Recent years have witnessed contrasting trends in summer total rainfall (STR) over the Tibetan Plateau (TP), with an increase in the northern and a decrease in the southern TP. This study identifies four significant centers of rainfall trends: eastern TP ("region A"), Qiangtang Plateau ("B"), Qaidam Basin ("C"), and the northern foothills of the Himalayas ("D"). Heavy rainfall dominates STR trends in regions A and D, accounting for 55.6% and 52.0%, respectively. In region B, moderate and light rainfall contribute almost equally, accounting for 37.3% and 44.8% of the STR trend, respectively. Region C is primarily influenced by light rainfall, explaining 71.2% of the STR trend. Notably, the contributions of different rainfall intensities to STR in each region vary annually, with region A experiencing more heavy rainfall, region B having moderate dominance but less light rainfall, and region C and D showing reduced and increased light rainfall contributions, respectively. Mechanistically, the strengthening of the upper-level westerly jet and the South Asian High, coupled with changes in moisture transport and convective available potential energy, collectively cause variations in rainfall intensity, characterizing the spatial heterogeneity in STR in the TP. Variations in surface air temperature on the eastern Tibetan Plateau (TP‐SAT) during boreal summer, related to Barents‐Kara spring sea ice and summer Arctic Oscillation (AO), are investigated using observations and ERA‐5 reanalysis data during 1979–2018. Results show that the primary mode of summer eastern TP‐SAT (SAT_EOF1) is characterized by the consistent warming pattern with larger values over the northeastern TP, which is linked with the anticyclonic circulation located in the northeastern flank of the TP. This anticyclone enhances westward water vapor transport, warm temperature advection, and causes descending over the eastern TP, Descending further results in deceased middle level cloud cover and increased solar radiation, accordingly, favoring the eastern TP warming. Further statistical analysis reveals a robust connection between Barents‐Kara spring sea ice, summer AO and SAT_EOF1. Moreover, anticyclonic anomaly located in the northeastern region of the TP acts as an important driver of this consistent warming pattern over the eastern TP, which is modulated by two individual Rossby wave trains from the northwestern Russia and northwestern Atlantic. The spring sea ice in Barents‐Kara could cause decreased precipitation and reduced soil moisture in northwestern Russia during following summer, which further induces the Eurasian‐like teleconnection and affects the anticyclonic anomaly situated in the northeastern flank of the TP, thereby favoring eastern TP warming. In addition, from northwestern Atlantic to northeastern region of the TP, the Rossby wave train is mainly affected by summer AO, with positive AO causing anticyclonic anomaly over northeast of the TP, thus contributing to the TP warming. Numerous studies have extensively documented a remarkable warming trend in the TP during boreal summer, particularly noticeable since the late 1990s. This study was performed to determine the effect of human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hucMSCs) treatment on pulmonary fibrosis and investigate the circFOXP1-mediated autophagic mechanism of hucMSCs treatment. Pulmonary fibrosis models were established by spraying bleomycin in mice and TGF-β1 treatment of MRC-5 cells. Results showed that hucMSCs were retained in lung and hucMSCs treatment alleviated pulmonary fibrosis. Morphological staining indicated that hucMSCs-treated mice had thinner alveolar walls, effectively improved alveolar structure, significantly reduced alveolar inflammation, and decreased collagen deposition than control mice. Fibrotic proteins, including vimentin, α-SMA, collagens I and III, and the differentiation-related protein S100 calcium-binding protein A4 was reduced considerably in the hucMSCs-treated group. The mechanistic study revealed that the inhibition of hucMSCs treatment on pulmonary fibrogenesis depended on downregulating circFOXP1, in which hucMSCs treatment promoted circFOXP1-mediated autophagy process via blocking the nuclear human antigen R (HuR) translocation and promoting the HuR degradation, leading to a marked decrease in autophagy negative regulators EZH2, STAT1, and FOXK1. In conclusion, hucMSCs treatment significantly improved pulmonary fibrosis by downregulating the circFOXP1-HuR-EZH2/STAT1/FOXK1 autophagic axis. hucMSCs can act as an effective treatment for pulmonary fibrosis. This paper is concerned with the resilient consensus control problem of the linear multi-agent system under the false data injection attacks, where each agent may receive the injected false data by attackers from its neighbours through communication links. Due to the existence of the false data, the desired consensus of multi-agent can not be reached by the general distributed consensus algorithms. By constructing an extended state observer to estimate the state and the injected false data towards each agent, a distributed resilient consensus control algorithm is designed to offset the negative effect of the attacks. Firstly, a sufficient condition is derived for the undirected multi-agent system under a bounded and decaying false data injection. Secondly, a sufficient and necessary condition is provided for the directed multi-agent system under the false data injection with decaying rate. In this paper, a honeycomb Si3N4 ceramic was fabricated by 3D printing with a well‐preserved structure. The effects of Si3N4 content on the rheological properties of Si3N4/sol–silica ink and the printing resolution of products were investigated. The microstructure, phase composition, liner shrinkage rate, and fracture behavior of printed samples before and after sintering were systematically characterized in detail. The results showed that the modified inks had the optimized rheological properties, and the stress–shear rate curves corresponding to each slurry could be well described by Bingham and Herschel–Bulkley fluid models. The corresponding slump rates of the printed samples with different Si3N4 to sol–silica mass ratios were all lower than 4%, and the linear shrinkage rate of all of the samples after sintering was below 20%. The fracture behavior under compressive loading of the honeycomb Si3N4 ceramics tended to be non‐catastrophic fractures both before and after sintering. The compressive strengths of all of the printed samples decreased with the increase of the Si3N4 content, and the highest compressive strength of the honeycomb ceramics could reach 131.2 MPa after sintering at 1600°C, which was about 366.9% higher than that of the samples in green state prior to the sintering. The magnitude and spatial pattern of anomalous net biome exchange (NBE) induced by the 2015/16 El Niño over Amazonian rainforests remain uncertain. We here investigated them using multi‐model posterior NBE products in the Orbiting Carbon Observatory‐2 (OCO‐2) version 10 modeling intercomparison project. Results suggest that relative to the annual NBE average in 2017/18, larger anomalous carbon release occurred over the eastern and northern Amazonian rainforests in 2015/16, with a total flux of approximately 0.4 PgC yr−1 after assimilating satellite‐observed column CO2 concentrations (XCO2) over land. We further find that this anomalous spatial pattern was predominantly determined by soil dryness, while the total positive NBE anomaly was dominated by higher temperature with its contribution of approximately 68～70%. We believe that atmospheric inversions assimilating more satellite‐observed XCO2 in future can provide us more comprehensive understanding how Amazonian rainforests cope with the abiotic stresses induced by El Niño events. The spring sensible heating (SSH) over the Tibetan Plateau (TP), which can significantly affect the precipitation in China, has experienced three different stages of change, showing significant increasing (1961–1979, Stage I), decreasing (1980–2002, Stage II), and increasing (2003–2014, Stage III) trends. In this study, the impact of these different trends in TP SSH on spring precipitation (SPR) in China and their possible mechanisms are investigated, based on observations and the reanalysis product. In Stage I, the SPR represents a contrasting north-south pattern associated with the increasing TP SSH, showing increasing trends over southern China and decreasing trends over central and northern China. Further, the spatial distribution of SPR trends shows a contrasting east-west pattern in Stage II. That is, persistent weakening TP SSH plays a more crucial role in increasing and decreasing SPR over southwestern and southern China, respectively. However, compared with the significant trend in SPR in Stage III, the regulation of TP SSH on SPR weakens significantly. Dynamically, the