This article aims to expose the revitalization of Siriah Gadang cultural values in Galombang dance performed in Guguak village, Pariangan, Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra. Siriah Gadang is almost extinct because it is very rarely used. It is a cultural object with the same function as Cara-no, which is currently used for Galombang dance performances. To achieve this goal, qualitative research was used through observation, documentation, in-depth interviews, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) techniques. The data obtained were analyzed using the Miles and Haberman model. It was found that the cultural values in Siriah Gadang are customary values, ethical values, social values, religious values, and leadership values reflected in the philosophy of the Minang-kabau people "adaik basandi syarak, syarak basandi Kitabullah." A roundtable session on the topic of "Negotiating the Borders of the Academia, Industry and Community in Terms of Musical Arts" that was held in the School of The Arts, Universiti Sains Malaysia on the 24th of November 2015 was supplemented by a performance event that was meant to illustrate and reflect on the same theme. Three sets of performances were The Sound of Silence a devised play, Wayang Chulia shadow puppet performance, and Samuel J. Dass' and Michael Veerapen's solo and duo performance. By way of alluding to issues and arguments raised during the roundtable discussions, this critical review examines the varying ways that these performances demonstrate the outcome of a traversing between the academia, industry and community. It can be seen that it is possible for the practitioners of the performing arts to simultaneously represent their respective disciplines and negotiate adapting approaches and raising awareness of one another's discourses while compliant with the normalcy of the difference between the sectors of the academia, industry and community. Poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) microchannels are commonly used microfluidic structures that have a wide variety of biological testing applications, including the simulation of blood vessels to study the mechanics of vascular disease. In these studies in particular, the deformation of the channel due to the pressure inside is a critical parameter. We describe a method for using fluorescence microscopy to quantify the deformation of such channels under pressure driven flow. Additionally, the relationship between wall thickness and channel deformation is investigated. PDMS microchannels of varying top wall thickness were created using a soft lithography process. A solution of fluorescent dye is pumped through the channels at constant volume flow rates and illuminated. Pressure and fluorescence intensity are measured at five positions along the length of the channel. Fluorescence measurements are then used to determine deformation, using the linear relationship of dye layer thickness and intensity. A linear relationship between pressure and microchannel deformation is measured. Pressure drops and deformations closely correspond to values predicted by the model in most cases. Additionally, measured pressure drops are found to be up to 35% less than the pressure drop in a rigid-walled channel, and channel wall thickness is found to have an increasing effect as the channel wall thickness decreases.
