In this experiment, the excellent coordination ability of sulfur-containing ligands was utilized. Diphenylacetyl disulfide and 3,3′-diaminodiphenyl sulfone were selected as ligands, and Cu(NO3)2·3H2O, Ni(NO3)2·6H2O and ZnCl2 were reacted under one-pot conditions to synthesize three mononuclear complexes: [C4H18CuO12S2](I), [C12H18N4NiO11S](II) and [C24H24Cl2N4O4S2Zn](III). Complex (I) belongs to the orthorhombic crystal system with space group Pbca, while complexes (II) and (III) belong to the monoclinic crystal system with space groups P21/n and P2/n. The crystal structure of the complex was determined using X-ray diffraction (XRD). The structure of the complex was analyzed using infrared Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV–Vis), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and electrospray mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), and the thermal stability and composition of the complex were detected via thermogravimetry (TGA). In terms of application, the biological activity of complexes (I)–(III) in human cancer cell lines (lung cancer A549, liver cancer SMMC-7721, breast cancer MDA-MB-231, and colon cancer SW480) was tested using the MTS method. Conventional precast structures often face the challenge of post-earthquake repair, especially at beam–column joints. A new type of precast concrete beam–column joint with a replaceable energy dissipation device consisting of cross-shaped and H-shaped steel was proposed in this paper, which was characterized by the use of replaceable energy-dissipating devices to improve the seismic capacity. Based on the previous test results of the group, this paper used ABAQUS to investigate how factors like the thickness of the H-shaped steel webs and the size and number of openings affected the seismic performance of precast concrete beam–column joints with replaceable energy dissipation devices. The results showed that (1) an increase in the H-shaped steel's thickness in the REDDC could improve the load-carrying capacity of the node, but the energy dissipation capacity was weakened, and (2) the length and width of the H-shaped steel openings had almost no effect on the ultimate load-carrying capacity within a certain range, but increasing the size of the openings could improve the energy dissipation capacity and reduce the ultimate load-carrying capacity at the same time. Compared with the length of the openings, the width of the openings had a more significant impact on the energy dissipation capacity. The recyclable silver-decorated magnetic Fe3O4/tannin composites Fe3O4@TA-Ag (MFTA) were prepared by hydrothermal method and characterized by XRD, XPS, TEM, and UV–Vis techniques. The catalytic and antimicrobial activities of the MFTA composites were evaluated, and it was found that the MFTA3 composite demonstrated the highest catalytic activity for the reduction of 4-nitrophenol, with a reaction rate constant of 1.039 min−1, in comparison with the other prepared composites. Furthermore, the MFTA3 composites demonstrated significant antibacterial activity toward both Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, with inhibition zones of 13.7 and 10.2 mm, respectively. Background: GM3 synthase deficiency (GM3SD) is an autosomal recessive disorder resulting from mutations in the ST3GAL5 gene. It is characterized by intellectual disability, microcephaly, psychomotor and developmental delay, hearing and visual impairments, and changes in skin pigmentation. This study aims to broaden the genetic mutation spectrum of GM3SD through the report of a de novo mutation and a comprehensive summary of GM3SD phenotype to aid in genetic counseling and prenatal diagnosis. Results: Compound heterozygous variants in ST3GAL5 (NM_003896.4: c.1000delC, p.Arg334Glufs*15 and c.207-1G > T, p.Cys70Glufs*81) were identified via trio-whole exome sequencing (trio-WES) and confirmed pathogenic through functional experiments. Notably, c.207-1G > T was a newly discovered variant. Additionally, previously reported GM3SD mutations were classified into R288X and non-R288X, revealing that R288X mutations were more likely to manifest developmental, emotional abnormalities, and severe feeding difficulties. Conclusions: This study reveals a novel mutation in ST3GAL5 and provides a comprehensive overview of GM3SD phenotype, aiding in the diagnosis and genetic counseling of GM3SD in clinical practice. Oxidative stress is crucial in ulcerative colitis (UC) and colitis‐associated colorectal cancer (CAC). Intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) are an important component of the intestinal barrier. In previous studies, we have demonstrated that suppressing microRNA‐222‐3p (miR‐222‐3p) can protect against oxidative stress in IECs, which ameliorates colonic injuries in UC mice and prevents the conversion of UC to CAC. In this case, we hope to explore whether moxibustion can alleviate UC and CAC by inhibiting miR‐222‐3p based on mouse models of UC and CAC. After herb‐partitioned moxibustion (HPM) intervention, the disease activity index (DAI) and colon macroscopic damage index (CMDI) were significantly reduced in UC mice, and the number and volume of intestinal tumors were decreased considerably in CAC mice. Meanwhile, we found that HPM suppressed miR‐222‐3p expression and upregulated the mRNA and protein expression of Brahma‐related gene 1 (BRG1), nuclear factor erythroid 2‐related factor 2 (Nrf2), heme oxygenase‐1 (HO‐1), while inhibiting Kelch‐like ECH‐associated protein 1 (Keap1) expression in IECs of UC and CAC mice. With changes in reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione peroxidase (GSH‐Px), and inflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL)‐1β and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)‐α), we verified that HPM protects against oxidative stress and inflammation in IECs of UC and CAC mice. The effect of HPM was inhibited in miR‐222‐3p overexpression mice, further demonstrating that the protective effect of HPM on UC and CAC mice was through inhibiting miR‐222‐3p. Background: Osteoporosis with pathological fractures is a significant public health issue, contributing to morbidity, disability, diminished quality of life, and increased mortality. Understanding mortality trends related to this condition is crucial for developing effective interventions to reduce mortality and improve healthcare outcomes. This study aimed to analyze trends and causes of death associated with osteoporosis and pathological fractures in the United States using a multi-cause approach. Methods: Annual death and age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) data from 1999 to 2020 were obtained from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) mortality database. Death certificates listing ICD-10 M82 (osteoporosis with pathological fracture) as an underlying or related cause of death were analyzed. Epidemiological data were analyzed, and the ASMR data were calculated for each year, and trends were assessed using the Cochran-Armitage trend test. Results: From 1999 to 2020, there were 40,441 deaths related to osteoporosis with pathological fractures in the United States, with a female-to-male ratio of 5.6:1. Among these, 12,820 deaths (31.7%) listed osteoporosis with pathological fractures as the underlying cause of death (UCD), yielding a female-to-male ASMR ratio of approximately 5.0-7.7:1. When classified as a non-UCD, the ASMR ratio was approximately 4.8–6.2:1. At the same time, we found that the total number of deaths classified as UCD and multiple causes of death (MCD), but the trend ratio of the two groups in different years did not change statistically significant (P > 0.05), and the ASMR of both groups showed a downward trend. The UCD-to-MCD ratio increased between 1999 and 2007, then decreased from 2007 to 2020. As MCD, the number of female deaths was more than that of male, and both showed a decreasing trend, but there was no statistical significance in the change of trend ratio in different years (P > 0.05). Deaths were predominantly concentrated in individuals over 75 years of age, with those over 84 years being the most affected. The number of deaths in different age groups showed a decreasing trend, and the change of trend ratio in different years was statistically significant (P < 0.05). White individuals had the highest number of deaths. The leading causes of death were heart diseases, chronic lower respiratory diseases, and alzheimer's disease. In addition, the number of deaths of patients with prostate cancer and breast cancer showed a significant downward trend, and the change of trend ratio between the two groups in different years was statistically significant (P < 0.05). Conclusions: Although mortality from osteoporosis with pathological fractures is decreasing, anti-osteoporosis therapy remains essential for elderly patients. Healthcare providers should remain vigilant for potential complications, including malignant neoplasms, and ensure timely diagnosis and treatment to further reduce mortality in this population. Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is one of the most prevalent malignancies with a 5‐year survival rate of only 15% in patients with advanced diseases. Tumor protein 63 (TP63), a master transcription factor (TF) in ESCC, cooperates with other TFs to regulate enhancers and/or promoters of target oncogenes, which in turn promotes tumorigenesis. TAR‐DNA‐binding protein‐43 (TDP‐43) is an RNA/DNA binding protein with elevated expression in several neoplasms. However, it remains unclear how TDP‐43 contributes to ESCC progression. In this study, TDP‐43 is identified as a novel oncogene with markedly upregulated expression in ESCC tissues through profiling expression levels of one hundred and fifty canonical RNA binding protein (RBP) genes in multiple ESCC patient cohorts. Importantly, TDP‐43 boosted TP63 expression via post‐transcriptionally stabilizing TP63 mRNAs as a RBP and promoting TP63 transcription as a TF binding to the TP63 promoter in ESCC cells. In contrast, the master TF TP63 also bound to the TDP‐43 promoter, accelerated TDP‐43 transcription, and caused a noticeable increase in TDP‐43 expression in ESCC cells. TIMM9 has been identified as a mediator of essential functions in mitochondria, but its association with pan-cancer is poorly understood. We herein employed bioinformatics, computational chemistry techniques and experiments to investigate the role of TIMM9 in pan-cancer. Our analysis revealed that overexpression of TIMM9 was significantly associated with tumorigenesis, pathological stage progression, and metastasis. Missense mutations (particularly the S49L variant), copy number variations (CNV) and methylation alterations in TIMM9 were found to be associated with poor cancer prognosis. Moreover, TIMM9 was positively related with cell cycle progression, mitochondrial and ribosomal function, oxidative phosphorylation, TCA cycle activity, innate and adaptive immunity. Additionally, we discovered that TIMM9 could be regulated by cancer-associated signaling pathways, such as the mTOR pathway. Background: As an important forage in arid and semi-arid regions, Agropyron cristatum provides livestock with exceptionally high nutritional value. Additionally, A. cristatum exhibits outstanding genetic characteristics to endure drought and disease. Therefore, rich genetic diversity serves as a cornerstone for the improvement of major food crops. The purposes of this study were to systematically describe mitogenome of A.cristatum and preliminarily analyze its internal variations. Result: The A. cristatum mitogenome was a single-ring molecular structure of 381,065 bp that comprised 52 genes, including 35 protein-coding, 3 rRNA and 14 tRNA genes. Among these, two pseudoprotein-coding genes and multiple copies of tRNA genes were observed. A total of 320 repetitive sequences was found to cover more than 10% of the mitogenome (105 simple sequences, 185 dispersed and 30 tandem repeats), which led to a large number of fragment rearrangements in the mitogenome of A. cristatum. Leucine was the most frequent amino acid (n = 1087,10.8%) in the protein-coding genes of A. cristatum mitogenome, and the highest usage codon was ATG (initiation codon). The number of A/T changes at the third base of the codon was much higher than that of G/C. Among 23 PCGs, the range of Pi values is from 0.0021 to 0.0539, with an average of 0.013. Additionally, 81 RNA editing sites were predicted, which were considerably fewer than those reported in other plant mitogenomes. Most of the RNA editing site base positions were concentrated at the first and second codon bases, which were C to T transitions. Moreover, we identified 95 sequence fragments (total length of 34, 343 bp) that were transferred from the chloroplast to mitochondria genes, introns, and intergenic regions. The stability of the tRNA genes was maintained during this process. Selection pressure analysis of 23 protein-coding genes shared by 15 Poaceae plants, showed that most genes were subjected to purifying selection during evolution, whereas rps4, cob, mttB, and ccmB underwent positive selection in different plants. Finally, a phylogenetic tree was constructed based on 22 plant mitogenomes, which showed that Agropyron plants have a high degree of independent heritability in Triticeae. Conclusion: The findings of this study provide new data for a better understanding of A. cristatum genes, and demonstrate that mitogenomes are suitable for the study of plant classifications, such as those of Agropyron. Moreover, it provides a reference for further exploration of the phylogenetic relationships within Agropyron species, and establishes a theoretical basis for the subsequent development and utilization of A. cristatum plant germplasm resources. Purpose: FTY720 is an agonist of the Sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) receptor 1, 3, 4, and 5 and a functional antagonist of the S1P1 receptor; it can inhibit the activation of mTOR/NF-κB and has therapeutic potential in inflammatory disease. This study was designed to determine the role of the inflammatory process in diabetic retinopathy and investigate the effect of FTY720 on high glucose (HG)-induced rat retinal Müller cells (rMC-1 cells). Methods: In the present study, the role of FTY720 in inhibiting inflammation and its underlying mechanism were investigated. rMC-1 cells were treated without or with HG, FTY720, CQ, or RAP. Cell viability was examined by CCK-8 assay; cell activation was assessed by western blot analysis and IF staining; and cell migration was evaluated by a scratch wound healing assay. The expression of inflammation-associated proteins and autophagy-related proteins was evaluated by transmission electron microscopy, AO staining, MDC-labeled autophagic vacuoles, western blot analysis and ELISA. Results: Western blot analysis and IF staining showed that the level of the rMC-1 cell marker GFAP was decreased, while GS was increased in FTY720 groups compared to that in the HG group. The healing assay results showed that compared with HG treatment, FTY720 treatment significantly reduced cell migration. Western blot analysis, ELISA and IF staining showed that compared with HG, FTY720 reduced proinflammatory proteins by inhibiting the mechanistic target of the mTOR/NF-κB signaling pathway and regulating autophagy. Conclusions: This study suggests that in an HG-induced rMC-1 cell model, FTY720 significantly inhibited the production of inflammatory cytokines by inhibiting mTOR/NF-κB signaling and regulating autophagy. These findings were associated with a decrease in rMC-1 cell injury, suggesting that FTY720 or related compounds may be valuable modulators of HG-induced retinal injury. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: For women who have experienced recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL), it is crucial not only to treat them but also to evaluate the risk of recurrence. The study aimed to develop a risk predictive model to predict the subsequent early pregnancy loss (EPL) in women with RPL based on preconception data. Methods: A prospective, dynamic population cohort study was carried out at the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University. From September 2019 to December 2022, a total of 1050 non-pregnant women with RPL were participated. By December 2023, 605 women had subsequent pregnancy outcomes and were randomly divided into training and validation group by 3:1 ratio. In the training group, univariable screening was performed on RPL patients with subsequent EPL outcome. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression and multivariate logistic regression were utilized to select variables, respectively. Subsequent EPL prediction model was constructed using generalize linear model (GLM), gradient boosting machine (GBM), random forest (RF), and deep learning (DP). The variables selected by LASSO regression and multivariate logistic regression were then established and compared using the best prediction model. The AUC, calibration curve, and decision curve (DCA) were performed to assess the prediction performances of the best model. The best model was validated using the validation group. Finally, a nomogram was established based on the best predictive features. Results: In the training group, the GBM model achieved the best performance with the highest AUC (0.805). The AUC between the variables screened by the LASSO regression (16-variables) and logistic regression (9-variables) models showed no significant difference (AUC: 0.805 vs. 0.777, P = 0.1498). Meanwhile, the 9-variable model displayed a well discrimination performance in the validation group, with an AUC value of 0.781 (95%CI 0.702, 0.843). The DCA showed the model performed well and was feasible for making beneficial clinical decisions. Calibration curves revealed the goodness of fit between the predicted values by the model and the actual values, the Hosmer–Lemeshow test was 7.427, and P = 0.505. Conclusions: Predicting subsequent EPL in RPL patients using the GBM model has important clinical implications. Future prospective studies are needed to verify the clinical applicability. Automated detection of cervical lesion cell/clumps in cervical cytological images is essential for computer-aided diagnosis. In this task, the shape and size of the lesion cell/clumps appeared to vary considerably, reducing the detection performance of cervical lesion cell/clumps. To address the issue, we propose an adaptive feature extraction network for cervical lesion cell/clumps detection, called AFE-Net. Specifically, we propose the adaptive module to acquire the features of cervical lesion cell/clumps, while introducing the global bias mechanism to acquire the global average information, aiming at combining the adaptive features with the global information to improve the representation of the target features in the model, and thus enhance the detection performance of the model. Furthermore, we analyze the results of the popular bounding box loss on the model and propose the new bounding box loss tendency-IoU (TIoU). Finally, the network achieves the mean Average Precision (mAP) of 64.8% on the CDetector dataset, with 30.7 million parameters. Magnetic Fe3O4 resorcinol–formaldehyde (RF) resin core–shell composites loaded with Au nanoparticles (Fe3O4@RF-Au) were prepared via a hydrothermal photoreduction strategy for efficient production of H2O2 and degradation of tetracycline (TC). Under visible light illumination, Fe3O4@RF-Au reduced oxygen to produce H2O2 through a two-electron reduction pathway. Fe(II) simultaneously catalysed the decomposition of H2O2 to generate⋅OH for the degradation of TC. The Fe3O4@RF-Au2 photocatalyst demonstrated the highest photodegradation efficiency of 96.8% against TC and a high H2O2 yield of ~326 µmol L−1 in an open atmosphere, which was enhanced 6.5 times that of Fe3O4@RF. The introduction of RF coating and plasmonic Au nanoparticles significantly enhanced the light-harvesting efficiency, O2 adsorption capacity, photogenerated carrier migration, and separation, thereby boosting the photocatalytic performance. Penicillium italicum, a major postharvest pathogen, causes blue mold rot in citrus fruits through the deployment of various virulence factors. Recent studies highlight the role of the epigenetic reader, SntB, in modulating the pathogenicity of phytopathogenic fungi. Our research revealed that the deletion of the SntB gene in P. italicum led to significant phenotypic alterations, including delayed mycelial growth, reduced spore production, and decreased utilization of sucrose. Additionally, the mutant strain exhibited increased sensitivity to pH fluctuations and elevated iron and calcium ion stress, culminating in reduced virulence on Gannan Novel oranges. Ultrastructural analyses disclosed notable disruptions in cell membrane integrity, disorganization within the cellular matrix, and signs of autophagy. Transcriptomic data further indicated a pronounced upregulation of hydrolytic enzymes, oxidoreductases, and transport proteins, suggesting a heightened energy demand. The observed phenomena were consistent with a carbon starvation response potentially triggering apoptotic pathways, including iron-dependent cell death. These findings collectively underscored the pivotal role of SntB in maintaining the pathogenic traits of P. italicum, proposing that targeting PiSntB could offer a new avenue for controlling citrus fungal infections and subsequent fruit decay. Bromus (Poaceae Bromeae) is a forage grass with high adaptability and ecological and economic value. Here, we sequenced Bromus ciliatus, Bromus benekenii, Bromus riparius, and Bromus rubens chloroplast genomes and compared them with four previously described species. The genome sizes of Bromus species ranged from 136,934 bp (Bromus vulgaris) to 137,189 bp (Bromus ciliates, Bromus biebersteinii), with a typical quadripartite structure. The studied species had 129 genes, consisting of 83 protein-coding, 38 tRNA-coding, and 8 rRNA-coding genes. The highest GC content was found in the inverted repeat (IR) region (43.85–44.15%), followed by the large single-copy (LSC) region (36.25–36.65%) and the small single-copy (SSC) region (32.21–32.46%). There were 33 high-frequency codons, with those ending in A/U accounting for 90.91%. A total of 350 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were identified, with single-nucleotide repeats being the most common (61.43%). A total of 228 forward and 141 palindromic repeats were identified. No reverse or complementary repeats were detected. The sequence identities of all sequences were very similar, especially with respect to the protein-coding and inverted repeat regions. Seven highly variable regions were detected, which could be used for molecular marker development. The constructed phylogenetic tree indicates that Bromus is a monophyletic taxon closely related to Triticum. This study aimed to unveil the central mechanism of moxibustion treating chronic inflammatory visceral pain (CIVP) from the angle of circRNA-miRNA-mRNA networks in the spinal cord. The rat CIVP model was established using a mixture of 5% (w/v) 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid and 50% ethanol at a volume ratio of 2:1 via enema. Rats in the moxibustion group received herb-partitioned moxibustion at Tianshu (ST25, bilateral) and Qihai (CV6) points. The abdominal withdrawal reflex (AWR), mechanical withdrawal threshold (MWT), and thermal withdrawal latency (TWL) were adopted for pain behavior observation and pain sensitivity assessment. The circRNA, miRNA, and mRNA expression profiles were detected using the high-throughput sequencing technique. Relevant databases and bioinformatics analysis methods were used to screen for differentially expressed (DE) RNAs and build a circRNA-miRNA-mRNA (competing endogenous RNA) ceRNA regulatory network. The real-time quantitative PCR was employed to verify the sequencing result. CIVP rat models had a significantly higher AWR and lower TWL and MWT than normal rats. Between normal and model rats, there were 103 DE-circRNAs, 16 DE-miRNAs, and 397 DE-mRNAs in the spinal cord. Compared with the model group, the moxibustion group had a lower AWR and higher TWL and MWT; between these two groups, there were 118 DE-circRNAs, 15 DE-miRNAs, and 804 DE-mRNAs in the spinal cord. Two ceRNA networks were chosen to be verified. As a result, moxibustion's analgesic effect on visceral pain in CIVP rats may be associated with regulating the circRNA_02767/rno-miR-483-3p/Gfap network in the spinal cord and improving central sensitization. Parental mosaicism is important in families with de novo mutations. Herein, we report a case of fetal CHARGE syndrome (CS) with a CHD7 variant inherited from maternal CHD7 gonosomal mosaicism. The variant was detected through trio‐based whole‐exome sequencing and Sanger sequencing. High‐depth whole‐exome sequencing was performed for the identification of parental mosaicism. A novel heterozygous CHD7 nonsense mutation (c.5794G>T/ p.E1932*) was detected in the tissue from the aborted fetus. The parents were wild‐type, indicating that the mutation was a de novo variant. The mutation was suspected to be the cause of the fetal CS. However, high‐depth whole‐exome sequencing revealed maternal gonosomal mosaicism at a variant allele frequency of 3.2%–23.3%. The variant was identified in various tissues (peripheral blood, hair follicles, buccal epithelia, and pharyngeal epithelia) from the asymptomatic mother. We confirmed maternal CHD7 gonosomal mosaicism as a genetic cause of fetal CS. Our results emphasize the importance of clinical analysis in accurately determining the parents' status in detecting the CHD7de novo variant in fetal CS, as this analysis has vital implications for evaluating the recurrence risk for genetic counseling. Background: At present, individualized interventions can be given to patients with a clear etiology of pregnancy loss to improve the subsequent pregnancy outcomes, but the current reproductive status of the patient cannot be changed. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between female reproductive status and subsequence pregnancy outcome in patients with prior pregnancy loss (PL). Methods: A prospective, dynamic population cohort study was carried out at the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University. From September 2019 to February 2022, a total of 1955 women with at least one previous PL were enrolled. Maternal reproductive status and subsequent reproductive outcomes were recorded through an electronic medical record system and follow-up. Logistic regression was used to evaluate the association between reproductive status and the risk of subsequent reproductive outcomes. Results: Among all patients, the rates of subsequent infertility, early PL, late PL, and live birth were 20.82%, 24.33%, 1.69% and 50.77% respectively. In logistic regression, we found that age (OR 1.08, 95% CI 1.04–1.13) and previous cesarean delivery history (OR 2.46, 95% CI 1.27–4.76) were risk factors for subsequent infertility in patients with PL. Age (OR 1.06, 95% CI 1.03–1.10), age at first pregnancy (OR 1.06, 95% CI 1.03–1.10), BMI (OR 1.06, 95% CI 1.02–1.11), previous PL numbers (OR 1.18, 95% CI 1.04–1.57) and without pre-pregnancy intervention (OR 1.77, 95% CI 1.35–2.24) were risk factors for non-live birth. Age (OR 1.06, 95% CI 1.03–1.09), age at first pregnancy (OR 1.06, 95% CI 1.02–1.09), BMI (OR 1.07, 95% CI 1.02–1.11), previous PL numbers (OR 1.15, 95% CI 1.02–1.31) and without pre-pregnancy intervention (OR 2.16, 95% CI 1.65–2.84) were risk factors for PL. Conclusions: The reproductive status of people with PL is strongly correlated with the outcome of subsequent pregnancies. Active pre-pregnancy intervention can improve the subsequent pregnancy outcome. Background: Deep learning‐based methods have been successfully applied to MRI image registration. However, there is a lack of deep learning‐based registration methods for magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) spectral registration (SR). Purpose: To investigate a convolutional neural network‐based SR (CNN‐SR) approach for simultaneous frequency‐and‐phase correction (FPC) of single‐voxel Meshcher–Garwood point‐resolved spectroscopy (MEGA‐PRESS) MRS data. Study Type: Retrospective. Subjects: Forty thousand simulated MEGA‐PRESS datasets generated from FID Appliance (FID‐A) were used and split into the following: 32,000/4000/4000 for training/validation/testing. A 101 MEGA‐PRESS medial parietal lobe data retrieved from the Big GABA were used as the in vivo datasets. Field Strength/Sequence: 3T, MEGA‐PRESS. Assessment: Evaluation of frequency and phase offsets mean absolute errors were performed for the simulation dataset. Evaluation of the choline interval variance was performed for the in vivo dataset. The magnitudes of the offsets introduced were −20 to 20 Hz and −90° to 90° and were uniformly distributed for the simulation dataset at different signal‐to‐noise ratio (SNR) levels. For the in vivo dataset, different additional magnitudes of offsets were introduced: small offsets (0–5 Hz; 0–20°), medium offsets (5–10 Hz; 20–45°), and large offsets (10–20 Hz; 45–90°). Statistical Tests: Two‐tailed paired t‐tests for model performances in the simulation and in vivo datasets were used and a P‐value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: CNN‐SR model was capable of correcting frequency offsets (0.014 ± 0.010 Hz at SNR 20 and 0.058 ± 0.050 Hz at SNR 2.5 with line broadening) and phase offsets (0.104 ± 0.076° at SNR 20 and 0.416 ± 0.317° at SNR 2.5 with line broadening). Using in vivo datasets, CNN‐SR achieved the best performance without (0.000055 ± 0.000054) and with different magnitudes of additional frequency and phase offsets (i.e., 0.000062 ± 0.000068 at small, −0.000033 ± 0.000023 at medium, 0.000067 ± 0.000102 at large) applied. Transition metallic binary alloys have attracted enormous attention in regard to the non-enzymatic detection of glucose due to their high electrocatalytic activities induced by the synergistic effect between the individual metallic species. However, the easy aggregation of the bimetallic particles has limited their performance. Herein, a facile metal–organic framework (MOF)-derived strategy is developed to synthesize a hybrid containing binary Co–Ni nanoparticles decorated on an N-doped porous carbon matrix (CoxNiy/N-C) for the non-enzymatic detection of glucose. The Co/Ni ratio in the hybrid is investigated to regulate its electrocatalytic behaviors for glucose sensing. A hybrid with the optimal Co/Ni ratio of 1:1 displays two linear detection ranges (0.5 µM to 1 mM and 1 mM to 10 mM) with a detection limit of 0.11 µM for glucose. Circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers offer a technically viable and environmentally friendly means for the clean and efficient utilization of solid fuels. However, the complex gas–solid two-phase flow processes within them have hindered a thorough resolution of prediction issues related to coupled combustion, heat transfer, and pollutant generation characteristics. To address the deficiencies in scientific research, meet the practical operational needs of CFB boilers, and comply with new carbon emission policies, conducting full-scale field tests on large-scale CFB boilers is needed, so that the complex gas–solid flow, combustion, and heat transfer mechanisms in the furnace can be comprehended. In this paper, issues related to large-scale CFB boilers, including the uniformity of air distribution, secondary air injection range, spatial distribution of oxygen consumption and combustion reactions, distribution of pollutant generation, hydrodynamic and heat transfer characteristics, coal feeding distribution characteristics, coal diffusion characteristics under thermal operating conditions, and engineering research on anti-wear technology, are reviewed. By integrating practical engineering applications, the basic methods and measurement techniques used in full-scale field tests for large-scale CFB boilers are summarized, providing a practical reference for conducting engineering tests with large-scale CFB boilers. The physicochemical traits of highland barley prominently affect the quality of Tsampa. To find out the relevance between the physicochemical properties of raw material and the texture parameters of processed products, twenty-five physicochemical traits and ten quality parameters for seventy-six varieties of highland barley were measured and analyzed. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the physicochemical indexes for highland barleys of various colors. The dark highland barley generally has more fat, protein, total dietary fiber, phenolic, Mg, K, Ca, and Zn and less amylose, Fe, Cu, and Mo than light colored barley. Then, these highland barleys were made into Tsampa. A comprehensive quality evaluation model based on the color and texture parameters of Tsampa was established through principal component analysis. Then, cluster analysis was used to classify the tested samples into three edible quality grades predicated on the above evaluation model. At last, the regression analysis was applied to establish a Tsampa quality predictive model according to the physicochemical traits of the raw material. The results showed that amylose, protein, β-Glucan, and a* and b* could be used to predict the comprehensive quality of Tsampa. The predicted results indicated that 11 of 14 validated samples were consistent with the actual quality, and the accuracy was above 78.57%. Objective: During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people devoted longer time to screen viewing due to the need for study, work, and online social activities, instead of outdoor activities, which may have led to an increase in dry eye symptoms. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of dry eye during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, and Web of Science were searched from January 1, 2020 to October 20, 2022. Cross-sectional surveys on dry eye prevalence conducted after January 1, 2020 were included. Two review authors independently performed data extraction and assessed study quality. The random-effects model was used to analyze the prevalence of dry eye, and the odds ratio was used to assess the strength of the association between variables. Subgroup analysis was performed to detect heterogeneity, the leave-one-out method for sensitivity analysis, and the Egger test for publication bias. Results: A total of eleven studies with 15692 individuals met the eligibility criteria. The prevalence of dry eye during the COVID-19 pandemic was 61.0% (95%CI: 51.8%-70.2%) globally and 56.7% (95%CI: 45.3%-68.1%) in Asia. The prevalence of dry eye had significant differences in sex and visual display time, with higher prevalence among females and visual display time of more than 4 hours per day. Subgroup analysis was performed based on diagnostic tools, study population, and average age. A significant difference was found in diagnostic tools, but no significant change in heterogeneity (P<0.05). The leave-one-out method showed stable results, and the Egger test identified no significant publication bias. Conclusion: The prevalence of dry eye during the COVID-19 pandemic is significantly higher than before, and a higher prevalence is found among females and those having a visual display time of more than 4 hours per day. Oocyte maturation arrest, fertilization failure, and early embryonic arrest are important causes of female infertility, whereas the genetic events that contribute to these processes are largely unknown. Loss‐of‐function of PABPC1L in mice has been suggested to cause female infertility involved in the absence of mature oocytes or embryos in vivo or in vitro. However, the role of PABPC1L in human female reproduction remains largely elusive. In this study, we identified a homozygous missense mutation (c.536G>A, p.R179Q) and a compound heterozygous mutation (c.793C>T, p.R265W; c.1201C>T, p.Q401*) in PABPC1L in two unrelated infertile females characterized by recurrent oocyte maturation abnormalities and early embryonic arrest. These variants resulted in nonfunctional PABPC1L protein and were associated with impaired chromatin configuration and transcriptional silencing in GV oocytes. Moreover, the binding capacity of mutant PABPC1L to mRNAs related to oocyte maturation and early embryonic development was decreased significantly. Our findings revealed novel PABPC1L mutations causing oocyte maturation abnormalities and early embryonic arrest, confirming the essential role of PABPC1L in human female fertility. Schizophrenia is a chronic neuropsychiatric disorder that causes distinct structural alterations within the brain. We hypothesize that deep learning applied to a structural neuroimaging dataset could detect disease-related alteration and improve classification and diagnostic accuracy. We tested this hypothesis using a single, widely available, and conventional T1-weighted MRI scan, from which we extracted the 3D whole-brain structure using standard post-processing methods. A deep learning model was then developed, optimized, and evaluated on three open datasets with T1-weighted MRI scans of patients with schizophrenia. Our proposed model outperformed the benchmark model, which was also trained with structural MR images using a 3D CNN architecture. Our model is capable of almost perfectly (area under the ROC curve = 0.987) distinguishing schizophrenia patients from healthy controls on unseen structural MRI scans. Regional analysis localized subcortical regions and ventricles as the most predictive brain regions. Subcortical structures serve a pivotal role in cognitive, affective, and social functions in humans, and structural abnormalities of these regions have been associated with schizophrenia. Our finding corroborates that schizophrenia is associated with widespread alterations in subcortical brain structure and the subcortical structural information provides prominent features in diagnostic classification. Together, these results further demonstrate the potential of deep learning to improve schizophrenia diagnosis and identify its structural neuroimaging signatures from a single, standard T1-weighted brain MRI. Background: Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play a key role in the occurrence and progression of myopia. However, the function of lncRNAs in retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) in the pathogenesis of myopia is still unknown. The aim of our study was to explore the lncRNA-mediated competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network in RGCs during the development of myopia. Methods: RNA sequencing was performed to analyze lncRNA and mRNA expression profiles in RGCs between guinea pigs with form-deprived myopia (FDM) and normal control guinea pigs, and related ceRNA networks were constructed. Then, potentially important genes in ceRNA networks were verified by qRT‒PCR, and Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analyses were performed to explore biological functions in the RGCs of FDM guinea pigs. The important genes and related signaling pathways were further verified by qRT‒PCR, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence and Western blot in myopia in FDM guinea pigs, FDM mice, and highly myopic adults. Results: The distribution of RGCs was uneven, the number of RGCs was decreased, and RGC apoptosis was increased in FDM guinea pigs. In total, 873 lncRNAs and 2480 mRNAs were determined to be differentially expressed genes in RGCs from normal control and FDM guinea pigs. Via lncRNA-mediated ceRNA network construction and PCR verification, we found that lncRNA-XR_002792574.1 may be involved in the development of myopia through the miR-760-3p/Adcy1 pathway in RGCs. Further verification in FDM guinea pigs, FDM mice, and highly myopic adults demonstrated that the lncRNA-XR_002792574.1/miR-760-3p/Adcy1 axis in RGCs might be related to cGMP/PKG, the apelin signaling pathway and scleral remodeling. Conclusion: We demonstrated that the lncRNA-XR_002792574.1/miR-760-3p/Adcy1 axis in RGCs might be related to myopia. On the one hand, the lncRNA-XR_002792574.1/miR-760-3p/Adcy1 axis might inhibit the cGMP/PKG and apelin signaling pathways in RGCs, thereby causing RGC damage in myopia. On the other hand, the lncRNA-XR_002792574.1/miR-760-3p/Adcy1 axis may cause myopic scleral remodeling through the ERK-MMP-2 pathway. Backgrounds: Dietary factors has been found to influence serum uric acid (SUA) levels. We further explored the associations between dietary and supplemental vitamin C intake and SUA in a large population-based study. Methods: The cross-sectional study included 6308 participants (3146 males and 3162 females) aged ≥20 years from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2011–2016 in the United States. The dietary vitamin C was log-transformed for statistical analysis. Hyperuricemia was defined as SUA concentrations >420 umol/L in males or >360 umol/L in females. The associations of dietary vitamin C and supplemental vitamin C with SUA levels and hyperuricemia risk were evaluated using weighted linear regression models and weighted multivariate logistic regression models, and a subgroup analysis stratified by gender was also conducted. Results: In this large-scale database study, there was a negative association between dietary vitamin C (log transformed) and SUA levels in US adults (β = −7.27, 95% CI: −11.58, −2.97). The inverse relationship existed among males but not females (P for interaction = 0.02). There was inverse correlation between dietary vitamin C (log transformed) and hyperuricemia risk (OR = 0.68, 95% CI: 0.57, 0.81), especially in males compared to females determined through an interaction test (P = 0.04). There were no associations between supplemental vitamin C and SUA levels (β = 1.00 (95% CI: −4.44, 6.44) or hyperuricemia risk (OR = 0.98 (95% CI: 0.78, 1.24). High-dosage supplemental vitamin C (>300 mg) and hyperuricemia risk were not associated (OR = 1.04, 95% CI: 0.69, 1.56). Conclusions: This study demonstrated that there were negative associations between dietary vitamin C and SUA levels and hyperuricemia risk among US adults. The inverse correlations between dietary vitamin C and hyperuricemia risk were more significant in males compared to females. Introduction: A previous 6-month report showed that adjunctive auricular acupoint stimulation (AAS) slowed