increasing TP SSH in Stage I can strengthen the subtropical westerly jet in the upper layer, simultaneously configured with an anomalous cyclone in northeastern China, which deepens the East Asian trough. Thus, anomalous convergence in the upper layer occurs over central and northern China, favoring the downdraft. It then causes more cold and dry air to move southward in the lower troposphere, which then encounters the warm and wet southwest airflows, boosting the updraft over southern China. In Stage II, regression analysis shows that if the TP SSH increases, an anomalous cyclone in the middle and upper troposphere occurs over the western TP, causing the downdraft and less precipitation over southwestern China, while a cyclone in the lower troposphere occurs over the western North Pacific and extends to southern China, promoting the ascending motions and more precipitation in southern China. Aim: This study used CpG 684 as adjuvant of inactivated COVID-19 vaccine to detect a humoral and cellular immune response in mice. Materials & methods: We used 10 and 20 µg CpG 684 as adjuvants of an inactivated COVID-19 vaccine to immunize mice. IgG, IgG1, IgG2a, IgG2b and IgM binding antibodies were detected in serum by ELISA. The IFN-γ cytokine was detected by ELISPOT. Results: CpG 684 improved spike-specific IgG and IgM subtype binding antibodies and increased the neutralizing antibody titer against prototype, Delta and Beta strains. CpG 684 also improved cellular immune response. Conclusion: CpG 684 is an effective adjuvant for inactivated COVID-19 vaccine. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Edema toxin (ET), one of the main toxic factors of Bacillus anthracis (B. anthracis), is a kind of potent adenylate cyclase (AC). B. anthracis has adapted to resist macrophage microbicidal mechanisms in part by secreting ET. To date, there is limited information on the pathogenic mechanisms used by ET to manipulate macrophage function, especially at the transcriptome level. We used RNA sequencing to study transcriptional changes in RAW264.7 cells treated with ET. We aimed to identify molecular events associated with the establishment of infection and followed changes in cellular proteins. Our results indicate that ET inhibited TNF-α expression in the RAW264.7 mouse macrophage cell line by activating the cAMP/PKA pathway. ET challenge of macrophages induced a differential expression of genes that participate in multiple macrophage effector functions such as cytokine production, cell adhesion, and the inflammatory response. Furthermore, ET influenced the expression of components of the ERK1/2, as well as the NF-αB signaling pathways. We also showed that ET treatments inhibit the phosphorylation of the ERK1/2 protein. ET also attenuated NF-αB subunit p65 phosphorylation and transcriptional activity of NF-αB via the cAMP/PKA pathway in macrophages. Since the observed modulatory effects were characteristic only of the bacterial exotoxin ET, we propose this may be a mechanism used by B. anthracis to manipulate macrophages and establish systemic infection. The characteristics of diurnal variation of the surface sensible heat flux (SH) over the Tibetan Plateau (TP) are comprehensively investigated by using the long-term dataset of integrated land–atmosphere interaction observations (2006–2016) on the TP. Results show that the diurnal variation of SH shows obvious seasonal variabilities in terms of amplitude, duration, and peak time. At the Muztagh Ata Westerly Observation and Research Station (MAWORS), the Ngari Desert Observation and Research Station (NADORS), and the Qomolangma Atmospheric and Environmental Observation and Research Station (QOMS), the SH diurnal amplitude is consistently the largest in spring, followed by summer and autumn, and the smallest in winter, with a peak at 15:00. However, for the Southeast Tibet Observation and Research Station (SETORS), the amplitude in winter is rather violent with the peak at 12:00. We find that positive SH at most stations has the longest duration from May to August. Moreover, the peak time fluctuates from month to month, even showing a shift at the QOMS before and after 2015, and the double-peak phenomenon of SH mainly occurs in spring and autumn. Additionally, magnitudes of calculated SH with the conventional heat transfer coefficient (CDH) of 0.004 are about 64% to 100% larger than those of directly observed SH at the QOMS and the Nam Co Monitoring and Research Station (NAMORS). We here additionally recommend a new CDH values of about 2.24 × 10−3 in spring and 2.78 × 10−3 in summer, respectively, to more accurately calculate the TP SH. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The 2019 extreme positive Indian Ocean dipole drove climate extremes over Indian Ocean rim countries with unclear carbon‐cycle responses. We investigated its impact on net biome productivity (NBP) and its constituent fluxes, using the Global Carbon Assimilation System (GCASv2) product, process‐based model simulations from TRENDYv9, and satellite‐based gross primary productivity (GPP). By distinguishing two separate regions, the India‐Africa and Asia‐Pacific, GCASv2 indicated enhanced terrestrial carbon uptake of 0.23 ± 0.20 PgC and release of 0.38 ± 0.15 PgC, respectively, during September–December (SOND) 2019. These NBP anomalies had comparable magnitudes to those following the 2015 extreme El Niño which, however, caused the consistent carbon release in both regions. The TRENDYv9 model ensemble confirmed these NBP responses, albeit with smaller magnitudes. These regional NBP anomalies were related to soil moisture variations with a dominant role of GPP. Understanding the impact of IOD provides new insights into mechanisms driving interannual variations in regional carbon cycling. For the purpose of minimizing the damage to apples during the operation of an apple-picking robot, improving the stability of an apple-harvesting mechanical hand and reducing the use and operation cost of the robot, a novel biomimetic apple mechanical hand based on negative pressure air suction is purposely designed based on the physical characteristics of apples by imitating octopus predation. The mechanical hand has four suction cups evenly distributed in the hand, which produce concave deformation under negative vacuum pressure to fit the apple surface and adsorb the apple; the fruit stalk is separated by wrist rotation and dragging in a compound way to complete the picking operation. This paper firstly determines the key parameters of the mechanical hand based on the characteristics of silicone material and the three growth postures of apples, tries to make a physical prototype of the mechanical hand and conducts relevant performance tests on the picking platform built in the laboratory to explore the best combination of parameters and further optimize the manipulator. The results show that the success rate of the biomimetic nondestructive apple picker with the best combination of parameters is 100%, 76% and 68% for three different apple-growth postures and the operation is smooth, reliable, safe and non-invasive. Objectives: An investigation of the effects of different types of the inferior mesenteric artery (IMA) on laparoscopic left colic artery (LCA) radical resection of rectal cancer was conducted. Methods: Clinical data were collected from 92 patients who underwent laparoscopic radical resection of rectal cancer with preservation of the LCA at Nantong University's Second Affiliated Hospital. All patients underwent full-abdominal dual-energy CT enhancement examination before surgery and 3D post-processing reconstruction of the IMA. Two radiologists with >3 years of experience in abdominal radiology jointly conducted the examination. A total of three types of IMA were identified among the patients: IMA type I (the LCA arising independently from the IMA), type II (LCA and sigmoid colon artery [SA] branching from a common trunk from IMA), and type III (LCA, SA, and superior rectal artery [SRA] branching from the IMA at the same point). The baseline data, pathological results, and intra-operative and post-operative indicators of the groups were analyzed. Results: The proportions of type I, type II, and type III IMA were 58.70% (54/92), 18.48% (17/92), and 22.82% (21/92), respectively. IMA typing was consistent with the preoperative CT evaluation results. The intra-operative blood loss of type III IMA patients [median (interquartile spacing), M (P25, P75): 52.00 (39.50, 68.50) ml] was higher than that of type I and II IMA patients [35.00 (24.00, 42.00) and 32.00 (25.50, 39.50) ml, respectively] (P<0.05). The incidence of anastomotic fistula in type III IMA patients (4 cases, 19.05%) was higher than that in non-type III IMA patients (1 case, 1.41%) (X2=6.679, P=0.010). The incidence of postoperative complications among the three types of IMA was not significantly different (P>0.05). Conclusions: Among rectal cancer patients undergoing laparoscopic LCA preservation, type III IMA patients had more intraoperative bleeding and a higher incidence of postoperative anastomotic fistula. However, this did not increase the risk of overall postoperative complications. Highlights: 1. In order to extract polyester (PET) and microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) from waste polyester-cotton blended fabrics (WPBFs), a deep eutectic solvent (DES) synthesized from choline chloride (ChCl) and p-toluenesulfonic acid (TsOH) was developed as the treatment solvent. The orthogonal experiment method was designed to explore the optimal conditions for the separation process (75 vol.