and mitigate complications of traditional implants. Objectives The aim of the study was to evaluate the aesthetic potential and safety profile of nanotextured breast implants in breast augmentation from a single-surgeon experience. Methods This prospective cohort study included 1000 patients who underwent breast augmentation with nanotextured implants. Aesthetic outcomes were assessed with direct measurements and BCCT.core software, focusing on breast projection, symmetry, and upper pole fullness. Patient satisfaction was measured with BREAST-Q and overall satisfaction surveys. Safety profiles were evaluated based on the incidence of complications such as infection, hematoma, capsular contracture, and implant rupture. Statistical analyses were conducted to assess the outcomes. Results The study found significant improvements in aesthetic outcomes, with 92.8% of cases achieving substantial aesthetic enhancements. Patient satisfaction was high, with 96.4% of patients reporting enhanced self-esteem and contentment. The safety profile was favorable, with a low incidence of complications (0.7% requiring revisional surgery) and no major complications reported. Long-term follow-up data indicated sustained aesthetic outcomes and a stable safety profile. Conclusions The synergistic quality of nanotextured implants in relation to the natural breast gland tissue is defined by a significantly wider range of aesthetic options. The findings of this study underscore the positive impact of nanotextured breast implants on enhancing the aesthetic potential of breast augmentation and their contribution to a low incidence of complications. Background Hyaluronic acid injections are increasingly administered for correction of infraorbital hollows (IOHs). Objectives The objective of this study was to examine the effectiveness (IOH correction) and safety of Restylane Eyelight hyaluronic acid (HAEYE) injections. Methods Patients with moderate/severe IOHs, assessed with the Galderma infraorbital hollows scale (GIHS), were randomized to HAEYE injections (by needle/cannula) (Day 1 + optional Month 1 touch-up) or no-treatment control. The primary endpoint was blinded evaluator–reported Month 3 response, defined as ≥1-point GIHS improvement from baseline (both sides, concurrently). Other endpoints examined investigator-reported aesthetic improvement on the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS), patient-reported satisfaction (FACE-Q satisfaction with outcome; satisfaction questionnaire), and adverse events. Results Overall, 333 patients were randomized. Month 3 GIHS responder rate was significantly higher for HA-EYE (87.4%) vs control (17.7%; P <.001), and comparable between HA-EYE-needle and HA-EYE-cannula groups (P =.967). HAEYE GAIS responder rate was 87.5-97.7% (Months 3-12). Mean FACE-Q Rasch-transformed scores were 64.3-73.5 (HAEYE) vs 14.1-16.2 (control) through Month 12. Patients reported looking younger (≥71%) and less tired (≥79%) with reduced undereye shadows (≥76%) and recovered within 3-5 hours posttreatment. Efficacy was maintained through Month 12 (63.5% GIHS responders) and through Month 18, after Month 12 retreatment (80.3% GIHS responders; 99.4% GAIS responders; FACE-Q scores 72.5-72.8). Forty patients (12.7%) reported typically mild adverse events (4.9% HAEYE-needle; 20.9% HAEYE-cannula). Conclusions HAEYE treatment was effective in correcting moderate/severe IOHs at the primary endpoint (Month 3). Efficacy was sustained through Month 12 after first treatment for 63.5% and through Month 18 for 80.3% (after 1 retreatment) with needle or cannula administration. Safety outcomes were reassuring. Background Despite increasing demand for breast capsular surgery to treat various benign and malignant implant-related pathologies, high-quality evidence elucidating complication profiles of capsulectomy and capsulotomy is lacking. Objectives The aim of this study was to provide the largest-scale analysis of associated outcomes and complications using the Tracking Operations and Outcomes for Plastic Surgeons (TOPS) database, and to investigate clinical scenarios that may subject patients to increased risks for complications, most notably extent of capsular surgery (complete vs partial) and index indication of implantation (aesthetic vs reconstructive). Methods An analysis of the TOPS database from 2008 to 2019 was performed. CPT codes were used to identify complete capsulectomy and partial capsulectomy/capsulotomy cases. Breast implant exchange procedures constituted procedural controls. Results In total, 7486 patients (10,703 breasts) undergoing capsulectomy or capsulotomy were assessed. Relative to controls, capsulectomy (4.40% vs 5.79%), but not capsulotomy (4.40% vs 4.50%), demonstrated higher overall complication rates. Both capsulectomies (0.83% vs 0.23%) and capsulotomies (0.56% vs 0.23%) also had greater rates of seroma relative to controls. Subgroup analyses demonstrated that reconstructive patients, relative to aesthetic patients, experienced greater overall complications (6.76% vs 4.34%), and increased risks for seroma (1.06% vs 0.47%), dehiscence (0.46% vs 0.14%), surgical site infections (1.03% vs 0.23%), and implant loss (0.52% vs 0.23%). A detailed