Dental anatomy education for dental technology students should be developed in alignment with digital dental laboratory practices. We hypothesized that a virtually assisted sketching‐based dental anatomy teaching module could improve students' acquisition of skills essential for digital restoration design. The second‐year dental technology curriculum included a novel virtual technology‐assisted sketching‐based module for dental anatomy education. Pre‐ and post‐course assessments evaluated students' skill sets and knowledge bases. Computer‐aided design (CAD) scores were analyzed after one year to assess how the skills students developed through this module impacted their subsequent CAD performance. Participants who undertook the dental sketching‐based teaching module demonstrated significantly improved theoretical knowledge of dental anatomy, dental aesthetic perception, and spatial reasoning skills. A partial least squares structural equation model indicated that the positive effects of this module on subsequent CAD performance were indirectly mediated by dental aesthetic perception, spatial reasoning, and practice time. A virtually assisted sketching‐based dental anatomy teaching module significantly improved students' acquisition of skills and knowledge and positively mediated dental technology students' CAD performance. Purpose: To quantitatively evaluate the morphological parameters of meibomian glands (MGs) and lipid layer thickness (LLT) in patients with keratoconus (KC). Methods: In this prospective, cross-sectional study, 164 eyes of 164 keratoconus patients and 64 eyes of 64 age-matched control subjects were included. An advanced automatic MG analyzer was used to quantitatively measure the morphological and functional parameters of MGs. Morphological and functional parameters of MGs, LLT, and other ocular surface parameters were compared between the control and KC groups. Results: The mean meibomian gland diameter, length, square, and gland area ratio (GA) were all significantly decreased in the KC group (all P < 0.05), while no significant difference was observed in the gland tortuosity index (TI) and gland signal index (SI) between the KC and control groups (all P > 0.05). There was no significant difference in the number of total and incomplete blinking among patients with different stages of keratoconus (all P > 0.05). The gland diameter, square, and TI were all negatively associated with KC severity (all P < 0.05), while no significant difference was observed among all stages of KC in gland length, GA, and SI (all P > 0.05). Moreover, the LLTs were positively correlated with the gland diameter, square, GA, and TI and negatively correlated with anterior corneal curvature or KC severity (all P < 0.05). Conclusions: Atrophic morphological changes in the meibomian glands were closely correlated with the severity of keratoconus. Mesotrione (MET) belongs to the p-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase (HPPD)-inhibiting class of maize post-emergence herbicides, and it is safe for maize at the recommended doses, but the safety of MET differs among maize varieties in actual field production. In this study, four different maize varieties, ZD958, SN3, ST6 and POP16, were used as experimental materials to analyze their physiological responses to MET by comparing the activities of photosynthesis and antioxidant enzymes as well as the HPPD activity. The results showed that ZD958 was the most resistant to MET, followed by SN3 and ST6, and POP16 was the most sensitive to MET. The primary photosynthetic and antioxidant enzyme indices of all four maize varieties indicated that the resistant variety ZD958 was significantly higher than the sensitive variety POP16. HPPD activity was highest in ZD958 followed by SN3 and ST6 in both treated and control groups. POP16 exhibited the lowest HPPD activity. The results showed that the differences in resistance to MET in different types of maize varieties were closely related to the photosynthetic efficiency of plants and the HPPD activity. In this study, we aimed to demonstrate the feasibility and safety of navigating the ureters, middle sacral artery (MSA), and superior hypogastric nerve (SHN) using indocyanine green (ICG) and near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging during robot-assisted sacrocolpopexy (RSCP). Overall, 15 patients who underwent RSCP for apical vaginal prolapse were retrospectively enrolled. All patients underwent cystoscopic intraureteric instillation of 5 cc ICG (2.5 mg/mL) before RSCP and intravenous injection of 3 cc ICG during presacral dissection and mesh fixation. In all patients, the fluorescent right ureter was clearly identified in real time. The MSA was visualized on ICG-NIRF images in 80% (13/15) of patients. The mean time from ICG injection to MSA visualization was 43.7 s; the mean duration of the arterial phase was 104.3 s. Fluorescent SHN was detected in 73.3% (11/15) of patients. The time from ICG injection to SHN fluorescence was 48.4 s; the duration of fluorescence was 177.2 s. There was no transfusion, iatrogenic ureteral injury, or bowel or urinary dysfunction. Our results indicated that intraoperative ureter, MSA, and SHN mapping using ICG-NIRF images during RSCP is a valuable and safe technique to avoid iatrogenic ureteral, vascular, and neural injuries and to simplify surgical procedures. Chemotherapy in combination with immunotherapy has gradually shown substantial promise to increase T cell infiltration and antitumor efficacy. However, paclitaxel in combination with immune checkpoint inhibitor targeting PD-1/PD-L1 was only used to treat a small proportion of metastatic triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), and the clinical outcomes was very limited. In addition, this regimen cannot prevent paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy. Therefore, there was an urgent need for a novel target to enhance the antitumor activity of paclitaxel and alleviate chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in breast cancer. Here, we found that Dickkopf-1 (DKK1) expression was upregulated in multiply subtypes of human breast cancer specimens after paclitaxel-based chemotherapy. Mechanistic studies revealed that paclitaxel promoted DKK1 expression by inducing EGFR signaling in breast cancer cells, and the upregulation of DKK1 could hinder the therapeutic efficacy of paclitaxel by suppressing the infiltration and activity of CD8+ T cells in tumor microenvironment. Moreover, paclitaxel treatment in tumor-bearing mice also increased DKK1 expression through the activation of EGFR signaling in the primary sensory dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons, leading to the development of peripheral neuropathy, which is charactered by myelin damage in the sciatic nerve, neuropathic pain, and loss of cutaneous