Background: This study aims to analyse changes in urinary kidney injury markers in children with Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia (MPP), investigate the risk factors for MPP-related acute kidney injury (AKI) and establish a model to predict MPP-related AKI. Methods: Ninety-five children were enrolled based on the study's inclusion and exclusion criteria. They were divided into a severe MPP (SMPP) group and a non-SMPP group and then into an AKI group and a non-AKI group according to the presence of AKI. A univariate logistic regression analysis was performed to explore the early risk factors for AKI. Based on a multivariate logistic regression analysis and a least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression analysis, appropriate variables were selected to establish a prediction model, and R 4.2.2 software was used to draw nomograms and generate a dynamic nomogram website. Results: Seven urinary kidney injury markers were abnormally elevated in the SMPP group and the non-SMPP group: urinary N-acetyl-β-D-glucosaminidase (NAG), β2-microglobulin, α1-microglobulin, retinol-binding protein, urinary immunoglobulin G, urinary transferrin and urinary microalbumin. Sixteen children were identified with AKI during hospitalisation. The AKI group had higher levels of urinary NAG, α1-microglobulin, β2-microglobulin, urinary microalbumin, urinary transferrin and retinol-binding protein than the non-AKI group (P < 0.05). The MPP-related AKI prediction model consists of four indicators (serum immunoglobulin M [IgM], C-reactive protein [CRP], urine NAG and sputum plug presence) and a dynamic nomogram. Conclusion: Urinary kidney injury markers are often elevated in children with MPP; urinary NAG is the marker most likely to be elevated, and it is especially evident in severe cases. Background: Recently, the hemoglobin to albumin ratio (HAR) has been shown to be closely associated with the survival of certain malignancies. However, its prognostic value in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) remained to be elucidated. Herein, we aimed to explore the correlation between HAR and overall survival (OS) in NPC patients treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). Methods: This retrospective study included a total of 858 patients with NPC receiving CCRT between January 2010 and December 2014 in Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center. We randomly divided them into the training cohort (N = 602) and the validation cohort (N = 206). We performed univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses to identify variables associated with OS, based on which, a predictive nomogram was constructed and assessed. Results: In both the training and validation cohorts, patients were classified into low- and high-HAR groups according to the cutoff value determined by the maximally selected rank statistics. This HAR cutoff value effectively divided patients into two distinct prognostic groups with significant differences. Multivariable Cox analysis revealed that higher T-stage, N-stage, and HAR values were significantly related to poorer prognosis in NPC patients and served as independent prognostic factors for NPC. Based on these, a predictive model was constructed and graphically presented as a nomogram, whose predictive performance is satisfactory with a C-index of 0.744 [95%CI: 0.679–0.809] and superior to traditional TNM staging system [C-index = 0.609, 95%CI: 0.448–0.770]. Conclusion: The HAR value was an independent predictor for NPC patients treated with CCRT, the predictive model based on HAR with superior predictive performance than traditional TNM staging system might improve individualized survival predictions. Background: Although there is a strong correlation between the novel cholesterol-to-lymphocyte ratio (CLR) and tumor survival, its prognostic significance in breast cancer (BC) is unknown. After analyzing the relationship between CLR and the overall survival (OS) of patients with BC, we created a predictive model. Methods: Following retrospective enrollment, 1316 patients with BC were randomized into two cohorts: validation (n = 392) and training (n = 924). Distinct factors within the training dataset were identified for OS by univariate and multivariate Cox analyses; two-tailed P-value < 0.05 were considered to indicate statistical significance. On this premise, we developed novel signals for survival prediction and utilized the calibration curve, receiver operating characteristic curves, and concordance index (C-index) to validate their efficacy across both datasets. Results: Patients with BC were categorized into two categories with differing prognoses based on the CLR score [hazard ratio = 0.492; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.286–0.846, P = 0.009]. A prediction nomogram was created based on multivariate analysis, which showed that N stage, postoperative pathological categorization, and CLR score were all independently correlated with OS. In the training [C-index = 0.831 (95% CI: 0.788–0.874)] and validation [C-index = 0.775 (95% CI: 0.694–0.856)] cohorts, the nomogram demonstrated favorable performance in predicting OS. In both the training and validation cohorts, it outperformed the traditional staging system [C-index = 0.702 (95% CI: 0.623–0.782)] and [C-index = 0.709 (95% CI: 0.570–0.847)]. The accurate prediction by the signature was further demonstrated by the time-dependent receiver operating characteristic curves. Conclusions: The novel immunonutritional marker CLR could function as a simplified, cost-effective, easily accessible, non-invasive, and readily promotive prognostic indicator for patients with early-stage BC and demonstrates superior predictive power than the traditional staging system. BACKGROUND: With the widespread use of low-dose spiral computed tomography (LDCT) and increasing awareness of personal health, the detection rate of pulmonary nodules is steadily rising. