Experiments involving the coupling of metal and high explosives (HE) are of notable defense-related interest, and we seek to refine the uncertainty quantification associated with models of such experiments. In particular, our focus is on how uncertainty related to the metal constitutive model challenges our ability to infer high explosive model parameters when analyzing focused science experiments. We consider three focused experiments involving an HE accelerating metal: small plate tests with tantalum/LX-14 and tantalum/LX-17 pairings as well as a tantalum/LX-17 cylinder test. For all three models, we perform sensitivity analysis to ascertain the influence of metal strength on the coupled experimental response. Moreover, we calibrate each model in a Bayesian setting and study the quantification of metal strength on the inference of the HE parameters. Background: Engaging in active transport will enable individuals across the life course to increase their habitual levels of physical activity. The aim of this study was to engage citizen scientists (CS) to identify factors that influence active transport in their community. Methods: The Our Voice citizen science methodology developed at Stanford University was employed. CS completed a "discovery walk," taking photos of things that help or hinder active transport. Three groups were recruited: children aged 10–12 years (n = 11), adults (n = 12), and older adults >65 years (n = 10). CS rated each photo and provided a narrative explaining their reason for taking the photo. Once all CS in a specific age group had completed the walk, they met for a group discussion. The CS worked together to analyze the data, arranging them into themes and identifying priority actions. Two CS representatives from each age group presented their findings to the local council decision makers. Results: Children highlighted the need for safer crossings, especially from their school to the local park, and suggested zebra crossings as a solution. The adults highlighted that road signs prioritized vehicles, not pedestrians, and requested that this be reversed. Older adults noted that the poor condition of the pavements made it harder for people in wheelchairs to navigate. The CS recommendations have informed the council's walking and cycling network program. Conclusion: Engaging with citizen science provided the community with an opportunity to advocate for meaningful yet realistic improvements in the built environment that could promote neighborhood active transport and physical activity across the lifespan. We investigated thermal management challenges in semiconductor devices that use fusion bonding, with a focus on measuring the thermal resistance of the bonded interface. Starting with two fusion-bonded silicon wafers, we thinned the top wafer to below 100 μ m and used frequency domain thermoreflectance to measure the effective thermal boundary resistance of the fusion bond. We established the measurement uncertainty with a multilayer thermal diffusion model, considering the effects of the top Si layer thickness and laser spot size. The thermal boundary resistance was measured to be 0.2 and 0.5 m 2 K/MW for two types of bonded wafers, with total SiO 2 film thicknesses of 200 and 470 nm at the fusion bond layer, respectively. We also created defects at the interface and imaged these defects with the thermal phase response at specific frequencies chosen according to a thermal model. The method described can be applied to other types of wafer-to-wafer or die-to-die bonding including direct, polymeric, and metallic bonds. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Many digital platforms offer services that affect real-world socio-economic processes. One example is the impact of short-term rental platforms such as Airbnb or Wimdu on cities and neighborhoods. Because these platforms often operate in a regulatory void characterized by absent, unclear, or poorly enforced laws and regulations, local governments in affected cities have begun experimenting with a variety of instruments to regulate the operations of short-term rental platforms. In this paper, we report how such locally implemented regulatory responses have affected Airbnb's operations across 13 European cities over the period from 2015 to 2019. Using a difference-in-difference specification with synthetic controls, we assess the impact of different regulatory responses by disaggregating them into motivations, actions, targets, and outcomes. We find that the effectiveness of regulatory responses differs by type of regulation (restricting or clarifying), type of host (professional or private), as well as the enforcement (with or without the cooperation of the platform operator). Magnetic force microscopy (MFM) is long established as a powerful tool for probing the local stray fields of magnetic nanostructures across a range of temperatures and applied stimuli. A major drawback of the technique, however, is that the detection of stray fields emanating from a sample's surface rely on a uniaxial vertical cantilever oscillation, and thus are only sensitive to vertically oriented stray field components. The last two decades have shown an ever-increasing literature fascination for exotic topological windings where particular attention to in-plane magnetic moment rotation is highly valuable when identifying and understanding such systems. Here, we present a method of detecting in-plane magnetic stray field components, by utilizing a split-electrode excitation piezo that allows the simultaneous excitation of a cantilever at its fundamental flexural and torsional modes. This allows for the joint acquisition of traditional vertical mode images and a lateral MFM where the tip–cantilever system is only sensitive to stray fields acting perpendicular to the torsional axis of the cantilever. Context: Girls' high school volleyball is a popular sport with a high rate of overuse injuries and sport specialization. Health professionals perceive that high school athletes are reluctant to follow treatment plans involving sport activity reduction. This study's purpose was to describe high school girls' volleyball athletes' self-reported shoulder and knee pain, the likelihood of adhering to medical advice, and the association of factors that influence the likelihood of reporting overuse injuries and sport specialization. Study Design: Cross-sectional. Methods: Participants completed an online survey (demographics, sport participation measures, shoulder and knee pain information, medical adherence likelihood [4-point Likert: not at all likely to extremely likely], and factors influencing overuse injury reporting intentions). A 2 × 2 chi-square analysis compared factors that influence athletes' intentions to "not report an overuse injury" (eg, I thought my coach would get mad; yes/no) and sport specialization (nonhighly specialized/highly specialized athletes). Results: There were 150 participants (highly specialized = 56%, grade: ninth = 33%, 10th = 28%, 11th = 22%, 12th = 17%). At least 60% reported shoulder and knee pain related to an overuse mechanism. Most reportedly did not seek rehabilitation led by a medical provider (shoulder pain = 66%, knee pain = 60%). Only 11% of athletes reported they were "extremely likely" to rest from sporting activity during the regular season if advised by a medical professional. Highly specialized athletes were more likely to report the pursuit of a college scholarship as a factor that influences their intention to report an overuse injury compared to nonhighly specialized athletes (13% vs 3%, respectively, P =.04). Conclusions: Most girls' volleyball athletes did not treat their pain with guided rehabilitation, which may increase their risk of a worse overuse injury or even acute injury. Clinicians, athletes, parents, and coaches need to work together to create a sport culture that empowers athletes to discuss their pain and overuse injuries with medical professionals. Objective: To (1) establish extensive physiological profiles of highly trained CrossFit® athletes using gold-standard tests and (2) investigate which physiological markers best correlate with CrossFit Open performance. Methods: This study encompassed 60 participants (30 men and 30 women), all within the top 5% of the CrossFit Open, including 7 CrossFit semifinalists