The present work constitutes the initial experimental effort to characterise the dynamic tensile performance of basalt fibre grids employed in TRM systems. The tensile behaviour of a bi-directional basalt fibre grid was explored using a high-speed servo-hydraulic testing machine with specialised grips. Deformation and failure modes were captured using a high-speed camera. Tensile strain values were extracted from the recorded images using the MATLAB computer vision tool, 'vision.PointTracker'. The specimens, consisting of one and four rovings, were tested at intermediate (1–8/s) and quasi-static (10−3/s) strain rates. After the tensile tests, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analyses were performed to examine the microscopic failure of the material. Linear and non-linear stress–strain behaviours were observed in the range of 10−3 to 1/s and 4 to 8/s, respectively. Tensile strength, ultimate strain, toughness, and elastic modulus increased at intermediate strain rates. Overall, the dynamic increase factors for these properties, except for the latter, were between 1.4 and 2.3. At the macroscopic level, the grid failed in a brittle manner. However, microscopic analyses revealed that the failure modes of the fibre and polymer coating were strain-rate sensitive. The enhanced tensile performance of the grid under dynamic loading conditions rendered it suitable for retrofitting structures prone to extreme loading conditions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This research investigates, both experimentally and analytically, the mechanical performance of masonry specimens made with special lightweight concrete voussoirs joined with cement mortar and reinforced with TRM (Textile Reinforced Mortar) made of either fibreglass mesh, TRM with basalt mesh or FRPs (Fiber Reinforced Polymers). The specimens represent a segment of an arch. A total of 18 specimens were tested, with one-third featuring each reinforcement solution. Another variable studied was the number of sides reinforced with TRM or FRP, either one or three. The specimens were tested under eccentric compression to analyze the effectiveness of the reinforcements. An analytical model was calibrated with the experimental results and used to extrapolate the experimental results in terms of strength capacity. The specimens that exhibited the best mechanical behaviours were those reinforced with TRM using basalt mesh. The FRP reinforcement experienced prematurely debonding with the voussoirs. This paper presents a novel measurement method for evaluating the transmit/receive performance of the transmit/receive modules (TRMs) in active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar systems. Conventional TRMs structurally separate the transmitter and receiver, minimizing internal signal interference and simplifying performance verification. However, a recently developed TRM utilizes system-in-package (SiP) to achieve a compact and integrated structure. The transmitter and receiver are integrated, necessitating the verification of the transmit/receive performance so as to address the interference of internal signals during simultaneous transmission and reception. Moreover, because conventional automated measurement equipment are limited to testing the performances of the transmitter and receiver separately, assessing the influence of internal signal interference is difficult. Therefore, an automated measuring equipment capable of simultaneously testing the transmitter and receiver operations is proposed. Background: Ovarian hormones are known to modulate the immune system in the female genital tract (FGT). We sought to define the impact of the menstrual cycle on the mucosal HIV target cell levels, and tissue-resident CD4 T cells. Materials and methods: Here, we characterized the distribution, phenotype, and function of CD4 T cells with special emphasis on HIV target cells (CCR5+ and a4b7+) as well as tissue-resident memory (TRM; CD69+ and CD103+) CD4 T cells in FGT of cycling women. Peripheral blood and Endocervical cells (ECcollected from cytobrush) were collected from 105 healthy women and performed multicolor flow cytometry to characterize the various subsets of CD4 T cells. Cervicovaginal lavage (CVL) were collected for cytokine analysis and plasma were collected for hormonal analysis. All parameters were compared between follicular and luteal phase of menstrual cycle. Results: Our findings revealed no significant difference in the blood CD4 T cell subsets between the follicular and luteal phase. However, in EC, the proportion of several cell types was higher in the follicular phase compared to the luteal phase of menstrual cycle, including CCR5+a4b7-cells (p=0.01), CD69+CD103+ TRM (p=0.02), CCR5+CD69+CD103+ TRM (p=0.001) and FoxP3+ CD4 T cells (p=0.0005). In contrast, a4b7+ CCR5-cells were higher in the luteal phase (p=0.0004) compared to the follicular phase. In addition, we also found that hormonal levels (P4/E2 ratio) and cytokines (IL-5 and IL-6) were correlated with CCR5+ CD4 T cells subsets during the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle. Conclusion: Overall, these findings suggest the difference in the expression of CCR5 and a4b7 in TRM CD4 T cell subsets in endocervix of HIV seronegative women between the follicular and luteal phase. Psoriasis is a skin disease that is inflammatory and persistent, causing a high rate of recurrence, poor quality of life, and significant socioeconomic burden. Its main pathological manifestations are abnormal activation and infiltration of T cells and excessive proliferation of keratinocytes (KCs). The great majority of patients with psoriasis will relapse after remission. It usually lasts a lifetime and necessitates long‐term treatment strategies. During periods of activity and remission, one of the main cell types in psoriasis is memory T cells, which include tissue‐resident memory T (TRM) cells, central memory T (TCM) cells, and effector memory T (TEM) cells. They work by releasing inflammatory factors, cytotoxic particles, or altering cell subpopulations, leading to increased inflammation or recurrence. This article presents the results of an experimental campaign conducted on a set of four unreinforced masonry walls at full scale. The purpose of this study is to assess, using non-destructive methods, the impact of retrofitting and damage on the modal response of masonry wall systems. Each wall underwent a sequence of increasing cyclic displacements applied by an actuator at the upper end of the specimen. Modal tests based on vibrations were performed both before and after rehabilitation, as well as during the sequence of increasing displacements. It was demonstrated that frequencies can identify progressive damage when the maximum crack is about to occur, as well as the effect of wall retrofitting when mass contribution is considerable. However, the modal assurance criterion indicator (MAC) fails to properly identify a trend of decreasing correlations as progressive damage increases; instead, it is sensitive to detecting maximum crack and instability conditions. Furthermore, it was determined that the coordinated modal assurance criterion indicator (COMAC) does not identify the damage distribution as expected. However, the cumulative COMAC provides a useful tool for quick visualization and interpretation of COMAC behavior. Finally, a novel damage indicator was tested, MACVF, which improves the trend and successfully identifies the most damage-sensitive mode, especially when the maximum level of damage is reached, giving