% DES, 110 °C, 10 min). The PET component was easily separated after the degradation of the cotton component from WPBFs. Recycled and untreated products were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA), and tensile tests. The results showed that the yields of recycled PET (R-PET) and MCC were 99.20, and 69.46%, respectively. Furthermore, glucose was also obtained with a yield of 38.91%. In particular, there was no significant deterioration in the properties of R-PET. MCC was obtained with crystallinity of 86.46%, which can be applied as the raw material of MCC in various industries. Moreover, the lifetime of the recyclable DES (ChCl/TsOH) showed that its treatment efficiency can still meet the requirement after the fifth recycling. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Tibetan Plateau (TP) vortex (TPV), one of the crucial weather systems triggering rainfall, plays a key role in modulating precipitation over TP and downstream regions. The role of atmospheric heat source in TPV development is explored by a case study in June 2016, using high-resolution ERA5 reanalysis, black-body temperature (TBB) obtained from the Fengyun-2E (FY-2E) satellite, and precipitation amount from the Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM). The evolutions of TPV can be split into three stages, i.e., generation, development, and pre-moving-off stage. The intensity of TPV increases with fluctuations, with weaker and shallower TPV in the generation stage, strongest in the development stage and deepest in the pre-moving-off stage. Importantly, the genesis of TPV is related to the surface warming center driven by surface sensible heating while its development is primarily dependent on the latent heat of condensation. In this work, a metal–glass joint between Ti and K9 glass was obtained by vacuum diffusion bonding after Ti was pre-oxidized at different temperatures to explore the effect of the pre-oxidation procedure on the properties of diffusion bonding joints. For the oxide layer, X-ray diffraction revealed that the oxide film consisted of TiO2 and some low-valence Ti–O compounds such as Ti6O, Ti3O, TiO, etc. The x/y ratio of TixOy decreased as oxidation temperature increased. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy showed that the morphology of the oxide layer gradually changed from dense to loose and porous, and the oxidized particle size gradually increased and distributed in layers from inside to outside, with the increase in temperature. From the results of diffusion bonding at 700 °C for 2 h, good Ti-K9 joints without cracks and pores can be obtained when the pre-oxidation temperature attained 900 °C. A transition layer appeared at the Ti-K9 interface with the diffusion of elements Ti, Si, and O, etc. Shear strength tests showed that the structure of the oxide layer at different conditions can directly affect the strength of the joint between Ti and glass. The joint to Ti pre-oxidized at 900 °C exhibited the highest shear strength, producing an average failure strength of 20.6 ± 1.2 MPa. An appropriate amount of oxide layer can improve the quality of the Ti-K9 joint. The feasibility of diffusion bonding added to process versatility for the use of Ti-K9 joint on practical application. Background: This study was aimed to explore the clinical application of dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) monoenergetic plus (mono+) imaging to evaluate anatomical variations in the inferior mesenteric artery (IMA). Methods: The clinical and imaging data of 212 patients who had undergone total abdominal DECT were retrospectively analyzed. The post-processing mono+ technique was used to obtain 40-keV single-level images in the arterial phase. Three-dimensional reconstruction was performed to evaluate the relationship between the IMA root position and the spinal level, IMA length, and IMA branch type, as well as the position of the left colic artery (LCA) and inferior mesenteric vein (IMV) at the IMA root level. Results: The IMA root was located at the L3 level in 78.3% of cases and at the L2/L3 level in 3.3%. The highest vertebral level of IMA origin was L2 (4.2%), and the lowest was L4 (7.1%). The distance from the IMA root to the level of the sacral promontory was 99.58 ± 13.07 mm, which increased with the elevation of the IMA root at the spinal level. Of the patients, 53.8% demonstrated Type I IMA, 23.1% Type II, 20.7% Type III, and 2.4% Type IV. The length of the IMA varied from 13.6 to 66.0 mm. 77.3% of the IMAs belonged to Type A, the adjacent type, and 22.7% to Type B, the distant type. Conclusion: DECT mono+ can preoperatively evaluate the anatomical characteristics of the IMA and the positional relationship between the LCA and IMV at the IMA root level, which would help clinicians plan individualized surgery for patients. Interferon use has long been associated with diabetes. The PubMed database was searched for articles related to diabetes and interferon from March 30, 2020. Patients were divided into type 1 diabetes group and type 2 diabetes group. We reviewed the relevant literature to compare interferon-associated T1D and interferon-associated T2D differences. Interferon treatment shortened the incubation period of T2D and changed the original T2D to T1D. The onset of interferon-associated T1D required longer periods of IFN treatment than interferon-associated T2D, and the interferon-associated T1D group had higher GADA positive rates, lower BMI, lower fasting blood glucose, and greater insulin dependence (p<0.05). More patients in the T1D group were positive for HLA-DRB1*04, DRB1*03, DRB1*09, DRB1*14, HLA-DQB1*04, HLA-DQB1*02, HLA-DQB1*03, and HLA-DQB1*05. Background: Physical examination is a core component of consultation. Little is known about the status quo of physical examinations performed by general practitioners in community health service institutions in China. The aim of this study was to investigate general practitioners' performance of physical examinations in consultations. Methods: An observational study was conducted in 5 community health service institutions in Beijing between November 2019 and January 2020. Eleven general practitioners were observed for one workday. Information of consecutive consultations was recorded including patient characteristics, reasons for encounter, physical examinations performed by general practitioners, length of consultation time and time spent on specific activities in consultations. Results: A total of 682 consultations of 11 general practitioners were recorded. Physical examinations were performed in 126 consultations (15.8%). Physical examination was more likely to be performed in patients visiting with symptoms (P < 0.001). Majority of the 126 physical examinations were distributed in "Head, face, and neck examination" (n = 54, 42.9%) and "Cardiovascular examination" (n = 55, 43.7%). No physical examination was performed on skin, male genitalia, female breasts and genitalia, and neurological systems. Total 2823 min of activities were observed and recorded. General practitioners only spent 3.1% of the recorded time on physical examination, which was less than the time spent on taking history (18.2%), test (4.9%), diagnosis (22.7%), therapy (38.4%), and health education (8.6%). The average time spent on physical examinations was 0.8±0.4 min per consultation. Conclusion: Physical examination was insufficiently performed by general practitioners in community health service institutions in Beijing. The preparation of value-added products is an effective way to reuse waste cotton fabrics (WCFs). Seven kinds of choline chloride (ChCl)-based deep eutectic solvents (DESs) were rapidly formed and characterized. Performances of these ChCl-based DESs were evaluated in terms of degradation of WCFs to 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) without any additional catalyst. The degradation was characterized by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) method. The results showed that the DESs formed by ChCl and p-toluene sulfonic acid (p-TSA) had the best effect in converting WCFs. Moreover, the stability of 5-HMF in the as-obtained DESs was also investigated. The highest 5-HMF yield was 10.20 % at 100 °C, with a reaction time of 90 min, and