and 3 CrossFit Games finalists. Isokinetic dynamometers were employed to measure maximum isometric and isokinetic leg and trunk strength. Countermovement-jump height and maximum isometric midthigh-pull strength were assessed on a force plate. Peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak) was measured by a cardiopulmonary exercise test, and critical power and W′ were evaluated during a 3-minute all-out test, both on a cycle ergometer. Results: Male and female athletes' median (interquartile range) VO2peak was 4.64 (4.43, 4.80) and 3.21 (3.10, 3.29) L·min−1, critical power 314.5 (285.9, 343.6) and 221.3 (200.9, 238.9) W, and midthigh pull 3158 (2690, 3462) and 2035 (1728, 2347) N. Linear-regression analysis showed strong evidence for associations between different anthropometric variables and CrossFit Open performance in men and women, whereas for markers of cardiorespiratory fitness such as VO2peak, this was only true for women but not men. Conventional laboratory evaluations of strength, however, manifested minimal evidence for associations with CrossFit Open performance across both sexes. Conclusions: This study provides the first detailed insights into the physiology of high-performing CrossFit athletes and informs training optimization. Furthermore, the results emphasize the advantage of athletes with shorter limbs and suggest potential modifications to CrossFit Open workout designs to level the playing field for athletes across different anthropometric characteristics. The present work provides a systematic study on the influence of sample properties and experimental conditions on the reliable accessibility of Fick or mutual diffusion coefficients D11 and thermal diffusivities a in binary liquid mixtures using the shadowgraph method. For this, mixtures with varying magnitudes of the Soret coefficient ST and their optical contrast factors were studied at a temperature of 298.15 K and pressures between (0.1 and 0.65) MPa with varying magnitudes and orientations of the applied temperature and concentration gradients ∇T and ∇c. Experimental signals obtained in these investigations were analyzed with respect to the intensities of the signal contributions from non-equilibrium fluctuations (NEFs) in concentration and temperature, and the reliability of the determined D11 and a data was assessed by comparison to literature data. Larger signal intensities from NEFs and, therefore, a more reliable determination of diffusivities were given for sufficiently large magnitudes of ST, the optical contrast factors, and the applied ∇T and ∇c. At very small fluid layer thicknesses L ≤ 0.30 mm, the associated reduction of signal statistics outweighing the expected increase of signal intensities at larger magnitudes of ∇T and ∇c as well as the influence of confinement imposed limitations for the determination of diffusivities in some cases. Furthermore, an influence of the mixture composition on signal intensities from concentration-NEFs was identified, where too small mole fractions of one component can hinder the determination of D11 in mixtures with small magnitudes of the optical contrast factor (∂n/∂c)T,p. Conventional continuum solvation models are ubiquitous in computational catalysis, including for describing metal/water interfaces, which are relevant to both solution-phase heterogeneous catalysis and electrocatalysis. Nonetheless, we find that such continuum models qualitatively fail to describe both the adsorption free energy and conformational preference for many organic molecules at such interfaces, largely due to the failure of continuum models to incorporate the role of competitive water adsorption. We develop a simple phenomenological model that accounts for competitive water adsorption and show that the model, when used in conjunction with continuum solvation, provides a dramatic improvement in the description of both adsorption and conformational preference. The model is also extended to additionally incorporate the influence of applied potential at the electrode surface, thus facilitating computationally efficient applications to scenarios including electrocatalysis. Purpose: To investigate the aging and fracture resistance of screw-retained implant-supported single crowns (iSCs) fabricated from lithium disilicate containing virgilite (VLD). Materials and Methods: iSCs were fabricated from VLD (CEREC Tessera, Dentsply Sirona) and lithium disilicate (control, n = 8; IPS e.max CAD, Ivoclar) and bonded to a Ti-base abutment. VLD crowns were luted either with (VLDc, n = 8) or without (VLDw, n = 8) a coupling agent. iSCs were cleaned, sterilized, and screw-retained on implants. Fracture force was determined after thermal cycling and mechanical loading (TCML). Results: All crowns survived TCML. No significant differences in mean fracture forces were identified between VLDc (1,583 N), VLDw (1,694 N), and control (1,797 N; P = .639 ANOVA, P = 1.000 Bonferroni). Conclusions: Screw-retained iSCs fabricated from VLD provide acceptable stability, which is independent on the usage of a coupling agent for bonding to Ti-base abutments and sterilization. We like and need Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for data processing. This is measurable in the exponential growth of data processed by ICT, e.g., ICT for cryptocurrency mining and search engines. So far, the energy demand for computing technology has increased by a factor of 1.38 every 10 years due to the exponentially increasing use of ICT systems as computing devices. Energy consumption of ICT systems is expected to rise from 1500 TWh (8% of global electricity consumption) in 2010 to 5700 TWh (14% of global electricity consumption) in 2030 [A. S. G. Andrae, Eng. Appl. Sci. Lett. 3, 19–31 (2020)]. A large part of this energy is required for the continuous data transfer between separated memory and processor units, which constitute the main components of ICT computing devices in von-Neumann architecture. This, at the same time, massively slows down the computing power of ICT systems in von-Neumann architecture. In addition, due to the increasing complexity of artificial intelligence (AI) compute algorithms, since 2010, the AI training compute time demand for computing technology has increased tenfold every year, for example, from 1 × 10−6 to 1 × 10+4 Petaflops/day in the period from 2010 to 2020 [J. It has been theoretically predicted that ICT systems in the neuromorphic computer architecture will circumvent all of this through the use of merged memory and processor units. The concentration of vacancies and impurities in semiconductors plays a crucial role in determining their electrical, optical, and thermal properties. This study aims to clarify the nature of the interaction between positrons and ionized p-type impurities, emphasizing the similarities they share with the interaction between holes and this type of impurity. An overall strategy for investigating defects in semiconductor crystals that exhibit a combination of vacancies and p-type impurities is presented. By using positron annihilation spectroscopy, in particular, Doppler broadening of the annihilation radiation, we quantify the concentration of vacancies in epitaxial Si crystals grown by low-energy plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition. The vacancy number densities that we find are (1.2 ± 1.0) × 1017 cm−3 and (3.2 ± 1.5) × 1020 cm−3 for growth rates of 0.27 and 4.9 nm/s, respectively. Subsequent extended annealing of the Si samples effectively reduces the vacancy density below the sensitivity threshold of the positron technique. Secondary ion mass spectrometry indicates that the boron doping remains unaffected during the annealing treatment intended for vacancy removal. This study provides valuable insights into the intricate interplay between vacancies and ionized impurities with positrons in semiconductor crystals. The obtained results contribute to advance the control and understanding of material properties in heterostructures by emphasizing the significance of managing vacancy and dopant concentrations. This study explores the feasibility of precisely tuning the resistive switching behavior of Au/BiFeO 3 /Pt/Ti/SiO 2 /Si memristors through controlled modulation of laser energy density during pulsed laser deposition (PLD). By systematically reducing the laser