The increasing adoption of 2D/3D laser line sensors in industrial and research applications necessitates accurate and efficient simulation tools for tasks such as surface inspection, dimensional verification, and quality control. This paper presents a novel algorithm developed in MATLAB for simulating the measurements of any 2D/3D laser line sensor on STL CAD models. The algorithm uses a modified fast-ray triangular intersection method, addressing challenges such as overlapping triangles in assembly models and incorporating sensor resolution to ensure realistic simulations. Quantitative analysis shows a significant reduction in computation time, enhancing the practical utility of the algorithm. The simulation results exhibit a mean deviation of 0.42 mm when compared to real-world measurements. Notably, the algorithm effectively handles complex geometric features, such as holes and grooves, and offers flexibility in generating point cloud data in both local and global coordinate systems. This work not only reduces the need for physical prototyping, thereby contributing to sustainability, but also supports AI training by generating accurate synthetic data. Climate change is impacting marine species, leading to shifts in their distribution to higher latitudes and to deeper locations. Parasite communities are dynamic systems influenced by biotic and abiotic factors, making them valuable tools for studying ecological processes of their hosts. This work aims to assess possible changes in parasite structure that occurred in the northern stock of Cynoscion guatucupa in the Argentine Sea, over approximately 25 years, by using parasites as tags in a region characterized as a hotspot of significant warming in recent decades. Parasite assemblages of adult and juvenile fish from two periods caught at two regions of the Argentine Sea were analyzed. Species richness remained relatively constant across samples, although four of the eight compared species from juvenile fish showed significant increases in prevalence, while for adults three species decreased. Differences in parasite assemblages were significant between periods, but not between regions, indicating that the stock structure has apparently remained stable in recent years, even under a warming process that, in turn, seems to have affected its parasite assemblages which however, continue showing homogeneous parasitological attributes throughout the habitats. Most results indicate that changes in parasite burdens are not related to the population density or geographic distribution of C. guatucupa, but to changes in temperature, salinity or in the density of top predators. Parasites seem to have felt the impact of global change before their host, thus, they can be considered early sentinels to monitor the stability and distribution of this important resource. Background: The development of communication, speech and language follows three stages (development of the parent–child relationship, interactions and actual speech and language acquisition). Children born with cleft lip and/or palate are at increased risk of communicative problems while parents may be going through an emotionally difficult time. Early parent‐implemented logopaedic intervention that supports both parents and child is important. Three systematic reviews have examined the effects of early speech and language interventions, but not their structure and content. Aims: To investigate which early parent‐implemented logopaedic interventions already exist for children with cleft lip and/or palate, and to evaluate their structure, content and time of onset against the three stages of communicative development. Methods: Six databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, APA PsycInfo, Cinahl and Scopus) were searched between inception and 31 March 2023 to identify published articles that reported early parent‐implemented logopaedic interventions in children with cleft lip and/or palate, aged 0 to 3 years, clearly describing the strategies used to train parents. Two authors independently assessed the eligibility of the studies. Quality assessment was conducted using the Physiotherapy Evidence Database quality assessment tool, Single‐Case Experimental Design tool and the National Institutes of Health pre‐post‐study tools. The structure and content of the interventions were analysed taking into account the needs and difficulties of both the parents and the child according to the three stages of communicative development. Main contribution: The systematic literature search identified four studies that met the inclusion criteria. Three of them had a Level of Evidence III and one study had a Level of Evidence IV. Strategies appropriate for Stage 1 of communicative development (parent–child relationship) are well represented in only one study, but the psychosocial needs of parents are currently not included in these programmes. However, research shows that parental emotional difficulties can adversely impact a child's communicative development. Strategies appropriate for Stage 2 (promoting social interactions) are better represented. However, strategies appropriate for Stage 3 (acquiring correct speech and language patterns) are most represented in all intervention programmes. Conclusions: Three out of four intervention programmes focus on Stage 3 (actual speech and language stimulation). Stage 1 is underrepresented and the psychosocial needs of parents are currently not included in existing intervention programmes. Further research is needed in close collaboration with psychologists to construct a comprehensive, longitudinal, developmentally appropriate intervention programme that equally represents the three stages of communicative development and considers the psychosocial needs of parents. Parents of these children often have emotional problems following their child's diagnosis. The effectiveness of early intervention to facilitate the child's speech and language development has already been proven. Early intervention is recommended for both parents and child, but little is known about early parent‐implemented logopaedic interventions that also provide psychosocial support for parents. What this paper adds to existing knowledge: This review has shown that existing early parent‐implemented logopaedic interventions for children with cleft lip and/or palate focus mainly on facilitating responsive interactions and actual speech and language development (Stages 2 and 3 of communicative development).However, Stage 1, where the parent–child relationship develops, is currently not included, even though this stage is a prerequisite of subsequent stages. If parents are struggling with emotional problems (following their child's diagnosis) this can negatively impact their mental health, the parent–child relationship, attachment and their child's development. What are the potential or actual clinical implications of this work?: A clinical implication of the findings in this review is that more attention should be paid to Stage 1 of communicative development in early parent‐implemented logopaedic interventions. By working closely with the psychologist of the cleft (and craniofacial) team, any psychosocial needs of the parents can