the molar ratio of hydrogen bond acceptor (HBA) to hydrogen bond donor (HBD) was 1:1.3 in ChCl/p-TSA DESs system without a catalyst. The investigated DESs system offers a good alternative compared to the available WCFs degradation methods, considering its cost-efficiency, environmental, and operability aspects. Therefore, the green and environmentally friendly synthesis of 5-HMF from cellulose materials (WCFs) could be an effective method to realize the high-value utilization of waste textiles, having an important theoretical significance and practical value. Precipitation, a key determinant of soil moisture variations, plays an important role in regulating terrestrial carbon fluxes on multiple time scales. It is a critical meteorological forcing to drive terrestrial biosphere model (TBM), however, with a large uncertainty itself. We here investigated to what extent precipitation alone can cause uncertainties of model‐simulated carbon flux from terrestrial ecosystems to atmosphere (FTA), based on eight precipitation products and a TBM, VEGAS. We find that the pattern of uncertainties in simulated FTA obviously differs from the pattern of discrepancies in precipitation, owing to divergent water sensitivities of vegetation over different regions. Globally, the uncertainty in FTA can be up to approximately 40.73% of the uncertainty in TRENDYv6 multi‐model simulated FTA which is caused by model structural and parameter uncertainty. A good linear relationship emerges between global area‐averaged land climatological annual precipitation and simulated total FTA with the slope of −0.0040 PgC yr−1 per mm yr−1 (p = 0.03; negative for carbon sink), where 70% is explained by the sensitivity over extra‐tropical Northern Hemisphere (NH). For seasonal cycle, compared to nearly constant inter‐precipitation spreads over tropics plus extra‐tropical southern hemisphere (Trop + SH), uncertainties in corresponding simulated FTA show obvious seasonal differences with the relatively larger uncertainties in March‐April‐May (MAM) and August‐September‐October (ASO). For interannual variability, uncertainties in simulated total FTA are, albeit smaller, nonnegligible, which are 40.61% (global), 38.17% (Trop + SH), and 29.63% (NH) of the TRENDYv6 inter‐model uncertainty, respectively. Therefore, generating better global precipitation product is important for reducing the uncertainty in simulating terrestrial carbon sinks. Background: The "5 + 3" residency training is the main stream general practitioner training program in China. However, a competency model is absent for evaluating the clinical competence attained by general practitioners after training. This study was conducted to develop a consensus set of competencies for general practitioners after standardized residency training in China. Methods: A modified Delphi process was deployed to develop the competency model, including two stages: (1) generation of an initial set of competencies derived from literature review, behavioral observation of GP–patient consultations, and critical incidents interview of GPs; (2) a 2-round, web-based Delphi survey of experts in general practice, selected using purposive sampling, to prioritize and gain consensus on the essential competencies of GPs. Results: From literature review, behavioral observation, and critical incidents interview, 46 competencies in 7 domains were identified. After two rounds of Delphi survey of 28 participants (the mean age was 47.9 [9.3] years and 64.3% were women) representing a range of health professionals (GPs, managers, and researchers), a consensus was reached on 50 competencies categorized into 7 domains. Conclusion: A consensus-based competency model for general practitioners in China has been identified which may be used to evaluate the general practitioners' clinical competence after standardized training. We investigated the effect of increased spring (April–May) dust aerosol over the Arabian Peninsula (AP) on the subseasonal-to-seasonal (S2S) variability of the Asian summer monsoon (ASM) using MERRA-2 re-analysis data (1980–2018). Result shows that abundant AP spring dust leads to more dust covering the AP and Pakistan northwestern India (PNWI) during May–June, causing a cooler land surface and a warmer lower and middle atmosphere with enhanced local atmospheric stability. However, the warmer atmosphere increases the meridional temperature gradient, boosting moisture transport from the Arabian Sea to PNWI, causing increased convective potential energy in PNWI region. As season advances, the accumulated convection potential energy eventually breaks through the local stability, via the elevated heat pump (EHP) effect, increasing precipitation over PNWI. In July and August, cloud radiation-circulation feedback further enhances the warming of the upper troposphere, strengthening precipitation in PNWI. Dynamical adjustments of large-scale circulations induced by the feedback strongly modulate ASM precipitation. Over southern and central China, precipitation is reduced, in conjunction with a contraction of South Asian High, and the development of an anomalous east-to-west oriented upper-level wavetrain in July. In August, the upper level wavetrain undergoes strong wave-mean flow interaction, culminating in the development of an anticyclonic center with drought conditions over northeast China, Korea and Japan. Over the Indian subcontinent, increased precipitation in PNWI plays an important role in initiating the EHP feedback leading to increased precipitation over the Indian subcontinent, and in modulating the jetstream-wave interaction in downstream East Asian regions in July–August. Background: In an era of an increasingly ageing society, part of healthcare for older adults can be provided in patients' homes, and the need for home health care services (HHCSs) is increasing. This study sought to determine whether a gap exists between the views of community health professionals and the caregivers of disabled older adults towards HHCSs in Beijing, China.Methods: A cross-sectional study with two comparative questionnaire surveys was conducted in Beijing, China. One survey was administered to the caregivers of disabled older adults, and the other was administered to health professionals in community health service institutions (CHSIs). T-tests and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were used to explore potential differences between the views of caregivers and community health professionals towards HHCSs.Results: We received 370 valid questionnaires from caregivers and 224 questionnaires from health professionals. Of the 370 caregivers, 314 (84.9%) were willing to apply for HHCSs for the older adults, but only 20.5% (N = 76) received HHCSs. Over 80% of the caregivers accepted out-of-pocket costs less than 100 yuan per visit. Caregivers' demands on home nursing services were significantly higher than those of health guidance services (Z = - 7.725, P < 0.001). Most of the 224 health professionals chose "health professionals' personal safety cannot be guaranteed" as a problem limiting the provision of HHCSs (N = 151, 40.8%). The health professionals' attitudes towards home nursing services were significantly less positive than those towards health guidance services (Z = - 10.081, P < 0.001). For home nursing services, health professionals' attitude scores were lower than the caregivers' demand scores (Z = - 4.960, P < 0.001), while for health guidance services, health professionals' attitude scores were higher than the caregivers' demand scores (Z = - 8.373, P < 0.001).Conclusions: Gaps exist between the views of caregivers and health professionals on HHCSs. Compared to health professionals with a higher willingness to provide health guidance services, caregivers need home nursing services. Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), a major climate variability in the tropics which drives the abiotic stress associated with heavy rainfalls and severe droughts, is not much understood in terms of its role in the carbon cycle, while El Niño‐Southern Oscillation (ENSO)‐related terrestrial carbon cycle variation has been intensively studied. Here, we investigate IOD's impact on land photosynthesis over the Indian ocean rim countries during austral spring using satellite‐based gross primary productivity (GPP) and Earth System Model simulations produced in the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 (CMIP6). IOD independently affects GPP with significant positive partial correlation coefficients (pcor) over most of Africa and India, and negative pcor over southern China, Indo‐China peninsula, maritime continent, and Australia, mostly driven by precipitation variations; this obviously differs from the widespread significant negative pcor pattern induced by ENSO. The recent extremely positive IOD in 2019 caused the canonical IOD‐affected GPP patterns, however, with its extreme impacts. Furthermore, though large inter‐model spreads exist, the CMIP6 multimodel median can basically capture the main characteristics of IOD‐affected precipitation and GPP patterns. Importantly, IOD is predicted to occur more frequently in future warming scenarios. Model future projections suggest that it will exert larger impacts on GPP variations over central and eastern Africa, Sumatra, western and southeastern Australia with stronger pcor and enhanced explained variance, but less impacts over southern Africa, east India, Indo‐China peninsula, and northeastern Australia. Therefore, besides ENSO, understanding the IOD impacts can provide us new insights into regional and global carbon cycle interannual variability. Multi-robots have shown good application prospects in agricultural production. Studying the synergistic technologies of agricultural multi-robots can not only improve the efficiency of the overall robot system and meet the needs of precision farming but also solve the problems of decreasing effective labor supply and increasing labor costs in agriculture. Therefore, starting from the point of view of an agricultural multiple robot system architectures, this paper reviews the representative research results of five synergistic technologies of agricultural multi-robots in recent years, namely, environment perception, task allocation, path planning, formation control, and communication, and summarizes the technological progress and development characteristics of these five technologies. Finally, because of these development characteristics, it is shown that the trends and research focus for agricultural multi-robots are to optimize the existing technologies and apply them to a variety of agricultural multi-robots, such as building a hybrid architecture of multi-robot systems, SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping), cooperation learning of robots, hybrid path planning and formation reconstruction. While synergistic technologies of agricultural multi-robots are extremely challenging in production, in combination with previous research results for real agricultural multi-robots and social development demand, we conclude that it is realistic to expect automated multi-robot systems in the future. Background: Domestic migration poses a challenge for China as migrants have little access to preventive healthcare services and are vulnerable to certain risks and diseases. This research sought to unveil and explore the determinant factors associated with health education utilization as a key aspect in basic public health services for migrants in Beijing, China. Methods: A sample of 863 inter-provincial migrants, 18 years old and above, was selected by three-stage stratified cluster sampling method in urban-rural fringe areas of Beijing during 2016 to 2017. Face-to-face structured interviews were conducted in the questionnaire survey. The effects of the explanatory variables on health education utilization from predisposing, enabling, health behaviors and need variables were used to demonstrate by Anderson health service utilization model. Results: The study revealed that 61.6% migrants desired to receive health education, while only 53.8% of them received in the past year. There were differences in the utilization and needs of health education among the migrants in different ages and genders. Many migrants desired to gain access to various types of health education information from the internet. Chi-square independence test lists such major determinant factors in migrants whole health education as age, "Hukou" registration system, marital status, education level, long-term residence plan in Beijing, one or more children in Beijing, employment status, housing source, average daily working time, exercises, health knowledge, smoking, self-rated health. The binary logistic regression indicates that the migrants with younger age, high education level, one or more children in Beijing, exercises and good self-rated health were more likely to receive whole health education. The results also show that average daily working time of enabling variables and exercise of health behavior variables were the strong and consistent determinants of three types of health education utilization, including communicable, non-communicable and occupational diseases. Conclusion: Gaps exist between the needs and utilization in health education and more attention should be given to the migrants with heavy workload and low education level. Feasible policies and measures, such as multiple health information channels, should be vigorously implemented to ensure equitable and easy access to health education for migrants. Background: The service capacity of primary care has improved in China. General practice also takes growing responsibility in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus, but there are concerns about the paucity of evidence of the quality of care delivered. And there is an absence of systematic quality indicators of type 2 diabetes mellitus in general practice in China. This study aimed to develop a set of type 2 diabetes mellitus quality indicators to facilitate quality measurement in general practice in China. Methods: Preliminary quality indicators were generated and refined by literature review and an expert consultation meeting. Two rounds of email-based Delphi survey and a consensus meeting were carried out to identify quality indicators. Delphi questionnaires with 43 indicators were sent to 30 participants in the first round. There were 16 general practitioners and 10 community health service center leaders from primary care, 3 endocrinologists and a primary care researcher in the first round. And 27 out of the 30 participants participated in the second round. The consensus meeting was held among 9 participants to refine the indicators and a last round of rating was carried out in the meeting. The indicators were rated in terms of importance and feasibility. The agreement criteria were defined as median ≥ 7.0 and ≥ 85.0% of ratings in the 7–9 tertile for importance; median ≥ 7.0 and ≥ 65.0, 70.0, 75.0% of ratings in the 7–9 tertile for feasibility respectively in the three rounds of rating. Results: After 2 rounds of Delphi survey and the consensus meeting, total 38 indicators achieved consensus for inclusion in the final set of indicators. The final set of indicators were grouped into 7 domains: access (5 indicators), monitoring (12 indicators), health counseling (7 indicators), records (2 indicators), health status (7 indicators), patient satisfaction (2 indicators) and self-management (3 indicators). Conclusions: A set of 38 potential quality indicators of type 2 diabetes mellitus in general practice were identified by an iterative Delphi process in Beijing, China. Background: The human myxovirus resistance 2 (Mx2/MxB) protein was originally found to regulate cytoplasmic-nuclear transport but was recently reported to restrict HIV-1 replication by binding to HIV-1 capsid (CA), preventing uncoating, the nuclear import of pre-integration complex (PIC) and viral DNA integration. This work explores the mechanisms of MxB-mediated HIV-1 inhibition. Results: We demonstrated that MxB represses NUP358-mediated PIC nuclear import and HIV-1 replication. Moreover, MxB's effects on PIC nuclear import and HIV-1 replication depend critically on cofactor cleavage and polyadenylation specificity factor subunit 6 (CPSF6). MxB binds nucleoporin NUP358, blocks NUP358-CA interaction, thereby impeding the nuclear import of HIV-1 PIC with CPSF6 binding to PIC. More intriguingly, CPSF6's role in nuclear import depends on MxB, being a facilitator of HIV-1 nuclear import on its own, but becoming an inhibitor when MxB is present. Conclusions: Our work establishes that MxB impedes the NUP358-mediated HIV-1 nuclear import and viral replication cooperatively with CPSF6. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: General practitioners (GPs) play a significant role in dementia care. However, the knowledge and attitudes of them towards dementia care are poorly characterized. The present study aimed to investigate GPs' knowledge, attitudes and skills of dementia care in primary health settings in Beijing. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 27 community health service centers (CHSCs) in Beijing. The GPs' knowledge, attitudes and skills were assessed utilizing the Alzheimer's Disease Knowledge Scale (ADKS), Dementia Care Attitude Scale (DCAS) and self-designed questionnaire, respectively. Results: A total of 341 participants returned the questionnaire. The overall mean score of GPs' dementia knowledge measured by the ADKS was 21.42 (SD = 2.73) out of 30 (71.4%), GPs' attitudes to dementia care was 36.25 (SD = 5.12) out of 50 (72.5%), and GPs' self-confidence on dementia care skills was 53.93 (SD = 9.57) out of 75 (71.9%). GPs' overall knowledge towards dementia care was limited and the attitudes were generally positive. They had low level recognition of their roles towards dementia care. The majority of GPs believed that dementia care was within a specialist's domain not that of general practice. Conclusion: GPs demonstrate low levels of dementia knowledge and skills, but express generally positive attitudes towards dementia in this study. It is much needed to translate detailed dementia care handbook, and adequate dementia knowledge training for GPs into practice to improve care outcomes for people with dementia in China. Knowledge of trophic ecology of fish species is fundamental to understand the organization mechanism of fish assemblages and crucial for developing effective management and conservation strategies. This study examined the diet partitioning and trophic guild structure of fish assemblages in Chishui River, the last undammed tributary of the upper Yangtze River, China. Specimens were collected in three sections along the upstream–downstream gradient in 2012. Digestive tract contents of 54 fish species, represented by 692 individuals, were analysed and quantified. Analysis showed that fish assemblages in the Chishui River utilized aquatic insects, algae, detritus, molluscs, and fishes as the main food resources, whereas terrestrial insects were consumed only occasionally. The trophic guild structure of fish assemblages changed gradually with the longitudinal gradient. Specially, the number of trophic guilds increased with downstream distance. In addition, the relative number of omnivorous species increased longitudinally, whereas the relative number of insectivorous species declined downstream. This study demonstrated how fish assemblages utilize the food resources under near‐natural conditions. These results provide valuable information for fish conservation and ecological restoration. We investigated the intraseasonal relationship between the atmospheric heat source over Tibetan Plateau (TP) and summer rainfall in eastern China. A quasi-biweekly oscillation (QBWO) is the common dominant periodicity over both the TP and eastern China. Crucially, the TP heat source QBWO leads rainfall QBWO over its downstream region by 2–8 days. The QBWO over the TP shows a significant eastward propagation. Phase composite further identified the specific propagation pathway: TP QBWO first propagates eastward to central China, southward to southern China, and then northeastward to the lower reaches of the Yangtze River with a zigzag propagating pathway. Mechanistically, the eastward propagation of the upper level divergence caused by the movement of the 200 hPa jet core and south Asian high contributes to the eastward propagation of the rainfall QBWO. Simultaneously, the eastward (westward) shift in the western north Pacific subtropical high causes deepening (flattening) of the monsoon trough and the occurrence of an anomalous cyclone (anticyclone) over the western north Pacific. An anomalous anticyclonic (cyclonic) circulation around the TP appears with the wet-to-dry (dry-to-wet) phase transition of the TP QBWO. Together, they play a crucial part in the southward (northeastward) movement of the QBWO. Further dynamic analysis indicates that the horizontal moisture advection acts on the whole eastward-propagating process of the QBWO, whereas the horizontal vorticity advection is only significant when QBWO is over the TP. Summary: A coexpression network is a powerful tool for revealing genes' relationship with many biological processes. Mass transcriptomic and genomic data from different plant species provide the foundation for understanding the evolution of nodulation across the Viridiplantae at a systematic level.We used weighted coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) to mine a nodule‐related module (NRM) in Glycine max.Comparative genomic analysis of 78 green plant species revealed that NRM genes are recruited from different evolutionary nodes along with gene duplication events. A set of core coexpressed genes within legumes may play vital roles in regulating nodule environments essential for nitrogen fixation, including oxygen concentrations, sulfur transport, and iron homeostasis (such as GmCHY). The regulation of these genes occurred mainly at the transcription level, although some of them, such as sulfate transporters, may also undergo positive selection at protein level.We revealed that ancient orthologs and duplication events before the origin of legumes were preadapted for symbiosis. Conserved coregulated genes found within legumes paved the way for nodule formation and nitrogen fixation. The inhibition performance of three pyrido[1,2-a]benzimidazoles, namely, benzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine (BIP), 2-methylbenzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine (MBIP), and 2-(trifluoromethyl)benzo[4,5]imidazo[1,2-a]pyridine (TBIP), for steel corrosion in hydrochloric acid solution were researched through a weight loss test, electrochemical techniques, surface morphology (SEM, XPS) studies, and theoretical methods. The experimental results revealed that TBIP, BIP, and MBIP had excellent inhibition performance, and their maximum inhibition efficiencies at 0.25 mmol L−1 were 95.48%, 97.65%, and 98.96%, respectively. The properties of these inhibitors are considered to be mixed-type, and their adsorption mode belongs to the Langmuir isothermal type. The formation and properties of an adsorbed film on a steel surface were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Quantum chemical calculations provided insightful quantitative information to conclude the correlation between the molecular structures and inhibition performance. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations were carried out to explore the configurationally adsorption behavior of these pyrido[1,2-a]benzimidazoles on Fe(110) surface, and the binding energy of these three inhibitors followed the order MBIP ＞ BIP ＞ TBIP, which is consistent with the experimental evaluation results. The isothermal wetting and spreading behaviors of Sn-Ti/ZrO2 systems were investigated by the sessile drop method, and the interfacial microstructures were characterized by XRD and TEM. The wettability improved significantly with the increase in Ti content or with the increase in temperature as a result of the interfacial phenomena. For example, for tests at 1000 °C, we found that: (1) XTi = 0 to XTi = 2.0%, the final contact angle decreased from 144° to 42° along with the increase in the coverage of ZrO2 by a Ti2O3 interfacial layer; (2) XTi = 2.0% to XTi = 4.0%, the contact angle decreased to 22° because of the replacement of Ti2O3 by a more metallic layer; (3) XTi = 4.0% to XTi = 8.0%, no further decrease in the angle was observed as the interfacial layer remains Ti11.31Sn3O10. For XTi = 4.0%, the temperature increase from 900 to 1000 °C led to a decrease in contact angle from 47° to 22°, respectively, due to the interfacial layer shifting from Ti2O3 to Ti11.31Sn3O10. For all the systems, the Ti enhanced the loss of oxygen from zirconia leading to the formation of black ZrO2-x. Spreading kinetics of Sn-Ti/ZrO2 systems was controlled by the reaction-limited dynamics. The diffusion of released oxygen changed the spreading rate in the rapid-spreading stage. MicroRNAs (miRs) serve important roles in the development of various types of human cancer, including nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). In the present study, the expression levels of miR-663b in NPC were investigated and its role and underlying mechanisms were examined. Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction was performed to assess miR-663b expression levels in NPC tissues and C666-1 cells. TargetScan was applied to predict the putative targets of miR-663b and the dual luciferase reporter assay was used to confirm the predictions. To investigate the role of miR-663b in NPC, the NPC C666-1 cell line was transfected with miR-663b mimics, miR-663b inhibitors or negative control. The Cell Counting kit-8 assay was performed for cell proliferation detection and western blot analysis was applied to determine the expression levels of epithelial mesenchymal transition (EMT)-associated proteins. Results indicated that when compared with the adjacent normal tissues and the normal nasopharyngeal epithelial cells, miR-663b expression levels were significantly upregulated in the NPC tissues and the NPC cells (P<0.01). Notably, SMAD7 is a target gene of miR-663b and may be inhibited by miR-663b. Results indicated that NPC cell proliferation was significantly promoted by miR-663b mimics and significantly inhibited by miR-663b inhibitors (P<0.05 and P<0.01). In addition, the results indicated that, when compared with the negative control group the expression levels of E-cadherin were significantly decreased, whereas the expression levels of N-cadherin, Vimentin and matrix metalloproteinase-9 were significantly increased in the cells of the