myopia progression compared with 0.01% atropine (0.01% A) alone. This 12-month report was to determine whether the antimyopic effect of AAS, when added to 0.01% A, continued beyond treatment cessation, and explore the mode of action of AAS from the accommodative response. Design and Interventions: One hundred four children were randomly assigned to either a 0.01% A group or a 0.01% A + AAS group. Participants in the 0.01% A + AAS group received AAS in addition to 0.01% A for 6 months, and then kept using 0.01% A for the following 6 months. Participants in the 0.01% A group only used 0.01% A. The primary outcome was the difference in the mean cycloplegic spherical equivalent refraction (SER) from the baseline to the 12-month visit. Secondary outcomes included axial length (AL) and accommodative lag assessments. Results: The adjusted mean change from baseline to month 12 in the SER was −0.62 D for 0.01% A and −0.46 D for 0.01% A + AAS (difference, 0.16 D; p = 0.01), with a respective mean increase of 0.37 and 0.31 mm in AL (difference, −0.05 mm; p = 0.05). For the 5D near target, there was a reduction in the accommodative lag in children receiving add-on AAS relative to 0.01% A alone at 1 and 6 months (both p = 0.002). Conclusions: AAS treatment produced additional benefits >0.01% A in slowing myopia progression over the 12-month period, where the efficacy was sustained after the cessation of AAS. An effect of add-on AAS on reducing accommodative lag in response to 5D stimulus was found, but its role in mediating therapeutic response remained unclear. Continuous monitoring for immunosuppressive status, infection and complications are a must for kidney transplantation (KTx) recipients. Traditional monitoring including blood sampling and kidney biopsy, which caused tremendous medical cost and trauma. Therefore, a cheaper and less invasive approach was urgently needed. We thought that a breath test has the potential to become a feasible tool for KTx monitoring. A prospective-specimen collection, retrospective-blinded assessment strategy was used in this study. Exhaled breath samples from 175 KTx recipients were collected in West China Hospital and tested by online ultraviolet photoionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UVP-TOF–MS). The classification models based on breath test performed well in classifying normal and abnormal values of creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and tacrolimus, with AUC values of 0.889, 0.850, 0.849 and 0.889, respectively. Regression analysis also demonstrated the predictive ability of breath test for clinical creatinine, eGFR, BUN, tacrolimus level, as the predicted values obtained from the regression model correlated well with the clinical true values (p < 0.05). The findings of this investigation implied that a breath test by using UVP-TOF–MS for KTx recipient monitoring is possible and accurate, which might be useful for future clinical screenings. Background: The relationship between serum uric acid (SUA) and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has been previously reported. Controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) has better diagnostic performance than ultrasonography for assessing hepatic steatosis. The association of SUA with hepatic steatosis detected by CAP is worth further study. Methods: The US population aged 20 years or older from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) was assessed. Hepatic steatosis was evaluated by the controlled attenuation parameter (CAP). NAFLD status was defined as CAP values of 268 dB/m without hepatitis B or C virus infection or considerable alcohol consumption. Multiple imputations were performed to fill in the missing covariate values. Linear regression, logistic regression, and smooth curve fitting were used to examine the association. Results: In total, 3919 individuals participated in this study. There was a positive association between SUA (µmol/L) and CAP (β = 0.14, 95% CI: 0.12-0.17, P < 0.01). After stratification by sex, a significant relationship between SUA and CAP existed in both males (β = 0.12, 95% CI: 0.09-0.16, P < 0.01) and females (β = 0.17, 95% CI: 0.14-0.20, P < 0.01) after multiple imputation. The inflection points of the threshold effect of SUA on CAP were 487.7 µmol/L in males and 386.6 µmol/L in females. There was a positive association between SUA (mg/dL) and NAFLD (OR = 1.30, 95% CI: 1.23-1.37, P < 0.01). After stratification by race, positive relationships were also observed. Meanwhile, a positive relationship existed between hyperuricemia and NAFLD (OR = 1.94, 95% CI: 1.64-2.30, P < 0.01). The positive relationship was more significant in females than in males (P for interaction < 0.01). Conclusions: There was a positive association between SUA and CAP, as well as between SUA and NAFLD. Subgroup studies stratified by sex and ethnicity demonstrated that the effects were consistent. Corethrodendron fruticosum is an endemic forage grasses in China with high ecological value. In this study, the complete chloroplast genome of C. fruticosum was sequenced using Illumina paired-end sequencing. The C. fruticosum chloroplast genome was 123,100 bp and comprised 105 genes, including 74 protein-coding genes, 4 rRNA-coding genes, and 27 tRNA-coding genes. The genome had a GC content of 34.53%, with 50 repetitive sequences and 63 simple repeat repetitive sequences that did not contain reverse repeats. The simple repeats included 45 single-nucleotide repeats, which accounted for the highest proportion and primarily comprised A/T repeats. A comparative analysis of C. fruticosum, C. multijugum, and four Hedysarum species revealed that the six genomes were highly conserved, with differentials primarily located in the conserved non-coding regions. Moreover, the accD and clpP genes in the coding regions exhibited high nucleotide variability. Accordingly, these genes may serve as molecular markers for the classification and phylogenetic analysis of Corethrodendron species. Phylogenetic analysis further revealed that C. fruticosum and C. multijugum appeared in different clades than the four Hedysarum species. The newly sequenced chloroplast genome provides further insights into the phylogenetic position of C. fruticosum, which is useful for the classification and identification of Corethrodendron. Context : In the event of accidental trauma, incurable disease and public health emergencies, young adults are unable to participate in their own medical decisions, family members face the huge decision-making pressure and medical resources of the society were unevenly distributed. Objective : The purposes of this study is to investigate the Advanced Care Planning (ACP) acceptance and examine its influencing factors using sequential explanatory mixed methods in order to provide a basis for the formulation of later interventions. Methods : A cross-sectional study of young adults (N = 785) and 12 other young adults from two other communities were investigated from January 2021 to February 2022. Descriptive statistics and multiple linear regressions were conducted. Content analysis was performed on the qualitative data. Results : The primary factors that contributed to the acceptance of ACP were the natural acceptance of death, being female, having a high level of education, having a loved one diagnosed with a chronic disease, and having heard of ACP. Among young adults, the acceptance of ACP may be impeded by a fear of the unknown nature of death, a poor understanding of ACP, and family-led decision-making. Discussion : Our study found that 77.1% had not heard of ACP before participating in the study and showed potential to accept ACP-related interventions. The study highlighted the importance of implementing regular young adult education courses, promoting routine ACP knowledge, individualized education, discussing family member's disease experiences, conducting family meetings, and identifying young adult responsibilities and roles in implement ACP for young adults in China. Adolescence is a susceptible period to establish health-risk behaviors, which may have an impact on academic performance. The aim of this study was to investigate the association between health-risk behaviors (HRBs) and perceived academic performance (PAP) of adolescents in Shanghai, China. The data of the present study included three-round Shanghai Youth Health-risk Behavior Survey (SYHBS). This cross-sectional survey investigated multiple HRBs of students involved in dietary behaviors, physical