Physical activity (PA) has a variety of well-established benefits for physical and mental health. However, there are PA disparities based on numerous sociodemographic characteristics, including sexual orientation. Mapping of PA interventions tailored to sexual minorities (ie, nonheterosexual) is currently absent from the literature. Purpose: The purpose of this scoping review was to summarize the existing interventions focused on promoting PA among sexual minority (SM) adults. Methods: A search strategy was developed in consultation with a research librarian for PubMed, Web of Science, SportDiscus, and CINAHL. The scoping review was conducted using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews guidelines. Randomized and nonrandomized interventions that focused on increasing PA among SM adults were included. Data on study design, sample demographics, purpose of research, methodology, intervention components, theory-based constructs used, PA measures, and outcomes of the intervention were extracted. Results: Our search yielded 7289 articles, with 26 articles requiring full-text review. Four interventions were identified that focused on increasing PA among SM adults, with 2 focusing on lesbian/bisexual women, 1 focusing on lesbian/gay cancer survivors, and 1 focusing on men who have sex with men. Two of the 4 studies were successful at increasing PA, with varying psychosocial theories (ie, social cognitive theory and theory of reasoned action) and intervention strategies (ie, PA counseling, group meetings, and pedometers). Conclusion: Findings of this review demonstrate a clear lack of PA interventions targeting SM adults, limiting the available knowledge required for preventionists, practitioners, and health care professionals to effectively promote PA through behavioral modification among this group. Boosting board representation of women redresses structural unfairness and improves corporate governance and performance. The Change Our Game initiative, running over 3 years statewide in Victoria, Australia, mandated 40% representation of women on state sport boards. At the start, only 44% of state sport boards had 40% women representation; by the mandate deadline, this had increased to 93%. Using an institutional theory lens, the authors qualitatively analyzed four stakeholder groups: mandators, policy champions, operationalists, and mandate targets. Stakeholder sentiments were analyzed pre- and postmandate deadline over 3 years. Sentiments ranged from positive to equivocation to denigration. The mandate's coercive pressure, supported by institutional legitimacy and work to accelerate changes, led to institutional change and achieved a significant increase in women board members. Change was grounded in strong ethical and cognitive support from mandate champions. Microsocial expressions of denigration and change resistance did not prevent successful change. Research indicates a positive relationship between physical literacy and healthy aging; however, there is no consensus on the components required to become a physically literate adult. The objective of this study was to understand how physical literacy for adults with chronic conditions is characterized from the perspective of healthcare professionals. Physiotherapy leaders and physical literacy researchers within North America were invited to an online consensus panel and presented with questions related to physical literacy and rehabilitation. A nominal group technique was used for idea generation, clarification, and ranking. Confidence and safety with movements, motivation and commitment to physical activity, the ability to self-monitor changes in function, and understanding the benefits of physical activity were key components when defining physical literacy. There is a need to reconceptualize physical literacy to include the rehabilitation needs of adults living with chronic conditions, and to design programs that promote physical literacy to enhance function and mobility. Purpose: This meta-analysis aimed to (1) provide a comparison of peak changes in indirect markers of exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD) in youths versus adults and (2) determine if the involved limb moderated this effect. Method: Studies were eligible for inclusion if they (1) provided a human youth versus adult comparison; (2) provided data on muscle strength, soreness, or creatine kinase markers beyond ≥24 hours; and (3) did not provide a recovery treatment. Effect sizes (ES) were presented alongside 95% confidence intervals. Results: EIMD exhibited larger effects on adults than in youths for muscle strength (ES = −2.01; P <.001), muscle soreness (ES = −1.52; P <.001), and creatine kinase (ES = −1.98; P <.001). The random effects meta-regression indicated that the effects of upper- and lower-limb exercise in youths and adults were significant for muscle soreness (coefficient estimate = 1.11; P <.001) but not for muscle strength or creatine kinase (P >.05). As such, the between-group effects for muscle soreness (ES = −2.10 vs −1.03; P <.05) were greater in the upper than lower limbs. Conclusion: The magnitude of EIMD in youths is substantially less than in their adult counterparts, and this effect is greater in upper than lower limbs for muscle soreness. Purpose: This study assessed the reliability and load–velocity profiles of 3 different