synthesis of 30-day outcomes, including all patient- and breast-specific complications, for both capsulectomy and capsulotomy, stratified according to all potential confounders, is presented herein. Conclusions Surgeries on the breast capsule are safe overall, although complete capsulectomies and reconstructive patients are associated with significantly increased operative risks. Background Extending the duration of effect of botulinum toxins—by administering doses beyond those of the approved labels—has been an area of increasing interest in the field of aesthetics. Objectives The aim of this study was to investigate the safety and duration of effect of 40-unit (U) prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs (twice the approved dose and concentration) for the treatment of moderate-to-severe glabellar lines. Methods A total of 154 adult patients were randomized 1:1:1 to a single treatment of either 40 U prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs (PRA 40, 5 injections of 8 U/0.05 mL), or 20 U of either prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs (PRA 20) or onabotulinumtoxinA (ONA 20). Both 20-U controls were administered as 5 injections of 4 U/0.1 mL. Efficacy and safety were assessed on days 2, 7 (by telephone), 30, and every 30 days thereafter up to 365 days or until the patient had returned to baseline. The primary effectiveness endpoint was the duration of effect (estimated by Kaplan-Meier analysis), defined as the number of days from treatment day (baseline) to the day that glabellar line severity at maximum frown by investigator assessment returned to the baseline value. Results Patients had a mean age of 47 years (20-72 years); 69.5% had severe glabellar lines at baseline. Of the 36 adverse events, 32 (88.9%) were mild and 4 (11.1%) were moderate in severity; none were serious. The median durations of effect were estimated to be 183, 149, and 148 days for PRA 40–, PRA 20–, and ONA 20–treated patients, respectively. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the impact of soft tissue structure on the psychosocial effects of malocclusions in women and men. Material and Methods: The severity of malocclusion was determined in 84 individuals with a Class I skeletal pattern. The Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire was administered to determine the malocclusion perceptions of the patients. Arnett's soft tissue analysis was performed to determine the soft tissue structure. The difference between the sociodemographic factors and severity of malocclusion averages of men and women was statistically examined. Subsequently, the impact of Arnett's soft tissue analysis parameters on the Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire scores of each gender was evaluated. Results: No statistically significant association was observed between women and men related to the sociodemographic factors and the severity of malocclusions. The number of Arnett's soft tissue analysis parameters affecting the Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire scores was higher in men than women. Women were more psychologically affected by malocclusions, while men were affected by soft tissue structure changes, and women were affected by dental factors. Conclusion: Although the soft tissue structure did not affect the perception of malocclusions in women, women experienced a more severe psychological effect of malocclusion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Contemporary fixed orthodontic appliances are shifting from non‐customized pre‐adjusted appliances to custom‐designed and printed appliances with novel digital setup systems. We are one step closer to precision dentistry and orthodontics using personalized mechanics and custom appliances. However, despite the evidential enhancement and other improvements to fixed appliances, tooth movement is still limited to five degrees of freedom. Opening or closing spaces still requires manually placing elastomeric chains or coil springs. Aim: In this article, we aimed to demonstrate how advancements in CAD/CAM technology, reverse engineering, and digital customization are helping orthodontics constantly evolve, enabling treatment with enhanced esthetics and minimal compliance. The clinical system (InBrace®, Irvine, CA) described in this article uses a patient‐specific, digitally designed multiloop NITI wire that delivers friction‐free, light, and continuous forces and activates automatically whenever the malocclusion deviates from the digital setup. Conclusion: Through digital customization, InBrace allows for automated tooth movement in all six degrees of freedom, including space opening or closure, via programmed non‐sliding mechanics. Clinical Significance: Precision orthodontics and personalized treatment have been significant developments in orthodontics recently. Risks of esthetic complications have been reported following dental implant insertion; hence it was suggested that a customized healing abutment could improve the peri-implant tissue healing. Anatomically contoured healing abutments (also called customized healing abutments) help to contain and protect the slow – Resorbing bone grafts, resulting in bone and soft tissue