MAC values below 80%. Background: Despite the success of antiretroviral therapy (ART), people living with HIV (PLWH) suffer from a high burden of pulmonary diseases, even after accounting for their smoking status. Cytotoxic CD8 T-cells are likely implicated in this phenomenon and may act as a double-edged sword. While being essential in viral infection control, their hyperactivation can also contribute to lung mucosal tissue damage. The effects of HIV and smoking on pulmonary mucosal CD8 T-cell dynamics has been a neglected area of research, which we address herein. Methods: Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid were obtained from ART-treated PLWH (median duration of supressed viral load: 9 years; smokers: n = 14; non-smokers: n = 21) and HIV-uninfected controls (smokers: n = 11; non-smokers: n = 20) without any respiratory symptoms or active infection. Lymphocytes were isolated and CD8 T-cell subsets and homing markers were characterized by multiparametric flow cytometry. Results: Both smoking and HIV infection were independently associated with a significant increase in frequencies of total pulmonary mucosal CD8 T-cell. BAL CD8 T-cells were primarily CD69 + expressing CD103 and/or CD49a, at least one of the two granzymes (GzmA/GzmB), and little Perforin. Higher expression levels of CD103, CD69, and GzmB were observed in smokers versus non-smokers. The ex vivo phenotype of GzmA + and GzmB + cells revealed increased expression of CD103 and CXCR6 in smokers, while PLWH displayed elevated levels of CX3CR1 compared to controls. Conclusion: Smoking and HIV could promote cytotoxic CD8 T-cell retention in small airways through different mechanisms. Smoking likely increases recruitment and retention of GzmB + CD8 Trm via CXCR6 and CD103. Heightened CX3CR1 expression could be associated with CD8 non-Trm recruitment from the periphery in PLWH. In recent years, CFRP is the most popular material in strengthening RC members (columns, beams, slabs...etc.) as well as the textile-reinforced mortar (TRM) was also used as an alternative method for strengthening RC columns. The present study includes fifteen circular RC columns: One control column, ten columns strengthened by one or two layers of CFRP using EBR or EBROG methods, two columns was strengthened by textile-reinforced epoxy on grooves and last two columns were strengthened by textile reinforced mortar without grooves. The parameters of this investigation are type of strengthening technique (EBR, EBROG and TRM), number of CFRP layers, and the grooves configuration. The results showed that the columns strengthened longitudinally with one or two layers of CFRP strips using EBR technique enhanced the load-carrying capacity by 2 and 7.13%, respectively, when compared with control column. However, the load carrying capacity of RC columns strengthened by EBROG increased by the range of 11.65% to 71.4%. in comparison with control column. Finally, TRM strengthening method enhanced the load carrying capacity by about 21% to 58.5%. Also, the results showed that the EBROG and TRM approaches were improved the stiffness and ductility of the columns in comparison with EBR method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study investigates the seismic retrofit of substandard reinforced concrete (RC) columns through external jacketing of potential plastic hinge zones using sprayed glass fiber-reinforced mortar and basalt textile reinforcement. An innovative spraying method was used to apply the matrix material to the concrete surface. A total number of eight full-scale columns (four reference, four retrofitted) were tested under constant high axial load to capacity ratio and reversed cyclic lateral loading. Columns were constructed using low-strength concrete and transverse reinforcement with various spacing and inadequate hook detailing to mimic the columns in substandard structures. Test results are evaluated in terms of lateral load-drift ratio relationships, displacement ductility, stiffness degradation, energy dissipation, and residual displacements. Evaluation of the test results showed that the proposed technique is effective for seismic retrofit of substandard RC columns, particularly in terms of enhancement of displacement ductility, energy dissipation capacities, and reduction of residual displacements. Tomato fruit blotch virus (ToFBV) (Blunervirus solani, family Kitaviridae) was firstly identified in Italy in 2018 in tomato plants that showed the uneven, blotchy ripening and dimpling of fruits. Subsequent High-Throughput Sequencing (HTS) analysis allowed ToFBV to be identified in samples collected in Australia, Brazil, and several European countries, and its presence in tomato crops was dated back to 2012. In 2023, the virus was found to be associated with two outbreaks in Italy and Belgium, and it was included in the EPPO Alert list as a potential new threat for tomato fruit production. Many epidemiologic features of ToFBV need to be still clarified, including transmission. Aculops lycopersici Massee (Acariformes: Eriophyoidea), the tomato russet mite (TRM), is a likely candidate vector, since high population densities were found in most of the ToFBV-infected tomato cultivations worldwide. Real-time RT-PCR tests for ToFBV detection and TRM identification were developed, also as a duplex assay. The optimized tests were then transferred to an RT-ddPCR assay and validated according to the EPPO Standard PM 7/98 (5). Such sensitive, reliable, and validated tests provide an important diagnostic tool in view of the probable threat posed by this virus–vector system to solanaceous crops worldwide and can contribute to epidemiological studies by simplifying the efficiency of research. Fiber-reinforced cementitious matrix (FRCM) composites have been largely used to strengthen existing concrete and masonry structures in the last decade. To design FRCM-strengthened members, the provisions of the Italian CNR-DT 215 (2018) or the American ACI 549.4R and 6R (2020) guidelines can be adopted. According to the former, the FRCM effective strain, i.e., the composite strain associated with the loss of composite action, can be obtained by combining the results of direct shear tests on FRCM–substrate joints and of tensile tests on the bare reinforcing textile. According to the latter, the effective strain can be obtained by testing FRCM coupons in tension, using the so-called clevis-grip test set-up. However, the complex bond behavior of the FRCM cannot be fully captured by considering only the effective strain. Thus, a cohesive approach has been used to describe the stress transfer between the composite and the substrate and cohesive material laws (CMLs) with different shapes have been proposed. The determination of the CML associated with a specific FRCM–substrate joint is fundamental to capture the behavior of the FRCM-strengthened member and should be determined based on the results of experimental bond tests. In this paper, a procedure previously proposed by the authors to calibrate the CML from the load response obtained by direct shear tests of FRCM–substrate joints is applied to different FRCM composites. Namely, carbon, AR glass, and PBO FRCMs are considered. The results obtained prove that the procedure allows to estimate the CML and to associate the idealized load response of a specific type of FRCM to the corresponding CML. The estimated CML can be used to determine the onset of debonding in FRCM–substrate joints, the crack number and spacing in FRCM coupons, and the locations where debonding occurs in FRCM-strengthened members. Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have made significant progress in oncotherapy improving survival of patients. However, the benefits are limited to only a small subgroup of patients who could achieve durable responses. Early prediction of response may enable treatment optimization and patient stratification. Therefore, developing appropriate biomarkers is critical to monitoring efficacy and assessing patient response to ICIs. Main body: Herein, we first introduce a new potential biomarker, CD103, expressed on tissue-resident memory T cells, and discuss the potential application of CD103 PET imaging in predicting immune checkpoint inhibitor treatment. In addition, we describe the current targets of ImmunoPET and compare these targets with CD103. To assess the benefit of PET imaging, a comparative analysis between ImmunoPET and other imaging techniques commonly employed for tumor diagnosis was performed. Additionally, we compare ImmunoPET and immunohistochemistry (IHC), a widely utilized clinical method for biomarker identification with respect to visualizing the immune targets. Conclusion: CD103 ImmunoPET is a promising method for determining tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) load and response to ICIs, thereby addressing the lack of reliable biomarkers in cancer immunotherapy. Compared to general T cell markers, CD103 is a specific marker for tissue-resident memory T cells, which number increases during successful ICI therapy. ImmunoPET offers noninvasive, dynamic imaging of specific markers, complemented by detailed molecular information from immunohistochemistry (IHC). Radiomics can extract quantitative features from traditional imaging methods, while near-infrared fluorescence (NIRF) imaging aids tumor detection during surgery. This study presents the experimental results of fifteen reinforced concrete beams (150 × 100 × 2700 mm): one control beam (without strengthening); one beam strengthened with one layer of textile bonded with epoxy to the tension side of the beam; and the remaining beams were strengthened with one layer, two layers, and three layers of textile bonded with different types of mortar. Two commercially available repair mortars were investigated in addition to one mortar that was prepared in the lab. Most previous studies used special mortar mix, while this study investigated the effectiveness of commercially available mortars without any modifications. Additional U-shaped strips were used on some of the beams as anchorage to strengthen the bond of the textile layers to the concrete surface using two different schemes of the U-shaped textile. Previous research studies concentrated on the end of the beam anchorage, while this study investigated two schemes: one concerning the beam ends and the other focusing on distributing the anchorage over the beam span. The test results indicated that epoxy-bonded textile performed better in terms of strength enhancement with an increase of 33% in the ultimate load compared to the control beam, as the bond was perfect compared to mortar-bonded textile, which resulted in an increase ranging between 15 and 27% depending on the mortar type. However, the ductility or deformability was slightly better with an increase of approximately 25% in the maximum deflections of the beams strengthened with mortar-bonded textiles. The test results also showed that as the number of layers increases, there was no significant increase in strength due to bond failure. When the U- shaped strips were used along with the increasing number of textile fiber layers, gains in flexure strength and ductility were observed. The use of U-shaped strips distributed along the beam was more efficient than only anchoring the ends of the beam. From the results obtained in this study, it is believed that textile-reinforced mortars (TRMs) are a potential solution for the structural upgrading of concrete structures provided that the bond between the textile layer and the concrete surface is maintained. This article compares the shear performance of reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened with textile-reinforced mortar (TRM) and fiber-reinforced polymers (FRPs). The investigated parameters included strengthening material, i.e., TRM or FRP; two different (light and heavy) carbon meshes in the TRM strengthening method; anchor type (fan type and mechanical) and wrapping type (U-shape and side bonding). Thirteen fabricated reinforced concrete beams were strengthened and exposed to a three-point bending test. Two beams, one with insufficient shear strength (without stirrups) and the other with sufficient shear strength (with stirrups), were produced as control specimens. Eight beams were strengthened with TRM, and the remaining three beams were strengthened with FRP. The main findings from the study are as follows: (a) FRP was more successful than TRM by 5–45% in increasing the shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams depending on the parameters studied, (b) TRM with heavy carbon increased the shear capacity of beam specimens approximately 1.10 times compared to TRM with light carbon, (c) among the wrapping styles, side bonding was from 8 to 31% more effective, (d) the mechanical anchor increased the shear capacity against the fan-type anchor with a ratio ranging from 1.05 to 1.18 in U-shaped wrapping; however, the same ratio was between 0.91 and 0.94 for side bonding, and (e) the energy dissipation capacities in TRM and FRP strengthening were increased up to 3.62 and 4.13 times, respectively. In the scope of this study, the strengthening of reinforced concrete beams against to shear with different types of composite materials was investigated experimentally. A total of seventeen reinforced concrete beams, one with high shear strength and sixteen with low shear strength, were fabricated. The beam with high shear strength and one of the beams with low shear strength were chosen as reference beams. The remaining fifteen beam specimens were strengthened with textile-reinforced mortar (TRM) and carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP). While light and heavy carbon mesh were used for strengthening with TRM, unidirectional carbon textile was used for strengthening with CFRP. Other experimental parameters were the spacing of strips, the number of layers (one or two) and the way of wrapping (strip or full). Simply supported beam specimens were tested under three-point loading. Beam specimens were compared in terms of failure mode, ultimate load capacity, ductility index and energy dissipation capacity. The majority of historical buildings and structures in Oman were built using unreinforced stone masonry. These structures have deteriorated due to ageing of materials, environmental degradation, and lack of maintenance. This research investigates the physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of local building materials and the results of an experimental study on the out-of-plane bending effectiveness of an innovative strengthening method applied to existing masonry walls. The technique consists of the application of a basalt textile-reinforced sarooj mortar (TRM) on one face of the walls. Bending tests of masonry wall samples (1000 mm width, 2000 mm height, and 350 mm depth) were carried out on one unreinforced specimen and three different cases of reinforced specimens. The performance of unreinforced and reinforced specimens was analyzed and compared. The strengthened specimens were able to resist moments of out-of-plane bending 2.5 to 