Background: COVID19 is a pandemic that has affected millions around the world since March 2020. While many patients recovered completely with mild illness, many patients succumbed to various organ morbidities. This heterogeneity in the clinical presentation of COVID19 infection has posed a challenge to clinicians around the world. It is therefore crucial to identify specific organ-related morbidity for effective treatment and better patient outcomes. We have carried out serum-based proteomic experiments to identify protein biomarkers that can flag organ dysfunctions in COVID19 patients. Methods: COVID19 patients were screened and tested at various hospitals across New Delhi, India. 114 serum samples from these patients, with and without organ morbidities were collected and annotated based on clinical presentation and treatment history. Of these, 29 samples comprising of heart, lung, kidney, gastrointestinal, liver, and neurological morbidities were considered for the discovery phase of the experiment. Proteins were isolated, quantified, trypsin digested, and the peptides were subjected to liquid chromatography assisted tandem mass spectrometry analysis. Data analysis was carried out using Proteome Discoverer software. Fold change analysis was carried out on MetaboAnalyst. KEGG, Reactome, and Wiki Pathway analysis of differentially expressed proteins were carried out using the STRING database. Potential biomarker candidates for various organ morbidities were validated using ELISA. Results: 254 unique proteins were identified from all the samples with a subset of 12–31 differentially expressed proteins in each of the clinical phenotypes. These proteins establish complement and coagulation cascade pathways in the pathogenesis of the organ morbidities. Validation experiments along with their diagnostic parameters confirm Secreted Protein Acidic and Rich in Cysteine, Cystatin C, and Catalase as potential biomarker candidates that can flag cardiovascular disease, renal disease, and respiratory disease, respectively. Conclusions: Label free serum proteomics shows differential protein expression in COVID19 patients with morbidity as compared to those without morbidity. Purpose: Outbreak of SARS-CoV2 and the COVID-19 pandemic had posed a threat to the healthcare system. The world had witnessed the failure of the healthcare system in the diagnosis, surveillance, and development of therapeutics effective against COVID-19. Hence, research emphasis has been given to technological inventions in developing robust and effective tools to fight against respiratory viral outbreaks, including SARS-CoV2. Methods: The scientific literature was searched and retrieved from PubMed, PubMed Central, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), and Scielo databases. The scientific literature was screened and selected based on recent studies in the area of nanotechnology based inventions and applications in developing diagnostics, surveillance tools, PPE kits, therapeutics, and vaccines. Results: Based on the scientific literature, there are enormous developments in designing robust diagnostics, surveillance tools, therapeutics, and vaccines. These findings show an increasing demand for nanotechnology-based inventions to tackle zoonotic spillover. Nanotechnology remains a growing area as interdisciplinary science and technology- enable a variety of inventions used in the COVID-19 pandemic. PPE design is a classic example where nanotechnology-driven materials are extensively used. Masks and other fabrics were also developed using nanotechnology-based materials. Conclusion: The study provides insights into nanotechnology based inventions in the fight against respiratory viral pathogens, including SARS-CoV2, and associated diseases. Machine Learning is recent emerging technique in prediction of various health related issues in medical system. It is very essential to predict the COVID-19 virus before it spreads and affects an entire community. Machine Learning is being used to detect the presence of COVID-19 virus as early as possible by analyzing patient's health condition and collecting data such as gender, age, Body Mass Index (BMI), asthma symptoms, wheezing, dyspnea, respiratory failure, cough, blood sugar level etc., with this information used eighteen machine learning algorithms such as ELM, Logistic Regression, SGD, KNN, SVM, QDA, LDA, XGBoost etc., to analyze the data and predict the presence of COVID-19 virus. Table and Charts are plotted with the help of the results acquired from the machine learning algorithm. Listening is essential to student learning. But how can instructors build practices of listening into their courses? This article makes the case for adopting a listening-centered approach to university instruction to subvert the dominant "transmission model" of education. It also provides an example of how such an approach can be implemented in practice. Specifically, I present the "plague narrative," a reflective writing assignment modeled after Thucydides' account of the plague of Athens in 430 BCE. The plague narrative gives instructors the opportunity to listen to students' experiences and to learn about their needs and situations. The exercise also offers students a relatively "low stakes" opportunity to engage in political theorizing and critique. Instructors, if properly focused on listening, can use this assignment to better understand their students while helping them make sense of contemporary political life. I conclude by considering how this assignment can disrupt the forces that might push a student to rely on generative AI tools and instead encourage them to use their own critical thinking and writing skills. (1) Background: Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been recognized that a considerable proportion of critically ill patients may die of this disease. The current study aims to assess the overall 1-year outcomes within the UMFST COVID-19 Unit, providing valuable insights into the efficacy of specialized care facilities in managing severe cases of COVID-19. (2) Methods: This is a retrospective monocentric observational study including 294 patients confirmed to have SARS-CoV-2 infection. Demographic data and clinical and paraclinical parameters were assessed. Survival probabilities were estimated using Kaplan–Meier curves. (3) Results: Overall, the 1-year mortality was 89.4%. All deaths occurred in-hospital, with two patients dying after 28 days. Diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney failure, cerebrovascular disease, and atrial fibrillation were more prevalent in deceased patients. Thirty percent of patients needed endotracheal intubation during the first 24 h. The incidence of hospital-acquired pneumonia was higher among deceased patients. The SOFA score was significantly different between deceased vs. survivors. The