Objectives: To establish and evaluate an ultra-fast MRI screening protocol for prostate cancer (PCa) in comparison to the standard multiparametric (mp) protocol, reducing scan time and maintaining adequate diagnostic performance. Materials and methods: This prospective single-center study included consecutive biopsy-naïve patients with suspected PCa between December 2022 and March 2023. A PI-RADSv2.1 conform mpMRI protocol was acquired in a 3 T scanner (scan time: 25 min 45 sec). In addition, two deep-learning (DL) accelerated sequences (T2- and diffusion-weighted) were acquired, serving as a screening protocol (scan time: 3 min 28 sec). Two readers evaluated image quality and the probability of PCa regarding PI-RADSv2.1 scores in two sessions. The diagnostic performance of the screening protocol with mpMRI serving as the reference standard was derived. Inter- and intra-reader agreements were evaluated using weighted kappa statistics. Results: We included 77 patients with 97 lesions (mean age: 66 years; SD: 7.7). Diagnostic performance of the screening protocol was excellent with a sensitivity and specificity of 100%/100% and 89%/98% (cut-off ≥ PI-RADS 4) for reader 1 (R1) and reader 2 (R2), respectively. Mean image quality was 3.96 (R1) and 4.35 (R2) for the standard protocol vs. 4.74 and 4.57 for the screening protocol (p < 0.05). Inter-reader agreement was moderate (κ: 0.55) for the screening protocol and substantial (κ: 0.61) for the multiparametric protocol. Conclusion: The ultra-fast screening protocol showed similar diagnostic performance and better imaging quality compared to the mpMRI in under 15% of scan time, improving efficacy and enabling the implementation of screening protocols in clinical routine. Clinical relevance statement: The ultra-fast protocol enables examinations without contrast administration, drastically reducing scan time to 3.5 min with similar diagnostic performance and better imaging quality. This facilitates patient-friendly, efficient examinations and addresses the conflict of increasing demand for examinations at currently exhausted capacities. Verbal accounts, supported by limited ground‐based and satellite images, reveal decreasing riparian woodland and a loss of large trees along the rivers of the Kruger National Park (KNP, South Africa) over the last century. A multi‐decadal analysis was conducted to identify trends in extent and possible drivers of riparian woodland change. Aerial and satellite imagery (1936–2018) were used to quantify changes in the extent of riparian woodland at 18 sites on 14 rivers in KNP. These changes were compared in a multivariate time‐series with river flow and local rainfall. Particular attention was paid to cumulative flow effects, as well as the frequency and magnitude of large infrequent disturbances such as droughts and floods. Riparian tree cover fluctuated over the time period, and the trajectory of change varied between sites. Most (11) sites experienced a decrease in overall riparian tree cover over ~80 years, with these declines being significant at six sites. Peak flow and maximum rainfall events were strongly associated with these decreases, indicating that flood events are potentially the biggest driver of tree loss from the system. Indeed, the mega‐flood event of 2000 and subsequent large floods have resulted in substantial declines in riparian woodland extent in recent decades. Alternatively, flow variability and cumulative rainfall significantly influenced woodland expansion in isolated cases. With global change models predicting more erratic rainfall and an increased likelihood of large infrequent disturbances, together with increasing demands to abstract more water, the long‐term future of these dynamic habitats and their associated biota here is uncertain. The low-frequency modal and non-modal linear dynamics of an incompressible, pressure-gradient-induced turbulent separation bubble (TSB) are investigated, with the objective of studying the mechanism responsible for the low-frequency contraction and expansion (breathing) commonly observed in experimental studies. The configuration of interest is a TSB generated on a flat test surface by a succession of adverse and favourable pressure gradients. The base flow selected for the analysis is the average TSB from the direct numerical simulation of Coleman et al. (J. Fluid Mech. , vol. 847, 2018, pp. 28–70). Global mode analysis reveals that the eigenmodes of the linear operator are damped for all frequencies and wavenumbers. Furthermore, the least damped eigenmode appears to occur at zero frequency and low, non-zero spanwise wavenumber when scaled with the separation length. Resolvent analysis is then employed to examine the forced dynamics of the flow. At low frequency, a region of low, non-zero spanwise wavenumber is also discernible, where the receptivity appears to be driven by the identified weakly damped global mode. The corresponding optimal energy gain is shown to have the shape of a first-order, low-pass filter with a cut-off frequency consistent with the low-frequency unsteadiness in TSBs. The results from resolvent analysis are compared to the unsteady experimental database of Le Floc'h et al. (J. Fluid Mech. , vol. 902, 2020, A13) in a similar TSB flow. The alignment between the optimal response and the first spectral proper orthogonal decomposition mode computed from the experiments is shown to be close to $95\,\%$ , while the spanwise wavenumber of the optimal response is consistent with that of the low-frequency breathing motion captured experimentally. This indicates that the fluctuations observed experimentally at low frequency closely match the response computed from resolvent analysis. Based on these results, we propose that the forced dynamics of the flow, driven by the weakly damped global mode, serve as a plausible mechanism for the origin of the low-frequency breathing motion commonly observed in experimental studies of TSBs. Purpose: Within families affected by parental cancer, open communication impacts the well-being of parents and their children; however, limited research exists on communication patterns in these families. This sub-study addresses this through the Family-SCOUT study, a multicenter, prospective, interventional, and non-randomized investigation with intervention (IG) and control group (CG). The purpose of this sub-study was to identify and compare the differences in communication patterns between the IG and CG as part of the process evaluation. The research question was addressed in both