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the success rate and safety of two different models of Hook-Wire needle localization procedures for pulmonary small nodule biopsy. METHODS: Ninety-four cases with a total of 97 pulmonary small nodules undergoing needle localization biopsy were retrospectively analyzed. The cases were divided into two groups: Group A, using breast localization needle steel wire (Bard Healthcare Science Co., Ltd.); Group B, using disposable pulmonary nodule puncture needle (SensCure Biotechnology Co., Ltd.). All patients underwent video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for nodule removal on the same day after localization and biopsy. The puncture localization operation time, success rate, complications such as pulmonary hemorrhage, pneumothorax, hemoptysis, and postoperative comfort were observed and compared. RESULTS: In Group A, the average localization operation time for 97 nodules was 15.47 ± 5.31 minutes, with a success rate of 94.34%. The complication rate was 71.69% (12 cases of pneumothorax, 35 cases of pulmonary hemorrhage, 2 cases of hemoptysis), and 40 cases of post-localization discomfort were reported. In Group B, the average localization operation time was 25.32 ± 7.83 minutes, with a 100% success rate. The complication rate was 29.55% (3 cases of pneumothorax, 15 cases of pulmonary hemorrhage, 0 cases of hemoptysis), and 3 cases reported postoperative discomfort. According to the data analysis in this study, Group B had a lower incidence of puncture-related complications than Group A, along with a higher success rate and significantly greater postoperative comfort. CONCLUSIONS: The disposable pulmonary nodule puncture needle is safer and more effective in pulmonary small nodule localization biopsy, exhibiting increased comfort compared to the breast localization needle. To analyze the relevant research publications on infectious disease nursing in China to understand the current research status of infectious disease in nursing. Methods: Retrieve relevant literature on infectious disease in nursing from the establishment of the Chinese Biomedical Literature Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP Database, and Wanfang Database until May 10, 2021. Conduct bibliometric analysis using CiteSpace software. Key words were analyzed using cluster analysis. Results: A total of 4693 relevant literature on infectious disease research in nursing care were included in this study. The overall number of publications on infectious disease research in nursing showed an increasing trend, with a peak in 2010. There were 324 papers funded by scientific research funds, mainly from provincial-level fund projects. The core journal with the most published articles was Nursing Research. The research on infectious disease in nursing mainly focused on various aspects of infectious disease in nursing and infection control. CiteSpace cluster analysis of keywords showed that a total of six clusters were formed: infectious diseases, infectious disease care, health education, mental health, infectious disease nurses, and etiology. After 2015, high-mutation keywords included "quality nursing" and "infection control". Conclusion: Chinese research on infectious disease research in nursing closely follows clinical reality and has developed rapidly. Currently, research focuses on infectious disease research in nursing and infection control. Future research trends will further broaden the depth and breadth of the research, enhance research on infection control and quality nursing, and improve the breadth and depth of the research. Dansyl chloride has been widely used in metal ion recognition as a fluorescent sensing molecule. The interaction between fluorescent probes and metal ions is summarized, and the research progress in the structural design of dansyl group receptors in the field of metal ion fluorescent probes since 2010 is discussed. Its sensing mechanism involves intramolecular induced photoelectron transfer, charge transfer, dimethylamino deprotonation/protonation, formation of monomer-excitation complex, chelate-enhanced fluorescence transfer, complexation reaction, fluorescence resonance energy transfer, and other ones. The rules of the fluorescent responses of dansyl group under various mechanisms are also discussed, such as fluorescence quenching induced by intramolecular charge transfer and chelation triggered fluorescence enhancement. Background: Previous studies have shown that ALDH2 and ADH1B genes may be associated with alcohol metabolism and the risk of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), with inconsistent results. This meta‐analysis aimed at comprehensively assessing the associations between ALDH2 and ADH1B polymorphisms and the risk of ESCC to synthesize and clarify the evidence. Methods: We calculated summary estimates of the associations between four genetic variants (rs671 and rs674 in ALDH2, and rs1229984 and rs1042026 in ADH1B) and the ESCC risk across 23 publications in the additive model and allelic model. Venice criteria, Bayesian false discovery probability (BFDP), and false‐positive reporting probability (FPRP) were used to assess the strength of epidemiological evidence. Heterogeneity among studies was evaluated by using the Higgin's I2 statistic, and publication bias was assessed by using funnel plots and Begg's test. A Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was performed to determine the causal association between alcohol intake and esophageal cancer risk. Data from the HaploReg v4.1 and PolyPhen‐2 were analyzed for functional annotations. Results: Of the four genetic variants, rs671 of ALDH2 was associated with a significantly reduced risk of ESCC (OR: 0.60, 95% CI: 0.50–0.73), whereas rs1229984 of ADH1B was associated with a significantly increased risk (2.50, 95% CI: 1.70–3.69) in the additive model. In the allelic model, the variant rs1229984 of ADH1B also increased the risk of ESCC (OR: 1.50; 95% CI: 1.21–1.87). The result for the variant rs671 was considered as strong epidemiological evidence. Functional annotations identified that the four variants were related to the enhancer histone marks and motif changes. The other two variants were not associated with the ESCC risk (rs674 of ALDH2 OR: 1.22, 95% CI: 0.71–2.12; rs1042026 of ADH1B OR: 1.28, 95% CI: 0.52–3.14) in the additive model. The MR analysis did not find a causal effect of alcohol on the esophageal cancer risk. p-Hydroxyacetophenone (p-HAP) has been used as a preservative in cosmetics, however, its new efficacy has rarely been reported. Herein, the soothing and oil control efficacy of p-HAP was evaluated by cellular in vitro method to provide new efficacy basis for application in cosmetics. The content of nitric oxide (NO), tumor necrosis factor a (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) was determined in LPS-induced RAW264.7. The lipid content was