innervation in hindpaw skin. The addition of an anti-DKK1 antibody not only improved therapeutic efficacy of paclitaxel in two murine subtype models of breast cancer but also alleviated paclitaxel-induced peripheral neuropathy. Purpose: The multiple benefits of biochar use as a soil amendment has garnered global attention. Biochar addition is a crucial factor to improve soil biomass, soil enzyme activities, microbial biomass and improve soil nutrient utilization rate. However, the precise mechanism of effects of biochar addition on microbial community structure and diversity, as well as enzyme activity, remains unclear, especially for biochar obtained from different pyrolysis temperatures and variable quantities in which it is applied to soil. Materials and methods: We compiled and summarized the existing literature on the impacts of biochar on microorganisms and enzymes, with a specific on articles published over a five-year period (2018–2022). This review provides a comprehensive review of the relevant literature on enzyme activity, microbial diversity, community structure and abundance following biochar amendment in soil, and further elucidates the underlying mechanisms of biochar-induced effects on various factors. Results and discussion: The impact of biochar on soil microorganisms could be categorized into three aspects: (1) biochar, due to its porous structure and high surface area, functions as a sanctuary for soil microorganisms; (2) biochar provides essential elements such as carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) sources to soil microorganisms, and finally (3) biochar improves the survival conditions of soil microorganisms by modifying soil pH, CEC, aggregation, and enzyme activity. Importantly, biochar produced at lower pyrolysis temperatures provides valuable C and N for soil microorganisms. Whereas biochar obtained at higher pyrolysis temperatures contains much less active C and N. However, it still contributes to microbial nutrition through diverse mechanisms, e.g., nutrient immobilization and increased nutrients residence time through its bonding with soil labile C. Conclusions: This review found that the type of source material and pyrolysis temperature were the primary determinants in the impacts of biochar on soil microbial abundance, community structure, and diversity. This research aims to address the challenges of digital transformation in education by understanding the digital competence of teachers through a mixed-methods approach. The grounded theory is employed to develop the Teachers' Digital Competence Model (TDCM), which is structured around three facets: development, pedagogy, and ethics. Within these facets, six key dimensions were identified: digital ethics and safety, digital engagement, digital resources, digital teaching and learning management, digital assessment, and empowering students. The TDCM was operationalized by creating the Teachers' Digital Competence Self-assessment Instrument (TDCSI), utilizing a self-perceived scale to measure teachers' digital competence. The selection of TDCSI questionnaire items was carried out using item analysis and exploratory factor analysis, followed by confirmatory factor analysis to construct a structural equation model and assess the reliability and validity of the instrument. The TDCSI comprises 24 items with a Cronbach's α of 0.937 and factor loadings ranging from 0.535 to 0.834, demonstrating a reasonable structure. This study provides valuable insights into digital competence, offering a practical instrument for measuring teachers' digital proficiency. The findings are poised to inform future research on digital competence, as well as support endeavors to enhance teacher training and professional development programs in the context of educational digital transformation. Purpose: To evaluate the clinical outcomes, rotational stability, and footplate position of the toric Implantable Collamer Lens (TICL) (STAAR Surgical) in eyes with low vault and analyze factors related to rotational stability. Methods: This prospective observational study included 59 eyes of 59 patients with insufficient vault (< 250 µm). Postoperative rotation was defined as the difference between the achieved angle and the intraoperative fixation angle, and assessed with a digital anterior segment photograph after full mydriasis at 1 week and 1, 3, and 6 months postoperatively. Ultrasound biomicroscopy was used to determine the ciliary body morphology and position of the footplate. Correlation analysis was employed to identify the risk factors associated with TICL rotation at 6 months postoperatively. Results: At 6 months postoperatively, the mean central vault was 137.4 ± 61.0 µm (range: 40 to 236 µm), and the mean efficacy and safety indices were 1.04 and 1.15, respectively. The mean manifest refractive astigmatism decreased from −1.67 ± 0.82 diopters (D) preoperatively to −0.43 ± 0.33 D postoperatively, and the mean absolute rotation was 4.50 ± 3.08 degrees (range: 0 to 12.50 degrees). The angle of rotation was correlated with the preoperative spherical power (r = −0.318, P =.014), the average value of TICL footplates position (r = 0.284, P =.029), and postoperative astigmatism (r = −.469, P⩽.001). Conclusions: TICL implantation is predictable, safe, and effective in correcting myopic astigmatism in eyes with low vault. This paper demonstrates an acoustic metasurface for energy harvesting at tunable frequencies. The support structure of the metasurface was fabricated by additive manufacturing. The acoustic absorption coefficient and sound transmission loss of the metasurface can be tuned by optimization of various structural parameters, such as mass, mass size, prestress, membrane thickness, and array arrangement. The impedance tube was used to test the sound absorption ability of the fabricated metasurface, and the numerical simulation agreed well with the experiment, with a minimum acoustic absorption coefficient at ∼400 Hz. A PZT structure was designed and integrated into the acoustic metasurface, transforming the absorbed acoustic energy into electrical energy. Real-time acoustic energy harvesting was realized, and the peak voltage of 1.469 V was successfully monitored under the excitation of 410 Hz. For future applications, the energy harvesting efficiency can be further increased by improving the isolation components of the whole system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Photosensitizers cause oxidative damages in various biological systems under light. In this study, the method for analyzing photosensitizing activity of various dietary and medicinal sources was developed using 1-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-3,5-diphenylformazan (thiazolyl blue formazan; MTT-F) as a probe. Significant and quantitative decolorization of MTT-F was observed in the presence