landmine-punch-throw variations (seated without trunk rotation, seated with trunk rotation, and standing whole body) with different loads (20, 22.5, and 25.0 kg), all with the dominant hand and nondominant hand. Methods: In a quasi-randomized order, 14 boxers (24.1 [4.3] y, 72.6 [10.1] kg) performed 3 repetitions of each variation with their dominant hand and their nondominant hand, with maximal effort and 3 minutes of interset rest. Peak velocity was measured via the GymAware Power Tool (Kinetic Performance Technologies). The interclass correlation coefficients and their 95% CIs were used to determine the intrasession reliability of each variation × load × hand combination. Additionally, a 2 (hand) × 3 (variation) repeated-measures analysis of variance assessed the load–velocity profile slope, and a 3 (variation) × 2 (hand) × 3 (load) repeated-measures analysis of variance assessed the peak velocity of each variation. Results: Most variations were highly reliable (intraclass correlation coefficient >.91), with the nondominant hand being as reliable or more reliable than the dominant hand. Very strong linear relationships were observed for the group average for each variation (R2 ≥.96). However, there was no variation × hand interaction for the slope, and there was no main effect for variation or hand. Additionally, there was no interaction for the peak velocity, but there were main effects for variation, hand, and load (P <.01). Conclusion: Each variation was reliable and can be used to create upper-body ballistic unilateral load–velocity profiles. The ability to control the behavior of fluid instabilities at material interfaces, such as the shock-driven Richtmyer–Meshkov instability, is a grand technological challenge with a broad number of applications ranging from inertial confinement fusion experiments to explosively driven shaped charges. In this work, we use a linear-geometry shaped charge as a means of studying methods for controlling material jetting that results from the Richtmyer–Meshkov instability. A shaped charge produces a high-velocity jet by focusing the energy from the detonation of high explosives. The interaction of the resulting detonation wave with a hollowed cavity lined with a thin metal layer produces the unstable jetting effect. By modifying the characteristics of the detonation wave prior to striking the lined cavity, the kinetic energy of the jet can be enhanced or reduced. Modifying the geometry of the liner material can also be used to alter jetting properties. We apply optimization methods to investigate several design parameterizations for both enhancing or suppressing the shaped-charge jet. This is accomplished using 2D and 3D hydrodynamic simulations to investigate the design space that we consider. We also apply new additive manufacturing methods for producing the shaped-charge assemblies, which allow for the experimental testing of complicated design geometries obtained through computational optimization. A double harmonic oscillator model is applied to compute the negative ion photoelectron spectra (NIPES) of the 1- and 2-cyanonaphthalene (CNN) radical anions. The computed Franck–Condon factors utilize optimized structures and harmonic vibrational frequencies obtained using density functional theory with the B3LYP 6-311++G (2d,2p) basis set while considering the mode-mixing Duschinsky effects. To test the accuracy of our model, the NIPES of α and β naphthyl radical anions were computed, and a strong agreement between the slow electron velocity-map ion imaging spectra and the predicted spectra was found. The adiabatic electron affinities (EAs) of the ground singlet states (S0) in 1-CNN and 2-CNN are 0.856 and 0.798 eV, respectively. The origin of the lowest-lying triplet (T1) states in 1-CNN and 2-CNN is found to be 3.226 and 3.266 eV, resulting in singlet–triplet energy splittings (ΔEST) of 2.370 and 2.468 eV, respectively. Both the NIPES for electron detachment to the S0 and T1 states exhibit well-resolved vibrational features, allowing for the assignment of several vibrational fundamental frequencies. Following deprotonation, several isomers are formed, with the most stable deprotonated radical anions in 1-CNN and 2-CNN, corresponding to the removal of the most acidic proton, with EAs of 2.062 and 2.16 eV. The rich spectroscopic and thermochemical data obtained in the current study make the CNN radical anions and their deprotonated species interesting systems for investigation in gas-phase, negative-ion experiments. In the liquid phase of heterogeneous catalysis, solvent plays an important role and governs the kinetics and thermodynamics of a reaction. Although it is often difficult to quantify the role of the solvent, it becomes particularly challenging when a zeolite is used as the catalyst. This difficulty arises from the complex nature of the liquid/zeolite interface and the different solvation environments around catalytically active sites. Here, we use ab initio molecular dynamics simulations to probe the local solvation structure and dynamics of methanol and water over MWW zeolite nanosheets with varying Brønsted acidity. We find that the zeolite framework and the number and location of the acid sites in the zeolite influence the structure and dynamics of the solvent. In particular, methanol is more likely to be in the vicinity of the aluminum (Al3+) at the T4 