determined in testosterone-induced SZ95. The results revealed that p-HAP could significantly inhibit these pro-inflammatory cytokines, including NO, TNF-α and IL-6 (P < 0.01). In addition, 0.05 mg/mLp-HAP could inhibit the formation of lipid droplets in human sebocytes, with inhibition rate of 17.64% (P < 0.001). These findings might imply the potential application of p-HAP as a functional ingredient in cosmetics, which might have soothing and oil control efficacy according to the inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines and lipid content. To investigate the effects of molybdenum (Mo) on apoptosis of lymphocytes and changes of peripheral blood in sheep, a total of 20 5-month-old healthy female sheep were randomly divided into five groups of 4 and orally administered with water containing Na2MoO4·2H2O (0, 5, 10, 20, and 50 mg/kg BW/day) for 28 days. Jugular vein blood was taken on the 0th, 7th, 14th, 21st, and 28th day of Mo treatment, respectively. On the 28th day, the spleen and thymus were removed for observing histopathology and apoptosis-related DNA damage by hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining and TdT‑mediated dUTP Nick-End Labeling (TUNEL) staining, respectively. The blood routine indexes were determined by an automatic blood analyzer. Further, the apoptosis of lymphocytes and changes in mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP) of peripheral blood were analyzed by flow cytometry. Results showed that excessive Mo induced apoptosis-related DNA damage in the splenocytes and thymocytes and significantly increased the apoptosis indexes of the splenocytes and thymocytes (P < 0.01). Furthermore, the treatment with excessive Mo significantly decreased the MMP (P < 0.01) and promoted apoptosis in peripheral blood lymphocytes (P < 0.01). And the number of WBC, Lymph, Gran, and RBC and the indexes of HGB and HCT were also significantly decreased (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01), while RDW was significantly increased by excessive Mo (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01). In conclusion, excessive Mo-induced DNA damage and apoptosis of the lymphocytes changed the RBC-related indexes of the peripheral blood in sheep. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To investigate fluoride (F)-induced intestine barrier damage and the role of estrogen deficiency in this progress, a rat model of estrogen deficiency was established through bilateral surgical removal of ovaries. The F exposure model was then continued by adding sodium fluoride (0, 25, 50, and 100 mg/L, calculated on a fluorine ion basis) to drinking water for 90 days. Afterward, intestinal mucosal structure, barrier function, and inflammatory cytokines were evaluated. The results showed that excessive F decreased the developmental parameters (crypt depth) of the cecum and rectum and inhibited the proliferation capacity of the intestinal epithelia, which are more obvious in the state of estrogen deficiency. The distribution of goblet cells and glycoproteins in the intestinal mucosa decreased with the increase in F concentration, and estrogen deficiency led to a further decline, especially in the rectum. Using the immunofluorescence method, the study showed that excessive F caused interleukin-17A (IL-17A) significantly decrease in the cecum and increase in the rectum. Meanwhile, F treatment remarkably upregulated the expression of intestinal IL-1β, IL-23, and IL-22, while the level of IL-6 was downregulated. In addition, estrogen deficiency increased IL-1β, IL-6, IL-23, and IL-22, but decreased IL-17A expression in the cecum and rectum. Collectively, F exposure damaged intestinal morphological structure, inhibited epithelial cell proliferation and mucus barrier function, and resulted in the disturbance of T helper (Th) 17 cell-related cytokines expression. Augmenting the vascular supply to generate new tissues, a crucial aspect in regenerative medicine, has been challenging. Recently, our group showed that calcium phosphate can induce the formation of a functional neo-angiosome without the need for microsurgical arterial anastomosis. This was a preclinical proof of concept for biomaterial-induced luminal sprouting of large-diameter vessels. In this study, we investigated if sprouting was a general response to surgical injury or placement of an inorganic construct around the vessel. Cylindrical biocement scaffolds of differing chemistries were placed around the femoral vein. A contrast agent was used to visualize vessel ingrowth into the scaffolds. Cell populations in the scaffold were mapped using immunohistochemistry. Calcium phosphate scaffolds induced 2.7–3 times greater volume of blood vessels than calcium sulphate or magnesium phosphate scaffolds. Macrophage and vSMC populations were identified that changed spatially and temporally within the scaffold during implantation. NLRP3 inflammasome activation peaked at weeks 2 and 4 and then declined; however, IL-1β expression was sustained over the course of the experiment. IL-8, a promoter of angiogenesis, was also detected, and together, these responses suggest a role of sterile inflammation. Unexpectedly, the effect was distinct from an injury response as a result of surgical placement and also was not simply a foreign body reaction as a result of placing a rigid bioceramic next to a vein, since, while the materials tested had similar microstructures, only the calcium phosphates tested elicited an angiogenic response. Recent research results show that great progress has been made in improving the generation rate of physical random numbers. However, there are still some defects such as complex generation process and large volume. To solve these problems, this paper theoretically proposes a scheme for generating random numbers using mode hopping of Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) with optical feedback. The VCSEL is perturbed by the optical feedback to generate the mode hopping. The square wave signal then modulates the injection current, periodically restarts the VCSEL to switch from the non-emitting state to the mode hopping state, and finally outputs a random pulse sequence to realize the random number generation. The results of this paper show that unbiased random numbers with verified randomness can be generated continuously at a rate of the order of Gbit/s. Our scheme eliminates the need for optoelectronic conversion and post-processing