of photosensitizers used in this study under light but not under dark conditions. The decolorization of MTT-F occurred irradiation time-, light intensity-, and photosensitizer concentration-dependently. The decolorized MTT-F was reversibly reduced by living cells; the LC-MS/MS results indicated the formation of oxidized products with −1 m/z of base peak from MTT-F, suggesting that MTT-F decolorized by photosensitizers was its corresponding tetrazolium. The present results indicate that MTT-F is a reliable probe for the quantitative analysis of photosensitizing activities, and the MTT-F-based method can be an useful tool for screening and evaluating photosensitizing properties of various compounds used in many industrial purposes. Currently, the relationship between household size and incident dementia, along with the underlying neurobiological mechanisms, remains unclear. This prospective cohort study was based on UK Biobank participants aged ≥ 50 years without a history of dementia. The linear and non-linear longitudinal association was assessed using Cox proportional hazards regression and restricted cubic spline models. Additionally, the potential mechanisms driven by brain structures were investigated by linear regression models. We included 275,629 participants (mean age at baseline 60.45 years [SD 5.39]). Over a mean follow-up of 9.5 years, 6031 individuals developed all-cause dementia. Multivariable analyses revealed that smaller household size was associated with an increased risk of all-cause dementia (HR, 1.06; 95% CI 1.02–1.09), vascular dementia (HR, 1.08; 95% CI 1.01–1.15), and non-Alzheimer's disease non-vascular dementia (HR, 1.09; 95% CI 1.03–1.14). No significant association was observed for Alzheimer's disease. Restricted cubic splines demonstrated a reversed J-shaped relationship between household size and all-cause and cause-specific dementia. Additionally, substantial associations existed between household size and brain structures. Our findings suggest that small household size is a risk factor for dementia. Immobilization of graphene quantum dots (GQDs) on a solid support is crucial to prevent GQDs from aggregation in the form of solid powder and facilitate the separation and recycling of GQDs after use. Herein, spatially dispersed GQDs are post-synthetically coordinated within a two-dimensional (2D) and water-stable zirconium-based metal–organic framework (MOF). Unlike pristine GQDs, the obtained GQDs immobilized on 2D MOF sheets show photoluminescence in both suspension and dry powder. Chemical and photoluminescent stabilities of MOF-immobilized GQDs in water are investigated, and the use of immobilized GQDs in the photoluminescent detection of copper ions is demonstrated. Findings here shed the light on the use of 2D MOFs as a platform to further immobilize GQDs with various sizes and distinct chemical functionalities for a range of applications. Graphene quantum dots have versatile properties, but their luminescence can be quenched when the dots aggregate. Here, the authors immobilize graphene quantum dots on 2D MOF sheets and demonstrate their photoluminescence in suspension and as a dry powder, and show their application in copper ion sensing. Objective: Human gamma-delta T cells (γδ-T cells) play crucial roles in both innate and adaptive immune responses. However, much less is known about the immune status of γδT cells in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients. The objective of this study was to explore potential relationships between the frequency of γδ-T-cell subpopulations and disease activity, autoantibody titres and renal involvement in patients with SLE. Methods: Circulating γδ-T cells and their subsets (Vδ1+ T cells, Vδ2+ T cells and γδ-T-cell subpopulations defined by expression of surface receptors, including NKG2D, NKp30, NKp46 and PD-1), were identified via flow cytometry. Sixty active SLE patients were selected, including 41 new-onset and 19 relapsing cases. One hundred healthy controls (HCs) were enrolled as the control group. Percentages of these cell subsets in SLE patients and HCs and their relationships with disease activity were analysed. Twenty-two of the 41 new-onset SLE patients were assessed before and after treatment. Changes in the frequencies of these cell subsets and their relationships with renal involvement were also analysed. Results: Compared with that in HCs, the percentage of total γδ-T cells among CD3+ T cells in SLE patients was significantly lower. An imbalance in the proportions of Vδ1+ and Vδ2+ T cells among γδ-T cells was observed. The proportion of Vδ1+ T cells among γδ-T cells was significantly greater in SLE patients than in HCs, while the proportion of Vδ2+ T cells was significantly lower. Expression levels of PD-1, NKG2D, NKp30 and NKp46 in Vδ1+ T cells and Vδ2+ T cells from SLE patients were generally significantly increased, except for expression of NKG2D in Vδ2+ T cells. Moreover, Vδ2+ T cells, Vδ1+ T cells and Vδ1+PD-1+ T cells were associated with disease activity, and an increase in Vδ2+ T-cell frequency and a decrease in PD-1 expression by γδ-T cells might be associated with effective treatment. Interestingly, our results indicated that Vδ2+ T cells and their Vδ2+NKp30+ T-cell subpopulation might be associated with renal involvement in SLE. Conclusion: A broad range of anomalies in the proportions of γδ-T-cell subsets and γδ-T cells in SLE patients may be involved in the pathogenesis of SLE. There is a strong association between Vδ2+ T cells and their Vδ2+NKp30+ T-cell subpopulation and LN occurrence. Background: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer‐related death worldwide. This study aimed to establish novel multiclassification prediction models based on machine learning (ML) to predict the probability of malignancy in pulmonary nodules (PNs) and to compare with three published models. Methods: Nine hundred fourteen patients with PNs were collected from four medical institutions (A, B, C and D), which were organized into tables containing clinical features, radiologic features and laboratory test features. Patients were divided into benign lesion (BL), precursor lesion (PL) and malignant lesion (ML) groups according to pathological diagnosis. Approximately 80% of patients in A (total/male: 632/269, age: 57.73 ± 11.06) were randomly selected as a training set; the remaining 20% were used as an internal test set; and the patients in B (total/male: 94/53, age: 60.04 ± 11.22), C (total/male: 94/47, age: 59.30 ± 9.86) and D (total/male: 94/61, age: 62.0 ± 11.09) were used as an external validation set. Logical regression (LR), decision tree (DT), random forest (RF) and support vector machine (SVM) were used to establish prediction models. Finally, the Mayo model, Peking University People's Hospital (PKUPH) model and Brock model were externally validated