Mechanisms underlying large‐scale spatial patterns of species richness are one of the central issues in ecology. Although contemporary climate, evolutionary history, and historical climate change have been proposed as drivers of species richness patterns, variation in the relative importance of different factors remains a major challenge. Here, using newly compiled distribution data with a spatial resolution of 100 × 100 km for 43 023 angiosperms plant species in east Eurasia, we mapped species richness patterns for plants with different growth forms (i.e. woody versus herbaceous) and range sizes (i.e. wide‐ranged versus narrow‐ranged species), and compared the relative importance of the four hypotheses in explaining these patterns, i.e. freezing tolerance hypothesis, historical climate change hypothesis, Janzen's hypothesis (predicting that climate seasonality and topography determine species richness patterns), and diversification rate hypothesis. We found that species richness of all angiosperm plants presented a clear latitudinal gradient and was highest in southwestern China and Central Asian mountains. Notably, species richness patterns and their dominant drivers differed between species groups. Historical climate change was the dominant driver for richness patterns of all and herbaceous species. The freezing tolerance hypothesis dominated the drivers for all woody species, while Janzen's hypothesis dominated narrow‐ranged woody and herbaceous species. Our study suggests that different hypotheses contribute to large‐scale plant richness patterns via their effects on different plant groups. Our results did not support the diversification rate hypothesis, but demonstrated the high importance of historical climate change to plant diversity in east Eurasia, providing new perspectives on the mechanisms of plant diversity patterns in this continent. Aim: Reproductive systems strongly influence plants' evolution and adaption, and the biogeographic pattern of its variation has intrigued biologists and ecologists. Here, to test the impacts of paleoglaciation on plants' reproductive system variation, we compared the geographical pattern and environmental drivers in the proportions of different reproductive systems in Primula in regions affected and unaffected by paleoglaciation. Location: Global. Time Period: Since the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). Major Taxa Studied: Primula. Methods: Using data on reproductive systems and distributions of 604 Primula taxa around the world and 221 along the elevational gradient of the Himalayas, we demonstrated the global pattern and the elevational pattern in the proportions of homostylous taxa. We employed general linear models to establish the relationship between the proportion of homostylous taxa and environmental variables and hierarchical partitioning to assess the relative contributions of these variables in both regions affected and unaffected by paleoglaciation, respectively. Results: We found a higher proportion of homostylous taxa in regions glaciated during the LGM than those unglaciated, with different latitudinal patterns and climate drivers. The proportion of homostylous taxa showed varying trends across different regions: increasing with latitude and temperature anomaly in glaciated regions while concentrating at lower latitudes with higher winter temperatures in unglaciated regions. Additionally, homostylous taxa were more prevalent at lower elevations in the Himalayas. Main Conclusions: Our study provides the first quantitative evidence for the hypothesis that selfers are more prevailing in regions affected by paleoglaciation facilitated by recolonization via comparing the geographic pattern and drivers in regions affected and unaffected by paleoglaciation. Our findings also reveal the concentrated distribution of homostylous taxa in Primula at low latitudes, which may be the result of population shrinkage caused by heat stress, facing a more severe survival crisis under the circumstances of global warming and increasing human activities. In this study, we successfully developed two novel vinylene‐linked covalent organic frameworks (COFs) using 2‐connected 3,6‐dimethylpyridazine through Knoevenagel condensation. These COFs featured finely tailored micro‐/nano‐scale pore sizes, high surface areas and stable non‐polar vinylene linkages. Finely resolved powder X‐ray diffraction patterns demonstrated highly crystalline structures with a hexagonal lattice in the AA layer stacking. The resulting one‐dimensional channels possess strong hydrogen‐bond accepting sites arising from the decorated cis‐azo/azine units with two pairs of fully exposed lone pair electrons, endowing the as‐prepared COFs with exceptional water absorption properties. The g‐DZPH‐COF exhibited successive steep water uptake steps starting from low relative pressures (P/PSTA=0.1), with the remarkable water uptake capacity of 0.26 g/g at P/PSTA=0.2 (25 °C), which is the optimal value recorded among the reported COFs. Dynamic vapour sorption measurements revealed the fast kinetics of these COFs, even in the cluster formation process. GaN HEMT devices are sensitive to the single event effect (SEE) caused by heavy ions, and their reliability affects the safe use of space equipment. In this work, a Ge ion (LET = 37 MeV·cm2/mg) and Bi ion (LET = 98 MeV·cm2/mg) were used to irradiate Cascode GaN power devices by heavy ion accelerator experimental device. The differences of SEE under three conditions: pre-applied electrical stress, different LET values, and gate voltages are studied, and the related damage mechanism is discussed. The experimental results show that the pre-application of electrical stress before radiation leads to an electron de-trapping effect, generating defects within the GaN device. These defects will assist in charge collection so that the drain leakage current of the device will be enhanced. The higher the LET value, the more electron–hole pairs are ionized. Therefore, the charge collected by the drain increases, and the burn-out voltage advances. In the off state, the more negative the gate voltage, the higher the drain voltage of the GaN HEMT device, and the more serious the back-channel effect. With the development of cloud computing, more and more resource constrained data owners tend to store their images in the cloud and rely on image retrieval services to get back images they want. However, this process raises huge privacy leakage risks. Privacy-preserving image retrieval (PPIR) can prevent privacy leakage during the retrieval process. Using convolutional neural networks for image feature extraction can significantly improve retrieval accuracy and has become a common trend in PPIR, but it also brings a new problem of network model parameter leakage, which is often ignored by most PPIR schemes. Besides, existing PPIR schemes often adopt centralized image retrieval service, which typically require frequent interactions between the cloud server and users during the retrieval process, resulting in excessive computational overhead for resource-limited users. Aiming to solve these problems, a distributed privacy-preserving image retrieval scheme is proposed in this paper. Three collaborative cloud servers utilize three neural network models split and outsourced by the data owner to extract features of the query image and perform subsequent retrieval tasks. A new secure Euclidean distance calculation protocol is designed for cloud servers to measure feature similarity, and secure sort pair protocol, secure sorting protocol, secure search protocol are utilized to achieve secure image retrieval. Additionally, a hierarchical index tree is employed to narrow down the search scope and improve search efficiency. This approach avoids the problem of network model parameter leakage caused by using neural networks to extract image features at the users' side, reduces the computational burden on users, and improves the accuracy and the efficiency of the retrieval process while ensuring retrieval security. The development of phosphorescent materials with ultrapure emission is of great significance for wide‐color‐gamut organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). Herein, a ligand steric interlocking strategy is introduced to achieve the narrowband emission of phosphorescent Ir(III) complexes. The steric interlocking effect contributed by the short distance between ligands leads to enhanced rigidity, and suppresses the high‐frequency vibrations of oICz‐Ir. In this context, oICz‐Ir exhibits an ultrapure green phosphorescence with a small full width at half maximum (FWHM) of 23 nm peaking at 521 nm in solution. Furthermore, the oICz‐Ir‐based OLED achieves a maximum external quantum efficiency (EQEmax) of 18.9%, an excellent color purity with Commission Internationale de L'Eclairage coordinate y (CIEy) of 0.69, making it the purest green bottom‐emitting phosphorescent OLEDs. Meanwhile, with oICz‐Ir as the sensitizer, a phosphorescence sensitized fluorescent OLED shows an excellent EQEmax of 31.1% with the CIEy of 0.7. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To investigate the potential utilization of MOF templates in hydrodesulfurization (HDS) of large sulfur-containing compounds, MOF-derived Ni2P was prepared and characterized by XRD, TG, SEM, TEM, XPS and Raman. The findings indicate that MOF-derived Ni2P catalyst exhibits significantly enhanced Hydrodesulfurization (HDS) activity compared to conventional unsupported Ni2P. A modified pyrolysis and phosphiding condition allowed the stacking of central Ni atoms to be aggregated loosely, and morphology of MOF-derived Ni2P can be controllably transmitted from polyhedral to petal-like. A lower pyrolysis temperature tends to reduce density of Ni aggregates and cluster size of Ni2P(111), thereby facilitating the phosphiding of Ni aggregates and enhancing the catalytic activity of MOF-derived Ni2P in HDS process. Increasing the duration time of pyrolysis at lower temperatures does not accelerate the aggregation of particles, but makes petals on surface of MOF-derived Ni become thinner and eventually disappear, until coral-like nanosphere aggregates with uniform size are formed. The gradually elimination of MOF framework renders nickel aggregates more susceptible to phosphiding. The collapse of pore structure of MOF template can impact HDS activity of MOF-derived Ni2P. Prolonging pyrolysis time causes the spacing between Ni2P clusters to diminish, thereby significantly decreasing reactivity of Ni2P-400-4-275 compared to Ni2P-400-2-275 in DBT–HDS. Seismic response from porous sediments can be used in reservoir characterization and fluid detection. Reflection coefficient at the isotropic/poroelastic interface is essential to reveal seismic response from the fluid‐saturated deposits. The exact normal incidence reflection coefficient is given by complex mathematic expression and not very clear relations with solid and fluid properties. Therefore, we derive the reflection coefficient approximate formula in series with respect to the square root of the imaginary unit multiplying by the ratio between angular frequency and the characteristic angular frequency. Compared to the exact reflection coefficient, the proposed approximate formula has a more concise mathematical form and clearer relationship with the moduli and densities. Meanwhile, there is no need to calculate the complex wavenumbers of poroelastic media from the dispersion equation as the exact reflection coefficient. When the frequency tends to zero, the approximate formula is consistent with reflection coefficient for the isotropic/isotropic interface. The proposed formula's applicability is verified through two models with an interface separating the mudstone and fully fluid‐saturated sandstone with pore fluids as water or carbon dioxide. Plot‐scale experiments indicate that functional diversity (FD) plays a pivotal role in sustaining ecosystem functions such as net primary productivity (NPP). However, the relationships between functional diversity and NPP across larger scale under varying climatic conditions are sparsely studied, despite its significance for understanding forest–atmosphere interactions and informing policy development. Hence, we examine the relationships of community‐weighted mean (CWM) and functional dispersion (FDis) of woody plant traits on NPP across China and if such relationships are modulated by climatic conditions at the national scale. Using comprehensive datasets of distribution, functional traits, and productivity for 9120 Chinese woody plant species, we evaluated the distribution pattern of community‐weighted mean and functional dispersion (including three orthogonal trait indicators: plant size, leaf morphology, and flower duration) and its relationships with NPP. Finally, we tested the effects of climatic conditions on community‐weighted mean/functional dispersion–NPP relationships. We first found overall functional diversity–NPP relationships, but also that the magnitude of these relationships was sensitive to climate, with plant size community‐weighted mean promoting NPP in warm regions and plant size functional dispersion promoting NPP in wet regions. Second, warm and wet conditions indirectly increased NPP by its positive effects on community‐weighted mean or functional dispersion, particularly through mean plant size and leaf morphology. Our study provides comprehensive evidence for the relationships between functional diversity and NPP under varying climates at a large scale. Importantly, our results indicate a broadening significance of multidimensional plant functional traits for woody vegetation NPP in response to rising temperatures and wetter climates. Restoration, reforestation actions and natural capital accounting need to carefully consider not only community‐weighted mean and functional dispersion but also their interactions with climate, to predict how functional diversity may promote ecosystem functioning under future climatic conditions. The pseudo-spin symmetry (PSS) provides an important angle to understand nuclear microscopic structure and the novel phenomena found in unstable nuclei. The relativistic Hartree–Fock (RHF) theory, that takes the important degrees of freedom associated with the π -meson and ρ -tensor (ρ -T) couplings into account, provides an appropriate description of the PSS restoration in realistic nuclei, particularly for the pseudo-spin (PS) doublets with high angular momenta ( l ˜ ). The investigations of the PSS within the RHF theory are recalled in this paper by focusing on the effects of the Fock terms. Aiming at common artificial shell closures appearing in previous relativistic mean-field calculations, the mechanism responsible for the PSS restoration of high- l ˜ orbits is stressed, revealing the manifestation of nuclear in-medium effects on the PSS, and thus, providing qualitative guidance on modeling the in-medium balance between nuclear attractions and repulsions. Moreover, the essential role played by the ρ -T coupling, that contributes mainly via the Fock terms, is introduced as combined with the relations between the PSS and various nuclear phenomena, including the shell structure and the evolution, novel halo and bubble-like phenomena, and the superheavy magicity. As the consequences of the nuclear force in complicated nuclear many-body systems, the PSS itself and the mechanism therein can not only deepen our understanding of nuclear microscopic structure and relevant phenomena, but also provide special insight into the nature of the nuclear force, which can further enrich our knowledge of nuclear physics. This paper concentrates on the elevator passenger detection task, a pivotal element for subsequent elevator passenger tracking and behavior recognition, crucial for ensuring passenger safety. To enhance the accuracy of detecting passenger positions inside elevators, we improved the YOLOv8 network and proposed the SC-YOLOv8 elevator passenger detection network with soft-pooling and attention mechanisms. The main improvements in this paper encompass the following aspects: Firstly, we transformed the convolution module (ConvModule) of the YOLOv8 backbone network by introducing spatial and channel reconstruction convolution (SCConv). This improvement aims to reduce spatial and channel redundancy in the feature extraction process of the backbone network, thereby improving the overall efficiency and performance of the detection network. Secondly, we propose a dual-branch SPP-Fast module by incorporating a soft-pooling branch into the YOLOv8 network's SPP-Fast module. This dual-branch SPP-Fast module can preserve essential information while reducing the impact of noise. Finally, we propose a soft-pooling and multi-scale convolution CBAM module to further enhance the network's performance. This module enhances the network's focus on key regions, allowing for more targeted feature extraction, thereby further improving the accuracy of object detection. Additionally, the attention module enhances the network's robustness in handling complex backgrounds. We conducted experiments on an elevator passenger dataset. The results show that the precision, recall, and mAP of our improved YOLOv8 network are 94.32%, 91.17%, and 92.95%, respectively, all surpassing