operations, simplifying he current random number generation structure, which has the potential to realize a low-cost photonic integrated random number generator. CO2 hydrogenation to CH3OH via heterogeneous catalysis is one of the most promising and available approaches for mitigation of anthropogenic CO2 issues. In this work, thermodynamic equilibria of CO2 to methanol were compared with experimental results at given conditions using a commercial Cu/ZnO/Al2O3 catalyst for CO hydrogenation to methanol. It was found that, the high pressure, low temperature, and high H2/CO2 ratio are favorable to methanol synthesis from CO2. Furthermore, the kinetic data were measured with an isothermal integral reactor under temperature between 160 and 240 °C, lower than that for CO hydrogenation to methanol reaction. Based on the single-active site and dual-active site LH mechanisms, both kinetic models can achieve full illustration of the influence of the operating conditions and the mechanisms. According to comparative analysis of the error variances of model correlations and the adsorbate coverages on the active sites, the dual-site mechanism identified to be superior to the single-site one for methanol synthesis from CO2 feedstock. The abdomen of a honeybee is a blueprint for bioinspired mechanical design because of its movement flexibility and compactness. However, the abdominal muscles closely related to the movement flexibility mechanism have not been fully identified, limiting the potential biological advantage of their use in bionic mechanism design. In this study, we reveal the muscle distribution of the complete muscular driving unit in a honeybee abdomen using stereoscopy and scanning electron microscopy, and the muscle distribution was effectively verified using X‐ray tomography. A novel equivalent unit mechanism (EUM) was then proposed and the kinematic analysis indicated that the extension ratio, bending angle, and swing angle of the EUM reached 9.36%, 1.22°, and 4.43°, respectively. The deformation ability of the EUM was consistent with the movement of the abdomen, confirming the movement flexibility. Background: The value of the lymphocyte-to-C-reactive protein (CRP) ratio (LCR) in early breast cancer (BC) is unclear. We explored the correlation between the LCR and survival of patients with early BC and established effective LCR-based prognostic signatures for predicting prognosis. Methods: In this retrospective study, we randomized 623 patients with early-stage BC diagnosed in December 2010 to October 2012 at the Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center to training and verification datasets. The median follow-up of all patients was 109 months. The survival differences were calculated by Kaplan–Meier method using the Log rank test. For overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS), the independent factors in the training dataset were identified using univariate and multivariate Cox analyses, in which two-tailed P-values < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Based on this, we respectively constructed novel signatures for survival prediction and validated the efficiency of signatures through the concordance index (C-index), calibration and receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves in both datasets. Results: The LCR, lymphatic vessel invasion (LVI), progesterone receptor (PR) status, and Ki67 index were independent prognostic factors of OS. And the LCR and LVI are associated to DFS too. High LCR was associated with better OS and DFS. We constructed the prediction signatures based on those independent prognostic factors and calculated the risk scores. Patients in the training dataset with higher risk scores had significantly worse prognosis (P < 0.001). The signature had excellent discrimination capacity, with an OS C-index of 0.785 [95% confidence interval (CI): 0.713– 0.857] and 0.750 (95% CI: 0.669– 0.832) in the training and verification datasets, respectively. The time–ROC curves also suggest accurate prediction by the signature. Conclusion: The LCR was a significant prognostic predictor of OS and DFS in early BC. Tip growth is a special type of polarized growth in which a single and unique polarization site is established and maintained. Rho of Plants (ROP) proteins, which represent the only class of Rho GTPases in plants, regulate tip growth. The dynamic and asymmetric distribution of ROPs is critical for the establishment and maintenance of tip growth, and requires at least one positive feedback loop, which is still elusive. Here, we report a positive feedback circuit essential for tip growth of root hairs, in which ROPs, ROP activators and effectors, and AGC1.5 subfamily kinases are interconnected by sequential oligomerization and phosphorylation. AGC1.5 subfamily kinases interact with and phosphorylate two guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEFs) of ROPs, RopGEF4 and RopGEF10. They also interact with two ROP effectors, ICR2/RIP3 and MIDD1/RIP4, which bridge active ROPs with AGC1.5. Functional loss of the AGC1.5 subfamily kinases or ICR2 and MIDD1 compromised root hair growth due to reduced ROP signaling. We found that asymmetric targeting of RopGEF4 and RopGEF10 is controlled by AGC1.5-dependent phosphorylation. Interestingly, we discovered that the ROP effectors recruit AGC1.5 to active ROP domains at the plasma membrane during root hair growth and are critical for AGC1.5-dependent phosphorylation of RopGEFs. Given the large number of AGC kinases in plants, this positive feedback circuit may be a universal theme for plant cell polar growth. An earthquake catalog based on a unified magnitude scale is an important prerequisite for analyses of seismic activities and seismic hazards. To unify the magnitude scales of earthquakes in China's seas and neighboring regions, we developed conversion relationships between surface- and body-wave magnitudes and the global centroid moment tensor (GCMT) and National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) moment magnitudes for shallow and intermediate- and deep-focus earthquakes in China's seas and adjacent areas. We employed data collected by the Chinese Earthquake Network Center, GCMT, and NIED for earthquakes of magnitude 4.5 and higher in China's seas and neighboring regions from 1976 to 2018. We used the linear least squares regression method and the orthogonal regression method to fit the seismic data under different