survival analysis showed that the use of noradrenaline increased the likelihood of surviving COVID-19. Introduction: This study evaluated the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on temporal trends in mental health and addiction--related inpatient hospitalization rates among youth (aged 10--17 years) in Canadian provinces and territories (excluding Quebec) from 1 April 2018 to 5 March 2022. Methods: We conducted an interrupted time series analysis across three periods: T0 (pre-pandemic: 1 April 2018 to 15 March 2020); T1 (early pandemic: 15 March 2020 to 5 July 2020); and T2 (later pandemic: 6 July 2020 to 5 March 2022). Results: Pre-pandemic mental health and addiction--related hospitalization rates had significant regional variability, with weekly rates from 6.27 to 85.59 events per 100 000 persons in Manitoba and the territories combined, respectively. During T1, the national (excluding Quebec) weekly hospitalization rate decreased from a pre-pandemic level of 12.82 (95% CI: 12.14 to 13.50) to 5.11 (95% CI: 3.80 to 6.41) events per 100 000 persons. There was no statistically significant change in the mental health and addiction--related hospitalization rate across provinces and territories in T2 compared to T0. However, there was a significant increase in the rate of self-harm--related hospitalizations among females Canada-wide and in most provinces during this period. Conclusion: Although several Canadian studies have reported increases in mental health and addiction--related outpatient and emergency department visits among youth during the COVID-19 pandemic, this did not correspond to an increase in the inpatient hospital burden, with the notable exception of self-harm among young females. Background: Several factors may be associated with the severity of COVID-19. Lifestyle, social relations, and socio-economic status can also influence how external stressors, including health crises, are perceived. However, limited research has addressed their role as risk factors in the severity of COVID-19 in both hospitalized and non-hospitalized patients. Aims: The present study was conducted with the aim of In the investigation of the role of lifestyle, social relations and socio-economic status of the family in the severity of Covid-19. Methods: This cross-sectional (analytical) research included all individuals aged 18 years and older in Kerman city who had experienced COVID-19 between March 2020 and April 2021. The statistical sample, selected through stratified random sampling, comprised 180 hospitalized patients and 220 non-hospitalized patients out of a total of 146,000 patients. Data were collected using lifestyle questionnaires (Laali, 2013), quality of relationships (Pierce, 1991), and demographic questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using the logistic regression method with SPSS26 software. Results: Logistic regression revealed that lifestyle, social relations, and socio-economic status significantly contribute to the severity of COVID-19 infection in both hospitalized and nonhospitalized adults. The likelihood of hospitalization is higher in COVID-19 patients with an inappropriate lifestyle, low socio-economic status, and weak social relations (p> 0.05). Conclusion: Recognizing the role of these factors in the severity of COVID-19 enhances officials' understanding of their impact and strengthens preparedness for responding to potential future outbreaks or other infectious epidemics. Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID19) can cause gastrointestinal complications as well as respiratory tract disease. Coagulation abnormalities and thrombosis frequently occur in COVID19, especially in cases with severe clinical outcome. The relationship between gastrointestinal perforation and coagulopathy due to COVID19 remains unclear. Case presentation: A 49-year-old female received Chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) therapy for an early recurrence of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) that was refractory to chemotherapy. She was diagnosed with cytokine release syndrome (CRS) because of a fever and oxygen desaturation, and administered tocilizumab. Forty days after completing CAR-T therapy, she was infected with COVID19 and transferred to our hospital. Her general condition worsened and she developed COVID19 pneumonia, and then steroid pulse therapy was started. While her respiratory condition improved, she experienced pain in the anal region and computed tomography (CT) revealed a rectal perforation. An emergency surgery was undertaken, and the lower rectum wall was found to be completely necrotic. Removal of the necrotic part of the rectum tissue, and drainage and lavage of necrotic tissue in the pelvic cavity were performed. The remaining rectum was resected with partial sigmoidectomy, but we could not make the anal stump closed. In addition, an end colostomy in the sigmoid colon was performed. Histopathological findings showed thromboses in the rectal mesentery veins. After the first surgery, the pelvic abscess cavity persisted and her high-grade fever continued. Reoperation was laparoscopically performed, and she underwent a resection of anal canal with residual necrotic rectal and mesorectal tissue, and a drainage of the pelvic abscess. After the reoperation, her general condition improved and CT showed that the abscess cavity had significantly improved. Conclusions: Gastrointestinal perforation, especially rectal necrosis due to coagulopathy caused by severe COVID19 infection, is a rare but life-threatening complication. Physicians should have a high degree of clinical suspicion for timely diagnosis and management, and surgical intervention is necessary in cases of rectal necrosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to identify herding biases and assess the inefficiency of Ethereum using an inefficiency index (MLM). Additionally, it investigates the nonlinear dynamical properties of Ethereum by estimating the MFDFA, aiming to deduce the impact of COVID-19 on Ethereum's performance. The paper also captures abnormal changes resulting from COVID-19-related events and assesses their influence on the Ethereum market response. The empirical results show that Ethereum was multifractal before the pandemic and became less fractal in the period following the outbreak using Generalized Hurst Exponent (GHE) estimation. Based on the MLM measure of efficiency, we found Ethereum to be more efficient in the first phase of the pandemic than before it, and as in the Hausdorff topology, the pandemic reduced herd bias. The event study analysis took into account specific events related to the pandemic and showed that each led to significant abnormal returns in the Ethereum market. The results reported are used to empirically establish differences in the value of Ethereum