energy density within the fabrication process, notable alterations in the properties of the BiFeO 3 (BFO) thin film are observed. As the laser energy density decreases, the grain size in the BFO film and the thickness of the film decrease. Furthermore, we obtain the minute structural variations in response to the diverse laser energy densities employed during the deposition process. Energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy analysis is employed to investigate the distribution of Ti 4 + ions within the BFO thin film. The reduction in the grain size and film thickness, along with the prominent nucleation of specifically oriented grains, and the diffusion of Ti 4 + ions, lead to the BFO memristor fabricated with a lower laser energy density having more grain boundaries and a shortened conduction path (grain boundary) in the thickness direction. Consequently, the enhanced movement of oxygen vacancies facilitates their preferential accumulation along the grain boundaries within the BFO layer, resulting in an augmented on/off ratio, rectification factor, and set current in the devices. Overall, our findings explain the significant influence of laser energy density in PLD on the microstructure and electrical properties of BFO thin films. Particularly, the lower energy densities are employed to improve electrical characteristics. This research not only enhances our fundamental understanding but also provides valuable insights into optimizing BFO memristors for reliable, robust, and practical applications. Background: The major breakthrough in cancer therapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has highlighted the important role of immune checkpoints in antitumoral immunity. However, most patients do not achieve durable responses, making biomarker research in this setting essential. CD27 is a well known costimulatory molecule, however the impact of its soluble form in ICI is poorly investigated. Therefore, we aimed at testing circulating concentrations of soluble CD27 (sCD27) and CD27 bound to extracellular vesicles (EVs) as potential biomarkers to predict response and overall survival (OS) in patients undergoing ICI. Methods: Serum and plasma levels of sCD27 were assessed by immunoassay in three patient cohorts (n = 187) with advanced solid malignancies including longitudinal samples (n = 126): a training (n = 84, 210 specimens, Aachen ICI) and validation cohort (n = 70, 70 specimens, Hamburg ICI), both treated with ICI therapy, and a second independent validation cohort (n = 33, 33 specimens, Hamburg non-ICI) undergoing systemic therapy without any ICI. In a subset (n = 36, 36 baseline and 108 longitudinal specimens), EV-bound CD27 from serum was measured, while EV characterization studies were conducted on a fourth cohort (n = 45). Results: In the Aachen and Hamburg ICI cohorts, patients with lower circulating sCD27 levels before and during ICI therapy had a significantly longer progression-free survival (PFS) and OS compared to patients with higher levels, a finding that was confirmed by multivariate analysis (MVA) (Aachen ICI: pPFS = 0.012, pOS = 0.001; Hamburg ICI: pPFS = 0.040, pOS = 0.004) and after randomly splitting both cohorts into training and validation. This phenomenon was not observed in the Hamburg non-ICI cohort, providing a rationale for the predictive biomarker role of sCD27 in immune checkpoint blockade. Remarkably, EV-bound CD27 baseline levels and dynamics during ICI therapy also emerged as potent predictive biomarkers, acting however antagonistically to soluble sCD27, i.e. higher levels were associated with PFS and OS benefit. Combining both molecules ("multi-CD27" score) enhanced the predictive ability (HRPFS: 17.21 with p < 0.001, HROS: 6.47 with p = 0.011). Conclusion: Soluble and EV-bound CD27 appear to have opposing immunomodulatory functions and may represent easily measurable, non-invasive prognostic markers to predict response and survival in patients undergoing ICI therapy. Motion analysis is of great interest to a variety of applications, such as virtual and augmented reality and medical diagnostics. Hand movement tracking systems, in particular, are used as a human–machine interface. In most cases, these systems are based on optical or acceleration/angular speed sensors. These technologies are already well researched and used in commercial systems. In special applications, it can be advantageous to use magnetic sensors to supplement an existing system or even replace the existing sensors. The core of a motion tracking system is a localization unit. The relatively complex localization algorithms present a problem in magnetic systems, leading to a relatively large computational complexity. In this paper, a new approach for pose estimation of a kinematic chain is presented. The new algorithm is based on spatially rotating magnetic dipole sources. A spatial feature is extracted from the sensor signal, the dipole direction in which the maximum magnitude value is detected at the sensor. This is introduced as the "maximum vector". A relationship between this feature, the location vector (pointing from the magnetic source to the sensor position) and the sensor orientation is derived and subsequently exploited. By modelling the hand as a kinematic chain, the posture of the chain can be described in two ways: the knowledge about the magnetic correlations and the structure of the kinematic chain. Both are bundled in an iterative algorithm with very low complexity. The algorithm was implemented in a real-time framework and evaluated in a simulation and first laboratory tests. In tests without movement, it could be shown that there was no significant deviation between the simulated and estimated poses. In tests with periodic movements, an error in the range of 1° was found. Of particular interest here is the required computing power. This was evaluated in terms of the required computing operations and the required computing time. Initial analyses have shown that a computing time of 3 μ s per joint is required on a personal computer. Atmospheric methane oxidizing bacteria (atmMOB) constitute the sole biological sink for atmospheric methane. Still, the physiological basis allowing atmMOB to grow on air is not well understood. Here we assess the ability and strategies of seven methanotrophic species to grow with air as sole energy, carbon, and nitrogen source. Four species, including three outside the canonical atmMOB group USCα, enduringly oxidized atmospheric methane, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen during 12 months of growth on air. These four species exhibited distinct substrate preferences implying the existence of multiple metabolic strategies to grow on air. The estimated energy yields of the atmMOB were substantially lower than previously assumed necessary for cellular maintenance in atmMOB and other aerobic microorganisms. Moreover, the atmMOB also covered their nitrogen requirements from air. During growth on air, the atmMOB decreased investments in biosynthesis while increasing investments in trace gas oxidation. Furthermore, we confirm that a high apparent specific affinity for methane is a key characteristic of atmMOB. Our work shows that atmMOB grow on the trace concentrations of methane, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen present in air and outlines the metabolic strategies that enable atmMOB to mitigate greenhouse gases. The only known peptide-gated ion channels--FaNaCs/WaNaCs and HyNaCs--belong to different clades of the DEG/ENaC family. FaNaCs are activated by the short neuropeptide FMRFamide, and HyNaCs by Hydra RFamides, which are not evolutionarily related to FMRFamide. The FMRFamide-binding site in FaNaCs was recently identified in a cleft atop the large extracellular domain. However, this cleft is not conserved in HyNaCs. Here, we combined molecular modeling and site-directed mutagenesis and identified a putative binding pocket for Hydra-RFamides in the extracellular domain of the heterotrimeric HyNaC2/3/5. This pocket localizes to only one of the three subunit interfaces, indicating that this trimeric ion channel binds a single peptide ligand. We engineered an unnatural amino acid at the putative binding pocket entrance, which allowed covalent tethering of Hydra RFamide to the channel, thereby trapping the channel in