groups: What communication patterns do healthy parents perceive within their families? Methods: Using a qualitative approach, the study involved interviewing healthy parents as surrogates for their families. The interviews were audio-recorded, transcribed, and coded using a template analysis. The resulting data were analyzed at the group level. Results: Twenty-three interviews were conducted in the IG and 27 interviews in the CG. The analysis of themes centered on communication patterns as seen in the family structure. Both groups exhibited instances of open communication about fears and wishes as well as the use of child-friendly language when discussing cancer. Notable differences were observed: challenges in open communication with children were sorely reported in CG interviews, and “the illness is discussed when necessary” was sorely described in IG interviews. We propose a novel method to reconstruct mean velocity fields of turbulent shockwave–boundary layer interactions (SBLIs) from background-oriented schlieren (BOS) measurement data using physics-informed neural networks (PINNs). By embedding the compressible Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes equations into the PINN loss function, we recover a full set of physical variables from only the density gradient as training data. This technique has the potential to generate velocity fields similar to particle image velocimetry (PIV) results from usually simpler planar BOS measurements, at the cost of some computational resources. We analyze our method's capabilities on two oblique SBLI cases: a high-fidelity Mach 2.28 direct numerical simulation dataset for validation and a Mach 2.0 wind tunnel experiment. We demonstrate the positive impact of different wall boundary constraints such as the wall shear stress and pressure distribution for enhancing the PINN's convergence toward physically accurate solutions. The predicted fields are compared with experimental PIV and other point measurements, while we discuss the accuracy, limitations, and broader implications of our approach for SBLI research. Background: Cryoballoon ablation for atrial fibrillation (AF) requires adequate contact between the pulmonary vein (PV) antrum and cryoballoon. The surge of intraballoon pressure during the initial phase of ablation may change the balloon's shape and compliance, resulting in balloon dislodgement and loss of PV occlusion. Without continuous monitoring, this phenomenon is often undetected but can be associated with incomplete PV isolation (PVI). Methods: Primary cryoablation of AF was performed in 15 patients. PV occlusion status pre‐ and post‐freezing were analyzed with intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) and dielectric imaging‐based occlusion tool (DIOT) to calculate the incidence of expansion dislodgement of cryoballoon. Results: A total of 105 cryoablation applications were performed on 57 veins, including three common ostiums of left pulmonary veins. In the evaluation of PV occlusion, both modalities reported consistent results in 86.7% of the assessments. Despite complete PV occlusion before ablation, peri‐balloon leak after initiation of freezing was detected by ICE in 5/22 (22.7%) applications and by DIOT in 8/25 (32%) applications. Conclusion: Incidence of expansion dislodgement of the cryoballoon was detected in one‐fourth to one‐third of cryoablation applications depending on the imaging modality used, which was clinically frequent and significant. Introduction: The circular catheter compatible with current cryoballoon system for atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation is exclusively sensed by impedance‐based electro‐anatomical mapping (EAM) system, limiting the accuracy of maps. We aim to investigate the feasibility and safety of a magnetic‐based circular mapping catheter for AF ablation with cryoballoon. Methods: Nineteen consecutive patients who underwent pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) with cryoballoon for paroxysmal or persistent AF were included. EAMs of left atrium (LA) created by the LASSOSTAR™NAV catheter (Lassostar map) before and after PVI were compared to that generated by a high‐density mapping catheter (Pentaray map) from different aspects including structural similarity, PV angle, LA posterior wall (LAPW) and low voltage areas (LVAs), and the amplitude of far field electrograms (FFEs) recorded by catheters. Results: All patients had successful PVI without major complications. With similar mapping time and density, the LA volume calculated from the Pentaray map and Lassostar map were comparable. There were no significant differences in PV angle of all PVs and PW area (16.8 ± 3.2 vs. 17.1 ± 2.8, p =.516) between Pentaray map and Lassostar map. High structural similarity score was observed between two maps (0.783 in RAO/LAO view and 0.791 in PA view). Lassostar map detected lesser but not statistically significant extension of LVA (13.9% vs. 18.3%, p =.07). Amplitude of FFE was larger at the right superior PV on Lassostar map (0.21 ± 0.16 vs. 0.14 ± 0.11 mV, p =.041) compared to that on the Pentaray map. Conclusion: In our initial experience, PVI with cryoballoon and magnetic‐based circular LASSOSTAR™NAV catheter was safe and effective based on the accurate LA geometry it created. In this article, we address the capabilities of physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) in assimilating the experimentally acquired mean flow of a turbulent separation bubble occurring in a diffuser test section. The training database contains discrete mean pressure and wall shear-stress fields measured on the diffuser surface as well as three-component velocity vectors obtained with particle image velocimetry throughout the volumetric flow domain. Imperfections arise from the measurement uncertainty and the inability to acquire velocity data in the near-wall region. We show that the PINN methodology is suited to handle both of these issues thanks to the incorporation of the underlying physics that, in the present study, are taken into account by minimizing residuals of the three-dimensional incompressible Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations. As a result, measurement errors are rectified and near-wall velocity profiles are predicted reliably. The latter benefits from the incorporation of wall shear-stress data into the PINN training, which has not been attempted so far to the best of our knowledge. In addition to demonstrating the influence of this novel loss term, we provide a three-dimensional, highly