site than at T1 due to easy accessibility. The methanol oxygen binds strongly to the Al at the T4 site, weakening the Al–O for the bridging acid site, which results in the formation of the silanol group, significantly reducing the acidity of the site. The behavior of methanol is in direct contrast to that of water, where protons can easily propagate from the zeolite to the solvent molecules regardless of the acid site location. Our work provides molecular-level insights into how solvent interacts with zeolite surfaces, leading to an improved understanding of the catalytic site in the MWW zeolite nanosheet. Employers face many dilemmas in effectively implementing work–life flexibility to support employees' personal lives. A key issue is that some employees hold jobs with limited opportunities for work–life flexibility, making them susceptible to burnout; yet most employers believe they can do little to mitigate this dynamic. Furthermore, even when employees hold jobs with greater access to work–life flexibility, some do not take advantage of their flexibility to more fully engage in work and/or home roles. These issues are further exacerbated when supervisors are unsure of their role in supporting work–life flexibility. We identify work–life supportive context as a key factor that provides solutions to these dilemmas. Drawing on job demands resources theory, we posit that, when organizations provide work–life supportive training to supervisors, it promotes a work–life supportive context (i.e., signaling that the organization is supportive of employees' managing their work–life interface), which mitigates burnout for those with limited work–life flexibility and promotes engagement in work and home roles for those with greater work–life flexibility. Results from a year‐long randomized field experiment suggest that, in contexts with trained supervisors and lower employee control over work schedules and boundaries (i.e., lower work–life flexibility), emotional exhaustion is reduced. In contexts with trained supervisors and higher employee control over work boundaries (i.e., higher work–life flexibility), family engagement increases. Surprisingly, irrespective of job access to work‐life flexibility, supervisor participation in work–life support training did not enhance employee work engagement. Concussion rates are commonly reported in high school and National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) sports. Given that participation in collegiate recreation is on the rise, institutions should examine concussion rates within their recreational programs. We, therefore, retrospectively examined a recreational department's injury reports establishing concussion rates across (n = 16) club and (n = 10) intramural sports at a public university in the southeastern United States from 2016 to 2019. One hundred and thirty-five concussions (club n = 56; intramural n = 79) were identified and constituted 12.4% of documented injuries (n = 1,088). The intramural concussion rate was 0.57 per 1,000 athletic exposures (AEs) and AE was greatest in outdoor soccer (0.99 per 1,000 AE). Therefore, our data suggests an increased incidence of concussions in intramurals compared to published rates in NCAA and high school sports. Introduction: Previous evidence indicates that gestational hypoxia disrupts cerebrovascular development, increasing the risk of intracranial hemorrhage and stroke in the newborn. Due to the role of cytosolic Ca2+ in regulating vascular smooth muscle (VSM) tone and fetal cerebrovascular blood flow, understanding Ca2+ signals can offer insight into the pathophysiological disruptions taking place in hypoxia-related perinatal cerebrovascular disease. This study aimed to determine the extent to which gestational hypoxia disrupts local Ca2+ sparks and whole-cell Ca2+ signals and coupling with BKCa channel activity. Methods: Confocal imaging of cytosolic Ca2+ and recording BKCa currents of fetal sheep middle cerebral arterial (MCA) myocytes was performed. MCAs were isolated from term fetal sheep (∼140 days of gestation) from ewes held at low- (700 m) and high-altitude (3,801 m) hypoxia (LTH) for 100+ days of gestation. Arteries were depolarized with 30 mM KCl (30K), in the presence or absence of 10 μM ryanodine (Ry), to block RyR mediated Ca2+ release. Results: Membrane depolarization increased Ry-sensitive Ca2+ spark frequency in normoxic and LTH groups along with BKCa activity. LTH reduced Ca2+ spark and whole-cell Ca2+ activity and induced a large leftward shift in the voltage-dependence of BKCa current activation. The influence of LTH on the spatial and temporal aspects of Ca2+ sparks and whole-cell Ca2+ responses varied. Discussion: Overall, LTH attenuates Ca2+ signaling while increasing the coupling of Ca2+ sparks to BKCa activity; a process that potentially helps maintain oxygen delivery to the developing brain. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) reactivation post‐allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (post‐alloHCT) increases morbidity and mortality. We sought to determine the frequency of CMV seroconversion in patients pre‐alloHCT and to investigate the impact on posttransplant outcomes. We retrospectively investigated 752 adult patients who underwent alloHCT at our center from January 2015 to February 2020 before the adoption of letermovir prophylaxis. CMV serology was assessed at consult and pretransplant. The cohort was divided into four groups based on pretransplant CMV seroconversion: negative to positive (Group 1), positive to negative (Group 2), consistently negative (Group 3), and consistently positive (Group 4). Eighty‐nine patients (12%) had seroconverted from negative to positive, 17 (2%) from positive to negative, 151 (20%) were consistently seronegative, and 495 (66%) were consistently seropositive pretransplant. For the four CMV serostatus groups, cumulative incidence of CMV reactivation at 6 months posttransplant was 4.5%, 47.1%, 6.6%, and 76.6% for Groups 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively (p <.0001). No differences between groups were seen regarding Grade III–IV acute graft‐versus‐host disease (GVHD) (p =.91), moderate/severe chronic GVHD (p =.41), or graft failure (p =.28). On multivariable analysis, there was no impact of CMV serostatus group on overall survival (p =.67), cumulative incidence of relapse (p =.83) or non‐relapse mortality. alloHCT patients who demonstrate CMV seroconversion pretransplant from negative to positive have a very low risk of CMV reactivation posttransplant. The observed seroconversion may be due to passive CMV immunity acquired through blood products. Polaritonic states, which are formed by resonances between a molecular excitation and the photonic mode of a cavity, have a number of useful properties that offer new routes to control molecular photochemistry using electric fields. To provide a theoretical description of how polaritonic states affect the real-time electron dynamics in molecules, a new method is described where the effects of strong light–molecule coupling are implemented using real-time electronic structure theory. The coupling between the molecular electronic states and the cavity is described by the Pauli–Fierz Hamiltonian, and transitions between polaritonic states are induced via an external time-dependent electric field using time-dependent configuration interaction (TDCI) theory, producing quantum electrodynamics TDCI (QED-TDCI). This method is used to study laser-induced ultrafast charge transfer and dipole-switching dynamics of the LiCN molecule inside a cavity. The increase in cavity coupling strength is found to have a significant impact on the energies and transition dipole moments of the molecule–cavity system. This article introduces/rationalizes an attempt to conceptualize "environmental sports journalism (ESJ)." ESJ refers to a set of principles for analyzing and/or reporting on media coverage of sport-related environmental issues—principles intended to support/promote dialogue and nuanced thinking about these issues and about how sports journalism might contribute to environmentally friendly and just outcomes. To clarify features of ESJ and explore benefits/challenges of ESJ, we include illustrative examples of ESJ from media coverage of: (a) polluted harbor water used for the 2016 Rio Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games and (b) the razing of an ancient forest for a ski facility for the 2018 PyeongChang Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games. We conclude with reflections on the potential/limits of ESJ and suggestions for work on sport, journalism, and environmental issues. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The correlation consistent basis sets (cc-pVnZ with n = D, T, Q, 5) for the Ga–Br elements have been redesigned, tuning the sets for use for density functional approximations. Steps to redesign these basis sets for an improved correlation energy recovery and efficiency include truncation of higher angular momentum functions, recontraction of basis set coefficients, and reoptimization of basis set exponents. These redesigned basis sets are compared with conventional cc-pVnZ basis sets and other basis sets, which are, in principle, designed to achieve systematic improvement with respect to increasing basis set size. The convergence of atomic energies, bond lengths, bond dissociation energies, and enthalpies of formation to the Kohn–Sham limit is improved relative to other basis sets where convergence to the Kohn–Sham limit is typically not observed. Coping with the COVID-19 pandemic had implications for athletes' mental well-being. This mixed-methods study examined the influence of self-compassion on athletes' coping during the pandemic through the mediator of cognitive appraisal. The prospective design involved 90 athletes completing two online surveys 1 week apart measuring self-compassion, cognitive appraisal, and coping strategies. The PROCESS macro was used for the mediation analysis. A qualitative thematic analysis was used to explore athletes' responses to the pandemic during the second survey. Self-compassion had an indirect negative effect on avoidance-focused coping by appraising the pandemic as less of a threat (95% confidence interval [−0.20, −0.001]) and had a total effect on emotion-focused coping (95% confidence interval [0.02, 0.40]). Based on the thematic analysis, athletes described many raw emotions and a variety of coping strategies during the pandemic. This paper describes the design and optimization of a 10 ml cartridge for patient sample processing using a 3.5 GHz (empty resonant frequency) TM010 cylindrical microwave cavity. The cartridge has been designed to augment a