before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. The results are useful in a general sense for traders, investors, and policy makers because they provide new information about market trading opportunities and social responses. During and subsequent to a natural disaster, there is an expectation that certain elements of society will continue to operate with a degree of normalcy. For example, it is expected that emergency medical services will continue to function and remain reliable for the community served. Expectations such as these are based on the presumed reliability of government and the assumption that those responsible for the relevant infrastructure will have made plans to ensure it remains functional and taken steps to mitigate known weaknesses. The COVID-19 pandemic provides a case in point. Specifically, data captured during the pandemic are now the subject of ongoing review and analysis, and the findings from such studies are being used to inform planning and preparedness for the next public health disaster. This particular study was conducted in response to circumstantial evidence indicating that frontline workers in the healthcare profession may share some of the same ambivalence towards transmission mitigation as seen in the general population when confronted with new and emerging communicable diseases. This is a concern, as when medical personnel are either unable or unwilling to take reasonable steps to protect themselves and their patients, it undermines the readiness of the essential service. To explore this situation in greater depth, the study examines the real-time responses from a sample of frontline personnel interviewed during the pandemic. Early in the SARS-CoV2 pandemic, in this journal, Hou et al. (BMC Med 18:216, 2020) interpreted public genotype data, run through functional prediction tools, as suggesting that members of particular human populations carry potentially COVID-risk-increasing variants in genes ACE2 and TMPRSS2 far more often than do members of other populations. Beyond resting on predictions rather than clinical outcomes, and focusing on variants too rare to typify population members even jointly, their claim mistook a well known artifact (that large samples reveal more of a population's variants than do small samples) as if showing real and congruent population differences for the two genes, rather than lopsided population sampling in their shared source data. We explain that artifact, and contrast it with empirical findings, now ample, that other loci shape personal COVID risks far more significantly than do ACE2 and TMPRSS2—and that variation in ACE2 and TMPRSS2 per se unlikely exacerbates any net population disparity in the effects of such more risk-informative loci. Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome caused by a coronavirus is a recent viral infection. There is no scientific evidence or clinical trials to indicate that possible therapies have demonstrated results in suspected or confirmed patients. This work aims to perform a virtual screening of 1430 ligands through molecular docking and to evaluate the possible inhibitory capacity of these drugs about the Mpro protease of Covid-19. The selected drugs were registered with the FDA and available in the virtual drug library, widely used by the population. The simulation was performed using the MolAiCalD algorithm, with a Lamarckian genetic model (GA) combined with energy estimation based on rigid and flexible conformation grids. In addition, molecular dynamics studies were also performed to verify the stability of the receptor-ligand complexes formed through analyses of RMSD, RMSF, H–Bond, SASA, and MMGBSA. Compared to the binding energy of the synthetic redocking coupling (−6.8 kcal/mol/RMSD of 1.34 Å), which was considerably higher, it was then decided to analyze the parameters of only three ligands: ergotamine (−9.9 kcal/mol/RMSD of 2.0 Å), dihydroergotamine (−9.8 kcal/mol/RMSD of 1.46 Å) and olysio (−9.5 kcal/mol/RMSD of 1.5 Å). It can be stated that ergotamine showed the best interactions with the Mpro protease of Covid-19 in the in silico study, showing itself as a promising candidate for treating Covid-19. Summary: Immune responses to primary COVID‐19 vaccination were investigated in 58 patients with follicular lymphoma (FL) as part of the PETReA trial of frontline therapy (EudraCT 2016–004010‐10). COVID‐19 vaccines (BNT162b2 or ChAdOx1) were administered before, during or after cytoreductive treatment comprising rituximab (depletes B cells) and either bendamustine (depletes CD4+ T cells) or cyclophosphamide‐based chemotherapy. Blood samples obtained after vaccine doses 1 and 2 (V1, V2) were analysed for antibodies and T cells reactive to the SARS‐CoV‐2 spike protein using the Abbott Architect and interferon‐gamma ELISpot assays respectively. Compared to 149 healthy controls, patients with FL exhibited lower antibody but preserved T‐cell responses. Within the FL cohort, multivariable analysis identified low pre‐treatment serum IgA levels and V2 administration during induction or maintenance treatment as independent determinants of lower antibody and higher T‐cell responses, and bendamustine and high/intermediate FLIPI‐2 score as additional determinants of a lower antibody response. Several clinical scenarios were identified where dichotomous immune responses were estimated with >95% confidence based on combinations of predictive variables. In conclusion, the immunogenicity of COVID‐19 vaccines in FL patients is influenced by multiple disease‐ and treatment‐related factors, among which B‐cell depletion showed differential effects on antibody and T‐cell responses. To understand and approach the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic, machine learning offers fundamental tools. This study presents the use of machine learning techniques for projecting COVID-19 infections and deaths in Mexico. The research has three main objectives: first, to identify which function adjusts the best to the infected population growth in Mexico; second, to determine the feature importance of climate and mobility; third, to compare the results of a traditional time series statistical model with a modern approach in machine learning. The motivation for this work is to support health care providers in their preparation and planning. The methods compared are linear, polynomial, and generalized logistic regression models to describe the growth of COVID-19 incidents in Mexico. Additionally, machine learning and time series techniques are used to identify feature importance and perform forecasting for daily cases and fatalities. The study uses the publicly available data sets from the John Hopkins University of Medicine in conjunction with the mobility rates obtained from Google's Mobility Reports and climate variables acquired from the Weather Online