Background Multiple studies and meta-analyses have claimed that breastfeeding is inversely correlated with maternal and childhood cancers. These results could either be causal or confounded by shared risk factors. By conducting an umbrella review, we aimed to consolidate the relationship between breastfeeding and maternal and childhood cancers. Methods We searched PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, Elsevier ScienceDirect, and Cochrane Library databases from inception to December 2022. Two reviewers independently extracted the data and assessed the quality of the studies using standardised forms. We considered two types of breastfeeding comparisons ("ever" vs "never" breastfeeding; and "longest" vs "shortest" duration). We estimated the pooled risk and 95% confidence interval (CI) for each meta-analysis. Results We included seventeen meta-analyses with 55 comparisons. There was an inverse correlation between breastfeeding and childhood leukaemia (pooled risk = 0.90, 95% CI = 0.81-0.99), neuroblastoma (pooled risk = 0.81, 95% CI = 0.71-0.93), maternal ovarian cancer (pooled risk = 0.76, CI = 0.71-0.81), breast cancer (pooled risk = 0.85, 95% CI = 0.82-0.88), and oesophageal cancer (pooled risk = 0.67, 95% CI = 0.54-0.81) for "ever" vs "never" breastfeeding; and with childhood leukaemia (pooled risk = 0.94, 95% CI = 0.89-0.98), and maternal ovarian cancer (pooled risk = 0.84, 95% CI = 0.78-0.90) and breast cancer (pooled risk = 0.92, 95% CI = 0.89-0.96) for "longest" vs "shortest" breastfeeding duration. Conclusions We found evidence that breastfeeding may reduce the risk of maternal breast cancer, ovarian cancers, and childhood leukaemia, suggesting positive implications for influencing women's decision in breastfeeding. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a major global health problem. The rate of infection with Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) is more than one-third of the total world population. The effects of T. gondii infection on the risk of diabetic complications and comorbidities are unclear. This study aims to determine the relationship between T. gondii infection and complications of T2DM in the Han Chinese population. We collected 1580 blood samples from T2DM patients and measured the levels of specific IgG antibodies against T. gondii in the sera of these patients using an ELISA assay. A logistic regression analysis was performed to estimate the effect of T. gondii infection on the complications of T2DM, while adjusting for age, gender, and triglyceride level (TG). We applied the multifactor dimensionality reduction (MDR) method to detect the interactions between T. gondii infections, demographic indexes and biochemical indicators among the different complications. Gender (the odds ratio (OR) = 0.63, 95%CI =0.45–0.89, P = 0.008) and TG level (OR = 0.64, 95%CI =0.45–0.89, P = 0.009) were influencing factors in T. gondii infections. T2DM patients who were infected with T. gondii had a 2.34 times risk of developing hypertension than those patients without T. gondii infection (OR = 2.34, 95%CI = 1.12–4.88, P = 0.024). The multiplicative interaction analysis and the additive interaction analysis did not reveal any evidence of interactive effects on diabetic complications and comorbidities. Dengue is an arthropod-borne infectious disease caused by dengue virus (DENV) infection and transmitted by Aedesmosquitoes. Approximately 50-100million people are infected with DENV each year, resulting in a high economic burden on both governments and individuals. Here, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to summarize information regarding the epidemiology, clinical characteristics, and serotype distribution and risk factors for global dengue outbreaks occurring from 1990 to 2015. We searched the PubMed, Embase and Web of Science databases through December 2016 using the term "dengue outbreak." In total, 3,853 studies were identified, of which 243 studies describing 262 dengue outbreaks met our inclusion criteria. The majority of outbreak-associated dengue cases were reported in the Western Pacific Region, particularly after the year 2010; these cases were primarily identified in China, Singapore andMalaysia. The pooledmean age of dengue-infected individuals was 30.1 years; of the included patients, 54.5% were male, 23.2% had DHF, 62.0% had secondary infections, and 1.3% died. The mean age of dengue patients reported after 2010 was older than that of patients reported before 2010 (34.0 vs. 27.2 years); however, the proportions of patients who had DHF, had secondary infections and died significantly decreased after 2010. Fever, malaise, headache, and asthenia were the most frequently reported clinical symptoms and signs among dengue patients. In addition, among the identified clinical symptoms and signs, positive tourniquet test (OR = 4.86), ascites (OR = 13.91) and shock (OR = 308.09) were identified as the best predictors of dengue infection, DHF and mortality, respectively (both P < 0.05). The main risk factors for dengue infection, DHF andmortality were living with uncovered water container (OR = 1.65), suffering from hypotension (OR = 6.18) and suffering from diabetes mellitus (OR = 2.53), respectively (all P < 0.05). The serotype distribution varied with time and across WHO regions. Overall, co-infections were reported in 47.7%of the evaluated outbreaks, and the highest pooled mortality rate (2.0%) was identified in DENV-2 dominated outbreaks.
