A series of new hexahydropyrido2,3dpyrimidine derivatives 3were synthesized by the cyclocondensation reaction of arylmethylidenepyruvic acids =3E4aryl2oxobut3enoic acids 1and 6aminouracils =6aminopyrimidine2,41H,3Hdiones 2in H2O under reflux conditions Scheme1, Table. This novel protocol has the advantages of facility, of easy workup, of high yields, and of an environmentally benign procedure. Summary. Three component condensation of alkylacetoacetates, primary amines, and alkyl cyanoacetates catalyzed by solid supports under microwave irradiation gave N-alkyl 3-cyano-6-hydroxy-2(1H)-pyridinones with high yields. Upon carrying out the reaction under the same condition on acidic alumina, zeolite HY, silica gel, and montmorillonite K-10, the best yields were achieved by silica gel. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