an open conformation. The identified pocket localizes to the same region as the acidic pocket of acid-sensing ion channels (ASICs), which binds peptide ligands. The pocket in HyNaCs is less acidic, and both electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions contribute to peptide binding. Collectively, our results reveal a conserved ligand-binding pocket in HyNaCs and ASICs and indicate independent evolution of peptide-binding cavities in the two subgroups of peptide-gated ion channels. Increased plasma levels of glucagon (hyperglucagonemia) promote diabetes development but are also observed in patients with metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). This may reflect hepatic glucagon resistance toward amino acid catabolism. A clinical test for measuring glucagon resistance has not been validated. We evaluated our glucagon sensitivity (GLUSENTIC) test, which consists of 2 study days: a glucagon injection and measurements of plasma amino acids and an infusion of mixed amino acids and subsequent calculation of the GLUSENTIC index (primary outcome measure) from measurements of glucagon and amino acids. To distinguish glucagon-dependent from insulin-dependent actions on amino acid metabolism, we also studied patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D). The δ-decline in total amino acids was 49% lower in MASLD following exogenous glucagon (P = 0.01), and the calculated GLUSENTIC index was 34% lower in MASLD (P < 0.0001) but not T1D (P > 0.99). In contrast, glucagon-induced glucose increments were similar in control participants and participants with MASLD (P = 0.41). The GLUSENTIC test and index may be used to measure glucagon resistance in individuals with obesity and MASLD. Article Highlights: Patients with metabolic dysfunction–associated steatotic liver disease have an increased risk of developing diabetes due to altered insulin and glucagon signaling. While standardized methods exist to assess and identify insulin resistance, this is not the case for glucagon resistance. We aimed to determine the clinical applicability of an experimental test for assessing glucagon sensitivity (GLUSENTIC) and found that glucagon resistance may be captured by the GLUSENTIC test and index. The purpose of this investigation was (1) to test the effect of movement restriction of the free leg during unilateral vertical jump on performance and power output comparing 2 different jump techniques: flexed (Classic technique) and straight (FC Luzern technique) free leg, and (2) to test the correlation between performance and power output obtained using these 2 techniques. Twenty elite soccer players performed squat (SJ) and countermovement (CMJ) jumps on each leg. The jump height and peak power output were compared between the 2 techniques for both legs. The jump height and peak power were significantly higher for the classic test for SJ and CMJ (P <.001) with no side effects or interactions. The angular range of motion of the free leg was higher for the Classic test than for the FC Lucerne test (P <.001), with no difference in the angular range of motion of the trunk. Objectives: To compare marginal gap width and depth with different cementation systems, excess removal, and after polishing. Method and materials: In total, 80 composite crowns were milled, divided into ten groups, and cemented on identical artificial teeth. Eight crowns per group were fixed with (i) zinc phosphate cement (ZnOPh), (ii) glass-ionomer cement (GIC), (iii) resin-reinforced glass-ionomer cement (GIC mod), (iv) dual-curing adhesive composite (Comp dual), or (v) dual-curing self-adhesive composite (Comp SE dual). Excess removal was performed with a scaler after brief light-cure (tack-cure), final light-cure, during rubber or gel phase or by wiping with foam pellet. Curing was completed in chemical, dark cure, or light-curing modus. The specimens were polished and stored in water (37°C). The margins were digitized using a 3D laser-scanning microscope (VK-X100 series, Keyence). The width and the depth of the marginal gap were measured at 10 points between the crown margin and the preparation margin. Results: The width after excess removal varied between 65.1 ± 15.7 µm (Comp dual, wipe, with polishing) and 208.6 ± 266.7 µm (Comp SE dual, dark cure, without polishing). The depth varied between 29.8 ± 22.2 µm (Comp dual, wipe, with polishing) and 89.5 ± 45.2 µm (Comp SE dual, dark cure, without polishing). The impact on gap width and depth was detected for fixation material, excess removal, and polishing. Conclusion: The gap depth and width depend on the luting material and the mode of access removal. Background: This health-economic evaluation assessed the cost-effectiveness of an exercise referral scheme (ERS) versus doing nothing in the Flemish region (Belgium), with a particular focus on the impact of several scenarios. Methods: A 14-state Markov model was applied to compare the expected costs and quality-adjusted life years (QALYs) of 2 alternatives: the Flemish ERS (2019 data, mean age 52 y, 69.1% women) and doing nothing. A health care payer perspective was adopted and a lifetime time horizon was applied. A set of 18 scenario analyses is presented. In addition, univariate and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were performed. Results: Under the assumptions selected for the base-case analysis, the Flemish ERS is moderately cost-effective compared with doing nothing, with an incremental cost-utility ratio of €28,609/QALY. Based on the scenario analyses, the results largely depend on the assumptions regarding the continuation of the intervention effect and the frequency with which the intervention is repeated. The greatest health gains can be made when a sustainable behavioral change is achieved among participants. The probabilistic sensitivity analysis confirmed that the cost-effectiveness results were not robust. Conclusions: If it is possible to induce a sustainable behavioral change with an intervention delivered at 2- or 5-year intervals, then the Flemish ERS is potentially cost-effective compared with doing nothing (given a €40,000/QALY threshold). These results suggest the importance of repeated implementation of the program together with careful monitoring of the adherence and the sustainability of the observed effects in a real-world setting. Background: Little investigation of accelerometry assessed movement behaviors and physical inactivity was carried out in middle-aged and older adults in low-middle-income countries. Objective: Describe accelerometry-measured movement behaviors and prevalence of physical inactivity in middle-aged and older adults. Methods: We collected raw accelerometry data during the third visit (2017–2019) of ELSA-Brasil, a large-scale multicenter Brazilian cohort. Participants wore an ActiGraph wGT3X-BT on the waist for 24 hours for 7 days and documented sleep in a diary. Results: Nine thousand two hundred and seventy-nine participants had valid data (73.4% of the eligible cohort). Overall activity was higher for men (11.82mg; 95% confidence interval [CI], 11.7 to 11.93) than women (10.69mg; 95% CI, 10.6 to 10.77) and lower in older groups—women (−0.12mg/y; 95% CI, −0.13 to −0.11), men (−0.16mg/y; 95% CI, −0.17 to −0.14). Participants were more active from noon to midnight. Distribution of movement behaviors varied with sex and age, and sleep duration was longer in older individuals. Overall, 14.4% (95% CI, 13.7 to 15.1) were inactive, with inactivity being more frequent in women (16.4%; 95% CI, 15.4 to 17.4) than men (12.2%; 95% CI, 11 to 13). Higher rates were observed in the oldest. Retirement was associated with a higher prevalence of physical inactivity in both sexes. Conclusion: Women were less active than men. Older individuals showed a high prevalence of physical inactivity, probably related to transition into retirement. These findings strengthen evidence for public policies promoting physical activity by emphasizing the need to target women, older individuals, and those transitioning to retirement to improve and/or maintain physical activity levels throughout the course of their lives. We present computational results on electronic, magnetic, and structural properties of CoVMnSb, a quaternary Heusler alloy. Our calculations indicate that this material may crystallize in two