magnitude ranges and different focal depth ranges. The results provided empirical formulas to unify magnitude scales for the earthquakes in China's seas and neighboring regions and also provided an important basis for seismic catalog integrity analyses and seismic activity studies for this area. Purpose: The prognostic value of caveolin-1 in prostate cancer remains uncertain. Hence, this meta-analysis was performed to evaluate the prognostic value of caveolin-1 in prostate cancer, as well as ascertain the relationship between caveolin-1 expression and clinicopathological characteristics of prostate cancer patients. Methods: The PubMed, Embase, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure and Chinese Biology Medicine databases were electronically searched to retrieve published studies on caveolin-1 expression in prostate cancer. After study selection and data extraction, the meta-analysis was conducted using Review manager 5.3 software. Odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) was used to estimate the pooled effect. Funnel plot was used to assess publication bias. Results: A total of ten studies were enrolled, which included 3976 cases of prostate cancer, 72 cases of high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (HGPIN), and 157 normal controls. Results of the meta-analysis showed that the positive rate of caveolin-1 expression in prostate cancer was 18.28 times higher than that in normal control (OR= 18.28, 95% CI: 9.02–37.04, p<0.01), and 4.73 times higher than that in HGPIN (OR= 4.73, 95% CI: 2.38–9.42, p<0.01). The relationship between caveolin-1 and clinicopathological characteristics of prostate cancer showed that the differences in caveolin-1 expression in patients with prostate-specific antigen (PSA) >10 vs. ≤ 10 (OR=2.09, 95% CI: 1.35–3.22, p<0.01), differentiation degree low vs. medium/high (OR=2.74, 95% CI: 1.84–4.08, p<0.01), TNM stage T3+T4 vs. T1+T2 (OR=2.77, 95% CI: 1.78–4.29, p<0.01), and lymph node metastasis present vs. absent (OR=2.61, 95% CI: 1.84–3.69, p<0.01) were statistically significant. The correlation analysis between caveolin-1 and the survival time of patients with prostate cancer demonstrated that caveolin-1 was closely related to the prognosis of prostate cancer patients (HR=1.50, 95% CI: 1.28–1.76, p<0.01). Conclusion: Caveolin-1 is overexpressed in prostate cancer, which can serve as a risk factor and adverse clinicopathological feature of prostate cancer. Extensive clinical trials indicate that patients with negative sentinel lymph node biopsy do not need axillary lymph node dissection (ALND). However, the ACOSOG Z0011 trial indicates that patients with clinically negative axillary lymph nodes (ALNs) and 1–2 positive sentinel lymph nodes having breast conserving surgery with whole breast radiotherapy do not benefit from ALND. The aim of this study is therefore to identify those patients with 0–2 positive nodes who might avoid ALND. A total of 486 patients were eligible for the study with 212 patients in the modeling group and 274 patients in the validation group, respectively. Clinical lymph node status, histologic grade, estrogen receptor status, and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 status were found to be significantly associated with ALN metastasis. A negative binomial regression (NBR) model was developed to predict the probability of having 0–2 ALN metastases with the area under the curve of 0.881 (95% confidence interval 0.829–0.921, P < 0.001) in the modeling group and 0.758 (95% confidence interval 0.702–0.807, P < 0.001) in the validation group. Decision curve analysis demonstrated that the model was clinically useful. The NBR model demonstrated adequate discriminative ability and clinical utility for predicting 0–2 ALN metastases. Background: Recent researches have shown that long non-coding RNA (LncRNA) is often disordered and acts in many carcinomas. Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the main reason for carcinoma-related deaths, which are mainly caused by the metastasis. HCP5 is a newly discovered LcnRNA. Early studies have found that HCP5 acts in neoplasm metastasis, but the mechanism of HCP5 in ccRCC is still unclear. Methods: The expression of HCP5 in human renal cell carcinoma (RCC) was detected by real-time quantitative PCR. The biological effect of LncRNAs in proliferation, migration, invasion and metastasis of RCC cells was explored by gain-of-function and loss-of-function tests. The molecular mechanism of LncRNAs was explored by RNA immunoprecipitation and Western blot. Results: qRT-PCR revealed that HCP5 was enhanced in neoplasm tissues of ccRCC patients and correlated with the metastatic characteristics of RCC. Over-expression of HCP5 promoted the proliferation, migration and invasion of renal carcinoma cells. The deletion of HCP5 inhibited the proliferation, migration and invasion of RCC in vitro and the metastasis of RCC in vivo. Mechanically, HCP5 inhibited the growth and metastasis of ccRCC cells by regulating miR-214-3p/MAPK1 axis. SUMMARY: Root nutation indicates the behavior that roots grow in a waving and skewing way due to unequal growth rates on different sides. Although a few developmental and environmental factors have been reported, genetic pathways mediating this process are obscure. We report here that the Arabidopsis CrRLK1L family member FERONIA (FER) is critical for root nutation. Functional loss of FER resulted in enhanced root waviness on tilted plates or roots forming anti‐clockwise coils on horizontal plates. Suppressing polar auxin transport, either by pharmacological treatment or by introducing mutations at PIN‐FORMED2 (PIN2) or AUXIN RESISTANT1 (AUX1), suppressed the asymmetric root growth (ARG) in fer‐4, a null mutant of FER, indicating that FER suppression of ARG depends on polar auxin transport. We further showed by pharmacological treatments that dynamic microtubule organization and Ca2+ signaling are both critical for FER‐mediated ARG. Results presented here demonstrate a key role of FER in mediating root nutating growth, through PIN2‐ and AUX1‐mediated auxin transport, through dynamic microtubule organization, and through Ca2+ signaling. This study determines whether the viability of mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) in vitro is most sensitive to oxygen supply, energetic substrate supply, or accumulation of lactate. Mouse unmodified (wild type (WT)) and erythropoietin (EPO) gene‐modified