those of the original YOLOv8 network. About 80% of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients are in advanced stages and ineligible for curative surgery. Palliative treatments just maintained limited survival, thus an effective downstaging therapy is badly needed. Here we report an initially unresectable patient who underwent radical hepatectomy after successful downstaging with selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT). A 34‐year‐old man was diagnosed with China Liver Cancer Staging (CNLC) IIIa HCC. Due to insufficient future liver remnant and vascular involvement, the patient was suggested to be unresectable. SIRT with yttrium‐90 resin microspheres was given. At three months post‐SIRT, a complete response was achieved. The tumor was downstaged to CNLC Ia stage. The patient underwent anatomical hepatectomy 5 months after SIRT. Histopathological examination of the resected specimen showed 4% viable tumor cells inside a necrotic mass. To our knowledge, this is the first case who underwent SIRT with yttrium‐90 resin microspheres in China mainland. The success of the downstaging in this case renders a possible cure to be achieved in an initially unresectable patient. In addition, the nearly complete tumor necrosis in the resected specimen indicates a good prognosis post‐surgery. Landslides recurrently cause severe damage and, in some cases, the full disruption of many highways in mountainous areas, which can last from a few days to even months. Thus, there is a high demand for monitoring tools and precipitation data to support highway alignment selections before construction. In this study, we proposed a new system highway alignment selection method based on coherent scatter InSAR (CSI) and ~1 km high-spatial-resolution precipitation (HSRP) analysis. Prior to the CSI, we calculated and analyzed the feasibility of Sentinel-1A ascending and descending data. To illustrate the performance of the CSI, CSI and SBAS–InSAR were both utilized to monitor 80 slow-moving landslides, which were identified by optical remote-sensing interpretation and field investigation, along the Barkam–Kangting Highway Corridor (BKHC) in southwestern China, relying on 56 Sentinel-1A descending images from September 2019 to September 2021. The results reveal that CSI has clearer deformation signals and more measurement points (MPs) than SBAS-InSAR. And the maximum cumulative displacements and rates of the landslides reach −75 mm and −64 mm/year within the monitoring period (CSI results), respectively. Furthermore, the rates of the landslides near the Jinchuan River are higher than those of the landslides far from the river. Subsequently, to optimize the highway alignment selection, we analyzed the spatiotemporal evolution characteristics of feature points on a typical landslide by combining the −1 km HSRP, which was calculated from the 30′ Climatic Research Unit (CRU) time-series datasets, with the climatology datasets of WorldClim using delta spatial downscaling. The analysis shows that the sliding rates of landslides augment from the back edge to the tongue because of fluvial erosion and that accelerated sliding is highly related to the intense precipitation between April and September each year (ASP). Consequently, three solution types were established in our method by setting thresholds for the deformation rates and ASPs of every landslide. Afterward, the risk-optimal alignment selection of the BKHC was finalized according to the solution types and consideration of the construction's possible impacts. Objective: This study aimed to provide clinical evidence for lineage replacement and genetic changes of High-Risk Human Papillomavirus (HR-HPV) during the period of vaccine coverage and characterize those changes in eastern China. Methods: This study consisted of two stages. A total of 90,583 patients visiting the Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital of Fudan University from March 2018 to March 2022 were included in the HPV typing analysis. Another 1076 patients who tested positive for HPV31, 33, 52, or 58 from November 2020 to August 2023 were further included for HPV sequencing. Vaccination records, especially vaccine types and the third dose administration time, medical history, and cervical cytology samples were collected. Viral DNA sequencing was then conducted, followed by phylogenetic analysis and sequence alignment. Results: The overall proportion of HPV31 and 58 infections increased by 1.23% and 0.51%, respectively, while infection by HPV33 and 52 decreased by 0.42% and 1.43%, respectively, within the four-year vaccination coverage period. The proportion of HPV31 C lineage infections showed a 22.17% increase in the vaccinated group, while that of the HPV58 A2 sublineage showed a 12.96% increase. T267A and T274N in the F-G loop of HPV31 L1 protein, L150F in the D-E loop, and T375N in the H-I loop of HPV58 L1 protein were identified as high-frequency escape-related mutations. Conclusions: Differences in epidemic lineage changes and dominant mutation accumulation may result in a proportional difference in trends of HPV infection. New epidemic lineages and high-frequency escape-related mutations should be noted during the vaccine coverage period, and regional epidemic variants should be considered during the development of next-generation vaccines. The Convention on Biological Diversity seeks to conserve at least 30% of global land and water areas by 2030, which is a challenge but also an opportunity to better preserve biodiversity, including flowering plants (angiosperms). Herein, we compiled a large database on distributions of over 300,000 angiosperm species and the key functional traits of 67,024 species. Using this database, we constructed biodiversity-environment models to predict global patterns of taxonomic, phylogenetic, and functional diversity in terrestrial angiosperms and provide a comprehensive mapping of the three diversity facets. We further evaluated the current protection status of the biodiversity centers of these diversity facets. Our results showed that geographical patterns of the three facets of plant diversity exhibited substantial spatial mismatches and nonoverlapping conservation priorities. Idiosyncratic centers of functional diversity, particularly of herbaceous species, were primarily distributed in temperate regions and under weaker protection compared with other biodiversity centers of taxonomic and phylogenetic facets. Our global assessment of multifaceted biodiversity patterns and centers highlights the insufficiency and unbalanced conservation among the three diversity facets and the two growth forms (woody vs. herbaceous), thus providing directions for guiding the future conservation of global plant diversity. Global climate change has led to the decline of species and functional diversity in ecosystems, changing community composition and ecosystem functions. However, we still know little about how species with different resource-use strategies (different types of resource usage and plant growth of plants as indicated by the spectrum of plant economic traits, including acquisitive resource-use strategy and conservative resource-use strategy) would change in response to climate change, and how the changes in the diversity of species with different resource-use strategies may influence community-level productivity. Here, using long-term (1982–2017) observatory data in a temperate grassland in Inner Mongolia, we investigated how climate change had affected the species richness (SR) and functional richness (FRic) for the whole community and for species with different resource-use strategies. Specifically, based on data for four traits representing leaf economics spectrum (leaf carbon concentration, leaf nitrogen concentration, leaf phosphorus concentration, and specific leaf area), we divided 81 plant species appearing in the grassland community into three plant functional types representing resource-acquisitive, medium, and resource-conservative species. We then analyzed the changes in community-level productivity in response to the decline of SR and FRic at the community level and for different resource-use strategies. We found that community-level SR and FRic decreased with drying climate, which was largely driven by the decline of diversity for resource-acquisitive species. However, community-level productivity remained stable because resource-conservative species dominating this grassland were barely affected by climate change. Our study revealed distinctive responses of species with different resource-use strategies to climate change and provided a new approach based on species functional