One of the most important subconscious reactions, micro-expression (ME), is a spontaneous, subtle, and transient facial expression that reveals human beings’ genuine emotion. Therefore, automatically recognizing ME (MER) is becoming increasingly crucial in the field of affective computing, providing essential technical support for lie detection, clinical psychological diagnosis, and public safety. However, the ME data scarcity has severely hindered the development of advanced data-driven MER models. Despite the recent efforts by several spontaneous ME databases to alleviate this problem, there is still a lack of sufficient data. Hence, in this paper, we overcome the ME data scarcity problem by collecting and annotating a dynamic spontaneous ME database with the largest current ME data scale called DFME (Dynamic Facial Micro-expressions). Specifically, the DFME database contains 7,526 well-labeled ME videos spanning multiple high frame rates, elicited by 671 participants and annotated by more than 20 professional annotators over three years. Furthermore, we comprehensively verify the created DFME, including using influential spatiotemporal video feature learning models and MER models as baselines, and conduct emotion classification and ME action unit classification experiments. This paper reported not only the first fluorescein liquid crystals but also revealed the influence of peripheral alkyl chains on mesomorphic properties and photophysical properties. Novel fluorescein-triphenylene dimers 4a–4f with different alkyl chains were designed and synthesised in yields of 76–83%. Samples 4a, 4b, 4c and 4d with CH3 and C4H9 exhibited the columnar mesophase but samples 4e and 4f with C8H17 showed no mesophase. The longer alkyl chains on fluorescein units resulted in the lower phase transition temperature. The too long alkyl chain destroyed the liquid crystalline behaviour. Their fluorescence quantum yields were as high as 0.78–0.87 in CH2Cl2 solution and 0.11–0.17 in solid states. The longer alkyl chains leaded to the higher emission efficiencies. By controlling the mol ratios of reactants, novel calix[4]resorcinarene–triphenylene monomer, dimer and tetramer were designed and synthesised in yields of 50–60% via Click chemistry. Their structures were characterised by NMR and MS. Their liquid crystalline behaviours were studied by differential scanning calorimetry, polarising optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. The more triphenylene units on calix[4]resorcinarene resulted in the wider temperature scopes of mesophase and higher phase transition temperatures. The monomer6and dimer7showed the mixed columnar mesophase with hexagonal columnar structure and disordered lamellar columnar structure, and compound8possessed only disordered lamellar columnar mesophase. These research results suggest that calix[4]resorcinarene was a good platform to construct columnar liquid crystal and the mesomorphic properties were greatly influenced by the substituted numbers of mesogen units on calix skeleton. Copper (Cu)-transporting P-type ATPase (CTPA) genes have been documented to play an important role in resistance to heavy metals. However, our understanding of roles of CTPA genes of the filamentous fungi was based only on sequence similarity prediction before. In a previous study, we isolated a Penicillum janthinellum strain GXCR of higher tolerance to Cu (200 mM). In this study, we cloned the partial cDNA of CTPA gene, named PcpA, from the strain GXCR. Sequence alignment indicated that the cloned cDNA sequence has the highest identity (94.4%) with a predictive CTPA gene of Aspergillus clavatus. The PcpA-encoded protein, termed PcpA, has classical functional domains of CTPAs, and shows differences from reported CTPAs in some specific sequence motifs and transmembrane regions. Expression of the PcpA was induced by extracellular Cu, cadmium (Cd), and silver (Ag). PcpA RNA interference (RNAi) mutants with a reduced level of PcpA mRNA were more sensitive to Cu, iron, Cd, and Ag than the wild-type (WT) strain GXCR. When grown in the presence of Cu, iron, and Cd, intracellular Cu and iron contents in the PcpA RNAi mutant were significantly ( P<0.05) lower than those in the WT; However, intracellular Cd content in the mutant was significantly ( P<0.05) higher than that in the WT. Taken together, it can be concluded that the PcpA functions in Cu uptake and homeostasis, iron uptake, and Cd export from the cytosol to the extracytosol. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