API. The results suggest that the logistic growth model fits best the pandemic's behavior, that there is enough correlation of climate and mobility variables with the disease numbers, and that the Long short-term memory network can be exploited for predicting daily cases. Despite the efficacy of COVID-19 vaccines, patients with hematologic malignancy may still be fatal from COVID19. Therefore, we prospectively performed the analysis of administration of tixagevimab/cilgavimab in the real-world. In August 2022, 94 patients under active chemotherapy for lymphoma, multiple myeloma, or acute leukemia received a single dose AZD7442/Evusheld (two consecutive intramuscular injections of tixagevimab and cilgavimab, 300 mg each). Quantitative measurement of anti-SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (anti-S) and viral nucleocapsid (anti-N) titers were conducted before administration of tixagevimab/cilgavimab and at 1, 3, and 6 months after administration. Twenty-five patients (26.6%) had previously confirmed COVID-19 infection. Fifty-eight patients (61.7%) had previously received COVID-19 vaccinations, with a median of two doses (range, 1–5). The median anti-S Ab level increased from baseline (997.05 AU/mL) to 1 month (20,967.25 AU/mL), then decreased at 3 months (13,145.0 AU/mL), and 6 months (7123.0 AU/mL) (p < 0.001). There was no significant safety issue with tixagevimab/cilgavimab. With a median follow-up time of 6 months, thirteen patients (13.8%) had documented SARS-Cov-2 infection. A 20.2% rate of anti-N positivity was observed six months after the administration of tixagevimab/cilgavimab. The results of this study support the potential role of tixagevimab/cilgavimab for the prevention of symptomatic and severe COVID-19. Trial registration: KCT0007617; August 16, 2022. Introduction: Several effective vaccines for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) have been developed and implemented in the population. However, the current production capacity falls short of meeting global demand. Therefore, it is crucial to further develop novel vaccine platforms that can bridge the distribution gap. AVX/COVID-12 is a vector-based vaccine that utilizes the Newcastle Disease virus (NDV) to present the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein to the immune system. Methods: This study aims to analyze the antigenicity of the vaccine candidate by examining antibody binding and T-cell activation in individuals infected with SARS-CoV-2 or variants of concern (VOCs), as well as in healthy volunteers who received coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccinations. Results: Our findings indicate that the vaccine effectively binds antibodies and activates T-cells in individuals who received 2 or 3 doses of BNT162b2 or AZ/ChAdOx-1-S vaccines. Furthermore, the stimulation of T-cells from patients and vaccine recipients with AVX/COVID-12 resulted in their proliferation and secretion of interferon-gamma (IFN-g) in both CD4+ and CD8+ T-cells. Discussion: The AVX/COVID-12 vectored vaccine candidate demonstrates the ability to stimulate robust cellular responses and is recognized by antibodies primed by the spike protein present in SARS-CoV-2 viruses that infected patients, as well as in the mRNA BNT162b2 and AZ/ChAdOx-1-S vaccines. These results support the inclusion of the AVX/COVID-12 vaccine as a booster in vaccination programs aimed at addressing COVID-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 and its VOCs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective: Diabetic patients with COVID-19 are at the higher risk of clinical complications and intensive care unit)ICU(admission. There is limited information available on the risk factors of mortality in diabetic patients with COVID-19 admitted to the ICUs. The aim of this study was identifying the mortality risk factors in diabetic patients with COVID-19 who are admitted to the ICU. Materials and Methods: In this study, we conducted a descriptive-analytical observational analysis on 391 patients admitted to the ICU for 18 months. We assessed the demographic, clinical, pharmaceutical, laboratory and imaging data of diabetic patients and statistically analyzed them to identify mortality risk factors. Results: The study found 156 (39.89%) diabetic out of 391 patients. The group of diabetic patients had significantly higher rates of endotracheal intubation (P< 0.001), mortality (P< 0.001), and complications during hospitalization due to COVID-19, including secondary bacterial infections (P = 0.005), venous thrombosis (P = 0.008), and gastrointestinal bleeding (P = 0.011), compared to the nondiabetic patient. Conclusion: Patients with diabetes who also have COVID-19 tend to experience more severe clinical outcomes and a higher mortality rate when admitted to the intensive care unit. The likelihood of mortality in these patients is closely associated with factors such as stroke occurrence, oxygenation levels, and the presence of secondary infections at the time of admission. Aims: To assess the extent of Coronavirus-related disruption to health and social care treatment and social interactions among people with lived or living experience of substance use in Scotland, and explore potential reasons for variations in disruption. Design: Cross sectional mixed methods interview, incorporating a social network 'egonet interview' approach asking about whether participants had interactions with a range of substance use, health, social care or third sector organisations, or informal social interactions. Setting: Five Alcohol and Drug Partnership Areas in Scotland. Participants: 57 (42% women) participants were involved in the study, on average 42 years old. Measurements: Five-point Likert scale reporting whether interactions with a range of services and people had gotten much better, better, no different (or no change), worse, or much worse since COVID19 and lockdown. Ratings were nested within participants (Individuals provided multiple ratings) and some ratings were also nested within treatment service (services received multiple ratings). The nested structure was accounted for using cross classified ordinal logistic multilevel models. Findings: While the overall average suggested only a slight negative change in interactions (mean rating 2.93), there were substantial variations according to type of interaction, and between individuals. Reported change was more often negative for mental health services (Adjusted OR = 0.93 95% CI 0.17,0.90), and positive for pharmacies (3.03 95% CI 1.36, 5.93). The models found between-participant variation of around 10%, and negligible between-service variation of around 1% in ratings. Ratings didn't vary by individual age or gender but there was variation between areas. Conclusions: Substance use treatment service adaptations due to COVID19 