Endometritis is a frequent postpartum disease of dairy cows and inflicts considerable distress on the animals and costs to the dairy industry. This study evaluated the clinical efficacy of Chinese and Western Medicine combination treatments for dairy cow endometritis to provide a reference for the prevention and treatment of these infections. This analysis provides new information for veterinary medical research. We used the keywords ‘Chinese and Western Medicine, Traditional and Western Medicine, Chinese herbs, Traditional Chinese Medicine Traditional Medicine, Chinese, Zhong Yi Xue, Chinese Traditional Medicine, Chinese Medicine, Traditional, Endometritis, Metritis and Cow to assess relevant literature sources collected in CNKI, Wanfang, Vepsa, China Patent Information Network, PubMed, Web of Science and other domestic and foreign databases. We utilized Cochrane system instructions to perform a meta-analysis using RevMan 5. 3 and Stata 16.0 software. We identified 13 randomized clinical trials (RCT) involving 847 dairy cows including cows 435 treated with a combination of Chinese and Western Medicine and 412 cows treated with the Western Medicine approach. The effectiveness for the combination therapy was better than that of the control (antibiotic only) where the relative risk was 1.19 with 95% CI (1.12, 1.26) and Z= 5.96, P<0.01. We found no significant heterogeneity between these studies (I2=0<50%, P= 0.50<0.1) and publication bias was absent as investigated through funnel plots and the Egger regression model (P=0.197>0.05). These results indicated that although the Chinese herbal preparations differed between studies (n= 13), when coupled with Western antibiotic treatments the animals recovered faster than did the control Western antibiotic treatments. Patients with advanced breast cancer are difficult to treat and have poor prognosis. At present, the commonly used methods to monitor the disease progression of breast cancer are imaging examinations such as breast ultrasound, mammography and peripheral blood tumor markers such as carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) and carbohydrate antigen 15-3 (CA15-3). However, none of them can detect tumor progression at an early stage. Serum immunoinflammation-related protein complexes (IIRPCs) showed potential to indicate cancer progression. Therefore, we attempted to monitor the level of IIRPCs in peripheral blood of patients with metastatic breast cancer and compare it with patients' treatment and disease progression, and here we performed case reports of two of them. Background: There are no universally acknowledged standardized treatment strategies for blood blister-like aneurysms (BBAs). This study compared the prognosis of patients with BBA who underwent craniotomy microsurgery vs. endovascular intervention. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients with BBA treated between September 2009 and August 2020 at Sichuan Provincial People's Hospital affiliated to the Sichuan Academy of Medical Science. Patients were divided into the microsurgery and endovascular groups. The preoperative Hunt-Hess grade and modified Fisher grade were collected. The intraoperative and postoperative complications (including intraoperative aneurysm rupture and hemorrhage, postoperative cerebral hemorrhage, and BBA recurrence) were recorded. Results: Seventy-two patients were included: 28 and 44 in the microsurgery and endovascular groups, respectively. Only the preoperative Fisher grade was different between the two groups (P=0.041). The proportion of patients with good outcomes was lower in the microsurgery group (28.6%) than in the endovascular group (72.7%), and the mortality rate was higher in the microsurgery group (32.1%) than in the endovascular group (11.4%) (P < 0.05). After adjustment for the modified Fisher grade, the multivariable analysis showed that compared with craniotomy microsurgery, an endovascular intervention was associated with the prognosis of patients with BBA (OR = 0.128, 95%CI: 0.040-0.415, P < 0.001). The rate of complications (intraoperative hemorrhage, cerebral infarction, and recurrence) was higher in themicrosurgery group than in the endovascular group. The gut microbial composition of the Luchuan (LC) piglet, one of China's native breeds, has rarely been studied, especially when compared to other breeds. This study developed a porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) infection model in LC and Largewhite (LW) piglets, and analyzed the patterns and differences of intestinal microbial communities and metabolites in piglets of these two breeds after infection. The diarrhea score, survival time, and distribution of viral antigens in the intestine of piglets infected with PEDV differed among breeds, with the jejunal immunohistochemistry score of LW piglets being significantly higher than that of LC piglets (P < 0.001). The results of 16S rRNA sequencing showed differences in microbial diversity and community composition in the intestine of piglets with different breeds between PEDV infection piglets and the healthy controls. There were differences in the species and number of dominant phyla and dominant genera in the same intestinal segment. The relative abundance of Shigella in the jejunum of LC piglets after PEDV infection was significantly