Participation in competitive, integrated employment contexts is chronically low for adults with extensive support needs (ESN). Prior research indicates that adults with ESN face pervasive hardships in accessing employment opportunities that promote meaning, well-being, and dignity in their career trajectories. Experiencing dignity is a fundamental part of feeling included and valued in the workplace. This article provides recommendations for vocational practitioners and educators for how to advance dignity for people with ESN when working in or preparing to work in inclusive employment settings. These recommendations are aligned with the Elements of Dignity and voiced by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who have lived experiences in competitive, integrated employment. Aim: Temperature is regarded as an important driver of broad‐scale biodiversity patterns. However, less is known of the role of dispersal in shaping broad‐scale species and trait distributions, particularly given that species had to disperse out of glacial refugia after the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM). Here, we used a unique dataset describing the distributions of freshwater fauna combined with trait information to evaluate biodiversity relationships to distance to glacial refugia and temperature. Location: Twenty‐five biogeographical regions across Europe. Time Period: Data from species occurrence were gathered in 1978. Major Taxa Studied: A total of 2816 freshwater invertebrate species and 230 freshwater fish species. Methods: Using the occurrence of invertebrate and fish species in the biogeographical regions, and publicly available trait information, we analysed patterns in diversity indices (i.e. species richness, trait richness and trait redundancy), trait distribution and species and trait β‐diversity, and their relationship to distance to known glacial refugia and regional temperature. Results: We show that distributions of European invertebrate and fish species and traits are primarily explained by distance to refugia and its covarying effect with temperature (i.e. refugia tend to be warmer). Specifically, species and trait richness were higher in regions proximate to refugia and lower in distant regions. Additionally, communities in colder and distant regions exhibited reduced niche dimensions and slower life histories, suggesting increased vulnerability to environmental change. Main Conclusions: Species more distant from their refugia were characterized by higher dispersal capacities. Accordingly, since the LGM, only a subset of species was able to colonize distant regions, while many species have spatial ranges constrained by their dispersal capacity, increasing their potential for extinction under ongoing climate change. Adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) often face societal barriers to accessing employment due to stigma and discrimination. For people with IDD who have an employment history, little is known about their experiences in accessing employment opportunities. Self-determination behaviors are considered an integral component to a successful adulthood, yet there is limited research that gives voice to people with IDD describing their self-determination and experiences with employment. This study used qualitative content analysis to examine self-determination behaviors in employment experiences of 18 adults with disabilities. Participants provided clear examples of self-determined behaviors which benefited their navigation in work and life. Participants shared advice for other adults with IDD on how to attain employment. Young people with intellectual disabilities (ID) are at an increased risk for experiencing mental health issues compared to their peers without disabilities. Further, there are limited resources available to help accurately assess mental health disorders and that are accessible for adolescents with ID. This paper describes the iterative development and pilot testing of the Diagnostic Interview for Adolescents and Adults with Intellectual Disabilities (DIAAID). The authors utilized Evidence Center Design and Universal Design principals to develop the DIAAID; a multi-informant diagnostic interview. The DIAAID development resulted in the creation of 15 adolescents disorder interviews and 24 caregiver disorder interviews. Preliminary results suggest that the DIAAID is a feasible and accessible diagnostic interview for adolescents with ID and their caregivers. Freshwater macroinvertebrates are a diverse group and play key ecological roles, including accelerating nutrient cycling, filtering water, controlling primary producers, and providing food for predators. Their differences in tolerances and short generation times manifest in rapid community responses to change. Macroinvertebrate community composition is an indicator of water quality. In Europe, efforts to improve water quality following environmental legislation, primarily starting in the 1980s, may have driven a recovery of macroinvertebrate communities. Towards understanding temporal and spatial variation of these organisms, we compiled