resolved, and differentiable model of a separating and reattaching flow that can be readily used in future studies. The care of patients with heart rhythm disorders is often dependent on technologies developed to address their unique clinical needs. Although much innovation occurs in the United States, recent decades have seen a significant proportion of early clinical studies performed outside the United States, driven largely by costly and time‐inefficient processes seemingly inherent to the United States research ecosystem. As a result, the goals of early patient access to novel devices to address unmet needs and efficient technology development in the United States remain incompletely realized. This review will introduce key aspects of this discussion, organized by the Medical Device Innovation Consortium, in an effort to broaden awareness and encourage engagement by stakeholders in an effort to address central issues and therefore further a growing effort to shift Early Feasibility Studies to the United States for the benefit of all involved. Background: The use of a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) in patients with advanced heart failure refractory to optimal medical management has progressed steadily over the past two decades. Data have demonstrated reduced LVAD efficacy, worse clinical outcome, and higher mortality for patients who experience significant ventricular tachyarrhythmia (VTA). We hypothesize that a novel prophylactic intra‐operative VTA ablation protocol at the time of LVAD implantation may reduce the recurrent VTA and adverse events postimplant. Methods: We designed a prospective, multicenter, open‐label, randomized‐controlled clinical trial enrolling 100 patients who are LVAD candidates with a history of VTA in the previous 5 years. Enrolled patients will be randomized in a 1:1 fashion to intra‐operative VTA ablation (n = 50) versus conventional medical management (n = 50) with LVAD implant. Arrhythmia outcomes data will be captured by an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) to monitor VTA events, with a uniform ICD programming protocol. Patients will be followed prospectively over a mean of 18 months (with a minimum of 9 months) after LVAD implantation to evaluate recurrent VTA, adverse events, and procedural outcomes. Secondary endpoints include right heart function/hemodynamics, healthcare utilization, and quality of life. Conclusion: The primary aim of this first‐ever randomized trial is to assess the efficacy of intra‐operative ablation during LVAD surgery in reducing VTA recurrence and improving clinical outcomes for patients with a history of VTA. The Formosa Satellite‐7/Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere, and Climate‐2 (FORMOSAT‐7/COSMIC‐2, F7/C2) Tri‐GNSS Radio Occultation System observes both Global Positioning System (GPS) and GLObalnaya NAvigazionnaya Sputnikovaya Sistema (GLONASS) slant total electron content (TEC). Space‐based TEC observations have historically relied on GPS signals, and the processing methodologies and data quality of GLONASS absolute TEC observations are thus less well established. We present a description of the differences in the processing for the F7/C2 GLONASS absolute TEC observations. This primarily entails estimation of a paired receiver‐transmitter differential code bias, which is needed due to the GLONASS usage of frequency‐division multiple access. We additionally perform a validation of the F7/C2 GLONASS absolute TEC observations through comparison with colocated F7/C2 GPS absolute TEC observations. Based on this comparison, we estimate the GLONASS absolute TEC error to be ∼2.6 TEC units (TECU), which is similar to previous estimates of the F7/C2 GPS absolute TEC error (∼2.5 TECU). This demonstrates that the F7/C2 GLONASS absolute TEC observations are generally similar in quality to the F7/C2 GPS absolute TEC observations, and are suitable for use by the operational and scientific communities. Background: Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and associated with poor outcome after myocardial infarction (MI). In T2DM, cardiac metabolic flexibility, i.e. the switch between carbohydrates and lipids as energy source, is disturbed. The RabGTPase-activating protein TBC1D4 represents a crucial regulator of insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in skeletal muscle by controlling glucose transporter GLUT4 translocation. A human loss-of-function mutation in TBC1D4 is associated with impaired glycemic control and elevated T2DM risk. The study's aim was to investigate TBC1D4 function in cardiac substrate metabolism and adaptation to MI. Methods: Cardiac glucose metabolism of male Tbc1d4-deficient (D4KO) and wild type (WT) mice was characterized using in vivo [18F]-FDG PET imaging after glucose injection and ex vivo basal/insulin-stimulated [3H]-2-deoxyglucose uptake in left ventricular (LV) papillary muscle. Mice were subjected to cardiac ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). Heart structure and function were analyzed until 3 weeks post-MI using echocardiography, morphometric and ultrastructural analysis of heart sections, complemented by whole heart transcriptome and protein measurements. Results: Tbc1d4-knockout abolished insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in ex vivo LV papillary muscle and in vivo cardiac glucose uptake after glucose injection, accompanied by a marked reduction of GLUT4. Basal cardiac glucose uptake and GLUT1 abundance were not changed compared to WT controls. D4KO mice showed mild impairments in glycemia but normal cardiac function. However, after I/R D4KO mice showed progressively increased LV endsystolic volume and substantially increased infarction area compared to WT controls. Cardiac transcriptome analysis revealed upregulation of the unfolded protein response via ATF4/eIF2α in D4KO mice at baseline. Transmission electron microscopy revealed largely increased extracellular matrix (ECM) area, in line with decreased cardiac expression of matrix metalloproteinases of D4KO mice. Conclusions: TBC1D4 is essential for insulin-stimulated cardiac glucose uptake and metabolic flexibility. Tbc1d4-deficiency results in elevated cardiac endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-stress response, increased deposition of ECM and aggravated cardiac damage following MI. Biofilm formation of Listeria monocytogenes on stainless steel, a widely used abiotic surface in the food processing industry, was investigated by focusing on the attachment tendency