lower than that of LW piglets (P < 0.05). The key microorganisms differed in the microbiota were Streptococcus alactolyticus, Roseburia faecis, Lactobacillus iners, Streptococcus equi, and Lactobacillus mucosae (P < 0.05). The non-targeted metabolite analysis revealed that intestinal metabolites showed great differences among the different breeds related to infection. Spearman correlation analysis was conducted to examine any links between the microbiota and metabolites. The metabolites in the intestine of different breeds related to infection were mainly involved in arginine biosynthesis, synaptic vesicle cycle, nicotinic acid and nicotinamide metabolism and mTOR signaling pathway, with significantly positive or negative correlations (P < 0.05) between the various microorganisms. This study provides a theoretical foundation for investigating the application of core microorganisms in the gut of piglets of different breeds in the digestive tracts of those infected with PEDV, and helps to tackle the antimicrobial resistance problem further. Spaceflight is associated with enhanced inactivity, resulting in muscular and cardiovascular deconditioning. Although physical exercise is commonly used as a countermeasure, separate applications of running and resistive exercise modalities have never been directly compared during long-term bedrest. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of two exercise countermeasure programs, running and resistance training, applied separately, for counteracting cardiovascular deconditioning induced by 90- day head-down bedrest (HDBR). Maximal oxygen uptake (...O2max), orthostatic tolerance, continuous ECG and blood pressure (BP), body composition, and leg circumferences were measured in the control group (CON: n = 8), running exercise group (RUN: n = 7), and resistive exercise group (RES: n = 7). After HDBR, the decrease in ...O2max was prevented by RUN countermeasure and limited by RES countermeasure (-26% in CON p < 0.05, -15% in RES p < 0.05, and -4% in RUN ns). Subjects demonstrated surprisingly modest orthostatic tolerance decrease for different groups, including controls. Lean mass loss was limited by RES and RUN protocols (-10% in CON vs. -5% to 6% in RES and RUN). Both countermeasures prevented the loss in thigh circumference (-7% in CON p < 0.05, -2% in RES ns, and -0.6% in RUN ns) and limited loss in calf circumference (-10% in CON vs. -7% in RES vs. -5% in RUN). Day-night variations in systolic BP were preserved during HDBR. Decrease in ...O2max positively correlated with decrease in thigh (r = 0.54 and p = 0.009) and calf (r = 0.52 and p = 0.012) circumferences. During this 90-day strict HDBR, running exercise successfully preserved ...O2max, and resistance exercise limited its decline. Despite many studies on host or viral gene expression, how the cellular proteome responds to internal or external cues during the infection process remains unclear. In this study, we used a Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) replication model and performed proteomic analyses to understand how HBV evades innate immunity as a function of cell cycle progression. Specifically, we performed proteomic analyses of HBV-replicating cells in G1/S and G2/M phases, as a function of IFN-α treatment. We identified that the conserved LSm (Like-Sm1-8) proteins were differentially regulated in HBV replicating cells treated with IFN-α. Specifically, in G2/M phase, IFN-α increased protein level of LSm1, the unique subunit of cytoplasmic LSm1-7 complex involved in mRNA decay. By contrast, IFN-α decreased LSm8, the unique subunit of nuclear LSm2-8 complex, a chaperone of U6 spliceosomal RNA, suggesting the cytoplasmic LSm1-7 complex is antiviral, whereas the nuclear LSm2-8 complex is pro-viral. In HBV replication and infection models, siRNAmediated knockdown of LSm1 increased all viral RNAs. Conversely, LSm8 knockdown reduced viral RNA levels, dependent on N6-adenosine methylation (m6A) of the epsilon stem-loop at the 5' end of pre-Core/pregenomic (preC/pg) RNA. Methylated RNA immunoprecipitation (MeRIP) assays demonstrated reduced viral RNA methylation by LSm8 knockdown, dependent on the 5' m6A modification, suggesting the LSm2-8 complex has a role in mediating this modification. Interestingly, splicing inhibitor Cp028 acting upstream of the LSm2-8 complex suppressed viral RNA levels without reducing the 5' m6A modification. We estimated the symptomatic, PCR-confirmed secondary attack rate (SAR) for 2,382 close contacts of 476 symptomatic persons with coronavirus disease in Yichang, Hubei Province, China, identified during January 23-February 25, 2020. The SAR among all close contacts was 6.5%; among close contacts who lived with an index case-patient, the SAR was 10.8%; among close-contact spouses of index case-patients, the SAR was 15.9%. The SAR varied by close contact age, from 3.0% for those <18 years of age to 12.5% for those >60 years of age. Multilevel logistic regression showed that factors significantly associated with increased SAR were living together, being a spouse, and being >60 years of age. Multilevel regression did not support SAR differing significantly by whether the most recent contact occurred before or after the index case-patient's onset of illness (p = 0.66). This study describes a simple