activity and sedentary behaviors, intentional and unintentional injury behaviors, and substance abuse behaviors, as well as PAP by using self-reported questionnaire. Using a multistage random sampling method, 40,593 middle and high school students aged 12 to 18 years were involved. Only participants with complete data on HRBs information, academic performance and covariates were included. A total of 35,740 participants were involved in analysis. We used ordinal logistic regression to analyze the association between each HRB and PAP adjusting for sociodemographic, family environment and duration of extracurricular study. The results showed that students who did not eat breakfast or drink milk everyday were more likely to have a lower PAP, with a decreased odds of 0.89 (95%CI: 0.86–0.93, P<0.001) and 0.82 (95%CI: 0.79–0.85, P<0.001), respectively. The similar association was also found in students who did exercise ≥60 minutes for less than 5 days/week, spend time on watch TV beyond 3 hours/day and other sedentary behaviors. Most intentional and unintentional injuries, and ever smoked were associated with a lower PAP. Our finding suggests that multiple HRBs negatively associated with PAP of adolescents. It needs to raise public health concerns with HRBs in adolescents, and to develop and implement comprehensive interventions on HRBs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

POLR3B gene encodes the 2nd largest catalytic subunit and affects the function of RNA polymerase III enzymes in transcription. Bi‐allelic variants in POLR3B pathogenically cause hypomyelinating leukodystrophy‐8 (HLD8). Herein, we recruited a family with two patients, who presented clinically with cerebellar atrophy, intellectual disability, hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, and visual problems. We identified the two affected siblings carrying the compound heterozygous variations (c.165_167del; c.1615G>T) in POLR3B by trio‐whole‐exome sequencing (trio‐WES). The qPCR and western blot showed that both transcriptional and translational levels of the mutation (c.165_167del, p.I55_K56delinsM) were sharply attenuated. Following that, a thorough functional examination of a zebrafish line disrupted for human POLR3B validated the pathogenic effects of the two mutations. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to assess the efficacy of electroacupuncture on dry eye (DE). Methods: Eighty‐four DE patients were randomly assigned to receive electroacupuncture (EAG) three times a week or 0.1% sodium hyaluronate artificial tears (ATG) four times per day for 4 weeks. The primary outcomes were non‐invasive tear film breakup time (NIBUT) and tear meniscus height (TMH). The secondary outcomes included the ocular surface disease index (OSDI), Schirmer I test (SIT), corneal sodium fluorescein staining (CFS) score, corneal topography descriptors surface asymmetry index (SAI) and surface regularity index (SRI), corneal sensitivity, 36‐item Short‐form Health Survey (SF‐36) score and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) score. All outcomes were assessed at Week 0 (baseline), Week 4 (after‐treatment) and Week 8 (follow‐up). Results: Between‐group comparisons showed significant differences in the changes in NIBUT (Week 4, p = 0.003; Week 8, p = 0.008), TMH (Week 4, p = 0.014; Week 8, p = 0.009), OSDI (Week 4, p = 0.029; Week 8, p = 0.022), CFS score (Week 8, p = 0.036) and SF‐36 role‐physical score (Week 4, p = 0.010), favouring EAG. Mean changes in SIT, SAI, SRI, corneal sensitivity and HADS scores were statistically equal between the two groups (all p > 0.05). Treatment with electroacupuncture was well‐tolerated and showed minimal adverse events. Graphitic carbon nitride (CN) is considered to be a promising metal-free photocatalyst, but the charge carrier separation and rapid complexation of electrons and holes are difficult to modulate for effective and comprehensive photodegradation of TC. In this work, a MoS2 QD decorated sea-urchin carbon nitride nanohybrid was prepared via a water bath method. In comparison to the 85.6% degradation efficiency of sole sea-urchin carbon nitride (SUCN), the optimized 5% MoS2 QDs/SUCN (5%MSUCN) demonstrated a removal efficiency of 96.0% towards aqueous tetracycline (TC) under visible light. Such an outstanding photoactivity was mainly attributed to the interfacial synergistic effect of MoS2 QDs and SUCN, in which the outstanding charge extraction ability and quick surface kinetics of MoS2 QDs were primarily accountable for the subsequent deep photodegradation behavior of 5%MSUCN. A series of factors that may affect photoactivity of 5%MSUCN include pH values, inorganic ions, and organic matter. Finally, the deep photodegradation mechanisms of TC and intermediates were proposed based on ex situ HPLC-MS. Cancer metastasis is still a major challenge in clinical cancer treatment. The migration and invasion of cancer cells into surrounding tissues and blood vessels is the primary step in cancer metastasis. However, the underlying mechanism of regulating cell migration and invasion are not fully understood. Here, we show the role of malic enzyme 2 (ME2) in promoting human liver cancer cell lines SK-Hep1 and Huh7 cells migration and invasion. Depletion of ME2 reduces cell migration and invasion, whereas overexpression of ME2 increases cell migration and invasion. Mechanistically, ME2 promotes the production of pyruvate, which directly binds to β-catenin and increases β-catenin protein levels. Notably, pyruvate treatment restores cell migration and invasion of ME2-depleted cells. Our findings provide a mechanistic understanding of the link between ME2 and cell migration and invasion. In this work, α-Fe2O3/SBA-15 catalysts were prepared by one-step and two-step impregnation methods, and the samples were referred to simply as S1 and S2, respectively. Ordered mesoporous α-Fe2O3 nanowires (S3) were obtained by removing SBA-15 from S2. The S1, S2, and S3 catalysts were used to degrade Rhodamine B (RhB) solutions using the photocatalytic-Fenton method, respectively. Within 30 min of visible light irradiation, RhB was completely degraded by S2, the degradation efficiency of which was much higher than the references using Fe2O3 nanoparticles catalysts. The degradation rate constants for S1 and S2 were 0.0633 and 0.1061, respectively, while S3 was only 0.0125. Furthermore, the synthesized S2 catalysts showed good stability, maintaining a high RhB degradation rate of more than 98% within 30 min after 4 cycles. The excellent degradation activity of α-Fe2O3/SBA-15 can be attributed to the synergistic effect of α-Fe2O3 nanowires and SBA-15 in facilitating the efficient charge transport and photocatalytic-Fenton reaction. This work demonstrated the photocatalytic degradation efficiency can be effectively improved using well-crystallized nanowires catalysts incorporated in the SBA-15. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Folate is considered to be related to lipid metabolism. With the increasing numbers of folic acid fortification nations, the associations of dietary folate and serum folate with lipid profiles deserve more attention and are worth further study. Methods: US adults aged ≥ 20 years from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) were evaluated. Participants taking folic acid supplements were excluded. The multivariate linear regression model and smooth curve fitting were applied to assess the associations. The segmented regression model was employed to examine the threshold effect of nonlinear relationships. Results: Our cross-sectional study included 3706 participants in total. There was a negative relationship between serum folate (log transformed) and triglycerides (β = –0.223, 95% CI: –0.337, –0.110) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (β = –0.152, 95% CI: –0.296, –0.007) and a positive relationship between serum folate (log transformed) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) (β = 0.090, 95% CI: 0.033,0.146). There was a negative association between dietary folate (log transformed) and total cholesterol (TC) (β = –0.299, 95% CI: –0.465, –0.134) and LDL-C (β = –0.266, 95% CI: –0.409, –0.123). A nonlinear relationship was found between dietary folate (log transformed) and HDL-C. Threshold effect analysis showed that the inflection point was 377.57 ug. Within the inflection point, the β-coefficient of HDL-C was 0.105 (95% CI: 0.018, 0.192); beyond the inflection point, there was no relationship (β = –0.067, 95% CI: –0.162, 