novel approach for the rapid diagnosis of M. tuberculosis (the causative agent of Ttuberculosis), which uses the direct application of microwaves to a bacteria-containing sample to release pathogen-specific DNA. The target bacterial DNA is then captured and recovered using magnetic nanoparticles coated with pathogen-specific DNA probes. Excitation parameters were optimized using three surrogates for M. tuberculosis, namely, M. smegmatis, M. abscessus, and M. bovis suspended in water and simulated sputum. The paper also explores the mechanism of microwave-mediated DNA release from bacteria using scanning electron microscopy. Examination of bacteria exposed to microwaves at power levels known to mediate the release of DNA reveals no obvious signs of permanent cell disruption, suggesting that a more subtle interaction is taking place. Finally, the presence of microwave-liberated M. bovis DNA was able to be detected at a level of sensitivity comparable to that achieved using microscopy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Purpose: To examine socialization experiences of physical educators who deliver strength and conditioning (S&C) programming, particularly the development of subjective theories, expertise, orientations, and perceived mattering. Methods: Thirty-one secondary school physical educators providing S&C instruction/supervision as part of required duties completed in-depth interviews with Occupational Socialization Theory as a guiding framework for analysis. Results: Themes developed were (a) acculturation and organizational socialization influence beliefs, (b) S&C professional development is scarce, (c) S&C in physical education is a sporting endeavor, (d) blurred lines between teaching and coaching, and (e) S&C-related programs matter. Discussion: Physical educators delivering S&C programming lack adequate preservice preparation and professional development, and experience both role conflict and decreased marginalization. Physical education teacher education programs should offer more formal S&C training for safe and effective instruction/supervision. Purpose: The purpose was to examine secondary physical education teachers' strength and conditioning (SC) knowledge and evaluate associations between SC teaching role, professional preparation, and development. Method: A knowledge survey was developed/validated and distributed to 2,189 middle/high school teachers, with 605 providing complete data. Results: Seventy-five percent of participants reported serving an SC-related teaching role, and mean SC knowledge was 6.77 correct out of 15 (45%). Participants with SC certification, who taught an SC unit/course, who supervised an SC sport program, and who taught in high school performed significantly better. Physical education teacher education preparation, including exercise physiology and weightlifting activity courses, was a significant predictor of SC knowledge. Professional development, such as SC online coursework, meeting with SC professionals, and reading SC publications, was also a significant predictor. Conclusion: To support physical education teachers' SC knowledge, physical education teacher education programs should include SC-related course offerings, and school administrators should consider offering professional development to physical education teachers who serve in SC roles. Real-time (RT) electronic structure methods provide a natural framework for describing light–matter interactions in arbitrary time-dependent electromagnetic fields (EMF). Optically induced excited state transitions are of particular interest, which require tuned EMF to drive population transfer to and from the specific state(s) of interest. Intersystem crossing, or spin-flip, may be driven through shaped EMF or laser pulses. These transitions can result in long-lived "spin-trapped" excited states, which are especially useful for materials requiring charge separation or protracted excited state lifetimes. Time-dependent configuration interaction (TDCI) is unique among RT methods in that it may be implemented in a basis of eigenstates, allowing for rapid propagation of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. The recent spin–orbit TDCI (TD-SOCI) enables a real-time description of spin-flip dynamics in an arbitrary EMF and, therefore, provides an ideal framework for rational pulse design. The present study explores the mechanism of multiple spin-flip pathways for a model transition metal complex, FeCO, using shaped pulses designed to drive controlled intersystem crossing and charge transfer. Athletic spaces are often perceived as unwelcoming by sexual minority (SM) athletes, contributing to disparities in sports persistence in early adulthood. Further examination of how SM navigate decisions about sports participation during the transition to college is needed to develop and maintain inclusive campus athletic offerings, including recreational sports. By analyzing interview data from 23 SM college students, we found that SM find supportive athletic community through important vetting of these spaces prior to initiation. SM look at two aspects of a program's makeup—its' values and visible diversity of its members—through one's own personal "vibe check" either in-person or online. SM men in particular look for gender "outsiders," as all-male spaces threaten their perceived safety. Among those