method for the large‐scale isolation of pure Toxoplasma gondii tachyzoites and bradyzoites. T. gondii tachyzoites were obtained from infected human foreskin fibroblasts (HFFs) and peritoneal exudates of mice, while tissue cysts containing bradyzoites were collected from chronically infected mice. Harvested cells and brain tissues were incubated in Hanks balanced salt solution (HBSS), containing 0.25% trypsin and 0.5% taurodeoxycholic acid (TDC) for 5 min. Subsequent washes in phosphate buffered saline (PBS) were conducted, and the cell viability of the preparations was good, as determined by flow cytometry and ability to reinfect HFF cells and propagate in mice. The purification procedure allowed for a rapid preparation of pure T. gondii tachyzoites and bradyzoites in sufficient quantity that can be used for downstream procedures. The objectives of this study were to measure culling frequency and analysis of reasons for boar culling in commercial boar studs. Data were obtained from nine commercial boar studs included 2342 culled boars in Southern China during July 2013 to June 2016. Descriptive statistics of reasons for boar culling revealed that the frequency of unplanned cull boar accounted for a large proportion (88.04%), reproductive disorders (40.61%) and lameness (27.2%) were the most frequently cited reasons. Sperm-related problems accounted for the largest proportion (668, 70.24%) due to reproductive disorders, followed by the abnormal genital system (169, 17.78%). The highest frequency of reproductive disorders was arisen in May (17.98%), and the relatively high culling frequency lasted for 16 weeks until August (10.00%), especially for the Yorkshire boar that owned highest culling risk (47.09%) with the culled number reached peak in May (60, 21.82%), followed by July (33, 12.00%). In addition, the highest frequency of boar culling due to lameness appeared in May (90, 14.13%), followed by January (68, 10.68%) and December (66, 10.36%) with cold and wet. It was speculated that extreme weather was more likely to cause lameness. Our research suggested farmers under subtropical climate should take effective measures to reduce heat and humidity stress at the earliest, preferably from late spring to August to improve reproductive efficiency on boar studs and also take breed differences into their decision-making processes to ensure adequate boar power and customer satisfaction. To separate one base metal mineral from another by flotation, it is indispensable to identify chemical reagents that specifically interact with the surface metal sites of one mineral or a group of minerals. This work studies the interactions of chelating collectors which offer the best potential for collecting abilities and mineral specificity with a typical refractory oxide mineral (malachite). Zeta potential, adsorption and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) measurements are applied to differentiate the interactions of salicylaldoxime and salicyl hydroxamate on the malachite surface. Salicylaldoxime and salicyl hydroxamate are of molecular structures that resemble each other, but with different bond distances in the ligand atoms which result in their unusual adsorption behavior and collecting ability. Thus, the flotation of malachite behaves differently with the two chelating collectors. This study might provide useful clues for designing novel collectors in base metal oxide flotations. Cognitive radio (CR) provides a theoretical foundation to achieve the cognitive function and collaborative function for the positioning nodes. Under this trend, the cognitive positioning system (CPS) has emerged. But the limitation of the traditional range accuracy adaptation criterion based on Cramér-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) makes it very difficult to put CPS into practices. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to further study the criterion in complex noise environment. Based on the time of arrival (TOA) location estimation algorithm, we analyze the performance of the range accuracy adaptation algorithm, which take the Ziv-Zakai lower bound information as the CPS parameter optimization criterion. Simulation results show that the bound can provide more complete range accuracy adaptation information compared with CRLB. Furthermore, we can improve the positioning accuracy by means of enhancing the system signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), adjusting the system bandwidth and increasing the observation duration. Over the past three decades, with the development of urbanization in Wuhan, farmers' income has been substantially increased in Wuhan City, and urbanization has played an important role in farmers' income growth. By the empirical analysis of the data related to the level of urbanization development and farmers' income in Wuhan City during 1993 -2013, this paper finds that there is a long-term stable equilibrium relationship between urbanization development and farmers' income growth in Wuhan City, and urbanization development has become an important driving force for farmers' income growth. The adsorption capacity of lignin for lead can be controlled by varying the chain length of alkyl, attaching the amine to the lignin surface from C2 (ethyl) to C18 (octadecyl). Altering the chain