3 times greater than those of unreinforced specimen (160–233% increase). Moreover, the strengthened walls were able to sustain higher deformations (deflections) than the unreinforced specimen ranging from 20 to 130%. The results showed that using TRM was effective for the out-of-plane strengthening of stone masonry using a local material (sarooj) that is compatible with existing stone masonry building materials. In this study, a novel retrofitting intervention on the Hirka-i Serif Mosque (constructed in 1851), which has a significant importance for Muslims due to its historical relic preservation unit keeping the cloak of the Prophet Muhammad, was illustrated. For this purpose, first the seismic performance of the mosque was investigated through site investigations and structural analyses. A 3D finite element model of the Mosque was established, and the structural system was analyzed under the combined effects of the vertical loads and seismic actions. Additionally, the existing damages observed on the walls and vaults were investigated thoroughly. By taking the existing damages and the analyses results into consideration, a rehabilitation and seismic retrofit scheme was proposed and applied by making use of innovative materials. We consider some generalizations of BCK algebras such as for example RM, tRM, aRM (= BH) algebras and others. We investigate modal operators on such algebras. In particular, we show that the composition of two modal operators on an aRM algebra verifying the transitivity property is also a modal operator if and only if they commute. It is also proved that if two modal operators on an aRM algebra have the same image, then they coincide. Moreover, we introduce and study modal RM algebras. We define modal upper sets of RM algebras and we investigate some properties of these sets. We construct quotient modal RM algebras and we prove that if φ is a homomorphism of a modal RM algebra A onto a modal aRM algebra B, then A/Ker(φ) is isomorphic to B. Earthquakes constitute a significant cause of degradation and damage for masonry heritages, such as churches, palaces, castles, and entirely historical centers. This work aims to investigate numerically the Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) system applied as coating- reinforcement to existing stone masonry walls. Indeed, despite the FRCM is, nowadays, one of the most widely adopted systems for the consolidation of masonry structures, the knowledge on its mechanical behavior is still incomplete. In this work, diagonal compression tests performed on reinforced stone masonry panels are simulated and interpreted by adopting a sophisticated numerical framework, based on the Lattice Discrete Particle Model (LDPM), which simulates, at the length scales of the masonry stones and coating mortar grains, the fracture and failure behavior of the quasi-brittle heterogeneous materials by modeling the interaction among irregular particles. Different assumptions on the FRCM features (bond behavior and thickness of the coating mortar, and the presence or not of the fiber grid therein the coating mortar) were investigated to better understand their effect. The computational effort of using that method was rewarded from the possibility of capturing the main aspects of the material heterogeneity on the fracture propagation and damage evolution in the reinforced masonry walls. Existing buildings are often in need of strengthening interventions, and several technical solutions have been recently developed for this purpose. Among them, the use of textile-reinforced mortar (TRM) composites has gained consensus as a technically viable and economically convenient option. Moreover, TRM has the potential to be employed as a reversible and sustainable strengthening technique for masonry buildings. In this context, the present paper aims to investigate the mechanical properties of TRM systems consisting of sustainable phases, such as lime-based matrices and natural fabrics produced by waiving fibers obtained from plants, such as Jute or Flax. This class composite system can be referred to as natural TRM and is denoted by the acronym NTRM. The present study moves from the geometric and mechanical characterisation of fibres and fabrics and, after having also investigated the properties of the mortar, it reports the results of tensile tests carried out on specimens of the NTRM systems under consideration, with the main aim of providing the empirical bases of the relationships between the geometric and physical properties of the constituents and the resulting mechanical response of the composite system. The obtained results show that the considered Flax-TRM system has an apparent composite behavior, as its response to tension is clearly characterised by the well-known three stages corresponding to the elastic response, the formation of cracks, and the reinforcement response up to rupture. Conversely, the Jute-TRM system needs to be further improved in terms of balance between the properties of the matrix and the internal reinforcement. Purpose: This paper employs a textile reinforcement strain comparison to study the response of Textile Reinforced Mortars (TRM) strengthened reinforced concrete one-way slab members in flexure using the finite element method. Basalt TRM (BTRM) is a relatively new composite in structural strengthening applications. Experimental data on BTRMs are limited in the literature and numerical analyses can help further the understanding of this composite. With this notion, Abaqus finite element software is utilised to create a numerical method to capture the mechanical response of strengthened slab members instead of time-consuming laboratory experiments. Design/methodology/approach: A numerical method is developed and validated using existing experimental data set on one-way slabs strengthened using Basalt TRMs from the literature. An explicit solver is utilised to analyse the finite element model created using calibrated Concrete Damage Plasticity (CDP) parameters according to the experimental requirements. The generated model is applied to extract load, deflection and rebar strains sustained by strengthened reinforced concrete slabs as observed from the experimental reference chosen. The applicability of the developed model was studied beyond parametric studies by comparing the generated finite element tensile strain by the textile fibre with available formulae. Findings: CDP calibration done has shown its adaptability. The predicted results in the form of load versus deflection, tensile and compressive damage patterns from the numerical analysis showed good agreement with the experimental data. A parametric study on various concrete strength, textile spacing and TRM bond length obtained shows TRM's advantages and its favourability for external strengthening applications. A set of five formulae considered to predict the experimental strain showed varied accuracy. Originality/value: The developed numerical model considers strain sustained by the textile fibre to make results more robust and reliable. In recent years, a new generation of inorganic matrix-based reinforcement systems is under study worldwide known generically as textile-reinforced mortar (TRM). It is considered one of the most innovative and effective techniques for masonry rehabilitation. This paper focuses on a TRM system made of basalt fibers imbedded in an ettringitic mortar. The aim of this study is to identify the effectiveness of this kind of composite in the domain of masonry structures strengthening. The basalt-TRM performance