energetically close structural phases: inverted and regular cubic. The inverted cubic phase is the ground state, with ferrimagnetic alignment, and around 80% spin polarization. Despite having a relatively large bandgap in the minority-spin channel close to the Fermi level, this phase does not undergo a half-metallic transition under pressure. This is explained by the "pinning" of the Fermi level at the minority-spin states at the Γ point. At the same time, the regular cubic phase is half-metallic and retains its perfect spin polarization under a wide range of mechanical strain. Transition to a regular cubic phase may be attained by applying uniform pressure (but not biaxial strain). In practice, this pressure may be realized by an atomic substitution of non-magnetic atoms (Sb) with another non-magnetic atom (Si) of a smaller radius. Our calculations indicate that 25% substitution of Sb with Si results in a half-metallic regular cubic phase being the ground state. In addition, CoVMnSb0.5Si0.5 retains its half-metallic properties under a considerable range of mechanical pressure, as well as exhibits thermodynamic stability, thus making this alloy attractive for potential spintronic applications. The nitrogen-vacancy (NV) centers (NCVSi)− in 4H silicon carbide (SiC) constitute an ensemble of spin S = 1 solid state qubits interacting with the surrounding 14N and 29Si nuclei. As quantum applications based on a polarization transfer from the electron spin to the nuclei require the knowledge of the electron–nuclear interaction parameters, we have used high-frequency (94 GHz) electron–nuclear double resonance spectroscopy combined with first-principles density functional theory to investigate the hyperfine and nuclear quadrupole interactions of the basal and axial NV centers. We observed that the four inequivalent NV configurations (hk, kh, hh, and kk) exhibit different electron–nuclear interaction parameters, suggesting that each NV center may act as a separate optically addressable qubit. Finally, we rationalized the observed differences in terms of distinctions in the local atomic structures of the NV configurations. Cryptochrome 4a (Cry4a) has been proposed as the sensor at the heart of the magnetic compass in migratory songbirds. Blue-light excitation of this protein produces magnetically sensitive flavin–tryptophan radical pairs whose properties suggest that Cry4a could indeed be suitable as a magnetoreceptor. Here, we use cavity ring-down spectroscopy to measure magnetic field effects on the kinetics of these radical pairs in modified Cry4a proteins from the migratory European robin and from nonmigratory pigeon and chicken. B1/2, a parameter that characterizes the magnetic field-dependence of the reactions, was found to be larger than expected on the basis of hyperfine interactions and to increase with the delay between pump and probe laser pulses. Semiclassical spin dynamics simulations show that this behavior is consistent with a singlet–triplet dephasing (STD) relaxation mechanism. Analysis of the experimental data gives dephasing rate constants, rSTD, in the range 3–6 × 107 s−1. A simple "toy" model due to Maeda, Miura, and Arai [Mol. Phys. 104, 1779–1788 (2006)] is used to shed light on the origin of the time-dependence and the nature of the STD mechanism. Under the conditions of the experiments, STD results in an exponential approach to spin equilibrium at a rate considerably slower than rSTD. We attribute the loss of singlet–triplet coherence to electron hopping between the second and third tryptophans of the electron transfer chain and comment on whether this process could explain differences in the magnetic sensitivity of robin, chicken, and pigeon Cry4a's. This paper analyses extant literature on how Industry 4.0 impacts Social Capital in Buyer-Supplier Relationships. We conduct a systematic literature review and identify 36 academic articles that are analysed in the research process. The study uncovers strategic changes Industry 4.0 implies for Social Capital in Buyer-Supplier Relationships. These include transformations in cognitive, structural and relational capital in terms of a shared vision, social interaction and trust. Therein, Social Capital in Buyer-Supplier Relationships is needed and further invested in aspects like common decision-making, information sharing and cross-company integration in Industry 4.0 contexts. We propose that Industry 4.0 implementation does require and foster Social Capital in Buyer-Supplier Relationships and that two diametrically opposed elementary forms of Buyer-Supplier Relationships co-exist in an Industry 4.0 context. The systematic literature review is the first to analyse the extant body of literature on Buyer-Supplier Relationships in Industry 4.0 to synthesise detailed transformations against the backdrop of Social Capital. Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) constitutes the most common genetic cardiac disorder. However, current pharmacotherapeutics are mainly symptomatic and only partially address underlying molecular mechanisms. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a recently discovered class of non-coding RNAs and emerged as specific and powerful regulators of cellular functions. By performing global circRNA-specific next generation sequencing in cardiac tissue of patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy compared to healthy donors, we identified circZFPM2 (hsa_circ_0003380). CircZFPM2, which derives from the ZFPM2 gene locus, is a highly conserved regulatory circRNA that is strongly induced in HCM tissue. In vitro loss-of-function experiments were performed in neonatal rat cardiomyocytes, human induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (hiPSC-CMs), and HCM-patient-derived hiPSC-CMs. A knockdown of circZFPM2 was found to induce cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and compromise mitochondrial respiration, leading to an increased production of reactive oxygen species and apoptosis. In contrast, delivery of recombinant circZFPM2, packaged in lipid-nanoparticles or using AAV-based overexpression, rescued cardiomyocyte hypertrophic gene expression and promoted cell survival. Additionally, HCM-derived cardiac organoids exhibited improved contractility upon CM-specific overexpression of circZFPM2. Multi-Omics analysis further promoted our hypothesis, showing beneficial effects of circZFPM2 on cardiac contractility and mitochondrial function. Participants: Long-term residents aged 65 years and older receiving CYP2D6-metabolized opioids with a disease indication for antidepressant use. Intervention: Initiating CYP2D6-inhibiting versus CYP2D6-neutral antidepressants that overlapped with use of CYP2D6-metabolized opioids for 1 day or more. Measurements: Clinical outcomes were worsening pain, physical function, and depression from baseline to quarterly MDS assessments and were analyzed using modified Poisson regression models. The ORAE outcomes included counts of pain-related hospitalizations and emergency department (ED) visits, opioid use disorder (OUD), and opioid overdose and were analyzed with negative binomial or Poisson regression models. All models were adjusted for baseline covariates via inverse probability of treatment weighting. Results: Among 29 435 identified residents, use of CYP2D6-metabolized opioids concomitantly with CYP2D6-inhibiting (vs. CYP2D6-neutral) antidepressants was associated with a higher adjusted rate ratio of worsening pain (1.13 [95% CI, 1.09 to 1.17]) and higher adjusted incidence rate ratios of pain-related hospitalization (1.37 [CI, 1.19 to 1.59]), pain-related ED visit (1.49 [CI, 1.24 to 1.80]), and OUD (1.93 [CI, 1.37 to 2.73]), with no difference in physical function, depression, and opioid overdose. The Continuous Visual Attention Test (CVAT) is a test that detects visuomotor reaction time (RT, alertness), variability of reaction time (VRT, sustained attention), omission errors (OE, focused attention), and commission errors (CE, response inhibition). The standard test takes 15 min, while the ultrafast version only 90 s. Besides overall task length, the two versions differ by target probability (20% and 80% in the 15-min vs. only 80% in the 90-s test) and stimulus-onset asynchrony (SOA) (1, 2, and 4 s in the 15-min vs. only 1 s in the 90-s test. We aimed to analyze the effect of target probability, SOA, and time length on the CVAT variables across the 15-min task and to verify correlations and agreements between the 15-min and the 90-s CVATs. 