traits for predicting the magnitude and direction of climate change effects on ecosystem functions. In order to efficiently extract β-glucan from highland barley (HBG) and study its structural characterization and antioxidant activity, ultrasonic–microwave-assisted extraction (UME) was optimized by the response surface method (RSM). Under the optimal extraction conditions of 25.05 mL/g liquid–solid ratio, 20 min ultrasonic time, and 480 W microwave intensity, the DPPH radical scavenging activity of HBG reached 25.67%. Two polysaccharide fractions were purified from HBG, namely HBG-1 and HBG-2. Structural characterization indicated that HBG-1 and HBG-2 had similar functional groups, glycosidic linkages, and linear and complex chain conformation. HBG-1 was mainly composed of glucose (98.97%), while HBG-2 primarily consisted of arabinose (38.23%), galactose (22.01%), and xylose (31.60%). The molecular weight of HBG-1 was much smaller than that of HBG-2. Both HBG-1 and HBG-2 exhibited concentration-dependent antioxidant activity, and HBG-1 was more active. This study provided insights into the efficient extraction of HBG and further investigated the structure and antioxidant activities of purified components HBG-1 and HBG-2. Plant–soil feedback (PSF) is an important mechanism determining plant community dynamics and structure. Understanding the geographic patterns and drivers of PSF is essential for understanding the mechanisms underlying geographic plant diversity patterns. We compiled a large dataset containing 5969 observations of PSF from 202 studies to demonstrate the global patterns and drivers of PSF for woody and non‐woody species. Overall, PSF was negative on average and was influenced by plant attributes and environmental settings. Woody species PSFs did not vary with latitude, but non‐woody PSFs were more negative at higher latitudes. PSF was consistently more positive with increasing aridity for both woody and non‐woody species, likely due to increased mutualistic microbes relative to soil‐borne pathogens. These findings were consistent between field and greenhouse experiments, suggesting that PSF variation can be driven by soil legacies from climates. Our findings call for caution to use PSF as an explanation of the latitudinal diversity gradient and highlight that aridity can influence plant community dynamics and structure across broad scales through mediating plant–soil microbe interactions. Deep learning is widely utilized to acquire predictive models for mobile crowdsensing systems (MCSs). These models significantly improve the availability and performance of MCSs in real-world scenarios. However, training these models requires substantial data resources, rendering them valuable to their owners. Numerous protection schemes have been proposed to mitigate potential economic loss arising from legal issues pertaining to model copyright. Although capable of providing copyright verification, these schemes either compromise the model utility or prove ineffective against adversarial attacks. Additionally, the privacy concern surrounding copyright verification is noteworthy, given the increasing privacy concerns among model owners. This paper introduces a privacy-preserving testing framework for copyright protection (PTFCP) comprising multiple protocols. Our protocols adhere to the two-cloud server model, where the owner and the suspect transmit their model output to non-colluding servers for evaluating model similarity through the public-key cryptosystem with distributed decryption (PCDD) and garbled circuits. Additionally, we have developed novel techniques to enable secure differentiation for absolute values. Our experiments in real-world datasets demonstrate that our protocols in the PTFCP successfully operate under numerous copyright violation scenarios, such as finetuning, pruning, and extraction. A response has been made to concerns raised about the data quality underlying a recent floristic map of the world. The concerns suggested that non-native distribution records and incomplete sampling may have biased the findings. However, after re-analyzing the data and updating the databases, it was found that these issues were not as serious as suggested. The proportion of non-native distributions in the database was lower than reported, and the regionalization map remained largely unchanged. Aim: Pollination is an essential stage of angiosperm reproduction, and the mode of pollination plays a major role in driving evolutionary and ecological responses of plants to environmental changes. However, the effects of climate, evolutionary history and floral traits (i.e. plant sexual systems) on pollination mode variation remain unclear. Here, we explored the biogeographic patterns in pollination mode frequency and tested the hypothesis that insect pollination prevails in warm humid regions with old floras due to high pollinator dependence, whereas wind pollination is more frequent in arid regions with younger floras and is more strongly associated with dioecy. Methods: Using data on pollination modes and geographic ranges of 29,719 angiosperm species in China, we mapped the biogeographic pattern of pollination mode frequency. Phylogenetic logistic regressions and generalized linear mixed models were employed to evaluate the relative importance of climate, evolutionary history (represented by phylogenetic conservatism and grid‐level mean genus age) and sexual systems on variations in pollination modes across species and space. Results: Evolutionary history was the strongest correlate of pollination mode variation across species and space. The proportion of insect‐pollinated species was higher in humid regions with old floras, but lower in arid regions with young floras. Evolutionary history and temperature dominated variations in pollination mode frequency in humid areas, while precipitation dominated in arid areas. Climate influenced geographic pattern in pollination mode frequency both directly and indirectly via its effects on species richness and plant sexual systems. Main Conclusions: Our results showed that geographic pattern in angiosperm pollination mode frequency is dominated by evolutionary history followed by climate, which extended previous findings of climate‐driven mechanisms. Summary: The geographic distribution of plant diversity matches the gradient of habitat heterogeneity from lowlands to mountain regions. However, little is known about how much this relationship is conserved across scales.Using the World Checklist of Vascular Plants and high‐resolution biodiversity maps developed by species distribution models, we investigated the associations between species richness and habitat heterogeneity at the scales of Eurasia and the Hengduan Mountains (HDM) in China.Habitat heterogeneity explains seed plant species richness across Eurasia, but the plant species richness of 41/97 HDM families is even higher than expected from fitted statistical relationships. A habitat heterogeneity index combining growing degree days, site water balance, and bedrock type performs better than heterogeneity based on single variables in explaining species richness. In the HDM, the association between heterogeneity and species richness is stronger at larger scales.Our findings suggest that high environmental heterogeneity provides suitable conditions for the diversification of lineages in the HDM. Nevertheless, habitat heterogeneity alone cannot fully explain the distribution of species richness in the HDM, especially in the western HDM, and complementary mechanisms, such as the complex geological history of the region, may have contributed to shaping this exceptional biodiversity hotspot. Aim: Quantifying niche shifts of non‐native species and their interactions with natives is vital in evaluating invasion risk yet remains difficult. Climate filtering and competition with native congeners are two important processes impacting niche changes and yielding contradictory predictions for the coexistence of non‐native and native species. Closely related species representing the Eastern Asia (EA)–Eastern North America (ENA) floristic disjunction provide a powerful yet unexplored system for assessing the relative roles of these two processes. Here, we tested three niche change scenarios (unfilling, expansion and stable) using EA species naturalized in ENA. We aim to answer: (1) which scenario is observed for naturalized species? and (2) how has niche overlap between EA and ENA congeners changed after naturalization? Location: ENA and EA. Time Period: Present. Major Taxa Studied: Angiosperms. Methods: Niches were estimated using both occurrences and predictions