had been investigated through direct tensile tests and single lap shear tests. Two series of direct tensile tests had been carried out on specimens characterized by two different basalt textile reinforcing ratios. The experimental results allowed to evaluate the tensile behavior of the TRM and to obtain useful information on the reinforcement concept. The use of digital image correlation facilitated a detailed description of the displacement fields and the evolution of the cracks during the tests. Two series of single lap shear tests had been carried out on brick masonry walls, reinforced with the same TRM's systems tested in tension. The formulas available in the literature for predicting the projectile impact response of reinforced concrete (RC) targets are generally developed based on the results of impact tests. Recently, however, in order to avoid performing involved and challenging projectile impact tests, the impact response of RC targets was predicted using the quasi-static punching response of RC slabs. In this paper, the concept is extended to concrete slabs strengthened with textile-reinforced mortar (TRM) or carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets externally bonded to the concrete surface. In 16 groups, 96 slabs of 600 × 600 × 90 mm size were cast and tested under quasi-static and impact loads. The slabs were reinforced with two types of reinforcement: ϕ8@100 mm and ϕ4@25 mm. The singly and doubly reinforced concrete slabs with rebar spacing of 100 mm were strengthened using externally bonded CFRP and TRM on the back side of the slab specimens. Two mixes of concrete, representing normal and high-strength concretes, were used. The results of the present study reveal that the CFRP and TRM strengthening of RC slabs enhanced the energy absorption in punching by 57–130% and 20–59%, respectively. The use of WWM in singly and doubly reinforced slabs also resulted in a 30–42% and 41–63% increase in energy absorption in punching, respectively. An earlier proposed model was modified to incorporate the influence of strengthening (CFRP and TRM) in the estimation of the projectile perforation energy of the strengthened RC slabs with the help of energy absorbed in their quasi-static punching. This perforation energy was then employed for predicting the ballistic limit of CFRP- and TRM-strengthened slabs. The vitamin D receptor (VDR) is critical in regulating intestinal homeostasis and emerging evidence demonstrates that VDR deficiency is a critical factor in inflammatory bowel disease pathology. However, no clinical data exist regarding the intestinal expression of VDR in patients after allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Analyzing intestinal biopsies from 90 patients undergoing HSCT with mortality follow-up, we demonstrated that patients with severe acute gastrointestinal graft versus host disease (GIGvHD) showed significant downregulation of VDR gene expression compared to mild or no acute GI-GvHD patients (p = 0.007). Reduced VDR expression was already detectable at acute GI-GvHD onset compared to GvHD-free patients (p = 0.01). These results were confirmed by immunohistochemistry (IHC) where patients with severe acute GI-GvHD showed fewer VDR+ cells (p = 0.03) and a reduced VDR staining score (p = 0.02) as compared to mild or no acute GI-GvHD patients. Accordingly, low VDR gene expression was associated with a higher cumulative incidence of treatment-related mortality (TRM) (p = 1.6x10-6) but not with relapse-related mortality (RRM). A multivariate Cox regression analysis identified low VDR as an independent risk factor for TRM (p = 0.001, hazard ratio 4.14, 95% CI 1.78-9.63). Furthermore, VDR gene expression significantly correlated with anti-microbial peptides (AMPs) gene expression (DEFA5: r = 0.637, p = 7x10-5, DEFA6: r 0 0.546, p = 0.001). Historically, the gold-standard benchmark for vaccine immunogenicity has been the induction of neutralizing antibodies detectable in the serum of peripheral blood. However, in recent years there has been a new appreciation for the mucosa as an important site for vaccine induced immunity. As a point of first contact, the mucosal tissue represents a major site of immune based detection and restriction of pathogen entry and dissemination. Tissue resident memory T cells (Trm) are one of the critical cell types involved in this early detection and restriction of mucosal pathogens. Following tissue-specific infection or vaccination, Trm lodge themselves within tissues and can perform rapid sensing and alarm functions to control local reinfections, in an effort that has been defined as important for restriction of a number of respiratory pathogens including influenza and respiratory syncytial virus. Despite this characterized importance, only minor attention has been paid to the importance of Trm as a benchmark for vaccine immunogenicity. The purpose of this review is to highlight the functions of Trm with particular emphasis on respiratory infections, and to suggest the inclusion of Trm elicitation as a benchmark for vaccine immunogenicity in animal models, and where possible, human samples. Influenza virus infection is restricted to airway-associated tissues and elicits both cellular and humoral responses ultimately resulting in generation of memory cells able to initiate a rapid immune response against re-infections. Resident memory T cells confer protection at the site of infection where lungresident memory T cells are important for protecting the host against homologous and heterologous influenza virus infections. Mapping kinetics of local and systemic T cell memory formation is needed to better understand the role different T cells have in viral control and protection. After infecting BALB/c mice with influenza virus strain A/Puerto Rico/8/1934 H1N1 the main proportion of activated T cells and B cells expressing the early activation marker CD69 was detected in lungs and lung-draining mediastinal lymph nodes. Increased frequencies of activated cells were also observed in the peripheral lymphoid organs spleen, inguinal lymph nodes and mesenteric lymph nodes. Likewise, antigen-specific T cells were most abundant in lungs and mediastinal lymph nodes but present in all organs studied. CD8+CD103-CD49a+ lung-resident T cells expanded simultaneously with timing of viral clearance whereas CD8+CD103+CD49a+ lung-resident T cells was the most abundant subset after resolution of infection and antigen-specific, lungresident T cells were detected up to seven months after infection. In conclusion, the results in this detailed kinetic study demonstrate that influenza virus infection elicits adaptive immune responses mainly in respiratory tract-associated tissues and that distinct subsets of lung-resident T cells expand at different time points during infection. These findings contribute to the understanding of the adaptive immune response locally and systemically following influenza virus infection and call for further studies on the roles of the lung-resident T cell subsets. The research addressed in the paper is aimed at calibrating a numerical model developed by using a free open-source finite-element code for the assessment of the structural performances of historical masonry buildings strengthened using the textile-reinforced mortar (TRM) technique. TRM is a near-surface-mounted system, which couples inorganic matrices with fiber-based textile or meshes. The main purpose is to develop a multiple-level numerical approach, starting with the detailed modeling of components and interfaces, followed