MSC is cultured for 7 days in normoxic (21%) and anoxic conditions. WT‐MSC is cultured in anoxia for 45 days in high and regular glucose media and both have similar viability when compared to their normoxic controls at 7 days. Protein production of EPO‐MSC is unaffected by the absence of oxygen. MSC doubling time and post‐anoxic exposure is increased (WT: 32.3–73.3 h; EPO: 27.2–115 h). High glucose leads to a 37% increase in cell viability at 13 days and 17% at 30 days, indicating that MSC anoxic survival is affected by supply of metabolic substrate. However, after 30 days, little difference in viability is found, and at 45 days, complete cell death occurs in both the conditions. This death cannot be attributed to lack of glucose or lactate levels. MSC stemness is retained for both osteogenic and adipogenic differentiations. Purpose: It was reported that the novel preoperative systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) can predict survival in cases of many malignant tumors. However, the prognostic significance of preoperative SII in breast cancer remains unclear. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between SII and survival in breast cancer patients. Methods: Breast cancer patients (1,026) who underwent a mastectomy at Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center were retrospectively studied. The SII was determined using the following formula: neutrophil count × platelet count/lymphocyte count. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to determine the optimal cut-off value for SII. Propensity score matching (PSM) was applied to develop comparable cohorts of high SII group and low SII group. Results: A total of 1,026 patients were included as the primary cohort, and 894 patients were matched and regarded as the matched cohort. Patients were divided into two groups based on SII value: SII <601.7 and high SII >601.7. In the primary cohort, the 5-years overall survival (OS), recurrence-free survival (RFS), and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) rates for high SII group and low SII group were (85.6% vs. 91.3%, P = 0.016), (95.8% vs. 96.4%, P = 0.684), and (83.5% vs. 90.6%, P = 0.007), respectively. Univariate analysis showed that histological type, T stage, N stage, PR, HER2, Ki67, and SII all showed significant associations with OS; and histological type, T stage, N stage, and SII all showed significant associations with DMFS. Multivariate survival analysis revealed that SII can independently predict OS (P = 0.017) and DMFS (P = 0.007). Similar results were found in PSM cohort. Conclusions: Preoperative SII may be a reliable predictor of OS and DMFS in patients with operable breast cancer to provide personalized prognostication and assist in formulation of the clinical treatment strategy. Emerging infectious diseases, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Zika virus disease, present a major threat to public health1–3. Despite intense research efforts, how, when and where new diseases appear are still a source of considerable uncertainty. A severe respiratory disease was recently reported in Wuhan, Hubei province, China. As of 25 January 2020, at least 1,975 cases had been reported since the first patient was hospitalized on 12 December 2019. Epidemiological investigations have suggested that the outbreak was associated with a seafood market in Wuhan. Here we study a single patient who was a worker at the market and who was admitted to the Central Hospital of Wuhan on 26 December 2019 while experiencing a severe respiratory syndrome that included fever, dizziness and a cough. Metagenomic RNA sequencing4 of a sample of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from the patient identified a new RNA virus strain from the family Coronaviridae, which is designated here 'WH-Human 1' coronavirus (and has also been referred to as '2019-nCoV'). Phylogenetic analysis of the complete viral genome (29,903 nucleotides) revealed that the virus was most closely related (89.1% nucleotide similarity) to a group of SARS-like coronaviruses (genus Betacoronavirus, subgenus Sarbecovirus) that had previously been found in bats in China5. This outbreak highlights the ongoing ability of viral spill-over from animals to cause severe disease in humans. Phylogenetic and metagenomic analyses of the complete viral genome of a new coronavirus from the family Coronaviridae reveal that the virus is closely related to a group of SARS-like coronaviruses found in bats in China. This study aimed at gaining an understanding of the formation of residents' Environmental Conservation Behaviour (ECB) to promote sustainable tourism development in Chinese mountain areas. In particular, a theoretical framework was constructed by merging residents' mountain attachment and their environmental values, and awareness of environmental consequences based on the Cognition Behaviour Theory. This research sampled 642 residents with convenience sampling method in Jiuzhaigou and Mount Qingcheng, and structural equation modelling analysis was conducted to identify the relationships among the above variables. Results verified that mountain attachment affected people's awareness of environmental consequences, which then affected their ECB. Environmental values and mountain attachment directly and positively influenced ECB. Moreover, awareness of environmental consequences played the most prominent role in predicting ECB among all the predictors in this study. In all, this study derived several significant implications which can not only contribute to environmental management policies in tourism field but also help to improve the levels of the antecedents of residents' ECB and promote sustainable tourism development in Chinese mountain areas. Integration of 1D, core/shell, and jagged features into one entity may provide a promising avenue for further enhancing catalyst performance. However, designing such unique nanostructures is extremely challenging. Herein, 1D serrated Au/Pd core/shell nanowires (CSNWs) with jagged edges were produced simply by a one-pot, dual-capping-agent-assisted method involving co-reduction, galvanic replacement, directional coalescence of preformed nanoparticles, and site-selective epitaxial growth of Pd. Au/PdCSNWs, compared with the commercially available Pd/C, exhibited enhanced electrocatalytic performance towards liquid fuel oxidation because of the synergistic effect of the electronic