be included in the counselling. COVID-19 pandemic led to temporary closures of public schools and increased need for technology to support students' access to learning capabilities. The situation created enormous burdens for all education stakeholders with teachers struggling on how to package learning materials that are easily accessible to students at home, and parents struggling to structure a home learning environment to support their children. This research was conducted to develop an understanding of challenges that African Nova Scotian (ANS) parents faced when supporting their learners throughout the COVID-19 crisis. The underlying concern was that COVID-19 related school closures combined with a seismic shift in the learning environment would widen pre-existing achievement gaps among ANS learners. Utilising a methodology framed from a Participatory Action Research perspective, ANS household survey data was collected and analysed. Gaining a better understanding of how ANS students and their support network experienced remote learning is critical for the successful implementation of the current inclusive education policy in the Nova Scotia education system. With an understanding of the challenges faced by ANS learner households and perspectives for the future presented through an ANS lens, our study can help inform a more productive and inclusive public education system in the post-COVID-19 world. In recent decades, mussel beds in the northern Atlantic and Scandinavia have declined rapidly in extent due to anthropogenic impacts, similar to many other marine habitats. In this study, a large‐scale restoration experiment was conducted to identify major challenges that arise during restoration efforts on shallow subtidal mussel beds. Suspension‐grown mussels (Mytilus edulis) were relayed in two different treatments either directly on bare bottom sandy sediments, or on coir nets (Net), used as a proxy for suitable byssal attachment substrate. The treatments were monitored for 1.5 years and coverage (%), biomass (WW), and population dynamics were quantified. Two main challenges of shallow bed restoration were identified: (1) Lack of suitable attachment substrate resulting in dislodgment of individuals during storm events. The Net treatment had significantly higher coverage and biomass of Mytilus at the end of the monitoring period, clearly demonstrating the importance of suitable substrate at physically exposed locations. (2) High mortality of juvenile mussels. Population dynamics revealed a high mortality of juvenile Mytilus, which resulted in almost complete loss of relayed Mytilus individuals less than 30 mm within the first season. This was most likely due to high meso‐predator densities, as a result of declining top‐predator populations. The high mortality of juvenile Mytilus prevented successful annual recruitment, thereby making the population unsustainable long‐term. Both challenges need to be addressed to create stable beds during restoration. Additionally, the experiment demonstrated the viability of using suspension‐grown Mytilus as a seed‐source when restoring mussel beds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper situates Karl Popper's 'paradox of tolerance' as foundation within the context of interrogating multifaceted violent identity politics propagated in contemporary Nigeria. The paper argues that the 'active' virtue of tolerance which requires that subjects within the Nigerian polity engage each other in rationally‐driven discourse on issues of dissent does not presume long‐suffering or passive endurance of violence propagated by a side of the dissenting divide. It is thus pertinent that an appropriate intervention by the Nigerian state delineating the limits of tolerance in the face of perennial intolerance and the proliferation of violent identity politics is inevitable. Fashion is an embodied form of culture. It builds on intimate information about the wearer, concerning e.g. body shape, size, age, weight and style. As fashion is digitalized, intimate body data is shared in online environments, which raises novel concerns about the privacy of fashion consumers. This is especially visible in online shopping, which has revolutionized fashion retail and data collection practices in fashion, particularly as concerns the secure and fair use of consumer data. We argue that the datafication of fashion should be investigated as part of sustainability discourse, and data fairness be established as a responsibility criterion. We analyzed 32 popular Finnish online clothing stores. Data management was studied by analyzing the online stores' network traffic to third parties, investigating the transparency of their privacy policy documents and analyzing possible dark patterns in the website's cookie banners. Our findings raise concerns over data responsibility and privacy in various areas. The analyzed websites had a high number of third-party services, averaging 5.2. Only 17 online stores out of the examined 32 (53%) clearly mentioned that they collected identifying information and product information in their privacy policies, and only five of the stores (16%) had no dark patterns in their cookie banners. Our results also suggest that several brands that are otherwise considered ethical may need to pay more attention to their fair data processing and privacy. This indicates that a wider discussion about data privacy and data handling practices is needed. Purpose: With digitalization, using essential digital services such as online services has become increasingly common. These services process sensitive health related data, such as customers' prescription medicine orders, which makes ensuring stringent data privacy crucial. The current study examines third parties such as analytics services on Finnish pharmacy websites and investigates the nature and contents of data leaks on these websites. Methods: We perform an extensive network traffic analysis to reveal data leaks among 163 Finnish online pharmacies. We also study a set of privacy policies of these online pharmacies, and provide a legal analysis regarding the interpretation of the concept of data concerning health in the context of online pharmacies. Results: Our findings reveal serious data leaks among Finnish online pharmacies. We found 145 pharmacies had third-party services on their websites and only 18 did not. Out of all 163 online pharmacies, 57 (35.0 %) leaked a specific prescription medicine name connected with identifying personal data on the customer. We argue that the information concerning purchases on the prescription medicines should be interpreted as data concerning health to ensure efficient protection of customers' right to data protection and privacy. Conclusions: We hope that these concerning results will serve as a wake-up call for the developers and maintainers of online pharmacies and other web services processing sensitive data. Data on immune responses following COVID-19 booster vaccinations and subsequent infections in the immunocompromised are limited. We studied antibody responses after the fourth dose and subsequent infections to define patient groups benefiting most from boosters. Fourth vaccine (booster) doses were, in Finland, first recommended for severely immunocompromised individuals, whom we invited to participate in our study in 2022. We assessed spike protein-specific IgG and neutralizing antibodies (NAb) against the ancestral and Omicron BA.1 strains one month after the fourth dose from 488 adult participants and compared them to the levels of 35 healthy controls after three doses. We used Bayesian generalized linear modeling to assess factors explaining antibody levels and assessed vaccine-induced and hybrid immunity six months after the last vaccine dose. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and immunosuppressive therapy (IT) were identified as factors explaining sub-optimal antibody responses. The proportion of participants with a normal antibody response and NAbs was significantly lower regarding CKD patients compared to the controls. By the 6-month sampling point, one-third of the participants became infected (documented by serology and/or molecular tests), which notably enhanced antibody levels in most immunocompromised participants. Impaired antibody responses, especially NAbs against the Omicron lineage, suggest limited protection in individuals with CKD and highlight the need for alternative pharmaceutical preventive strategies. The study was meant to examine electronic theses and dissertations' development in Nigerian federal university libraries. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The study population comprised forty-eight institutional repository librarians in eighteen Nigerian federal university libraries. The sample consisted of forty three librarians. A questionnaire was used for data collection. The data collected were analyzed with mean and standard deviation. Findings reveal that the policies available for developing electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs) in the libraries require submission of electronic copies of theses and dissertations by students, participation of digital/IR librarians in ETD development and provision of free access to ETDs; the libraries comply with standards of Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting and Search/Retrieval via URL using DSpace for building ETDs and taking advantage of such available ICT facilities as computers, scanners, CD-ROM, LAN, internet connectivity and printer. The libraries achieve ETD through digitisation, mandating submission of electronic versions of TDs by students and creation of IR. However, the process is hindered by technological obsolescence, financial problems, absence of clearly-defined ETD development policy, required ICT facilities and trained staff, copyright, irregular power supply and unstable internet connectivity. Purpose: We investigated the effect of levodopa on postural blood pressure changes in individuals with Parkinson disease (PD) with (PD+OH) and without neurogenic OH (PD−OH). Methods: We performed a prospective randomized crossover study with autonomic testing performed ON and OFF levodopa. The primary outcome was the change in systolic blood pressure (SBP) from supine to 70° tilt at 3 min (ΔSBP-3'). Secondary outcomes included indices of baroreflex function and blood pressure and heart rate during tilt. Results: We enrolled 40 individuals with PD (21 PD+OH, 19 PD−OH), mean age (SD) 73.2 years (7.9), 13 women (32.5%)). There was no difference in age, sex, disease duration, and severity between PD+OH and PD−OH. Mean difference in ΔSBP-3' ON versus OFF levodopa in the whole study population was − 3.20 mmHg [− 7.36 to 0.96] (p = 0.14). Mean difference in ΔSBP-3' was − 2.14 mmHg [− 7.55 to 3.28] (p = 0.45) in PD+OH and − 5.14 mmHg [− 11.63 to 1.35] (p = 0.14) in PD−OH. Mean difference in ΔSBP ON versus OFF levodopa was greater at 7 and 10 min (− 7.52 mmHg [− 11.89 to − 3.15], p = 0.002, and − 7.82 mmHg [− 14.02 to − 1.67], p = 0.02 respectively). Levodopa was associated with lower absolute values of blood pressure in both PD+OH and PD−OH and cardiovascular noradrenergic baroreflex impairment. Conclusion: Levodopa decreases blood pressure in both PD with and without autonomic failure, but it does not cause a greater fall in blood pressure from supine to standing at 3 min. Levodopa-induced baroreflex sympathetic noradrenergic impairment may contribute to lower blood pressure. Lower standing blood pressure with levodopa may increase the risks of fall and syncope. The Argentine shortfin squid, Illex argentinus , inhabits in the southwest Atlantic; it is a semelparous species which grows rapidly along its 1 year lifespan. The identification of its stocks is critical for sustainable fishery exploitation. Parasites have been used as biological indicators in a lower number of studies dealing with squids, therefore a validation of this methodology is necessary. The intra- and inter-cohort variability of parasite assemblages in the summer-spawning stock of I. argentinus was analysed to assess their value as indicators of stock structure. Four squid samples from the continental shelf of central Patagonia, corresponding to 3 consecutive cohorts, were examined for metazoan parasites. Results evidenced heterogeneity in terms of parasite assemblage composition and structure, dominated by short-lived gastrointestinal parasites, with a strong influence of host size, but no effect of squid sex. These changes are related to their recent habitats and diets, which change with ontogeny and migrations, clouding any interpretation of patterns when samples spatially or temporally separated are compared. Many squid species share these characteristics; therefore, it is recommended that the use of parasites as biological tags should be restricted to simultaneous sampling, while size or age must be considered for deriving proper conclusions. Lateral flow immunoassays (LFIAs) are a simple diagnostic device used to detect targeted analytes. Wasted and unused rapid antigen lateral flow immunoassays represent mass waste that needs to be broken down and recycled into new material components. The aim of this study was to recover gold nanoparticles that are used as markers in lateral flow immunoassays. For this purpose, a dissolution process with aqua regia was utilised, where gold nanoparticles were released from the lateral flow immunoassay conjugate pads. The obtained solution was then concentrated further with gold chloride salt (HAuCl4) so that it could be used for the synthesis of new gold nanoparticles in the process of ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (USP). Various characterisation methods including scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy and optical emission spectrometry with inductively coupled plasma were used during this study. The results of this study showed that the recovery of gold nanoparticles from lateral flow immunoassays is possible, and the newly synthesised gold nanoparticles represent the possibility for incorporation into new products. Background and Objectives Osteoporosis is a multifactorial and slowly emerging global health problem. Along with menopause, one out of three women between the age group of 50 to 60 years in India suffers from osteoporosis. Indian women have an early age onset of osteoporosis as compared to their Western counterparts. The current study assessed osteoporosis knowledge and preventive practice among menopausal women. The study's objectives were to 1) assess the osteoporosis knowledge and preventive practice among women, 2) find the correlation between the knowledge and preventive practice among menopausal women, and 3) find the association of knowledge and preventive practice with selected demographic variables. Methods A quantitative nonexperimental research approach with a descriptive correlational survey design was adopted in the study. A total of 100 samples between the ages of 45 and 56 years were the participants. Data were collected using demographic proforma, a self-structured knowledge questionnaire, and a preventive practice checklist. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. Results The majority of the menopausal women (65%) were between the age group of 53 and 56 years and 79% of menopausal women were having primary education, 77% of them were unskilled workers. Fifty percent of the participants had shown adequate knowledge with a median score of 12 and the remaining half of the participants had a knowledge score < 12. The knowledge score among women was 11.47 ± 2.4 with a maximum score of 17 and the minimum score of 5. With regard to the preventive practice, the participants were 20.12 ± 2.22. Conclusion The study showed a gross deficit in osteoporosis knowledge among menopausal women and they were following unhealthy practices in their lifetime. There is a need to prioritize designing appropriate awareness campaigns regarding osteoporosis among subjects who are at risk, according to their level of literacy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background We examined the relationship between placental histopathology and transplacental antibody transfer in pregnant patients after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. Methods Differences in plasma concentrations of anti-receptor biding domain (RBD) immunoglobulin (Ig)G antibodies in maternal and cord blood were analyzed according to presence of placental injury. Results Median anti-RBD IgG concentrations in cord blood with placental injury (n = 7) did not differ significantly from those without injury (n = 16) (median 2.7 [interquartile range {IQR}, 1.8–3.6] vs 2.7 [IQR, 2.4–2.9], P = 0.59). However, they were associated with lower transfer ratios (median 0.77 [IQR, 0.61–0.97] vs 0.97 [IQR, 0.80–1.01], P = 0.05). Fish parasitological research associated with fisheries and aquaculture has expanded remarkably over the past century. The application of parasites as biological tags has been one of the fields in which fish parasitology has generated new insight into fish migration and stock assessments worldwide. It is a well-established discipline whose methodological issues are regularly reviewed and updated. Therefore, no concepts or case-studies will be repeated here; instead, we summarize some of the main recent findings and achievements of this methodology. These include the extension of its use in hosts other than bony fishes; the improvements in the selection of parasite tags; the recognition of the host traits affecting the use of parasite tags; and the increasingly recognized need for integrative, multidisciplinary studies combining parasites with classical methods and modern techniques, such as otolith microchemistry and genetics. Archaeological evidence points to the existence of parasitic problems associated with aquaculture activities more than a thousand years ago. However, the main surge of research within aquaculture parasitology occurred with the impressive development of aquaculture over the past century. Protozoan and metazoan parasites, causing disease in domesticated fish in confined environments, have attracted the interest of parasitologists and, due to their economic importance, funding was made available for basic and applied research. This has resulted in a profusion of basic knowledge about parasite biology, physiology, parasite–host interactions, life cycles and biochemistry. Due to the need for effective control methods, various solutions targeting host–parasite interactions (immune responses and host finding), genetics and pharmacological aspects have been in focus. Actuators made of dielectric elastomers are used in soft robotics for a variety of applications. However, due to their mechanical properties, they exhibit viscoelastic behaviour, especially in the initial phase of their performance, which can be observed in the first cycles of dynamic excitation. A fully fractional generalised Maxwell model was derived and used for the first time to capture the viscoelastic effect of dielectric elastomer actuators. The Laplace transform was used to derive the fully fractional generalised Maxwell model. The Laplace transform has proven to be very useful and practical in deriving fractional viscoelastic constitutive models. Using the global optimisation procedure called Pattern Search, the optimal parameters, as well as the number of branches of the fully fractional generalised Maxwell model, were derived from the experimental results. For the fully fractional generalised Maxwell model, the optimal number of branches was determined considering the derivation order of each element of the branch. The derived model can readily be implemented in the simulation of a dielectric elastomer actuator control, and can also easily be used for different viscoelastic materials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Given the abundance, heterogeneity and ubiquity of parasitic organisms, understanding how they influence biodiversity, evolution, health and ecosystem functionality is crucial, especially currently when anthropogenic pressures are altering host–parasite balances. This review describes the features, roles and impacts of metazoan parasites of fish occurring in transitional waters (TW). These aquatic ecosystems are highly productive and widespread around the globe and represent most favourable theatres for parasitism given the availability of hosts (invertebrates, fishes and birds) and an increased probability of parasite transmission, especially of those having complex life cycles. Fascinating examples of how parasitism can influence different hierarchical levels of biological systems, from host individuals and populations to entire aquatic communities, through effects on food webs come from this kind of ecosystem. Edible fish of commercial value found in TW can harbour some parasite species, significantly reducing host health, marketability and food safety, with possible economic and public health consequences. Many TW are historically exploited by humans as sources of relevant ecosystem services, including fisheries and aquaculture, and they are highly vulnerable ecosystems. Alteration of TW can be revealed through the study of parasite communities, contributing, as bioindicators, for assessing environmental changes, health and restoration. Fish parasites can provide much information about TW, but this potential appears to be not fully exploited. In filling lines equipped with membrane separation devices in the form of filters energy, consumption is only one of the important working parameters, the other being sustainable