by a computationally efficient intermediate level model, using layered elements, for the calibration of a lumped plasticity-based model suitable for the global analysis of structures. In this paper, the first research results are presented. In particular, a broad literature review concerning the mechanical characterization and analysis of TRM systems is collected. Then, the calibration of the numerical model, the validation through comparison with the results of experimental characterization tests available in the literature (tensile, shear bond, and in-plane shear tests) and a sensitivity analysis are reported. Nonlinear static analyses were performed, considering the nonlinearity of the composite material components and interfaces. The model was capable of accounting for the main parameters affecting the behavior of the composite material, such as the reinforcement ratio and orientation, the mortar characteristics and the wire–mortar interaction and proved to be a valid tool to investigate the optimization of TRM applicative details. This paper investigates the performance of flax textile–reinforced mortars (FTRM) as a retrofitting solution for unreinforced masonry. Six medium-scale walls were subjected to in-plane cyclic shear tests. Four of the specimens were retrofitted on both sides with one or two layers of flax textiles embedded in lime-based mortar. One bare wall and one wall strengthened only with lime-based mortar were examined as reference samples. FTRM provided up to 118% higher shear load and ultimate drift and promoted the development of energy dissipation mechanisms, while ensuring structural integrity. Based on the experimental evidence, the contribution of individual shear resisting mechanisms was assessed and existing design models were found to overestimate the stress that can be developed in the flax textile when two layers were applied. A new design model that adopts a more rational limiting strain value and accounts for the contribution of the mortar and the unique mechanical performance of FTRM systems was proposed and validated against an experimental database, including natural and advanced textile-reinforced mortar systems. Textile-reinforced mortar (TRM) is used to strengthen reinforced concrete (RC) structures using a textile and inorganic matrix. TRM is a part of textile-based composites; the basic structural behaviors, application methods, and methodologies for the extension of actual structures in TRM were studied. However, structural behavior and performance verification which depict the long-term service situation and fatigue is limited. Therefore, this study, verified the flexural behavior of TRM-strengthened beams and their fatigue performances using carbon- and alkali-resistant (AR) glass textiles through 200,000 load cycles. TRM-strengthened beams were applied to an optimization strengthening method which consisted of whether the textile was straightened. According to the test results, the strengthening efficiency of TRM-strengthened beams when subjected to cyclic loading was lower than that of the monotonic loading, except for the straightened carbon textile specimen. The average efficiency of the AR-glass textile (straightened and non-straightened) and carbon (non-straightened) was 0.86 compared to the TRM-strengthened beam subjected to monotonic loading in terms of flexural strength. In the case of deflection, the average efficiency of the AR-glass textile type was similar to the monotonic loading test results, while that of the non-straightened carbon textile was improved. The Ca-S specimen that was used to straighten the carbon textile showed a reliable structural performance with a strength efficiency of 0.99 and a deflection efficiency of 0.97 compared to the monotonic load test. Therefore, TRM strengthening using a straightened carbon textile is expected to be sufficient for the fatigue design of TRM-strengthened beams. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Textile-Reinforced Mortar (TRM) is a modern and compatible strengthening strategy for existing masonry, which consists in plastering the walls by means of mortar layers with embedded grids or textiles made of long fibers. TRM can be very useful for the reduction of the seismic vulnerability of masonry buildings, since the fiber-based reinforcement, carrying high tensile stresses, opposes the widening of cracks and provides "pseudo-ductility" to the masonry. The increasing number of available studies on the subject testifies to its relevance but also the lack of a standardized or well-establish approach to quantify the benefits of these systems on the performance of masonry. The present review is aimed at providing a broad overview of how the study of TRM-strengthened masonry elements has been addressed in the literature. In particular, the main features of the different experimental tests are compared, dealing with both in-plane and out-of-plane behavior. This paper presents an experimental investigation of the mechanical properties of rubberised concrete confined with basalt-fibre textile-reinforced mortar (TRM) jackets. The main aim is to evaluate the effectiveness of the TRM confinement scheme on cylindrical rubberised concrete specimens by examining five different mixtures (rubber content ranging from 10.5% up to 42% of the total aggregate volume), including a plain concrete reference mixture. Unconfined and confined specimens with either one or two TRM layers were subjected to monotonic axial loading. The results indicate a decrease in the compressive strength of unconfined concrete as the rubber content increased. The stress–strain curves of rubberised concrete became smoother at the peak as the rubber content increased, also exhibiting increased axial strain capacity post-peak. Rubberised concrete exhibited less brittle failure than plain concrete, accompanied by increased lateral dilation. Confinement with TRM increased the compressive strength, while also enhanced the performance in terms of toughness and axial deformation capacity compared to unconfined concrete. Overall, it is concluded that there is a promising potential for using TRM-confined rubberised concrete in applications with ductility demands and low environmental footprint specifications. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections are the leading cause of severe respiratory illness in early infancy. Although the majority of children and adults mount immune responses against RSV, recurrent infections are frequent throughout life. Humoral and cellular responses contribute to an effective immunity but also their localization at respiratory mucosae is increasingly recognized as an important factor. In the present study, we evaluate a mucosal vaccine based on an adenoviral vector encoding for the RSV fusion protein (Ad-F), and we investigate two genetic adjuvant candidates that encode for Interleukin (IL)-1β and IFN-β promoter stimulator I (IPS-1), respectively. While vaccination with Ad-F alone was immunogenic, the inclusion of Ad-IL-1β increased F-specific mucosal immunoglobulin A (IgA) and tissue-resident memory T cells (TRM). Consequently, immunization with Ad-F led to some control of virus replication upon RSV infection, but Ad-F+Ad-IL-1β was the most effective vaccine strategy in limiting viral load and weight loss. Subsequently, we compared the Ad-F+Ad-IL-1β-induced immunity with that provoked by a primary RSV infection. Systemic F-specific antibody responses were higher in immunized than in previously infected mice. However, the primary infection provoked