205 healthy participants performed the two CVATs on the same day. Considering the 15-min task, RT and CE were strongly affected by target probability. Conversely, VRT was not affected. When the 15-min task was compared to the 90-s task, we found no significant difference in the VRT variable. Additionally, a significant agreement between the two tasks was found for the VRT variable. Beneficial effects of sodium glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) in cardiovascular diseases have been extensively reported leading to the inclusion of these drugs in the treatment guidelines for heart failure. However, molecular actions especially on non-myocyte cells remain uncertain. We observed dose-dependent inhibitory effects of two SGLT2is, dapagliflozin (DAPA) and empagliflozin (EMPA), on inflammatory signaling in human umbilical vein endothelial cells. Proteomic analyses and subsequent enrichment analyses discovered profound effects of these SGLT2is on proteins involved in mitochondrial respiration and actin cytoskeleton. Validation in functional oxygen consumption measurements as well as tube formation and migration assays revealed strong impacts of DAPA. Considering that most influenced parameters played central roles in endothelial to mesenchymal transition (EndMT), we performed in vitro EndMT assays and identified substantial reduction of mesenchymal and fibrosis marker expression as well as changes in cellular morphology upon treatment with SGLT2is. In line, human cardiac fibroblasts exposed to DAPA showed less proliferation, reduced ATP production, and decelerated migration capacity while less extensive impacts were observed upon EMPA. Mechanistically, sodium proton exchanger 1 (NHE1) as well as sodium-myoinositol cotransporter (SMIT) and sodium-multivitamin cotransporter (SMVT) could be identified as relevant targets of SGLT2is in non-myocyte cardiovascular cells as validated by individual siRNA-knockdown experiments. In summary, we found comprehensive beneficial effects of SGLT2is on human endothelial cells and cardiac fibroblasts. The results of this study therefore support a distinct effect of selected SGLT2i on non-myocyte cardiovascular cells and grant further insights into potential molecular mode of action of these drugs. This retrospective cross-sectional study investigates determinants on follicular development, oocyte retrieval and pregnancy outcome. It assessed the clinical practicability of monitoring parameters in relation to predict a successful treatment. Analysis of serum-estradiol (E2), sonographic follicle count, number of oocytes and optimizable parameters have therefore been carried out based on patient files from the IVF outpatient clinic at the Department of Gynecology, Obstetrics and Reproductive Medicine, Homburg/Saar, Germany. Equidirectional connection occurred between serum-E2, sonographic follicle count and number of oocytes (p < 0.001). There was no significant difference between sonographic and punctured follicle count (p = 0.428), but between sonographic/punctured follicle count and number of oocytes obtained (p < 0.01). Increasing endometrial thickness was associated with increasing serum-E2 (p = 0.003) and number of oocytes (p < 0.001), but not with the follicle count (p > 0.05). Additionally, age was inversely associated with sonographic follicle count and number of oocytes (p < 0.001) but not with E2 (p > 0.05). BMI, nicotine and stimulation protocol had no association with the observed parameters (p > 0.05). Mean differences in follicle numbers can be used for predicting expectable numbers of oocytes. Due to comparable numbers of follicles visualized on the day of ovulation induction and the number of follicles punctured, more emphasis should be placed in optimizing oocyte retrieval procedures. FAIRification of personal health data is of utmost importance to improve health research and political as well as medical decision-making, which ultimately contributes to a better health of the general population. Despite the many advances in information technology, several obstacles such as interoperability problems remain and relevant research on the health topic of interest is likely to be missed out due to time-consuming search and access processes. A recent example is the COVID-19 pandemic, where a better understanding of the virus' transmission dynamics as well as preventive and therapeutic options would have improved public health and medical decision-making. Consequently, the NFDI4Health Task Force COVID-19 was established to foster the FAIRification of German COVID-19 studies. This paper describes the various steps that have been taken to create low barrier workflows for scientists in finding and accessing German COVID-19 research. It provides an overview on the building blocks for FAIR health research within the Task Force COVID-19 and how this initial work was subsequently expanded by the German consortium National Research Data Infrastructure for Personal Health Data (NFDI4Health) to cover a wider range of studies and research areas in epidemiological, public health and clinical research. Within this interdisciplinary study, we demonstrate the applicability of a 6D printer for soft tissue engineering models. For this purpose, a special plant was constructed, combining the technical requirements for 6D printing with the biological necessities, especially for soft tissue. Therefore, a commercial 6D robot arm was combined with a sterilizable housing (including a high‐efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter and ultraviolet radiation (UVC) lamps) and a custom‐made printhead and printbed. Both components allow cooling and heating, which is desirable for working with viable cells. In addition, a spraying unit was installed that allows the distribution of fine droplets of a liquid. Advanced geometries on uneven or angled surfaces can be created with the use of all six axes. Based on often used bioinks in the field of soft tissue engineering (gellan gum, collagen, and gelatin methacryloyl) with very different material properties, we could demonstrate the flexibility of the printing system. Furthermore, cell‐containing constructs using primary human adipose‐derived stem cells (ASCs) could be produced in an automated manner. Breast cancer imposes a significant burden globally. While the survival rate is steadily improving, much remains to be elucidated. This observational, single time point, multiomic study utilizing genomics, proteomics, targeted and untargeted metabolomics, and metagenomics in a breast cancer survivor (BCS) and age-matched healthy control cohort (N = 100) provides deep molecular phenotyping of breast cancer survivors. In this study, the BCS cohort had significantly higher polygenic risk scores for breast cancer than the control group. Carnitine and hexanoyl carnitine were significantly different. Several bile acid and fatty acid metabolites were significantly dissimilar, most notably the Omega-3 Index (O3I) (significantly lower in BCS). Proteomic and metagenomic analyses identified group and pathway differences, which warrant further investigation. The database built from this study contributes a wealth of data on breast cancer survivorship where there has been a paucity, affording the ability to identify patterns and novel insights that can drive new hypotheses and inform future research. Expansion of this database in the treatment-naïve, newly diagnosed, controlling for treatment confounders, and through the disease progression, can be leveraged to profile and contextualize breast cancer and breast cancer survivorship, potentially leading to the development of new strategies to combat this disease and improve the quality of life for its victims. Introduction: Caloric restriction (CR) is a nutritional intervention that increases life expectancy while lowering the risk for cardio-metabolic disease. Its effects on bone health, however, remain controversial. For instance, CR has been linked to increased accumulation of bone marrow adipose tissue (BMAT) in long bones, a process thought to elicit detrimental effects on bone. Qualitative differences have been reported in