filter performance in terms of separation efficiency. As the filling line is typically equipped with a valve, intermittent operation of the filter is an important form of its use. Whereas the overall energy consumption of the filtration process is governed by the continuous operation mode, the intermittent mode, characterised by opening/closing of the valve, contributes most to problems of filter failure, i.e., the breakthrough of filtered particles through the membrane. A model for determination of the energy intake of a microfiltration membrane during the opening and closing of a valve is presented in this work. The model is based on computational analysis of the pressure wave signals recorded during the opening/closing of the valve using Fourier transform, and expressed in a nondimensional filter area specific energy intake form. The model is applied to a case of constant pressure dead-end microfiltration with three filter types: a single membrane filter, a stacked filter and a pleated filter with filtration surface areas ranging from 17.7 cm2 to 2000 cm2. Both clean filters, as well as partially clogged filter cases are taken into account. Second order polynomial models of the energy intake are developed and evaluated based on extensive analysis of the experimental data. The analysis of energy intake results show that the largest energy intake was observed for the clean filter case. When membrane fouling occurs at the constant flow rate values it leads to larger energy intake, however, due to a decreasing specific flow rate during fouling these values do not exceed the clean filter case. This study applied a holistic approach to the problem of controlling the temperature of critical areas of tools using conformal cooling. The entire injection molding process is evaluated at the tool design stage using four criteria, one from each stage of the process cycle, to produce a tool with effective cooling that enables short cycle times and ensures good product quality. Tool manufacturing time and cost, as well as tool life, are considered in the optimization by introducing a novel tool-efficiency index. The multi-objective optimization is based on numerical simulations. The simulation results show that conformal cooling effectively cools the critical area of the tool and provides the shortest cycle times and the lowest warpage, but this comes with a trade-off in the tool-efficiency index. By using the tool-efficiency index with non-dominated sorting, the number of relevant simulation cases could be reduced to six, which greatly simplifies the decision regarding the choice of cooling system and process parameters. Based on the study, a tool with conformal cooling channels was made, and a coolant inlet temperature of 20 °C and a flow rate of 5 L/min for conformal and 7.5–9.5 L/min for conventional cooling channels were selected for production. Introduction  The time of examination and evaluation is a stressful period where stress is on its highest levels. To some extent, low level of stress can help in motivating the students; however, on the contrary more stress can be discouraging. It will make students exhausted, overwhelmed, and confused. So, the present study focuses on assessing the academic test anxiety and self-esteem among undergraduates. The objectives of the study were: determining the academic test anxiety and self-esteem among students and find out the correlation and association between academic test anxiety and self-esteem. Materials and Methods  A quantitative research approach had been adopted and descriptive correlational survey design was used to identify the academic test anxiety and self-esteem among first year students from selected constituent colleges of NITTE (Deemed to be University) at Paneer campus. The sample consisted of 300 first year undergraduate students. The participants were selected using convenient sampling technique. The data were collected using the sociodemographic pro forma, standardized Westside Test Anxiety Scale and State Self-Esteem Scale. The data were computed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics like Karl Pearson's correlation coefficient test, Fisher's exact value, and chi-square value. Result  Majority of (79.9%) of the participants were in the age group of 18 to 19 years. The mean age of the participants was 18.56 ± 0.928 with minimum age 17 and maximum age of 21. Regarding entry level percentage of marks (Pre-University Course/+ 2), 34.7% of participants secured with more than 80% of marks in their entry level examination followed by 38.2% of the participants scoring between 70 and 79% and only 16 (5.6%) participants counted between 45 and 59%. Majority (76%) of the participants were females. The study reveals that 32.3% of the participants experienced moderate level of test anxiety and 17% of the participants experienced severe level of test anxiety followed by 34.7% participants experiencing mild levels of test anxiety. The mean test anxiety score was 2.97 ± 0.55 which indicates that average participants were showing moderate level of test anxiety. There is a significant medium positive correlation between academic test anxiety and self-esteem (r value = 0.497 and p ≤ 0.001). As the p -value was more than 0.05 (p  = 0.09, p  = 0.86), there is no significant association found between previous academic performance with level of academic test anxiety or self-esteem. Conclusion  The study concludes that, students' self-esteem can be enhanced and test anxiety can be reduced by creating an enabling environment for mentoring where they can practice assertiveness skills which will in turn boost their confidence to perform all academic tasks successfully. Populations of chondrichthyans are particularly sensitive to elevated fishing mortality due to their low reproductive potential and very low population growth.Dipturus brevicaudatus is a common and endemic skate from waters of Argentina and is frequently caught as by‐catch and is therefore extremely vulnerable to commercial fishing. There are signs of overfishing in both the northern and southern Argentine Sea and the species has been classified as 'Vulnerable' by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.A parasitological examination of 96 skates revealed 1,913 individual macroparasites belonging to 18 species and one myxozoan. Three parasite species were long‐lived and were suitable biological tags, resulting in statistically significant differences between North Patagonic and both Buenos Aires and South Patagonic regions and therefore can be used to identify stocks of D. brevicaudatus. The inclusion of short‐lived parasites in the analyses suggested the existence of three stocks.Parasite assemblages from the northern Argentine Sea (Buenos Aires, Argentine biogeographical province) and from Patagonian waters (North and South Patagonic, Magellanic biogeographical province) varied in terms of parasite infracommunity species richness and the relative abundance of parasite guilds.Using parasites to infer the existence of three stocks of D. brevicaudatus provides the basis to help establishing management and recovery strategies to preserve the diversity of this vulnerable skate in the south‐west Atlantic