and behavior of L. monocytogenes 08-5578 on eight different stainless steel surfaces: glass bead blasted (rough and fine), deburred (Timesaver), drum deburred, pickled, pickled and drum polished, electrolytic polished, and cold rolled (untreated control). The aim was to see whether there are finishes with significantly lower bacterial attachment. Surface roughness data (measured via four roughness parameters), determined by interferometry, was also compared with the number of adhering cells to detect possible correlations. Cultivation of L. monocytogenes biofilms was carried out using a CDC biofilm reactor with 1% tryptic soy broth set at 20°C for 4, 8, and 24 h. In addition, a cultivation trial was run with continuous nutrient flow (1% tryptic soy broth, 6.2 mL/min) for 24 h. Eight-hour results showed a significant difference (P < 0.05) in biofilm cell counts in biofilms between the glass bead–blasted surfaces (3.23 and 3.26 log CFU/cm2 for the fine and rough, respectively) and deburred (Timesaver) surface (2.57 log CFU/cm2), between drum deburred and deburred (Timesaver) surface (3.41 versus 2.57 log CFU/cm2), and between drum deburred and pickled surface (3.41 versus 2.77 log CFU/cm2). Data gained after 4-h, 24-h, and 24-h plus an additional 24-h continuous flow cultivation showed no significant difference in attachment among surfaces. No correlation between roughness data and attachment was found after all four incubation times, suggesting that roughness values, at these ranges, are insufficient in determining the surfaces' affinity to bacteria. The launches of the Sentinel‐1 synthetic aperture radar satellites in 2014 and 2016 started a new era of high‐resolution velocity and strain rate mapping for the continents. However, multiple challenges exist in tying independently processed velocity data sets to a common reference frame and producing high‐resolution strain rate fields. We analyze Sentinel‐1 data acquired between 2014 and 2019 over the northeast Tibetan Plateau, and develop new methods to derive east and vertical velocities with ∼100 m resolution and ∼1 mm/yr accuracy across an area of 440,000 km2. By implementing a new method of combining horizontal gradients of filtered east and interpolated north velocities, we derive the first ∼1 km resolution strain rate field for this tectonically active region. The strain rate fields show concentrated shear strain along the Haiyuan and East Kunlun Faults, and local contractional strain on fault junctions, within the Qilianshan thrusts, and around the Longyangxia Reservoir. The Laohushan‐Jingtai creeping section of the Haiyuan Fault is highlighted in our data set by extremely rapid strain rates. Strain across unknown portions of the Haiyuan Fault system, including shear on the eastern extension of the Dabanshan Fault and contraction at the western flank of the Quwushan, highlight unmapped tectonic structures. In addition to the uplift across most of the lowlands, the vertical velocities also contain climatic, hydrological or anthropogenic‐related deformation signals. We demonstrate the enhanced view of large‐scale active tectonic processes provided by high‐resolution velocities and strain rates derived from Sentinel‐1 data and highlight associated wide‐ranging research applications. Plain Language Summary: The new‐generation radar satellites permit the derivation of crustal velocities in fine resolution over continental scales. With the technical advancements developed in this study, we reveal unseen details of the crustal deformation over the earthquake‐prone Hexi Corridor in the northeast corner of the Tibetan Plateau. In particular, we observe concentrated elastic loading along, and at branch points of, major earthquake‐generating faults. The ability to monitor such phenomena is important for understanding future seismic hazard as such geometrical complexities along faults are often associated with earthquake triggering and termination. We also draw attention to previously unknown structures that are rapidly deforming. This new and enhanced view of the local tectonic setting could improve local seismic hazard assessment. Last but not least, we observe climatic, hydrological and anthropogenic signals in the vertical velocity field, which are related to permafrost thawing, blocked river drainage, mining, damming and the extraction of groundwater for farming. Overall, we demonstrate the wealth of information that can be derived from the rapidly growing space‐born Earth observation data, which are destined to play an important role in shaping a more resilient world for the future. Background  Distal lower extremity reconstruction can be challenging in terms of flap design. Bulky flaps result in limited mobility accompanied with the need of customized footwear. Raising the ALT-flap in a superficial fascial plane (thin ALT-flap) can be beneficial. This study evaluates thin ALT-flaps for lower distal extremity reconstruction. Methods  In a retrospective study, patients that underwent microvascular extremity reconstruction at the level of the ankle and dorsal foot at the University of Freiburg from 2008–2018 were reviewed. Results  95 patients could be included in the study (35 perforator flaps, 8 fascia flaps and 54 muscle flaps). Among the perforator flaps, 21 ALT-flaps were elevated conventionally and 14 in the superficial fascial plane (thin ALT-flap). Among the conventional ALT-flaps, there was one flap loss (5%) and one successful revision (5%). 5(24%) flaps received secondary thinning. 57%(n  = 12) were able to wear conventional footwear. There were 2(15%) successful revisions of thin ALT-flaps. 100% of thin ALT-flaps survived and 85%(n  = 11) of the patients wore ordinary footwear after defect coverage. Among fascial flaps, 50%(n  = 4) had to be revised with 2(25%) complete and 1 (13%) partial flap loss. All patients achieved mobility in ordinary shoes (n  = 8). In muscle flaps, there were 7(13%) revisions and 5(9%) flap losses. 5(9%) flaps received secondary thinning. Only 33%(n  = 18) were mobile in ordinary footwear. Conclusion  The thin ALT-flap is a save one-stage evolution for lower distal extremity reconstruction with a favorable flap survival rate. Compared with conventional ALT-flaps it might be beneficial in reducing the need for expensive custom fitted shoes and secondary thinning procedures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mindfulness-based approaches have been shown to be effective in improving the mental health of parents of youth and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities, but prior work suggests that geography and caregiving demands can make in-person attendance challenging. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability and preliminary outcomes of a mindfulness-based group intervention delivered to parents virtually. It was feasible to deliver this manualized intervention. Twenty-one of 39 parents completed the intervention and completers reported high satisfaction ratings. Parents reported reduced levels of distress, maintained at 3-month follow-up, and increased mindfulness. Changes reported following intervention were similar to changes reported in a prior study of parents competing an in person mindfulness group. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cuprate high-temperature superconductors (HTS), such as RE-Ba2Cu3O7−δ (REBCO, RE = rare earth), (Bi,Pb)2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10−x and Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8−x, have enabled the development of high-field superconducting magnets capable of generating magnetic fields far exceeding 20 T. The brittle nature of HTS requires elaborate means to protect them against the high stresses and strains associated with high-field magnet operation, and so far, has prevented reliable high-field HTS magnets from becoming a reality. Here we report a more than tenfold increase in the irreversible strain limit under axial tension (ϵirr) to over 7% in optimized high-current conductor on round core (CORC®) conductors, compared to the REBCO tapes from which the CORC® conductor is wound. Minimizing the tape winding pitch of the helical wind mechanically decouples the brittle REBCO film from the overall conductor. The REBCO tapes behave as springs, limiting the rate at which applied strain is transferred to the ceramic film. In addition, high-strength alloy cores allow the critical stress (ϵcrit) under axial tension at which initial degradation of CORC® conductors occurs to exceed 600 MPa, making them one of the strongest superconductors available. Mechanically decoupling the ceramic REBCO films from the overall CORC® conductor allows effective protection against the high operating stresses in high-field magnets. This breakthrough presents a monumental shift for HTS magnet technology, bringing reliable high-field superconducting magnets for compact fusion machines, the next generation of particle accelerators, and 40–60 T research solenoids within reach. Slant absolute total electron content (TEC) is observed by the Formosa Satellite‐7/Constellation Observing System for Meteorology, Ionosphere, and Climate‐2 (FORMOSAT‐7/COSMIC‐2, F7/C2) Tri‐GNSS Radio Occultation System (TGRS) instrument. We present details of the data processing algorithms, validation, and error assessment for the F7/C2 global positioning system (GPS) absolute TEC observations. The data processing includes estimation and application of solar panel dependent pseudorange multipath maps, phase to pseudorange leveling, and estimation of separate L1C‐L2C and L1C‐L2P receiver differential code biases. We additionally perform a validation of the F7/C2 GPS absolute TEC observations through comparison with colocated, independent, TEC observations from the Swarm‐B satellite. Based on this comparison, we conclude that the accuracy of the F7/C2 GPS absolute TEC observations is less than 3.0 TEC units. Results are also presented that illustrate the suitability of the F7/C2 GPS absolute TEC observations for studying the climatology and variability of the topside ionosphere and plasmasphere (i.e., altitudes above the F7/C2 orbit of ∼550 km). These results demonstrate that F7/C2 provides high quality GPS absolute TEC observations that can be used for ionosphere‐thermosphere data assimilation as well as scientific studies of the topside ionosphere and plasmasphere. The Eastern Mediterranean is the most seismically active region in Europe due to the complex interactions of the Arabian, African, and Eurasian tectonic plates. Deformation is achieved by faulting in the brittle crust, distributed flow in the viscoelastic lower-crust and mantle, and Hellenic subduction, but the long-term partitioning of these mechanisms is still unknown. We exploit an extensive suite of geodetic observations to build a kinematic model connecting strike-slip deformation, extension, subduction, and shear localization across Anatolia and the Aegean Sea by mapping the distribution of slip and strain accumulation on major active geological structures. We find that tectonic escape is facilitated by a plate-boundary-like, trans-lithospheric shear zone extending from the Gulf of Evia to the Turkish-Iranian Plateau that underlies the surface trace of the North Anatolian Fault. Additional deformation in Anatolia is taken up by a series of smaller-scale conjugate shear zones that reach the upper mantle, the largest of which is located beneath the East Anatolian Fault. Rapid north–south extension in the western part of the system, driven primarily by Hellenic Trench retreat, is accommodated by rotation and broadening of the North Anatolian mantle shear zone from the Sea of Marmara across the north Aegean Sea, and by a system of distributed transform faults and rifts including the rapidly extending Gulf of Corinth in central Greece and the active grabens of western Turkey. Africa–Eurasia convergence along the Hellenic Arc occurs at a median rate of 49.8 mm yr–1 in a largely trench-normal direction except near eastern Crete where variably oriented slip on the megathrust coincides with mixed-mode and strike-slip deformation in the overlying accretionary wedge near the Ptolemy–Pliny–Strabo trenches. Our kinematic model illustrates the competing roles the North Anatolian mantle shear zone, Hellenic Trench, overlying mantle wedge, and active crustal faults play in accommodating tectonic indentation, slab rollback and associated Aegean extension. Viscoelastic flow in the lower crust and upper mantle dominate the surface velocity field across much of Anatolia and a clear transition to megathrust-related slab pull occurs in western Turkey, the Aegean Sea and Greece. Crustal scale faults and the Hellenic wedge contribute only a minor amount to the large-scale, regional pattern of Eastern Mediterranean interseismic surface deformation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Superconducting cables based on high temperature superconductors (HTS) are necessary for applications requiring large currents and low inductance, such as compact fusion reactors. In this paper, we report