who had previously dropped out of sports, finding mixed-gender teams through this vetting process provided promise for an eventual return to sport, highlighting the importance of recreational sports in engaging underrepresented groups of athletes. College years are a formative life stage; however, students who identify as a sexual minority participate in insufficient physical activity. This study examined differences in level of comfort 1) with/in campus recreation facilities overall, and 2) using specific amenities, by sexual orientation. Students at four public universities completed online surveys assessing perceived comfort using their campus recreation facility. Among participants (n = 160), Kruskal-Wallis analyses showed comfort using campus recreation facilities, free weights, non-intramural sports,and intramural sports was significantly higher among heterosexual students compared to sexual minority students (all p < 0.005). These findings highlight inequities in comfort using campus recreation facilities and provide evidence of the need for inclusive recreation spaces for all students regardless of sexual orientation. Future research is needed to assess LBGTQ+ student's health disparities related to campus recreation facility use and how to increase perceived comfort for all students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background An mRNA-based respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine, mRNA-1345, is under clinical investigation to address RSV disease burden in older adults. Methods Based on a randomized, observer-blind, placebo-controlled design, this phase 1 dose-ranging study evaluated the safety, reactogenicity, and immunogenicity of mRNA-1345 in adults aged 65 to 79 years. Participants were randomized to receive 1 dose of mRNA-1345 (12.5, 25, 50, 100, or 200 µg) or placebo and matched mRNA-1345 booster or placebo at 12 months. Results Overall, 298 participants received the first injection and 247 received the 12-month booster injection. mRNA-1345 was generally well tolerated after both injections, with the most frequently reported solicited adverse reactions being injection site pain, fatigue, headache, arthralgia, and myalgia. Reactogenicity was higher after the booster injection but with severity, time to onset, and duration similar to the first injection. A single mRNA-1345 injection boosted RSV-A and RSV-B neutralizing antibody titers and prefusion F binding antibody (preF bAb) concentrations at 1 month (geometric mean fold rises: RSV-A, 10.2–16.5; RSV-B, 5.3–12.5; preF bAb, 7.2–12.1). RSV antibody levels remained above baseline through 12 months, indicating immune persistence. A 12-month booster injection also increased RSV-A and RSV-B neutralizing antibody titers and preF bAb concentrations; titers after booster injection were numerically lower than those after the first dose, with overlapping 95% CIs. Introduction: Contrary to stereotypes, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians are more likely to abstain from drinking than other Australians. We explored characteristics and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians who do not drink alcohol. Method: We conducted a cross‐sectional, representative survey of 775 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians (16+ years) in remote and urban South Australia. We explore correlates of not drinking alcohol using multi‐level logistic regression. We describe reasons for non‐drinking and harms participants experienced in past 12 months from others' drinking. Results: Non‐drinking participants were more likely to be older (OR 1.35 [95% CI 1.21, 1.50] per decade) and unemployed (OR 2.72 [95% CI 1.77, 4.20]). Participants who spoke Aboriginal Australian languages at home were three times more likely to be lifetime abstainers from drinking (OR 3.07 [95% CI 1.52, 6.21]). Common reasons for not drinking alcohol were health and family. Most did not report harms from others' alcohol consumption (79.6%, 76.9%, urban and remote respectively). Stress from others' alcohol consumption was the most reported harm by non‐drinkers (14.5% and 23.1%, urban and remote, respectively). Discussion and Conclusions: Culture such as speaking Aboriginal Australian languages might have protective effects that promote abstaining but was rarely explicitly cited as a reason for not drinking. A greater understanding of local values held by people who do not drink alcohol could help inform health messaging and other interventions to reduce alcohol‐related harms. In Canada, vaccine safety studies are often conducted at the provincial/territorial level where the primary data on vaccination reside. Combining health services data from multiple jurisdictions using a pooled data analytic approach would reduce the amount of time needed to detect vaccine safety signals. To determine the difference in the time it would take to identify safety signals using different proportions of the Canadian population, we conducted power and sample size calculations for a hypothetical self-controlled case series-based surveillance analysis. We used scenarios modeled after the real-world examples of myocarditis and vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia (VITT) following COVID-19 vaccination as our base cases. Our calculations demonstrated that in the case of a myocarditis-type event, a pooled analysis would