structure and low-coordinated jagged edges. Inflammation and cell-mediated immune activation are attributed to the pathogenesis and pathophysiology in depression. Our aim was to test the possible association between serum levels of neopterin and the development of post-stroke depression (PSD) in Chinese patients. The subjects were first-ever acute ischemic stroke patients who were hospitalized at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical University during the period from December 2012 to December 2013. Clinical information and stroke severity were collected at admission. Neurological and neuropsychological evaluations were conducted at the 6-month follow-up. Serum neopterin levels were measured using fluorometry and a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. Multivariate analyses were performed using logistic regression models. During the study period, 226 patients were included and finished the 6-month follow-up. Sixty-nine patients (30.5 %) were diagnosed as having major depression at 6 months. Patients with major depression showed higher levels of serum neopterin (21.6[IQR, 18.9-25.7]nmol/L vs. 14.6[IQR, 12.2-18.4]nmol/L, P < 0.0001) at admission. In multivariate analyses, serum neopterin was an independent predictor of PSD at 6 months [odds ratio (OR): 1.952 (95 % CI, 1.358-2.805), P < 0.0001]. With an AUC of 0.850 (95 % CI, 0.797-0.902), neopterin showed a significantly greater discriminatory ability as compared with high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, age, body mass index, and National Institutes of Health and Stroke Scale score. Neopterin is a novel, independent predictor of the development of depression 6 months after stroke. This indicated that the elevated neopterin levels may play a significant role in the pathology of depression and that the pathways leading to inflammation and cell-mediated immune activation warrant further exploration. Inflammatory processes have fundamental roles in depression. The primary purpose of this study was to assess the serum levels of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (Hs-CRP) and homocysteine (HCY) at admission to the presence of poststroke depression (PSD). From December 2012 to December 2013, first-ever acute ischemic stroke patients who were admitted to the hospital within the first 24 h after stroke onset were consecutively recruited and followed up for 6 months. Serum levels of Hs-CRP and HCY were tested at admission. Based on the symptoms, diagnoses of depression were made in accordance with DSM-IV criteria for depression at 6 months after stroke. Ninety-five patients (42.0 %) showed depression (major + minor) at 6 months after admission, and in 69 patients (30.5 %), this depression was classified as major. In the 69 patients with major depression, our results showed significantly higher Hs-CRP and HCY levels at admission than patients without major depression. After adjusting all other possible covariates, Hs-CRP and HCY still were independent predicators of PSD with adjusted OR of 1.332 (95 % CI, 1.230-1.452; P < 0.001) and 1.138 (95 % CI, 1.072-1.274; P < 0.001), respectively. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve values of Hs-CRP and HCY were 0.765 (95 % CI, 0.701-0.9825) and 0.684 (95 % CI, 0.610-0.757) for PSD, respectively. The prognostic accuracy of combined model (HCY and Hs-CRP) was higher compared to those biomarkers alone and other markers. Elevated serum levels of Hs-CRP and HCY at admission were found to be associated with depression 6 months after stroke, suggesting that these alterations might participate in the pathophysiology of depression symptoms in stroke patients. The effects of seasonal groundwater level fluctuations on the contamination characteristics of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) in soils, groundwater, and the microbial community were investigated at a typical petrochemical site in northern China. The measurements of groundwater and soil at different depths showed that significant TPH residue was present in the soil in this study area, especially in the vicinity of the pollution source, where TPH concentrations were up to 2600 mg kg. The TPH concentration in the groundwater fluctuated seasonally, and the maximum variation was 0.8 mg L. The highest TPH concentrations were detected in the silty clay layer and lied in the groundwater level fluctuation zones. The groundwater could reach previously contaminated areas in the soil, leading to higher groundwater TPH concentrations as TPH leaches into the groundwater. The coincident variation of the electron acceptors and TPH concentration with groundwater-table fluctuations affected the microbial communities in groundwater. The microbial community structure was significantly different between the wet and dry seasons. The canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) results showed that in the wet season, TPH, NO, Fe, TMn, S, and HCO were the major factors correlating the microbial community. A significant increase in abundance of operational taxonomic unit J1 (97 % similar to Dechloromonas aromatica sp.) was also observed in wet season conditions, indicating an intense denitrifying activity in the wet season environment. In the dry season, due to weak groundwater level fluctuations and low temperature of groundwater, the microbial activity was weak. But iron and sulfate-reducing were also detected in dry season at this site. As a whole, groundwater-table fluctuations would affect the distribution, transport, and biodegradation of the contaminants. These results may be valuable for the control and remediation of soil and groundwater pollution at this site and in other petrochemical-contaminated areas. This article explores the relationship between the tourist's cognition of the landscape experience and the environmental conservation efforts at three distinct tourist sites in mountains of southwestern China. A total of 1500 on-site questionnaire surveys were distributed and 1142 valid questionnaires were used for statistical analysis. Results from multi-group path analysis showed that both cognition of the cultural landscape experience and cognition of the natural landscape experience had positive impacts on environmental conservation behaviors and behavior intentions of tourists. Results from comparative analysis among the three tourist sites indicated that cognition of the cultural landscape experience had a stronger power to