volume augmentation. Even in healed sites, customized healing abutments have shown a favourable outcome as compared to standard healing abutments. This article describes a simple chairside fabrication of precisely contoured healing abutment which will eventually result in a natural contoured soft tissue enhancing the esthetics of the restoration. This study explores the effect of using dental brushes with or without metacrylate-based modeling resins on long-term color stability and surface topographies of resin-based composites. This study examined the effects of two variables: (1) the type of brush used (Art brush, Micro-brush, or Mylar strip) and (2) the application of a modeling resin (applied or not applied). The specimens were artificially aged through 10,000 cycles of thermocycling and subsequently immersed in coffee for 30 days. Measurements of color and surface roughness were taken at baseline and after the aging, using a non-contact profilometer for surface roughness and a spectrophotometer for color. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests and one-way ANOVA. Resin-based composites smoothed with dental brushes or micro brushes without modeling resins exhibited lower color change (ΔE) than other groups. Paired t-tests revealed significant differences in average surface roughness (Ra) and valley depth (Rv) for each surfacing technique before and after aging (p ⩽ 0.01). The root means square average of the profile heights (Rq) significantly increased in the control and micro-brush groups (p ⩽ 0.01). In conclusion, the use of brushes in resin-based composites placement does not increase the susceptibility to staining. Tessier number 10 cleft is one of the rarest facial clefts. Surgical treatment of this type of cleft is challenging due to the complexity of periorbital and temporal soft tissue deformities. A 23-year-old male patient presented with typical facial deformities of Tessier number 10 cleft. The surgical procedure involved using a free anterolateral thigh flap to reconstruct the eye socket, while the superficial temporal artery pedicle scalp flap was used to reconstruct the eyebrow deformity. The patient had no complications and 16 months after surgery, the patient had good aesthetic results. A hair-bearing scalp flap with a pedicle of the frontal branch of the superficial temporal artery combined with an anterolateral thigh-free flap can effectively resolve most soft tissue deformities of Tessier number 10 cleft and reconstruct the orbital socket in a single surgery. Dental fluorosis is a subsurface hypomineralization condition, characterized by yellow to dark brown stains, with or without enamel porosity and pitting. Due to aesthetic concerns, children with discolored anterior teeth often experience negative impacts on their psychological, emotional, and social development. Treatment options include porcelain laminates or veneers, direct resin restorations, and crowns. However, these methods are invasive and require significant enamel reduction, making them unsuitable for children due to their enlarged pulp chambers. Microabrasion is the least invasive and safest treatment for children with fluorosis. This technique involves using a combination of 37% phosphoric acid gel with extra fine grain pumice, 18% hydrochloric acid in pumice, or 6.6% and 10% hydrochloric acid with silica carbide particles. The mixture is applied with a slowly rotating rubber cup to the areas of discoloration or white opacities. An additional benefit of microabrasion is that it leaves the enamel surface highly polished, reducing the growth of cariogenic bacteria and increasing resistance to demineralization. This case report describes two instances of dental fluorosis treated with microabrasion using different acidic compounds in two pediatric patients, resulting in clinically acceptable and aesthetically pleasing outcomes. Background: Using a single‐blind, randomized, controlled, multicenter, practice‐based clinical trial, a volume‐stable collagen matrix (VCMX) was compared with connective tissue graft (CTG) for soft tissue augmentation around existing dental implants. Methods: Sixty patients (31 VCMX and 31 CTG) were included. The primary outcome was a soft tissue thickness change 3 mm below the gingival margin (GM). Secondary outcomes included clinical measures, such as keratinized tissue widths (KTw), probing pocket depths, and pink esthetic scores, and patient‐reported outcomes (PRO). Results: There were no significant differences between test and control patient demographics or clinical measures throughout the 1‐year study. VCMX "grafts" were by design larger than CTG, and surgery time was less (27% less, p = 0.0005). Three millimeters below the GM (primary endpoint), tissue thickness increase was noninferior for VCMX compared with CTG (0.93 ± 0.80 mm vs. 1.10 ± 0.51 mm, respectively), inferior (by 0.25 mm) at 1 mm, and noninferior at 5 mm. Postoperative pain was significantly less for VCMX patients (p < 0.0001), but all other PRO measures, including esthetics and satisfaction, improved similarly for both therapies. Conclusions: Given the inclusion criteria for this study, namely soft tissue augmentation around existing implants with some