miR-663b mimics group (P<0.05 and P<0.01). However, cells in the miR-663b inhibitors group exhibited the opposite effects. In conclusion, the results of the present study indicated that miR-663b functions as a tumor promoter in NPC via promoting NPC cell proliferation and EMT by directly targeting SMAD7. Abstract: The intraseasonal variation of the Tibetan Plateau summer monsoon (TPSM) during 1979–2011 is investigated. The TPSM shows a dominant quasi‐biweekly oscillation (QBWO) in most summer seasons, and its active/break phases are closely related to more/less precipitation over the Tibetan Plateau. We suggest that the TPSM QBWO is associated with a southeastward propagating nonstationary wave train in the middle and upper troposphere. It shows equivalent barotropic vertical structures over the midlatitudes and a baroclinic structure over the eastern Tibetan Plateau. Wave activity flux analysis indicates that it originates from northern Europe, which is an active center of the summertime Arctic Oscillation (AO). The AO also shows significant QBWO signals and leads TPSM QBWO by about 13 days. Phase composite and wave activity flux analyses of AO QBWO confirmed that the wave train influences TPSM QBWO, suggesting that AO plays an important role in the TPSM on a 10‐ to 20‐day timescale. El Niño has two different flavors, eastern Pacific (EP) and central Pacific (CP) El Niños, with different global teleconnections. However, their different impacts on the interannual carbon cycle variability remain unclear. Here we compared the behaviors of interannual atmospheric CO2 variability and analyzed their terrestrial mechanisms duringthese two types of El Niños, based on the Mauna Loa (MLO) CO2 growth rate (CGR) and the Dynamic Global Vegetation Model's (DGVM) historical simulations. The composite analysis showed that evolution of the MLO CGR anomaly during EP and CP El Niños had three clear differences: (1) negative or neutral precursors in the boreal spring during anEl Niño developing year (denoted as "yr0"), (2) strong or weak amplitudes, and (3) durations of the peak from December (yr0) to April during an El Niño decaying year (denoted as "yr1") compared to October (yr0) to January (yr1) for a CP El Niño, respectively. The global land-atmosphere carbon flux (FTA) simulated by multi-models was able to capture the essentials of these characteristics. We further found that the gross primary productivity (GPP) over the tropics and the extratropical Southern Hemisphere (TropCSH) generally dominated the global FTA variations during both El Niño types. Regional analysis showed that during EP El Niño events significant anomalous carbon uptake caused by increased precipitation and colder temperatures, corresponding to the negative precursor, occurred between 30°S and 20°N from January (yr0) to June (yr0). The strongest anomalous carbon releases, largely due to the reduced GPP induced by low precipitation and warm temperatures, occurred between the equator and 20°N from February (yr1) to August (yr1). In contrast, during CP El Niño events, clear carbon releases existed between 10°N and 20°S from September (yr0) to September (yr1), resulting from the widespread dry and warm climate conditions. Different spatial patterns of land temperatures and precipitation in different seasons associated with EP and CP El Niños accounted for the evolutionary characteristics of GPP, terrestrial ecosystem respiration (TER), and the resultant FTA. Understanding these different behaviors of interannual atmospheric CO2 variability, along with their terrestrial mechanisms during EP and CP El Niños, is important because the CP El Niño occurrence rate might increase under global warming. Summary: WRKY transcription factors are known to participate in the defence responses of higher plants. However, little is known about the roles of such proteins, especially regarding their functions in the resistance of oilseed rape (Brassica napus) to Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, a necrotrophic fungal pathogen that causes stem rot. In this study, we identified BnWRKY33 as a S. sclerotiorum‐responsive gene that positively regulates resistance to this pathogen by enhancing the expression of genes involved in camalexin synthesis and genes regulated by salicylic acid (SA) and jasmonic acid (JA). We also identified a S. sclerotiorum‐responsive region in the promoter of BnWRKY33, which we revealed to be a relatively conserved W‐box region in the promoters of homologous genes in different species. Using this S. sclerotiorum‐responsive region as bait in a yeast one‐hybrid assay, we identified another WRKY transcription factor, BnWRKY15, and observed that both BnWRKY15 and BnWRKY33 could bind to this region. In addition, BnWRKY15 overexpression simultaneously increased the susceptibility of B. napus to S. sclerotiorum and down‐regulated BnWRKY33 after different durations of infection. Furthermore, BnWRKY15, which contains a transcriptional repression domain, exhibited reduced transactivation ability and could reduce the transactivation ability of BnWRKY33 in Arabidopsis protoplast assays. Therefore, we suggest that the increased susceptibility of BnWRKY15‐overexpressing plants results from reduced BnWRKY33 expression, which is due to the inhibition of BnWRKY33 transcriptional activation by BnWRKY15. Large interannual atmospheric CO2 variability is dominated by the response of the terrestrial biosphere to El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). However, the behavior of terrestrial ecosystems differs during different El Niños in terms of patterns and biological processes. Here, we comprehensively compare two extreme El Niños (2015/16 and 1997/98) in the context of a multi-event "composite" El Niño. We find large differences in the terrestrial carbon cycle responses, even though the two events were of similar magnitude. More specifically, we find that the global-scale land-atmosphere carbon flux (FTA) anomaly during the 1997/98 El Niño was 1.64 PgCyr-1, but half that quantity during the 2015/16 El Niño (at 0.73 PgCyr-1). Moreover, FTA showed no obvious lagged response during the 2015/16 El Niño, in contrast to that during 1997/98. Separating the global flux by geographical regions, we find that the fluxes in the tropics and extratropical Northern Hemisphere were 1.70 and -0.05 PgCyr-1 during 1997/98, respectively. During 2015/16, they were 1.12 and -0.52 PgCyr-1, respectively. Analysis of the mechanism shows that, in the tropics, the widespread drier and warmer conditions caused a decrease in gross primary productivity (GPP; -0.73 PgCyr-1) and an increase in terrestrial ecosystem respiration (TER; 0.62 PgCyr-1) during the 1997/98 El Niño. In contrast, anomalously wet conditions occurred in the Sahel and East Africa during 2015/16, which caused an increase in GPP, compensating for its reduction in other tropical regions. As a result, the total 2015/16 tropical GPP and TER anomalies were -0.03 and 0.95 PgCyr-1. GPP dominance during 1997/98 and TER dominance during 2015/16 accounted for the phase difference in their FTA. In the extratropical Northern Hemisphere, the large difference occurred because temperatures over Eurasia were warmer during the 2015/16, as compared with the cooling seen during the 1997/98 and the composite El Niño. These warmer conditions enhanced GPP and TER over Eurasia during the 2015/16 El Niño, while these fluxes were suppressed during 1997/98. The total extratropical Northern Hemisphere GPP and TER anomalies were 0.63 and 0.55 PgCyr-1 during 1997/98, and 1.90 and 1.45 PgCyr-1 during 2015/16, respectively. A facile oxidative annulation of cyclohexanones and 2-aminophenyl ketones that uses molecular oxygen as the sole oxidant is described. The reaction provides a direct approach to acridines, a structural motif for a large number of fluorescent sensors, functional materials, ligands, and pharmaceuticals. In the presence of a palladium catalyst, high regioselectivity is observed when using non-symmetric 3-substituted cyclohexanones. With the use of oxygen as the terminal redox moderator, the electron gap of the global redox condensation process is filled and the reaction efficiency is significantly promoted. A facile spinning-based strategy was developed to fabricate chitosan (CS) surface nanofiber-based affinity membranes for protein adsorption. The core-shell nanofiber mat of nylon 6-CS was prepared via coaxial solution blowing process. The nanofibers have a diameter range of 60-300 nm. The core-shell structure was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy, and CS was observed as a thin layer that uniformly adhered to the core. The dye ligand of cibacron blue F3GA (CB F3GA) was further covalently immobilized on the nanofibers with a content of 425 µmol/g. The pristine and CB F3GA-attached mats were studied in protein adsorption. High bovine serum albumin adsorption capacities of 91.9 and 219.6 mg/g were