glycoprotein G-specific antibodies as well eventually leading to similar neutralization titers in both groups. In contrast, mucosal antibody levels were low after infection, whereas mucosal immunization raised robust F-specific responses including IgA. Similarly, vaccination generated F-specific TRM more efficiently compared to a primary RSV infection. Although the primary infection resulted in matrix protein 2 (M2)-specific T cells as well, they did not reach levels of F-specific immunity in the vaccinated group. Moreover, the infection-induced T cell response was less biased towards TRM compared to vaccine-induced immunity. Finally, our vaccine candidate provided superior protection against RSV infection compared to a primary infection as indicated by reduced weight loss, virus replication, and tissue damage. In conclusion, our mucosal vaccine candidate Ad-F+Ad-IL-1β elicits stronger mucosal immune responses and a more effective protection against RSV infection than natural immunity generated by a previous infection. Harnessing mucosal immune responses by next-generation vaccines is therefore a promising option to establish effective RSV immunity and thereby tackle a major cause of infant hospitalization. Tissue-resident memory CD4 T cells (Trm) are thought to be a major contributor to asthma relapse, but the role of circulatory T cells in asthma exacerbations or to maintaining the population of lung Trm cells is not fully understood. Here, we used a house dust mite allergen-based murine model of asthma relapse, and monitored the development of lung effector/Trm phenotype CD44hiCD62LloCD69+ CD4 T cells. To determine the contribution of circulatory cells, mice were treated with FTY720, to block lymphocyte egress from lymph nodes. Inhibiting the primary migration of circulatory cells to the lungs mitigated the accumulation and expansion of allergen-driven Trm phenotype cells, but subsequent allergen challenges still resulted in strong lung inflammation and Trm cell accumulation. This was blocked if FTY720 was also given at the time of allergen re-exposure, showing that new circulatory cells contributed to this lung memory/effector T cell pool at times well after the initial sensitization. However, once lung-localized Trm cells developed at high frequency, circulatory cells were not required to maintain this population following allergen re-encounter, even though circulatory cells still were major contributors to the overall asthmatic lung inflammatory response. Our results suggest that strategies that target the response of circulatory memory T cells and Trm cells together might be required to strongly inhibit T cell reactivity to airborne allergens and to limit exacerbations of asthma and their reoccurrence, but the contribution of circulatory T cells might vary in long-term asthmatics possessing a large stable Trm cell population in the lungs. Rubber is one of the most used materials in the world; however, raw rubber shows a relatively very low mechanical strength. Therefore, it needs to be cured before its ultimate applicatios. Curing process specifications, such as the curing time and temperature, influence the material properties of the final cured product. The transient radar method (TRM) is introduced as an alternative for vulcanization monitoring in this study. Three polyurethane-rubber samples with different curing times of 2, 4, and 5.5 min were studied by TRM to investigate the feasibility and robustness of the TRM in curing time monitoring. Additionally, the mechanical stiffness of the samples was investigated by using a unidirectional tensile test to investigate the potential correlations between curing time, dielectric permittivity, and stiffness. According to the results, the complex permittivity and stiffness of the samples with 2, 4, and 5.5 min of curing time was 17.33 ± 0.07 − (2.41 ± 0.04)j; 17.09 ± 0.05 − (4.90 ± 0.03)j; 23.60 ± 0.05 − (14.06 ± 0.06)j; and 0.29, 0.35, and 0.38 kPa, respectively. Further statistical analyses showed a correlation coefficient of 0.99 (p = 0.06), 0.80 (p = 0.40), and 0.92 (p = 0.25) between curing time–stiffness, curing time–permittivity (real part), and curing time–permittivity (imaginary part), respectively. The correlation coefficient between curing time and permittivity can show the potential of the TRM system in contact-free vulcanization monitoring, as the impact of vulcanization can be tracked by means of TRM. Tertiary lymphoid structure (TLS) and tumor-resident memory T cells (TRM) play crucial roles in the anti-tumor immune response, facilitating a good prognosis in patients with cancer. However, there have been no reports on the relationship between TRM and TLS maturity. In this study, we detected TRM and the maturity of TLS by immunofluorescence staining and analyzed the relationship between their distribution and proportion in patients with lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD). The proportion of TRM within TLSs was significantly higher than that outside and was positively correlated with the survival of patients. In addition, the proportions of CD4+CD103+ TRM and CD8+CD103+ TRM were significantly increased with the gradually maturation of TLSs. We divided the patients into three levels (grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3) according to the presence of increasing maturation of TLSs. The proportion of CD103+ TRM in grade 3 patients was significantly higher than that in grade 1 and grade 2 patients, suggesting a close relationship between CD103+ TRM and TLS maturity. Furthermore, positive prognosis was associated with grade 3 patients that exhibited CD103+ T RM High phenotype. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Fabric-reinforced cementitious matrix (FRCM) composites, comprising high-strength fiber textiles embedded within inorganic matrices, represent an effective, cost-efficient, and low-invasive solution for strengthening and retrofitting existing masonry and reinforced concrete structures. Among different textiles employed in FRCM composites, polyparaphenylene benzo-bisoxazole (PBO) textiles are adopted due to their high tensile strength and good adhesion with the matrix. Although several experimental, numerical, and analytical works were performed to investigate the mechanical properties of PBO FRCM composites, limited information is available on their long-term behavior, as well as in the case of exposure to aggressive environments. This paper presents and discusses the results of a wide experimental campaign aimed at investigating the effect of different environmental conditions on the long-term tensile behavior of a PBO FRCM composite. Tests are performed using a clamping-grip tensile test set-up. The effect of various aggressive environments on the composite matrix cracking stress, composite tensile strength, ultimate strain, and fully cracked stage slope is investigated by comparing the results of nominally equal conditioned and unconditioned (control) specimens. These results are also compared with those of other FRCM composites comprising glass and carbon textiles subjected to the same conditionings, collected from the literature. The role of IL-22 in adult patients undergoing allogeneic stem cell transplantation (SCT) is of major interest since animal studies showed a protective and regenerative effect of IL-22 in graft versus host disease (GvHD). However, no clinical data exist on the tissue expression. Here we demonstrate that patients not suffering from transplant-related mortality (TRM) show significantly upregulated IL22 expression during