Ocean.Due to the low host specificity of the long‐lived parasite tags, there is potential to extend this methodology to other skate species that are commercially exploited in the region, whose population structures remain unknown. Objectives: The Iliac Sandwich is an off-label technique that uses parallel stent grafts to treat aortoiliac aneurysms. The purpose of this experimental study is to evaluate the conformability and juxtaposition of stent grafts combinations used in this technique through in-vitro mechanical evaluation, computed tomography (CT) analyses, and a controlled pulsatile flow system. Methods: The combinations of two Viabahn® ("V-V") or Viabahn® and Excluder® iliac extension ("V-E") were analysed using CT imaging with measurement of the gutter area by two independent analysts before and after balloon angioplasty. In a second phase, the parallel stent combinations were also evaluated using CT imaging after being implanted in the aortic aneurysm model with a pulsatile flow system with controlled temperature, viscosity, and density. Results: The "V-E" group had a better conformability when compared to the "V-V" group, ensuring smaller gutter areas (0.0064 cm2 ± 0.01 vs. 0.0228 cm2 ± 0.03, p < 0.001). Post dilatation with two non-compliant balloons resulted in enlargement of the gutter area (Area A, p 0.065; Area B, p 0.071). Conversely, post dilatation with a non-compliant balloon for the internal iliac component and a compliant balloon for the external iliac device reduced the gutter area (Area A, p 0.008; Area B, p 0.010). Conclusion: The combination of Viabahn® and Excluder® iliac extension device ("V-E") had a smaller gutter area compared to two Viabahn® parallel stents for the Iliac Sandwich Technique. In this work, we developed a numerical approach based on an experimental platform to determine the working conditions on a cryoplatform and to predict and evaluate the cryogenic printing of hydrogels. Although hydrogels have good biocompatibility, their material properties make it difficult to print them with high precision and shape fidelity. To overcome these problems, a cryogenic cooling platform was introduced to accelerate the physical stabilisation of each deposited layer during the printing process. By precisely controlling solidification (crystallisation), each printed material can withstand its own weight to maintain shape fidelity, and the porosity of the scaffolds can also be controlled more selectively. The thermophysical properties of gelatine hydrogels were investigated to gain a better understanding of the phase change upon freezing. The corresponding material properties and experimental observations of gelatine solidification served as the basis for developing a computational fluid model (CFD) to mimic the solidification of gelatine hydrogels using a cryoplatform at different process conditions and extruder speeds. Hydrocarbon prospect, analysis and characterization are entailed in the processes used in identifying and delineating features/structures in the subsurface that are likely to be potential hydrocarbon reservoirs. The research was done by analyzing and interpreting well logs and seismic data obtained from Kolo Creek. Well logs were used to identify the lithologies present, sand and shale using the gamma ray log, potential hydrocarbon zones were interpreted using the resistivity log. These identified zones were taken into consideration for Petrophysical evaluation in which parameters such as porosity, permeability, water, and hydrocarbon saturation were obtained as details in the four wells. The lithologies were correlated across the four wells to define the continuity of the identified pay zones. Seismic-to-well tie was done using checkshot data obtainable in only Well-2. Three payzones were identified and the fluid types being gas, oil and water. Porosity values ranges from 20% to 34%, water saturation obtained were within the range of 24% and 40%, and hydrocarbon saturation (defined as whole minus water saturation) ranged from 60% to 76%. These values showed that the hydrocarbon was present in commercial quantity hence production can take place. Three horizons were picked, six faults labelled A-F, four synthetic and two antithetic were identified across the seismic sections. The horizons were studied in detail, for time, depth and attribute studies. Time structural map was generated,and it showed anticlinal structure present at its center. Depth map generated also depicted information as revealed by the time map thus validating the presence of hydrocarbon. An extracted attribute map indicated areas of high amplitudes and bright spots area being indicative of hydrocarbon accumulation present. The volumetric results showed that Reservoir A had OOIP of 467 x 106 STB and STOOIP of 389 x 106 STB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Featured Application: The proposed robotic deburring cell with integrated rotary table is designed to improve the performance of robotic deburring when deburring large workpieces. Deburring is recognized as an ideal technology for robotic automation. However, since the low stiffness of the robot can affect the deburring quality and the performance of an industrial robot is generally inhomogeneous over its workspace, a cell setup must be found that allows the robot to track the toolpath with the desired performance. In this work, the problems of robotic deburring are addressed by integrating components commonly used in the machining industry. A rotary table is integrated with the robotic deburring cell to increase the effective reach of the robot and enable it to machine a large workpiece. A genetic algorithm (GA) is used to optimize the placement of the workpiece based on the stiffness of the robot, and a local minimizer is used to maximize the stiffness of the robot along the deburring toolpath. During cutting motions, small table rotations are allowed so that the robot maintains high stiffness, and during non-cutting motions, large table rotations are allowed to reposition the workpiece. The stiffness of the robot is modeled by an artificial neural network (ANN). The results confirm the need to optimize the cell setup, since many optimizers cannot track the toolpath, while for the successful optimizers, a performance imbalance occurs along the toolpath. We use GIScience to examine the socio-economic status of communities throughout Nebraska along with the accessibility of internet access at home for the use of mHealth technology. GIScience analyses provide a spatial understanding of mHealth logistics and reveal the potential for its increased application in the state. This project brings together the concepts of socio-economic development and population density along with the goal of examining healthcare accessibility through mHealth adoption. Dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) are subjected to creep especially in the first few excitation cycles. This paper deals with viscoelastic constitutive models and their fractional representatives to capture time-dependent deformation of DEA on sinus excitation. The sine voltage signal with three different frequencies and the same amplitude was used for deformation of the DEA. Basic