in our patients. Results: The AUC values of RF model for MLs, PLs and BLs were 0.80 (95% CI: 0.73–0.88), 0.90 (95% CI: 0.82–0.99) and 0.75 (95% CI: 0.67–0.88), respectively. The weighted average AUC value of the RF model for the external validation set was 0.71 (95% CI: 0.67–0.73), and its AUC values for MLs, PLs and BLs were 0.71 (95% CI: 0.68–0.79), 0.98 (95% CI: 0.88–1.07) and 0.68 (95% CI: 0.61–0.74), respectively. The AUC values of the Mayo model, PKUPH model and Brock model were 0.68 (95% CI: 0.62–0.74), 0.64 (95% CI: 0.58–0.70) and 0.57 (95% CI: 0.49–0.65), respectively. Conclusions: The RF model performed best, and its predictive performance was better than that of the three published models, which may provide a new noninvasive method for the risk assessment of PNs. Excessive soil compaction is a major cause of environmental problems and reduced agricultural soil productivity. Soil conditions can affect soil compressive characteristics. The application of organic materials reduces soil susceptibility to compaction. However, the direct effect of incorporated organic matter and interactions among soil conditions and incorporated organic materials on soil compressive characteristics are poorly understood. In this study, uniaxial compressive experiments were conducted to determine the compression curves of repacked brown earth from Northeast China. The effect of variable levels of incorporated corn straw (20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 g kg−1) and soil conditions (moisture content 0.14, 0.18, and 0.22 g g−1, and bulk density 1.20, 1.30, 1.45, and 1.60 g cm−3) on the compressive characteristics were investigated. The results showed that compressive characteristics were directly affected by soil conditions and corn straw‐derived organic matter (p < 0.01). Compressive characteristics were also significantly influenced by the interaction between soil conditions and corn straw‐derived organic matter (p < 0.01). By constructing a Entropy Weight Method (EWM) Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution model (EWM‐TOPSIS), the conflicting indicators of soil resistance was comprehensively evaluated. The evaluation results indicated that moisture content at 0.14 g g−1, bulk density at 1.30 g cm−3 and corn straw‐derived organic matter at 34 g kg−1 was the optimal mode for soil resistance in our experiment. The results suggested that the interaction of soil conditions and incorporated organic matter should be considered to evaluate the susceptibility to compaction in the fields accurately. Highlights: A novel A/B-sites co-substitution strategy was introduced to enhance the performance and durability of Ruddlesden–Popper perovskite Sr3Fe2O7−δ (SF)-based air electrodes for reversible protonic ceramic cells (RePCCs). Simultaneous Sr-deficiency and Nb-substitution in SF result in Sr2.8Fe1.8Nb0.2O7−δ (D-SFN), offering improved structural stability under RePCC conditions by suppressing the formation of Sr3Fe2(OH)12 phase. The introduction of Sr-deficiency enhances oxygen vacancy concentration in D-SFN, promoting efficient oxygen transport within the material and contributing to excellent activity in RePCCs. Reversible protonic ceramic cells (RePCCs) hold promise for efficient energy storage, but their practicality is hindered by a lack of high-performance air electrode materials. Ruddlesden–Popper perovskite Sr3Fe2O7−δ (SF) exhibits superior proton uptake and rapid ionic conduction, boosting activity. However, excessive proton uptake during RePCC operation degrades SF's crystal structure, impacting durability. This study introduces a novel A/B-sites co-substitution strategy for modifying air electrodes, incorporating Sr-deficiency and Nb-substitution to create Sr2.8Fe1.8Nb0.2O7−δ (D-SFN). Nb stabilizes SF's crystal, curbing excessive phase formation, and Sr-deficiency boosts oxygen vacancy concentration, optimizing oxygen transport. The D-SFN electrode demonstrates outstanding activity and durability, achieving a peak power density of 596 mW cm−2 in fuel cell mode and a current density of − 1.19 A cm−2 in electrolysis mode at 1.3 V, 650 °C, with excellent cycling durability. Bioactive compounds were extracted from the brown seaweed Ecklonia stolonifera using subcritical water hydrolysis, a green extraction technique to valorize raw biomass. The reaction temperature for the hydrolysis ranged between 120 °C and 220 °C and the products were compared with those obtained by methanol extraction. Reaction temperature played a significant role in the release of active compounds such as sugars, phenolics, flavonoids, and antioxidants. The optimum extraction temperature was found to be 195 °C; at this temperature, the yield of reducing sugars was 61.83 ± 1.63 mg glucose, the total phenolic compound content was 26.02 ± 0.05 mg phloroglucinol, and the total flavonoid compound content was 8.40 ± 0.18 mg quercetin g−1 of E. stolonifera sample on a dry weight basis. Six different phenolic compounds were identified by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), of which gallic acid was the most abundant. Hydrolysates obtained using subcritical water extraction possessed strong antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. This paper proposes a two-party evolutionary game model of government and enterprise to solve the dilemma of industrial pollution control and explore the mode of government and enterprise collaborative governance. The local equilibrium points of the game model in four cases are calculated and analyzed, and the results show that government power alone cannot help enterprises achieve an ideal level of pollution reduction, and it is necessary to introduce public power for supervision. Based on the above, a tripartite evolutionary game model comprising the government, the public, and the enterprise is proposed. When the costs and benefits of the tripartite game players meet certain conditions, the system will evolve to a state of equilibrium (0,1,1). Following the current situation of economic development in China, the parameters of the two-party and tripartite evolutionary game are assigned, and the operating path and system's evolution trajectory of the two-party and tripartite industrial pollution control are simulated by Matlab R2016a software. It is indicated that whether the government participates in supervision or not, an enterprise will actively control pollution under strong public supervision, which can provide feasible suggestions for the selection of industrial pollution control policies. This study explores the impacts of multiple factors (noise, intra-motif coupling, and critical bifurcation parameter) on noise-induced motif synchrony and output regularity in three-node feed-forward-loops (FFLs), distinguishing between coherent FFLs with purely excitatory connections and incoherent FFLs formed by transitioning