obtained for pristine and CB F3GA-attached mats, respectively. Given its properties of high flux rate and low pressure drop, CB F3GA-attached nylon 6-CS nanofiber mat meets the requirements of highly effective affinity membrane chromatography. The propagation and underlying mechanisms of the boreal summer quasi-biweekly oscillation (QBWO) over the entire Asian monsoon region are investigated, based on ECMWF Interim reanalysis (ERA-Interim) data, GPCP precipitation data, and an atmospheric general circulation model (AGCM). Statistical analyses indicate that the QBWO over the Asian monsoon region derives its main origin from the equatorial western Pacific and moves northwestward to the Bay of Bengal and northern India, and then northward to the Tibetan Plateau (TP) area, with a baroclinic vertical structure. Northward propagation of the QBWO is promoted by three main mechanisms: barotropic vorticity, boundary moisture advection, and surface sensible heating (SSH). It is dominated by the barotropic vorticity effect when the QBWO signals are situated to the south of 20°N. During the propagation taking place farther north toward the TP, the boundary moisture advection and SSH are the leading mechanisms. We use an AGCM to verify the importance of SSH on the northward propagation of the QBWO. Numerical simulations confirm the diagnostic conclusion that the equatorial western Pacific is the source of the QBWO. Importantly, the model can accurately simulate the propagation pathway of the QBWO signals over the Asian monsoon region. Simultaneously, sensitivity experiments demonstrate that the SSH over northern India and the southern slope of the TP greatly contributes to the northward propagation of the QBWO as far as the TP area. ABSTRACT Multimode fiber Bragg grating (MFBG) is inscribed in graded-index multimode fiber using infrared femtosecond laser and phase mask. Multiple dips are observed in the transmission spectrum of MFBG. There is not only self-coupling effect between the forward and backward principal modes, but also the mutual coupling effect between the neighbor modes. The induced refractive index modulation of 6.4 × 10 −4 is achieved for a peak power density of 4.1 × 1013 W/cm2 without any fiber sensitization. Thermal experiment results show that the MFBG belongs to type I grating. The transmission spectrum of MFBG shifts linearly with the strain and pressure at sensitivities of 1.27 ± 0.002 pm/με and −3.3 ± 0.06 pm/MPa, respectively. Study Question: Do N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase (GnT-V) and N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase III (GnT-III) play an important role in early spontaneous miscarriage (ESM) in humans. Summary Answer: The dynamic balance between GnT-V and GnT-III expression in chorionic villi differed between early normal pregnancy and ESM and was associated with altered β1,6-N-acetylglucosamine (β1,6-GlcNAc) and bisecting N-acetylglucosamine (bis-GlcNAc) branched N-glycans on integrin β1. What Is Known Already: GnT-V contributes to metastasis, while GnT-III is recognized as a metastasis suppressor. It has been reported that GnT-V contributes to placentation in the early phase of pregnancy, possibly regulating trophoblast invasion. However, the expressions of GnT-V and GnT-III in ESM have not been reported. Study Design, Size, Duration: Villous samples from 6 to 9 weeks of gestation were collected in the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University from May 2013 to September 2014 from 60 normal pregnant women undergoing elective termination of pregnancy and from 40 patients with a clinical diagnosis of ESM. Participants, Materials, Setting, Methods: Quantitative PCR and western blots were used to examine the GnT-V and GnT-III mRNA (Mgat5 and Mgat3) and protein expression, respectively, of chorionic villi in both the ESM group and the normal group from week 6 to week 9. We used immunofluorescence and immunohistochemistry to detect the location of GnT-V and GnT-III. Lectin fluorescence and histochemistry were used to test the location of β1,6-GlcNAc and bis-GlcNAc branching in the normal and ESM groups. To assess the functional capacity of GnT-V and GnT-III in the chorionic villi between the two groups, we used an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kit to measure the activity of these enzymes. Using co-precipitated integrin α5β1 followed by phytohaemagglutinin (PHA)-L and PHA-E blotting, we investigated whether GnT-V and GnT-III could modify the N-glycosylation profile in terms of the β1,6-GlcNAc and bis-GlcNAc structures in integrin α5β1 during the first trimester in both groups. Main Results and the Role Of Chance: In the normal group expression and activity of GnT-V and the concentration of its product, β1,6-GlcNAc were higher at week 9 than at weeks 6, 7 and 8 (P < 0.05). In contrast, the expression and activity of GnT-III and the concentration of its product, bis-GlcNAc were higher at week 6 than at weeks 7, 8 and 9 (P < 0.05). Compared with the normal group, the ESM group exhibited a lower expression of GnT-V and β1,6-GlcNAc (P < 0.05) and a higher expression of GnT-III and bis-GlcNAc (P < 0.05) with consistent changes in enzymatic activity. Immunofluorescence showed that GnT-V was located mainly in the cytoplasm of syncytiotrophoblasts (STBs) and chorionic villous cytotrophoblasts (CTBs), in both the ESM group and the normal group. β1,6-GlcNAc N-glycan was mainly located outside of the STB and CTB layer in normal villi and was expressed only rarely in the ESM villi. GnT-III was expressed primarily in the cytoplasm of STBs and expressed only very weakly in the CTBs of normal villi, whereas it was highly expressed in both the STBs and CTBs in the ESM group. bis-GlcNAc was primarily located outside of the STBs in the normal villi, whereas it was expressed much more abundantly outside of both the STBs and CTBs in the ESM group at each week of gestation. Moreover, decreased β1,6-GlcNAc-branched N-glycans and increased bis-GlcNAc-branched N-glycans on integrin β1 (P < 0.05) were observed in the ESM group. Wider Implications Of the Findings: Our findings provide a new insight for studying the mechanism of clinical ESM in humans and it might be valuable for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of ESM. Promotion of myofibroblast apoptosis is a potential therapeutic strategy for pulmonary fibrosis. This study investigated the antifibrotic effect of astaxanthin on the promotion of myofibroblast apoptosis based on dynamin-related protein-1 (Drp1)-mediated mitochondrial fission in vivo and in vitro. Results showed that astaxanthin can inhibit lung parenchymal distortion and collagen deposition, as well as promote myofibroblast apoptosis. Astaxanthin demonstrated pro-apoptotic function in myofibroblasts by contributing to mitochondrial fission, thereby leading to apoptosis by increasing the Drp1 expression and enhancing Drp1 translocation into the mitochondria. Two specific si RNAs were used to demonstrate that Drp1 is necessary to promote astaxanthin-induced mitochondrial fission and apoptosis in myofibroblasts. Drp1-associated genes, such as Bcl-2-associated X protein, cytochrome c, tumour suppressor gene p53 and p53-up-regulated modulator of apoptosis, were highly up-regulated in the astaxanthin group compared with those in the sham group. This study revealed that astaxanthin can prevent pulmonary fibrosis by promoting myofibroblast apoptosis through a Drp1-dependent molecular pathway. Intraseasonal variation (ISV) is especially prominent and unique in the Asian summer monsoon region. In this work, the dominant ISV mode over the Tibetan Plateau (TP) in the summer monsoon season (June-August), together with its structure and evolution, is identified using station observations, Global Precipitation Climatology Project precipitation data, and ERA-Interim during 1979-2011. Results indicate that quasi-biweekly oscillation (QBWO) is the dominant mode of ISV over the TP and is significant in terms of the circulation, precipitation, and diabatic heating fields. In particular, the QBWO is closely related to the onset and active/break phases of the TP summer monsoon. In most cases, the QBWO originates from the equatorial western Pacific and first propagates northwestward to the Bay of Bengal and northern India, then northward to the southeastern TP, and finally eastward to the East Asian area, showing a clockwise propagation pathway. Two main mechanisms are responsible for the northward propagation of the QBWO signals. The first, in operation when the QBWO signals are located to the south of 20°N, is the generation of barotropic vorticity induced by the easterly vertical shear, leading to the northward movement of the convection. The second mechanism, responsible for the propagation taking place farther north toward the TP, is a moisture advection effect that destabilizes the lower atmosphere ahead of the convection.