the TREAM dataset (Time seRies of European freshwAter Macroinvertebrates), consisting of macroinvertebrate community time series from 1,816 river and stream sites (mean length of 19.2 years and 14.9 sampling years) of 22 European countries sampled between 1968 and 2020. In total, the data include >93 million sampled individuals of 2,648 taxa from 959 genera and 212 families. These data can be used to test questions ranging from identifying drivers of the population dynamics of specific taxa to assessing the success of legislative and management restoration efforts. Environmental DNA (eDNA) extracted from water is routinely used in river biodiversity research, and via metabarcoding eDNA can provide comprehensive taxa lists with little effort and cost. However, eDNA‐based species detection in streams and rivers may be influenced by sampling season and other key factors such as water temperature and discharge. Research linking these factors and also informing on the potential of eDNA metabarcoding to detect shifts in ecological signatures, such as species phenology and functional feeding groups across seasons, is missing. To address this gap, we collected water samples every 2 weeks for 15 months at a long‐term ecological research (LTER) site and at three different positions in the river's cross section, specifically the water surface, riverbed, and riverbank. For these 102 samples, we analyzed macroinvertebrate species and molecular operational taxonomic unit (OTU) richness and temporal community turnover across seasons based on cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) metabarcoding data. Using Generalized Additive Models, we found a significant influence of sampling season on species richness. Community turnover followed a cyclic pattern, reflecting the continuous change of the macroinvertebrate community throughout the year ("seasonal clock"). Although water temperature had no influence on the inferred species richness, higher discharge reduced the number of Annelida and Ephemeroptera species detectable with eDNA. Most macroinvertebrate taxa showed the highest species richness in spring, in particular merolimnic species with univoltine life cycles. Further, we detected an increase in the proportion of shredders in winter and parasites in summer. Jupiter's South Polar Region (SPR) was observed by James Webb Space Telescope/Mid‐Infrared Instrument in December 2022. We used the Medium Resolution Spectrometer mode to provide new information about Jupiter's South Polar stratosphere. The southern auroral region was visible and influenced the atmosphere in several ways: (a) In the interior of the southern auroral oval, we retrieved peak temperatures at two distinct pressure levels near 0.01 and 1 mbar, with warmer temperatures with respect to non‐auroral regions of 12 ± 2 K and 37 ± 4 K respectively. A cold polar vortex is centered at 65°S at 10 mbar. (b) We found that the homopause is elevated to 590−118+25 ${590}_{-118}^{+25}$ km above the 1‐bar pressure level inside the auroral oval compared to 460−50+60 ${460}_{-50}^{+60}$ km at neighboring latitudes and with an upper altitude of 350 km in regions not affected by auroral precipitation. (c) The retrieved abundance of C2H2 shows an increase within the auroral oval, and it exhibits high abundances throughout the polar region. The retrieved abundance of C2H6 increases toward the pole, without being localized in the auroral oval, in contrast with previous analysis (Sinclair et al., 2018, https://doi.org/10.1016/j.icarus.2017.09.016). We determined that the warming at 0.01 mbar and the elevated homopause might be caused by the flux of charged particles depositing their energy in the SPR. The 1‐mbar hotspot may arise from adiabatic heating resulting from auroral‐driven downwelling. The cold region at 10 mbar may be caused by radiative cooling by stratospheric aerosols. The differences in spatial distribution seem to indicate that the hydrocarbons analyzed are affected differently by auroral precipitation. The instrument acquired spectroscopic data in the mid‐infrared part of the spectrum, which is sensitive to the temperature of the atmosphere and the chemical abundances. These observations revealed that within the auroral oval there are two regions of high temperatures located at two different altitudes. These are presumably caused by two different phenomena: direct heating from the incoming charged particles in the aurora at a height of 0.01 mbar and adiabatic heating in downdrafts at lower levels. A decrease in temperature was also observed as we approached the South Pole, probably caused by a cold polar vortex associated with stratospheric hazes. We found that the altitude of the homopause (the limit between the well‐mixed part of the atmosphere and the part where molecules are separated according their specific weight) is altered by the auroras, being up to 100 km higher in the auroral region. The atmospheric abundances of acetylene and ethane showed an enrichment of acetylene within the auroral oval, and of ethane at the pole, which may indicate that these molecules are not affected in the