generated by ecological niche models. Niche changes of naturalized species and their niche overlap with natives were measured using Schoener's D. Contributions of niche expansion and unfilling on niche changes of naturalized niches were evaluated using hierarchical partitioning and linear regressions. We further measured pairwise phylogenetic distances among EA and ENA congeners and evaluated the association with niche overlap. Results: Unfilling‐dominated postintroduction niche changes of the naturalized species. EA species naturalized in ENA exhibited lower niche overlap with ENA native congeners compared with native range populations in EA. These results remain when considering time since introduction and potential physical dispersal limitations interpreted by projecting suitable niche space between EA and ENA. However, dispersal limitation may contribute to the degree of niche unfilling. A GaN high-electron-mobility transistor (HEMT) was simulated using the semiconductor simulation software Silvaco TCAD in this paper. By constructing a two-dimensional structure of GaN HEMT, combined with key models such as carrier mobility, the effects of a different state, different incidence position, different drain voltage, different LET values, and a different incidence angle on the single-event transient effect of GaN HEMT are simulated. LET stands for the linear energy transfer capacity of a particle, which refers to the amount of energy transferred by the particle to the irradiated substance on the unit path. The simulation results show that for GaN HEMTs, the single-event transient effect is more obvious when the device is in off-state than in on-state. The most sensitive location of GaN HEMTs to the single-event effect is in the region near the drain. The peak transient current increases with the increase in the drain bias and incident ion LET values. The drain charge collection time increases with the angle of incidence of heavy ion. Geographic range size of endemic species is the most important indicator of species' vulnerability to extinction and conservation prioritization, yet variation in range size among species and across space has been relatively understudied. We investigated the variations and geographic patterns of the range size of 9898 angiosperm species endemic to China and compared the effects of historical and contemporary climate and species' functional traits associated with dispersal ability (including growth form, fruit type, and sexual system) on range size variations. Our results revealed that narrow‐ranged endemic species are clustered in Southwest China where angiosperm species' richness peaks. Winter temperature had the strongest and negative effect on the range size of narrow‐ranged endemic species across space and species, while climate seasonality had the strongest and positive effect on the range size of wide‐ranged endemic species. Both historical and contemporary climate have also influenced species range size indirectly via their effects on species' functional traits associated with dispersal ability. Range size of all endemic species, narrow‐ranged and wide‐ranged, showed little phylogenetic signal, suggesting that phylogenetic conservatism plays a minor role in range size variations. Our results show that the range size of angiosperm species endemic to China is driven by both extrinsic spatiotemporal environmental factors and intrinsic species' traits that allow species to cope with environmental change. Conjugated porous polymers are emerging as sustainable and reliable electrode materials for lithium-ion batteries, owing to their versatile chemical modification, environmental-friendliness, and low cost, but still suffer from insufficient redox-active sites and sluggish ion/electron transport. Here, two new kinds of porous polymers (denoted as TPT-CMP and BFT-CMP), comprising full sp2-carbon skeletons connected through vinylidene linkages, are synthesized by acid-catalyzed Knoevenagel condensation of ethene-1,1,2,2-tetrayl-tetrakis-1,1′-biphenyl-4-carbaldehyde and 9,9′-bifluorenylidene-3,3′,6,6′-tetrayl-tetrabenzaldehyde with s-indacene-1,3,5,7-(2H,6H)-tetraone, respectively. Such porous polymers were readily composited with carbon nanotubes to form freestanding thin films upon a simple vacuum-assisted filtration. As the anode, the TPT-CMP-based film delivered a much higher capacity of 550 mA h g−1 at 100 mA g−1 than the BFT-CMP-based one (407 mA h g−1), although TPT-CMP exhibits a much lower surface area of 535.92 m2 g−1 than that (934.41 m2 g−1) of BFT-CMP. This phenomenon might be attributed to the idea that the conformationally rotatable tetraphenylethylene moieties in the case of TPT-CMP might improve rapid mass transport. Both composite electrodes can sustain 500 cycles without any significant decay. These results set new capacity records among porous polymer-based lithium-ion batteries and suggest a new method for achieving promising anode materials by rationally designing the main backbones of conjugated porous polymers. Various model updating approaches relying on solving nonconvex optimization problems have been developed; however, few of them can reach the global optimum. To obtain the global optimum, the real sum-of-squares optimization algorithm (SOSOA) was proposed to minimize the modal dynamic residuals of proportionally damped structural systems by recasting the nonconvex optimization into a convex optimization. However, this algorithm becomes inefficient for model updating of nonproportionally damped systems with complex-valued eigenvalues and eigvenvectors. This study proposes a model updating approach that exploits and adapts a complex SOSOA to minimize the modal dynamic residuals of nonproportionally damped systems. Numerical considerations unique to using the adapted complex SOSOA to update medium- or large-scale structural models are discussed. Finite-element models of three nonproportionally damped structures—including a base-isolated shear building, a frame building implemented with a tuned mass damper, and a frame building implemented with buckling-restrained braces—are updated to demonstrate that the adapted complex SOSOA finds the global optimum while being orders of magnitude more computationally efficient and far less demanding of computer memory than the real SOSOA. Multi‐resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR‐TADF) materials are considered a class of organic materials with exceptional electronic and optical properties, which make them promising for the applications in organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs). In this study, we improved, synthesized, and characterized a multiple‐resonance type emitter based on the assembly of MR‐building blocks (MR‐BBs). By optimizing the geometric arrangement of MR‐BBs, we were able to generate narrowband emission in the longer wavelength region and shorten the delayed excited‐state lifetime, resulting in improved emission efficiency compared to the parent molecule. Our proof‐of‐concept molecule, m‐DBCz, exhibited narrowband yellowish‐green TADF emission with a full width at half‐maximum of 32 nm and a small singlet‐triplet energy gap of 0.04 eV. The OLED developed using m‐DBCz as the emitter demonstrated electroluminescence at 548 nm and achieved a high external quantum efficiency (EQE) of 34.9 %. Further optimization of the device resulted in a high external quantum efficiency of 36.3 % and extremely low efficiency roll‐off, with EQE values of 30.1 % and 27.7 % obtained even at high luminance levels of 50 000 and 100 000 cd m−2. Aim: Significant changes in species elevational ranges in mountains have been repeatedly documented, yet the direction, magnitude and drivers of these shifts remain controversial. Presently, there is still lacking evidence about the general nature of species elevational range shifts in eastern Eurasia in response to anthropogenic climate change. By using historical specimen records and recent field observations for 735 seed plant species across 29 China's mountains, we assessed changes in species' elevational centroids and their drivers. Location: China. Time Period: 1950–2018. Major Taxa Studied: Seed plant species. Methods: The elevation records of all sampled occurrences in each mountain during the two time periods were estimated, and the null models were developed to test the sampling bias. Ecological niche models (ENMs) were used to evaluate the relative importance of climate factors in constraining each species distribution. Generalized linear models (GLMs) to test the relationships between the centroid elevational range shifts of species and different divers. Results: We found