Electrochemical behavior of NpO22+ on platinum (Pt) and glassy carbon (GC) electrodes have been studied in an aqueous 3M HNO3 solution using cyclic voltammetry and spectroelectrochemical method. The NpO22+ species was found to be reduced to Np(V) quasi-reversibly with the formal redox potential of +0.907 V (Pt) and +0.909 V (GC). The reduction process of NpO22+ in an aqueous 3M HNO3 solution was also followed spectroelectrochemically by using an optical transparent thin layer electrode cell. It was found that the absorption spectra measured at the applied potentials in the range of +1.05 to +0.65 V have isosbestic points at 1051 and 1124 nm and the evaluated electron stoichiometry is 0.93. These results indicate that the reduction product of NpO22+ is NpO2+. The solvent extraction behavior of minor nuclides such as neptunium and technetium in a current PUREX process and an advanced PUREX process (PARC process) were studied by chemical flow sheet experiments using spent nuclear fuels. The uranium, plutonium, neptunium and technetium fractions distributed in the products and raffinates of the PARC process showed that n-butyraldehyde was an effective reductant of neptunium(VI) in the presence of uranium(VI) and plutonium(IV). We present a case of giant calcifying epithelioma of Malherbe (pilomatrixoma) in the right upper arm of a 62-year-old man. It measured 18 x 12 x 8 cm in size, making it the largest of all the cases reported previously. CT clearly demonstrated a well-defined, subcutaneous mass with amorphous calcifications. The mass showed intermediate signal intensity on T2*-weighted MR images and slight contrast uptake on contrast-enhanced MR images. Histopathologically, this tumor showed no aggressive or malignant nature. The patient is without evidence of recurrence or metastasis 3 years following the resection. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The destruction of butyraldehyde isomers has been studied using a silver catalyzed electrochemical oxidation technique. The destruction rates of nand iso-butyraldehydes were measured as a function of the concentrations of butyraldehyde isomers, silver and nitric acid in aqueous solutions, anode potential and temperature. More than 99% of n-butyraldehyde in 3M nitric acid was destroyed within 50 minutes by electrochemical oxidation at the anode potential of 1.6V versus a reference saturated calomel electrode (SCE).