same way by the energy input of the aurora. Tracking insect biodiversity trends and predicting future trajectories is limited by a lack of monitoring data across large spatiotemporal scales. DNA metabarcoding is a time‐ and cost‐efficient method to obtain these data, but has several potential limitations in comparison to traditional morphological approaches. For example, metabarcoding may miss low‐abundance or smaller bodied individuals and is limited to presence/absence information, which may bias estimates of biodiversity and community composition. However, few comparisons of metabarcoding and morphology‐based identification have been made using insects, the by far most diverse animal taxonomic group.Here, we compared terrestrial insect communities identified via morphology versus metabarcoding across four different habitats and three seasons (late spring, mid‐summer and early autumn) during 2019. We compared identified species and community richness, composition and body size, with a focus on key taxonomic groups of bees, true bugs, butterflies and hoverflies.We identified 252 total species, with 54.8% identified by both methods, whereas 21.4% and 19.8% were solely detected with metabarcoding or morphology, respectively. Overall, total community richness, taxonomic composition and community body size were similar between methods. Metabarcoding detection successes declined in low‐abundance and smaller taxa, particularly bees, hoverflies and true bugs; however, species richness of hoverflies and butterflies tended to be higher compared with morphological identification.Our results show that metabarcoding can provide an accurate overview of insect community differences that are comparable to those determined via morphological identification. Health research documenting sexual minority adolescents exists predominately in North American literature. However, sexual minority youth exist elsewhere in the world. This study aims to provide estimates of sexual minority adolescent populations worldwide. In this systematic review, we searched Medline, Embase, CAB direct, Sociology Collection, CINAHL, Academic Search Complete, LGBT Life, Bibliography of Native American Studies, Bibliography of Asian Studies, ERIC, and PsycINFO between 2008 and 2022. We included peer-reviewed publications that focused on youth and sexual orientation or youth and sexual behavior--youth in this study were people who were between 10 and 19 years of age. Examples of publications that were excluded from our study were qualitative studies, mixed-method studies, and interventions. Publications obtained from the search results underwent a country screen, a title and abstract screen, and a methods screen, before moving onto a full-text screen. We extracted the prevalence of sexual minority youth after full-text screening. We identified 42,711 results from searching the electronic databases and an additional 105 records via hand searching. After duplicates were removed, 32,213 articles were screened and 41 studies were eligible for this review. We found estimates of sexual minority adolescents in 47 countries, with at least one estimate for each World Health Organization region. The development of inclusive laws and policies is needed on a global basis to decrease health disparities in a community of people who are at higher risk of adverse health outcomes. Using images at multiple mid‐infrared wavelengths, acquired in 2018 May using the Very Large Telescope Imager and Spectrometer (VISIR) instrument on ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT), we study Jupiter's pole‐to‐pole thermal, chemical and aerosol structure in the troposphere and stratosphere. We confirm that the pattern of cool and cloudy anticyclonic zones and warm cloud‐free cyclonic belts persists throughout the mid‐latitudes, up to the polar boundaries, and evidence a strong correlation with the vertical maximum windshear and the locations of Jupiter's zonal jets. At high latitudes, VISIR images reveal a large region of mid‐infrared cooling poleward ∼64°N and ∼67°S extending from the upper troposphere to the stratosphere, co‐located with the reflective aerosols observed by JunoCam, and suggesting that aerosols play a key role in the radiative cooling at the poles. Comparison of zonal‐mean thermal properties and high‐resolution visible imaging from Juno allows us to study the variability of atmospheric properties as a function of altitude and jet boundaries, particularly in the cold southern polar vortex. However, the southern stratospheric polar vortex is partly masked by a warm mid‐infrared signature of the aurora. Co‐located with the southern main auroral oval, this warming results from the auroral precipitation and/or joule heating which heat the atmosphere and thus cause a significant stratospheric emission. This high emission results from a large enhancement of both ethane and acetylene in the polar region, reinforcing the evidence of enhanced ion‐related chemistry in Jupiter's auroral regions. Plain Language Summary: A fundamental inquiry driving NASA's Juno mission was the investigation of the potential