that 54% of the species shifting upward and 46% downhill. However, species' elevational shifts significantly differed among species and mountains. Herbaceous and lowland species moved upward faster than woody and high‐elevation species. Species in temperate mountains and in mountains with taller elevational gradients moved upward, while species in subtropical mountains and in mountains with shorter elevational gradients moved downward. Precipitation changes experienced by species, species' climatic adaptations, several species' functional traits and mountain size all contributed to explain the magnitude of species' centroid elevational range shifts. Main Conclusions: Our results highlight complex biodiversity redistribution of seed plants across Chinese mountains, not necessarily conforming to the trend of species upward shifts in elevation. Changes in precipitation regimes may blur the simplistic assumption of isotherm tracking. Aim: Climate has been regarded as an important explanation for large‐scale species richness patterns. However, the mechanisms underlying the significant variations in species richness–climate relationships across different clades remain to be tested. We explored how niche conservatism, diversification rates and time for speciation influenced species richness–climate relationships between clades. Location: The globe. Time Period: Present day. Methods: Based on a newly complied database of the global distributions of 288,735 angiosperm species, we used generalized linear models to assess the relationships between species richness of different angiosperm families and climatic factors. We also conducted phylogenetic comparative analysis to test whether niche conservatism, diversification rates and time for speciation affect the variations in species richness–climate relationships. Results: We found that temperature seasonality dominated the global angiosperm diversity patterns. Closely related families had more similar species richness–climate relationships than distantly related ones. The discrepancy between the current and ancestral niches of different clades had much stronger effects on variations in species richness–climate relationships than diversification rates and time for speciation. With the increase in the discrepancy between current and ancestral niches, the explanatory power (i.e., R2) of contemporary temperature and precipitation in explaining species richness patterns increased. In this paper, a P-type GaN buried layer is introduced into the buffer layer of AlGaN/GaN HEMTs, and the effect of the P-type GaN buried layer on the device's temperature characteristics is studied using Silvaco TCAD software. The results show that, compared to the conventional device structure, the introduction of a P-type GaN buried layer greatly weakens the peak of the channel electric field between the gate and drain of the device. This leads to a more uniform electric field distribution, a substantial reduction in the lattice temperature of the device, and a more uniform temperature distribution. Therefore, the phenomenon of negative resistance caused by self-heating effect is significantly mitigated, while the breakdown performance of the device is also notably enhanced. Lanthanide ions are extensively utilized in optoelectronic materials, owing to their narrow emission bandwidth, prolonged lifetime, and elevated fluorescence quantum yield. Inorganic non-metallic materials commonly serve as host matrices for lanthanide complexes, posing noteworthy challenges regarding loading quantity and fluorescence performance stability post-loading. In this investigation, an enhanced Stöber method was employed to synthesize mesoporous hollow silica, and diverse forms of SiO2@Eu(TTA)3phen (S@Eu) were successfully prepared. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) outcomes revealed the effective binding of silica with Eu(TTA)3phen through both physical adsorption and chemical bonding. This includes the formation of Si-O-C bonds between silica and the ligand, as well as Si-O-Eu bonds between silica and europium ions. Fluorescence tests demonstrated that the mesoporous SiO2@Eu(TTA)3phen(MS@Eu) composite exhibited the highest fluorescence intensity among the three structured silica composites, with a notable enhancement of 46.60% compared to the normal SiO2@Eu(TTA)3phen composite. The Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis indicated that the specific surface area plays a crucial role in influencing the fluorescence intensity of SiO2@Eu(TTA)3phen, whereby the prepared mesoporous hollow silica further elevated the fluorescence intensity by 61.49%. Moreover, SiO2@Eu(TTA)3phen demonstrated 11.11% greater cyclic stability, heightened thermal stability, and enhanced alkaline resistance relative to SiO2@Eu(TTA)3phen. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Floristic regions reflect the geographic organization of floras and provide essential tools for biological studies. Previous global floristic regions are generally based on floristic endemism, lacking a phylogenetic consideration that captures floristic evolution. Moreover, the contribution of tectonic dynamics and historical and current climate to the division of floristic regions remains unknown. Here, by integrating global distributions and a phylogeny of 12,664 angiosperm genera, we update global floristic regions and explore their temporal changes. Eight floristic realms and 16 nested sub-realms are identified. The previously-defined Holarctic, Neotropical and Australian realms are recognized, but Paleotropical, Antarctic and Cape realms are not. Most realms have formed since Paleogene. Geographic isolation induced by plate tectonics dominates the formation of floristic realms, while current/historical climate has little contribution. Our study demonstrates the necessity of integrating distributions and phylogenies in regionalizing floristic realms and the interplay of macroevolutionary and paleogeographic processes in shaping regional floras. This study updates the floristic realms of the world by integrating global distributions and mega-phylogenies of 12,664 angiosperm genera. Eight realms and 16 sub-realms are identified, most of which have formed since the Paleogene, and their formation is dominated by geographic isolation induced by plate tectonics rather than current or historical climate. Fast spin-flipping is the key to exploit the triplet excitons in thermally activated delayed fluorescence based organic light-emitting diodes toward high efficiency, low efficiency roll-off and long operating lifetime. In common donor-acceptor type thermally activated delayed fluorescence molecules, the distribution of dihedral angles in the film state would have significant influence on the photo-physical properties, which are usually neglected by researches. Herein, we find that the excited state lifetimes of thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters are subjected to conformation distributions in the host-guest system. Acridine-type flexible donors have a broad conformation distribution or bimodal distribution, in which some conformers feature large singlet-triplet energy gap, leading to long excited state lifetime. Utilization of rigid donors with steric hindrance can restrict the conformation distributions in the film to achieve degenerate singlet and triplet states, which is beneficial to efficient reverse intersystem crossing. Based on this principle, three prototype thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters with confined conformation distributions are developed, achieving high reverse intersystem crossing rate constants greater than 106 s−1, which enable highly efficient solution-processed organic light-emitting diodes with suppressed efficiency roll-off.The distribution of dihedral angles in film state has significant influence on excited state lifetimes of thermally activated delayed fluorescence emitters. Climate projection requires an accurate understanding for soil organic carbon (SOC) decomposition and its response to warming. An emergent view considers that environmental constraints rather than chemical structure alone control SOC turnover and its temperature sensitivity (i.e., Q10), but direct long‐term evidence is lacking. Here, using compound‐specific radiocarbon analysis of soil profiles along a 3300‐km grassland transect, we provide direct evidence for the rapid turnover of lignin‐derived phenols compared with slower‐cycling molecular components of SOC (i.e., long‐chain lipids and black carbon). Furthermore, in contrast to the slow‐cycling components whose turnover is strongly modulated by mineral association