the proof-of-concept of a SMART Conductor on Round Core (CORC®) wire realized via integration of optical fibers into the copper core. A SMART CORC® wire with integrated optical fibers was manufactured and its capabilities have been experimentally demonstrated. Results show that by interrogating the optical fibers via Rayleigh backscattering, a Spectral Shift signal as a function of time and position along the cable can be used to detect and locate hot-spots that are developed within the wire or its terminations. It has been found that highly localized current injection into the terminations could initiate hot-spots within the cable at locations where current redistribution between tapes occur. This effect is virtually eliminated when adequate current connections are used that inject current evenly along the cable terminations. Normal zone propagation velocities have been calculated as a function of time using Spectral Shift data for a heater-induced quench as well as a quench induced by overcurrent. In both cases the normal zone propagation velocity was about 6 cm s−1, but in the heater-induced experiment it was preceded by 500 ms of slower propagation at 2.5 cm s−1. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Patients with prior cardiac surgery may represent a subgroup of patients with ventricular tachycardia (VT) that may be more difficult to control with catheter ablation. Methods: We evaluated 1901 patients with ischemic and nonischemic cardiomyopathy who underwent VT ablation at 12 centers. Clinical characteristics and VT radiofrequency ablation procedural outcomes were assessed and compared between those with and without prior cardiac surgery. Kaplan–Meier analysis was used to estimate freedom from recurrent VT and survival. Results: There were 578 subjects (30.4%) with prior cardiac surgery identified in the cohort. Those with prior cardiac surgery were older (66.4 ± 11.0 years vs. 60.5 ± 13.9 years, p <.01), with lower left ventricular ejection fraction (30.2 ± 11.5% vs. 34.8 ± 13.6%, p <.01) and more ischemic heart disease (82.5% vs. 39.3%, p <.01) but less likely to undergo epicardial mapping or ablation (9.0% vs. 38.1%, p<.01) compared to those without prior surgery. When epicardial mapping was performed, a significantly greater proportion required surgical intervention for access (19/52 [36.5%] vs. 14/504 [2.8%]; p <.01). Procedural complications, including epicardial access‐related complications, were lower (5.7% vs. 7.0%, p <.01) in patients with versus without prior cardiac surgery. VT‐free survival (75.1% vs. 74.1%, p =.805) and survival (86.5% vs. 87.9%, p =.397) were not different between those with and without prior heart surgery, regardless of etiology of cardiomyopathy. VT recurrence was associated with increased mortality in patients with and without prior cardiac surgery. Conclusion: Despite different clinical characteristics and fewer epicardial procedures, the safety and efficacy of VT ablation in patients with prior cardiac surgery is similar to others in this cohort. The dynamic regulation of DNA methylation in postmitotic neurons is necessary for memory formation and other adaptive behaviors. Ten-eleven translocation 1 (TET1) plays a part in these processes by oxidizing 5-methylcytosine (5mC) to 5-hydroxymethylcytosine (5hmC), thereby initiating active DNA demethylation. However, attempts to pinpoint its exact role in the nervous system have been hindered by contradictory findings, perhaps due in part, to a recent discovery that two isoforms of the Tet1 gene are differentially expressed from early development into adulthood. Here, we demonstrate that both the shorter transcript (Tet1S) encoding an N-terminally truncated TET1 protein and a full-length Tet1 (Tet1FL) transcript encoding canonical TET1 are co-expressed in the adult mouse brain. We show that Tet1S is the predominantly expressed isoform and is highly enriched in neurons, whereas Tet1FL is generally expressed at lower levels and more abundant in glia, suggesting their roles are at least partially cell type-specific. Using viral-mediated, isoform and neuron-specific molecular tools, we find that the individual repression of each transcript leads to the dysregulation of unique gene ensembles and contrasting changes in basal synaptic transmission. In addition, Tet1S repression enhances, while Tet1FL impairs, hippocampal-dependent memory in male mice. Advanced magnet systems for fusion applications would greatly benefit from the use of high-temperature superconductors (HTS). These materials allow fusion magnets to operate at higher magnetic fields, allowing for more compact fusion machines, and allow for operation at elevated temperatures, enabling demountable coils that provide access for maintenance of the fusion reactor. Quench detection remains a major challenge in the protection of HTS magnets that are vulnerable to localized conductor burnout due to their low quench propagation velocities. One of the methods explored is the use of Hall sensors that are incorporated in or near the magnet terminations that can detect local field variations that occur as a result of current redistribution within the conductor to bypass a hotspot within the magnet winding. This method is potentially well suited for Cable in Conduit Conductors, such as those made from Conductor on Round Core (CORC) cables, in which sub-cables containing HTS tapes are connected to the terminations at a low resistance. To demonstrate the technique, a CORC® triplet consisting of three sub-cables, rated for 4 kA operation at 77 K, was manufactured and Hall sensors were used to measure local field variations next to the terminations due to current redistribution between the cables. The Hall response was compared to voltages that developed over the cables and terminations as a local hotspot was applied to different cables in the triplet. It was found that the Hall sensors were faster and more sensitive than voltage contact measurements and were able to reliably detect current redistribution of only a few amperes caused by a hotspot, well before the triplet exceeded its critical current. The method also allowed the detection of heater-induced hotspots during high ramp rates of 2 kA s−1 relevant for fusion applications. Hall sensors have a distinct benefit of being less sensitive to inductive pickup of AC interference compared to voltage contact measurements that make quench detection through voltage measurements in magnets especially challenging. The method can also be used for diagnostic measurements of