changes of Jupiter's famous banded structure below the top most clouds. As NASA's Juno spacecraft lacks instrumentation sensitive to the mid‐infrared, we have used the ground‐based Very Large Telescope Imager and Spectrometer (VISIR) on ESO's Very Large Telescope (VLT) to support the mission since 2016. The 2018 May data set provides a comprehensive view of Jupiter's pole‐to‐pole thermal, chemical, and aerosol structure; including the Great Red Spot; and the auroral‐related heating in the southern polar stratosphere. We show that the alternating pattern of cool cloudy zones and warm cloud‐free belts correlate to the zonal winds locations, extends from the equator to the boundary of the polar vortices (∼64°N and ∼67°S). Comparing this ground‐based data set with Juno observations, we show that the polar regions experience radiative cooling from the upper troposphere to the stratosphere, probably induced by the reflective polar aerosols, and confined at the poles by the polar vortices. However, the southern stratospheric polar vortex is partly masked by a large auroral emission, a signature of an interaction between the magnetosphere and stratosphere of Jupiter, which causes a ∼20 K warming as deep as the middle stratosphere. Excess hydrocarbons within the polar domain reinforces the evidence of enhanced ion‐related chemistry in Jupiter's auroral regions, resulting from charged particles precipitating from the top of the atmosphere to lower altitudes. Context: Improving our understanding of how riverine communities respond to anthropogenic change requires spatial comparisons across multiple sites, high-resolution temporal analyses, and examination of both taxa and trait responses. However, studies that encompass all these aspects remain scarce. Objectives: We used 10 years of annual monitoring data from 14 sampling sites in the Rhine-Main-Observatory (a Long-Term Ecological Research—LTER—site in Germany) to investigate spatiotemporal responses of stream macroinvertebrate communities along anthropogenic disturbance gradients (measured as 'ecological quality'). Methods: We examined spatiotemporal changes in various community components, including taxa, traits, metrics summarizing community responses (e.g., richness), and community composition. Results: Spatially, consistent patterns over a decade of sampling revealed that less-disturbed communities were characterized by higher taxonomic and trait diversity and occurrence of pollution-sensitive taxa. Anthropogenic disturbance tended to become less severe through time, particularly in more upstream sites, likely driven by improvements in land-use and water quality. Conversely, more downstream sites exhibited a lesser degree of improvement (or none at all) likely owing to persistent or cumulative stressors. Overall, taxonomic/trait metrics consistently reflected the magnitude of the environmental improvement, while community composition did not, suggesting a weaker link between community changes and anthropogenic impacts severity. Conclusion: Our results emphasize the importance of accounting for the variability in community responses to anthropogenic changes, and identifying optimal monitoring strategies to track such responses. In heterogeneous catchments, choosing which community component to focus and where to locate monitoring sites (e.g., monitoring ecological quality for the EU Water Framework Directive) can determine a timely detection of anthropogenic impacts. We use a long‐term record of ground‐based mid‐infrared (7.9–24.5 μm) observations, captured between 1984 and late 2019 from 3‐m and 8‐m class observatories (mainly NASA's Infrared Telescope Facility, ESO's Very Large Telescope, and the Subaru Telescope), to characterize the long‐term, multi‐decade variability of the thermal and aerosol structure in Jupiter's atmosphere. In this study, spectral cubes assembled from images in multiple filters are inverted to provide estimations of stratospheric and tropospheric temperatures and tropospheric aerosol opacity. We find evidence of non‐seasonal and quasi‐seasonal variations of the stratospheric temperatures at 10 mbar, with a permanent hemispherical asymmetry at mid‐latitudes, where the northern mid‐latitudes are overall warmer than southern mid‐latitudes. A correlation analysis between stratospheric and tropospheric temperature variations reveals a moderate anticorrelation between the 10‐mbar and 330‐mbar temperatures at the equator, revealing that upper‐tropospheric equatorial temperatures are coupled to Jupiter's Equatorial Stratospheric Oscillation. The North and South Equatorial Belts show temporal variability in their aerosol opacity and tropospheric temperatures that are in approximate antiphase with one another, with moderate negative correlations in the North Equatorial Belt and South Equatorial Belt changes between conjugate latitudes at 10°–16°. This long‐term anticorrelation between belts separated by ∼15° is still not understood. Finally we characterize the lag between thermal and aerosol opacity changes at a number of latitudes, finding that aerosol variations tend to lag after thermal variations