BMAT in relation to its specific anatomical localization, subdividing it into physiological and potentially pathological BMAT. We here examine the local impact of CR on bone composition, microstructure and its endocrine profile in the context of aging. Methods: Young and aged male C57Bl6J mice were subjected to CR for 8 weeks and were compared to age-matched littermates with free food access. We assessed bone microstructure and BMAT by micro-CT, bone fatty acid and transcriptomic profiles, and bone healing. Results: CR increased tibial BMAT accumulation and adipogenic gene expression. CR also resulted in elevated fatty acid desaturation in the proximal and mid-shaft regions of the tibia, thus more closely resembling the biochemical lipid profile of the distally located, physiological BMAT. In aged mice, CR attenuated trabecular bone loss, suggesting that CR may revert some aspects of age-related bone dysfunction. Cortical bone, however, was decreased in young mice on CR and remained reduced in aged mice, irrespective of dietary intervention. No negative effects of CR on bone regeneration were evident in either young or aged mice. Discussion: Our findings indicate that the timing of CR is critical and may exert detrimental effects on bone biology if administered during a phase of active skeletal growth. Conversely, CR exerts positive effects on trabecular bone structure in the context of aging, which occurs despite substantial accumulation of BMAT. The SpaceX Inspiration4 mission provided a unique opportunity to study the impact of spaceflight on the human body. Biospecimen samples were collected from four crew members longitudinally before (Launch: L-92, L-44, L-3 days), during (Flight Day: FD1, FD2, FD3), and after (Return: R + 1, R + 45, R + 82, R + 194 days) spaceflight, spanning a total of 289 days across 2021-2022. The collection process included venous whole blood, capillary dried blood spot cards, saliva, urine, stool, body swabs, capsule swabs, SpaceX Dragon capsule HEPA filter, and skin biopsies. Venous whole blood was further processed to obtain aliquots of serum, plasma, extracellular vesicles and particles, and peripheral blood mononuclear cells. In total, 2,911 sample aliquots were shipped to our central lab at Weill Cornell Medicine for downstream assays and biobanking. This paper provides an overview of the extensive biospecimen collection and highlights their processing procedures and long-term biobanking techniques, facilitating future molecular tests and evaluations.As such, this study details a robust framework for obtaining and preserving high-quality human, microbial, and environmental samples for aerospace medicine in the Space Omics and Medical Atlas (SOMA) initiative, which can aid future human spaceflight and space biology experiments. In this work, we report on the concurrent emergence of the directional Kondo behavior and incommensurate magnetic ordering in a layered material. We employ temperature- and magnetic field-dependent resistivity measurements, susceptibility measurements, and high resolution wavelength X-ray diffraction spectroscopy to study the electronic properties of AgCrSe2. Impurity Kondo behavior with a characteristic temperature of TK = 32 K is identified through quantitative analysis of the in-plane resistivity, substantiated by magneto-transport measurements. The excellent agreement between our experimental data and the Schlottmann's scaling theory allows us to determine the impurity spin as S = 3/2. Furthermore, we discuss the origin of the Kondo behavior and its relation to the material's antiferromagnetic transition. Our study uncovers a rare phenomenon—the equivalence of the Néel temperature and the Kondo temperature—paving the way for further investigations into the intricate interplay between impurity physics and magnetic phenomena in quantum materials, with potential applications in advanced electronic and magnetic devices. Background: Brachycephalic dogs are overrepresented with ventricular enlargement. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow dynamics are not completely understood. MRI techniques have been used for the visualization of CSF dynamics including phase-contrast imaging. Objectives: This study aimed to determine a causality between CSF flow and ventriculomegaly or hydrocephalus and to compare CSF flow dynamics among dogs with ventriculomegaly, internal hydrocephalus, and physiologic ventricles. Animals: A total of 51 client-owned dogs were included in the study. Methods: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based FLASH sequences and phase-contrast images of the brain were obtained, and the ROI was placed at the level of the mesencephalic aqueduct. ECG monitoring was performed parallel to MRI acquisition. Evaluation of flow diagrams and processing of phase-contrast images were performed using commercially available software (Argus VA80A, Siemens AG Healthcare Sector, Erlangen, Germany). Dogs were divided into three groups: Group 1 consisted of brachycephalic dogs with ventriculomegaly (group 1A) or internal hydrocephalus (group 1B), group 2 consisted of brachycephalic dogs with normal ventricles, and group 3 consisted of meso- to dolichocephalic dogs with normal ventricles. Results: Group 1 had a higher median Vrost (4.32 cm/s; CI: 2.94–6.33 cm/s) and Vcaud (−6.1 cm/s, CI: 3.99–9.33 cm/s) than group 2 (Vrost: 1.99 cm/s; CI 1.43–2.78 cm/s; Vcaud: 2.91 cm/s, CI: 2.01–4.21 cm/s; p = 0.008; p = 0.03) and group 3 (Vrost:1.85 cm/s, CI: 1.31–2.60 cm/s; Vcaud − 2.46 cm/s, CI 1.68–3.58 cm/s; p = 0.01; p = 0.02). The median Volcaud of group 1 (−0.23 mL/min, CI: 0.13–0.42 mL/min) was higher than that of group 2 (−0.09 mL/min, CI: 0.05 mL/min and 0.15 mL/min) (p = 0.03). Groups 1A and 1B did not differ in Vcaud, Vrost, Volcaud, and Volrost. Group 1A and 1B showed a higher median Vrost (4.01 cm/s, CI: 2.30–7.05 cm/s; 5.94 cm/s, CI: 2.16–7.88 cm/s) than group 2 (1.85 cm/s, CI: 1.24–2.80 cm/s.) (p = 0.03; p = 0.004). Conclusion and clinical importance: Increased CSF flow velocities in rostral and caudal directions are present in dogs with ventriculomegaly and internal hydrocephalus compared to normal controls. Various regional and international standards have been developed to measure the environmental impacts of transportation fuels and minimize greenwashing and misinformation regarding their sustainability. These frameworks offer standardized methods and calculation guidelines for fuel producers to be able to verify compliance with predefined sustainability criteria and to achieve greenhouse gas emission reduction targets. However, significant inconsistencies exist among these standards in terms of methods, calculation rules, and default values assigned to specific fuels. This study reviews and analyses five fuel standards, namely the European Renewable Energy Directive, the United Nation's Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation, the California Low Carbon Fuel Standard, the United States Renewable Fuel Standard, and the UK Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation. A qualitative analysis of the different schemes' methods identified several discrepancies. These were found to be primarily related to the modelling approach used, the burdens and credits arising from different feedstock types and co-products, and the modelling of electricity and land use changes. An example of this is that different standards provide credits for certain waste types, such as animal manure in the RED and RTFO, or municipal solid waste in CORSIA. In addition to the qualitative analysis, the carbon intensity was calculated – according to the rules set out by these frameworks – for case studies of eight fuel types, including biofuels and electrolysis-based fuels. These calculations further highlighted how the use of different fuel standards can lead to conflicting assessments of a fuel's environmental impact. Overall, our findings demonstrate substantial variations in the methods and calculation rules prescribed by the five standards, often resulting in markedly different carbon intensity scores for the same fuel. Based on this analysis, we propose specific changes to the calculation rules to enhance harmonization and improve the accuracy in reflecting the environmental consequences of fuel production and