lockdown led to both positive and negative service user experiences. The COVID-19 pandemic has afflicted people from all sectors of life, and families have faced unprecedented challenges. In this study, researchers explore how intergenerational disparities impact the self-efficacy coping and resilience of family members during a crisis. With family members of different ages forced to live together, the pandemic has tested the resilience and self-efficacy coping of each individual. Using a descriptive-correlational research design, the researchers examined the relationships between resilience behavior, sense of coherence, and self-efficacy in family members from different life-stage cohorts. Our findings show that resilience behavior is associated with Sense of Coherence, however, self-efficacy coping shows no variation by generation. Further analysis revealed unique strengths among Generation X and Boomers, who demonstrated greater resilience and a greater sense of coherence compared to other cohorts. In the context of salutogenesis, our work emphasizes the importance of intergenerational differences in fostering family mental health in times of crisis. Our research illuminates family coping mechanisms and attitudes at different life stages, making communities more resilient. This study can help build a more cohesive society where intergenerational support networks thrive and mental health is a priority for all generations. COVID-19, caused by SARS-CoV-2, affects neuronal cells, causing several symptoms such as memory loss, anosmia and brain inflammation. Curcuminoids (Me08 e Me23) and curcumin (CUR) are derived from Curcuma Longa extract (EXT). Many therapeutic actions have been linked to these compounds, including antiviral action. Given the severe implications of COVID-19, especially within the central nervous system, our study aims to shed light on the therapeutic potential of curcuminoids against SARS-CoV-2 infection, particularly in neuronal cells. Here, we investigated the effects of CUR, EXT, Me08 and Me23 in human neuroblastoma SH-SY5Y. We observed that Me23 significantly decreased the expression of plasma membrane-associated transmembrane protease serine 2 (TMPRSS2) and TMPRSS11D, consequently mitigating the elevated ROS levels induced by SARS-CoV-2. Furthermore, Me23 exhibited antioxidative properties by increasing NRF2 gene expression and restoring NQO1 activity following SARS-CoV-2 infection. Both Me08 and Me23 effectively reduced SARS-CoV-2 replication in SH-SY5Y cells overexpressing ACE2 (SH-ACE2). Additionally, all of these compounds demonstrated the ability to decrease proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-17, while Me08 specifically reduced INF-γ levels. Our findings suggest that curcuminoid Me23 could serve as a potential agent for mitigating the impact of COVID-19, particularly within the context of central nervous system involvement. Novel infectious pathogens have the potential to seriously threaten both international security and health. Infectious disease surveillance continues to be based on monitoring the location, population, and possible mode of transmission of these pathogens using a standardized case definition. The aim of this research Detect anti-inflammatory cytokine levels and Provide realistic guidelines for cytokine level determination for female fertility with COVID 19 infection diagnosis. Blood samples were obtained from a total of 180 volunteers who volunteered between April 2022 and November 2022 at the Fatima Al-Zahraa and Kamal al-Samarrai hospitals in Baghdad. Each patient and control participants got 6 mL of blood via vein puncture with disposable syringes. the blood samples were stored in clear test tubes and allowed to clot at room temperature before being separated by centrifugation; to extract serum, all serum samples were instantly frozen at (-20C) until used and estimated of cytokine agents by ELISA. Our results revealed statistical significance, as evidenced by p < .001. These results indicate that there are substantial differences in Interleukin-35 (IL35) levels among the various categories of Fertility and COVID_19 Moreover, the interaction effect between Fertility and COVID_19 was also found to be significant, with p = .008. This suggests that there are meaningful variations in IL35 levels for each combination of Fertility and COVID_19, as influenced by their interaction while analysis yielded highly significant results, with p < .001, indicating the presence of substantial differences in Interleukin-38 (IL38) levels among the different categories of Fertility and COVID_19. However, it's noteworthy that the interaction effect between Fertility and COVID_19 was not statistically significant, with p = .658 This suggests that there were no meaningful variations in IL38 levels for each combination of Fertility and COVID_19, as indicated by the interaction term. Conclusion of research showed statistically significant differences in IL 35 were observed, and it can be used to control the cytokine storm in COVID-19 patients as well as an immunological treatment. COVID-19 is reported as a very infectious which is increasing in rapid speed at present time. In this pandemic World health organization (WHO) is monitoring the situation and providing the preventive measures coordinating the treatment strategies to fight against Covid-19 through out the world. The only way to stop the further spread of this is to detect the disease early. Some works have been started to investigate covid19 using Deep learning algorithm over chestX-ray (CXR) images. In our work we have processed one CNN model which can process CXR images along with the metadata(non imaging data) available with the dataset to classify Covid 19. Resnet 50, Dense net 121, Mobile Net,VGG-16, Inception-V3 and one proposed Convolution Neural Network have been modified to accept the metadata along with CXR image. Some state of the art Deep learning models have been run to classify the covid 19 on the same data set and compared with our best model. Experiments have been done in two phases. In the 1st phase we used CNN models on CXR image only and in the 2nd phase we ran all modified CNN models over the same CXR images with their matadata. The experimental results shows that the output of 2nd phase out performs the output of 1st phase.After that we compared our best model (Proposed CNN) with other state of art models. The early detection of COVID-19 is essential for decision-makers to develop effective containment and treatment plans. Traditionally, researchers interpret computer tomography (CT) scans or X-ray images in order to diagnose this disease. This study aims to demonstrate that deep learning models can be applied to three common medical imaging modes: X-rays, ultrasounds, and CT scans. This study employs and enhances four convolutional neural networks for coronavirus detection, including DenseNet121, ResNet101V2, NASNetMobile, and MobileNetV2. In this study, two main experiments were carried out. In the first experiment, a model was developed by combining imagery data to detect this virus. In order to determine which model performed the best, separate models were trained using different datasets in the second experiment. Because there were only so many photos accessible, data augmentation techniques were used to enhance the amount artificially. The results indicate that the proposed models effectively accomplished the task of classifying COVID-19. The accuracy rates achieved by the combined model, utilizing DenseNet121, ResNet101V2, NASNetMobile, and MobileNetV2, were 88.21%, 93.02%, and 88.89% respectively. When using the combined imaging dataset, the CNN model employing ResNet101v2 exhibited superior accuracy compared to NASNetMobile, DenseNet121, and MobileNetV2 models. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study explores the alignment of the noble Islamic Sharia's emphasis on preserving human life and safety with international conventions and national legislation, particularly in the context of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Grounded in the principles of Islamic Sharia, which prioritizes the preservation of the soul, the study employs a qualitative analysis of the UAE's health policies and legislative measures against the pandemic, guided by the World Health Organization's recommendations and supported by a review of the UAE Constitution and global COVID-19 statistics. Background: The infection that caused the pneumonia, the virus known as severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is the source of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is the source of the global pandemic. The pneumonia cases began in Wuhan, China in December 2019 and had no apparent reason. Essential inflammatory mediators Chemokines are necessary for an immune response to eliminate pathogens. Objective: The current study aimed to estimate hematological changes with immunogenic markers CD177, GNLY, and CXCR4 gene expression in COVID-19 patients, and compare these parameters among patients and healthy individuals. Materials and Methods: the study was conducted at Al-Yarmouk Teaching Hospital and Medical Teaching Laboratories. Finally, to detect the immune markers level in samples of patients, by RT-PCR. Results: the results revealed the gene expression results in patients with COVID-19 means Ct difference of CD177 (24.70) fold more than (10.5) elevated when compared with the mean of Ct control healthy group is (28.21) fold of gene expression is 1.00 of CD177 when our study showed increased gene expression the mean of GNLY Ct receptor was reached to (28.70 ng/L) with fold more than 15.0 in COVID-19 patients, while mean Ct in healthy control was (32.61 ng/L) with fold 1.00, the current study found mean CT of CXCR4 gene expression (31.2) with fold (1.1) compared with healthy control CT(31.3) fold of gene expression was (1.0). Conclusion: It was concluded that COVID-19 caused significant changes in many immunological parameters and found the titer of immune markers was higher in infection compared with control. The pandemic caused by the novel coronavirus COVID‐19 has impact the economies of countries across the world. In a short period of time, researchers have begun to analyse the effect of the pandemic on global stock markets. Although the most known measurements of COVID‐19 are the number of new cases and deaths, there are more robust indicators. In particular, the effective reproductive number is one of the most important indicators to analyse the pandemic which indicates the degree to which the spread is under control. In this paper, we assess the impact that the Effective Reproductive Number (Rt) has on 26 countries around the world (32 stock market indexes) comparing the performance of various forms of Generalized AutoRegressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity models. The results demonstrate that of the 32 stock markets analysed, 37.5% had a negative effect with respect to Rt and only in 12.5% of the cases was the effect of the variation of Rt positive. This implies that in more than a third of the stock markets analysed as the pandemic progressed uncontrolled the result was a decrease in the value of the market index. The 11 of the 26 countries analysed had a negative and significant effect (Brazil, Germany, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan, and United States). Findings suggest that the Effective Reproductive Number volatility had a significant impact on 10 of the 26 countries analysed (38.5%) (Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, India, Italy, Mexico, Russia, Singapore and United Kingdom). Background: The World Health Organization stresses the need for tailored COVID-19 models of vaccination to meet the needs of diverse populations and ultimately reach high rates of vaccination. However, little evidence exists on how COVID-19 models of vaccination operated in the novel context of the pandemic, how vulnerable populations, such as refugees, experience COVID-19 vaccination systems in high-income countries, and what lessons may be learned from vaccination efforts with vulnerable populations. To address this gap, this study explored COVID-19 vaccine delivery models available to newcomer refugees and immigrants, and refugee experiences across different COVID-19 vaccine delivery models in Calgary, Canada, and surrounding area in 2021 and 2022, to understand the barriers, strengths, and strategies of models to support access to COVID-19 vaccination for newcomer refugees and immigrants. Methods: Researchers conducted structured interviews with Government Assisted Refugees (n = 39), and semi-structured interviews with Privately Sponsored Refugees (n = 6), private refugee sponsors (n = 3), and stakeholders involved in vaccination systems (n = 13) in 2022. Thematic analysis was conducted to draw out themes related to barriers, strengths, and strategies of vaccine delivery models and the intersections with patient experiences. Results: Newcomer refugee and immigrant focused vaccination models and strategies were explored. They demonstrated how partnerships between organizations, multi-pronged approaches, and culturally responsive services were crucial to navigate ongoing and emergent factors, such as vaccine hesitancy, mandates, and other determinants of under-vaccination. Many vaccination models presented through interviews were not specific to refugees and included immigrants, temporary residents, ethnocultural community members, and other vulnerable populations in their design. Conclusions: Increasing COVID-19 vaccine uptake for newcomer refugees and immigrants, is complex and requires trust, ongoing information