Background: The research is based on the fertility status of the soil being affected year by year so here is a strategy to save the soil fertility level or soil health by the use of a leguminous cropping system. Methods: A study was conducted during 2018-2021 in the Meerut district of western Uttar Pradesh to evaluate the soil characterization of the rice - pea- sugarcane cropping system. The soil samples were analyzed for various parameters in the laboratory. The status of available NPK in soils and other soil properties like pH, electrical conductivity (EC) and organic carbon (OC) content were assessed. Result: Results reveal that the soils of the study area were neutral to strongly alkaline in reaction and non-saline in nature. Nutrient status regarding to the available nutrient in the surface (0-15 cm) and subsurface (15-30 cm) depth of soil indicate that soils are low in available N and medium in available P and K in surface and subsurface. A positive and significant correlation of NPK with organic matter content was found while significant and negative correlations exist between the soil pH. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The investigations were conducted at Sardar Vallabhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India during March 2019 to January 2020 for isolation and characterization and identification of phosphate solubilizing microbes (PSM) in soils of northern region of India. Soil samples (0-30 cm) were collected from four locations i.e. KVK, Lohaghat, SVPUAT, Meerut, College of Agriculture field, SVPUAT, Meerut and KVK, Bulandshahar covering Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand states of India and kept in refrigerator for analysis. The isolation of two rhizobial bacteria isolates (S1 and S2) in conjunction with the two-phosphate solubilizing efficient fungal isolates (F1 and F2) was carried out by the serial dilution method. The study of their morphological and microscopic characters, together with Solubilization Efficiency (SE), and Solubilization Index (SI) were also assessed. Finally, the biochemical tests were run according to their nature that was gram-negative rod by using KB002 TM HI Assorted Biochemical Test Kit (for Gram-negative rods). Between the two bacterial isolates was S1 was showing more solubilization on Pikovskaya agar (PVK) compared to S4 on the 5th day of observation, while S4 gave better results on the 8th-day solubilization observation. The biochemical tests on bacterial isolates were showing disagreement between the two, proving them as completely different isolates. The present study examines the relationship of spiritual beliefs (karma or action, generosity, surrender to almighty, altruism) and illness controllability beliefs (self, doctor, supernatural) with subjective well-being and health outcomes of women patients (N = 100) suffering from breast cancer. Participants were drawn from various medical centers and hospitals located in Varanasi city. These participants were given the measures of spiritual beliefs, illness controllability beliefs, life satisfaction, and health outcomes. Analysis showed a positive association of beliefs in "Karma" and "altruism" with "life-satisfaction" and "positive health outcomes" (e.g., hope, functional wellbeing, treatment satisfaction), and negatively with "pain" and "severity" of illness. "Self" and "doctor-control" showed a positive association with "life-satisfaction", "hope", "functional-wellbeing", and "treatment- satisfaction" and negative with "pain" and "severity". Beliefs in "Karma" and 'altruism", and "self" and "doctor-control" emerged as significant predictors of "life-satisfaction" and "positive health outcomes" of women patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In recent days, continuous rotation of cereals like rice-wheat without judicious use of chemical fertilizer put agricultural sustainability and environmental safety under trouble. Keeping these aspects on minda thrice replicated field trial conducted on sandy loam soil of S.V.P.U.A. & T. Meerut (Uttar Pradesh) in kharif season 2013. Nine treatments viz.,T1 [Control (RDF-20:40:0)], T2 (RDF+Sulphur 20 kg ha-1 ), T3 (RDF+Sulphur 40 kg ha-1), T4 (RDF+Fe 2.5 kg ha-1 ), T5 (RDF+Fe 5 kg ha-1), T6 (RDF+Sulphur 20+Fe 2.5 kg ha-1), T7 (RDF+Sulphur 20+Fe 5.0 kg ha-1), T8 (RDF+Sulphur 40+Fe 2.5 kg ha-1) and T9 (RDF+Sulphur 