Two new cycloartane triterpenoid glycosides, soulieoside V (1) and 15-deacetylbeesioside O (2), together with one known compound, beesioside J (3), were isolated from the ethanolic extract of the rhizomes of Actaea vaginata. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and by comparison with data reported in the literature. Nano-magnetite with superparamagnetism could be coated by some organic compounds or by nano Au or Pt via surface modifications with multi-step reactions for the applications of isolating histidine-tagged (His-tagged) proteins. Introducing active sites of binding histidine onto the surface of nano-magnetite was the ultimate task. However, multi-step treatments might result in departure of the coatings from the surface of the nano-magnetite, which led to loss of active sites. In this work, we reported a convenient and efficient way of treating nano-magnetites and applied them in isolating His-tagged proteins. Carboxylates were introduced on the surface of home-made nano-magnetite directly via ultrasonic mixing with sodium bitartrate rather than complicated surface modifications, which was proved by thermogravimetric analyses. Ni2+ was, therefore, caught by the carboxylates of the coating via the coordinate interaction, demonstrated by X-ray photoelectron spectra. The coated magnetic nanoparticles with the bonded Ni2+ were successfully employed to selectively bind and separate recombinant His-tagged proteins directly from the mixture of Escherichia coli cell lysate, and showed wonderful affinity for His-tagged proteins with the saturated adsorption amount being 556 mg g−1. The objective of this study was to determine concentration and bioaccumulation of organochlorine pesticides and heavy metals in edible fish from Wuhan, China, in order to assess health risk to the human via fish consumption. Two edible fish species ( Aristichthys nobilis and Hypophthalmichthys molitrix) were collected and analyzed for 11 organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and eight heavy metals (HMs). Concentrations of ∑HCHs, ∑DDTs, and ∑OCPs in fish samples were in the range of 0.37-111.20, not detected (nd)-123.61, and 2.04-189.04 ng g (wet weight), respectively. Bioaccumulation factors (BAFs) of OCPs in bighead carp ( A. nobilis) were higher than those in silver carp ( H. molitrix). Concentrations of ∑HMs in bighead carp and silver carp were 352.48 and 345.20 mg kg (dw), respectively. Daily exposure of OCPs and HMs for consumers was estimated by comparing estimated daily intake (EDI) with different criteria. The results revealed that the EDIs in our study were all lower than those criteria. Target hazard quotient (THQ) and risk ratio ( R) were used to evaluate non-carcinogenic and carcinogenic risks, respectively. As regard to non-carcinogenic effects of the contaminants, hazard quotients (THQ) of OCPs and HMs were both lower than 1.0, implying negligible non-carcinogenic risk via fish consumption in study area. Nevertheless, in view of carcinogenic effects of the contaminants, the total value of risk ratio ( R) of OCPs was lower than the threshold of tolerable risk while the total value of risk ratio ( R) of HMs was higher than the threshold of tolerable risk due to the high carcinogenic risk ratios of As and Cr, indicating high carcinogenic risks via fish consumption. Fifteen polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heavy metals (Cr, Ni, As, Cd, Pb, and Hg) were quantified in 19 surface water sites of the Three Gorges Reservoir, China. The total concentrations of 15 PAHs and six heavy metals in the 19 sample sites ranged from 130.8 ng L−1to 227.5 ng L−1and 3.2 μg L−1to 6.0 μg L−1, respectively. The mean concentration of As was the highest among the six heavy metals (2.1 ± 0.3 μg L−1), followed by Cr (0.5 ± 0.3 μg L−1), Ni (1.3 ± 0.1 μg L−1), Cd (0.2 ± 0.01 μg L−1), Pb (0.07 ± 0.08 μ g L−1) and Hg (0.05 ± 0.08 μg L−1). The isomer ratio results suggest that PAHs at most sites were mainly from petroleum combustion, while coal and biomass combustion was the main source at sites 1, 2, 6, 7, 9, 14, and 17. Based on principal component analysis, the main source of heavy metals was anthropogenic activities and weathering of bedrocks. Depending on characteristic of RQ(NCs)≥ 1 and RQ(MPCs)< 1, BaA showed higher potential ecological risk than other PAHs, therefore, all sampling site needed to be paid much more attention, included some remedial actions. Meanwhile, after assessing human health risk of heavy metal, it was unlikely to experience adverse health effects, even exposing through more pathways and six kinds of heavy metals simultaneously.
