In momentum space, we investigate the correlation properties of the ground state of Tonks–Girardeau gases. With Bose–Fermi mapping method, the exact ground state wavefunction in coordinate space can be obtained based on the wavefunction of spin-polarized Fermions. By Fourier transformation we obtain the ground state wavefunction in momentum space, and therefore the pair correlation and the reduced one-body density matrix (ROBDM) in momentum space, whose diagonal part is the momentum distribution. The ROBDM in momentum space is the Fourier transformation of the ROBDM in coordinate space and the pair correlation in momentum space is the Fourier transformation of the reduced two-body density matrix in coordinate space. The correlations in momentum space display larger values only in small momentum region and vanish in most other regions. The lowest natural orbital and occupation distribution in momentum space are also obtained. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We study static properties and the dynamical structure factor of zero-temperature dilute bosons interacting via a soft-shoulder potential in one dimension. Our approach is fully microscopic and employs state-of-the-art quantum Monte Carlo and analytic continuation techniques. In the present paper, we investigate the Tonks-Girardeau (TG) gas confined in a harmonic trap at finite temperature with thermal Bose-Fermi mapping method. The pair distribution, density distribution, reduced one-body density matrix (ROBDM), the first-order correlation function, the occupations number of natural orbitals and momentum distribution are evaluated. In the whole temperature regime, the pair distribution and density distribution exhibit the same properties as those of spin-polarized fermions because both of them depend on the modulus of wavefunction rather than wavefunction. While the ROBDM, the first-order correlation function, the natural orbital occupation, momentum distribution, which depend on wavefunction, of Tonks gas displays Bose properties different from spin-polarized fermions at low temperature. At high temperature we cannot distinguish Tonks gas from the spin-polarized Fermi gas qualitatively by all properties. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The one-dimensional Bose gas is an unusual superfluid. In contrast to higher spatial dimensions, the existence of non-classical rotational inertia is not directly linked to the dissipationless motion of infinitesimal impurities. Recently, experimental tests with ultracold atoms have begun and quantitative predictions for the drag force experienced by moving obstacles have become available. This topical review discusses the drag force obtained from linear response theory in relation to Landau's criterion of superfluidity. Based upon improved analytical and numerical understanding of the dynamical structure factor, results for different obstacle potentials are obtained, including single impurities, optical lattices and random potentials generated from speckle patterns. The dynamical breakdown of superfluidity in random potentials is discussed in relation to Anderson localization and the predicted superfluid-insulator transition in these systems.