evidence of KTw and minimal recession, VCMX provided soft tissue thickness and volume increases similar (noninferior) to CTG. Clinical measures and PRO were similar between therapies—site sensitivity and esthetics improved similarly for both therapies—but surgery time and pain following surgery were significantly less for VCMX. Objectives: Evaluate the 5-year safety and efficacy of a narrow-diameter (3.0 mm) implant that was immediately provisionalized with a single crown in the maxillary lateral incisor or mandibular central or lateral incisor area. Materials and methods: An open, prospective, single-cohort, multicenter study was conducted, in which narrow-diameter implants were placed in fresh, healed extraction, or congenitally missing sites. All patients were required to meet strict criteria for immediate loading. The primary endpoints were marginal bone levels (MBL) and MBL changes (MBLC) from implant placement to 5-year follow-up. Secondary endpoints included cumulative 5-year survival and success rates, soft tissue health, and esthetic parameters. Results: A total of 91 implants were placed in 77 patients. The mean MBL remained stable from the 1-year (− 0.79 ± 0.73 mm, n = 75) to 5-year (− 0.74 ± 0.87 mm, n = 65) follow-up. A marginal bone gain of 0.11 ± 0.83 mm was observed from the 1-year to 5-year follow-up. The cumulative 5-year survival rate was 96.5%, and the cumulative 5-year success rate was 93%. The clinical parameters, including the modified plaque index, modified sulcus bleeding index, Jemt’s papilla index, and pink esthetic score improved throughout the 5-year study. Conclusions: The study demonstrated that narrow-diameter implants represent a safe and predictable treatment option for subjects suitable for immediate loading and with limited bone volume or limited inter-dental space. Clinical relevance: Narrow-diameter implants with immediate provisionalization can be considered for use to restore missing or damaged teeth with predictable functional and esthetic outcomes. Introduction: Division of the suspensory ligament of the penis has emerged as a popular surgical approach for penile lengthening, but accurate preoperative predictions of lengthening outcomes remain elusive. This study aimed to identify readily measurable anatomical parameters associated with post-ligamentolysis penile length gain, facilitating more reliable preoperative estimations. Methods: An experimental cross-sectional study was performed on 16 adult cadavers. Data collected before dissection included: age at death, ethnicity, height, length of the penis before dissection and width of the suspensory ligament of penis. Following the complete dissection of the suspensory ligament of penis, the depth of the pubic symphysis and the penile length after the procedure were measured. The absolute and relative length differences pre- and post-ligamentolysis were calculated. Correlation coefficients were used to study relations between these variables. Results: Penile length increased uniformly after complete division of the suspensory ligament (average gain: 26.38 mm, SD = 14.83 mm; range 4–60 mm). Pearson correlation revealed a significant negative correlation between pre-ligamentolysis penile length and post-ligamentolysis increase (r = − 0.601; p = 0.014), suggesting greater gains in individuals with shorter pre-ligamentolysis lengths. Age, ligament width, and pubic arch depth showed no significant correlations. Ethnicity did not impact post-ligamentolysis length increase (t = − 0.135; p = 0.894). Conclusions: This study highlights the potential to predict penile length gain post-ligamentolysis through measurable anatomical parameters. The ability to anticipate the outcome of this procedure could empower surgeons to provide informed counseling, potentially elevating patient satisfaction. Porcelain laminate veneers (PLV) offer a conservative aesthetic solution for interdental space closure. However, space is typically not distributed symmetrically, and the mesiodistal width of the restored teeth may increase unless multiple teeth are prepared for conventional PLV to maintain appropriate individual tooth proportion. Ceramic fragments can be suggested to close the space without modifying tooth size and dental proportion. This article presents two cases where interdental gaps were closed using lingually placed porcelain laminate (LPPL). All stages of the restorative procedures, including treatment planning, temporization, tooth preparation, and cementation of these delicate restorations, are detailed. Based on the results of these clinical reports, we regard the use of LPPL as a successful treatment option in selected cases, as evidenced by 2- and 6-year follow-ups. Research showed that art could improve organizations through a kind of importation of artistic skills related to creativity and uncertainty management. Three critics have emerged to contest such artistic interventions in organizations: technical criticism, highlighting practical difficulties of the process; representational criticism which relies on social representations of art; conceptual criticism, which shows unbridgeable differences between art and management. This article explores contemporary art as a potential