40+Fe 5.0 kg ha-1) were tested in RBD with three replications by using F test. The data on growth, nodulation and yield with its attributing trait were recorded on net plot area basis. (18 m2), moreover, nutrient uptake was calculated as per the standard procedure. The results revealed that plant height (51.57 cm), number of branch plant-1 (22.94), dry weight (12.10 g plant-1) number of nodules plant-1 at 30 DAS (54.39), biological yield (25.68) and nutrient uptake in straw were significantly maximum by the application of RDF along with Sulphur 40 kg ha-1 and Fe 5.0 kg ha-1 while test weight (44.60 g), harvest index (42.33%) and nutrient uptake in grain was more with under RDF along with Sulphur 40 kg ha-1 and Fe 2.5 kg ha-1. However, Biological yield was positively related to all growth parameters. A field experiment was carried out during summer seasons of 2009 and 2010 at CRC of SVPUA and T, Meerut India. Treatments comprising 4 planting geometries as main plot and 5 weed management in a split plot design with 3 replications by using F test. Experimental result revealed that plant population of 50 plants m-2 proved significantly superior over 20 plants m-2 in respect of weed density, weed dry weight at 90 DAT. Though, growth parameters viz., plant height, dry matter accumulation and No. of tillers m-2 at 90 DAT, grains weight panicle-1, grain yield (29.00 and 31.00 q ha-1), protein content, protein yield and N, P and K content in grain and straw were recorded with 50 plants m-2 followed by 40 plants m-2 during 2009 and 2010, respectively. As far as weed management practices was concerned, both chemical and mechanical methods of weed control were found significantly superior over weedy check in respect of lowest weed density and dry weight highest at 90 DAT although, significantly maximum growth parameters at 90 DAT, grains weight panicle-1 grain yield of 30.40 and 32.60 q ha-1, protein content, protein yield and N, P and K content in grain and straw were recorded with two hand weedings which was on par with Butachlor @ 1.0 kg a.i. ha-1 fb one hand weeding over rest of the weed management practices. Incidence of nutrient deficiency in soils and plants has been reported worldwide including India. The present study was conducted to characterize their chemical properties and accordingly to develop optimum land use plan to realize maximum agricultural productivity. The surface (0-15 cm) and sub-surface (15-30) soil samples were collected from cultivated soils representing the six location of Meerut district namely, Kaili (Sakoti), Milak (Sardhana), Nanu (SP), Pooth (Rohata), Bhola (Jhal) and Jani, Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India, respectively. The status of available macro, micro nutrient in soils and other soil properties like pH, electrical conductivity (EC) and organic carbon (OC) content were assessed. Results revealed that the soil of study area were neutral to strongly alkaline in reaction and non-saline in nature. Nutrient status regarding to the available macro and micro nutrient in surface (0-15 cm) and subsurface (15-30 cm) depth of soil indicate that soils are low in available N and medium in available P and K in surface and subsurface soil and in general sufficient in available Zn, Cu, Fe and Mn in the surface and subsurface layer of the soil. The Nutrient Index (NI) values were low for available nitrogen (1.16) and medium with respect to phosphorus (2.34) and potassium (1.91). in the soils of study area. A positive and significant correlation of NPK and micronutrients was found with organic matter content while significant and negative correlations exist between micronutrients and soil pH. A four replicated field experiment was conducted during kharif season 2012 at Crop Research Centre of SVPUA & T Meerut, Uttar Pradesh to evaluate SSIPNMon scented rice.Findings revealed that customized fertilizer (TATA PARAS) recorded significantly maximum tiller, dry matter at 60 DAT, 1000 seed weight (24.26 g), grain yield (39.99 q ha-1), straw yield (63.73 q ha-1) and production efficiency (35.38 kg day-1 ha-1), besides average yield (39.99 q ha-1), yield increase (48.48%) and cost over control (67.30). Moreover, 66% of RDN+RDPK+34% N by Sesbania rostreta 0.9 t ha-1 not only resulted maximum protein (7.37%), protein yield (291.63 kg ha-1), milling (72.26%) and head rice recovery (52.18%) and minimum broken (6.54%) and LB ratio (4.25) but also fetches highest net profit (Rs 80161 ha-1), extra income over control (29302 Rs ha-1) and cost benefit ratio (1:4.3) besides, it was also improved aggregate stability (59.58%) and porosity (42.51%). Furthermore, control plot recorded highest BD (1.51 g cm-3), PD (2.39 g cm-3) and soil texture such as sand (47.94%) and silt (17.28%), whereas, clay (35.71%) was shown maximum under 66% of RDN+RDPK+34% N by vermicompost 1.25 t ha-1along with infiltration rate (0.17 cm hr-1) and hydraulic conductivity (0.74 cm hr-1), however soil texture class (clay loam) remained unaffected by various treatments. Moreover, ground water quality (BIS) viz., pH (6.5-8.5), EC (<0.7),Ca+++Mg++(<20 me L-1), Carbonate (<2.5 me L-1), Bicarbonate (<1.5 me L-1) and RSC (<1.25 me L-1) in terms of irrigation water during growing period at different stages was remained safe.Consequentlythere is an imperative need to discourage farmer practices and encouraging the SSIPNM in India. A field experiment was conducted during kharif season of 2013 on sandy loam soil at CRC of S.V.P.U.A. & T. Meerut. In this investigation 09 treatment combination viz., maize with normal (1:1), paired (2:2) and strip (3:3) planted urdbean and mungbean along with all the three crops in their sole stands were tested in randomized block design with three replications. The study revealed that strip planted maize+urdbean (3:3) being on par with maize+mungbean (3:3) recorded significantly highest values of plant height, plant spread and dry matter accumulation, yield attributes viz., cob length (cm), grains row-1, grains cob-1 and test weight (g) and yield of maize in terms of biological yield (123.0 q ha-1) however, harvest index was higher under normal (1:1) maize+urdbean. In terms of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium uptake in grains and stover and their total uptake of each, strip (3:3) planted maize proved its superiority over sole and normal (1:1) planted maize. Likewise in intercrops, all the growth parameters, nodules plant-1, yield attributes, yields, nutrients uptake and their total uptake were statistically superior in their sole as compared to normal (1:1), paired (2:2) and strip (3:3) planting with maize. Therefore, strip planted maize+mungbean/ urdbean (3:3) intercropping system proved to be better growth and development, nodulation, biological yield and their contributing traits and nutrient uptake in grain and stover/straw of crops. Inoculation with strains of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi increased weight of fresh root, fresh shoot, dry root and dry shoot of soybean from 78.9 to 133.2 %, 71.6 to 125.4 %, 55.9 to 136.0 % and 111.5 to 169.2 % over the uninoculated control, respectively. The percent increase in plant height varied from 25.4 to 87.6 over the control. The root colonization, AM fungal spore population and mycorrhizal dependency of soybean at 60 days after sowing (DAS) as influenced by different AM strains ranged from 45.0 to 65.0 %, 336.0 to 426.0 spores 100 g'1 soil 163.13 to 232.53 % per cent in maize, respectively. Phenotypic and genotypic variations in response to AMF colonization is found between plant cultivars, genotypes, ecotypes, with respect to nutrient acquisition and growth. In general Glomus ACP-1 strain caused maximum value of all the parameters. The strains Glomus ACP-1 and Glomus ACP-2 were statistically superior in increasing the root dry weight, shoot dry weight (along with Scutellospora ACP-2) and spore population. As far as the efficacy of strains is concerned, the strain Glomus ACP-1 alone caused maximum and significantly higher values of plant height and root colonization over other strains. The maximum mycorrhizal dependency was also observed with the strain Glomus ACP-1, but it was statistically at par to all the other strains, except Acaulospora ACP-1 which was least effective in increasing the mycorrhizal dependency. Twenty one years (1992-2013) of weather data and yield data of wheat and mustard for 10 districts of western Uttar Pradesh were used to develop yield prediction model. The models were validated with 2014 and 2015 data set. The results revealed that pre harvest forecasting model had R2 values ranging between 22 and 81 per cent for wheat crop and between 26 and 87 per cent for mustard in the different districts.