reduce the time needed to detect a safety signal by over 60% compared to using Ontario data alone. In the case of a VITT-type event, a pooled analysis could detect a safety signal 49 days sooner than using Ontario data alone, potentially averting as many as 30 events. Our analysis demonstrates that there is substantial value in using pan-Canadian health services data to evaluate the safety of vaccines. Terrestrial groundwater travels through subterranean estuaries before reaching the sea. Groundwater‐derived nutrients drive coastal water quality, primary production, and eutrophication. We determined how dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), dissolved inorganic phosphorus (DIP), and dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) are transformed within subterranean estuaries and estimated submarine groundwater discharge (SGD) nutrient loads compiling > 10,000 groundwater samples from 216 sites worldwide. Nutrients exhibited complex, nonconservative behavior in subterranean estuaries. Fresh groundwater DIN and DIP are usually produced, and DON is consumed during transport. Median total SGD (saline and fresh) fluxes globally were 5.4, 2.6, and 0.18 Tmol yr−1 for DIN, DON, and DIP, respectively. Despite large natural variability, total SGD fluxes likely exceed global riverine nutrient export. Fresh SGD is a small source of new nutrients, but saline SGD is an important source of mostly recycled nutrients. Creation of a knit fabric-based, stable sensor using dipping and encapsulation processes is feasible, but where deposition occurs in the structure is not yet well understood. Using two graphene treatments and three encapsulants applied to single jersey (100% wool, 100% cotton), relative merits of a range of surface characterization tools (e.g., photographic - optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, image analysis (pixel intensity, fiber dimensions), change in lightness (L*, ΔL*, ΔE),) and chemical tools (e.g. vibrational spectroscopy - infrared and Raman) were applied to determine evidence of the treatments. Fabrics, yarns extracted from the treated fabrics and fibers from yarns were each examined. Structure of the fabric, yarns in the fabric, and fibers in the yarns remained clearly identifiable using microscopic methods, suggesting these physical features were largely unchanged. With respect to probable chemical composition, Raman analysis was found preferable to FTIR. Conferring electrical conductivity directly on knit fabric by simple dipping and stabilizing is feasible. Deposition sites of graphene-related treatments and encapsulants have been identified, with some observed differences dependent on structure, whether fabric, yarn, or fiber. To establish the criterion‐assessed energy and fluid requirements of female netball players, 13 adult players from a senior Netball Super League squad were assessed over 14 days in a cross‐sectional design, representing a two‐ and one‐match microcycle, respectively. Total energy expenditure (TEE) and water turnover (WT) were measured by doubly labeled water. Resting and activity energy expenditure were measured by indirect calorimetry and Actiheart, respectively. Mean 14‐day TEE was 13.46 ± 1.20 MJ day−1 (95% CI, 12.63–14.39 MJ day−1). Resting energy expenditure was 6.53 ± 0.60 MJ day−1 (95% CI, 6.17–6.89 MJ day−1). Physical activity level was 2.07 ± 0.19 arbitrary units (AU) (95% CI, 1.95–2.18 AU). Mean WT was 4.1 ± 0.9 L day−1 (95% CI, 3.6–4.7 L day−1). Match days led to significantly greater TEE than training (+2.85 ± 0.70 MJ day−1; 95% CI, +1.00– +4.70 MJ day−1; p = 0.002) and rest (+4.85 ± 0.70 MJ day−1; 95% CI, +3.13–+6.56 MJ day−1; p < 0.001) days. Matches led to significantly greater energy expenditure (+1.85 ± 1.27 MJ; 95% CI, +0.95–+2.76 MJ day−1; p = 0.001) than court‐based training sessions. There was no significant difference in TEE (+0.03 ± 0.35 MJ day−1; 95% CI, −0.74–+0.80 MJ day−1; p = 0.936) across weeks. Calibrated Actiheart 5 monitors underestimated TEE (−1.92 ± 1.21 MJ day−1). Energy and fluid turnover were greatest on match days, followed by training and rest days, with no difference across weeks. This study provides criterion‐assessed energy and fluid requirements to inform dietary guidance for female netball players. We conducted surveillance for carbapenem-resistant Enterobacterales (CRE) during 2016-2020 at 10 US sites and extended-spectrum β-lactamase-producing Enterobacterales (ESBL-E) during 2019-2020 at 6 US sites. Among 159 CRE cases in children (median age 5 years), CRE was isolated from urine for 131 (82.4%) and blood from 20 (12.6%). Annual CRE incidence rate (cases/100,000 population) was 0.47-0.87. Among 207 ESBLE cases in children (median age 6 years), ESBL-E was isolated from urine of 196 (94.7%) and blood of 8 (3.9%). Annual ESBL-E incidence rate was 26.5 in 2019 and 19.63 in 2020. CRE and ESBL-E rates were >2-fold higher among infants than other age groups. Most CRE and ESBL-E cases were healthcare-associated community-onset (68 [43.0%] for CRE vs. 40 [23.7%] for ESBL-E) or community- associated (43 [27.2%] for CRE vs. 109 [64.5%] for ESBL-E). Organisational effectiveness is a vital component of universities and other organisations because it leads to various positive outcomes, including customer satisfaction, employee relationships, improved business processes, learning and