provision, and local partnerships to address ongoing and emerging factors. Three key policy implications were drawn. First, findings demonstrated the need for flexible funding to offer outreach, translation, cultural interpretation, and to meet the basic needs of patients prior to engaging in vaccinations. Second, the research showed that embedding culturally responsive strategies within services ensures community needs are met. The COVID-19 pandemic led to changes in shopping behaviour, resulting in higher than expected growth in e-commerce. All this influenced the expansion of freight transport in urban areas and had a significant impact on last-mile deliveries by carriers, whose demand increased significantly. The objective of this study was to analyse last-mile deliveries during the COVID-19 pandemic from the perspective of e-commerce freight carriers. This was done using a hybrid simulation model, i.e. discrete event simulation (DES) and agent-based simulation (ABS). An increase in the number of deliveries increased the number of kilometres travelled, fuel costs, CO2 emissions, number of trips and vehicle utilisation. Comparative scenarios with delivery lockers are simulated, demonstrating improved operation for all simulated variables. While scientific knowledge acquisition is a vital premise for citizens' self-protection against COVID-19, the impact of anti-intellectualism on scientific information seeking has yet to be fully examined. Based on a cross-sectional survey, this study investigated the association of distrust and stigmatization forms of antiintellectualism (i.e. AID vs. AIS) with the Planned Risk Information Seeking Model (PRISM) in predicting Chinese netizens' information seeking about SARS-CoV-2 variants. The statistical results show that AIS is positively associated with seeking-related subjective norms and perceived control, indicating that it may boost a sense of self-empowerment. However, AIS is negatively related to affective risk response and the knowledge-sufficiency threshold, suggesting its possible link to overconfidence and trust in government. AID was found to be negatively associated with seeking-related attitudes and perceived control. The global surge in academic misconduct during the COVID-19 pandemic, exacerbated by remote teaching and online assessment, necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the multidimensional aspects and stakeholders' perspectives associated with this issue. This paper addresses the prevalent use of answer-providing sites and other types of academic misconduct, underscoring the challenge of detecting all or most of the student misconduct. Exploring factors such as faculty inexperience in remote teaching and assessment, the paper advocates for proactive measures to preserve integrity in education. Emphasizing the need for a culture of integrity beyond traditional classrooms, the paper reviews existing models, then details steps to create a framework using the International Labour Organization (ILO)'s TREE training method. It presents the IEPAR framework (Inspiration, Education, Pedagogical considerations, Assessment design, Response and Restorative practice), and assesses its effectiveness. Incorporating faculty feedback, the paper concludes with evidence-based findings, positioning the IEPAR framework as a robust approach for addressing academic misconduct and fostering a culture of academic integrity in higher education through responsible training of all stakeholders. Background: The relationship between parenting style and physical activity of children has been confirmed in previous studies. Studies show that strict parents may impose more restrictions on their children's physical activity. Aims: The aim of this study was to avoid physical activity and parental stress during the COVID-19 pandemic: from the perspective of strict parents. Methods: This research is descriptive and cross-sectional and correlational in terms of purpose, which was done using structural equation modeling method. The statistical population of this study is all parents of 7-12 years old children in Kerman city who are studying in elementary school in 2020. In this study, 271 parents of elementary school students responded to the research questionnaires. Stress, depression and anxiety questionnaires (Antony and et al., 1998) were used to collect the data. Data were collected using Smart PLS.3 software. Results: The results of the analysis showed that knowledge directly and indirectly through parental stress and severity rate on physical activity abstinence of children. The results showed that awareness through parental stress explained 40% of variance of abstinence from physical activity. Also, awareness through deterioration rate explains 30% of variance of abstinence from physical activity. Stress and perceived risk can significantly affect authoritarian parents’ decision-making process. Parents with greater awareness and knowledge about COVID-19 reported more avoidance behavior. Conclusion: Based on these results, it can be concluded that parental awareness through perceived deterioration and parental stress can affect the abstinence of physical activity in children. Background: Cancer is a risk factor for developing severe COVID19. Additionally, SARS-CoV2 has a special tropism for renal cells and complications like thrombosis or cytokine storm could be enhanced by standard treatments in kidney cancer (i.e., antiangiogenics or immunotherapy). Thus, understanding the impact of COVID19 in patients with this tumor is key for their correct management. Methods: We designed a retrospective case–control study comparing the outcome of three groups of advanced kidney cancer patients on systemic treatment: cohort A (developed COVID19 while on antiangiogenics), cohort B (developed COVID19 while on immunotherapy) and cohort C (non-infected). Matching factors were age, gender, and treatment. Results: 95 patients were recruited in 16 centers in Spain from September 2020 to May 2021. Finally, 85 were deemed as eligible (23 cohort A, 21 cohort B, 41 cohort C). Patients with COVID required more dose interruptions (25 vs. six) and hospitalizations (10 vs. none) than those without COVID (both p = 0.001). No difference between cohorts A and B was observed regarding hospitalization or length of stay. No ICU admission was registered and one patient in cohort B died due to COVID19. Regarding cancer evolution, three patients in cohort A presented progressive disease after COVID19 compared to two in cohort B. One case in cohort B, initially deemed as stable disease, achieved a partial response after COVID19. Conclusions: Kidney cancer patients who developed COVID19 while on systemic therapy required more treatment interruptions and hospitalizations than those non-infected. However, no significant impact on cancer outcome was