the intermediate layer to inhibitory connections. Our model utilizes the normal form of Hopf bifurcation (HB), which captures the generic structure of excitability observed in real systems. We find that the addition of noise can optimize motif synchrony and output regularity at the intermediate noise intensities. Our results also suggest that transitioning the excitatory coupling between the intermediate and output layers of the FFL to inhibitory coupling -- i.e., moving from the coherent to the incoherent FFL -- enhances output regularity but diminishes motif synchrony. This shift towards inhibitory connectivity highlights a trade-off between motif synchrony and output regularity and suggests that the structure of the intermediate layer plays a pivotal role in determining the motif's overall dynamics. Surprisingly, we also discover that both motifs achieve their best output regularity at a moderate level of intra-motif coupling, challenging the common assumption that stronger coupling, especially of the excitatory type, results in improved regularity. Our study provides valuable insights into functional differences in network motifs and offers a direct perspective relevant to the field of complex systems as we consider a normal-form model that pertains to a vast number of individual models experiencing HB. Background: Episodic memory loss is a prominent clinical manifestation of Alzheimer's disease (AD), which is closely related to tau pathology and hippocampal impairment. Due to the heterogeneity of brain neurons, the specific roles of different brain neurons in terms of their sensitivity to tau accumulation and their contribution to AD-like social memory loss remain unclear. Therefore, further investigation is necessary. Methods: We investigated the effects of AD-like tau pathology by Tandem mass tag proteomic and phosphoproteomic analysis, social behavioural tests, hippocampal electrophysiology, immunofluorescence staining and in vivo optical fibre recording of GCaMP6f and iGABASnFR. Additionally, we utilized optogenetics and administered ursolic acid (UA) via oral gavage to examine the effects of these agents on social memory in mice. Results: The results of proteomic and phosphoproteomic analyses revealed the characteristics of ventral hippocampal CA1 (vCA1) under both physiological conditions and AD-like tau pathology. As tau progressively accumulated, vCA1, especially its excitatory and parvalbumin (PV) neurons, were fully filled with mislocated and phosphorylated tau (p-Tau). This finding was not observed for dorsal hippocampal CA1 (dCA1). The overexpression of human tau (hTau) in excitatory and PV neurons mimicked AD-like tau accumulation, significantly inhibited neuronal excitability and suppressed distinct discrimination-associated firings of these neurons within vCA1. Photoactivating excitatory and PV neurons in vCA1 at specific rhythms and time windows efficiently ameliorated tau-impaired social memory. Notably, 1 month of UA administration efficiently decreased tau accumulation via autophagy in a transcription factor EB (TFEB)-dependent manner and restored the vCA1 microcircuit to ameliorate tau-impaired social memory. Oats (Avena sativa L. cv. Joyang), cultivated during June 2023 in experimental fields of Naju County, South Korea, exhibited crown rust symptoms resembling those caused by isolates of Puccinia coronata. Yellow urediniospores measuring 15.3 ± 3.2 × 13.6 ± 3.0 μm were identified through microscopic examination. Multilocus sequence typing of housekeeping genes in the DNA of this fungal isolate showed identity with P. coronata var. avenae f.sp. avenae, a pathogen of oats in South Korea previously lacking in taxonomic classification. This finding raises concerns of escalated crown rust disease in South Korea due to enhanced temperatures and humidity from climate shifts. The global antibiotic resistance crisis has drawn attention to the development of treatment methods less prone to inducing drug resistance, such as antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT). However, there is an increasing demand for new photosensitizers capable of efficiently absorbing in the near-infrared (NIR) region, enabling antibacterial treatment in deeper sites. Additionally, advanced strategies need to be developed to avert drug resistance stemming from prolonged exposure. Herein, we have designed a conjugated oligoelectrolyte, namely TTQAd, with a donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) backbone, enabling the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) under NIR light irradiation, and cationic adamantaneammonium groups on the side chains, enabling the host-guest interaction with curcubit[7]uril (CB7). Due to the amphiphilic nature of TTQAd, it could spontaneously form nanoassemblies in aqueous solution. Upon CB7 treatment, the positive charge of the cationic adamantaneammonium group was largely shielded by CB7, leading to a further aggregation of the nanoassemblies and a reduced antibacterial efficacy of TTQAd. Subsequent treatment with competitor guests enables the release of TTQAd and restores its antibacterial effect. The reversible supramolecular switch for regulating the antibacterial effect offers the potential for the controlled release of active photosensitizers, thereby showing promise in preventing the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria. Visual design form is an important factor affecting users' cognition of icons, which plays an important role in visual search and the perception of the status shown by icons. In the graphical user interface, the icon colour is regularly used to indicate the running state of a function. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of icon colour features on user perception and visual search performance under different background colours. There were three independent variables in the study, including background colour (white and black), icon polarity (positive and negative), and icon saturation (60, 80, and 100%). Thirty-one participants were recruited for the experiment. Task performance and eye movement results indicated that white background as well as positive polarity and 80% saturation icons brought the best performances. The findings of this study provide useful guidelines for designing more efficient and user-friendly icons and interfaces in the future. Insect odorant binding proteins (OBPs) were initially regarded as carriers of the odorants involved in chemosensation. However, it had been observed that a growing number of OBP genes exhibited broad expression patterns beyond chemosensory tissues. Here, an OBP gene (OBP31) was found to be highly expressed in the larval ventral nerve cord, adult brain and male reproductive organ of Spodoptera frugiperda. An OBP31 knockout strain (OBP31−/−) was generated by CRISPR/Cas9 mutagenesis. For