current redistribution caused by other sources such as inhomogeneous current injection from faulty joints, or localized conductor damage. The Hall sensors are likely capable of detecting the onset of a quench that may occur a far distance away from the sensor location, presenting a breakthrough in HTS quench detection that potentially removes one of the remaining barriers to reliable operation of large HTS magnet systems. Many high-temperature superconductor (HTS) applications require superconducting cables with high currents while operating in an alternating magnetic field. HTS cables should be composed of numerous superconducting tapes to achieve the required current capacity. Alternating current and magnetic fields cause AC losses in such cables and can provoke conductor instability. AC losses and contact resistances were measured of several cable designs based on commercially available REBCO tapes at the University of Twente. The AC loss was measured under identical conditions for eight REBCO conductors manufactured according to three types of cabling methods—CORC® (Conductor on Round Core), Roebel, and stacked tape, including a full-size REBCO CICC (cable in conduit conductor). The measurements were done at T = 4.2 K without transport current in a sinusoidal AC magnetic field of 0.4 T amplitude and frequencies from 5 to 55 mHz. The AC loss was measured simultaneously by calibrated gas flow calorimeter utilizing the helium boil-off method and by the magnetization method using pick-up coils. Also, the AC loss of two CORC® conductors and a Roebel cable was measured at 77 K. Each conductor was measured with and without background field of 1 T. The measured AC coupling loss in the CORC® and Roebel conductors is negligible at 4.2 K for the applied conditions while at 77 K coupling loss was observed for all conductors. The absence of coupling loss at 4.2 K can be explained by shielding of the conductor interior; this is confirmed with measurement and calculation of the penetration field of CORC® and Roebel cables. The inter-tape contact resistance was measured for CORC® and stacked tape samples at 4.2 and 77 K. It was demonstrated that a short heat treatment of CORC® conductor with solder-coated tapes activates tape-to-tape soldering and decreases the contact resistance. The reduction of contact resistance by two orders in magnitude to tens of nΩm is comparable with the interstrand contact resistance in ITER Nb3Sn type conductors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Safe operation of large superconducting magnets wound from high-temperature superconductors (HTS) requires reliable detection of the onset of a quench. A novel method to integrate optical fibers and voltage wires within the core of multi-tape HTS CORC® wires has been developed that allows real time monitoring of local changes in strain, temperature and of the superconducting state of the magnet windings. The ability to detect highly localized changes in temperature with Rayleigh scattering in the embedded optical fibers provides invaluable information about local heating at hot spots from which a quench may originate. Integrated voltage contacts allow accurate voltage measurements in long CORC® wires without being affected by high current ramp rates or electromagnetic interference. They also allow detection of inductively driven redistribution of current between tapes in CORC® wires that may occur at high current ramp rates. Continuous monitoring of temperature and voltage was used to detect the formation of local hot spots induced by a heater or by operating the CORC® wire above its critical current. The results show that, within the boundary conditions of the experiment and the method by which the optical fibers were integrated into the CORC® wire in this study, the speed and resolution with which hot spots can be detected with optical fibers lagged that of the integrated voltage wires. This study also shows that integrated voltage wires reliably detected the formation of a local hot spot in a 5.1 meter long coiled CORC® wire, down to a hot spot size covering 0.1% of the conductor length and at current ramp rates as high as 2000 A s−1. Voltage measurements thus remain an effective option for quench detection in magnets wound with HTS conductors for which current sharing between tapes allows for operation within the flux flow regime. Aims: We conducted a statewide online survey to understand public knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) for mosquito-borne diseases and influenza in Arizona.Methods: The survey included knowledge of diseases, major health concerns, and sources of health information and KAP of NPIs for influenza and mosquito-borne diseases. Our team worked with Qualtrics®, an online survey company, to recruit a representative sample of 1500 adults in Arizona.Results: Of the 1531 respondents who completed the survey, most indicated that chronic conditions were their primary health concern (48%), with the other half split between infectious diseases (25%) and health effects of environmental conditions (26%). The majority (88%) of respondents indicated that they use the Internet to get their health information. Approximately one in eight people reported not emptying standing water and reducing potential mosquito habitats, despite respondents citing them as being the most effective factors in reducing mosquitoes. Regarding specific diseases, about half of the respondents were concerned about West Nile virus and/or Zika virus. Most (85%) people knew the signs and symptoms of influenza and 63% of people reported being likely to get the influenza shot. Those who did not vaccinate (n = 285) reported concerns that the vaccine would make them sick (41%), was ineffective (37%), or others indicated, 'I don't want to' (37%).Conclusions: Overall, respondents were most concerned with chronic conditions and received their information from the Internet. Knowledge about mosquito-borne diseases was low. There were high levels of acceptance and self-reported uptake of the influenza vaccine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Despite the recognised benefits of sport, participation is often reported to be low for youth with intellectual disability (ID). The current study was the first to longitudinally examine sport retention in this population, a critical aspect of ensuring participation. Methods: Study participants were parents/caregivers of athletes with ID involved in community Special Olympics (SO), 11–22 years of age (N = 345). Participants completed an