constitutive models and their fractional representations of Kelvin–Voigt, Zener, solid linear model (SLM), Burger model and Kelvin–Voigt–Maxwell model were taken into consideration for finding the optimal model describing the behavior of the DEA. The simplicity of forming governing equations of motion derived with the help of Laplace transformation for basic and fractional constitutive models is shown in the work. Electrical force was calculated with the help of Maxwell equation. Responses of constitutive models were calculated with the help of Matlab. Constitutive parameters were optimized with the help of direct search and multiple starting point search method in Matlab. Fractional SLM was found to be the most optimal for describing time-dependent deformation on sinus excitation signal for the DEA. Cartilage-hair hypoplasia is a syndromic immunodeficiency with short stature, chondrodysplasia, and variable degree of immune dysfunction. Patients with cartilage-hair hypoplasia are prone to recurrent respiratory tract infections, and the prevalence of bronchiectasis ranges from 29 to 52%. Pulmonary complications contribute significantly to the mortality; therefore, regular lung imaging is essential. However, the optimal schedule for repeated lung imaging remains unestablished. We determined the rate and correlates of progression of structural lung changes in a prospectively followed cohort of 16 patients with cartilage-hair hypoplasia. We analyzed clinical, laboratory, and pulmonary functional testing data and performed lung magnetic resonance imaging at a median interval of 6.8 years since previous imaging. Imaging findings remained identical or improved due to disappearance of inflammatory changes in all evaluated patients. Patients with subtle signs of bronchiectasis on imaging tended to have low immunoglobulin M levels, as well as suffered from pneumonia during the follow-up. Most risk tolerance studies are quantitative, even though many factors that may affect the manifestation of risk tolerance are qualitative. This study employed a mixed‐methods approach to investigate how individuals consider risk tolerance as it relates to their financial situation. Fuzzy‐trace theory, a psycholinguistic theory of risk processing rooted in prospect theory that is becoming increasingly popular in the medical field, guided the study. Quantitative results indicate that stated versus revealed measures of risk tolerance are not consistent for most people. However, higher risk literacy increases the likelihood of consistency. Adult Anisakis Dujardin, 1845 were found in two specimens of killer whale Orcinus orca and one specimen of franciscana Pontoporia blainvillei stranded from off the coast of Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Genetic identification of the nematodes (N = 144) was performed by sequence analysis of the mitochondrial (mtDNA cox2) and the nuclear (nas 10 nDNA) gene loci. Anisakis pegreffii and Anisakis berlandi were detected in the two individuals of O. orca, while Anisakis typica and A. pegreffii were identified in P. blainvillei. Morphological and morphometric analysis also carried out on adult specimens of A. pegreffii and A. berlandi has allowed to underlining the usefulness of genetic/molecular markers in their recognition. This represents the first record of A. pegreffii in O. orca and P. blainvillei and of A. berlandi in O. orca. This is also the first sympatric and syntopic occurrence, as adults, of A. pegreffii and A. berlandi from the Austral Region of the Atlantic Ocean waters. These results provide insights into the knowledge of the host ranges and geographical distribution of these parasites in the basin waters of the region. Pontoporia blainvillei showed low abundance values of infection with Anisakis spp., which is the general pattern for coastal dolphins in the area, whereas O. orca harboured higher abundance of Anisakis spp. than those previously recorded among cetacean species in the Argentine Sea. Differences in the Anisakis spp. distribution and their parasitic loads, observed among the three host specimens, are discussed in relation to the oceanographic parameters, as well as to the host ecology. The usefulness of genetic/molecular markers in the recognition of adults of the sibling species A. pegreffii and A. berlandi with considerable overlapping in morphometric and morphological characters was underlined. The distribution of Anisakis species from Southwestern Atlantic waters is discussed in relation to their value as indicators for studies on the zoogeography of their hosts at a regional-scale level. Identifying populations and establishing the connectivity between neighbouring stocks are central issues for the assessment and management of coastal marine fish species. In this paper, we analysed the population structure of the demersal sciaenid argentine croaker Umbrina canosai, endemic in the warm, temperate southwestern Atantic between southeastern Brazil (SE) and Argentina, by combining two phenotypic techniques: otolith shape analysis and fish growth rate. Three otolith morphotypes were consistently identified, one in the northern latitudinal range in SE, and two in the southern range of the species from southern Brazil to Argentina. Two stocks with differences in growth rate were identified, one with a significantly smaller asymptotic length in the northern range (L∞ = 340.08; k = 0.267; t0 = −2.177) and the second in the southern range (L∞ = 425.08; k = 0.236; t0 = −2.46), where no growth differences were observed between fishes with the two otolith morphotypes. Although genetically U. canosai can be considered to form a single panmictic population, growth and otolith shape indicate that there are two different stocks, one in southeastern Brazil and another in the southern distribution, confirming previous parasitological studies. The difference in otolith morphotypes in the southern range suggests that two subpopulations share the same reproductive grounds, although probably feed in different locations. Fishing is the greatest source of anthropogenic impact on global marine resources and the ecosystems supporting them. The decline of many fish stocks has led to the need to apply control and protection measures to promote the recovery of these resources.In the Argentine Sea, a multispecies coastal fishery in the El Rincón region has displayed signs of overexploitation since the beginning of the century. Consequently, temporal and spatial protection measures were implemented in 2004.In previous studies, an independent stock of Percophis brasiliensis in El Rincón was identified based on the parasite communities of fish caught in 2005. However, no subsequent studies using parasite communities have been performed since the protective fishery closure measures were applied.To evaluate parasites as indicators of temporal change in the El Rincón stock of P. brasiliensis after the implementation of these protection measures, a sample from 2018 was compared with that from the previous study, as well as with three other samples. Two of the latter (Argentine Common Fishing Zone and San Matías Gulf) corresponded to previously identified independent stocks in the Argentine biogeographical province