length had a strong effect on the contribution of amine groups in the adsorption of lead ions by lignin. The adsorption capacity increased 105.0% as the chain length increased to butyl (C4); however, further chain lengths, up to C18, provided no additional benefit, and in some cases even hindered the adsorption capacity of lignin. A short-chain alkyl (C4) group enhanced the beneficial amine contributions for metal ion adsorption, which resulted from the efficient inductive effectiveness of the alkyl groups. Mink enteritis virus (MEV) is one of the most important pathogens in the mink industry. Recent studies have shed light into the role of microRNAs (miRNAs), small noncoding RNAs of length ranging from 18–23 nucleotides (nt), as critical modulators in the host-pathogen interaction networks. We previously showed that miRNA miR-181b can inhibit MEV replication by repression of viral non-structural protein 1 expression. Here, we report that two other miRNAs (miR-320a and miR-140) inhibit MEV entry into feline kidney (F81) cells by downregulating its receptor, transferrin receptor (TfR), by targeting the 3′ untranslated region (UTR) of TfR mRNA, while being themselves upregulated. The wettability of a solid material is very important in many applications, such as food, agrochemical formulations, and cosmetics. Wettability can be improved by adding surface active agents, especially biocompatible surfactants derived from biomass. In this work, the surface activity (ability to lower the surface tension of an aqueous solution) and wettability toward a hydrophobic powder by a series of sodium lignosulfonates (NaLS) synthesized with different degree of sulfonation (QS) and weight-average molecular weights (Mw) were investigated by measuring the surface tension and contact angle. The results demonstrated NaLS with a larger Mw or lower QS had higher surface activity. Conversely, the wettability of the NaLS aqueous solution toward difenoconazole powder showed a reverse trend, i.e., NaLS with a smaller Mw or higher Qs improved the wettability to difenoconazole. The surface activity and wettability was controlled by the varying densities of the NaLS molecules at the water to air interface or the solid/liquid interface, which was dependent on the molecular structure of NaLS. There is much research on nanomaterial from natural polymer because of its biocompatibility, abundance, and non-toxicity. This work is devoted to the study of free radical scavenging activities (FRSA) of nanoscale lignin biomaterials, which are recognized as promising natural antioxidants. The nanoscale lignin biomaterials were prepared from alkaline lignin by a solution-precipitation method with either ethylene glycol (NL1) or alkaline solution (NL2). Structural analysis of the nanoscale lignin biomaterials were conducted by Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), laser particle size analyzer, Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), potentiometric titration, and gel permeation chromatography (GPC). The results indicated that NL2 had a smaller average particle size (278±13 nm) than NL1 (375±18 nm) and contained more phenolic hydroxyl groups (2.35±0.11 mmol/g) and had a lower weight-average molecular weight (Mw=6510±320). The FRSA of the biomaterials towards hydroxyl free radicals were measured and compared with the alkaline lignin. Some structure-activity relationships were proposed based on the analysis of experiment data, which revealed NL2 (IC50=0.18±0.01 mg/mL) had a 3.33 fold higher activity than NL1 (IC50=0.60±0.05 mg/mL), which could be attributed to the smaller particle size, more phenolic hydroxyl group, and lower weight-average molecular weight. Six different types of cancer (i.e., breast, lung, colorectal, esophageal, gastric, and thyroid cancer) have high rates of incidence or mortality worldwide. It has been shown that activation of de novo lipogenesis is an early and common event in the cancer microenvironment. In this study, we performed lipid imaging and profiling for 134 tissue samples from six different types of cancer using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ ionization-Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometry, with 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid and 1,8-bis(dimethyl-amino)naphthalene as matrices in the positive and negative ion modes, respectively. Multivariate statistical analysis coupled with lipid distribution images revealed that significantly increased levels of monounsaturated fatty acids and monounsaturated phosphatidylcholines relative to polyunsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated phosphatidylcholines were observed in the cancer microenvironment compared with the adjacent normal tissue. The immunohistochemical assay indicated that fatty acid synthase, stearoyl-CoA desaturase-1, and choline kinase α were up-regulated in the cancer microenvironment compared with the adjacent normal tissue. Our findings suggest that de novo lipogenesis was activated in six types of cancer to promote a biosynthesis of lipids with monounsaturated acyl chains and to suppress a biosynthesis of polyunsaturated lipids in the cancer microenvironment. A porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) QY1 was serially passed on Marc-145 cells. Virulence of different