Risk analysis--a coping mechanism for the uncertainties we see everywhere around us-- is on the rise, including at the international level. It now informs, for instance, the work of the Security Council and human rights law and practice. While the story of how risk analysis has inflected international environmental law is frequently told, there has been little attention paid to the way in which risk is increasingly relevant to other areas of international law, including through "due diligence" standards. This Article fills this gap, describing risk's propagation across different international legal fields. It also offers a taxonomy of the ways in which risk is relevant. This Article distinguishes, for instance, between the way risk sometimes authorizes the state to take an action and situations where the existence of risk obligates the state to react. Finally, this Article seeks to explain potential reasons for risk's rise and indicate some of the consequences thereof, both salutary (such as greater participation in international legal decision-making) and less so (such as greater horizontal fragmentation of international law). Transplantation of vital human organs is a life saving therapy for patients with end-stage organ failure. However, donor management remains one of the most neglected areas in transplantation medicine. Brainstem death leads to heamodynamic, metabolic and immune perturbations. Failure to provide adequate physiological support during this time accounts for at least 25% of lost donor organs. Donor optimization leads to increased organ procurement and contributes to improved organ function in the recipient. This article reviews the management of the brainstem dead donor from intensive care through organ procurement whilst highlighting advances and controversies in donor care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Ambush marketing has emerged in recent years as an effective, if controversial, weapon in the arsenal of marketing departments seeking to associate themselves with sports events without the official authorization or endorsement of the event organizer. This article highlights the dangers posed by ambush marketing to owners of commercial rights in these events and examines the legal mechanisms available to prevent and minimize the likelihood of suffering damage to marketing campaigns by third-party ambush tactics. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