answer to these critics. Contemporary art gives up esthetic matters and does not need any know-how: everyone can practice it (technical answer). This post-esthetic art appears rather as a professional method than transcendental inspiration (representational answer). The difficult transition between these representations contributes to a greater creativity (conceptual answer). Switching to the paradigm of contemporary art shows the importance of the translation process between art and management, which should be placed at the heart of arts-based methods. Aim of the Study: The aim of this study is to provide a comprehensive analysis of dental cementation techniques, focusing on the advantages and disadvantages of various approaches, as well as their impact on esthetics in restorative dentistry. Material and Methods: This study employed a systematic approach to gather relevant information, conducting extensive research using electronic databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science. Articles released from April onwards were targeted, focusing exclusively on English-language publications. A comprehensive set of keywords, including "dental cementation," "advantages," "disadvantages," and "esthetic outcomes," were utilized to ensure thorough coverage of the topic. Results: The analysis of dental cementation techniques revealed a range of advantages and disadvantages associated with different approaches. These findings provide valuable insights into the impact of various cementation methods on esthetic outcomes in restorative dentistry. Dental cements are engineered to secure restorations, appliances, and post-and-core systems in a stable and durable manner within the oral environment. Conventional glass ionomer and zinc phosphate cements are among the most widely used materials for luting metallic restorations and posts. In contrast, resin-based cements are favored for esthetic applications. The successful cementation of esthetic restorations largely depends on the proper treatment and silane application to the internal surface of the restoration. Conclusions: The findings of this study highlight the importance of carefully considering the advantages and disadvantages of dental cementation techniques in restorative dentistry. Understanding the impact of these methods on esthetic outcomes is crucial for optimizing patient care and treatment outcomes. Background: At present, combined provision of direct composite restorations and dental bleaching has become increasingly popular to meet the esthetic demands of patients. This study aimed to assess the effect of internal bleaching on microtensile bond strength of composite to freshly veneered enamel. Methods: In this in vitro experimental study, 50 sound extracted human premolars were randomly divided into five groups (n=10). All teeth received composite veneers. Two groups underwent no further intervention and were subjected to measurement of microtensile bond strength of composite to enamel 24 hr and one week after the veneering. The remaining three groups underwent internal bleaching. Group 3 underwent bleaching one month after the veneering, and microtensile bond strength was measured after 24 hr. In groups 4 and 5, bleaching was performed immediately after the veneering. Microtensile bond strength was measured after 24 hr in group 4 and after one month in group 5. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA. Results: All the groups were not significantly different regarding the mean bond strength (p=0.110), but they were significantly different in terms of the mode of failure (p=0.01) such that the mode of failure was mainly adhesive in the three bleached groups. The ideal way to describe minimal invasive dentistry is to treat caries using a biological strategy as opposed to a conventional (surgical) operational dentistry strategy. In cases when surgical dentistry is necessary, treatment is now done as conservatively as possible, causing the least amount of damage to the tooth's structure. This novel method of managing carious lesions shifts the focus from identifying the lesions as cavities (and a recurring cycle of restorations) to identifying the ecological imbalance in the mouth and bringing about biological changes in the biofilm. Minimally Invasive Dentistry (MI) aims to maximize the tooth's ability to recover by first halting the disease process and then restoring lost tooth structure and function. Dietary and lifestyle choices, particularly those involving the frequency of carbohydrates, water consumption, and smoking, have a significant impact on the pathogenicity and ecology of biofilms. Chairside tools for measuring plaque and saliva enable risk to be evaluated and patient compliance to be tracked. Materials that release physiologically accessible calcium, phosphate, and fluoride ions (CPP-ACP and CPP-ACFP) may improve saliva's remineralizing qualities. The use of biocides may also change the pathogenic qualities of plaque. By using these MI therapy methods, early lesions may be repaired, and patient comprehension and compliance may be increased. Objective: Cleft lip and/or palate (CL/P) can have long-lasting effects on the appearance, function, and psychosocial