and exhibits low Q10, lignin turnover is mainly regulated by temperature and has a high Q10. Such contrasts resemble those between fast‐cycling (i.e., light) and mineral‐associated slow‐cycling fractions from globally distributed soils. Collectively, our results suggest that warming may greatly accelerate the decomposition of lignin, especially in soils with relatively weak mineral associations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Soil microbes assemble in highly complex and diverse microbial communities, and microbial diversity patterns and their drivers have been studied extensively. However, diversity correlations and co-occurrence patterns between bacterial, fungal, and archaeal domains and between microbial functional groups in arid regions remain poorly understood. Here we assessed the relationships between the diversity and abundance of bacteria, fungi, and archaea and explored how environmental factors influence these relationships. We sampled soil along a 1500-km-long aridity gradient in temperate grasslands of Inner Mongolia (China) and sequenced the 16S rRNA gene of bacteria and archaea and the ITS2 gene of fungi. The diversity correlations and co-occurrence patterns between bacterial, fungal, and archaeal domains and between different microbial functional groups were evaluated using α-diversity and co-occurrence networks based on microbial abundance. Our results indicate insignificant correlations among the diversity patterns of bacterial, fungal, and archaeal domains using α-diversity but mostly positive correlations among diversity patterns of microbial functional groups based on α-diversity and co-occurrence networks along the aridity gradient. These results suggest that studying microbial diversity patterns from the perspective of functional groups and co-occurrence networks can provide additional insights on patterns that cannot be accessed using only overall microbial α-diversity. Increase in aridity weakens the diversity correlations between bacteria and fungi and between bacterial and archaeal functional groups, but strengthens the positive diversity correlations between bacterial functional groups and between fungal functional groups and the negative diversity correlations between bacterial and fungal functional groups. These variations of the diversity correlations are associated with the different responses of microbes to environmental factors, especially aridity. Our findings demonstrate the complex responses of microbial community structure to environmental conditions (especially aridity) and suggest that understanding diversity correlations and co-occurrence patterns between soil microbial groups is essential for predicting changes in microbial communities under future climate change in arid regions. Satellite radar backscatter contains unique information on land surface moisture, vegetation features, and surface roughness and has thus been used in a range of Earth science disciplines. However, there is no single global radar data set that has a relatively long wavelength and a decades-long time span. We here provide the first long-term (since 1992), high-resolution (∼8.9 km instead of the commonly used ∼25 km resolution) monthly satellite radar backscatter data set over global land areas, called the long-term, high-resolution scatterometer (LHScat) data set, by fusing signals from the European Remote Sensing satellite (ERS; 1992–2001; C-band; 5.3 GHz), Quick Scatterometer (QSCAT, 1999–2009; Ku-band; 13.4 GHz), and the Advanced SCATterometer (ASCAT; since 2007; C-band; 5.255 GHz). The 6-year data gap between C-band ERS and ASCAT was filled by modelling a substitute C-band signal during 1999–2009 from Ku-band QSCAT signals and climatic information. To this end, we first rescaled the signals from different sensors, pixel by pixel. We then corrected the monthly signal differences between the C-band and the scaled Ku-band signals by modelling the signal differences from climatic variables (i.e. monthly precipitation, skin temperature, and snow depth) using decision tree regression. The quality of the merged radar signal was assessed by computing the Pearson r , root mean square error (RMSE), and relative RMSE (rRMSE) between the C-band and the corrected Ku-band signals in the overlapping years (1999–2001 and 2007–2009). We obtained high Pearson r values and low RMSE values at both the regional (r≥0.92 , RMSE ≤ 0.11 dB, and rRMSE ≤ 0.38) and pixel levels (median r across pixels ≥ 0.64, median RMSE ≤ 0.34 dB, and median rRMSE ≤ 0.88), suggesting high accuracy for the data-merging procedure. The merged radar signals were then validated against the European Space Agency (ESA) ERS-2 data, which provide observations for a subset of global pixels until 2011, even after the failure of on-board gyroscopes in 2001. We found highly concordant monthly dynamics between the merged radar signals and the ESA ERS-2 signals, with regional Pearson r values ranging from 0.79 to 0.98. These results showed that our merged radar data have a consistent C-band signal dynamic. The LHScat data set (10.6084/m9.figshare.20407857; Tao et al., 2023) is expected to advance our understanding of the long-term changes in, e.g., global vegetation and soil moisture with a high spatial resolution. Aim: Woody and herbaceous habits represent one of the most distinct contrasts among angiosperms, and the proportion of woody species in floras (i.e., "woodiness" hereafter) represents a fundamental structural element of plant diversity. Despite its core influence on ecosystem processes, spatio‐temporal patterns in woodiness remain poorly understood. Here, we aim to demonstrate the global spatio‐temporal patterns in angiosperm woodiness and their relationship with environmental factors. Location: Global. Time period: Cenozoic, 66 Ma to present. Major taxa studied: Angiosperms. Methods: Using newly compiled data on the growth forms and distributions of c. 300,000 angiosperm species and an angiosperm phylogeny, we mapped the current global geographical patterns in angiosperm woodiness, reconstructed ancestral states of growth forms through the angiosperm phylogeny and demonstrated the Cenozoic evolutionary dynamics of woodiness. We evaluated the relationships between woodiness and current climate and palaeoclimate. Results: We found that c. 42.7% of angiosperms are woody. Woodiness decreased spatially from the equator towards high latitudes, temporally since the early Cenozoic. Temperature was the best predictor of the spatio‐temporal decline in woodiness and was positively correlated with woodiness. Despite the temporal decline in woodiness, macroevolutionary herbaceous‐to‐woody transitions increased through time and contributed to the evolution of woody floras in temperate drylands, whereas the opposite transitions decreased through time and contributed to herbaceous floras in tropical and subtropical drylands. Main conclusions: Our study improves understanding of the spatio‐temporal dynamics of angiosperm woodiness. Our findings suggest that temperature is likely to be a determinant of spatio‐temporal variations in woodiness, highlighting the role of temperature in maintaining the growth form composition of ecosystems. In order to obtain compact epoxy-based organic coatings with superior corrosion resistance and self-healing performance, a novel Ti3C2Tx/LDH-epoxy hybrid coating was prepared on AZ31 magnesium alloy in this work. The layered double hydroxide (LDH) adopted here is MgAl-LDH intercalated by the cysteine acid (Cys), an environmentally friendly organic acid anions, as corrosion inhibitors, and the MXene (Ti3C2Tx)/MgAl-LDH (TML) heterostructure nanosheets were grown by a facile in situ assembled method. The morphology, composition, structure and the corrosion protection of the Ti3C2Tx/MgAl-LDH-epoxy (EP-TML) composite coatings were systematically investigated and compared with the other three epoxy-based coatings: bare waterborne epoxy resin (EP), Ti3C2Tx pigmented in EP (EP-T), MgAl-LDH in EP (EP-ML). It is found that the TML heterostructure has good dispersion and compatibility with the epoxy resin. The corrosion current density and the impedance value at low frequency (|Z|0.01 Hz) of the EP-TML composite coating are 1.4 × 10–9 A/cm2 and 1.66 × 107 Ω cm2, which is 4 orders of magnitude lower than that of the uncoated Mg substrate and 1–2 orders of magnitude higher than that of EP (8.7 × 105 Ω cm2), respectively, indicating its excellent corrosion resistance. And the self-healing efficiency of EP-TML composite coating is found to be higher as 56.17% after 6 days immersion in a corrosive environment. The significant improvement of the