growth, and profitability. However, despite its importance, Ugandan universities are currently struggling with low levels of organizational effectiveness. Therefore, this study assessed the influence of institutional culture on organisational effectiveness of selected public universities in Uganda. Specifically, the study assessed the influence of artefacts, espoused belief and values and basic underlying assumptions culture dimensions on organisational effectiveness. The study employed a quantitative approach, utilizing a correlational research design. With a small population of 265, the researchers aimed to survey the entire population although those who provided responses were 231 participants. The data were collected using a close-ended selfadministered questionnaire. The data were analysed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) using SmartPls to test casual linkages between the variables. The results indicated that espoused beliefs and values, and basic underlying assumptions had a positive and significant impact on organisational effectiveness in public universities. Mechanical ventilation contributes to the morbidity and mortality of patients in intensive care, likely through the exacerbation and dissemination of inflammation. Despite the proximity of the pleural cavity to the lungs and exposure to physical forces, little attention has been paid to its potential as an inflammatory source during ventilation. Here, we investigate the pleural cavity as a novel site of inflammation during ventilator-induced lung injury. Mice were subjected to low or high tidal volume ventilation strategies for up to 3 hours. Ventilation with a high tidal volume significantly increased cytokine and total protein levels in BAL and pleural lavage fluid. In contrast, acid aspiration, explored as an alternative model of injury, only promoted intraalveolar inflammation, with no effect on the pleural space. Resident pleural macrophages demonstrated enhanced activation after injurious ventilation, including upregulated ICAM-1 and IL-1β expression, and the release of extracellular vesicles. In vivo ventilation and in vitro stretch of pleural mesothelial cells promoted ATP secretion, whereas purinergic receptor inhibition substantially attenuated extracellular vesicles and cytokine levels in the pleural space. Finally, labeled protein rapidly translocated from the pleural cavity into the circulation during high tidal volume ventilation, to a significantly greater extent than that of protein translocation from the alveolar space. Overall, we conclude that injurious ventilation induces pleural cavity inflammation mediated through purinergic pathway signaling and likely enhances the dissemination of mediators into the vasculature. This previously unidentified consequence of mechanical ventilation potentially implicates the pleural space as a focus of research and novel avenue for intervention in critical care. Recent breakthroughs in the development of mRNA vaccines, exemplified by the success of COVID-19 vaccines, have accelerated their application in oncology. The mRNA platform's versatility allows for the rapid adaptation of vaccine candidates to various cancer types, presenting an agile and promising avenue for therapeutic intervention. Summary: In wireless communication, impulsive noise often degrades channel quality, which poses challenges for equalizers. Although robust equalization methods offer some effectiveness, the occurrence of impulsive noise after training significantly impacts the symbol error rate (SER). To mitigate this issue, we propose a method that involves denoising the received signal using robust wavelet decomposition before equalization. This approach combines the discrete wavelet transform with median and morphological filters to reduce impulsive noise. A pre‐impulsive noise detection mechanism triggers denoising only when impulsive noise is detected. We evaluate the SER performance of the proposed technique using simulations of a 16‐QAM orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system with kernel interpolation‐based frequency domain equalization (FDE) in a Rayleigh fading channel with impulsive noise. Results show that our approach achieves SER levels comparable to conventional methods in Gaussian noise scenarios, demonstrating its effectiveness in challenging wireless communication environments. The study aimed to determine the relationship between teachers' awareness and school responsiveness to the Child Protection Policy. Specifically, it sought to: (1) determine the level of teachers' awareness of the Child Protection Policy in Region X Schools, (2) assess the level of school responsiveness towards the Child Protection Policy, and (3) examine the significant relationship between teachers' awareness and school responsiveness to the Child Protection Policy. The study utilized a descriptive correlational design with a convenience sampling technique involving 120 teacher respondents. The researchers adopted a questionnaire that underwent validity and reliability testing. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and Pearson correlation coefficient. In this background, we also revisit the state of ocean remote sensing through analysis of 20,973 research documents identified from SCOPUS databases published through 1967–2023, as a contribution to the UN Ocean Decade.