wellbeing of patients. The CLEFT-Q questionnaire is a patient-reported outcomes instrument specifically designed to assess the health-related quality of life of patients with CL/P. The aim of this study was to produce and linguistically validate a Finnish version of the CLEFT-Q questionnaire. Design: The CLEFT-Q questionnaire was translated into Finnish following guidelines of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research. Pilot testing with cognitive debriefing interviews was conducted on patients of the target age range of the questionnaire, 8–29, and with various cleft types. Results: The CLEFT-Q questionnaire translated readily into Finnish. A review of the backward translation led to two words being changed. Thirteen patients – ten females and three males – with a median age of 14 years, participated in the cognitive debriefing interviews. The interviews led to further nine word changes. The pilot study data suggested that the performance of the Finnish version of the instrument is in line with the original CLEFT-Q questionnaire. Conclusions: The Finnish version of CLEFT-Q produced here is linguistically valid and ready for use in the evaluation of the health-related quality of life of patients with CL/P. When consumers shop in luxury boutiques, high-end shopping malls, and even online, they increasingly encounter luxury products alongside immersive art displays. Exploring this novel phenomenon with both field studies and lab experiments, the current research shows that experiencing art reduces consumer desire for luxury goods. Three boundary conditions have been identified. The effect does not materialize in contexts in which the work of art is not experienced as art per se , such as when the work of art appears as decoration on the product or packaging or is processed analytically rather than naturally, and when luxury goods are not seen as status goods. We propose that experiencing art induces a mental state of self-transcendence, which undermines consumers' status-seeking motive and consequently decreases their desire for luxury goods. Objective: The current study was designed to clinically compare and evaluate subepithelial connective tissue graft (SCTG) and advanced platelet-rich fibrin (A-PRF) membrane-based root coverage in the treatment of gingival recession type 1 (RT1). Method and materials: The current study involved 17 patients with bilateral gingival recession (RT1). Thirty-four sites were randomly allocated to test (A-PRF) and control (SCTG) sites and all the procedures were performed by a single operator. A single blinded observer evaluated the test and control sites at baseline, 3 months, and 6 months. The clinical parameters such as recession depth, recession width, width of keratinized gingiva, clinical attachment level, and percentage of root coverage were recorded. P < .05 was considered statistically significant. Results: The mean recession depth at baseline for control and test groups was 3.06 ± 0.56 mm and 2.35 ± 0.49 mm, respectively (P < .001). At the end of the study period, the mean recession depth was 0.53 ± 0.62 mm in the control group and 1.12 ± 0.49 mm in the test group (P < .05). No complications were associated with both the groups. The mean percentage of root coverage was 84.31 ± 17.89% in the control group and 51.96 ± 15.45% in the test group (P < .001). Conclusion: In conclusion, the study results suggest that both SCTG and A-PRF can be used in treating gingival recessions. This case report exhibits a heavy smoker female patient with a localized stage III periodontitis who has been under the smoking cessation program during the pre-surgical period, followed by a strict maintenance program for the past twelve years, after being treated with guided tissue regeneration techniques and restored with zirconia prosthetic crowns. A 50-year-old, heavy smoker (> 40 cigarettes per day), systemically healthy female patient presented complaining of mobility and pain in the upper right central incisor, which was temporarily splinted to the left central incisor using resin composite. After clinical and radiographic examination, significant damage of the attachment apparatus, deep periodontal lesions extending the middle portion of the root, and severe infrabony defect were noted. Following the initial hygienic phase, a guided tissue regeneration surgery using xenograft bone substitute covered by a resorbable collagen membrane was performed. After six months of healing, four zirconia crowns were cemented on the central and lateral incisors based on patient esthetic compliance. During the 12-year follow-up period, neither residual pockets nor gingival recession were observed, and perfect marginal bone stability, and esthetic and functional results were noted. This case shows the predictability of a conservative surgical technique, the guided tissue regeneration, based on appropriate treatment planning and a strict maintenance program. It also demonstrates the importance of at least a 6-month healing period after such surgeries, allowing complete tissue maturation and a re-establishment of the supra osseous gingival tissues in order to locate the prosthetic margins without interfering with the soft tissues integrity.