observed. Also, no difference was seen between cases on antiangiogenics or immunotherapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Sweden had the most liberal lockdown policies in Europe during the Covid-19 pandemic. Relying on individual responsibility and behavioural nudges, their effectiveness was questioned from the perspective of others who responded with legal restrictions on behaviour. In this study, using mobile phone data, we therefore examine daily spatial mobilities in Stockholm to understand how they changed during the pandemic from their pre-pandemic baseline given this background. The analysis demonstrates: that mobilities did indeed change but with some variations according to (a) the residential social composition of places and (b) their locations within the city; that the changes were long lasting; and that the average fall in spatial mobility across the whole was not caused by everybody moving less but instead by more people joining the group of those who stayed close to home. It showed, furthermore, that there were seasonal differences in spatial behaviour as well as those associated with major religious or national festivals. The analysis indicates the value of mobile phone data for spatially fine-grained mobility research but also shows its weaknesses, namely the lack of personal information on important covariates such as age, gender, and education. This editorial discusses the role of vaccine-induced innate immunity in viral infections, with a focus on the Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine and its unique innate immune response. It also mentions the potential heterologous effects of COVID-19 vaccines and the need for further research on adaptive immune responses. The article concludes by discussing the humoral immune response to SARS-CoV-2 infection and the persistence of antibody responses after vaccination. A randomized‐controlled‐trial study (N = 219) tested two pre‐registered hypotheses that mobile‐phone app‐based mindfulness training improves wellbeing and increases self‐transcendent emotions: gratitude, self‐compassion, and awe. Latent change score modeling with a robust maximum likelihood estimator was used to test how those changes are associated in the training versus the waiting‐list group. The training increased wellbeing and all self‐transcendent emotions regardless of interindividual variance in the changes across time. Changes in all self‐transcendent emotions were positively associated with changes in wellbeing. The strength of those associations was comparable in the waiting‐list group and the training group. More studies are needed to test whether the effects of mindfulness practice on wellbeing are driven by increases in self‐transcendent emotions. The study was conducted over 6 weeks during the COVID19 pandemic. The objective of this study was to analyze temporal changes in social needs (SN), comparing those who received routine annual in-person care to those receiving SN screenings through a combination of tele-social care and in-person care biannually. Our prospective cohort study used a convenience sample of patients from primary care practices. Baseline data were collected from April 2019 to March 2020. The intervention group (n = 336) received SN screening and referral telephone outreach from June 2020 to August 2021. The control group (n = 2890) was screened, in person, during routine visits at baseline and summer 2021. We used a repeated-measures logistic regression with general estimating equations to assess incremental change in individual SN for the intervention group. Food, housing, legal and benefit needs increased and peaked at the beginning of the pandemic and decreased after interventions (P < 0.001). There was a 32% decrease in the odds of food insecurity for those in the intervention group compared to the control group (adjusted OR 0.668, 95% confidence interval 0.444–1.004, P = 0.052), and a 75% decrease in the odds of housing insecurity (adjusted OR 0.247, 95% confidence interval 0.150–0.505, P < 0.001). During COVID-19, there was an increase in SN followed by a decrease after interventions were offered. We aimed to assess the serum levels of sTLR4 and sCD14 as negative regulators of Toll like receptor signaling and their association with laboratory markers and clinical severity in covid 19 patients. Ninety-eight patients with COVID-19 (70 severe and 28 non-severe) were enrolled in the study. Serum sCD14 andsTLR4were determined by ELISA. A significant increase in serum sTLR4 and sCD14 levels was detected in severe compared to non severe COVID19 patients.Receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis revealed significant diagnostic potential of serum sTLR4 and sCD14 in covid19 patients.We conclude that Serum sTLR4 and sCD14 may be promising clinical severity markers for COVID19 patients. Background: This study aims to assess the sustained immunological response to the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in patients with autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic diseases (AIRD) undergoing different treatment regimens. Methods: We conducted a prospective observational study involving 157 AIRD patients without prior COVID-19 infection. Treatment regimens included non-treatment or glucocorticoid-only (not-treated/GCs), non-biological drugs, biological therapy, and JAK inhibitors. All participants completed the two-dose vaccine schedule, and 110 of them received an additional booster dose. Serum samples were collected approximately 3–6 months after the second and third vaccine doses to measure antibodies against the Spike protein (antiS-AB) and neutralizing antibodies (nAB) targeting six SARS-CoV-2 variants. Results: Following the third dose, all patients exhibited a significant increase in antiS-AB (FC = 15, p < 0.0001). Patients under biological therapy had lower titres compared to the non-biological (66% decrease, p = 0.038) and the not-treated/GCs group (62% decrease, p = 0.0132), with the latter persisting after the booster dose (86% decrease, p = 0.0027). GC use was associated with lower antiS-AB levels in the biological group (87% decrease, p = 0.0124), although not statistically significant after confounders adjustment. nABs showed the highest positivity rates for the wild-type strain before (50%) and after the booster dose (93%), while the Omicron variant exhibited the lowest rates (11% and 55%, respectively). All variants demonstrated similar positivity patterns and good concordance with antiS-AB (AUCs from 0.896 to 0.997). Conclusions: The SARS-CoV-2 vaccine booster strategy effectively elicited a sustained antibody immune response in AIRD patients. However, patients under biological therapies exhibited a reduced response to the booster dose, particularly when combined with GCs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