anti-corrosion and self-healing performance of the EP-TML composite coating are mainly ascribed to the synergistic effect of "barrier effect" of TML and the corrosion inhibition effect of the cysteine acid encapsulated in MgAl-LDH. This work provides some valuable insights to widen the functional application of Ti3C2Tx and the design of highly corrosion-resistant and self-healing organic coatings for Mg alloys. The genus Oxytropis (Fabaceae) was formed from the ancient species of Astragalus presumably approximately 5.6 Ma ago in Southern Siberia. Our study summarized data on the genetic diversity of 69 populations of 31 Oxytropis species in the center of origin of the genus based on the sequencing of plastid genome markers. Most of the populations (82.6%) are characterized by high gene diversity (0.600–1.000), which indicates a relatively stable state. Phylogenetic relationships between most Oxytropis species remain unresolved. Three genetic complexes and four phyletic lineages have been identified. Some species form weakly differentiated complexes, which is probably caused by their relatively recent divergence and the demography processes, as well as interspecific hybridization and polyploidy characteristic of Oxytropis species. Forests provide a huge carbon pool, a substantial portion of which is stored in above‐ground biomass (AGB). Deciduous broadleaf forests in China are an essential component of global deciduous broadleaf forests, yet the impacts of climate and forest attributes on their AGB are not well understood.Using a comprehensive forest inventory database from 772 plots distributed across temperate and subtropical deciduous broadleaf forests in China (23.51°–42.53°N and 104.24°–128.27°E), we applied variance partitioning analysis, model selection analysis and structural equation models to explore how climate and forest attributes (species diversity, community‐level functional traits and stand structures) affect AGB in different climatic forests (semi‐arid forests, semi‐humid forests and humid forests).Community‐level functional traits and stand structures together explained a great portion of the variance in AGB. The effect of community‐level functional traits was greater than that of stand structures in semi‐arid forests and semi‐humid forests, but smaller in humid forests. Further analyses showed that community‐level maximum tree height, stem density and tree size inequality were important explanatory variables. Although climate and species diversity had minor effects, the direct positive effect of mean annual precipitation (MAP) was still important, especially in semi‐arid forests.Synthesis. Community‐level functional traits but not species diversity were key drivers of AGB, indicating that tree species diversity loss may not impair AGB substantially in deciduous broadleaf forests in China. Moreover, stand structures also had strong effects on AGB in both semi‐arid forests and humid forests, highlighting the importance of structural complexity. In addition, MAP had a direct positive effect on AGB in semi‐arid forests and semi‐humid forests, and a future increase in drought might potentially reduce carbon storage in these forests. Reliable estimates of groundwater recharge are crucial for the groundwater resources evaluating and sustainable utilization plans formulating. To protect the precious karst groundwater resources, this paper critically reviewed the previous studies on karst groundwater recharge in northern China karst regions from the perspective of diffuse recharge and focused recharge, and took Niangziguan Spring catchment as a case study. It is concluded that for the 119 karst groundwater systems, 52% occur diffuse recharge through precipitation infiltration, 48% occur both diffuse recharge through precipitation infiltration and focused recharge through surface water leakage. The mean annual precipitation, diffuse recharge and infiltration coefficient (IC, as percentage of precipitation) are 560 mm, 136 mm and 23.1%, respectively. A high correlation was observed between annual precipitation and annual diffuse recharge with a nonlinear relationship. The IC can vary substantially even with the same annual precipitation between 9.3 and 38.0%, with an evidently increasing trend eastward. This reflects a significant difference in the degree of karstification for the northern karst regions. The most commonly applied for recharge assessment in northern China karst regions is equal volume spring flow method, the chloride mass balance method is highly recommended for groundwater recharge estimation of the regions based on the case study. In this paper, Silvaco TCAD software is used to simulate the buffer traps in AlGaN/GaN high electron mobility transistors (HEMTs), and its effects on the breakdown performance and key parameters of the devices are investigated by changing the position and concentration of the acceptor traps in the buffer layer. The results show that with the increase of trap concentration, the traps capture electrons and reduce the off-state leakage current, which can improve breakdown voltage of the devices. At the same time, as the trap concentration increases, the ionized traps make a high additional electric field near the drain edge, leading to the decrease of breakdown voltage. With the combined two effects above, the breakdown voltage almost ultimately saturates. When the source-to-gate (Access-S) region in the GaN buffer layer is doped alone, the minimum and most linear leakage current for the same trap concentrations are obtained, and the additional electric field has a relatively small effect on the electric field peak near the drain as the ionized traps are furthest from drain. All these factors make the breakdown voltage increase more controllably with the Access-S region doping, and it is a more potential way to improve the breakdown performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The tree of life (TOL) is severely threatened by climate and land-cover changes. Preserving the TOL is urgent, but has not been included in the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. Protected areas (PAs) are fundamental for biological conservation. However, we know little about the effectiveness of existing PAs in preserving the TOL of plants and how to prioritize PA expansion for better TOL preservation under future climate and land-cover changes. Here, using high-resolution distribution maps of 8732 woody species in China and phylogeny-based Zonation, we find that current PAs perform poorly in preserving the TOL both at present and in 2070s. The geographical coverage of TOL branches by current PAs is approx. 9%, and less than 3% of the identified priority areas for preserving the TOL are currently protected. Interestingly, the geographical coverage of TOL branches by PAs will be improved from 9% to 52–79% by the identified priority areas for PA expansion. Human pressures in the identified priority areas are high, leading to high cost for future PA expansion. We thus suggest that besides nature reserves and national parks, other effective area-based conservation measures should be considered. Our study argues for the inclusion of preserving the TOL in the post-2020 conservation framework, and provides references for decision-makers to preserve the Earth's evolutionary history. The effects of drought, salinity, and combined stress on ROS and ROS metabolic physiology and transcriptomics in sweet sorghum seedling leaves were evaluated. The results showed that drought stress had little effect on photosynthesis, while the SOD activity, CAT activity, and the expression of their related genes were elevated in leaves, but no excessive accumulation of O2-, H2O2, or -OH was observed. Under salinity stress, photosynthesis was inhibited, the O2-, H2O2 and -OH contents increased significantly, and the SOD, POD, CAT activities and the expression of their related genes in leaves were elevated. Under combined stress, photosynthesis was significantly inhibited, the highest accumulation of O2-, H2O2 and -OH contents occurred, and the SOD and POD activities and the expression of related genes in leaves were significantly increased, but the CAT was significantly decreased. These results collectively indicate that oxidative damage to sweet sorghum seedling leaves was higher with combined stress than with either drought or salinity stress alone. Under combined stress the SOD and POD activities were increased, but the CAT activity in the AsA-GSH cycle was severely reduced, demonstrating that antioxidant mechanisms in seedlings did not play a normal protective role, leaving the plants severely damaged by oxidative stress.