and the third was a new sample from the Magellanic Province in southern Patagonian waters.The structure and composition of parasite assemblages of the El Rincón stock of P. brasiliensis differed significantly in 2018, after several years of protective measures. The increased loads observed in several parasite species constitute a promising signal of successful ecosystem recovery. A discrete stock in the Magellanic Province was also identified, providing insights into the population structure of P. brasiliensis along its distributional range, with applications for the sustainable management of this resource. The women aging process is characterized by a gradual transition from reproductive to non reproductive life period. These changes in aging during menopause are accompanied by a wide range of physiological as well as psychological disturbing symptoms. Menopausal symptoms have been widely studied in women from western societies, but less information is available for women of non-western ethnic groups. There is evidence of differences in the prevalence of symptoms in Asian versus Western women. This study evaluates the menopausal symptom of women aged between 48 to 55 years which is important to understand the prevalence and plan for the remedial measures and also to create health awareness among women. Objective: To assess the prevalence of menopausal symptoms among women. Methods: A community-based cross-sectional study was carried out, using a stratified sampling technique. The study was conducted in three Primary Health Centres of Mangalore Taluk: Kotekar, Natekal and Mudipu. A total of 1034 samples between the ages of 48-55 years were screened under 16 subcenters. Results: The average age among menopausal women was 49.8 ± 1.51 years. The average age of attaining menopause among the participant was 48.26 years. The most common symptom reported under the domains of vasomotor is hot flushes. About 83% of the participants were experienced with hot flushes and 71% of participants are reported with night sweats. The most common psychosocial symptoms experienced by menopausal women were forgetfulness [72%], feeling anxious [52%]. The most reported physical symptoms among study participants were tiredness [80%], lack of energy [71.2%] and difficulty in sleeping [60%]. The least reported domains of menopausal symptoms were frequent urination and urinary tract infections. Under the sexual complaints, 82% of the participants reported changes in the sexual desire. Conclusion: The study has shown that the prevalence of classical menopause symptoms like profuse sweating along with hot flushes, increased anxiety, depression, wanting to be alone, and urinary tract infections were lower but, symptoms like hot flushes, night sweats, tiredness, difficulty in sleeping, changes in sexual desire were the prominent symptoms among the study participants. Polymorphid acanthocephalans are parasites of marine mammals, waterfowl and ichthyophagous birds. Among these, the genus Profilicollis is known to use exclusively decapods as intermediate hosts. Here, we report the first record of living cystacanths of Profilicollis parasitizing the body cavity of a fish host, Oligosarcus jenynsii, inhabiting the freshwater section of an estuarial system, Mar Chiquita coastal lagoon, in south-east Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. In this environment, cystacanths of Profilicollis chasmagnathi have been previously recorded infecting decapod crabs and as transient accidental infections in the gut of some carcinophagous fishes. In the present study, larvae from the crab Neohelice granulata, from the intestine of the estuarine fish Odontesthes argentinensis and from the body cavity of O. jenynsii were morphologically and genetically compared, confirming their identity as P. chasmagnathi, a species characteristic of estuaries and marine coasts along Argentina, Uruguay and Chile. These findings can be interpreted as a possible case of incipient paratenicity for Profilicollis, and a colonization event of freshwater habitats, probably promoted by the highly variable conditions, typical of ecotonal environments. In addition, cystacanths of the genus Polymorphus were also found in O. jenynsii, representing the first record of this genus in Oligosarcus from Argentina. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Present study focusses to report the tunable thermal properties of phosphorus-doped carbon nanodot (PCND) using dual-beam mode matched thermal lens spectroscopic technique. The morphological, structural, and optical characterization of prepared carbon nanodot was probed by transmission electron microscopic technique (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopic technique (XPS), UV–visible absorption spectroscopic technique and photoluminescence spectroscopic technique. The average size of PCND was found to be 4.02 ± 0.13 nm. To date, there have been a few reports the thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity of carbon dot by Dual-beam mode matched thermal lens spectroscopic technique. Among them, the present system has high value of thermal diffusivity (9.1139 ± 1.8644)*10−8 m2/s) and thermal conductivity (0.3807 ± 0.0778 W/mK). The variation in thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity of sample with different concentration was also recorded.The variation in thermal diffusivity values ranging from (9.1139 ± 1.8644)*10−8 m2/s to (2.9532 ± 0.8547)*10−8 m2/s indicates the tuning in heat transfer property of the present system by altering their concentration.These extend their application potential in microelectronic cooling as well as thermal insulation. Background Health care–associated infective endocarditis (HAIE) and intravenous drug use–related IE (IDUIE) have emerged as major groups in infective endocarditis (IE). We studied their role and clinical picture in a population-based survey. Methods A population-based retrospective study including all adult patients diagnosed with definite or possible IE in Southern Finland in 2013–2017. IE episodes were classified according to the mode of acquisition into 3 groups: community-acquired IE (CAIE), HAIE, and IDUIE. Results Total of 313 episodes arising from 291 patients were included. Incidence of IE was 6.48/100 000 person-years. CAIE accounted for 38%, HAIE 31%, and IDUIE 31% of IE episodes. Patients in the IDUIE group were younger, and they more frequently had right-sided IE (56.7% vs 5.0%; P <.001) and S. aureus as etiology (74.2% vs 17.6%; P <.001) compared with the CAIE group. In-hospital (15.1% vs 9.3%; P =.200) and cumulative 1-year case fatality rates (18.5% vs 17.5%; P =.855) were similar in CAIE and IDUIE. Patients with HAIE had more comorbidities, prosthetic valve involvement (29.9% vs 10.9%; P =.001), enterococcal etiology (20.6% vs 5.9%; P =.002), and higher in-hospital (27.8% vs 15.1%; P =.024) and cumulative 1-year case fatality rates (43.3% vs 18.5%; P <.001) than patients with CAIE. Staphylococcus aureus caused one-fifth of IE episodes in both groups. Conclusions Our study indicates that in areas where injection drug use is common IDUIE should be regarded as a major risk group for IE, along with HAIE, and not seen as part of CAIE.