histological and clinical GI-GvHD (p = 0.048 and p = 0.022, respectively). In contrast, in GvHD patients suffering from TRM, IL22 was significantly lower (p = 0.007). Accordingly, lower IL22 was associated with a higher probability of TRM in survival analysis (p = 0.005). In a multivariable competing risk Cox regression analysis, low IL22 was identified as an independent risk factor for TRM (p = 0.007, hazard ratio 2.72, 95% CI 1.32 to 5.61). The expression of IL22 seemed to be microbiota dependent as broad-spectrum antibiotics significantly diminished IL22 expression (p = 0.019). Furthermore, IL22 expression significantly correlated with G-protein coupled receptor (GPR)43 (r = 0.263, p = 0.015) and GPR41 expression (r = 0.284, p = 0.009). Immunotherapy against cancer and infectious disease holds the promise of high efficacy with minor side effects. Mucosal vaccines to protect against tumors or infections disease agents that affect the upper airways or the lung are still lacking, however. One mucosal vaccine candidate is the B-subunit of Shiga toxin, STxB. In this review, we compare STxB to other immunotherapy vectors. STxB is a non-toxic protein that binds to a glycosylated lipid, termed globotriaosylceramide (Gb3), which is preferentially expressed by dendritic cells. We review the use of STxB for the cross-presentation of tumor or viral antigens in a MHC class I-restricted manner to induce humoral immunity against these antigens in addition to polyfunctional and persistent CD4+ and CD8+ T lymphocytes capable of protecting against viral infection or tumor growth. Other literature will be summarized that documents a powerful induction of mucosal IgA and resident memory CD8+ T cells against mucosal tumors specifically when STxB-antigen conjugates are administered via the nasal route. It will also be pointed out how STxB-based vaccines have been shown in preclinical cancer models to synergize with other therapeutic modalities (immune checkpoint inhibitors, anti-angiogenic therapy, radiotherapy). Finally, we will discuss how molecular aspects such as low immunogenicity, cross-species conservation of Gb3 expression, and lack of toxicity contribute to the competitive positioning of STxB among the different DC targeting approaches. Protection from liver-stage malaria requires high numbers of CD8+ T cells to find and kill Plasmodium -infected cells. A new malaria vaccine strategy, prime-target vaccination, involves sequential viral-vectored vaccination by intramuscular and intravenous routes to target cellular immunity to the liver. Liver tissue-resident memory (TRM) CD8+ T cells have been shown to be necessary and sufficient for protection against rodent malaria by this vaccine regimen. Ultimately, to most faithfully assess immunotherapeutic responses by these local, specialised, hepatic T cells, periodic liver sampling is necessary, however this is not feasible at large scales in human trials. Here, as part of a phase I/II P. falciparum challenge study of prime-target vaccination, we performed deep immune phenotyping, single-cell RNA-sequencing and kinetics of hepatic fine needle aspirates and peripheral blood samples to study liver CD8+ TRM cells and circulating counterparts. We found that while these peripheral 'TRM-like' cells differed to TRM cells in terms of previously described characteristics, they are similar phenotypically and indistinguishable in terms of key T cell residency transcriptional signatures. By exploring the heterogeneity among liver CD8+ TRM cells at single cell resolution we found two main subpopulations that each share expression profiles with blood T cells. Lastly, our work points towards the potential for using TRM−like cells as a correlate of protection by liver-stage malaria vaccines and, in particular, those adopting a prime-target approach. A simple and reproducible correlate of protection would be particularly valuable in trials of liver-stage malaria vaccines as they progress to phase III, large-scale testing in African infants. Under the rapidly changing business environment and emergence of breakthrough technologies, keeping a roadmap alive appears to be a major challenge for many organizations. This is due to the fact that a roadmap itself reflects only a snapshot of an organization's strategic plan based on the information at the point when a roadmap is developed. It is crucial for an organization to monitor changes in its business environment which may exert different effects on a roadmap and assess whether such changes are sufficiently relevant and significant. If so, then an updated version of a roadmap will be required. According to current practice, the roadmap meeting is scheduled periodically to review and keep the roadmap it up-to-date. However, this approach may not be sufficiently proactive in monitoring the status of a roadmap and allowing the management to make a timely decision on its revision. This article explores the conceptual approach called data-driven roadmapping using a data-driven computerized decision support system that can be semiautomated to reflect any changes in the business environment, providing recommendations as to whether a roadmap needs to be slightly adjusted, totally revised, or remain unchanged. This paper presents a multi-level experimental and analytical investigation on the mechanical performance of TRM composites used for strengthening existing masonry structures. Micro (fabric-to-mortar bond), meso (TRM-to-substrate bond), and macro (TRM tensile response and in-plane and the out-of-plane ressponse of TRM-strengthened masonry) response of TRMs are combined and investigated in-depth for this reason. Research Aims: The aim of the present study is to explain the relationship management with tourism in Isfahan tourism enterprises using structural equation modeling methodology. Design/methodology/approach: Based on distributing 312 questionnaires, the sample size was 300 academic experts, specialists and experts working in Isfahan tourism enterprises and professors and tourists in the fields of tourism management, IT and marketing selected by combining non-probability purposive (judgmental) sampling and snowball sampling methods. Research Findings: The results showed a correlation between “applications of TRM system” and “users' satisfaction with TRM” based on path analysis concerning confirmatory factor loadings analysis as 0.566 and a correlation between “applications of TRM system” and “IMHTs” based on path analysis concerning confirmatory factor loadings analysis as 0.521. Moreover, there was a correlation between “Consumers' satisfaction with TRM” and “IMHTs” based on path analysis concerning confirmatory factor loadings analysis as 0.936. Theoretical Contribution/Originality: The conceptual model of the study involves components including “the applications of TRM system,” “satisfaction of the tourists with TRM,” and “information management of health tourists (IMHTs)”. Practitioner/Policy Implication: 1) the analysis of information of health professionals, 2) converting information of health professionals, 3) retrieving information from health professionals, strategic attention in organizational decisions in tourism enterprises of Isfahan because the general manager of cultural heritage, tourism and handicrafts of Isfahan from holding the first quarterly meeting to review the tourism situation in Isfahan in 2021 entitled “path recognition” with the presence of young and elite tourism activists and announced to create futuristic thinking and the need for elite thinking in the future of Isfahan.