use. Background: Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are essential components of the tumor microenvironment and play a critical role in cancer progression. Numerous studies have identified significant molecular differences between CAFs and normal tissue-associated fibroblasts (NAFs). In this study, we isolated CAFs and NAFs from liver tumors and conducted a comprehensive analysis of their DNA methylation profiles, integrating our finding with data from studies on other cancer types. Results: Our analysis revealed that several CAF samples exhibited aberrant DNA methylation patterns, which corresponded with altered gene expression levels. Notably, DNA methylation at liver CAF-specific CpG sites was linked to survival outcomes in liver cancer datasets. An integrative analysis using publicly available datasets from various cancer types, including lung, prostate, esophageal, and gastric cancers, uncovered common epigenetic abnormalities across these cancers. Among the consistently altered CpGs were cg09809672 (EDARADD), cg07134930 (HDAC4), and cg05935904 (intergenic). These methylation changes were associated with prognosis across multiple cancer types. Conclusion: The activation of CAFs by the tumor microenvironment seems to be associated with distinct epigenetic modifications. Remarkably, similar genomic regions tend to undergo hypomethylation in CAFs across different studies and cancer types. Our findings suggest that CAF-associated DNA methylation changes hold potential as prognostic biomarkers. Background: With access to and uptake of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), the United States can prevent new HIV infections. To end the HIV epidemic, health insurance plans must facilitate access to comprehensive preventive care benefits. Since plan benefit designs vary considerably by plan, it is difficult to systematically determine plans that facilitate and restrict preventive services for PrEP. Methods: We applied an unsupervised machine learning method to cluster 17,061 Qualified Health Plans offered to individuals. We examined the clusters to draw conclusions about the types of benefits insurance companies tend to group together in plans. Then we analyzed the geographic distribution of those clusters across the United States to assess geographic inequities in access to HIV preventive care. Results: Our method uncovered three cohesive clusters of plans. Plans in Cluster 1: the least restrictive cluster, facilitate access to preventive care using copays over coinsurance on almost all benefits; Cluster 2: the moderately restrictive cluster, plans cover HIV prevention benefits with copays but restrict access to general health benefits with coinsurance; and Cluster 3: the most restrictive cluster, plans cover almost all benefits using coinsurance. Overall, increased prior authorization requirements tend to accompany reductions in out-of-pocket costs. Examining the geographic plan distribution, states with at least one rating area where at least 75% of plans offered are in the most restrictive cluster included: Georgia, Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia, and Wyoming. Conclusions: Insurance plan design is complex. To address the ambitious call to end the HIV epidemic in this country, plans should also take into account both public health and health equity factors to create plan designs that ensure access to critical preventive services for people who need them most. Addressing the growing disparities in PrEP access along racial and ethnic lines should be a national priority, and federal and state insurance regulators as well as insurance plans themselves should be part of the conversation about how to ensure people who would benefit from PrEP can access it. Better state/federal regulation of plan design to ensure access is consistent, equitable, and based on clinical recommendations will reduce the variability across plan designs. Objective: The concept of "Healing Architecture" addresses the relevance of design and architectural issues on the outcome of medical and therapeutic treatment in hospitals. The questionnaire ARCHI was developed to record data on the opinion of different groups of users on the architectural design of their therapeutic environment in departments of child and adolescent psychiatry. Method: A Questionnaire-based cross-sectional study was conducted in two phases between 2020 and 2022 using ARCHI to gather the perspectives of senior physicians and architects on the significance of architectural design in German child and adolescent psychiatric facilities. Results: In the survey of the senior physicians, 49 heads of child and adolescents psychiatric departments initiated the survey, and 73.5% (n = 36) of them completed the questionnaire in its entirety. During the survey for the architect-specific, 145 individuals commenced the survey, and 60.7% of them completed the questionnaire (n = 88). Significant differences between architects and senior physicians became visible for four of the 93 items, namely "environment of the hospital", "structure of building", "labelling of floors" and "visible cleanliness". Conclusions: Although senior physicians and architects were characterized by the same opinions on the relevance of architectural design on therapeutic issues for the major part of issues, differences could be obtained for several aspects which are important for the architectural planning of new departments and hospitals. It remains open why both professional groups had different point of views on these four aspects of hospital design which should be clarified to improve the process of hospital development in the future. Vision and magnetoreception in navigating songbirds are strongly connected as recent findings link a light dependent radical-pair mechanism in cryptochrome proteins to signalling pathways in cone photoreceptor cells. A previous yeast-two-hybrid screening approach identified six putative candidate proteins showing binding to cryptochrome type 4a. So far, only the interaction of the cone specific G-protein transducin α-subunit was investigated in more detail. In the present study, we compare the binding features of the G-protein α-subunit with those of another candidate from the yeast-two-hybrid screen, cellular retinol binding protein. Purified recombinant European robin retinol binding protein bound retinol with high affinity, displaying an EC50 of less than 5 nM, thereby demonstrating its functional state. We applied surface plasmon resonance and a Förster resonance transfer analysis to test for interactions between retinol binding protein and cryptochrome 4a. In the absence of retinol, we observed no robust binding events, which contrasts the strong interaction we observed between cryptochrome 4a and the G-protein α-subunit. We conclude that retinol binding protein is unlikely to be involved in the primary magnetosensory signalling cascade. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present investigation aimed to assess the safety of photobiomodulation (PBM) on the oral carcinogenesis process induced by 4NQO, focusing on cell proliferation and apoptosis. Sixty-six Wistar rats received systemic 4NQO for 12 (n = 33) and 20 weeks (n = 33), divided into Control group, PBM 0.3 J, and PBM 1 J. Applications for PBM occurred three times a week. At weeks 12 and 20, the animals were euthanized. The immunoreactivity for anti-ROS1 and anti-p53 antibodies was also assessed. Statistical analysis was assessed by multiple t-tests, Kruskal-Wallis, and Spearman's correlation. At 12 weeks, PBM 1 J group had nodular lesions, distinct from control and PBM 0.3 J groups (p = 0.005). At 20 weeks, nodular lesions were common in control and PBM 0.3 J groups. Histopathological characteristics did not significantly differ between groups at 12 (p = 0.30) and 20 weeks (p = 0.58). Epithelial dysplasia (n = 21) was common at 12 weeks. After 20 weeks, most of the cases revealed squamous cell carcinoma (n = 24). No differences were observed in the immunostaining of p53 and ROS1 among the control and experimental groups and there was no correlation of these proteins with clinicopathological data. During the carcinogenesis process, the PBM did not modify the development of oral lesions and the expression of proliferative and apoptosis proteins. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