online survey in 2012 that included caregiver demographic and athlete intrapersonal, interpersonal and broader contextual variables. Retention rates for 2019 were determined using the SO provincial registration lists. Results: Of the 345 survey participants, 81.7% remained active athletes in 2019. Caregiver demographic and athlete intrapersonal factors were largely unrelated to retention. In contrast, retention was associated with the frequency and number of sports athletes participated in, the perceived psychosocial gains of SO involvement and the environmental supports that were available to facilitate participation; frequency of sport participation was the strongest predictor of remaining a registered athlete. Conclusions: This study has implications for future initiatives aimed at increasing sport retention in a population that struggles to be engaged in sport. Efforts should focus on the athlete experience and sport‐specific factors. Coaches and caregivers can foster positive experiences and play an important role in continued sport participation. A novel method capable of assessing flow fields in a quick and relatively simple manner is introduced. In an extension to the classical qualitative flow visualization by means of cotton or polymeric tufts, digital data processing is used to extract the orientation of these tufts. This information can be related to physical quantities, in particular to time- and space-dependent velocity signals. The capability of this method is demonstrated in two test scenarios. First, it is applied to gain information on the unsteady near-wall flow along a turbulent separation bubble. Second, the two-component velocity field in the wake of a generic car model is measured, allowing for a quantification of the recirculation zone dimensions. Validation measurements with conventional techniques, e.g., particle image velocimetry, unsteady pressure measurements and hot wire anemometry, are conducted throughout the study. These generally suggest that the novel approach provides a quick and reasonably good quantitative overview of the flow configurations. The results presented in this Letter describe the successful test of the first high-temperature superconducting multi-tesla insert solenoid tested at currents exceeding 4 kA while operating in a background magnetic field of a low-temperature superconducting outsert magnet. A 45-turn insert solenoid, wound from 19 meters of CORC® cable, was designed to operate at high current, high current density, and high hoop stress in high magnetic background field; a combination that is essential in the development of low-inductance, high-field magnets. The CORC® cable insert solenoid was successfully tested in liquid helium in background magnetic fields of up to 14 T, resulting in a combined central magnetic field of 15.86 T and a peak magnetic field on the conductor of 16.77 T at a critical current of 4404 A, a winding current density of 169 A mm−2, an engineering current density of 282 A mm−2, and a JBr source stress of 275 MPa. Stable operation of the CORC® cable insert magnet in its superconducting-to-normal transition was demonstrated, during charging at rates of 20–50 A s−1, without inducing a quench. The results are a clear demonstration of the major benefits of this multi-tape CORC® magnet conductor in which current sharing between tapes is possible, thereby removing some of the stringent conductor requirements of single-tape magnets. The CORC® cable insert solenoid demonstrated operation at about 86% of the expected CORC® cable performance and showed no significant degradation after 16 high-current test cycles in background fields ranging from 10 to 14 T. CORC® cables have matured into practical and reliable high-field magnet conductors, achieving important high current, high current density, stress tolerance, and quench protection milestones for high field magnet technology. The unimolecular dissociation of the (v[sub 1],0,0) pure OH stretching states of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) in the ground electronic state is investigated for v[sub 1] = 6–9. The dynamics calculations are performed on an accurate potential energy surface and employ filter diagonalization in connection with an imaginary absorbing potential. The dependence of the linewidth (or dissociation rate) on the total angular momentum is emphasized. Resonance enhancements due to mixings with other vibrational states, which have substantially larger rates, are clearly observed—in qualitative agreement with recent measurements. The average width increases, in quantitative agreement with experiments, by four orders of magnitude, from 10&sup-4; cm&sup-1; for v[sub 1] = 6 to about 1 cm&sup-1; for v[sub 1] = 9. Aim: There is limited information regarding asthma triggers in World Trade Center (WTC) rescue and recovery workers (RRW) or how mental health conditions affect the perception of triggers. Methods: We included 372 WTC workers with asthma. The Asthma Trigger Inventory (ATI) assessed triggers along five domains: psychological, allergens, physical activity, infection, and pollution. We administered the Structured Clinical Interview to diagnose post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), major depression and panic disorder (PD). The Asthma Control Questionnaire (ACQ) and Mini Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ) measured asthma control and quality of life, respectively. Linear regression models were fitted to examine the association of ATI total and subdomain scores with mental health conditions as well as the percent of ACQ and AQLQ variance explained by ATI subscales. Results: The most common triggers were air pollution (75%) and general allergens (68%). PTSD was significantly associated with psychological triggers (partial r2=0.05, p < 0.01), physical activity (partial r2=0.03, p < 0.01) and air pollution (partial r2=0.02, p = 0.04) subscales while PD was significantly associated with air pollution (partial r2=0.03, p = 0.03) and general allergens (partial r2=0.02, p = 0.03). ATI subscales explained a large percentage of variance in asthma control (r2=0.37, p < 0.01) and quality of life scores (r2=0.40, p < 0.01). Psychological subscale scores explained the largest portion of the total variability in ACQ (partial r2= 0.11, p = 0.72) and AQLQ (partial r2=0.14, p = 0.64) scores. Conclusion: RRW with mental health conditions reported more asthma triggers and these triggers were associated with asthma morbidity. These data can help support interventions in RRW with asthma.
