Abstract

This article from the journal Endoscopy examines the optimal threshold for red blood cell (RBC) transfusion after acute gastrointestinal bleeding. The study analyzed data from the Hungarian Gastrointestinal Bleeding Registry and divided patients into different groups based on their lowest hemoglobin (Hgb) levels during hospitalization. The findings suggest that Hgb levels between 61-70 g/L may be considered safe for transfusion, compared to lower or higher thresholds. However, further randomized controlled trials are needed to validate these results. [Extracted from the article]