0.028). Conclusions: Optimal dietary folate and high serum folate were associated with favorable lipid profiles. Dietary folate, in the recommended 300–400 ug/d, had a beneficial effect on improving lipid profiles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Proton-transfer-reaction time-of-flight mass spectrometry (PTR-TOFMS) has proven to be more and more essential in online monitoring technologies of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). A key component in the PTR-TOFMS instrument is the ion-molecule reactor (IMR), which traditionally generates a continuous ion current. However, TOFMS cannot fully detect the continuous ion beams generated by the traditional IMR because the acceleration of the ions in the pusher region is discontinuous. In this work, a novel traveling wave ion-molecule reactor (TW-IMR) for the PTR-TOFMS has been developed for the first time. Before entering the TOFMS pusher, the ions were trapped in the TW valley of TW-IMR. Subsequently, the TOFMS pulse was adapted to synchronize the time of the ion packet arriving in the repulsion region and the pusher. In order to evaluate the performance of the TW-IMR-TOFMS instrument, a series of typical VOCs such as acetone, benzene, toluene, xylene, and styrene were used. Depending on the compound, the limit of detection (LOD) was significantly improved by a factor of 8 to 22 when switching from asynchronous to synchronous operation. Moreover, TW-IMR-TOFMS performed better than conventional PTR-TOFMS in terms of LOD by 3–18 times. Different aspects and characteristics of TW-IMR, such as the effects of TW speed, TW amplitude, TW duty cycle, RF amplitude, and TW-pusher delay times upon the formation of the reagent ions, were explored systematically. As a result, the proposed TW-PTR-IMR technique not only improved the ion usage in the TOFMS without introducing an additional pulse lens but also enhanced the ion transmission efficiency compared to the traditional PTR-IMR by combining it with the RF ion focusing technology. Benefiting from the advantages of the TW technology, the proposed TW-IMR-TOFMS technology opens up a new avenue for increasing the performance of the existing PTR-TOFMS methods. Low temperature is one of the abiotic factors that limit the biomass of Medicago ruthenica (L.), and carbon and nitrogen have important roles in the plant's growth and development. However, the information on the distribution of carbon and nitrogen under low temperature conditions is limited. In this study, we investigated the influence of carbon and nitrogen distribution on M. ruthenica (L.) Trautv. cv. 'Zhilixing' based on 13C and 15N isotope tracers in two temperature‐controlled chambers (4–10°C and 25°C, respectively) for 30 days. Results showed that under low temperature, plant height significantly decreased by 22.74%, whereas the ratio of underground to aboveground biomass considerably increased by 146.31% compared to the control plants at 30 days. Moreover, low temperature stress significantly increased the activities of sucrose synthase and glutamine synthase in leaves, shoots and roots. The total carbon content and the abundance of 15N increased in leaves, shoots and roots under low temperature, with a greater level of increase in shoots than in leaves and roots. The weight of leaves, shoots and roots was correlated with δ15N. Hence, low temperature inhibited growth and promoted the transport of carbon and nitrogen. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Here, we demonstrate room temperature NO2 sensors based on ZnO/rGO nanocomposites by a facile hydrothermal method. The ZnO nanoparticles (20 ~ 50 nm) were wrapped by film-like rGO with different contents (0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 wt %). They all exhibit p-type sensing toward NO2 at room temperature. The content of rGO shows an obvious effect on the sensing properties. The ZnO NPs-1% rGO has a high response of 5.21 to 10 ppm NO2 with a response/recovery time of 198/144 s. The sensing mechanism is discussed. The gas-sensitive properties are derived from the strong synergistic effect between the smaller particles of ZnO and rGO. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Multiple morphological abnormalities of the sperm flagella (MMAF), which is characterized as asthenoteratospermia involving absent, short, bent, coiled, and/or irregular‐caliber flagella, is a rare recessive inherited disorder associated with male infertility. To date, genetic causes of MMAF cases are not fully explored. Methods: Whole‐exome sequencing was conducted to identify pathogenic variants in a patient with MMAF. The functional effect of the identified mutations was investigated by immunofluorescence staining and western blotting. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection was used to assist fertilization for the patient with MMAF. Results: We identified novel biallelic mutations, a splicing variant NC_000004.12:g.146937593C>T (c.254+1G>A), and a nonsense mutation NM_001300761.4:c.1185C>G (NP_001287690.1:p.Tyr395*), in TTC29 from an infertile patient. In addition to the typical MMAF phenotype, the patient also presented aberrant morphology of sperm heads. Further functional experiments confirmed the absence of TTC29 expression in the spermatozoa. We also explored the specific expression pattern of TTC29 in human and mouse spermatogenesis. The outcome of intracytoplasmic sperm injection in the patient was unsuccessful, while additional female risk factors should not be excluded. Conclusions: Our study revealed the novel biallelic mutations in TTC29 in a MMAF patient, which findings expand the mutational spectrum of TTC29 and further contribute to the diagnosis, genetic counseling, and prognosis of male infertility. Buprofezin (BUP) is an insecticide used for control of sucking pests. Its widespread use has raised concerns about possible adverse effects on the environment, and especially human health. The mechanism of toxicity of BUP, with respect to human health, is still unclear. Consequently, human A549 cells were employed to clarify the cytotoxicity and toxic mechanism of BUP at the molecular and cellular levels. The outcomes revealed BUP latent toxicity to A549 in a time- and dose-related way. Moreover, BUP induced mitochondrial dysfunction associated with mitochondrial membrane potential collapse, mitochondrial calcium overload, and ROS aggregation, ultimately resulting in the apoptosis and autophagy of A549 cells. Symbolic apoptotic and autophagic modifications were detected, including leakage of cyt-c, elevation of Bax/Bcl-2, activation of cas-9/-3, constitution of autophagic vacuoles, promotion of Beclin-1, conversion of LC3-II, and reduction of p62. Additionally, in total, 1216 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were defined after BUP treatment. Several apoptosis- and autophagy-related genes, such as BCL2, ATG5, and ATG16, down- or upregulated at the RNA transcription level, and functional DEGs enrichment analysis showed their involvement in the metabolism of xenobiotics by cytochrome P450, mTOR signalling pathway, and AMPK signalling pathway. Chlorfenapyr (CHL) is a type of insecticide with a wide range of insecticidal activities and unique targets. The extensive use of pesticides has caused an increase in potential risks to the environment and human health. However, the potential toxicity of CHL and its mechanisms of action on humans remain unclear. Therefore, human liver cells (HepG2) were used to investigate the cytotoxic effect and mechanism of toxicity of CHL at the cellular level. The results showed that CHL induced cellular toxicity in HepG2 cells and induced mitochondrial damage associated with reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation and mitochondrial calcium overload, ultimately leading to apoptosis and autophagy in HepG2 cells. Typical apoptotic changes occurred, including a decline in the mitochondrial membrane potential, the promotion of Bax/Bcl-2 expression causing the release of cyt-c into the cytosol, the activation of cas-9/-3, and the cleavage of PARP. The autophagic effects included the formation of autophagic vacuoles, accumulation of Beclin-1, transformation of LC3-II, and downregulation of p62. Additionally, DNA damage and cell cycle arrest were detected in CHL-treated cells. These results show that CHL induced cytotoxicity associated with mitochondria-mediated programmed cell death (PCD) and DNA damage in HepG2 cells. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