by around 6 months at multiple latitudes. In this study, we use a large set of ground‐based observations captured in the mid‐infrared between 1984 and 2019 to characterize long‐term changes in the temperatures and aerosols. In particular, we observe that the northern mid‐latitudes above 30° are continuously warmer than their counterpart latitudes in the south at 10 mbar pressure level (the stratosphere), potentially due to differences in the polar haze in Jupiter, which extends to lower latitudes in the north compared to the south. Additionally, our study reveals for the first time that the thermal oscillation present in Jupiter's equatorial stratosphere at the 10‐mbar pressure level (known as Jupiter's Equatorial Stratospheric Oscillation) is also observed to descend to higher pressures (330 mbar), meaning that it is not confined to the stratosphere. Finally, we also discuss the lag between temperature and aerosol changes at diverse latitudes to try to identify the mechanisms responsible for the different atmospheric disturbances observed on Jupiter. There is a common narrative in the field of transition: students with disabilities continue to experience poorer post-school outcomes compared with their peers without disabilities. After decades of research and practice, scholars and practitioners have impacted countless numbers of students. However, disparate outcomes for diverse youth still exist. The Division on Career Development and Transition takes the position that if we are to begin reducing persistent differential outcomes for diverse youth, we must examine our current practices and apply anti-oppressive practices to transition planning to ensure we do not continue to perpetuate White cultural norms and ableist approaches to transition. Objective: Growth in large population-based studies assessing contributions of the gut microbiota to health and disease requires high-throughput sample processing and analysis methods. This study assessed the impact that modifications to a commercially available magnetic bead based, semi-automated DNA extraction kit had on determination of microbial composition, relative to an established in-house method involving a combination of mechanical and chemical lysis. DNA was extracted from faecal samples from healthy adults (n = 12; 34–69 years), microbial composition was determined by V3-V4 16s rRNA sequencing and compared between extraction methods. Results: Diversity metrics did not differ between extraction methods. Differences in the relative abundance of key phyla, including a significantly lower abundance of the Firmicutes (p = 0.004) and higher relative abundance of the Bacteroidetes (p = 0.005) and Proteobacteria (p = 0.008) phyla were noted where the DNA extraction did not include additional chemical and mechanical lysis. Principal coordinate analysis of family and genera level data also suggested a potential for sample pre-processing to impact microbial composition. Observations of the potential for skewed microbial composition profiles from samples prepared using a semi-automated DNA extraction kit without additional sample pre-processing highlights a need for consideration of standardisation of methodological approaches to increase the comparability of microbial compositional data. Identifying student strengths is central to transition planning. However, school personnel use few assessments that operationalize behavioral and emotional strengths, and the psychometric functioning of those measures have not been established with transition-age students. In this two-part study, we used a national sample of transition-age students to examine validity evidence for scores from the Behavioral and Emotional Rating Scale-3: Teacher Rating Scale (BERS-3 TRS). Study 1 evaluated the internal structure and test score reliability of the scores for 275 students with exceptionalities. Study II used a sample of 566 students to examine differences in scores between students with and without exceptionalities. Findings from these studies represent evidence for the validity and interpretation of scores for transition-age students with exceptionalities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Restoring river habitat heterogeneity is expensive and time consuming, yet often has little effect on aquatic biota. Such poor restoration outcomes could be partly caused by the predominance of short‐term studies, which do not account for natural temporal fluctuations nor changes in the effects of restoration through time. Consequently, research that examines the longer‐term dynamics of river restoration is crucial for providing a temporal perspective of restoration outcomes and for informing the effectiveness of restoration methods. We used the Nidda River in Germany as a case study of the temporal effects of river hydromorphological restoration on different aquatic taxa. We surveyed macroinvertebrate, macrophyte, and fish communities across three sites prerestoration (2008) and then monitored changes in one control versus two restored sites across 10 years (2010–2019). Overall, we found few effects of restoration on the