predict senior environmental conservation behaviors and behavior intentions than cognition of the natural landscape experience, whereas cognition of the natural landscape experience had more power to predict general environmental conservation behaviors and behavior intentions than cognition of the cultural landscape experience. A sub-acute toxicity test was performed to investigate the effects of molybdenum (Mo) on ovarian function. ICR adult female mice were exposed to Mo by free access to distilled water containing the Mo at 5, 10, 20, and 40 mg/L for 14 days. Compared to the control group, M II oocyte morphology, ovary index, and ovulation improved within the 5 mg/L Mo group, but were negatively affected by Mo at 40 mg/L. Morphologically abnormal ovarian mitochondria were observed at ≥ 20 mg/L. These alterations accompanied the changes in superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidise (GPx), and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in ovaries. In conclusion, Mo affects oocyte quality possibly through regulating ovarian oxidative stress in a dose-dependent manner. In order to investigate the effects of molybdenum (Mo) on sperm parameters and testicular oxidative stress, the ICR strain of adult mice were exposed to different doses of molybdenum for a sub-acute toxicity test. Compared to the control, our results showed that the sperm parameters, including the epididymis index, sperm motility, sperm count, and morphology, increased by a moderate dose of Mo (25 mg/L), but were negatively affected at high doses (≥ 100 mg/L). In addition, the changes of sperm parameters were accompanied with changes of the superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities, the glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities, and the malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in testes. The object of this study was to investigate the effect of molybdenum on the development of mouse preimplantation embryos cultured in vitro. Zygotes were flushed from one outbred mouse strain (Kunming), and then were cultured in potassium simplex optimized medium (KSOM) containing 0, 5, 10, 20, 40, 80, 120, and 160 µg/ml of molybdenum for 5 days until the mid-blastocyst stage. The addition of ≤ 20 µg/ml molybdenum did not affect the blastocyst and birth rates. Molybdenum at doses of 40 µg/ml and higher significantly decreased the cleavage, blastocyst and birth rates, the average cell number, and significantly increased the proportion of degenerative blastocysts. At 120 µg/ml molybdenum inhibited the blastocysts development to birth. At 160 µg/ml molybdenum caused overall developmental arrest (up to 16-cells) of embryos and their massive degeneration. In conclusion, molybdenum negatively affected the development of embryos in a dose-dependent manner. With lower doses (≤ 20 µg/ml), mouse embryos were not apparently damaged. With very high doses (≥ 40 µg/ml), embryo quality significantly decreased. This assessment of the effect of molybdenum on the preimplantation embryo is an initial survey of toxicological risk. Protein S -acylation, commonly known as palmitoylation, is a reversible posttranslational modification that catalyzes the addition of a saturated lipid group, often palmitate, to the sulfhydryl group of a Cys. Palmitoylation regulates enzyme activity, protein stability, subcellular localization, and intracellular sorting. Many plant proteins are palmitoylated. However, little is known about protein S -acyl transferases (PATs), which catalyze palmitoylation. Here, we report that the tonoplast-localized PAT10 is critical for development and salt tolerance in Arabidopsis thaliana. PAT10 loss of function resulted in pleiotropic growth defects, including smaller leaves, dwarfism, and sterility. In addition, pat10 mutants are hypersensitive to salt stresses. We further show that PAT10 regulates the tonoplast localization of several calcineurin B–like proteins (CBLs), including CBL2, CBL3, and CBL6, whose membrane association also depends on palmitoylation. Introducing a C192S mutation within the highly conserved catalytic motif of PAT10 failed to complement pat10 mutants, indicating that PAT10 functions through protein palmitoylation. We propose that PAT10-mediated palmitoylation is critical for vacuolar function by regulating membrane association or the activities of tonoplast proteins. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PURPOSE: To investigate the association of the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in chromosome 9p21.3 and chronic periodontitis in the Han Chinese population. METHODS: rs2891168, rs1333048 and rs1333042 genotypes of randomly grouped 172 healthy control subjects and 221 patients with chronic periodontitis(CP) were genotyped by TaqMan probe real -time fluorescent quantitative PCR. Statistical analysis of Chi-square test was performed using SPSS16.0 software package. RESULTS: Rs2891168 was closely associated with chronic periodontitis (P=0.003), and the frequency of G allele was higher in the patients compared with the control (48.36% vs 40.00%, OR = 1.209, 95% CI: 1.001-1.461, P= 0.045). Rs1333048 and rs1333042 were not associated with chronic periodontitis. CONCLUSIONS: There is SNP correlated with chronic periodontitis in chromosome 9p21.3, which indicates that the 9p21.3 locus may be the susceptible region. However, the mechanism remains unclear. The effects of amiodarone on ventricular electrophysiological parameters, especially the dispersion of ventricular repolarization, were investigated in a canine model of congestive heart failure (CHF). 2. Dogs were randomized to either a control, amiodarone, CHF, or CHF+amiodarone group. Dogs in the CHF and CHF+amiodarone groups underwent 4–5 weeks of rapid ventricular pacing; dogs in the control and amiodarone groups underwent sham operation only. Amiodarone (20 mg/kg per day) was administered orally, beginning on postoperative Day 1, in the treatment groups; ventricular electrophysiological variables were evaluated 4–5 weeks after rapid pacing or sham operation. 3. In CHF dogs, the transmural dispersion ventricular repolarization time (TDVRT) increased significantly. Amiodarone significantly decreased the TDVRT in CHF dogs. The ventricular fibrillation threshold (VFT) decreased in the CHF group. Amiodarone increased the VFT in CHF dogs. 4. The TDVRT increased in CHF dogs, but amiodarone decreased TDVRT and increased VFT in these dogs.