OBP31−/−, the larvae needed longer time to pupate, but there was no difference in the pupal weight between OBP31−/− and wild type (WT). OBP31−/− larvae showed stronger phototaxis than the WT larvae, indicating the importance of OBP31 in light perception. For mating rhythm of adults, OBP31−/− moths displayed an earlier second mating peak. In the cross‐pairing of OBP31−/− and WT moths, the mating duration was longer, and hatchability was lower in OBP31−/− group and OBP31+/−♂ group than that in the WT group. These results suggested that OBP31 played a vital role in larval light perception and male reproductive process and could provide valuable insights into understanding the biological functions of OBPs that were not specific in chemosensory tissues. Ramie is one of the most ancient cellulose fiber crops, having been used for at least 6000 years. It is also one of the strongest and longest natural fine textile fibers in the world and is principally used for fabric production. Although ramie is very important and has a high economic value, the genetic basis of its yield-related and fiber quality traits remains poorly understood and is insufficient owing to the lack of assessment in multiple environments. Here, we evaluated the population structure and genomic variation in ramie based on resequencing of 319 core accessions and detected several candidate genes associated with fiber yield and quality traits by combining them with linkage mapping. We obtained approximately 3.49 million high-quality single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), 2,089,798 insertions and deletions (Indels), and 88,087 structure variations (SVs). The investigation of phenotypes for plant height (PL), stem diameter (SD), bark thickness (BT), fiber diameter (FD), fiber fineness (FF), and ramet number (RN) found these traits showed abundant variation and correlation. Several genetic loci and candidate genes were identified associated with three yield-related traits and fiber fineness. A gene within pleiotropic loci encoding NAC domain containing protein (BnNAC29) was found to be significantly correlated with stem diameter and bark thickness. Another variation of large fragment insertions and deletions in two candidate genes, BnVIT1 and BnAEP, may also be responsible for the increase of stem diameter and bark thickness, respectively. Favorable gene haplotypes were identified as having the same tendency in stem diameter and bark thickness. Moreover, we presumed that plant height-related genes had undergone selection from landraces to breeding cultivars, even though there was minor differentiation during domestication. Our study provides new insights into the genetic architecture of yield and fiber quality traits in ramie. Moreover, the identification of fiber yield-related genetic loci and large-scale genomic variation represent valuable resources for genomics-assisted breeding of this fiber crop. Purpose: Colchicine, a multipotent anti-inflammatory drug, has been reported to alleviate cardiac remodeling and improve cardiac function after acute myocardial infarction (AMI). However, the underlying mechanism remains incompletely understood. Because neutrophils extracellular traps (NETs) enhance inflammation and participate in myocardial ischemia injury, and colchicine can inhibit NETosis, we thus aimed to determine whether colchicine exerts cardioprotective effects on AMI via suppressing NETs. Methods: Adult C57BL/6 mice were subjected to permanent ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery and treated with colchicine (0.1 mg/kg/day) or Cl-amidine (10 mg/kg/day) for 7 or 28 days after AMI. Cardiac function was evaluated by echocardiography, and NETs detected by immunofluorescence. ROS production was detected using 2′,7′-dichlorodihydrofluorescein diacetates (DCFH-DA) fluorometry. Intracellular Ca2+ concentration was assessed by a fluorometric ratio technique. Results: We found that colchicine treatment significantly increased mice survival (89.8% in the colchicine group versus 67.9% in control, n = 32 per group; log-rank test, p < 0.05) and improved cardiac function at day 7 (left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF): 28.0 ± 9.2% versus 12.6 ± 3.9%, n = 8 per group; p < 0.001) and at day 28 (LVEF: 26.2 ± 7.2% versus 14.8 ± 6.7%, n = 8 per group; p < 0.001) post-AMI. In addition, the administration of colchicine inhibited NETs formation and inflammation. Furthermore, colchicine inhibited NETs formation by reducing NOX2/ROS production and Ca2+ influx. Moreover, prevention of NETs formation with Cl-amidine significantly alleviated AMI-induced cardiac remodeling. Spiders are representative arthropods of adaptive radiation. The high-quality genomes have only been reported in several web weaver spider species, leaving the wandering spiders' genomic information scarce. The pond wolf spider, Pardosa pseudoannulata, is a representative species in the retrolateral titial apophysis (RTA) clade. We present a chromosome-level P. pseusoannulata genome assembly of 2.42 Gb in size with a scaffold N50 of 169.99 Mb. Hi-C scaffolding assigns 94.83% of the bases to 15 pseudo-chromosomes. The repeats account for 52.79% of the assembly. The assembly includes 96.2% of the complete arthropod universal single-copy orthologs. Gene annotation predicted 24,530 protein-coding genes with a BUSCO score of 95.8% complete. We identified duplicate clusters of Hox genes and an expanded cuticle protein gene family with 243 genes. The expression patterns of CPR genes change in response to environmental stresses such as coldness and insecticide exposure. Deltamethrin, an important pyrethroid insecticide, is frequently detected in human samples. This study aims to assess the potential effects of deltamethrin on human health and investigate the patterns of residue enrichment and elimination in 112 healthy laying hens. These hens were administered 20 mg·kg−1 deltamethrin based on their body weight. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) was used to investigate the residue enrichment pattern and elimination pattern of deltamethrin in the hens. The results indicated a significant increase in the concentration of deltamethrin in chicken manure during the treatment period. By the 14th day of administration, the concentration of deltamethrin in the stool reached 13,510.9 ± 172.24 μg·kg−1, with a fecal excretion rate of 67.56%. The pulmonary deltamethrin concentration was the second highest at 3844.98 ± 297.14 μg·kg−1. These findings suggest that chicken feces contain substantial amounts of deltamethrin after 14 days of continuous administration, and that it can easily transfer to the lungs. After 21 days of drug withdrawal, the residual concentration of deltamethrin in the fat of laying hens was 904.25 ± 295.32 μg·kg−1, with a half-life of 17 days and a slow elimination rate. In contrast, the lungs showed relatively low elimination half-lives of 0.2083 days, indicating faster elimination of deltamethrin in this tissue. These results highlight differences in the rate of deltamethrin elimination in different tissues during drug withdrawal. The fat of laying hens exhibited the highest residue of deltamethrin and the slowest elimination rate, while the lungs showed the fastest elimination rate. Purpose: Acromegalic patients with giant growth hormone-secreting pituitary adenomas (GHPAs) (≥ 40 mm) are relatively rare, and their clinical characteristics and treatment outcome data are limited. This study aims to analyze the clinical practice experience of giant GHPAs. Methods: Sixty-seven acromegalic patients with giant GHPAs and 67 patients with macro GHPAs (10–39 mm), matched for age and gender from the same hospital during the same period, were retrospectively recruited. The clinical characteristics, treatment, and outcomes were analyzed. Results: Enlargement of the extremities and facial features were the most common symptoms in most patients (92.5%). Compared with the macroadenoma group, more frequent visual impairment (86.6% vs. 25.4%, P < 0.001) and gonadal axis dysfunction (49.3% vs. 34.3%, P = 0.008), higher preoperative fasting GH, nadir GH after OGTT and IGF-1 levels, and a higher proportion of extrasellar tumor invasion were seen in the giant adenoma group. As the adenoma size increases, the total resection rate decreases, and postoperative complications and multimodal treatment strategies increase significantly. Fasting and nadir GH levels remained higher at 1 week postoperatively, and there were more surgical complications and cases of anterior hypopituitarism in the giant group. After a median follow-up of 36 months, 12 patients (36.4%) in the giant GHPA group and 17 (36.2%) in the macro GHPA group achieved biochemical remission. Other factors such as age of onset, age of diagnosis, delayed diagnosis time, metabolic complications, p53 positive rate, and Ki-67 index showed no significant difference between the two groups. Conclusions: With aggressive multimodal therapy, the biochemical remission rate of acromegalic patients with giant GHPAs is comparable to that of patients with macro adenoma. BACKGROUND: Excessive use of chemical insecticides raises concerns about insecticide resistance, urging the development of novel insecticides. Peptide neurotoxins from spider venom are an incredibly rich source of ion channel modulators with potent insecticidal activity. A neurotoxin U1‐Atypitoxin‐Cs1a from the spider Calommata signata was annotated previously. It was of interest to investigate its insecticidal activity and potential molecular targets. RESULTS: Cs1a was heterologously expressed, purified and pharmacologically characterized here. The recombinant neurotoxin inhibited high‐voltage‐activated calcium channel currents with an median inhibitory concentration (IC50) value of 0.182 ± 0.026 μm on cockroach DUM neurons and thus was designated as ω‐Atypitoxin‐Cs1a. The recombinant Cs1a was toxic to three insect pests of agricultural importance, Nilaparvata lugens, Spodoptera frugiperda and Plutella xylostella with median lethal concentration (LD50) values of 0.121, 0.172 and 0.356 nmol g−1, respectively, at 24 h postinjection. Cs1a was equivalently toxic to both insecticide‐susceptible and ‐resistant insects. Cs1a exhibited low toxicity to Danio rerio with an LD50 of 2.316 nmol g−1. CONCLUSION: Our results suggest that ω‐Atypitoxin‐Cs1a is a potent CaV channel inhibitor and an attractive candidate reagent for pest control and resistance management. © 2023 Society of Chemical Industry. Background: Δ9-Tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) is a principal psychoactive extract of Cannabis sativa and has been traditionally used as palliative medicine for neuropathic pain. Cannabidiol (CBD), an extract of hemp species, has recently attracted increased attention as a cancer treatment, but Δ9-THC is also requiring explored pharmacological application. Objective: This study evaluated the pharmacological effects of Δ9-THC in two human colorectal cancer cell lines. We investigated whether Δ9-THC treatment induces cell death in human colorectal cancer cells. Methods: We performed an MTT assay to determine the pharmacological concentration of Δ9-THC. Annxein V and Western blot analysis confirmed that Δ9-THC induced apoptosis in colorectal cancer cells. Metabolic activity was evaluated using MitoTracker staining and ATP determination. We investigated vesicle formation by Δ9-THC treatment using GW9662, known as a PPARγ inhibitor. Results: The MTT assay showed that treatment with 40 μM Δ9-THC and above inhibited the proliferation of colorectal cancer cells. Multiple intracytoplasmic vesicles were detected upon microscopic observation, and fluorescence-activated cell sorting analysis showed cell death via G1 arrest. Δ9-THC treatment increased the expression of cell death marker proteins, including p53, cleaved PARP-1, RIP1, and RIP3, suggesting that Δ9-THC induced the death of colorectal cancer cells. Δ9-THC treatment also reduced ATP production via changes in Bax and Bcl-2. Δ9-THC regulated intracytoplasmic vesicle formation by modulating the expression of PPARγ and clathrin, adding that antiproliferative activity of Δ9-THC was also affected. Conclusion: In conclusion, Δ9-THC regulated two functional mechanisms, intracellular vesicle formation and cell death. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a chemical obtained from Cannabis sativa; it has therapeutic effects on anxiety and cognition and anti-inflammatory properties. Although pharmacological applications of CBD in many types of tumors have recently been reported, the mechanism of action of CBD is not yet fully understood. In this study, we perform an mRNA-seq analysis to identify the target genes of CBD after determining the cytotoxic concentrations of CBD using an MTT assay. CBD treatment regulated the expression of genes related to DNA repair and cell division, with metallothionein (MT) family genes being identified as having highly increased expression levels induced by CBD. It was also found that the expression levels of MT family genes were decreased in colorectal cancer tissues compared to those in normal tissues, indicating that the downregulation of MT family genes might be highly associated with colorectal tumor progression. A qPCR experiment revealed that the expression levels of MT family genes were increased by CBD. Moreover, MT family genes were regulated by CBD or crude extract but not by other cannabinoids, suggesting that the expression of MT family genes was specifically induced by CBD. A synergistic effect between CBD and MT gene transfection or zinc ion treatment was found. In conclusion, MT family genes as novel target genes could synergistically increase the anticancer activity of CBD by regulating the zinc ions in human colorectal cancer cells. Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common malignant tumour arising from the basal cells of the epidermis or follicular structures. The aetiology of BCC is a multifactorial combination of genotype, phenotype and environmental factors. The pathogenesis of BCC remains unclear, with diverse and complex signalling pathways involved. ARHGAP40 is a Rho GTPase‐activating protein (RhoGAP). Rho GTPases play a crucial role in the formation and progression of numerous cancers. The expression levels and roles of ARHGAP40 in BCC have not been explored. Here, ARHGAP40 expression was detected in a set of formalin‐fixed, paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) samples of basal cell carcinoma, paracancerous normal skin and benign skin lesions. The epigenetic mechanism that downregulates ARHGAP40 in basal cell carcinoma was investigated. We found that ARHGAP40 is expressed in normal basal cells and most benign skin lesions but lost in most basal cell carcinomas. We detected CpG island hypermethylation at the promoter‐associated region of ARHGAP40. Our data suggest that ARHGAP40 is downregulated in BCC due to hypermethylation. ARHGAP40 protein is a potential novel biomarker for distinguishing trichoblastoma from BCC. This report is preliminary, and extensive research into the role of ARHGAP40 in BCC carcinogenesis and its potential as a treatment target is required in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the goal of "carbon peaking and carbon neutralization", it is an inevitable trend for investing smart grid to promote the large-scale grid connection of renewable energy. Smart grid investment has a significant driving effect (derivative value), and evaluating this value can help to more accurately grasp the external effects of smart grid investment and support the realization of industrial linkage value with power grid investment as the core. Therefore, by analyzing the characterization of the derivative value of smart grid driven by investment, this paper constructs the evaluation index system of the derivative value of smart grid investment including 11 indicators. Then, the hybrid evaluation model of the derivative value of smart grid investment is developed based on anti-entropy weight (AEW), level based weight assessment (LBWA), and measurement alternatives and ranking according to the compromise solution (MARCOS) techniques. The results of case analysis show that for SG investment, the value of sustainable development can better reflect its derivative value, and when smart grid performs poorly in promoting renewable energy consumption, improving primary energy efficiency, and improving its own fault resistance, the driving force of its investment for future sustainable development will decline significantly, making the grid investment lack derivative value. In addition, smart grid investment needs to pay attention to the economy of investment, which is an important guarantee to ensure that the power grid has sufficient and stable sources of investment funds. Finally, compared with three comparison models, the proposed hybrid multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) model can better improve the decision-making efficiency on the premise of ensuring robustness. Objective: To investigate the role of MRI in the diagnosis and classification of fetal microtia. Methods: Ninety-five fetuses with suspected microtia based on ultrasound and MRI performed within 1 week were enrolled in this study. The diagnosis based on MRI was compared with postnatal diagnosis. Among the microtia cases suspected on the basis of MRI, mild and severe cases were further classified. In addition, external auditory canal (EAC) atresia was evaluated by MRI in 29 fetuses with a gestational age > 28 weeks, and the accuracy of MRI in the diagnosis and classification of microtia was determined. Results: Of 95 fetuses, 83 were considered to have microtia on the basis of MRI, 81 were confirmed to have microtia, and 14 were found to be normal according to postnatal diagnosis. Among 190 external ears in 95 fetuses, 40 ears were suspected to have mild microtia, and 52 ears were suspected to have severe microtia on the basis of MRI. According to the postnatal diagnosis, mild and severe microtia were confirmed in 43 and 49 ears, respectively. Among the 29 fetuses with a gestational age > 28 weeks, 23 ears were suspected to have EAC atresia according to MRI and 21 ears were ultimately confirmed to have EAC atresia. The accuracy of MRI in diagnosing microtia and EAC atresia was 93.68% and 93.10%, respectively. Conclusion: MRI shows good performance in diagnosing fetal microtia and has the potential to evaluate its severity on the basis of classification and EAC status. Clinical relevance statement: This study was aimed at investigating the role of MRI in the diagnosis and classification of fetal microtia. MRI shows good performance and can help evaluate microtia severity and EAC atresia, thus allowing for better clinical management. Treatment is challenging due to the heterogeneity of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Chromatin regulators (CRs) are important in epigenetics and are closely associated with HCC. We obtained HCC-related expression data and relevant clinical data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) databases. Then, we crossed the differentially expressed genes (DEGs), immune-related genes and CRs to obtain immune-related chromatin regulators differentially expressed genes (IRCR DEGs). Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) Cox regression analysis was performed to select the prognostic gene and construct a risk model for predicting prognosis in HCC, followed by a correlation analysis of risk scores with clinical characteristics. Finally, we also carried out immune microenvironment analysis and drug sensitivity analysis, the correlation between risk score and clinical characteristics was analyzed. In addition, we carried out immune microenvironment analysis and drug sensitivity analysis. Functional analysis suggested that IRCR DEGs was mainly enriched in chromatin-related biological processes. We identified and validated PPARGC1A, DUSP1, APOBEC3A, AIRE, HDAC11, HMGB2 and APOBEC3B as prognostic biomarkers for the risk model construction. The model was also related to immune cell infiltration, and the expression of CD48, CTLA4, HHLA2, TNFSF9 and TNFSF15 was higher in high-risk group. HCC patients in the high-risk group were more sensitive to Axitinib, Docetaxel, Erlotinib, and Metformin. In this study, we construct a prognostic model of immune-associated chromatin regulators, which provides new ideas and research directions for the accurate treatment of HCC. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