macroinvertebrate and macrophyte communities, with no effects whatsoever on fishes. Restoration improved some components of the macroinvertebrate and macrophyte communities; however, these positive effects were temporally inconsistent and did not translate to improvements in river ecosystem health (based on an index of ecological quality). Our findings illustrate how allowing for more time for community development will not necessarily alter the fact that local‐scale river habitat restoration can elicit little to no change in aquatic communities. Combining local‐ with broad‐scale restoration efforts that address the primary drivers of hydroecological decline, in addition to long‐term monitoring, may therefore be required to ensure that river restorations successfully meet their ecological goals. Reflected sunlight observations from the Ultraviolet Spectrograph (UVS) on the Juno spacecraft were used to study the distribution of acetylene (C2H2) at Jupiter's south pole. We find that the shape of the C2H2 absorption feature varies significantly across the polar region, and this can be used to infer spatial variability in the C2H2 abundance. There is a localized region of enhanced C2H2 absorption which coincides with the location of Jupiter's southern polar aurora; the C2H2 abundance poleward of the auroral oval is a factor of 3 higher than adjacent quiescent, non‐auroral longitudes. This builds on previous infrared studies, which found enhanced C2H2 abundances within the northern auroral oval. This suggests that Jupiter's upper‐atmosphere chemistry is being strongly influenced by the influx of charged auroral particles and demonstrates the necessity of developing ion‐neutral photochemical models of Jupiter's polar regions. This article details an evaluation that explored the effect of introducing a dog to cognitive behavioural therapy-based anxiety management groups for young people aged between 11 years and 14 years. A total of 35 young people attended these groups, which ran either with or without a dog present. The results suggest that the presence of a therapy dog significantly reduced young people's anxiety ratings in five of the six sessions and contributed to a higher discharge rate after completing the group therapy (44% in the groups with the dog versus 28% in the groups without the dog). Qualitative feedback indicates that the presence of a therapy dog improved the young people's experiences by enabling them to feel increasingly relaxed and confident in the group. The current study evaluates lessons learned from a feasibility and acceptability trial of the Think, Be, Do, curriculum (a mental health literacy curriculum) for transition age students (14–21) in special education classrooms. Six teachers and sixty-two students from a northwest state in suburban and rural settings participated in the intervention group and were exposed to the Think, Be, Do curriculum twice a week for five weeks. Data were collected from students, teachers, and observers. A mixed methods approach captured quantitative and qualitative data from participants. Results from the implementation suggest the curriculum was feasible to implement, acceptable to teachers for their classrooms, and had preliminary increases in student mental health literacy. Stormwater wet detention ponds (hereafter "detention ponds") are implemented to mitigate impacts of urban stormwater runoff on downstream waterbodies. We evaluated the effectiveness of detention ponds in providing this protection by quantifying hydrological, chemical, and biological responses in urban depressional wetlands with and without detention ponds draining into them and comparing these responses to non-urban reference depressional wetlands. We predicted if detention ponds protect waterbodies, then the hydrology, water and soil chemistry, and plant communities of urban depressional wetlands receiving detention pond drainage should be more similar to non-urban depressional wetlands than urban depressional wetlands not receiving detention pond drainage. We found wetlands receiving detention pond drainage had post-storm water level recession rates that were slower than wetlands not receiving detention pond drainage, but faster than non-urban wetlands. We also found wetlands with and without detention ponds draining into them (i.e., urban wetlands) to be more similar to each other regarding water and soil chemistry and vegetation than to non-urban wetlands. Compared to non-urban wetlands, both urban wetland types had elevated pH, inorganic nitrogen, and total phosphorus in their soils and waters, and greater coverage and species richness of disturbance-adapted native and nonnative plant species of lower conservation value. Differences in plant communities were related to changes in hydrology and water and soil chemistry, suggesting detention ponds need to better mitigate the effects of urbanization on these factors. Our findings reveal the need to improve detention pond efficiency and/or identify alternative strategies for protecting waterbodies from the effects of urbanization. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