intermediate derivatives of QY1 (P5, P60, P80, and P100) were determined. The study found that QY1 had been gradually attenuated during the in vitro process. Pathogenicity study showed that pigs inoculated with QY1 P100 and P80 did not develop any significant PRRS clinic symptoms. However, mild-to-moderate clinical signs and acute HP-PRRSV symptoms of infection were observed in pigs inoculated with QY1 P60 and P5, respectively. Furthermore, we determined the whole genome sequences of these four intermediate viruses. The results showed that after 100 passages, compared to QY1 P5, a total of 32 amino acid mutations were found. Moreover, there were one nucleotide deletion and a unique 34-amino acid deletion found at 5'UTR and in nsp2 gene during the attenuation process, respectively. Such deletions were genetically stable in vivo. Following PRRSV experimental challenge, pigs inoculated with a single dose of QY1 P100 developed no significant clinic symptoms and well tolerated lethal challenge, while QY1 P80 group still developed mild fever in the clinic trial after challenge. To explore the effects of long-term weightlessness on the renal tissue, we used the two months tail suspension model to simulate microgravity and investigated the simulated microgravity on the renal morphological damages and related molecular mechanisms. The microscopic examination of tissue structure and ultrastructure was carried out for histopathological changes of renal tissue morphology. The immunohistochemistry, real-time PCR and Western blot were performed to explore the molecular mechanisms associated the observations. Hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining showed severe pathological kidney lesions including glomerular atrophy, degeneration and necrosis of renal tubular epithelial cells in two months tail-suspended rats. Ultrastructural studies of the renal tubular epithelial cells demonstrated that basal laminas of renal tubules were rough and incrassate with mitochondria swelling and vacuolation. Cell apoptosis in kidney monitored by the expression of Bax/Bcl-2 and caspase-3 accompanied these pathological damages caused by long-term microgravity. Analysis of the HSP70 protein expression illustrated that overexpression of HSP70 might play a crucial role in inducing those pathological damages. Glucose regulated protein 78 (GRP78), one of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) chaperones, was up-regulated significantly in the kidney of tail suspension rat, which implied that ER-stress was associated with apoptosis. Furthermore, CHOP and caspase-12 pathways were activated in ER-stress induced apoptosis. Resistance training not only reduced kidney cell apoptosis and expression of HSP70 protein, it also can attenuate the kidney impairment imposed by weightlessness. Pancreatic cancer is a highly lethal disease which is difficult to diagnose at early stage and even more difficult to cure. In this study, we applied a gradient clear native gel system combined with subsequent second-dimensional SDS-PAGE to separate protein complexes from cell lysates of SW1990 and PANC-1 pancreatic cancer cell lines with different degrees of differentiation. Ten heat-shock-protein- (HSP-) associated protein complexes were separated and identified, and the differentially expressed proteins related to cancers were also found, such as HSP60, protein disulfide-isomerase A4 (ERp72), and transitional endoplasmic reticulum ATPase (TER ATPase). Different molecular weight fractions of lignosulfonates (LS), LS having different cations, and modified LS with different degree of sulfonation and intrinsic viscosity were prepared and used as dispersants for Dimethomorph water-dispersible granules (DWG). The suspending ratio of DWG was tested to evaluate the effectiveness of LS as a dispersant. Moreover, the stability of DWG suspensions was measured by a new instrument (Turbiscan LabExpert). The suspending ratios of DWG having different molecular weight fraction of LS increased with increasing molecular weight in a suitable range. The kind of cation associated with the LS didn't have an obvious influence the effectiveness of LS as a dispersant. Furthermore, the higher degree of sulfonation of LS, of which the intrinsic viscosity was similar, the better was its effectiveness as a dispersant. When the intrinsic viscosity increased within a suitable range, the effectiveness of LS as a dispersant increased. Similar findings were achieved by evaluating the stability of DWG suspensions with all the LS as dispersants, and larger molecular weight could decrease the growth of particle size. Nearly monodisperse core-shell Fe3O4/SiO2 microspheres have been prepared via a glycol reduction method followed by a modified Stober process. The thickness of the silica shells can be tuned in the range 33-53 nm by varying the amount of tetraethyl silicate (TEOS) during syntheses. The magnetic composite microspheres were characterized with XRD, XPS, FTIR, TEM, ICP-OES and VSM, and further tested as adsorbents for purification of plasmid DNA from Escherichia coli DH5a cells. The magnetic purification of plasmid DNA leads to satisfying integrity, yield and purity in comparison with those isolated by the traditional phenol-chloroform extraction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
